Eh it's ok. It's no New Super Lucky's Tale but it passes for me... barely.

Looks nice, plays fine. Nothing special. If you can get it super cheap and just wanna play a sorta mind numbingly boring 3d platformer go for it. Very bland story. Hated the main character voice, sounds like he has a sinus infection. Music didn't do anything for me as it's what I call "crash bandicoot music", it sounds similar but very boring and forgettable. Could've been saved by achievements but a lot are collect/do all things for one achievement which is something that annoys me, so nope not doing all that. Beat the game in 5.5 hours.

This one is a miss for me. For a mascot/collectible platformer it really lacks the soul and the polish that so many others do in this particular genre. It is not a bad game per se, but it constantly makes me wish I was playing another game.

Если вы играли в классическую трилогию серии когда-то давно, то это тоже самое, но с большим количеством оговорок:

1) Продавать в 2022 один и тот же (в том числе в графическом плане) продукт, который вы выпускали еще в начале нулевых это откровенный скам
2) Длина игры, она очень короткая и с учетом выставляемого прайса (региональной цены для ру сегмента нет), даже за евро это довольно дорого
3) Отдельная претензия к играм, в которых чтобы выбить 100% нужно докупать DLC (буквально гиммик), но тут это реализовано очень плохо, потому что DLC представляет из себя буквально 4 багованных уровня без нового музыкального сопровождения, даже катсцены поленились сделать, вместо них комиксы на коленке

Итог: если и брать, то по ОЧЕНЬ большой скидке, а так ну 4/10

Wenn man es im Angebot kauft ist das Spiel vollkommen in Ordnung.
Aber definitiv keine 30€ Wert, dafür gibt es einfach zu viele Bugs.
Wenn man nicht vernünftig an den Wandbrettern klettert kann es schnell mal passieren, dass man in die Wand rein glitscht.
Die Story ist cool, kurz und knappes Spiel, recht simpel und einfach.

It's a fun platformer but I can't recommend this game, it's a buggy mess
Not to mention the fact it's downright annoying how there's no counter for chests found in single levels... so you'll never know which chests you missed

Ended up almost 100%ing the game but seeing that 60/64 chest in the overview of all collectibles kinda made me feel dead inside, and I will NEVER know if i got all crystals because the game does not tell you the max amount? But the chests do??????????

There's nothing else to say aside from the fact that the game is extra safe and yet they couldn't manage to make it functionable

Se você tem carinho por si mesmo, por favor, não jogue essa merda.
Um dos jogos que tenta copiar Crash e falha em não compensar esse fato, como o enredo ter sido feito por alguém que tenta fazer algo engraçadinho(e falha miseravelmente). A dublagem deveria ser igual a de Undertale/Deltarune, de tão ruim que é, eu estou tentando jogar e ver o diálogo que parece mais uma tortura, ou melhor dizendo, um purgatório feito pra pior pessoa de todas(ótimo jeito de tortura).
Comprei esse jogo por conta de ter perdido a maldita conta da epic, agora eu fico triste por não poder recuperar(sadomasoquismo).
Se você quiser só merter o fds, jogue sabendo que esse jogo vai ser o pior jogo da sua vida.

I don’t know much about the older Kao games, but this one is very pleasant. The controls are very responsive, the performance is good enough (even on a work laptop), and the length of the game — around 11 hours for 100% completion — is almost spot on. There’s some laziness in a few bonus levels, and some collectibles are useless (e.g., the diamonds), but overall it’s a win for Kao and its developers.

I don't even remember when I got this one, but I tried playing it twice now and two times over I give up and delete it. The fighting feels like a beat em up a le the oughts and tens, not as egregious as the spyro and crash reboots but when I saw collectathon I didn't expect auto lockon, a combo meter, and multiple hits for every kind of enemy seen up to and through the village.

I never played the OG kao, but I immediately feel like the voices are weird choices. Kao sounds like an antsy american boy most of the time, his mother sounds like the team took two different takes and used the clips interchangably, and Coach speaks with a stilted manner that feels uncomfortable to listen to. Mascot platformers kind of exist to get away with riffing on culture and accent, the painfully milktoast delivery of everything I heard in the hour and a half I tried to like this was the last stop for me.

What brought me joy consistently was the weird design choices.
NPCs have accurate collision instead of boxes - so of course I stood on the tail of one person minding their own business in the village and enjoyed being wagged around for a few minutes as I laughed at the visuals.
Collecting Runes doesn't stop you in place for the animation, but the camera clearly expects you to not be far from the item's location. So of course I rolled, jumped, and anything else to break that while getting my feet wet in the village.
Some objects can be interacted with but not broken, like bookshelves and signs. Shelves were especially amusing as hitting such objects makes them warp and wiggle, but the shelf's content would not move. Again, silly visuals. Small joys.
Breaking the firefly jars in the village level was amusing. I have no reason for this, only if you make it breakable I will break it.
Small interactibility points like this bring me some joy, but not enough to make me survive the onboarding of this game.

Cute & charming lil 3D Platformer Game that really brings me back to the early 2000's and Xbox 360 era of Gaming when Games like this were more common and times were simpler, We need more Games like this in today's day and age.

Gra dość krótka z DLC skończyłem wszystko w ~20h Fabuła nie zachwyca ale w takich grach nie spodziewam się jakiejś bardzo ciekawej fabuły. Widać że gra jest bardziej przewidziana dla dzieci niestety nie poczułem ducha klasyka. Niestety sterowanie potrafi być bardzo oporne o Kao często ześlizguje się z krawędzi albo nie łapie się platform. Grafika dobrze wygląda bugów żadnych nie udało mi się spotkać.

Its an alright platformer. The levels are nice and long, movement feels snappy and the game hs pretty visuals just dont mind the stilted cutscene animations and awkward dialogue (which, to give credit the voice actors are not native english speakers so they did well despite the difficulty)

Довольно таки приятно было играть в Kao the Kangaroo!
Разнообразие в игре хоть отбавляй, его крайне много. Те же разновидности монстров и особенно локаций. Жаль, что здесь есть только малое количество приемов, но это не мешает наслаждаться игрой.
Сюжет в игре интересный! Может, и не такой захватывающий, зато приятный.
Советую купить кенгуру и насладиться по полной этой замечательной игрой!

