A year on from release and it still runs like ♥♥♥♥. Really cool idea but unfortunately let down by a lack of optimisation from devs despite them repeatedly stating that fixes were coming. I think they bit off more than they could chew which is such a shame. Save your money.

I have played some hours in the game. Not sure how many it will tell ya anyways. I got this game on sale over the winter sale and just recently started playing it. So the price i can't really speak about. I have really enjoyed it. I have always enjoyed ww1 and ww2 games so a city builder set around is right up my alley. I haven't played many city builder but I do think the ui is easy to learn.....I am still learning about some of it. I am not a spread sheet guy. So I am not in it for the mid max. I haven't used the military side much but the way it all upgrades I do enjoy. I just found my first other governor so I can't speak on the diplomacy much yet ether. But u so think it's a good game. And I highly recommend it if you like games like this.

The city building part is fine.
But war or diplomacy is just boring.

Also science does not seem to be equilibrated for the AIs at all. Luckily they do not take advantage from it against human player.

After nearly 100 hours with the game, I can say that Kaiserpunk is a very ambitious strategy title with a lot of depth, but also one that struggles with clarity—especially when it comes to warfare mechanics.

On the positive side, the economic simulation and class-based society management are genuinely engaging. Building up a stable city, balancing production chains, and watching your population grow feels rewarding and thoughtfully designed. The game clearly has strong ideas and a unique identity compared to other city-builders or grand strategy titles.

However, the military system is where things become confusing rather than strategic. Even after completing the tutorial, many core mechanics remain poorly explained. Movement cooldowns, supply influence, operational delays, and regional logistics all affect your army, but the game rarely communicates how or why these systems are working in the background. As a result, warfare often feels opaque instead of tactical.

For example, units may suddenly experience very long cooldown periods after several movements or attacks, with little feedback explaining the cause. Is it supply distance? Terrain? Operational fatigue? Naval coordination? The game seems to simulate all of these factors, yet the UI does not provide clear indicators. This turns what should be a strategic layer into a guessing game.

The same applies to deployment rules, army withdrawal, and unit replacement. Many interactions feel hidden behind invisible rules rather than communicated systems. Players are left experimenting instead of planning, which undermines the sense of control that strategy games rely on.

Kaiserpunk clearly has the foundation of a great game. Its world-building, economy, and progression systems show real promise. But the warfare mechanics need clearer tutorials, better tooltips, and stronger UI feedback. Without those improvements, the military side feels unnecessarily frustrating instead of challenging.

In short, Kaiserpunk is a game with impressive potential, but also one that currently asks players to understand systems it does not fully explain. If the developers improve communication and transparency in the warfare mechanics, this could become a truly outstanding strategy experience.

Kaiserpunk is the game I didn't knew I need. but it has 2 massive issue that make me can't recommend the game and honestly I can't believe the game is released with them.

1- when I started the game, the date was around 1918. in 1919 the AI already expanded way too far and and somehow was advanced so much it had heavy tanks in 1919! one of them was hostile against me so it made me panic and advance soo much soo fast I was able to unlock heavy tank by 1920. by my understanding is the game should last till 1945. and there is just no way for that to happen with how the AI cheat. the AI has infinite resources and I think it has all techs unlocked, the game was like a stupid speedrun, I overextended so much and was able to keep my economy going thanks to exploiting diplomocy and the fact that the AI has infinite resources. this is a massive issue I have no idea how the game was lunched with it, I hope they rebalance the whole game becouse this is unacceptable progression system. city builders are not meant to be speedrun in 2 years of in game time.

2- the 2nd issue is my main beef with this game, I was able to somehow overcome the first one and actually achieve scientific victory. and in theory I can do it again but my god, the late game performance is unacceptable. the game is soooooooo slow and borderline unplayable, it toke me 10 hours of playtime just to pass the last 3 months of in game time alone becouse of how much I over-extended and the entire map was filled 70% with buildings, games like this generally run on a single processor, I know it is hard to run it in multiple processor but the game really need to find a way to, it is trully unacceptable. I have high end gaming pc, 4090, i9-13900KF and 128GB of RAMs. the game has no excuse to be running this slow at the end game, and as I said it just toke 2 years of in game time to reach in game time, imagine tiger tank in 1920, doesn't make sense

this is my 2 main issue in the game, and without them getting fixed I can never recommend this game. now I have other smaller issue that even with them I can recommend the game, but I want to point out.

1- the economy is not fixable. smugglers are not good source of trades, I had like 10k diseal in trade for hours and no one bought any, they are useless. this is an issue becouse there is no way to generate money except taxes, and you will reach a point where just can't support your economy espically if a hostile AI has 3 squads of tier 4 tanks at your border.

2- trading in diplomocay need rework, you can trade resources for resources, and military weapons for military weapons. why? why can't you just trade any? for example I buy raw resources and sell the military weapons? or do the opposite? and worse why can't you just sell for money? lets say I have 100 tank and in dire need of money. why can't I sell them for money?

3- there is a need to select multiple buildings and apply upgrades to all of them, it is tedius espically at 10 fps.

I really want the game to get better because I might be addicted to city builders now.
