A lovely little idle game that has a minor story to follow. I thoroughly enjoyed DLC Quest and this game, while different, did not disappoint either. It's sad to see nothing else was made after this as I really did enjoy the vision behind each game! Definitely give this a try if it sounds even remotely interesting to you.

An amusing little idle/incremental game, beatable in about 4 hours. Like its predecessor, DLC Quest, the conceit here is making fun of the questionable business practices of the video game industry. The art style is pretty basic here, significantly stripped down compared to DLC quest. The game settings are minimal: screen resolution and sound on/off, that's it. The "story" such that is works as a light parody of a much of modern tropes from blind boxes to streamers/influences to AI and regulatory capture by corporations.
It's possible to 100% this game in an evening. In spite of Loot Box Quest nominally being an idle game, it doesn't waste the player's time. I do recommend getting an auto clicker app (there's a free, open source one on GitHub.)
All of the achievements unfold in a linear order, but I must offer one huge caveat. There is an achievement for making 50 games called "Flood the Market." It's quite possible to advance the story without doing so. In my initial run, I advanced with only 25 games published. There's no way to return to the game publishing stage once one has moved on from it, so the achievement for publishing 50 becomes softlocked. I got every other achievement and had to start a new game just to get Flood the Market. That was a minor but very irritating detail.
With all of this said, Loot Box Quest is worth the full asking price of a dollar and an easy purchase on sale. It has the charm of a cheap and cheerful indie game, which is exactly what it is.

This satirical clicker/idle game is all about unethical business practices, but you won't get any of that from this dev. As many other reviews have mentioned this is a dirt cheap game that also reminds you when you've played for about 90 minutes, so you still have time to close it and get a refund if you want. For the equivalent of one U.S. dollar there was no way I would've refunded such an amusing, and uncomfortably spot on depiction of the game industry made by someone who comes off as genuinely nice and likeable.
As I developed strategies to cater microtransactions to toddlers I was amused and horrified at how accurately the slippery slope of human greed and corruption is represented in both this game and the real world industry, which really made me think. That's no easy task. I really loved it, because like the developer my secret shame is a love for these games and I've seen my fair share of absolute evil marketing in some of them.
Its a pretty good time, enjoyable and funny, by the time you realize what youre doing its far too late.

I do love these short and sweet little idle games. sure they only last for like 2-3 hours. but that's a better deal then that 20 dollars you spent on rolls to not even get your PNG waifu.

Feels very reminiscent of Succubox, but more polished and a bit less off-the-wall.

Making the entire industry collapse for a [b]MacGuffin[/b](literally) sounds right for a game named "loot box quest".
Upgrading highly unethical business practices and literal crimes against humanity makes you laugh first, then cry because some of it actually happen in real life, then ponder about what you [i]can[/i] do and what you [i]should[/i] do.
Anyway, 7/10 game.
Impressively written, with amazing music
The game starts off as you'd expect: click to earn money, then purchase upgrades to automate the process. But around halfway through, it shifts to a more passive experience, where you’re expected to leave the game idle to accumulate the large amounts of currencies it demands. At this point, I stopped enjoying the game, but I left it running idle anyway.
Pay attention to the information in the bottom left—that’s where the creativity of the game truly shines.

A short and funny little idle game for super cheap with a dev kind enough to alert you when you’re nearing the refund time limit, with a quick to achieve ending and 100% completion? Might not be for everyone, but I think it’s a great deal and intro to most idle games!
worth a dollar, its a great value
I bought this game in 2019 (on sale), played it for about an hour and a half, and since then it had been rotting away in my steam library. But, in my aspiration to get as many Steam achievements as possible, this is a game I had to finish.
I would say it takes roughly the 4.5 hours I played to finish the game entirely, but the majority of it was clicking and waiting (incremental game, duh). Would I highly recommend spending $0.99USD on this? Eh. Is it at least WORTH the $0.99USD? Yeah. Yeah, it is.
If you like clickers from time to time, but don't like the concept of spending hundreds of hours and/or dollars, to make it to the end, this is the game for you.
Short little and fun experience and perfect to play while watching some video.

Honestly a pretty fun time!! Short, but honestly a steal for the price!! Dialog and gameplay is really fun, and it never feels too easy or too hard. The only thing i think that I think it's missing is a dark mode, since the white background can be tough on the eyes late at night.

90 minutes in, the dev tells you you still have 30 minutes to refund if you don't like it. I'm keeping it. A single dude developed an incremental idler, sells it for a buck, and still supports and respects your money is a developer with integrity. As for an incremental idler, it scratches that itch and I don't regret giving this guy a buck.
A short idle game that truly is a spiritual successor to DLC quest.

