I really enjoy this game for its tactical depth. However, the longer I play, the more repetitive the events feel. To be clear, it’s not that the events themselves are identical, but rather that I have to do too much "reading" Since the core mechanic boils down to picking an option to get specific stat bonuses, I’ve found myself caring less about the narrative and simply min maxing for the best stats. I believe the dev team needs to introduce more impactful gameplay additions to reduce this fatigue.

I’ve played Civ and Age of Wonders before; while I think Old World has superior tactical depth, those other titles do a better job of keeping me engaged for hours on end without feeling bored. For instance, in Civ, the progression through different eras introduces new elements and a fresh 'color palette' at each stage, which motivates me to see the game through to the end.

I hope to see more RPG elements in the future, such as a loot system where players can find items to equip on generals or cities to boost stats. Additionally, if possible, expanding into later eras (like the Middle Ages or the Renaissance) would add much needed discovery. Even a 'mythical' RNG element like a Kraken randomly appearing in the ocean, prompting nations to hunt it down for points or rare items would provide the kind of excitement that keeps me looking forward to every turn

I don't have too much experience with Civ-like games, but Old World got me from the start. 10 hour long tutorial did that.
At 36 hours currently I'm playing only my third game (one lost and one abandoned). It was slow and frankly taxing at first, but after getting everything automated, game let's you focus on the good stuff like relations, well being and espionage. It all boils down to keeping happines levels above 0, but you need to put some mind in it.
As many before me I need to applaud events system which coupled with the family system really gives you completely different experience each time. To my actual surprise. With your regular tech tree and policies that actually do change things, it leaves you with a lot of variation. To the point, when replaying a scenario you do have vastly different choices. Chosing right family really does matter, especially at first.

On the not so bright side I have some reservations regarding growth. As I mentioned before, you can automate most of the map movement (basically everything besides army menagement) which really helps when you are north of five cities, there will be a point in a game when basically all you do is moving your troops from one end of the map to the other. And maps are big, like propper BIG, so you might end up doing just that for 30ish turns. And then fights, unit after unit. And then you need to assign generals and promote your units. All of them. It's getting really tedious later on.

But that aside I really do enjoy that game and can recommend it to even less experienced players.

As someone who has played many thousands of hours of Civilization and Crusader Kings games, I can honestly say that Old World is the best strategy game I’ve ever played. And I’ve played them all. This is the crown achievement of the genre. From the beautiful music by Christopher Tin to the brilliant design by Soren Johnson, everything just works. The orders system alone makes most other 4X games feel outdated. It mixes deep strategy, family drama, and history in a way that is constantly interesting and surprisingly funny. I never thought anything would beat Civ IV BTS for me — but this game did. Don’t let a few negative opinions fool you. Old World isn’t just another 4X game, it’s what the whole genre has been trying to become for the last 20 years.

TL;DR:
Why Old World? Because:
-Antiquity ROCKS
-The devs know how to make a FUN game and they CARE (which isn't as common anymore it seems)
-Events and characters add a lot more variability!
-The devs roll out regular updates and DLCs years after release!

First of all, this game is wonderful and plays like it was a labor of love. Various events are awesome and add a lot to replayability (even a layer of GoT which is always appreciated!). Also the relationships and events between characters make them personable (instead of generic cardboard cutouts that just give you bonuses). Are assassinations a thing in this game? You bet! How about scheming/spying? Absolutely! What's that? A rival city is jealous of your cultural progress? You can fund the rebels in that town. The fact that this game is based on Antiquity makes you appreciate various decisions and details (unlike a generic game that covers 2000+ years). Names of different historical settlements are present, the game and DLCs have historical scenarios/campaigns (which are enjoyable as well). Random map generator is customizable too. With different nations and leader types, you can play in different ways, and/or achieve different victories, whether you prefer conquests, or victory points, or ambitions. Did I mention that this game is a lot of fun?

Music selection and sound design need to be complemented - everything fits very well.
The same goes for event paintings - they look great (with one exception: a painting for Zoroastrianism needs a perspective fix).

As cool as The Sacred and the Profane DLC is (with new mechanics and a ton of new events!), the mechanics of religions aren't very transparent - I think I've grasped most of them, but not completely still (encyclopedia isn't always helpful here).

