Keine deutsche Sprachunterstützung, obwohl das Original dies bereits integriert hat UND nach dem Start zerschießt es die Auflösung, also kein Upscaling oder gar Windowed-Mode in sauberer Weise möglich... Hut ab, so einen schönen Klassiker so zu verrunzen!

very enjoyable game, if you like building games. I also like that you can make it much more challenging by increasing the difficulty and no. of players. the no. of players really helps make it more challenging. Seems to play differently each time.
It's an old friend changed hardly at all from all the hours I spent playing off of a disc.

Sid Meier galt vor 20 Jahren als "State of the Art". Viele dieser alten Spiele machen trotz mäßiger Graphik noch immer sehr viel Spaß. Die Taktik in den ersten 1-2 Jahren des Szenarios ist hier entscheidend für den weiteren Verlauf im Spiel. Die Variationen der Aufgaben sorgen für Abwechslung. Von leicht bis echt schwierig, alles dabei und einstellbar. Der Sprecher und die alten eingespielten Videos sind großartig. Die Musikunterlegung passend. Historisch interessant, strategisch herausfordernd.
Eine feine Wirtschaftssimulation.
Tipps: 1. Vorsicht bei euren Handlungen an der Börse. 2. Sowohl der Zeitpunkt der Änderungen in der wirtschaftlichen Entwicklung (Boom - Depression, jeweils im März oder September), als auch das Angebot der nächsten Manager lassen sich durch neu laden verändern. 3. Zugräuber Festnahmen und Sonderkonditionen (z.B. Geld für Stadtanbindung) verdienen eine extra Speicherung.
Mankos: Es gibt Probleme, mit denen man leben kann. Der Schienenbau im falschen Moment kann zu Problemen führen. Wer den Schienenstrang im Bahnhof zweigleisig macht nachdem der Zug eingelaufen ist und die Ladung neu definiert wird, irritiert das Programm. Auch direkt vor Zügen ist das keine gute Idee. Es empfiehlt sich ein Konzept zur jährlichen, monatlichen und ausbautechnischen Speicherung.
Gelegentlich sind Szenarien second best programmiert. Bei Kanada/Holz wartete ich 5 Jahre für die Medaille trotz schwierigster Stufe, da zu diesem Zeitpunkt die Programmierung noch gar nicht überprüfte, ob die Bedingungen für einen Sieg gegeben waren. Insofern egal, da man die Jahre sehr schnell durchlaufen lassen kann. War bloß erst einmal irritiert.
Damit kommen wir auch schon zu der Möglichkeit, eigene Szenarien zu bauen. Die Hinweise, wie man das macht, sind unzureichend bis unklar. Allerdings kann man sich die Programmierung aller Szenarien ansehen. Besonders wenn man einige gespielt hat, wird dann so einiges klar und es fällt auch Laien mit logischem Grundverständnis leicht, eigene Szenarien zu entwickeln. Es ist allerdings mühsam und zeitaufwendig spielenderweise zu überprüfen, ob das dann auch funktioniert, denn Fehler schleichen sich leicht ein und manchmal sind die erst nach Jahren im Spiel erkennbar.
Wirklich lustig und völlig unverständlich ist, dass in meinen ersten selbst programmierten Szenario eine Stadt namens Skinny P.o.w zu F.l.i.m.s.y Pew umbenannt wurde (ohne Punkte). Hä? Doch halt, gab es da nicht so einen Song von Ami Winehouse? Alles klar! (Ein harmloses Wort, aber nicht im Slang.)
Knapp fünf Sterne, definitiv empfehlenswert, also viel Spaß mit dem Spiel.
On top of giving me the shot of nostalgic dopamine I need from time to time, this is a complex and addictive game. Don't let the early slow pace fool you - you'll soon be begging for mercy. And for more Railroad Tycoon, too. It's great fun and clunky in the best of ways, like an old locomotive.

Railroad Tycoon 2 ist wirklich zeitlos und es macht einfach Spaß es zu spielen, auch die Kampagnen. Es ist sehr gut gealtert und man kann sich die deutsche Sprachausgabe einfach runterladen und installieren, da das Spiel sonst in Englisch ist.

This was a great old game to play, though there are some issues when playing like settings not appearing until you start a game and my screens being moved which I hate when playing the game. But it was fun nonetheless.

An oldie, but a goodie.
I have played this game way back on the Play Station 1. What I did not like about that version is that you could only save the game between each scenario / chapter. So sometimes I would pause the game, leave and comeback much later. I would turn the TV on/off to save electricity / screen burn-in.
Now, I have purchased this for a few bucks and can't even play on Windows 11. I saw on a forum / post on here that there is a work around. But I am not really one to change codes & download unfamiliar 3rd part software.
Unless your knowledgeable about such things - DO NOT BUY THIS ON STEAM!