First thing I noticed: extremely disappointed by the lack of Australian accents, idgaf about the poor writing, but without aussie voices it feels extra cheap and out of place considering the theme. the gameplay is okay from what I played, didn't feel polished at all though, might be worth it if you buy it on sale and really enjoy PS1 platformers and have all the time in the world. 4ª entrega de esta saga de juegos del famoso canguro Kao, donde nos muestra un lado desconocido del personal: su familia, mientras que nos adentramos en el misterio de las islas de la eternidad, de donde provienen los guantes que le ayudaran durante toda la aventura.

Juego sencillo, adaptado a los tiempos actuales, con gráficos aceptables, una jugabilidad mejorada y una historia entretenida. Me lo he pasado muy bien con el juego. OJO: el juego no esta exento de bugs pero son poquitos.

From franchise that's known for games that are decent, but nothing special, comes a reboot that's decent but nothing special.

I could pretty much end it right here. It's an okay platformer clearly influenced by Spyro and Crash - you have an overworld (there are four) from which you access levels and collect coins, diamonds and shards, which are necessary to access other levels. You can also find heart pieces, for which you can get an additional heart if you collect four of them. It uses lives system, which, normally, wouldn't be ideal, but by the end i had so many hearts and lives that i barely noticed it. It's very simple, but that's not necessarily bad and for the most part the game is fun.

However, the story aspect is where i had some problems. Kao is in search for his sister with help of his master and magical gloves - It's nothing to write home about, but that's not the issue - it's the dialogue and voice acting. I'll start with the latter - It's very clear that they didn't have too much money to spend, as is evidenced by the polish theater kid they chose to voice Kao. Not only him, every character has a noticable polish/slavic accent and quality wise it's a mixed bag - some of them are okay, but others (including Kao VA) sound like devs picked them up from the nearest Zabka (or whatever other supermarket they have in Poland).

The dialogue can be quite cringeworthy at times with plenty of pop culture references masquerading as jokes - I mean, this is a kids game, right? I don't think many kids nowadays have seen 80's classic They Live or listen to Simon and Garfunkel.

That's really my only major gripe with this reboot. I don't think it's the best thing ever, but it's enjoyable. I only wish it was written better and that they hired voice actor, who, at least, sounds like he understands the language.

this game feels really cheap. there is such a lack of polish combined with very bare bones game mechanics and underdeveloped story/characters that seeing this game come from an experienced dev team is really disappointing and the project as a whole comes off as lazy. the game functions and its a quick, simple platformer. that is really all the positives i can say about it. levels, characters, bosses, story are all unremarkable. the game is incredibly short which i wouldn't say is a problem normally for a game like this but because there is nothing to this game, it raises the question of what was even the point. clipping issues persist. UI and hud overlapping making it difficult to enter or exit certain levels. when you die your level timer restarts so completion times for levels are usually wrong (as much as i would like to brag about beating a level in 6 seconds), voice acting(while not the worst i've ever heard) leaves a lot to be desired. when triggering some cut scenes there's a good 2 or 3 seconds where you see character models move around before the screen can fade out and load the cut scene, no increase in challenge or difficulty as you progress (even for a kids game its laughable). also if you have played other games made in unreal engine like squirrel with a gun, this game has a "sheen" to it that looks just like other titles made in unreal engine just in how character and environment models move, load in and look. if the dev team put more time into it they could of hid this to make them look more organic and original instead of coming off as stock, generic and feeling like your playing the game still in the unreal dev kit. i didnt have a lot of expectations for this game but i usually don`t come across games that feel so lazy in its production especially when its trying to resurrect an IP that its quite shocking that this is the end product.

For a first full playthrough on the Deck, this turned out to be a really pleasant experience. The difficulty stays on the relaxed side throughout, with enemies and bosses that are easy to read and handle, making it a great fit for handheld sessions. The platforming follows the same philosophy: straightforward, forgiving, and rarely frustrating.

Visually, the game has a lot of charm. The stylized art direction works well, and the environments feel lively and colorful without being overwhelming. Each area has its own personality, and the vibrant palette gives the whole adventure a lighthearted, almost cozy tone.

The story is simple and very linear, but that works in its favor. It doesn’t try to overcomplicate things, instead delivering a classic adventure that feels familiar and charming. It genuinely brought me back to my childhood days, reminding me of cartoonish shows and animated movies where everything felt playful, colorful, and full of character.

Performance-wise, the game ran smoothly on the Deck from start to finish. I encountered a few minor bugs that required restarting a level, but they were rare and never serious enough to break immersion or diminish the fun. Overall, it was a comfortable and enjoyable game to play on a portable device, and finishing it on the Deck felt both satisfying and fitting for the kind of experience it offers.

W lodowej lokacji mam błąd uniemożliwiający przejście gry. W pewnym momencie, w losowych chwilach, na stałe tracę możliwość wykonywania stompa, aby zamrozić wodę. Podczas skoku postać ignoruje przycisk toczenia, ale po wylądowaniu można się toczyć. Gdy pojawi się blokada stompa, występuje ona całkowicie i nie można przejść gry.

I have a slight problem with Kao, because while playing it, I noticed flaws at every turn, but overall, it wasn't bad and it was fun to play. The game is straightforward; despite the power of the gloves, it's a platformer like many others, but compared to the entire series, it still shines. I think it's safe to call it the best incarnation of the Kao series game to date. I'd put it somewhere alongside, Ty The Tasmanian Tiger, meaning it's solid, there are some highlights, but something's missing, and there's no "let's play again" element. Fans of the genre can easily give it a try.

As someone who played the old Kao the Kangaroo games back in the day, I was so excited when I found out there was a brand new one coming out. But - that's where the excitement ends.

I'm not saying this is a bad game, but its not a good game either. Its meh.
The biggest issue I've had is the voice acting, especially Kao. It is terrible, to put it lightly. The tone doesn't fit his character or persona at all. Maybe the voice actor's first language isn't English, and that's ok, but the producers/directors really should have checked to make sure the writing made sense. During some of the cutscenes, some of the sentences didn't make sense and I had to figure out what was actually being said.