Personal wishlist:

-The game has Confuscius and Aristotle as NPCs? Cool!.. Now wait a minute - Hypatia is in the game?! Neoplatonist is a TRAIT?! Sign me up! That begs a question: where are the other phenomenal philosophers of Ancient Greece/Antiquity, like Pythagoras/Socrates/Plato/Plotinus/Porphyry/Iamblicus/Proclus/Simplicius/Syrianus/etc.? I think that these people are integral for that period. Eagerly waiting for those to be added. Would gladly buy such DLC.

-Speaking of that, what if some characters are tied to their geographical origins? Like upon finding Miletus, somebody references Anaximander's teachings? What if Pythagoras emerges in this area and gives a bonus to science? There's a lot that can be added still! Wow, wouldn't that be great!

-Spy network mechanics appear late in the game, which is okay, but I think much more can be done there, i.e. options to assassinate a politician (not necessarily the leader), poison the city's well, or mislead the rival nation (i.e. they get a penalty in science for X amount of years) etc. These things could be tied to the agent/spymaster's abilities. What if something can be stirred before spymaster is an option?

-I would welcome more interactions with NPCs to add more of that GoT spice. Personally, I'm not a fan of purely negative events (I read that some of the DLCs do that), but prefer those that add choices and potential bonuses/penalties for even more depth (and there's a lot of them!).

-After a while of playing, I'd like to see more character portraits/names etc. And I will always gladly take more new events!

Overall, if you like Antiquity, and/or like Civ-type games, Old World is a gem and a must play. I already influenced my friend (see what I did there?) to buy OW, and keep recommending it to others.

P.S.:
I have to mention the wonderful mods that Emergent has made, specifically Plato's Cave, Plato's Republic, Philosophy of Science, and Aristotle's Categories. They seamlessly integrate into the game, I never turn them off - they are essential for me.

Оригинальная и классная игра. Развили идею цивилизации, причем с разных сторон. Не одна военная сила решает, приходится планировать политику, и здоров к месту "приказы", которые напрямую влияют на эффективность управления. И линия развития государя тоже неимвоерно добавляет колорит.
Частный пример, когда имя Рим, развитую армию, влез в войну на два фронта, и разумеется стал проигрывает, так как физически не хватала возможности оперирвоать войсками. Пока не втянул в войну на своей стороне союзника, пока расправлялись с ним, появилась возможность маневра.

Игра очень хороша и нестандратна, а главно - сбалансирована.

Скажу зразу плюсів більше чим мінусів, чи краща гра за циву ? да в десятки разів. З плюсів це зразу ШІ він розумний і нагне вас в 90% випадків, но якщо ви багатий дипломат то ніхто незабороняє натравити його одне на одного і кайфувати, дипломатія і торгівля тут працююють на всі 100 %, тут дуже логічна цепочка будівництва і виробництва, техи по умному побудовані і логічно виходять она з одної ( но прикол з музикою мене улибнув - поки ти не виучив теху музики вона грати не буде ну багато івнетів де її дають просто так тому непаримся - музика тут крута) прикази і муштра це локічно і повністю допомвнюють один одного - захотів повоювати похерив економіку, про скандали інтриги при сімях я мовчу, це і мінус і плюс (грав з другом у ного на 46 ходу прокнула громадянська війна і він згорів разом з стулом ). Але гра дає вибір і ти його приймаєш ( но не тоді коли в тебе син "мужеложець" ) тонни текста? я б не сказав, тобі хватає пари фраз щоб зрозуміти що відбувається тут ти поспорив на пянкі з сусіднім царьком і вяпному угарі виграв повноцінне місто - кайф ? Да кайф, бурі пожари засухи і тому подібне рандом, да еле він контрольований і класно коли він прцює в твою сторону. З мінусів скажу що поріг воходу високий але все вирішується простим переглядом обучалки на 20 ХВ, а от реальний мінуас це рандом при старті (із типу 4 гекса цитрусу або вина на старті) а якщо граєте в двох проти компа це перетворюється на довгі рестари поки обом невпадуть потрібні реси і це мінс. В підсумку купляйте - грайте, спочатку важкувато, але потім ця гра вам принесе тонну задоволення, всім прикасних любовниць, умних дітей, і чудових оргій при дворі.

