TLDR: A great way to spend some time both on your own or with friends. While I wish there was a bit more variety to the levels, otherwise a solid experience for one and all.

Given the ration of success vs. disappointment via Kickstarter games, Mercenary Kings certainly delivers. Tribute Games made a good choice collaborating with Paul Robertson (Scott Pilgrim) as the art style, along with the customization, really go a long way in making this particular game stand out among the crowd. Given the somewhat homogenized aspect of the AAA titles (that, yes, I do play) it is nice to see an indie game come out that manages to put many of them to shame.

Presentation: Robertson's contribution is immediately apparent. Anyone who had read the (excellent) Scott Pilgrim series will recognize his style. And it's a style that I like. The game is a 2D platformer but it has a lot of punch - and make no mistake, a lot of violence to go along with it - but yet it is so vibrant it never feels that gory (even though it kind of is). Even though there are only two characters to choose from (King or Empress), you can still tell who is who - and the enemy design is likewise impressive, with some of the bosses, though frustrating at times, standing out all the more.

The music is a tribute to the 8-bit generation of games, though with much better quality. It's good when the music stays with you after the game, and Mercenary Kings has a music style as unique as the art and thus is also a plus in my book. Likewise the sound effects, from the various guns to enemies dying, is also well done. The main characters do have a short vocal selection (though much of the in-game dialogue is text-based) and it's OK though obviously not the focus here. It does at least give you some sense the characters have their own personalities.

Overall, I found the presentation to be top-notch with very few issues other than a late-game bug that sometimes popped up after completing a level. Also, make sure not to be running two versions of Steam as, at one point, I thought my game had been erased, but it was just Steam acting up. I shut it down and it worked but for a moment I was crushed.

Story: It's the age-old conflict of good vs. evil - and it plays out just like you would suspect. Like a mix of Rambo, The A-Team and Get Smart it features a cranky war hero general running a vigilante group known as the Mercenary Kings as he takes on his arch-rival Baron and the evil CLAW. While you do all the shooting, you're backed by an impressive group of support from a southern-drawling helicopter pilot to a shady spy who keeps track of what enemies you kill to a delightful robot who helps you go on or offline. Of course there are people to supply you with weapons, mods and items as well as an Australian who is an expert with knives and a cook as well (because, why not?). Oh, an a pair of brothers who help you put cute (or horrific) designs on your personal tent. Anyway, the majority of the game finds you fighting CLAW across an island with a secret lab as they try to harness the innate magical ability of the resident Mandrakes (who resemble walking turnips) as well as an even bigger treasure hiding in the ruins. You run into grunts and big mechanized enemies alike as a wider conspiracy plays out. Though most of the twists are apparent, the story is still pretty good for this kind of game and the banter is quite witty across the board.

Gameplay: You will run across many review on Steam that bill Mercenary Kings as a spiritual successor to the Metal Slug games. But while you do run and certainly gun - that's not actually a fair assessment. Mercenary Kings is much more of a 2D platformer than anything else - where you actually have to pay attention to patterns and such - especially during boss battles. Jumping, as such, isn't the game's strong suit and, should you be weighed down by all your equipment, mods and items, it can get downright horrendous - remember kids, lighter is better - don't be a fatty!

The bread-and-butter of Mercenary Kings is its customization. Granted, in order to craft the perfect weapon, you will also have to find the right materials. That does lead to a fair bit of grinding (DAMN YOU GAME I JUST WANTED A F*$^ING TURTLE SHELL) and also a good bit of cash, but I didn't find it all that demanding. Some levels are short enough you can breeze through in minutes and get wads of cash plus selling unwanted material is another great way at getting money. Your gun can be anything from a shotgun with acid and armor-piercing rounds to an assault rifle that shoots bounding hearts that set enemies on fire. Pistols, rocket launchers, sniper rifles - from the barrel to ammo to grip to sight and more - you can make hundreds of adjustments until you find a weapon that suits your style. Some are powerful but reload slowly. Others fire rapidly and reload so fast you don't even have to do it manually. It's amazing the amount of combinations you can get and it really makes the game stand out. You can also equip mods that can make you run faster, shoot harder, dodge better or give you immunity to certain elements like electricity or fire. Most mods give you something positive and negative - like making you reload instantly but lowering your clip size and damage. You often have to choose what you're willing to sacrifice to suit your play style.

If there is any flaw to Mercenary Kings for me, it is that the levels tend to repeat a bit too much and that the enemies tend to get too strong too fast. Every rank you increase also gives you access to bigger and better guns and mods. That also means enemies become stronger and, if you don't upgrade your weapons accordingly, you'll find even common enemies become bullet sponges. Bosses can be frustrating as well - as they often soak up damage only to disappear to another point on the map. Chasing them around can get annoying. Certain levels also make you capture bosses with specific grenades. All in all, if you try to complete this quickly, you will probably notice how much repeats. Playing alone doesn't make the enemies so bad, but as you add more and more people, it becomes that much harder to take down enemies and bosses. It's fun but can get frustrating.

