The New York Times Crossword equivalent of Picross. Adjustability difficulty, and some tough puzzles, but by the time you get done with it they will all seem easier. Super clean UI.
Awesome game, and can essentially put it on "easy mode" for those that are struggling.
If you're looking for a good logic puzzle game, this one is excellent.
Definitely one of the better nonogram games I've played. The concept is a nice setup, even if the story really isn't that deep. What is really nifty is the titles they've given each of the puzzles, which are very clever and often funny. Highly recommended.

I played this game when it came out on IOS. I vowed to never get a Steam account ever. However, when I saw this was the only way to play this game (due to stupid stuff in the ios version), I got a steam account. That should show you how good this game is.
nice lil game, straightforward. larger puzzles can be broken up or done as one piece, which is nice. achievements are very doable
Good not great. The controls on my Deck are sluggish and mildly annoying, settings do not save upon closing the game on my Deck (can't speak for PC), and I vehemently despise nonogram puzzles that don't stick to grids sized in multiples of 5 (especially on large puzzles) because it forces you to stop on every single line to count spaces in either direction (at least add an in-game counter feature when you do this for god's sake!). An easy solution for the artists/developers regarding that last gripe is to simply include empty lines, which is a solution they know full-well because there are already puzzles that include them. The art is great though, it has large puzzles, and my minor annoyances do not outweigh the fun I am having with this game.
Very unique puzzles with a pleasing art style; you can tell someone with a lot of creativity designed these puzzles. Probably the most impressive part is that almost each puzzle has difficulty options that divides larger puzzles into sections, which I imagine was extremely hard to pull off.

- interesting accessibility(?) option that helps you maintain a straight line; however it makes the mouse a bit janky when moving it and it can take some getting used to. (can be turned off)

Paint it Back is a cool nonogram puzzle game, where you need to use logic to fill the correct squares in a grid, representing an image.
Compared to similar titles on Steam, this one seems to lack some quality-of-life features. However, you also have to consider that this is one of the older ones—it's also a mobile port. But it’s still a solid game that I enjoyed, with a nice presentation. There’s no timer, which can be seen as a negative, but I appreciate it because it removes pressure when solving. There are lots of puzzles to solve, plus Steam Workshop support. The soundtrack is very limited, so listen to your own music instead.
Bigger puzzles have a difficulty selection, which breaks them down into smaller sections. I still recommend going for the full picture since that’s the original puzzle. They can get big, with a size over 30x30, and some can take over an hour. Also, I can confirm that every puzzle can be beaten using logic without guessing. However, the difficulty is all over the place—the hardest puzzles to solve are usually in the middle of a chapter, followed by easier ones. There are in-game achievements, and the credits roll when you get them all.
So, overall, I can recommend this game if you’re a fan of nonograms or puzzle games in general. Despite some shortcomings, it has a ton of content and it’s enjoyable.

Paint it Back is a gallery full of nonogram/Picross-type puzzles with offbeat humor.
The gameplay is nice overall but is missing a few modern quality of life features present in similar games, such as a diamond/potential marking and a counting aid for larger areas. (The latter is really handy for reducing eyestrain.)
However, it does include options to make puzzles easier, such as dividing large pieces into smaller parts.
If you enjoy nonograms and don't mind the extra time spent counting boxes, it's fine.
Also, there's community made puzzles if you want even more. Neato.
Great puzzle game - chill and memorable music, LOTS of puzzles to solve, pi-cross style. Themed puzzle packs, and the pictures you make are fun to view in the "gallery" puzzle selector.
Very creative and fun images to find
This is a picross game I keep going back to over and over again. Sure, there's no third fill option for stuff that *might* be filled in, and it's a little annoying how it will fill in numbers before you've added all your x's, HOWEVER, it will not instantly correct my mistakes and that's the biggest thing that annoys me about other picross games.
Also, and this is what really keeps me coming back, it doesn't start at small puzzles and then become only really big puzzles, there's always the option to play at whatever size you want which I really love. It's also fun to do over puzzles in different sizes and see how they fit together, I never remember exactly where tiles went for that to be a problem anyways.
It's nonograms. Simple as that. If you enjoy these hidden picture puzzles like Picross or Griddlers, then this is a very enjoyable version. As someone constantly playing nonograms across multiple games/apps, this is highly recommended.