This game has me hooked. It adds family dynasties and a few narrative elements to an otherwise Civ-like game in the classical era (or a bit earlier than that, mostly). There's an active developer who works with the community, on top of that. Updates are savegame compatible. I like how you can manage your leader's relations both inside and outside your empire's borders. You can try to directly win someone over to your side, or (if possible) use the head of that person's family or strengthen bonds through religion. About religion: you can switch pragmatically between pagan and 'world' religions as fits your political needs. Every move and every decision will cost you though, so prioritizing is key.

I like the game as it offers something new, but...

The game crashes regularly. It seems to be not affected by settings, as turning everything off or decreasing screen resolution does not help. I saw somebody else writting the same in year 2022...

I would prefer stable game even with 256 colors over wannabe fancy unstable one. Or if the game tells me from the begining that my hardware resources are not enough to play. For turned based game (where the code has option to decide what is done and when, as there is no pressure to do things in real time) it needs absurd hardware resources. I've never experienced my fans to spin that fast. Even though my machine is several years old, I can still play other - real time - strategy games without any hickups.

It's very possible that Old World s better than both Civ V and VI. I also say this as someone who has been playing Civ for 25 years. I play OW just as long and addictively. It's much more nuanced, and the family rule, as well as events, make it a much more engaging storyline than Civ each time you play. It goes without saying that Old World (with DLCs) crushes the lackluster Civ VII.
If you love Civ, than you will definitely enjoy OW.

I played this years ago and had trouble getting into it. It's surprisingly hard, coming from Civ. Over the years the Civ games have been getting easier and easier, the AI simply cannot keep up. Not so with this game. You have to really know what you're doing, which can take some time. Don't be afraid to play on the easier settings, especially until you get a handle on combat!

This game has a lot of great mechanics, good style, enjoyable events and city improvements. Enjoy the game combat, like the promotions, the resource gathering and training citizens to really enhance each tile improvement to maximum effect. HOWEVER, performance is attrocious and i've stopped playing, not just because it takes 4-5 minutes per turn, but during my turn selecting a unit and giving an order mostly won't work as the lag is bad. This happened before turn 80. Otherwise it is an amazing game. Perhaps Unity Engine was the wrong choice.

Edit: Also buildings can no longer be upgraded. I have to build all over the place the get the next upgrade.

Disappointing.

The introduction is good. The title screen and music are great, they set a good tone. I don't normally notice music but it stands out. The setting, staying in ancient times, I have no problems with, it seems appropriate. Some of the general ideas are good.

The first flaw I found was in a tutorial on combat. It's boring, mostly involving moving units. That's understandable but not interesting.

However, the real let down, and it's in similar games, but I don't know how it's not a bug, is that in the late game, turn ~80+, the End Turn takes 2-3+ minutes. This is sooo boring. It's not fun, especially as my actions at this stage are mundane. Potentially I could be taking more goals myself. But when I'm waiting so long my thoughts drift. On the last session I literally started playing another game while wait for the turns to complete. That was not fun.

This is a shame, as there is an enjoyable game here. But it just becomes unplayable, for me.

Another negative is the ambitions. I've only started 1 proper game, but I've had ~3 ambitions I could not complete. I got to 6 out of 7 wonders built, then there was no wonders left. I had 7 cities, but had a goal to have 8 governors, etc. That type of issue was frustrating. Especially as your essentially learning on the spot.

The Crusader Kings mechanics work, but I'm not a fan of that system, it's mostly boring. There's potential there, but I did not connect with it.

At this point, I intend to quite and play Splay the Spire 2 instead. That's a shame, as I was enjoying it despite the flaws, up until the wait time got too much.

It's a hard game to rate.

First the good, since I gave it a bad review:
- It is a very charming game. The events feel like a story, you familiarize yourself with your dynasty, it feels nice.
- Choices in the dilemas have consequences, usually in traits that impact the whole empire (slightly) or the person's "build" (locally, quite a bit). Being forced into a bad choice because you squandered your treasury hurts when your king gets a negative trait that halts what money production you had going.
- combat is simple enough once you play with it, and the overall learning curve isn't too bad.
- You place cities on pre-designated spaces, which sounds bad, but is kinda neat; Jerusalem will always be in the same place, whether it is founded by Babylon or Egypt.