The gameplay is pretty lacklustre. Pretty much button mashing through each level with no actual enjoyment. The enemy varieties were ok, but again were pretty boring. The boss battles were ok, I did die a couple of times though.

I really liked the level design, I felt there were pretty well thought out and each environment brought its own charm to the stages.

I'm finding it hard to recommend this game. I do but I don't. Don't let my review put it off, I just wouldn't buy this at full price.

No es un voto negativo como tal, más bien es un voto regular. En cuestión de gráficos es una delicia visual, pero hasta ahí. La banda sonora es bastante limitada, el combate consiste en darle siempre al mismo botón, sin variedad alguna más que un ataque cargado que acaba volviéndose tedioso. Hay niveles muy trabajados, otros parecen ser hechos con prisas.

A mitad de camino, el juego se vuelve demasiado repetitivo y aburrido. Es cierto que el DLC le da un poco de chispa y tiene algunos momentos plataformeros bastante destacables, pero apenas son 4 niveles extras con dos tipos de dificultad y una batalla final bastante sosa.

No es un mal juego per se, pero hay plataformeros igual de coloridos y mucho más entretenidos y divertidos que Kao. No hablemos de las voces, por favor...

Let me just be honest with you here: Kao the Kangaroo 2022 is not a good game. Over three years have passed since the release date and somehow, this game still feels like it needs more time in the oven as there are numerous glaring issues present in it. And this is something that I honestly cannot understand as the developers of this game are veterans with over 20 years of history under their belt.
I have only spent an hour with this game, and my experience with it was so boring that I decided against playing any further than I already had. Let me tell you waht I witnessed in the 61 minutes I spent with it:

- The story does not make sense at all. The game just throws you inside its world without explaining anything to you (even the controls!) or having you connect with the characters through proper introductions. Given this game is considered a new game in the franchise, it probably requires you to play the previous games beforehand and if so, I am not a fan of this decision. A lot of people are not going to play all of the past games of a franchise before playing the new one, and not making things understandable for the new crowd is counterproductive.

- Unfortunately, the story is not actually well-written either. The story's narration and its transitions feel very odd, as if the developers had no clue on how to tell a proper story and still did it anyway. I know this can be classified as a kids' game but c'mon, you need to at least make it presentable.

- The voice acting on display here is... very bad. Some of the worst I've ever heard in a modern game, as a matter of fact. The voice actors sound like they are not very fluent in the English language and there was no voice director to approve their performances, making the game feel like one of those localized Japanese games of the PS2 and Dreamcast era.

- I also have to mention Kao's voice acting in particular, as it's most likely the worst of the bunch and is more noticeable due to him being the main character. Kao's voice simply does not fit him at all and the former point about the lack of a proper voice direction just turns him into an unlikeable protagonist that you just want to shut up as fast as possible.

- Some parts of the game bug out at framerates over 60, requiring the player to lower it in order to let them progress.

- The camera in closed off areas (like houses) is honestly awful and it seems like the camera system was not optimized for them.

- Upon destroying an item or killing an enemy, their models just despawn after laying on the ground for a while. They don't have any audiovisual effects to make their disappearance less jarring and their whole model just vanishes in an instant.

- Many of the NPCs do not have proper animations so they just snap into a different pose as you approach or get away from them. For example, the character will start moving their hands in the air when you are near them, only to immediately snap to a idle standing pose the moment you move away from them.

- Sometimes a bunch of animations will not play out as they should. Like, you punch a vase, just to see it lying unharmed on the ground despite money popping out of it.

- Sometimes sound effects just simply not play at all. For example, you drop a bag of explosives just to hear them going off with no sound.

- The level completion screen does not have any music dedicated to it which really makes level completion feel hollow to a degree.

- The game's configuration options are pretty limited, preventing you from rebinding controller keys or having complete control over the graphical settings (the game uses presets only).

As you can see, this game has a lot of issues, many of which stemming from a lack of polish. And yes, I did verify the installation to make sure these issues are not happening because of a corrupted download. You have all of these being present in a modern game that had multiple DLC levels added to it post-launch.
And all of this is without mentioning how bland the gameplay is. The devs claim that Kao 2022 is "Inspired by the golden age of 3D Platformers" and it certainly feels like that, but it also looks like they have forgotten that the genre has evolved through time. Kao 2022 is a modern 3D platformer, but basically brings nothing unique and/or interesting to the table in the gameplay department and will just feel like those old platformer games that you had played a long time ago. And yes, this is a bad thing because we are not dealing with an old game here; This is a reimagining of the franchise, that is powered by modern technologies that give way more freedom to the devs when it comes to implementing unique features in their game.

Honestly, you're better off skipping this game. Sure, the graphics and character designs look lovely and the PC optimization is very well done, but I really cannot recommend a game based on those merits alone. There's no way for me to ignore Kao 2022 playing it safe and not going out of its comfort zone in terms of its gameplay, because it's neither a re-release nor a remake of an older game. It's brand-new, modern game in the franchise that doesn't try to innovate or to thoroughly polish whatever it already has and therefore, cannot be a good option for fans of 3D platformers.

Nowy Kangurek Kao wygląda spoko ale działa jak gra sprzed 20 lat XD. Toporne sterowanie, upierdliwe błędy, nijaka i nieciekawa fabuła.
Osobiście nieco zawiodłem się na tej odsłonie. Widać że twórcy brali to co najlepsze z innych tego typu gier lecz nie do końca wykonali to dobrze.

Całosć wygląda tak jakby w połowie gry skończył się budżet. Pierwsze dwa huby poziomów są o wiele lepiej zrobione niż dwa kolejne które są schematyczne. (wyspa na środku i odgałęzienia prowadzące do poziomów, nie wygląda to źle lecz nie jest zrobione w ciekawy sposób)

Co do samych poziomów to są one zrobione poprawnie a niektóre nawet bardzo dobrze. Jedyny problem to ich długość. Nie raz łapałem się na myśleniu o tym kiedy poziom w końcu się skończy. Bossowie to też raczej nic ciekawego, za parę dni zapomnę o nich.

