I might be wrong that the control issues plaguing this GameMaker: Studio copy and paste job have been resolved since Just Hero’s release: frankly, it doesn’t matter—it’s just another of countless retro-cute, no-to-low-effort one-button collectathons. If the platforming was clean and environmental hitboxes consistent, you’d be able to finish this in 10 minutes flat as there’s no graduated difficulty and almost no environmental hazards. As is, you’ll fight through the inconvenience of dying a few dozen times to collect the 100 maguffins for the training wheels cheevos and move on, having had no more or less fun than you had before installation.
And if you’re keeping score, Sometimes You’s games can almost all be completed in less the two-hour refund window; very few of these “games” show demonstrably more effort than JH:”HG”.

Just Hero is an extremely short, ridiculous platformer made by who knows whom, how, and mainly under who knows what. The game was made in GameMaker, which partly explains its many flaws:
It has monotonous graphics, painfully awkward character movements, no way to customize the controls, and a completely confusing loading system that can toss you to a random spot in the level when you use the load function in the menu.
So how do you make a game harder? Just slap 'hard game' on the cover. But instead of thoughtful difficulty, players get annoying, VERY simple and predictable traps. On top of that, some of the “bubbles” — these useless local collectibles, which are as plentiful as coins in Super Mario Bros (probably where the creator drew inspiration) — can't be grabbed without triggering a trap and dying (it doesn’t even try to stretch the game out artificially, even a little). Plus, for collecting ten of these bubbles, you don’t get an extra life. The character only has three lives per run (before respawning at the checkpoint upon death), and there aren’t actually that many traps — so they don’t get frustrating. In the end, the game isn’t really all that hard, even though the character takes damage from the tiniest fall, but there are enough checkpoints.
Also, it's worth pointing out that the game description on Steam is totally misleading. The supposed plot doesn't have a hint of a story. Instead, players get maybe three locations at most (the first two level cycles are almost identical in layout), then some random scribbles, and then the game just ends with a 'The End' screen. No self-irony or humor—just pure nonsense.
This 'adventure' takes about thirty minutes to complete, weighs only 8 MB, and is completely not worth your time.
There are achievements and Steam trading cards, but common sense? Not so much.

Wonky hitboxes, unresponsive jump key, what appears to be completely random fall damage that differs depending on the level.
Honestly, the only good thing about this game is that it ends.
If you're achievement hunting and are up for an hour of pain then sure but otherwise I wouldn't bother.

Just Hero, a classic platformer. The gameplay experience on Steam Deck OLED was deeply frustrating.
The Good:
Ran flawlessly on Linux/SteamOS.
Installed and played perfectly from a microSD card.
The Bad:
Unforgiving Difficulty: "Very complicated" levels quickly become cruel. Expect cheap deaths and trial-and-error gauntlets.
Awful Fall Damage: Tiny missteps? Instant death. This feels less like challenge and more like poor design.
Terrible Hit Detection: Enemy attacks often hit when they shouldn’t, and your own strikes feel unreliable.
Suffering > Fun: The description warns you’ll "truly suffer" – it wasn’t kidding. It’s exhausting, not rewarding.
Verdict:
I abandoned Just Hero long before the end. Its punishing mechanics (especially fall damage and hit detection) overshadow any narrative ambition. If you crave a truly brutal retro challenge, proceed – but for most, the frustration isn’t worth the short runtime. I can’t recommend it.