Replayability: Given the many achievements you can accumulate and the large variety of weapons to try out, Mercenary Kings gives you plenty to return to again and again.

Поклонникам Moster Hunter, с его сбором ресурсов и изготовлением из них всякого, возможно будет интересно. По мне - игра чудовищно скучная. Конечно же, повёлся на визуальный ряд, вдохновленный Metal Slug. Но это не аркадная пострелушка в духе него же, Contra и прочего. Это именно занудное хождение по одним и тем же уровням снова и снова, с одними и теми же противниками

Mercenary Kings: Reloaded Edition is a 2D Action Platformer with Metroidvania elements where you are a part of resistance soldier going against a group called CLAW that wants to misuse the Mandrake Formula.

The game consists of Military Rankings where you start as a soldier and then complete missions to rank up your hero and get stronger, each military rank consists of multiple missions with main and side objects that will give you ranking points. During the missions you will gather materials and defeat different enemies / bosses.

There is also your Camp / HQ where you can craft new weaponry and items that will help you on your missions. There are many different weapons from Assaulting rifles to magnum guns to elemental weapons which you can choose to what matches your playstyle.

The music and soundtracks were top notch, amazing art style as well stage designs, the devs really put so much love into this.

Solid controls and gameplay mechanics. The boss fights were fun where some can be found in middle of the stages or end of the stages.

This is a really cool 2D Action Platformer with much love poured into it. Really recommended if you love Metal Slug games / art style or 2D Action Platformers in general.

Uwielbiam tę grę, co zresztą widać po czasie jaki jej poświęciłem i odblokowaniu wszystkich osiągnięć. Dla mnie nie ma wad. To doskonała strzelanka 2D. Grafika, animacja, muzyka i sterowanie są na najwyższym poziomie. Strzelanie daje mnóstwo satysfakcji i nie nudzi mimo częstego powtarzania poziomów. Jest tu naprawdę dużo rzeczy do zbudowania i odblokowania, dlatego farmienie jest na porządku dziennym. Samej broni palnej jest tu grubo ponad 100.

Jedyne z czym miałem problem, to z synchronizacją pionową i szarpaniem obrazu. Gram na karcie RTX 3050, więc nie chodzi o brak mocy, tym bardziej, że gra nie jest wymagająca. Na szczęście mogłem włączyć synchronizację pionową w ustawieniach NVIDIA i od tego czasu gra śmiga aż miło.

作为一款小游戏来说还算不错了，30+小时任务都过了一遍，也算通关了，难度也不算太高。
+开始玩的时候会觉得换子弹这个设定比较别扭，打起来也没合金弹头那样爽快，不过习惯了之后打起来也没什么不适合。
+武器方面配法有很多，不过因为材料有限，不能全做，不过也够配很多种多样了。
-关卡大部分都是重复的，但游戏流程不算特别长，还没到很腻的程度。
-比较蛋疼的是C4的设定，因为只能带一个，算上电池呼叫支援的，也常常需要找C4，比较麻烦。
-通关之后只能刷刷刷，也不弄个秘境什么的。没什么刷下去的动力了。

怀旧类型的游戏，感觉可以做的更好。

I've been playing Mercenary Kings: Reloaded Edition for almost 6 hours now, and suddenly I'm stuck. At first, everything seemed a little slow and uncomfortable, but then I got involved: I figured out the crafting, started collecting my weapons, and it became really interesting. Visually — cool pixel graphics, in the spirit of old arcades, but with lots of details. The missions are short but varied, and sometimes they get annoying, especially the bosses — you have to think and not go ahead. The music is cheerful and adapts well to the action. I'm playing alone for now, but I feel like it's going to be a lot more fun working with friends. In general, it's a great thing if you want something old—school, but with modern features. I didn't think I'd get stuck, but now I'm definitely going to move on.

パッと見で「メタルスラッグ」かな？と思いきやシステムは「モンハン」に近い。
同じエリアを別の目的で攻略、素材を集めて武器防具を強化、事前のアイテム準備も重要、料理でバフ、属性武器、協力プレイ……などなど
意外ではあったもののやってみるとしっかり面白い。

Pros:
-Nice sprites
-Melees and rolls add some depth to combat
-I like the robot character

Cons:
-Game design is too old-school for me
-Can't shoot down unless in air, can't shoot diagonally [lots of flying enemies you can't hit because they are at odd angles but will still hit you] (mouse/joystick aiming is a thing now fyi)
-Enemies respawn the second you leave a screen
-Take damage upon collision with mobs (the guy doesn't have spikes and isn't on fire, so why am I taking damage? is his shirt poisonous or something?)
-Time limits (bosses leave an area and respawn somewhere else a few times before they die, which requires running back and forth across the map to find where it respawned while dealing with the constant enemy respawns to kill the boss before the time runs out. Sigh.)
-I like the idea of the crafting system, but it is quite grindy
-As many other people have mentioned, not a lot of map variety
-If you are doing coop, you can't finish the mission with just one of you alive