DLC
I tu muszę powiedzieć że pozytywnie się zaskoczyłem. Dodatek "Bend the Rooles" wprowadza 5 nowych poziomów które bardzo przypominają styl tych w Crash 4. Zmiana widoku kamery, momenty na czas. Gdyby podmienić Kao na Crasha to by nie było widać różnicy.
Końcowy boss również był o wiele bardziej ciekawie zrobiony niż jakikolwiek z podstawki. Dodatek polecam w 100%

Polecam Kao tylko w przypadku gdy ograliście już takiego Crasha, Astrobota itd..lub jak jesteście fanami tej serii.

Końcową decyzję pozostawiam Tobie...

A very solid 6/10 game. Has its ups and downs, a meh story and lacks polish, but it's pretty fun.

This game doesn't have much story. It has promise. The protagonist's sister goes after their missing dad, and then she goes missing too. This leaves our kao alone to find his missing family members, with his dad's magical (cursed) boxing gloves. This is great. I wish the story delivered this. The writing falls pretty flat, none of the characters are developed, and there's some pretty terrible voice acting in this. So if you play this it certainly won't be for the story. It'll be for the gameplay.

The gameplay is simple and good. Collect gold coins and gems and letters that spell Kao's name. There's platforming, easy combat, and light puzzle mechanics in the form of gloves that attune with three element types. None of it is hard but it is enjoyable. This is where the game lacks polish though. At times I found myself clipping through walls or floors.

This best parts of this game reminds me of spyro and crash. Interesting level design and mechanics that are genuinely fun to play through, eventually. The first hub world, the island, is a slog to get through. But it gets more interesting after that, game play wise, with better level concepts.

The real down side here is that collecting coins and gems never feels worthwhile. Coins are everywhere, all the time, and you use them for costumes, heart pieces, and extra lived. I don't think the gems do anything at all. More often than not I found it tedious to even see all the visual clutter of the gold coins everywhere.

So, this is an okay but still fun game, and I think an 8-12 year old child could enjoy this easily, but it is boring at times if you're and adult or seasoned gamer. The DLC, "Oh well" is a fair bit harder, but even that isn't that difficult. Worth a playthrough when the game is on sale. I'd pay at most $10 - $15 for this game.

Before we begin, I wanted to let you know that I’m going to cut the “Presentation,” “Performance,” and “Story” sections as short as possible because I’m going to be mainly focusing on the “Gameplay.” I also wanted to say that even though this review says, “Not Recommended,” that does NOT mean you should not play this game. If you like this game, then I encourage you to keep playing and come up with your own thoughts and opinions. Anyway, let’s get started.

Presentation

Pros: The character designs are charming, even though I still love Kao’s “Kao 1” design more. The environments really remind me of the “Toys for Bob” art style that you see in the “Spyro Reignited Trilogy” or “Crash 4: It’s About Time.” Hoppaloo Island’s theme music was my favorite OST. You get different costumes by completing levels and hats for completing levels and find the letters of Kao’s name (I mostly stuck with the “Kao 2” design for the majority of my playthrough). There is enemy variety based on different worlds.

Cons: The voice acting/dialogue choices are a mixed bag. The animations during gameplay look fine, but during the cutscenes, the animations look stiff. The audio-mixing is bugged in some places (sometimes music would not play in some places). The audio cue for when the sheep projectiles are about to be fired only plays when the sheep is loaded inside the cannon but not when the cannon is firing. I noticed some instances of pop-in but mostly with rocks or pebbles you see on the ground. Areas like the water and lavafalls look off, almost like there were different models.

Presentation: 6/10

Gameplay

Once you start the game, you will first experience the game’s combat. I know I’m going to sound like a broken record, but I hate it when developers implement combat in platformers. The only games with combat that I actually like are “Rayman 2,” “Wind Waker,” “Kingdom Hearts II,” "Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart,” and “Hi-Fi Rush” for example. But this game’s combat just felt unengaging and button-mashy. However, there are some aspects of the combat that I did like. If you’re a distance away from an enemy, you have a dash punch which can close the distance between you and them. So luckily, the combat is somewhat improved from “Round 2” and “Kao 3.” You can also find boomerangs in different levels; however, there are in totems instead of you carrying a limited amount of them. You also have a meter at the bottom of your hearts. Once the meter is full, you can press the north button on the gamepad to perform a finishing move that attacks any enemy that surrounds you. However, you can enhance your finisher with the different elemental orbs you will find throughout the game, fire, ice, and wind. The normal finisher can daze enemies, fire can burn enemies, and ice can freeze enemies in a block of ice. I’m not sure what wind does because when I was playing, I was fighting a lot of enemies in the “Eternal World” and basically killed the enemies with the wind element. The elements can also affect how your boomerangs work to help you get past obstacles. Since we’re talking about the elements, let’s talk about what they do. Fire can burn wood and spider webs and also melt the ice, ice can freeze water, and wind can pull objects or remove platforms causing enemies to fall. However, I struggle to even call the wind element “wind” because to me it crackles like lightning and pulls objects like a magnet. They also brought the roll back from “Round 2” and “Kao 3,” except it’s more reliable and doesn’t halt your movement after a few seconds. However, once you get into the “Frozen Mountains,” the patches of ice you skate on affects the way your roll works. If you try to roll, it halts for a few seconds and then boosts you in the direction you are going. I’m mixed on this but it’s fine.

I would also like to talk about the health system. I am happy to say that I like that the developers have used hearts instead of a health meter this time. I have nothing against health bars in games. In fact, “Sly’s 2, 3, and 4” “Ratchet & Clank,” and “Rayman’s 2 and 3” have health bars. However, I find hearts or other variations to be more visually interesting, and I think they help communicate how much health the player has better. You can also increase the amount of hearts you have by finding heart pieces in the levels or buying them in the shops of the hub worlds. To be honest, it kind of reminds me of the Zelda series. The lives system is back but I found this to be a bit unnecessary. I say this because the game is extremely forgiving with lives, and I had so many hearts at the end of my playthrough that I had no issues with dying a lot. I only died like a couple of times because I only had three hearts at the beginning. If I died, I felt like those mistakes were my fault. Anyway, you can also find dark crystals which you can punch allowing them to reveal hidden platforms or objects. There is even one instance where you carry dark crystals, activate them manually, and leave them on a platform to grab collectibles. Before I forget, the tail attack is back but this time you can use it to parry projectiles back at enemies.