Having strict fall damage on a platformer like this is diabolical.
Je ne sais pas par où commencer, mais Just Hero a littéralement changé ma vie. À l’époque où j’ai découvert ce jeu, tout s’écroulait autour de moi. Mon frère a eu un grave accident de voiture, et il a été dans le coma pendant des semaines. La maison était devenue un lieu de silence et d’angoisse. Mes parents étaient épuisés, et moi, je n’arrivais même plus à trouver le sommeil. Je passais mes journées à l’hôpital et mes nuits à essayer d’échapper à cette réalité.
C’est là que j’ai téléchargé Défense des Blattes Ultime. Franchement, je cherchais juste à m’occuper l’esprit, et ce truc avec des blattes géantes, ça avait l’air ridicule. Mais une fois lancé, j’ai été happé. Il y avait quelque chose d’absurde mais aussi de satisfaisant dans le fait de repousser vague après vague de ces insectes immondes. Ça m’aidait à me sentir en contrôle de quelque chose, même si ce n’était qu’un écran rempli de bestioles.
Ce qui m’a vraiment marqué, c’est la communauté du jeu. J’ai commencé à discuter avec d’autres joueurs, à échanger des stratégies, et je me suis rendu compte que je n’étais pas seul. Beaucoup d’entre eux jouaient aussi pour échapper à des moments difficiles. On s’encourageait, pas seulement dans le jeu, mais aussi dans la vie.
Pendant les semaines où mon frère était inconscient, ce jeu a été une bouée de sauvetage. Il m’a aidé à garder un semblant de normalité, à rire un peu, et à me rappeler que, même dans les moments les plus sombres, il y a toujours une façon de résister. Mon frère s’est réveillé, et aujourd’hui, il va mieux. Mais je n’oublierai jamais ce que Just Hero m’a apporté. Ce n’est pas juste un jeu, c’est un compagnon pour ceux qui traversent des tempêtes.

awful controls. not worth it
Strongly do not recommend. I did not run into any controller or other functionality issues as other reviews have mentioned while on Proton, but the whole game is <40min for the 100% completion and has some of the worst platformer and level design I have had the displeasure of playing. Horrible collectible placement that encourages intentional deaths, overzealous fall damage, and jump physics that cause failed jumps if you bump into a wall/platform, 0/10 would not play again avoid buying or playing.
Just Hero is a simple, fun and difficult platformer game. Though it may not look like much at first, it offers quite the challenge for beginners to the platformer genre.
There is no jump input buffering, making it tricky to make certain jumps, but in a way, it adds to the difficulty. There's also fall damage which can be a nightmare in some parts, but again, it makes the game all the more challenging. Though, I probably wouldn't have had fall damage be a thing personally.
Otherwise, the game isn't long at all, if you know what you're doing it shouldn't take you longer than 30 minutes, but it does provide some challenge and isn't completely a cakewalk.
Definitely recommend, it's cheap and is a great way to test your platforming abilities!

Just Hero is a wonky platformer game.
Nothing new in this game unless you want to mention that it has brutal falling damage! The game runs on very low FPS with screen tearing from the second you enter the first level. From there you have to collect orbs for seemingly no purpose and you have to reach the end of the game. The game has basic art not many animations at all, really the only thing redeeming about it is the soundtrack which is pretty good.
The game took me a middle under half an hour to complete, so again it's extremely short and that's with collecting a bunch of orbs. The game doesn't allow you to take screenshots either. The biggest issue with this game is definitely in the jumping, honestly it's super painful to time your jumps: if you touch the ledge, your character doesn't jump and if you're not close enough to the ledge, you don't reach the next platform. So you're forced to time near-perfect jumps through traps and enemies constantly... thankfully this game has many checkpoints.
Overall, a boring, frustrating and forgettable experience with good music. It's cheap, so whatever, but I didn't enjoy it.