A good picross puzzle game with 150 levels of varying difficulties. One thing I wish the game would have is multicolored puzzles as when it shows you the painting you "painted" in the end it is colored, but the puzzle it is just black.
she queened out :( its a fun puzzle game that is not plot heavy whatsoever so it was always a good game to have off to the side while i was doing something else. sometimes you have to lock in on the puzzle and it can take a while but you'll get there. this game also made me feel smart :3

[i]Paint it Back[/i] is a wonderful addition to the Steam Picross/Nonogram puzzle library, and is a fantastic starting point for people who are not die-hard fans of the genre. I've included a list of the usual features this game has and doesn't have for people who are familiar with the gametype and want to know in the bottom of my review.
The main thing that sets [i]Paint it Back[/i] apart from its peers is its accessibility features, hence why I say it is a good starting point. Its "Helping Hand" feature highlights rows/column numbers in which progress could be made in the puzzle, providing some 'training wheels' to those who are more inexperienced with the puzzle type. This is a feature that is not often seen in these types of games. Additionally, while the game has larger puzzles (the largest of which being 36x40), you have the option of playing these puzzles on a "lower difficulty", in which the game will section off the larger puzzles into smaller sections. For example, a 20x20 puzzle may become four separate 10x10 puzzles. While I personally didn't use either of these features in my playthrough my first Picross game had a feature similar to the "Helping Hand", and it helped me to learn the ropes.
The other thing that is particularly notable is the game's polish. The animations, art style, and soundtrack are all well-executed. The tracks did not become grating even after my 20-hour complete playthrough, and the game oozes charm in both its aesthetic and its puzzle names.
There is a mode in which you will be presented with a random level from the base game, with the ability to earn medals for: completing the level within a certain time, completing the level while only erasing less than a certain number of cells, and completing the level while only using the X (or cross-out) feature a certain number of times. The requirements are relatively generous, but for my fellow achievement hunters, prepare for a time sink on levels you have already played.
Completing all of the achievements (which includes completing every individual puzzle and then a few other, more gimmicky solves) took me just over 20 hours. I make no claims to be a Nonogram expert, or a particularly fast puzzler, but I have quite a bit of experience with the puzzle type. There is also quite a range of difficulty: some of the later puzzles are quite challenging. In my opinion, there is quite a lot of content being offered for the price, especially if you pick it up during a sale.

One feature that is unique to this game ties with the absence of having the count be displayed for multi-select. The game does not lock you to a row or column as most others do. Rather, the game allows you to color wherever you want, potentially allowing you to complete a level in "one brush stroke". This is not an oversight, there are two achievements for doing just that. I find this decision bizarre, but it didn't impede my gameplay enough to mar my overall opinion.

Pretty much the most polished picross / nonogame game. There are just a couple of others i feel like about this level - but this is the absolute best introductionary one. The only thing it doesn't do is to count for you as you drag a number of squares (as some others do) but for the rest of a picross game, this is the best.
Well worth it. Great puzzle arts, however it lacks some quality of life features like marking cells / counting them, which makes it a bit harder than it has to be.

I love nonograms and Paint it Back is an excellent addition to the category. The controls are great with a controller and on Steam Deck. I greatly appreciate the meaty demo along with it transferring progress to the actual game after buying it. The variance in puzzle size within categories is a breath of fresh air. There are plenty of standard and non-standard sizes available here. The music, while I don't remember it does at the very least fit the game while you play it. I like it despite not being able to describe it more. This game is worth full price and I'm going to finish going through it over time.
Paint it Back, despite releasing years ago, sits in my Top 5 of nonogram games on Steam.