Nice throwback railroad game. Fairly straight forward to learn.
This game has an option for a sandbox mode. Which is select a map and just build your railroad, select your locomotives, you can even build other buildings. Like for instance, you can build more houses to increase your passenger traffic within a city! There is no money involved! I've built quite an extensive Railroad!

the fix suggested by Arghialla Phoenix (with the exception that cpu 0 only causes issues but cpu 1 only (or 2 only or 3 only or 4 only) work just fine (on windows 11 where i tested it now). getting into task manager works the 1st time, however if you tab out of the game (for example to open task manager a 2nd time), it won't maximize again, so keep that in mind.
other than that: game worked fine lots of ingame years with 0 issues and is generally a very good game

giving this a thumbs down because:
i have the issue of the game crashing after a few months in the round (this equals a 1-2 minutes of game time).
this can usually be solved by setting the game exe to windows xp compatibility mode. however, if i do it with this steam version of it, it starts complaining that it can't find steam and refuses to start as a result (= issue can not be solved).
i also own this game on another game platform (not naming which one but u can guess if i tell you to "go guess it") - and there changing the compatibility of the startup exe file does work just fine.
PS-comment section is open so if anyone knows how to solve this issue for the steam version, feel free to tell me and if that works, i'll gladly change this review to a positive one then
A great classic in tycoon style of games. I played it a a lot as a teen, but I was always more of a Transport Tycoon/OpenTTD guy. This one is more for train and history enthusiastics. Plays great on the Deck, straight out of the box, there's not much more to ask. Great stuff.
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE this game. I just couldn't make the Steam version work on Windows 10. Not with fiddling in nvidia control panel settings, not with dxwnd. I recommend the GOG version instead. That one actually works. Still needs the fiddling in nvidia control panel though.

i have the orig disk from the win 98/xp era and the computer still works. Now that this is on steam i can play on my modern laptop anywhere. System requirements are minimal.
Its a great game, however i do feel it has a few design flaws and i do suspect it of cheating.
one design flaw is no cloud saves. i get its an old re released game on steam but come on.
next is the save feature. Its kinda wonky as it dosent simply save your completed medals. Ypu must play in succession and start from the prev earned medal or your medals/progress dont appear so youll start from scratch.
next up is several senarios either cheat or have flaws. For example, the 2 Aussie senarios in the second season the huge cities like Sydney and perth have massive amounts of houses but theres never any passengers or very few to take. why? This is BS.15 houses and only 2 passenger cars a year? Sucks.
The aussie levels suck for other reasons too. The map is very sparse and the cities req inventory that is not avail on the map. couple this with minimal passengers fron the huge cities and its hard to move on to the next senario. The one has a requirement of personal net worth of 10 milion. But i feel the game cheats and slows your trains down untill "you get a call from your broker" and he sells all your shares just before the train is 2 pixels away from your station delivering a huge haul but took 2 months to move 5 pixels. Sucks. Then it deliveres and the stock shoots up again and your broke with zero,
The game also has an uncanny knack (or flat out cheats or is flawed) as 2 trains wilL ALWAYS come together at a bridge or a intersection to stall/delay progress. Using the throttle to spped up one to clear said bridge or intersection dosent work. so youll get one train stuck that will run over the other one on a single track.
The China senario sicks bad too. Too many mountians your trains cant overcome or take forever and theres not enough money to make becasue the trains take too long to arrive and te value drops the longer it takes to arrive.
one day someone will remake this game or a game like it that will ha ve a modern save feature and a better Ai.
Best Railroad game hands down. If there was a PC Game Hall of Fame, this would be a first round entry.
Classic RR tycoon 2. It rocks!
The next step in sim game greatness after Roller Coaster Tycoon was this game here. Very little on the updating of graphics, but a solid building game nonetheless. I had this game during the wave of games that you had to have a disc drive for many years ago. It still rates as one of my favorite all-time games. Connect cities and resources by rail across real maps around the world. Scenarios include dealing with time difficulties, income, map limitations and even the stock market! For a game around 25 years ago it still holds up. Scenarios do not take that long to play, but there are plenty to keep you occupied for months of game time.

Sadly I will not be playing this game anymore. The license agreement is no longer acceptable. First they take my money, then they change the agreement. And do you think they will give me a refund? If this ain't a bait and switch scam, I don't know what is!

I have been playing this game for years. I still enjoy going back every now and then. I like the random aspect of resource placement. I can look at the map and come up with a plan before starting. If the configuration of resources is not to my liking, I can restart and get a new setup.

Das Spiel kenne ich von der Erst-Veröffentlichung. Damals wurde es in deutsch angeboten, hier nur in englisch, was ich schade finde. Wenn es eine Möglichkeit, ein Sprachpaket hinzuzufügen, wäre es ein großer Vorteil.

A true classic. It’s awesome that besides railroad building, the game includes a solid financial component, complete with a stock market. That makes it a cut above—deeper and way more engaging.
Fun relaxing game, each skill level adds more to game. Trains are pretty detailed . Lots of locations,might even help you with an area your curious about around the world. And you don't have to pay extra for the many maps.

Ein absoluter Klassiker! Für mich ein tolles Retrogame mit Suchtpotential für ein paar sehr ruhige Stunden alleine wenn die alte Modelleisenbahn im Schrank bleiben soll. Das Wirtschafts-u. Bausystem ist einfach gehalten und leicht zu verstehen. Die Grafik ist dem Alter des Spiels entsprechend aber trotzdem Schick.

So many different scenerios time periods and trains to choose from. It allows you to lay individual pieces of track. The artwork and graphics are superb. Just alot of fun.
Einfaches Spiel, welches sich als komplexer Wirtschaftssimulator entpuppt. Nach heutigen Maßstäben ist die Grafik veraltet, aber dennoch liebevoll und detailliert umgesetzt.
Excellent economics, strategy does seriously affect the outcome. Track building is much easier than most train games, graphics are not 3D and modern, but are great in 99% of circumstances. I feel this game should be used for business students. It also does not have an immense learning curve like a lot of strategy games, but to play well.....
I used to own this game back when it was released and stopped playing it since Railroad Tycoon 3 was released but now since I found it on steam I can now enjoy the game like I used to when it was first released.