Ok, now the bad:
- The game has a rough mix of slow pacing and not lasting long enough. I've only finished a single game, and it ended right as my borders were just touching my neighbors, it took that long to expand. If you speed run it, it would probably progress earlier, but I still won that game, which again shows the poor pacing.
- The UI is similarly a mix of great information, and where is the thing I'm looking for again? some of the print is tiny, some large, some of it behind menus, and others right there waiting to be clicked but the button looks like window dressing. You can get used to it, but expect some crashes and burns figuring it out.
- The economy of the game... ugh, this is probably my most hated part. You need a handful of resources (stone and wood, for example), but you may not start with that tech to get them. Ok, well you can stopgap that by clearing brush? maybe? I've never done it, but I saw the option once, because there is a limited number of orders you can give, and why would I order my troops who need to do fighting to stop and clear brush... and now I'm out of wood oh crap. Some civs start with no good quarries, or mines, or timber, and you have to just, deal with inferior all of that. I've quit several games because I realized Egypt just wasn't going to be able to build any wonders, for example.
- finally, I still haven't found a good way to manage city population (at 26 hours). I feel like doing that would help me understand the economy, but I dunno.

Overall:
I want to like the game, and I'll probably sink in more time trying to learn to like it, but for now... I'll probably play something else.

Grabbed it because so many of the positive reviews claim the AI is very competitive and good. As someone who is interested in AI design,

It really just is not.
I put my first game on making the game 100% even between player and AI(with the exception of hints giving some bonuses, but that is dev stupid idea). I had played the tutorial and that is it.
6 man game, complete snorfest for the whole experience till I got about 85% through on victory points(45 of 56), at which point every single AI decided to gang up on me because I had toggled the option during game creation.

That experience was awful, which you can say is my fault but it distilled how broken the game mechanics are:

Units have no move limit. They get "exhausted" but that just means it costs two of your global movepoints, which in lategame is a pittance. I got 80 "orders" per turn(moves), i often ended my turn with 30+ leftover. That means distance became nonexistance, for me and the enemy. We could "build" a unit in the capital and move it across the whole continent immediatly, then still fight. Mechanically that is a joke, but also setting wise, I did not know the ancients had teleportation.

Combine this with the fact that instant building(buying) in cities also breaks late game and you can spam 10 units a turn, then move all 10 onto any front anywhere on the next turn. The AI will do this, you will do it, it will become a tedious grindfest. Victory is also not something you can "rush", unlike in Civ(and I think Civ is pretty bad), which means you have to just wait and sit on your hands until the magical victory points accrue. But if like me you flipped the "everyone hates you lategame" switch, goodluck, if you lose a single city your wait time just went up 2 hours, and when you are fighting 1v5 you are going to smash your face in eventually.

But what about the AI? It doesnt know how to fight, those 10 units it prints a turn? Yea, it sure does build a lot of units really fast, which i mean, is not hard if you know how to press the instant build button. But it will take the first 5 units at the front and go "I can't win this, let me retreat" then in the SAME turn later on, move 10 other units to the front going "CHARGE". The amount of times I had to watch a turn thinking our combat was done only for it randomly halfway through decide to start a new offensive was so bad.

I also want to add, with infinite moveranges there just isn't much "good" or "bad" for the AI or a player to do. Yes units have counters, but you cant keep someone of your counter when units can move infinitely long and Zone of control is this wonky. So it really is just a slapfight where very unit tries to do exactly enough damage to kill the other, because overdamage is wasted.

The fact that I could hold 1v3 on my first time ever playing the game shows how utterly incapable the AI is to form cohesive fronts or optimize builds. (at 1v5 my back broke, but that is after 50 turns of hitting end turn and neglecting everything but combat)

I will give it that it successfully landed units across a small body of water, that might be more than CIV could do, but that does not make it good.

Other general critique:
I don't think I haver played a historical game that feels less in tune with its history. This game has 0 history flavor text, it has event texts(like mini stories), but when you get a tech, no flavor, when you get a unit, no flavor, they do graciously give you the option to click on a wiki link for some of these but I am not reading some garbage wiki article. If you are going to make a game set in historic times you can at least give some basic generic description and exploration of what the tool is, Civ is hilariously inaccurate in its history but I still appreciate the flavoring of a quote and a basic description of what this thing I am researching or building is.