Having played quite a lot of Paint it Back and Pepper's Puzzles - probably among the best nonogram games on Steam - I'll simply offer a comparison of the two.
Paint it Back has better art, which is both more creative and better drawn. The difficulty curve is much smoother and more gradual in Paint it Back. But the user interface is a bit clunky, requiring more clicks than necessary, and missing some obvious quality-of-life features, like the ability to put down "marks" with a single action (e.g. middle mouse button, shift-click, or something), the ability to have more than one puzzle in progress at a time, etc. Paint it Back's puzzles are untimed, so there is no pressure. Paint it Back also offers a demo, so you can try before you buy.
Pepper's Puzzles is pretty much the reverse of what I wrote above. The art is a bit worse, and less creative, and the difficulty ramps up very steeply. On the other hand, it has a better, smoother user interface, better music, and an overall better experience. Pepper's Puzzles has a timer, and gives you a number of stars based on how quickly you solved each puzzle. The timer is generous, but still adds pressure to solve the puzzle quickly. This may be a positive or negative. I enjoy the pressure and challenge, but if I fail to get three stars, I don't enjoy being "forced" to re-solve the puzzle. To be clear, there's nothing in the game forcing you to re-solve anything and stars are basically meaningless; you could ignore the timer entirely if you like. It's just my completionist impulse. Pepper's Puzzles has no demo.
Both games offer a huge number of puzzles to solve. Overall, I've been playing more of Paint it Back than Pepper's Puzzles, simply because the art is better which makes the puzzles more fun to solve.

Paint it Back is my favorite non-Jupiter picross game, and I even enjoy it more than some Jupiter titles. One of the best features is the wide variety in puzzle sizes, this isn't like the standard Jupiter 10x10 and 15x15, you can get sizes that are usually reserved for the extra modes in the Picross S series. The pictures are also a little more off the wall and unique than most Jupiter games, as much as I love them. It also has workshop support, so you have further puzzles you can explore designed by the community.
I got this game back in 2015. Played it 24 hours straight. I got so addicted to it that I had to uninstall it. I love picross puzzles so much man. haha xD

There's a nice variety of puzzle sizes / difficulties.
There's a con that there's no placeholder mark & button. You have fill and X. I generally use the third type to help count out, but it's not absolutely necessary. It's a definite negative for me though.
A feature that depends on your view is it will auto-grey numbers you've fill from the edge. So if there's X's and fills up to that point it will grey the number. For the numbers in the middle you need to have X's after and up to the fills to have that number auto-grey, and if you have the right number of filled spaces they will all auto grey whether you have them in the right place or not, but you don't need to have all X's in the row/column to have this happen.
I made a cluster-bleep explaining this, but it's probably standard in how it works for picross games with this feature.
If you like picross this is a game for you.

後は通常ステージでMasterばかりクリアしていると、Normalのクリア回数が足りなかったりすることがあります。
经典数织游戏捏，以恢复博物馆画作为载体，可能是由于游戏比较早，关卡不多，难度不大，音乐单独，算法不是很完善，识别不了特殊块和区域。而且每次解决画作后会有结算动画很耽误时间。但是相比起来还是有优点的：
·艺术画作有内容，天马行空；
·大师画作具有三种困哪度，可以拆解为小关卡通关，比较适合无脑玩法；
·有帮助提示功能，可以避免错误块（但是动画还是很耽误时间）
——想速通大师作可以考虑用帮助解决到最后几块，再退出重新进入，可以直接通关。
不过再度接触数织又掌握了新招数，我愿称他为“Zone”，中文叫做“区域斩”，顾名思义，把区域整体纳入考虑范围，打破了以往每行每列互搏的局限，哟西

As someone who has done these kinds of puzzles for years, I can't recommend this one. There's been a couple of... "brave" choices in this game, including but not limited to:
* blank lines on the side of some puzzles. This isn't so bad if this game was consistent with the 5x5 guide grid, but it isn't. The combination of these two things is, again "brave" in the British sense of the word. Either commit to the 5x5 or adapt your grid so it doesn't have blank sidelines. Pick. One.
* timed challenge options without a timer. What even was the thought process behind this one.
* even the top tier of difficulty is barely more challenging than the easy one. Which is fun for anyone who is brand new to these puzzles, I guess, but that's not for me.
* the theme of the last room; the 2016 USA elections. Who thought of this. Apart from getting dated faster than fresh milk, the USAcentric theme in an internationally sold game, plus choosing one of the most divisive themes in a puzzle game, I really wonder what the devs were thinking with this one.
If you want to get into nonograms / picross / Japanese puzzles / Griddlers, there's aplenty free and better available. I even put a Good Reliable suggestion in the previous sentence that you can find on the interNET.