Ich habe den Vollpreis von 99 Cent dafür gezahlt und die ist es sowas von wert.
Spielzeit:
Ich hätte 3,4h gebraucht um das Game durchzuzocken, wenn ich gleich 50 Mal das Spiel verkauft hätte und nicht nur 44 Mal. Dann hätte ich es nicht nochmal von neu anfangen müssen und hätte mir fast eine Stunde erspart.
Vergleich zum Vorgänger:
Es gibt keinen Vorgänger.
Errungenschaften:
Insgesamt gibt es 15 Errungenschaften welche man erreichen kann und alle bis auf eine bekommt man auch während des spielens. Die 50 verkauften Games müsst ihr vor einem gewissen Schritt machen, weil ihr sonst das Game neu anfangen müsst. Es gibt einen Guide dazu auf Steam in dem genau steht bis wann man diese Errungenschaft gemacht haben muss. Wenn man sich daran hält, dann hat man das Game in ca 3,4h auf 100% und es zählt sogar zu den perfekten Games. Also perfekt für Sammler.
Story:
Die Story ist so nebenbei und nicht wirklich relevant. Es geht darum, dass man der Menschheit auf alle möglichen Arten Lootboxen andrehen will. Man fängt klein an in einem Game bis zur eigenen Firma und darüber hinaus. Die Beschreibungen zu den einzelnen Upgrades waren schon echt witzig. Ich fand den Humor echt gut.
Gameplay:
Das ist wie bei Clickern simpel. Man klickt sich durch Upgrades und steigt so immer mehr auf. Es kommen auch im Laufe des Games neue Mechaniken dazu und das ist sehr erfrischend. Anfangs geht es nur um Geld und dann kommt noch streaming mit Followern und eine eigene Firma mit verkauften Games und so dazu. Danach kommt die nächsthöhere Ebene in der das Game mehr zu einem Idler wird. Klicken spielt da keine Rolle mehr. Es geht trotzdem alles sehr flott und man ist nach ein paar Stunden durch. Im Idealfall hat man dann das Game auf 100% sonst muss man noch etwas länger zocken und das Game neu anfangen um die letzte Errungenschaft zu bekommen.
Fazit:
Mir hat das Spiel sehr viel Spaß gemacht. Der Humor war auch toll und ließ mich schmunzeln. Die verschiedenen Mechaniken haben das simple Spielprinzip zusätzlich erfrischt und dadurch wurde es nie langweilig. Von mir bekommt es definitiv einen Daumen nach oben.
Ich wünsche euch noch viel Spaß beim Zocken und bis zur nächsten Rezension.

简单的挂机小游戏，只有一开始需要点点点，后来基本全程挂机，只需要调整参数。
全成就也很容易，有几个要在某项升级之前做完，其他的按流程走就能拿到。
Loot Box Quest isn't really a proper game, it's just a lazy 2D browser/Flash-tier "number incrementer" game where the object of the game is to increase the in-game currency by clicking, and sometimes buying things that increase the rate at which your currency/score goes up. It's an incredibly shallow game loop, to the point you might as well just run a program that does "i=i+1; print i" and watch the numbers go up automatically, and just watch it. You'd get the exact same outcome. If this sounds completely mindless, you're not wrong.
The entire crux of this crap incrementer is not even the gameplay, it's made in ironic satire of the prevalence of predatory and anti-consumer loot box gambling (or as EA calls it, "surprise mechanics"). However, polluting Steam with a game that's arguably worse than a loot box cancer infested MTX game isn't making gaming better. This won't stop loot boxes, it just makes Steam worse.
From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard.
While there are options to change the resolution for the game, all this does is scale up the simplistic 2D art assets used to make the game, which makes little or no difference to the graphics quality. Without any other substantial graphics tweaks, it's not possible for gamers to improve the lacklustre 2D visuals.
The game interface is mostly just text boxes/dialogs and features mostly static, barely animated 2D images, the kind of thing you expect to see in browser/HTML games from the 1990s. While that might be fine for the 1990s, gaming has evolved a lot since then, the ATI Rage became mainstream in 1996... it's 2023, and that kind of thing just won't fly anymore, it's just not visually up to scratch.
For gameplay purposes, because the user interface for this game is mostly just 2D static images... it might as well be a browser game. And we all know, Steam isn't here to compete with Chrome and Firefox. If the game can be done in a web browser, it's just not rich or compelling enough to appeal to serious gamers on PC.
These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game.
Loot Box Quest is relatively cheap at $1 USD, but it's not worth it. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, this is impossible to recommend.

A quick and short clicker game with an ending. If you are looking for something with re-playability, then look elsewhere. If you are looking for an easy game to get all the achievements on and maybe a couple of hours of playtime from then sure why not grab Loot Box Quest.

Cool little game from the guy who gave us DLC Quest some time ago. This time with a gameplay mixing both things from clicker and idle games to poke some fun and make us think about loot boxes and the current status of gaming. Sadly, as this game will show, it's far too easy to go from hero to villain.
You can expect around 8/9hs of gameplay out of this which, considering its price, is really good value for money, offering also a somewhat straightforward and easy 100% for them achievement wh*res (can't wait for Ben to do a game on that subject!).
Definitely recommended, more considering its price and the fact that the game itself lets you know when you're close to hitting the hour and half so you know you're about to lose your chance to refund it if you aren't enjoying it.

It's a fun little incremental with an amusing narrative. You can beat the whole game in about 3 hours, which is some pretty excellent value for the cost.