Since “Kao 2022” has a dark theme or “Eternal Worlds,” the game introduces Eternal Wells, both from the main game and DLC. These wells consist of mostly combat arenas (much like the combat areas when you hit a crystal) or platforming challenges. These are optional, and if you choose to do them, you get ducats and diamonds as rewards. Speaking of which, ducats make a return from “Round 2,” but you also have scrolls, diamonds, and the letters of Kao’s name to collect. However, the runes, which are used to open areas that lead to levels, serve as the main collectible. There are 50 runes in the main game, but you only need to collect 48, similar to SM64 or Banjo. The scrolls seem to unlock information in the “Kaopedia” where you could look at information about the characters, enemies, etc. However, I didn’t have the time to view everything in the “Kaopedia.” As for the diamonds, I could hardly find any information about what they are even for. As far as I know, I couldn’t find any use for them whatsoever.

So, why do I not like the gameplay despite it improving on some aspects from its predecessors? Well, I found this game to be extremely boring. Even without combat encounters, I was just running around doing nothing except collecting things and exploring environments. I’m not asking for much, but I wished to be more engaged while playing. Anyway, the only other things I can say are when I get chased by sentient bombs, getting bombed in the face while smashing crates and barrels, or when the physics are sometimes out of whack.

The performance was stable throughout my playthrough, and the loading times were tolerable.

Story

I was mixed on how this story was written. It tries to be dark, but at the same time, it tries to insert meta/pop culture humor. I’m not against pop culture references, but there is a right way and a wrong way of doing it. Sure, the “Shrek” franchise poked fun at fairy tales and Disney, but it did pop culture references really well. Also, “Rayman 2” did have a dark premise, but it still kept the whimsical humor from “Rayman 1.” Anyway, the story is fine for what it is.

Final Verdict

I really wanted to come out of the “Kao” series saying that I liked most of the games. However, I found myself liking “Round 2” more while finding myself mixed with the other games in the series. I saw from an anonymous YouTube comment that Tate Multimedia became a publisher and abandoned this game. I don’t know if it’s true or not, but if it is, I don’t know if I could trust Tate anymore. However, despite my criticisms, I strongly urge you NOT to harass anyone and keep playing this game if you like it. Do NOT let this review stop you from playing it.

Średniak, taka słabsza wersja Spyro jeżeli chodzi o rozgrywkę - 6/10
Najbardziej podobała mi się grafika, gdzie niektórzy na to narzekają, ale to jest gra dla dzieci (chociaż jest tu kilka cięższych momentów).
Sama walka ok, chociaż można było jakoś bardziej wpleść w nią elementy żywiołów. Muzycznie także dosyć średnio. Plus, że można było wracać do map i przyfarmić monety, aby dokupić dodatkowe życia.
Mapy - także na plus, nie licząc kilku irytujących momentów, to przyjemnie się zwiedziało.

Natomiast bardzo słaby dubbing głównego bohatera - brzmi jak pierwszy lepszy youtuber i nawet to się spina bo wypowiada on podczas rozgrywki słowa typu influncer, folowersi czy hashtag, ale to pokazuje target graczy. Jeżeli chodzi o znajdźki, to do teraz nie wiem do czego były niebieskie kryształy, chyba tylko, aby wydłużyć rozgrywkę podczas ich poszukiwań.
Ostatni boss to porażka - 0 wyzwania, trudniejsze były niektóre elementy w grze niż sama walka z nim.
Momentami irytująca kamera, szczególnie podczas walki w mniejszych pomieszczeniach - widziałem tylko ścianę i biegałem na ślepo. W Spyro było coś takiego jak aktywna kamera, tutaj mi tego zabrakło.
Rozciąganie się szyi Kao to wizualna tragedia podczas wiszących elementów.
Woda - jak mnie ona irytowała, do jednej można wejść, w drugiej się topisz.

Kao the Kangaroo is a 3D adventure game with a great premise, but in the end, it fails in many aspects, not making it a bad game, but also far from being a good or great game.
You are KAO and, to summarize the story, you go in search of your sister and father and along the way you find a pair of talking gloves?!?! that choose you for some reason... The game isn't long, I got 100% of the achievements in less than 20 hours of gameplay (base game + DLC). The game has clunky movements, the character doesn't seem to flow properly and honestly, it's a game just for getting achievements, without many other motivations. The game is only a single-player campaign, and the subtitles are available in several languages, including Brazilian Portuguese, which is a positive point.

Kao, The Kangaroo ist ein kurzweiliges 3D Jump n Run Abenteuer mit einer netten kleinen Geschichte und interessanten Charakteren.
Handlung : Kao, ein Känguru, welches auf den Hoppalo Inseln mit seiner Mutter lebt entschließt sich eines Tages dazu nach dem Verschwinden seiner Schwester Kaia (welche nach dem vermissten Vater suchte) zu suchen. Dabei wird er von dem Kampfkunstmeister Walt, dem schusseligen Mechaniker Gadget und den magischen Handschuhen begleitet...und kämpft sich fortan durch Welten, die zur Profitoptimierung verändert wurden.

Spielmechanik : Die Welten sind recht linear, man kann sich also nicht allzu sehr verlaufen...muss aber für Sammelobjekte auch gerne mal ein wenig Abseits des Pfades schauen. Das Steuerungssystem ist sehr rudimentär und besteht aus einem Schlag (der auch bei aufgeladenem Kombo Meter gerne einen Powerpunch auslösen lässt), einem Doppelsprung und einer Ausweichrolle. In jeder der 4 Hub-Welten gibt es einen Boss den es zu besiegen gilt. für diese müsst ihr genug Runen innerhalb der Welten sammeln (keine Sorge, diese sind nicht versteckt und werden während des normalen Durchspielens kein Problem darstellen). Andere Sammelobjekte sind die Buchstaben "KAO" (welche ein wenig an die Buchstaben aus Donkey Kong erinnern, Schriftrollen, welche Infos zur jeweiligen Welt preisgeben und Kristallen, die keinen Wert haben außer um die 100% zu erlangen. Man kann auch Dukaten sammeln, welche im Geschäft für Extra Leben, Kleidung oder Herz Container ausgegeben werden können. In einigen Welten sind auch Herzcontainer und Ewige Brunnen versteckt (also kleine Herausforderungspassagen).