As for the events and characters, its just not there. There are interesting moments that can transpire(My niece murdered me and my heir because I had legitimized my bastard and put her out of her heritage). But the mechanics are not backing it, in that murder above? No one cared, the wife of the murdered king never even spoke up. And that is ignoring that the niece was a 12 year old girl who somehow just stabied a 30 year old warrior and his 11 year old son, yea ok.

At one point the same murder niece(who was me at that point) imprisoned the head of a family because she was plotting against me. The family got a -40 happiness with me because I imprisoned "someone" of their family, no I imprisoned the family leader who was a famous warhero. But I got +60 relations because the person who took over after happened to like my character traits... ok sure. Also the daughter of the person I had thrown in jail(who later died in a prison riot) liked me just as much, no relationship impact at all.

So the gameplay is broken, the thematics are bad, the Crusador Kings mechanics are half baked... what does it have going for it?

I give it that it is trying to break some of the issues CIv has and I think the orders (global movelimit) is an interesting idea, so is legitimacy and the family line (even if taken from CrusadorKings) idea into a Civ like game. But it feels like the dev had some ideas that they thought would make their game unique but could never reconcile the mechanical implications of them. There are so many more issues the order system brings along than fixes, the incredible tedium of moving a unit 4 or more times per turn, the awkwardness of having to force march now vs remembering the unit at the end.(honestly force march should never have been a mechanic, it reeks of compromised design)

Genuinely, the best thing this game I can give is that it has one pretty nice track:
Directions by Steven Gutheinz is genuinely good and evokes some nostalgia in me for days I miss, though it doesn't fit the game's theme AT ALL. But still, listening to it in game was probably the best part of the experience.

Не верьте тем, кто пишет, что игра лучше, чем Civilization: может, по графике и глубине (по сравнению с пятой частью) я и соглашусь. Но насколько же проще и приятнее играть в циву, чем в это… Ни в одной игре я так не закатывал глаза и не засыпал!

Читать эти тексты оказалось не так интересно, как я думал, да и вжиться в роль у меня не вышло. В итоге стало очень скучно — и уже было плевать на весь этот социум, а ведь, кажется, в нём и заключалась фишка игры.

There’s a lot to like about this game, but the learning curve really shoots it in the foot. Even on the third-easiest difficulty, and with the help of several YouTube guides, I’m still getting outscaled by the AI. It’s nearly impossible to keep pace, and unless you have a significant advantage, you don’t stand much of a chance. Even wars against much smaller nations are extremely costly, and if you fall behind early it’s basically game over.

There might be something fundamentally wrong with how the fog of war functions in this game. In practice, it often leads to situations where you’re forced to reload turns or react to things you couldn’t reasonably anticipate. It doesn’t feel like meaningful strategy as much as trial and error.

The lower-difficulty AI probably needs some rethinking. As it stands, this isn’t a great introduction for new players—either to the game itself or to the genre.

If the game had better balance, a stronger introduction, clearer communication of power balance, and a tighter overall game loop (since it can become a bit of a slog), it would probably be worth full price. Right now, I’d recommend waiting for a sale. There’s a good chance you’ll need to invest a lot of time just to get comfortable with the mechanics, and I’m still not sure how deep the game’s long-term depth really is.

As an Antiquity history buff... best strategy game i've ever played. Everything from the names, RPG mechanics, random events et cetera is just incredible. Being able to build sprawling Pagan empires has me glued to my gaming laptop. Only *small* critique I have is gameplay late in the game can get quite laggy.

This is an absolute triumph of the 4x genre. So many layers of depth and complexity blend flawlessly together to create the hidden masterpiece that is Old World. Old World succeeds where so many other 4x games like Civilization or Humankind fail. Things like diplomacy, warfare, economy, internal political families are all done masterfully by Old World and quite honestly the rest of the 4x genre should be ashamed. This game has solved so many problems that long time Civ players have had with their franchise. I can only wait to see what Soren Johnson and company produce next! Thank you Old World!