Los puzles son en blanco y negro, pero el juego en sí es muy colorido y tiene gráficos con una estética muy agradable y redondeada. Le he dedicado más de 65 horas, lo he completado al 100% y todavía hay más puzles mediante Steam Workshop, pero creo que ya le he dedicado suficiente tiempo, y he quedado plenamente satisfecho.
Slušně rozsáhlé nonogramy (malované křížovky). Od malých a jednoduchých až po velké složité. Pokud si netroufnete třeba na rozměr 30x40, tak můžete zvolit možnost, ve které luštíte obrázek po menších sekcích.

Look, if you know what these kinds of puzzles are, you are already interested. Sometimes the completion of a section doesn't properly grey out a number, but if you watch for it you should be fine. If any of THAT made Sense, just buy it. Cheap for a lot of puzzles. Controller works well.

The subjects of the illustrations are more original than in classic picross and Art lovers will discover very personal interpretations of great classics.
Some controls will frustrate experienced picross players.
A grid can be solved in different difficulty mode. Those if are assigned according to their size. In easy mode, a large image will be divided one several small grids to solve to form the final illustration. These fragments will sometimes offer more challenges than the overall image.

Picross with added challenges. I play mostly on the Steam Deck, and without any glitches. The workshop feature keeps the game entertaining while you create your own puzzles or solve those crafted by other players. Definitely recommend.
This is a really good Picross game! There are tons of puzzles in the base game, and also workshop support so that you can download fan-made puzzles. As other reviews have mentioned, the way the game decides to gray out numbers is a bit weird and different from other similar games, but its not horrible. The difficulty ramps up a bit faster than other games, but to make up for it, it offers you easier versions of the harder puzzles for less reward medals.

If you're an experienced picross/nonogram player, you probably won't like this game. This game has some serious issues when compared to other nonogram games:
- Number-completion indication occurs before you've even placed an x to indicate the end of a group of boxes. This is infuriating as you can't trust the completed/uncompleted number indications
- Can't set placeholder cells via middle mouse button
- Can't overwrite cells
- Vertical/horizontal locking when filling in rows/columns does not work. It should lock the row/column no matter where the mouse goes, vs just a small distance away from the row/column
- Some filled-in black squares are made lighter-black if the final picture has lighter color for that cell. It's dumb/distracting
- Difficulty is all over the place. A super easy "master" 30x30 puzzle will be placed after a very hard but only "pro" 20x20 puzzle. So normal/pro/master levels don't actually indicate difficulty, only grid size
- Some of the music tracks are glitchy, making them awful to listen to on good speakers
So yeah, go get Pepper's Puzzles or Murder by Numbers instead
Lots of fun. Wish there were more puzzles. Maybe I'll start over from scratch.
Really great Picross game. The paintings you fill out have a lot of character and go beyond just being generic pictures of dogs or objects. It has a lot of old-school charm as well, reminiscent of games you might play on Windows XP.

Amazing picross game, wish it had more puzzles but it was still worth the price for sure. As others have said, I also wish there was an achievement for 100% the game, or even just getting all the ribbons for each room, but thats more of a minor complaint.

Paint it Back is a picross game with two standout features: hilarious art and real difficulty settings.
Large pictures can be broken up into chunks by playing on lower difficulties, allowing for the fun of large paintings (30x30 and bigger) without the annoyance of doing a 30x30 picross puzzle.
Good but missing some quality of life features that would improve the game play a lot. Especially for the larger puzzles. Other than that though I had fun and it's a fairly typical piccross experience.
I've played this game for 797 hours. I feel like that's all I really need to say here.
Just a fun, chill game. Not too complicated that it can't be solved, but still poses a good challenge.

정가와 비교해도 가격대비 퍼즐 양이 많아 구매해도 문제 없지만 할인까지 한다면 고민할 이유가 없죠
가끔가다 하나씩 풀고 있는데 노래가 너무 좋아요