Fazit, mir hat es gefallen. Ich muss gestehen, dass es (außer man ist eingefleischter Jump n Run Fan und braucht unbedingt was zu zocken) den Preis nicht wert ist. In einem Sale kann man mal zugreifen und eine wirklich gute Zeit haben, wenn man die Ansprüche nicht allzu hoch schraubt.

Zum DLC "Bend the Rooles" eine kleine Anmerkung, für dieses gibt es keine englische Synchronisation (wodurch der Witz des Hauptspiels verloren geht), aber man bekommt einigermaßen herausfordernde Level im Gegensatz zu dem was im Hauptspiel geboten wird.

P.S. Das Flugzeug von Gadget heißt "Schrotta", was nun ja witzig ist

Я игрой почти не пользовался, но она пользовалась мной.
Честно, я провёл в меню больше времени, чем разработчики — в создании сюжета.

В итоге могу сказать одно:
Игра норм, но как таймер рабочего дня — вообще шедевр. 235 часов ни капли геймплея, но зато чувство, будто я прошёл её четыре раза и написал диплом.

The Original Kao the Kangaroo was the first game i've ever seen played (my sister didn't allow me to play on her pc) and when i eventually got annoying enough to play it, i loved the odd "feel" that it gave me, the controls, the animations, the little quirks it had... it was fun, especially to someone as young as i was.

the developers clearly put their heart and soul into this project, i can see the research of the original source that went into this game, and already from the intro, i could feel that very same odd feeling that i thought i had forgotten.
The models are very cool, clearly heavily inspired by the 'Nsane trilogy and Reignited Trilogy style, but with a change in direction sufficient to make his own small statement, they're probably the most curated thing in the entirety of the game.
the level desing is fun, with a lot of secret and well hidden areas, the reward given for finding such areas seem to be perfectly proportional to how well hidden it was, i had a wonderful experience in exploring, perhaps also due to the fact that the levels in themselves are quite beautiful.
the sound design is optimal, it takes the old iconic sounds from the original game and gives them a slight modern kick, almost a remaster.
the story is completely reimagined, although i would've liked to see it used once again, i can understand that the old game's would be extremely old fashioned for today's standards. Also i can imagine that the developers wanted to make it a bit more marketable to people younger than the 30 years necessary to even remember the old game. still i like it, it's a bit "bandicootish" if it makes sense, but it's nice, nothing too complex.

it's kinda sad to then notice how this game could've been so much more.
it would just need more time in the oven, or maybe more experience from the developers, as the recipe in my opinion would've worked wonders.
the cutscenes would need to be fixed so that the voice acting seems less weird than it already is. In particular the mouth movements need to be synced and some characters have this weird breathing animation where they grow and shrink at every breath.
the object physics would need to be studied a bit more, as it's dumb that if i hit a vase, the one behind it doesn't break, but flies off directly into the lava below, losing me like 5-10 coins every time
the player physics and camera need to be fixed, as in a 3d platform i can't wonder whether i will get the jump at every single platform that's not 5 times my character.
i can't tell if some enemies don't have a death animation, or if they're just bugged out, as enemies in this game generally are.
although the levels are beautiful and full of well hidden areas, there are some very few areas that confuse me to no end, places that are supposed to be a challenge that are so easy to cheese and overcome that i thought that i was doing something wrong.
the level maps are also sometimes confusing, i had the feeling of being lost without any idea of where i was going, a lot of times i thought i was exploring a secondary path when instead i was on the main one and viceversa.
finally, a weird thing with the tutorials provided at the start of the game, is that they seem to hang in this weird place where the most obvious things are explained, but many non-obvious consequences of those are left to the player to figure out, by the tutorials i can't tell if this game is supposed to be for the affectionados of the genre or for a more casual gamer.

the gameplay suffers a bit from these issues, and it's a real shame because the things that surround it are lovingly curated.
i will certainly follow the career of whoever did the 3d models and concept arts, but i also hope that they go on to project with better results.

[H1]KAO THE KANGAROO (2022) – Un reboot riuscito a metà[/H1]

Quando si parla della serie Kao, ammetto di partire con un certo pregiudizio. Non è mai stata una saga che ha lasciato un segno particolare nel panorama dei platform, e anzi, per me ha sempre sofferto di una chiara identità derivativa. Fin dagli esordi sembrava più una raccolta di idee prese dai grandi del genere (come Crash Bandicoot, Rayman, Jak & Daxter) che un vero tentativo di proporre una propria visione originale. A parte il secondo capitolo, che ricordo con un certo affetto e che ho trovato perlomeno piacevole, il resto della trilogia mi è sempre sembrato dimenticabile e poco incisivo. Con queste premesse mi sono avvicinato al reboot del 2022 con aspettative molto basse e una certa freddezza.

Ed è proprio per questo che la mia esperienza mi ha sorpreso. Nonostante la mia iniziale sfiducia, ho trovato il gioco nel complesso piuttosto carino. Non posso dire che sia un titolo da consigliare con convinzione, e sicuramente non a prezzo pieno, ma considerando che è un gioco che finisce spesso in sconto a pochi euro, devo riconoscere che per quella cifra è più che degno di essere provato. C’è del buono, e in alcune sezioni anche qualcosa che va oltre il semplice compitino. Tuttavia, le ragioni per cui la mia recensione deve inevitabilmente essere negativa sono evidenti fin dai primi minuti.