My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and we adopted our son together. Both are now 4 years old.
When we were going through our separation, I felt lost and unhappy. I was self-destructive. One day, I was so angry with everything spiraling out of control that I punched a concrete wall in a moment of overwhelming emotion. This resulted in breaking my fifth metacarpal in my right hand—the hand I worked with, played games with, and used to carry my children to bed—the hand I desperately needed to ensure I could continue providing.
Upon learning the severity of the self-inflicted damage, I became almost suicidal. Keep in mind that just a few months before this, I was the happiest man, with no history of depression or anxiety. I had never experienced anger outbursts, nor was I the type to break down and cry, but I was in a tough situation that truly prevented me from seeing the light on the other side.
With nothing better to do, I looked for a game I could play WITH ONE HAND while recovering. Somehow, I stumbled upon this game and read some of the comments. I decided it was worth a try... I must admit I didn't beat the game, nor did I play as much as some of you. In fact, I may have played this game for only a day or two. That being said, after doing so, I had a new joy and hope for life. I managed to leave behind the pain and suffering that had been thrust upon me. I could experience the joy and happiness of other people. I relaxed for 5 ♥♥♥♥ minutes listening to this music, long enough to realize that I would be okay.
After realizing this, I turned off the game and went back to work. My hand hurt a lot, but I was motivated. I stopped feeling so sorry for myself and became the father I needed to be at that moment, not the weak boy I was behaving like.
Today, I am close friends with the mother of my children. We don't fight, argue, or say hurtful things to each other. We are parents and friends.
Now I have 3 children. My third child is, wait, ALSO 4 YEARS OLD. The woman I am with was going through a very similar situation at the time of my separation, and we just unexpectedly stumbled into each other's lives. We have been dating for a year and are very happy together.
Moral of the story: you never know what life has in store for you, and if I had given up when all odds were against me, I wouldn't be where I am today. This silly little game helped me realize that.

Das Spiel wurde mir vor Jahren einmal geschenkt.
Ich habe es jetzt doch noch auf Krampf durchgespielt, um die Achievements abhaken zu können.
Con:
- Primitives Level designe. (Sowohl Jump and Run als auch die Gegner.)
- teilweise irrsinnig schwere oder nur mit wahnsinnig viel Glück zu meisternde Abschnitte. !Frustrationsgarantie! (Naja, wers mag... steht ja auch im Titel.)
- kurzes Spiel mit sehr abstrakter Handlung. (Mit wirklich sehr viel Kreativität vielleicht erahnbar, aber nicht wirklich vorhanden.)
- Bugs, schlechte Steuerungskalibrierung, falsche Hitboxen...
- Keine Einstellungen. (Ich konnte nicht mal die Musik ausschalten)
- Apropo Musik. Da gibt es nur das aus dem Trailer. Also keine Abwechslung. (Ist vermutlich Geschmackssache.)
Pro:
- es ist ein kleiner Retro Platformer der sehr wenig kostet.
- die Grafik ist ganz nett.
Fazit: Außer für Trash-Game-Hunter oder wahrlich große Retro-Plattformer-Fans ist das absolut nichts. Kann man sich kaum geben. In diesem Spiel steckt vielleicht eine anfänglich gute Idee, aber keine Liebe. Schon gar kein fertiges Spiel.

I love innovations and new techs in games, but some things shouldn't be innovated. there's a reason nobody created a platformer with fall damage before.
When you die, the level doesn't reset. so some levels rely on pure RNG (for example, a level with a moving platform with lasers beneath it, require you to time the platform right, but since the lasers and platform aren't aligned, you just gotta wait for a few years, or get extremely lucky. after which, there is a jump that is GUARANTEED to make you lose 1 life (cause fall dmg right?) and then you're dead.
the game isn't polished (some jumps require you to make it frame perfect, but as you probably know, platformers usually make a window of error, that let's you jump a few pixels after you're in the air as well. the creator of this game, didn't know of this.)
Overall this is a very cute project for 8th grade cs class. it shouldn't be on steam.

If you want a frustrating game, this one is for you! The controls are just off enough to make this one of the most unrelaxing experiences of your life. Click start and watch the frustration mount as you try and control a "hero" that can only jump on his enemies' heads in the same vein as Mario, though there is a distinct lack of charm that makes Mario a beloved classic. Your blood pressure will go through the roof as you try again and again to make jumps across breaks and gullies that you somehow just can't make because the jump button works either instantly or a one-second delay, and you never know which it will be. There are even some levels where the very ground beneath your feet will collapse suddenly as you pass over it and drop you into boiling lava, so don't worry about not having the chance to throw your computer through a window. And if you are craving a challenge that is so unfair that it's a miracle it's been met before, you can try to get all the achievements. So don't wait for just any old game to play. Instead get this rage-inducing "adventure" game that's sure to make your downtime a living nightmare that will make you crave the drudgery of your day job. Happy adventuring!