Have another 60 hours on the Epic side and I will continue to play this game over and over again. This game is incredible. Yes, sometimes its a bit wordy and has a few threaded storylines pop in every "year" but it's charming and well-thought-out. If you are a 4x enthusiast, you have to play this game. Even if you aren't a big fan of the time period, you have to play this game.

Pretty unique gamn, huh. A lot of unusual decision points.

Action economy - you want to reach that backline with your warrior, or save some orders and start building another quarry? If you can't do both you need to decide what'd be the lesser evil

Tall vs wide - grab space with city A or leave it for city B? You can grow supertall cities, but you aren't really playing tall anyway, but maybe you can?

Tech counters - invade a forest with an army of slingers and you'll have a bad time. Invade a grassland with an army of spearmen... well that depends on your scouting info and the other guy's unit composition

Converting science into freebies or actual technologies - every pick really depends on the game state

Stop that Rising Star now or deal with their shenanigans later?

If you like decision-heavy roguelikes you'd probably like this game

Yes, yes, yes and once again yes, very cool concept and well executed, tech tree could be bigger and pacing a bit better (if you land on small island its hard to get to ships to start expanding), but over all i had alot of fun with this game, there is alot of scheming and itnrigue involved, your entire plan can be screwed up by single random event or your playthrough can be saved by it, right person dying or marrying another in right time can have incredible impact, it happened to me to get flooded in norrow land passage while imprtant battle was going on its other side, flood dealt demage and separated incoming troops and made me loose battle i would have won otherwise, as frustrating as it was i couldnt stop myself from starting another playthrough, all of those random events made story of my empre feel organic in a way.

I wish ugrading military units had more impact on their performence, so far it seemed like quantity is quality on its own and my high rank units led by experienced generals meant nothing against mass slinger spam, which is shame, i think idea was that limited order amount every turn is suppose to balance that but it didnt felt like it, i still love this game none the less.

Keine Ahnung wo die ganzen guten Reviews herkommen aber für mich lesen die sich alle wie bezahlte Fakes.
Wer Civ kennt und andere wirklich GUTE TBS wird hier ganz sicher nicht in Ekstase verfallen. Ein schnarchigeres Gameplay habe ich noch nie gesehen. Ich spiel Civ seit Teil 1( bis 6). Ich habe Colonization, Alpha Centauri und Test of Time gespielt. Ich habe Humankind gespielt (ebenfalls langweilig AF) aber dieses Spiel hier toppt alles in Sachen pure Langweile. Absolut NIE ist man in der Lage irgendwie Tempo aufzubauen. Es ist schier unnmöglich größere Invasionen vorzubereiten. Bevor man die nötigen Ressourcen und Einheiten angehäuft hat, ist man mit X Nationen im Clinch, muss Haus und Hof verheiraten und ist bereist im Internetzeitalter und quasie durch. Das ist ein richtig stinklangweiliger Version Crusader Kings und Civ7 (das schlechteste aller Zeiten) miteinander zu vermählen. The worst out of both worlds...

Sorry aber das ist eines der wenigen Male bei denen ich nicht mit >80% der Bewerter übereinstimme...

This is my favorite game that I do not enjoy playing. I am a 4x fan, and this is a game that I really wish I loved. I have given up on this game, then revisited it multiple times, each time thinking that maybe I'll like it better after each new update. For me the result is the same. I start playing, I try to like it, and the experience begins to grate on me.

On the positive side, the AI is pretty good. This game is the closest I've found in the 4x genre to feeling like I'm playing against a smart AI opponent that actually does stuff. I enjoy the time period depicted in this game. The ancient era has always appealed to me. I also like the innovative idea of mashing up Civ-like empire building with Crusader Kings-like role playing. Its a great idea, which sadly falls a bit short of its inspiration in both regards.

On the negative side, and maybe its just me, is that as I'm playing the game I gradually (after about two hours) wish that I was doing something else. I find that I'm mentally fatigued and the tedium of responding to endless pop-ups and text-based choices leaves me with a sense of just wanting to get it over with. Instead of being immersed in the experience, I just want it to end. At that point it occurs to me that I'm not actually having fun. I sigh and then shut it down. In settings, you can adjust the frequency of events or even turn them totally off, which is great, but then I'm left with half-a-game in a subpar Civ-like only experience that leaves me underwhelmed. In my own opinion, the map is not as appealing to look at as most other modern 4x games and the animations of the units moving around and doing stuff are lack-luster. I've turned the animations off on this game just so it becomes more like moving boardgame pieces around, which is more tolerable to me.