Il titolo soffre enormemente di una mancanza generale di budget e di rifinitura. I filmati sono, a mio avviso brutti, sia nella qualità dell’animazione che nella regia, e sembrano più un riempitivo che un reale contributo all’esperienza. I personaggi sono poco interessanti, spesso addirittura imbarazzanti per quanto risultano caricaturali e privi di qualsiasi fascino. La storia è esile, banalissima, priva di mordente, e non offre nessun motivo per investire emotivamente negli eventi o nei protagonisti. E qui devo soffermarmi su Kao stesso, che è forse l’elemento che più mi ha infastidito: l’ho trovato irritante, superficiale e spesso persino stupido nelle sue battute e nelle sue reazioni. Per un personaggio che dovrebbe trascinare un’intera serie sulle spalle, questo è un problema enorme. A livello narrativo, per me, non si salva praticamente nulla. Forse un pubblico molto giovane potrebbe trovare tutto più accattivante, ma per un giocatore adulto la sensazione dominante è la banalità.

Allo stesso tempo però è impossibile ignorare i lati positivi, che sono presenti e contribuiscono a rendere il gioco quantomeno gradevole. L’aspetto grafico è davvero piacevole da vedere. Lo stile è chiaramente ispirato a Crash 4, e la somiglianza è palese già dal primo sguardo (e questo continua a confermare la poca originalità della serie ma ok), ma questo non toglie nulla al fatto che il mondo di gioco sia costruito con un buon gusto visivo, ricco di colori, dettagli e scorci molto belli. Il level design è sorprendentemente solido: i livelli sono divertenti da esplorare, contengono parecchi segreti e incentivi per chi ama il completismo, e riescono a mantenere un buon ritmo dall’inizio alla fine. Il controllo di Kao è preciso e piacevole, al punto che muoverlo è forse l’aspetto migliore dell’intero titolo. Anche il sistema di combattimento, pur essendo estremamente basilare e ridotto all’osso, funziona quel tanto che basta per non risultare fastidioso o fuori luogo. Non è memorabile, ma nemmeno sgradevole.

Il vero tallone d’Achille del gioco, più ancora della trama, è la quantità impressionante di bug e glitch. Non si parla di piccoli problemi occasionali, ma di errori di peso che in più di un’occasione mi hanno costretto a riavviare interi livelli. Ci sono compenetrazioni, collisioni sbagliate, trigger che non partono, piattaforme che non si attivano e situazioni che ti intrappolano senza via d'uscita. È una costante sensazione di instabilità che accompagna tutta l’esperienza e che rovina quello che, senza questi problemi, sarebbe potuto essere un platform leggero ma gradevole. Ed è proprio questo che mi dispiace di più: con un po’ più di attenzione alla pulizia generale, il gioco sarebbe stato molto più godibile, anche con una storia mediocre e personaggi dimenticabili.

Nonostante tutto però il gioco non è da buttare via. Anzi, rispetto al primo e soprattutto al terzo capitolo della serie (che considero davvero pessimi) questo reboot rappresenta un passo avanti notevole. Si percepisce la buona volontà, si percepiscono idee interessanti e una direzione artistica che funzionerebbe bene se solo fosse accompagnata da un comparto tecnico più solido. È un titolo che potrebbe far divertire chi cerca un platform semplice, colorato e non troppo impegnativo, ma che allo stesso tempo deluderà chi si aspetta una produzione rifinita o priva di problemi.

Alla fine, il mio consiglio è semplice: se lo trovate a pochi euro, e succede spesso, dategli una possibilità. È un’esperienza imperfetta ma comunque piacevole nei suoi momenti migliori. Se però state pensando di prenderlo a prezzo pieno, vi conviene guardare altrove.

Игра довольно неплохая, но когда после прохождения полез в DLC, ох господи, лучше его бы никогда не выпускали. Из агуша платформер с более менее сюжетом превратили в фиг знает во что, с практически отсутствие сюжета и персонажей. Да, стало сложнее и да появлялись новые новые геймплейные элементы, но это все такое однотипно. Добавили две сложности, которые немного меняет некоторые вещи на уровнях и расположение кристаллов. Если вы гоняетесь за ачивками, то знайте, что придется проходить два раза, на обычной и хард и поверьте это будет очень скучно.

Как сама игра норм (хоть и чувствуется не много не доделанной), но DLC это полный шлак!

除去每关的卷轴、钻石还有KAO字母外，做本体成就一定要留意血量碎片和宝箱的收集。
没玩过旧版游戏没有情怀加成，就是一中规中矩的平台跳跃收集，关卡设计上不如《超级幸运狐》系列，收集成就感上不如《意航员》系列。
多数成就都在DLC bend the rules里，DLC里限时玩法设计的有问题，想要限时完成某一段就必定要放弃那一段的收集。

Okej, może jestem w połowie poziomu z lawą, ale wystarczy. Dość. Ilość bugów, glitchy przeraża. Gra wygląda jak półprodukt PO TRZECH LATACH OD PREMIERY. Bugi z klinowaniem się w niektórych miejscach, nie możesz ocenić w której wodzie zginiesz a w której nie, totalnie nie czuć gdzie leci Kao jak spada. A do napisania tej recenzji zmusiło mnie to, że w środku poziomu, na prostej ścieżce (tam gdzie trzeba było z bumerangu zestrzelić dystansowego ropucha) wpadłem pod mapę (!). Ja nigdzie nie wleciałem poza grę żeby wpaść pod mapę. To się stało do cholery na środku poziomu! Nie wspominając o artefaktach graficznych. Cofając się do pierwotnej serii - ta gra jest parodią. Niestety nieśmieszną. Przejaskrawiona. Cholernie przejaskrawiona. Kao ni uja nie przypomina słodkiego, żółtego torbacza goniącego za motylkiem który znalazł rękawice. Magiczne rękawice? Sorry, nie przejdzie to dla mnie. Jakieś hologramy, magiczne runy. I na Boga, Kao nie powinien mówić. To ostatnie to moje czepialstwo, ale nie czuć ducha gry. Tate popisało się już przy wpuszczeniu pierwszego i trzeciego Kao nieprzystosowanych do tych czasów. A, właśnie. Mamy XXI wiek, zaraz zacznie się druga ćwierć tego stulecia a w tej grze wciąż występują niewidzialne ściany jako blokady przejścia. Jeden z niewielu plusów to dźwięki zbierania monet które za pierwszym razem, przyznam, wywołały uśmiech. Może zmienię moją recenzję jeśli się przełamię i skończę tą "produkcję". Na razie gra wypada baaardzo blado. Jeśli chcesz kupić z nostalgii za żółtym Australijczykiem - nie psuj sobie wspomnień.