<佣兵之王重置版> 有汉化，汉化质量不错。

喜欢的估计会特别喜欢，不喜欢就像我这样觉得烦。

任务和剧情？哎···反正一堆奇奇怪怪的跑腿刷时间任务···
多玩几把就会发现都是些重复的没营养的任务。

任务很多但重复，地图没多少但总要重复来回跑，
物品栏数量超少且恶心人。
地图上有任务点位置，要频繁看地图确认任务点挺烦的。

物品栏也是恶心透顶了，明明有好多物品，但偏偏只能在物品栏塞几个，剩下只能任务里捡，如果捡错了还丢不掉！

主线其实并不多，但解锁主线还得在支线刷刷刷···
虽然不要全刷但也很烦。

还有一堆奇奇怪怪的定制选项。
武器过于个性化了，都不知道选啥。
通关了都不知道弹药和武器到底啥关系。
得~反正随便配了无脑冲就是了。

任务装备建议固定C4（炸门）和电击手雷（俘虏敌人）
其他用处不大。还占位置，虽然地图都能刷到但有了比较方便。

剧情流水账：

爪牙袭击了曼德拉克项目，并俘虏了詹姆斯·雷尔博士。
这个项目研究出一种生物再生技术，地点在曼德拉克岛上。

塔斯克派遣4名佣兵去小岛上救博士惨遭失败，最终主角（4选1）被抢救下来准备重启营救计划。

主角在狩猎场着陆并前往营区顶部。
在营区顶部这里集中了对抗巴伦和他的爪牙军队的指挥部。

韦伦和鲁尼恩负责运营营地（自定义营地）；
凯迪拉克是收集情报的地下党（敌人数据库）；
泽萝是无线电情报员（剧情播报+联机）；
金门是负责物资供应（装备商店）；
铃兰博士负责研发强化模块（升级）；
塔斯克派活（任务单）；
鲍比是直升机飞行员能带主角去战区（任务出发）；

从塔斯克那接任务，首先从新兵等级开始。
任务标识红色的为主线，只要红色任务出现可以直接完成红色任务解锁下一个级别。
没必要全部任务都做，只要主线完成即可。

新兵->
枪与刀：营救劳力丝（用材料改装枪械店铺）
拯救艾恩赛德：营救人质。
从无线电收到艾恩赛德的求救信号。
拷打小屋：营救艾恩赛德（刀匠）。
得知爪牙在建钢铁将士。
钢铁兵：打败中立钢铁兵（它会在几个Boss区来回跑）
锁定狙击手：干掉8个独眼狙击手
生物学家：营救生物学家。
得知巴伦的钢铁兵的位置
告密者：抓住钢铁兵获取巴伦情报。会遇到巴伦和钢铁兵对话时候发现主角出现立马要求钢铁兵上机甲，巴伦逃了。
要在机甲变红后丢电击手雷俘获（干掉机甲会导致任务失败）。

列兵->
突破：摧毁前往军事城的路障。
可以降落：潜入基地确认帮降落点。
抵抗军万岁：找到潜伏在城里的抵抗军。
从抵抗军领袖瓦尔哈拉那得知情报西塔是指挥中心
驱逐令：消灭西塔建筑物里的敌人。
从西塔那收集到情报指出胡子阁下为他们准备了一支漫游者，而手下似乎并不感冒。
四面楚歌：前海军陆战队成员丁骨在爪牙的餐厅里当厨师暴露后开始突突突，营救对方。
丁骨会成为营地的厨师，获取每日食品。
战役之城：突袭漫游者（机械坦克）和爪牙团正带着秘密文件穿过城市，抓捕他们（用电击炸弹）

下士->
加急转移：A17摩天楼的燃料库那安置C4给敌人一个惊喜。
X文件：拯救抵抗组织成员并获取手提箱。
战争工程师：联系叛变爪牙的工程师。
巴伦的战争指挥室：摧毁收发器（会遇到狗狗Boss，直接打收发器就能完成任务，boss可以躲开攻击即可），解决掉指挥室。
巴伦很生气并扬言工人都被抓起来了。
自动兵工厂：消灭哨械机枪。
电子二人组：抓捕水坝上的钢铁兵。

劳立丝MIA：营救被俘虏的劳立丝（要用C4）。
水坝入侵者：爪牙又到水坝那了，帮乔找到着陆点。
蓝图计划：前往水坝偷取控制室中的计划蓝图。
从计划中得知大坝不仅发电还是武器储备点。
主队远征：摧毁大坝的武器储存点。
现成熏烤：爪牙打算靠燃烧武器驱赶抵抗军，消灭火焰巡逻兵。
招募反抗者：抓捕燃烧漫游者（红色坦克boss？）。
完蛋了？：爪牙派出巨人骑兵原型对抗抵抗军！
从凯迪拉克那得知爪牙在转移位置，并可能打算炸毁小岛。