The developer claim Just Hero is hard game (see main menu), but i'd describe it as game which designed to make you to rage quit.

Any human who don't want to lose their sanity should avoid this game. If you're looking for difficult/challenging platformer, check "Celeste" or "Ori and the Blind Forest". I know those games are about 17x or 35x (vary by region) more expensive, but has far better gameplay/balance and overall duration to beat the game could be 10-25x longer than this game.
Hard in an unfair way. I beat after many "try it again until you randomly make it" sections.
Fall damage feels unnecessary. The end of the game forces you to one heart, makes you jump blindly, sometimes from too high so you die. The platforms could fade over time to be kinder to the player.
No bosses. Very limited number of enemy types (three?).
Decent music. Ok art style.

Выглядит игра как милый и забавный платформер, но всё портит искусственно завышенная сложность. Разработчик зачем-то сделал урон от малейшего падения с высоты, даже с минимальной. Например, вам нужно спрыгнуть с верхней платформы на нижнюю. Если вы просто упадёте, вас пронесёт, а вот если спуститесь прыжком, то одно сердечко потеряете. И этот фактор будет вам повсеместно выносить мозг, ибо глядя на небольшую высоту вы уверены, что урон не получите, но не тут-то было.
Теперь дальше. Игра скудная сама по себе. Сюжета нет, всего 4 мира, врагов пару видов (убиваются прыжком на голову), остальные же противники, это разные препятствия и ловушки. Жизней нет, только ХП, выраженное в сердечках. На каждом этапе имеется чекпоинт, что делает ваши попытки пройти уровень, бесконечными. А вот, чтобы сохранить игру и выйти из неё, надо ещё найти специальное устройство.
На протяжение всей игры, на всех этапах располагаются мыльные пузыри, которые можно собирать. Так и не понял зачем они, кроме того, что за сбор ста штук получите достижение. Расположены они порой в таких местах, что диву даёшься. И ладно когда они находятся в таком месте, чтобы до которого добраться, нужно преодолеть какое-то препятствие. Это как раз-таки и нормально. Но чем дальше, тем веселей. Пузыри просто висят над пропастью. То есть, допустим висят три пузыря. Прыгнули, взяли один и погибли при этом, начали с чекпоинта. И по новой, пока все не соберёте. А дальше ещё хлеще. Они так же висят над пропастью, но чтобы добраться до них с чекпоинта нужно преодолеть ряд сложных препятствий. Так что мой вам совет. Как только соберёте 100 штук, на остальные забейте. А лучше вообще не запускайте игру и уж тем более не приобретайте её. В стиме полно хороших платформеров, но этот к ним не относится. Не рекомендую.
Well I thought this will be a fun littel game. But it isnt there a mechanincs that are complete trash. Is more annoying then fun. The controls are awful.

I've played better games that cost me a buck, and this one is pretty rough around the edges more or less all the way through. But still, it's a dollar. For a game I beat 3 times in 30 minutes. Honestly, I could see this being a fun little speedrun challenge, due to just how short the game is.
Don't buy it if you want something to play for a long time, but if you wanna run through a quick platformer with pretty questionable design at times, and a couple of super silly bugs, you could certainly do worse.

who thought it would be a good idea to add fall damage in a platformer? this is probably the worst game I've ever played. the "collectables" are terribly hidden, and you take damage from basically everything. the game claims to be hard, but that's just because the controls are dog****. don't play this game, and definitely don't buy it.