Edit: podejście drugie - teraz w ogóle nie mogę przejść poziomu, dwukrotnie utknąłem na momencie gdy trzeba zniszczyć kocioł aktywujący most przy pomocy bumerangu - otóż nic się nie dzieje przy rzuceniu. Z daleka, z bliska, czy to raz czy dziesięć - nic. Cóż. Ta gra to jest wielkie rozczarowanie względem dziedzictwa Kao.

Edit 3: bugi z bumerangami odbierają całkowicie przyjemność z gry. Na końcu jednego poziomu w lodowej krainie nie mogłem strącić gorącym bumerangiem kostki lodu przez co zdobyć ostatniego diamenta. Walka z Najstarszą też wymaga trzeciego podejścia przez błąd w drugiej fazie.

Kao the Kangaroo is a mixed bag. It's very close to being a great game but the bugs, jankiness, and general lack of polish in several areas brings the experience down. Regardless I think there's enough to enjoy here that I do recommend it overall.

In a lot of ways, this is the best game in the Kao series. It's got the best hub worlds by a long-shot, there's more things to do within them and more reason to explore than ever with costumes and health upgrades to buy. I think the game is GORGEOUS, it's on par with Spyro Reignited if not even better looking, the game has some really nice looking levels and speaking of levels - this game has some bangers. I think they are well designed and have fun gimmicks involving your boxing gloves, Elemental effects can be applied to them and used for puzzles and platforming which is neat. I think this game controls really good and the combat here is genuinely some of the best combat I've seen in a 3D platformer, it's nothing complex or crazy but it's perfect for this kind of game. It's a satisfying pacebreaker for the platforming that doesn't go on too long, it's really fun to punch dudes in this game and build up to a big take-down to wipe out a bunch of guys at once.

All of this sounds great right? and it is. It's a really solid platformer but the thing is this game is JANK as hell. It's a lot of little things, boxes disappearing instead of breaking when you hit them, hitboxes of certain enemy types are weirdly small, the way Kao picks up items looks really awkward because he tries to face the camera but doesn't track to face it so he just looks off in a random direction. The audio mixing here is really bad too, sometimes music just turns off and the level is silent for the rest of the level or some things within the game seem like they'd make a sound but just don't. This entire game screams that it was rushed out because there's just a general lack of polish in a lot of different places.

One of the worst things I ran into was that the grapple points were just not working, Kao would just fling off in a random direction and I couldn't figure out why. I messed with the settings and it turns out if you have FPS higher than 60 they literally don't work. If the physics don't work beyond 60fps, there shouldn't even be an option for any FPS higher than that. There was another time I got sort-of softlocked where a flame powerup for my gloves didn't spawn where it was supposed to and I had to die and re-load to get it to spawn again. It wasn't horrible, but annoying.

As for actual negatives with the game itself, I think the voice acting is pretty bad. I understand they wanted to get Polish voice actors because Kao as a franchise originates there but man these actors just do not do a good job. I also am not a huge fan of Kao's new design, it's not the worst redesign I've ever seen for a platformer character but the old one was much better, and it is here as a costume which you can get pretty early on which is cool. It doesn't stay for cutscenes though which is a shame.

If I could, I'd give this game a "mixed" review because it really is a good game hidden beneath jank and bugs that easily could have been patched out but never were. I did have fun playing it but it's got issues, maybe you won't mind the problems as much as me though.

É... um Crash bandicoot só que mal feito.

Honestamente o jogo copiou quase tudo, só que ele é chato, sem ritmo, fases bem parecidas e os coletáveis são bem ruins de pegar pois alguns o jogo não mostra a indicação de quantos faltam. (Importante pra platina)

Mas aí a empresa fechou com chave de ouro, botando uma DLC paga pra completar a história e o resto das conquistas, se a experiência murcha do jogo padrão não fosse suficiente.

Kao the Kangaroo 2022 its great that the game series have a comeback, sadly it didnt do anything really special but its any ok 3d platformer:

Pros:
+ 4 small open worlds to find a few thing here and there and go to the maps (just like spyro for example)
+ 4 maps each world
+ good graphics (simular to Crash 4 and Spyro)
+ story maybe isnt anything spetecualar but its actually the best Kao story so far and have great potential in the future
+ collectiables to find
+ simple but best combat kao game so far
+ fun enemies to fight against

Cons:
- its such a shame that they dont do anything more variety in the gameplay like for example what Kao 2 did it stick a little bit more out (no races or no Gaget to help thought the maps, for an sequel its great potential to have more playable characters for example like Kaia simular what Sypro 3 did would help the sequel if ever comes out to have more variety and stick a little bit more out to the other platformers
- somethimes the gameplay mechanics are a little bit unpolished like climbing dont want to work well
- the challenges (Eternal Well) are good meant but feels useless and a bit boring and way to shorts, also it looks boring too

Game overal is fine but didnt do anything special but if you like 3D platformers like Crash, Spyro or Sonic its worth to check out!

情怀向游戏了，旧版kao给我的印象是比肩古惑狼系列的存在，当年psp上被那头压迫感满满的巨熊追逐的场景至今还历历在目，可惜新作找不回以前的感觉了，关卡设计比较普通，多了很多无关紧要的剧情（还是喜欢以前的哑剧），还有很多场景制作的不太严谨（穿模卡脚，触发不了攀爬啥的），如果单纯翻新旧版再卖的便宜点或许还有点搞头。

Очередная попытка возродить старый трёхмерный платформер в духе Spyro и прочей классики, без попытки привнести в него те нововведения что появились в жанре с того времени. Вроде бы все на мести - яркие, сочные краски, красивые локации и потрясающие вид. Но с точки зрения механик игра достаточно быстро исчерпывает себя, что было бы приговором, но ее спасает скромный хронометраж. Отдельно стоит обратить внимание на техническое состояние, застревания в текстурах и мелкие технические баги будут вашими спутниками на протяжении всего прохождения,
Как проект начала нулевых игру наверное можно было бы оценить выше, но как релиз 2022 минимум однаразовая, а скорее проходная. 7/10