中尉->
电池营：摧毁战俘营新升级的发电机。
战俘营之谜：新发电机没有连接到战俘营地，找出它的用途。
抓捕巨型游骑兵后发现尽头的巨型鲨鱼潜艇。
丛林抢劫：抢钢铁兵存放在鲨鱼潜艇内的稀有材料。
全面武装的守护着：鲨鱼潜艇离开前江追踪装置放置在潜艇内。
鲨鱼潜艇前往堡垒大坝的秘密区域，主角们找到了入口在发电所阿尔法。
阿尔法发电所：潜入发电所。
潜入发电所发现爆破门，但门太坚固暂时没法爆破，只好另寻入口。
看门狗：新型机械怪物，明斯特兰犬守卫着通往阿尔法发电所的路，不用管那蠢狗，炸开通路即可。
得知比尔教授在发电所内，准备前往救援。

上尉->
在那间房间里：攻破发电所后清理东部隧道。
后面这段对话没汉化
智囊团：营救再阿尔法发电所里的工程师，他们可能知道雷尔博士所在地。
从工程师那得知发电所用于建造新宠物车计划，会飞的坦克末日猎犬。
并得知雷尔博士位置。
末日计划：寻找末日猎犬的蓝图。
战争护卫：干掉在堡垒附近巡逻的巨人骑兵。
零单位：消灭末日猎犬原型机。
巴伦战役：打败开着末日猎犬的巴伦将军。
巴伦被打败后爪牙大势已去，结果有冒出了新的敌人率领爪牙残部。

少校->
神圣沼泽：乔比探测到爪牙部队正深入丛林的神庙里。
到达神庙遇到3名敌人并传送离开，并得知巴伦将手下进化成定时炸弹了。
前往破旧神庙：调查爪牙想干嘛，通过通道到达画廊。
石门：摧毁挡住快速通往神庙的路上的石门（要多个C4）。
无主珍宝：抢爪牙收集的金币。
隐藏的知识：爪牙并非收集金币，查明他们在找什么。
石板中记录着不能进入地下，否者会让世界被破坏。
地下室看门者：阻止爪牙进入地下室。
生物学家战争失踪人员：拯救被食人族送到神庙里的厄伦美厄。
亡命之徒阿尔法·坦戈：为生物学家厄伦美厄寻找些样品。
暴力之王：爪牙部队找到了方舟后被打败了，阻止并干掉暴力国王防止世界被破坏。
当主角们打败暴力国王x2后方舟被敌人（3名上等兵）传送走了。

塔斯克上校->
密码破译者：找到爪牙的译码员的报告。
从报告中得知方舟只是容器，并得知上等兵正建发电所准备将方舟的能量吸干。
设施内部：泽萝检测到方舟的辐射数据在水坝东侧。
潜入后得知爪牙用方舟的能量为钢铁怪物提供能源。
终端：摧毁进入设施内部的安全终端。
工厂停电：摧毁反应堆。
机器人启示录：摧毁特定区域的机器人。
方舟之战：上等兵完成了方舟电池并准备用于大规模设备，阻止他们（3名上等兵）。

完成任务后似乎营地出了问题，从铃兰那得知雷尔博士的尸体有问题！
回到营地从上校那得知为了安全他让乔比带其他人去更安全的位置。
调查雷尔博士的尸体，尸体立马变成大型曼德拉克怪物···

消灭怪物后得知微观电脑开始控制各个机械准备毁灭世界。
主角们则准备关闭这个微观电脑···
从塔斯克上校的Boss那得知如果上校无法完成任务，那大Boss会考虑直接炸毁岛屿···

上校->
活死人：上一个章节干掉雷尔博士尸体的那个任务。
系统关闭：回到设施找到并摧毁方舟电池的计算核心。结果干掉那雷尔博士就把设备自爆了。任务完成后雷尔发信息告诉主角们他的位置并称到时候会说明一切。
恐怖实验室：前往雷尔博士的实验室，结果对方只是做个测试···消灭雷尔博士的好几个克隆人，看来雷尔博士变成疯狂科学家成为主角的敌人了。
多样性：雷尔博士正在利用克隆设备暴兵，摧毁设备。
操控犬吠：处理那只阿尔法小狗，逮住它，不然它总有各种比主角还强力的机器狗。
主角把阿尔法的小狗抓回狗栏，这时候之前消灭的巴伦突然出现！！发现原来是雷尔博士阻隔了他和他的军队的力量，并称他会抢回微观电脑重建军队消灭主角们。
计算机奔溃：整个设备由一个单一的AI运行，摧毁那个计算机终止雷尔博士的计划。

消灭计算机后，获得量子芯片，正准备离开时巴伦突然出现准备获取方舟电池，但此时却被电池电击一时间无法行动，而后被突然传送过来的塔斯克上校一枪崩了···emm···

之后雷尔博士来电要主角们将方舟带到特定位置，现在岛上到处是爪牙部队。

上将->
钢铁兵小分队：消灭钢铁兵（以前还是大Boss级别的，现在变成小Boss了···）。
金属破坏：开机甲（钢铁兵套装）一路破坏。
救救泽萝小姐：爪牙要发射导弹袭击泽萝的卫星，摧毁发射装置（明明目标就没多远，可偏偏有个墙堵着，还有2个Boss！）。
曼德拉克感染：消灭入侵丛林的曼德拉克。
完成后曼德拉克居然会说话，并向主角们妥协！
克隆战争：铃兰被雷尔博士绑架了，他想用铃兰来创建克隆人军队，救她出来。铃兰不在黄色区域内，在恐怖实验室那。
生死关头：前往雷尔教授的避难所，消灭罪魁祸首雷尔博士。

完成任务后四眼Boss要求塔斯克把曼德拉的成果方舟取回并打算卖出···并认为国王是不安定因素，塔斯克表示他绝不背叛“国王们”···

Mercenary Kings is a game I greatly enjoyed, but it unfortunately overstayed its welcome.