In the end, I'm simply disappointed, which is a huge shame because the developers have obviously put more love and care into this game than almost any other title I've ever seen. Old World is the type of game that I really wish I loved and I'm not entirely sure why I don't. It has all the components of games that I love. I just feel that each individual component is better implemented elsewhere.

As an Iraqi who was born in Babel (modern day place where Babylon existed), this game made me understand my roots more, as a 4x game it does the genre in a good way, lots of innovations in the systems, the game is balanced and the AI is great, even at normal difficulty it feels great, the dev team isn't greedy and they keep updating the game with free engine upgrades, and balancing as well as encouraging the multiplayer fanbase by holding tournaments, the music is heavenly I wish there will be more music in the future, they even used Classical Iraqi songs and Egyptian songs in the play list which is crazy for the music department to find, overall i give this game 10/10 it scratches an itch I didn't know I had, and mohawk games have my support and love, i will keep playing this game, and support the devs as much as possible this game is a gem.

Difficulties of this game are like: Normal, Unfair, Very Hard, Impossible, Invencible, Unwinnable and so on. Well made game, but should have better balance, enemies always have much more resources, armies and orders than you and you can only win by building a city that matches the desires of your ruler. If the oponents don't get winning points faster. It is very innovative, but the system of events hapenning so often annoys when you are in a war. Conclusion: I am still looking for a game of city building with inheritance of rulers, this one is too annoying.

This game is exactly what I have always wanted from a civilization like strategy game. Its got the simple and intuitive 4X gameplay like Civilization with a character system like Crusader Kings which makes the world feel real and like you are truly creating history as your empire progresses and you look back at the lineage of rulers and advisors and their different accomplishments. You as a ruler are actually within the world and must manage the opinions of the people in your court, the religious leaders and the families which rule your cities along with ensuring you raise a educated and well taught heir simulating imperial court dynamics in a way which I have only seen in much more complicated games which are practically glorified spreadsheets. The way you give out a certain amount of orders each turn to your units depending on factors like your legitimacy simulating your empire's administrative capacity is a great way to combat late game fatigue when you have tons of units and makes you think about every action even if its just whether or not you need to build another farm unlike a game like civ where you have no reason not to if the unit is available. And the undo button is such a nice feature which I don't know why more games don't have there have been so many times where a stupid accidental move or something cost me a unit or made me reload a save in civ. Along with the DLC which add new civilizations and gameplay updates the game is also constantly getting free updates which improve things like graphics and reworking systems to make the game better like when they changed cities to no longer require a garrison to appoint a governor which I think was a great change. If you are at all a fan of 4X or civilization like games then you should try this game it is in my opinion the best 4X game to come out in recent years when we have been getting so many which are half-baked and mediocre.

Este juego de estrategia lo estuve mirando un tiempo antes de comprarlo ya que tenía muy buenas reseñas en general por lo que me hizo pensar que puede estar bien. Ahora puedo asegurar que le he dedicado varias horas de juego, más el tutorial y me he aburrido mucho. El mapa de campaña es fijo no te deja elegir donde fundar las ciudades, los turnos se hacen lentos sobre todo para investigar las tecnologías y los gráficos son bastantes mediocres. En conclusión no lo recomiendo ya que hay que dedicarle mucho tiempo para que avance la partida donde al final te das cuenta que todo es muy repetitivo.

Tolles Spiel. Ich habe dieses Spiel durch Zufall entdeckt weil ich vom neuem CiV7 so enttäuscht und gelangweilt war. Alles was ich bei Civ7 vermisste fand ich hier wieder. Das Spiel ist komplex und abwechslungsreich. Ich kann es jedem empfehlen, der Strategie und Aufbauspiele mag. Es gibt Ähnlichkeiten zu Civ 6 und abwärts, trotzdem ist das Spiel erfrischend anders. Lang lebe das Imperium und die Familie.