O jogo é muito simples e posso dizer que até mesmo muito pouco polido Jogabilidade absurdamente simples), porém tem uma ideia que eu gostei bastante, diferente de outros jogos de plataforma, você toma dano de queda, o que deixa algumas fases com uma certa dificuldade. Com certeza não será o jogo da sua vida, mas pelo preço baixíssimo, vale a penas perder uns 30 minutos do seu tempo, zerar e pegar todas as conquistas do jogo. Sem contar que o gráfico é bem legal. It could have been a nice game, BUT the jumping and moving are atrocious, you often miss your jump.
On top of that you even lose a heart even when falling from a small distance, which makes the game frustrating.
This game is from 2016, the negative reviews are full with similar criticism, so the dev could have tweaked things a bit but decided not to (and thus apparently abandoned his game).
It's not even fun for 0,79 euro cent, although if you can get past the frustration it's an easy achievement hunt game.

This developer knew exactly what they were doing when they made this game. Oh, they knew.
I was frustrated for about 30% of it but the rest was pretty fun. Honestly, fall damage was the worst part of it because even after putting up with random BS jumps, when you went through all that to land and die and start all over again it was the most demotivating thing. I have yet to finish because I needed a break from the laser noise of a certain part that shall remain nameless and is CURSED.
If you enjoy precision platformers that are far from perfect but provide some fun music and cute graphics, I'd say go for it. If you're easily frustrated when you have to replay parts over and over then this is not the game for you~

This game is a mixed bag. On one hand, the graphics are quaint, if not minimalist (granted, it's an aesthetic that feels more niche nowadays). Feels like art that goes back to the roots of video games, and doesn't detract from the gameplay like others in the genre. I found the fall damage to be an interesting addition, one that required more skill to maneuver the levels so as to avoid falling too far.
On the other hand, the game falls flat as a platformer. Controls leave something to be desired in the responsiveness department. There is also no indication what the spheres are for until the end. No explanation, nothing. Another crucial component of precision platformers that was botched is the hitboxes. Accurate hitboxes will make or break a game like this. Fortunately the heart system and unlimited lives made it a little more palatable.
Overall: fun art style, so-so level design, and bad controls and mechanics.
Took about an hour to 100%. Plays pretty okay on KBM, but some of the platform edges can be a bit finnicky for making longer jumps.
Funky soundtrack, fun levels. Nothing groundbreaking, but a good time.

"Just Hero" ist ein kleiner klassischer Plattformer.
Das Spielchen ist ein kurzer und ein sehr klassischer Plattformer, der an alte C64 oder Amiga Zeiten erinnert. Als grünes Männchen hüpfen wir in 2D-Umgebung von Plattform zu Plattform. Wir sammeln Bubbles ein und springen mariolike auf Pilzgegner, um sie zu erledigen. Mechanisch ist das alles sehr simplifiziert und auch der Schwierigkeitsgrad zieht schnell an.
Der Umfang ist sehr gering und die verlangte notwendige Präzision hoch.
Merkwürdig ist der schon bei geringen Höhen auftretende Fallschaden. Oft dürfen wir nicht von einer Plattform springen, sondern müssen von ihr runter gehen, um keines unserer drei Herzen zu verlieren, die wir auch hin und wieder wieder aufsammeln können. Oft müssen wir bei weiten Sprüngen auch erst springen, wenn unsere Figur praktisch schon über dem Abgrund schwebt, aber das kennt man ja auch noch aus alten Zeiten.
Die bunt eckige Grafik ist zwar kaum der Rede wert, aber irgendwie doch recht nett. Nicht zuletzt die einem bekannt vorkommenden Sounds, das 8-Bit Piepsen und Schrummeln, lassen Retro-Feeling aufkommen.
Ob man wirklich Spaß mit dem Spiel hat, kommt sehr drauf an. Das Spiel ist verdammt kurz und kann schnell frustrieren. Trotzdem gibt es allein schon für den Sound und das Retro-Feeling einen kleinen Daumen hoch.