In regards to negative reviews, it seems to be a result of people expecting something different than what it delivers. I can understand that- It's a very creative game that is trying to do it's own thing by mixing a bunch of genres/games together into a new thing. To simply break it down:

- The art style of Scott Pilgrim vs the World
- The the animation style of Metal Slug
- The controls of Mega Man
- The reloading style from Gears of War
- The Hub/Mission/Crafting structure of Monster Hunter

Out of this you get a decent game. I was able to play with a friend, and we had a blast. You build your own gun, equip character perks, and jump into a mission in an large open 2D environment. You have a set amount of time to complete your mission task: Rescue, Kill, Capture, or Collect. Combat feels perfectly retro- it's a bit stiff but very familiar for precision platformer players.There are quick text cutscenes that play after most missions to provide fun and lighthearted plot development.

There are two major issues this game has that may turn away some players. One is that many enemies, including bosses, are recolored and reused throughout the game multiple times. For example, you might have a boss that's in a tank. Well that tank is reskinned for a frost, fire, and electric tank with no changes to boss behavior at all. It gets repetitive to a shocking degree- making it very obvious they ran out of development money or time. Instead of making the game short and sweet with the content they had, it is instead milked as much as possible.

The second issue is that bosses are bullet sponges, and it's really easy to exploit stun locking using stun grenades. You can cheese many bosses and will often do so towards the end of the game, because it's so hard to dodge their attacks.

In general the game's great - nice art, silly and crazy guncrafting, great co-op. I've put in plenty of hours and enjoyed them, which is why I'm recommending the title. However...there are some caveats:

1) The platforming and movement can feel unresponsive or sluggish, especially since equipment weight factors into jump distance and movement speed. Why the developers did this, I have no idea. It detracts heavily from the action and punishes you for using fun, large magazine weapons like machine guns. Balance might be a consideration, but larger magazines already lower damage-per-shot, so what purpose does further punishing you by making your movement sluggish (in a timed platformer, no less!) serve? Nothing, in my opinion - it's a decision at odds with the gameplay style. Yes, I'm aware there are ways to overcome this - you can put away your weapon (in an action platformer? nonsensical), you can craft bionic mods (which often come with their own penalties), you can use radioed-in crates to extend your jump... but should the player have to go through all this rigmarole in an action platformer?

2) Some of the maps are tediously designed, with one false move ending your attempt to pass the mission and requiring you to restart the map completely - that's on top of the ever-present timer. They also require very specific setups in order to make it to the end, which you'll likely not realize until you attempt and fail it once. Rush'n'retrieve at Captain rank comes immediately to mind.

3) The timer - every mission is timed. Some are more generously timed, generally when you have to find materials or rescue hostages. Others have such small time windows that they require a flawless run to the objective or fail.

4) Material grinding. It's a tedious way to pad gameplay hours, especially with the RNG loot drops. I put up with it because I played a lot of my time co-op, so it was mostly all done with friends. However, if this bothers you, be warned it's a major part of the game. I'd recommend cheating your way around it, but part of the enjoyment is unlocking new parts because you earned the materials to do so. Be warned.

Una vez pasado el juego, la rejugabilidad es muy baja, salvo que seas un completista de logros. Y en tal caso, prepárate para farmear los logros del juego de la forma más tediosa: Repitiendo una y otra vez las mismas misiones, decenas de veces.

El cooperativo añade unas horas también.

Everything about this game is awesome but the Timer kills it. Unless you like speed runs you will not enjoy this game. I would not mind the timer so much if they gave you enough time but they don't. What makes it worst is there are branching paths you can take and you will not see most of them because you are trying to beat the timer.

I beg for an update that removes that timer because this game looks beautiful, but the timer makes it unplayable.

IMPORTANT MUST READ. This games starts off a Run and gun like contra but then turns into a platformer like Megaman [the originals not X]. If you just want to run and kill enemies this is not the game for you.

Big thumbs down. This counts as deception in my view. Play for 10 hours only for the entire game genre of the game to change. Look at the details on the buy screen. NOWHERE does it say platformer. Look at the video it doesn't show you all the death traps/ spikes / and platforming. You know why? because they're trying to fool the audience. Don't be fooled. I played this deceptive piece of trash so you don't have to.

No matter how good a game might be deceit is a immediate thumbs down.Uninstalled the game. Will never play again. You know what? This is the second time I seen a game do this type of thing. Как для инди ок, но уж очень однообразно. А чем дальше в лес, тем нуднее и скучнее. Прокачка, например, сразу бесит: можно качать полоску здоровья и ставить на выбор два перка(улучшайзера). Только увеличение здоровья означает, что и урон будет больше. А смысл кача тогда?
Перки как правило имеют побочки, что опять же ставить их смысла большого нет. Нет, есть парочка полезных, но в море шлака они почти не заметны. Что бы улучшать оружие нужна фигова туча ресурсов с просто очешуительным кол-вом номенклатуры. Ну и получается, что по сути, все допмиссии это гриндилки по сбору ресурсов. А единственное интересное времяпрепровождение это битвы с четверть-Боссами, полу-Боссами и просто Боссами.

Ради чего гриндить? Ради цифр? Можно было сделать просто аркаду на 4-5 часов без гринда. Щас приведу по моему самый банальную идею, а имено контент 18+ он работает везде (три в ряд, визуальные новелы, кликеры и т.д.) и в хороших руках отлично работает и продается.
15 часов вам потребуется для прохождения и стоит оно того? лично для меня нет. И да недавно студия выпустила ремейк черепашек и сорвала куш.

This is NOT a run n' gun game. It's more of an objective-based action side scroller. You get multiple levels, and you have to complete a bunch of missions in each level, which means you'll be playing the same levels multiple times, but going after different objectives in each mission. These objectives include gathering materials, killing a specific number of enemies, boss fights, rescuing NPCs, etc. What sets this game apart from others of this genre is the pretty nice pixel art and animation, and the gun customization. You're constantly gathering materials to build weapon parts so you can create crazy wacky custom guns, as well as unique melee weapons.

It ain't no Metal Slug. But still pretty enjoyable.

Awful game design with unavoidable damage and the game is scared to short good game and becomes a boring repeating loop of similar missions. Dying to a boss will respawn you 5 minutes away from them and you take damage while traveling there. The game feels like it doesn't want you to play it because of this. Annoying crafting that doesn't use better quality materials in place of lesser quality materials meaning more wasting time. Bosses that run away, repeating all the problems with more traveling to the boss after getting killed. Enemies that make you pause and wait are not enjoyable to anyone fighting them over and over again.

The game is very polished and full of immaculate Paul Roberson's pixel art, which I'm a great fan of. But it's boring and repetitive to grind across the same levels again and again, completing the dull tasks, or harvesting parts, or both. (Or standing and waiting in the infirmary for your health bar to replenish). I see lots of other positive reviews, but if you want to have fun casually and not into grind, I just don't recommend it. (And that's pity, because the visuals, again, are absolutely eye candy)

I had mixed feelings about this game at first, but the more i played it the more i hate it, first of all the reload feature is my biggest complain, maybe because im comparing it to metal slug but reload with 2d platforming is never a good mix IMO, also why the items needs to be picked up with a button? most of the items im not even able to differentiate dropped items from actual level parts, items should be at least unique in way, maybe glowing or having a different texture or being highlighted, idk just do what literally every single game does, idc if you think i have a monkey brain and i can only see items that glow, but thats just bad game design

I am a bit conflicted about this game. At first, the game was enjoyable, but the more I played the less I wanted to continue, especially in the later ranks. There are certain things that the game does that do not make it as fun as it should be. I will be breaking it down. Just so it is known, I played the whole game in Single Player, even if you wanted to play online, there aren't people playing at all.

First off, this game is a Resource Gathering game with a Run and Gun coat of paint put on top of it. You see this game and you might think "Oh, it will be like Contra or Metal Slug!" In reality, this game is more like Monster Hunter meets Mega Man, but the boring parts of Monster Hunter and not much the fun parts. Instead of fighting monsters (or bosses), you are doing missions and sometimes the occasional Boss. The whole Purpose of the game is to gather Materials and resources to craft Crazy Weapons. That's the whole game. I will commend the Weapon crafting though. It is incredibly in-depth and there are thousands of crafting combinations with different parts coming from sources you might recognize and others that are quite funny. At the end of the day though, the guns all do the same thing, it's just up to you on how you want the bullet to be shot. To me, this is sort of where the problem lies.

You don't automatically pick up the material the bosses/enemies drop, you have to press the down button to pick it up. This might seem like a minor inconvenience but when you have to do this over 100 + times in 1 mission because every single enemy drops something (especially if you have the item that gives you material drop for every enemy kill), it slows down the gameplay flow A LOT. I don't understand how they didn't think of at least even adding something that allows you to pick it up automatically. There were so many cases where I was fighting enemies that were actively shooting me and my character decided to grab something that was in my vicinity when I pressed the Down button because I was trying to dodge an incoming bullet by crouching. I did run some levels by ignoring the material drops and the gameplay was improved ten-fold. It plays like a very good Run and Gun, but again that is IF you decide to ignore the drops, which you can't because it is an integral part of the gameplay since you need materials to craft better guns.