Oldschool looking platformer that may look easy at first glance, but it has hidden layer of complexity - jump key works only about 90 percent of the time. The rest 10 percent is what makes this game challenging. You never know when your hero falls down to water, lava or just falls (there is fall damage), even though you're pressing jump key like crazy. Thanks to this clever feature it takes almost 40 minutes to finish the game, which seems fair for 0,39€ sale price.

Привет, друзья, ловите очередную порцию бессвязного текста! Сегодня взглянем на откровенно слабый и безынтересный платформер Just Hero, который не способен украсить ваш вечер новыми ощущениями и удивить невероятными механиками.
Если кто любит заурядные платформеры с отсутствием сюжетной линии, то Just Hero может даже влезть в душу, но на самом деле восхвалять в игре практически нечего.
Начнем с того, что описание игры в магазине обещает богатый сюжет с предательствами, смертью и прочими Санта-Барбарами, но по факту все описание было придумано из воздуха, что конечно же не простительно, да еще и от столь именитого разработчика игр. Делаю ставку на то, что грех лежит на издателе, но разве это имеет значение после такого плевка в сторону аудитории.
Нас ждет череда бестолковых уровней с нудным сбором мыльных пузырей, которые по итогу откроют дорогу к долгожданным достижениям.
Главному герою будут мешать всевозможные ловушки и малочисленные враги, которых можно ловко истреблять своей жирной тушкой, давя головы супостатов ногами.
На каждой локации можно найти парочку столбов с сохранением прогресса, так что терпите до последнего, ища заветное сооружение, а после можно клеить ласты, дабы вернуть себе полный запас драгоценного здоровья. Умирать вы будете часто и горько, а еще безобразно, понеже некоторые ловушки невозможно избежать при первом прохождении участка. Если же вы захотите собрать все мыльные пузыри в игре, то вступайте в конфликт с Богом, ибо для этой непосильной задачи нужно будет совершать многочисленные акты самоубийства.
Наш зеленый герой умеет ходить и прыгать, а других талантов у него не нашлось, что крайне удивляет и расстраивает! Это же игра от студии Anatoliy Loginovskikh...где лазеры, где грибы, где кокаин, разработчик, ты зачем делал игру без прихода?!
На самом деле я уже рассказал все тонкости, представляете? Крайне пустой на геймплей и содержание платформер, который не обрадует вас даже своим внешним видом, да и управление мне показалось топорным. Большая часть моих смертей была связанна с неубедительной реакцией героя на нажатие прыжка, что пару раз вызывало мысли о преждевременном завершении прохождения.

Если же хвалить игру, то за музыку, но и этот пункт крайне индивидуален. Мне понравилось, вам нет, а Вася из соседнего подъезда после прослушивания бузотером стал...вот же засада.
К плюсам можно отнести скромную цену, которая даже без скидок готова высосать звонкие монетки из кошелька, только зачем? За эти же деньги можно найти игры куда веселее.
В итоге у разработчика вышла слабая и скучная игра, которая недостойна стоять на одной полке с новоиспеченными шедеврами, что взрывают мозг своими идеями. Мне не понравилось, но стоит подметить тот факт, что я многого ждал от этого платформера. Если у вас нет никаких ожиданий и вы просто хотите умереть раз 200 за прохождение, то останавливать точно не буду. Приятной игры!

Как сделать любой платформер сложным, особо не напрягаясь автору?

Нет, это слишком для [i] Sometimes You[/i]. Мы просто будем отнимать здоровье за то, как каждый раз герой приземляется с какого-нибудь уступа на землю. Компенсирует такое количество смертей возрождение на специальных чекпоинтах, даже, чтобы взять некоторые пузыри, нужно умереть. Итого проскакать 5 локаций. Сюжет, о котором пишут в описании, в игре никак не отражён.
Про стилистику и графику хорошего ничего не скажешь – [i] GameMarker[/i]. Бедная цветовая палитра, малое разнообразие текстур, скромные намёки на наличие анимаций, раздражающие громкие звуки и надоедливая музыка.