My other issue is the missions, especially the Boss Missions. Although entertaining since the bosses in the game have really nice designs and unique patterns from one another, the game still found a way to make it frustrating. If you die in a boss fight, you spawn at the nearest Medical Bay. Sometimes this Medbay can be on the other side of the map and you would have to travel all the way back to the Boss area, which means going through a bunch of enemies because enemies in this game do not despawn. So you can potentially take a ton of damage before getting to the boss, not only that but the bosses run away, so by the time you get to the boss area, it could have moved at the last second to another area. You also only have 3 lives total in each mission, so if you die before defeating the boss, you will have to restart the whole mission from the beginning and find the boss all over again because they do not spawn in the same area. Also, There is no way to just Leave a mission once you started it, all you can do is quit the game and that launches you back to the main menu... seriously? Not to mention too for some reason the missions sometimes have these big difficulty gaps, Especially later in the game.

It's not terrible though, When you craft a powerful gun, you get tons of satisfaction from using it in missions. The missions all take place on multiple different maps and they are completely open for you to explore so you are not restricted on where to go. (Although the drawback is that every map sort of looks the same and it can get repetitive since multiple missions take place on the same map as well as multiple missions are resource gathering or fetch quests). The Pixel Art and design of enemies and characters plus animations are all so very well made. The soundtrack is also pretty good and the story of the game is honestly not bad and entertaining! But that's as much as I can say about the good of this game. Everything else holds it back from it being better than what it is. If the game allowed you to run and gun more like I did when I decided to ignore the drops, the game would have a better pace and it would be more fun.

In conclusion, it feels like the Devs were trying to make a Monster Hunter game but in the style of a run-and-gun shooter, I applaud them for their effort but I believe it needs some more work to make it a more enjoyable experience. Do I recommend it? I mean, sure? From what it seems, to some people this game can be extremely fun, especially since you can make so many different types of guns. To me though, it was a "meh" experience gameplay-wise. I Enjoy Monster Hunter and have hundreds of hours poured into it but this game did not feel as good or fun to me. Even in Single Player, MH is tons of fun. This, not so much. Get it on sale, why not? Maybe it is more enjoyable with friends, but I feel like that would of not changed much for me.

Run around and complete a variety of missions. Collecting resources to upgrade your base, or save some POW to add them to your roster. There is a lot to do in Mercenary Kings. Split Screen for up to 4 players, although even with only two it splits the screen into 4 and uses the extra space for each players map. It works, but can make everything small. Good co-op game with friends, although the shared lives pool may make you rethink who you invite along on a mission. When the lives hit zero all players are immediately evacuated from the level. You do not share resources, those are per-account; even when playing split-screen. There are tons of missions, lots of unlockables, weapons customization galore, and a great variety of characters to choose from.

This game is kind of like a supposedly really delectable dish. You'd think all the right ingredients are there, sadly the final result just doesn't taste all that good and then whatever flavor was there, has been needlessly watered down to increase the volume.

There's guns, even more guns, shooting, platforming, RPG elements, beautiful stylish graphics... yet somehow the mix of all of those features doesn't generate the fun factor it should have. The game has tiny issues sprinkled allover the place, ranging from steering to balancing to multiple quality-of-life missing conveniences.

Movement feels stiff, unresponsive and worse of all, unreliable. It's also not possible to move sideways while aiming up, [b]unless[/b] in midair. Enemies are well animated, but most of them barely move around, they also lack numbers, attack patterns and a trace of intelligence. By themselves they don't pose much threat. You'll be taking most of the damage from bumping into those morons rather than from taking bullets to the face. The reloading mini-game is as essential as a bike for a fish. The mission timer is a desperate attempt at creating fast pace. The boss escaping mechanic is a frustrating wet fart in the face of the player. The material gathering and crafting mechanics seems fun at first, but quickly become an annoying, tedious grind, coupled with traveling through the same levels over and over again, with the same enemies camping in the same places. It just increases the creeping boredom bit by bit. While the graphics is stylish and well detailed, the environments are surprisingly non-interactive. Strange, because world objects are practically begging and screaming for possibility of destruction that never comes. This leaves a lingering aftertaste of dissatisfaction - why have all the guns in the world if one can't destroy a freakin' wooden box, or a lamp post? It's not like there's much else to shoot at...

Sound effects are there. I guess there's not much to complain about. The soundtrack however seems to me like the most lazy and uninspired piece of *khem* music I've heard in a game in a while. Most of the tracks feel generic AF. Some are mashups of motives ripped off of other nostalgia games, including Castlevania. One is a blatant cover of Electric Six' Rubber Rocket. Don't people get sued for that kind of сrap?

So is this game fun or what? Well... kind of. While fun at first, the fun factor gets diluted so much that not before long, it becomes something that you'd want to just finish, uninstall and forget. It seems to have all the needed parts to be great, but somehow it misses the mark by having the gameplay balanced around all the wrong ideas. It may sound strange for a game that gathered so much positive reviews, but if you take a look at achievements, you'll notice that less that 10% players have unlocked Baron Bashing, which occurs more or less in the middle of the game.

Sooo... is it worth buying? Definitely not for the full price tag. Even then, while the game's not bad, in my opinion there are better, way more fun games to play.

With 3-4 local players each player only gets a split 25% of the screen each which means its too small to be able to see anything properly on a laptop or desktop monitor. Probably ok if youre playing on a larger TV. Shame there isnt a one-screen-is-shared by all option.

Simple side-scroller with the perfect balance of difficulty and attainability of levels, plus rewards even if you replay levels. You gotta grind sometimes and you do super great sometimes. One of my favorites. Only disappointment is one achievement is only available to folks who backed the kickstarter, so I can't get them all.

I backed this on Kickstarter way back when because of course I would play an off brand Metal Slug. But when I played the beta, I was baffled by one choice: you have to manually reload your gun. It just completely ruins the pacing and clashed with the retro Metal Slug/Contra style thing they were going for. There was one gun upgrade that didn't require reloading, but it really subtracted from damage, and at the time, the upgrade system wasn't quite working right yet, so there wasn't a way to increase it. So I decided I'd just wait for the complete product.

Years later, I finally remembered this exists and that I hadn't played it since. I figured I'd give it a shot. First impression wasn't great, with you still having to reload, and having to do it every eight shots. And I don't know if I just don't remember it form the beta, but like they made a little timing minigame out of it to actually reload in a reasonable amount of time. I feel like the idea might have been to make it feel more like you were actively doing something, but taking the annoying thing you'd rather not be doing and adding more steps and making it take longer is kind of the opposite of what you should be doing, particularly in what otherwise seems to be designed to be a fast paced action platformer. And I decided to stick it out for a couple missions to see if I could unlock that no reload gun again. And while I did unlock more options, that wasn't one of them. And the big magazines you can buy lower your damage so much that they make your gun feel useless. And worst of all, that means you're not actually reloading less per number of enemies killed, you're just mashing the fire button more between those reloads, and of course it also makes those reloads take longer. At that point, I just uninstalled.

I don't think I've ever seen a game that otherwise seems pretty good ruined by one baffling mechanic like this. Like reloading was added to fps games to help the feel of realism they were already going for, and they paced the games around that. This game otherwise has no attempt at realism and is paced as if it were an arcade game. I would love a patch that just eliminated reloading entirely. Like I don't even care if they rework the gun economy so that it still makes sense. What's currently here is more broken than what that would be.

Sulla carta sembra un metal slug con un comparto gestionale tra personale, armi e power up. Come idea di base sembra molto carina, ma madonna benedetta dell'icoroneta (cit.), i comandi son di un stupidamente legnoso in gioco dove velocità e precisione sono necessari alla nostra sopravvivenza.
Per questa tipologia di giochi servono assolutamente comandi precisi e reattivi, altrimenti resta un mero gimmick per aumentare la difficoltà dove non ce n'è bisogno.

Top of the line game, a classic to enjoy side scroller, explorer looter/crafter shooter on PS4 and on PC

Co-op action couch and online fully supported

4 players and supported with local saves and great with steam remote play

I could gush about this game as its one of my top favorite games

it oozes fun and style and references to other great media/games like Metal Gear, Metal Slug, and more

this indie 2d pixel RPG shooter has you playing as Mercenaries (Mercenary Kings) to stop CLAW

venture into a variety of zones/stages on varying difficulties and missions and collect items from certain missions to unlock more weapons and parts that you can mix and match

along with unlocking knives and Armor/Health improvements

and bio-mods to modify your character internally to interact with the world and more.

メインウェポンである銃はパーツごとに作成し、ミッション前に組み立てる。一度作ってしまえば変更・取り外しは自在で性能を度外視するならとんでもないキメラ銃だって組める。他にも人体改造（いつでも着脱可能）や近接武器も選べる。重量の概念があり重いと移動速度とジャンプ力が低下して、トラップや敵が躱せなかったり取れないアイテムが出てきたりする。単に強い装備なら良いというものではないバランスは非常によくできていてビルドを考えるのが楽しく、新しい装備に手が出せたらさらにビルドを考える楽しみを得られる。

何を作るにしても必要なのはお金と素材。ミッション道中の敵やクリア報酬で素材が手に入るので、作りたいものに合わせて素材集めに奔走する事になる…マルチだと他の人が拾った素材も共有されるのでより集めやすいと思われる。ソロだと代り映えのしない周回は苦痛かも。人を選びそうな要素なので注意。セールでかなり安く買えるので、ハマれる人にはコスパの良い作品です。

A very simple game that blends monster hunter loot and missions mechanics with a 2D platform shooter. Despite its aesthetics it has nothing in common with metal slug. Although at first glance the gun customization system looks incredible its actually quite shallow as you very quickly realize how few actual options there are and progress through the game mostly just maintains this status quo of piercing and later tracking weapons superiority. A lot of the heavier weapons seem cool but really lack the impact needed to make up for their clunky weight and reloads and a lot of the elemental weapons are rarely worth using over the raw physical damage one can abuse using gunner bionic mods.

There is still enough customization variety in terms of loadouts for a fun experience. But no incentive to buy and try everything unless going for the achievements.

Definitely recommended if you can play with some friends. Otherwise this is going to get repetitive very quickly.
