É um jogo divertido, mas é praticamente impossível entender o que acontece na tela. Esse é o principal defeito dele. Joguei duas fases e já não fiquei com vontade de continuar. Ele se torna bastante entediante por isso, você faz as coisas sem entender direito o que está acontecendo.
Por exemplo, você chega num chefe e sua energia está caindo, mas de repente ela fica no máximo de novo. Mas não deu pra ver se você pegou algum power up por isso, não se sabe o que aconteceu.
Você tem que matar todas as unidades terrestres, mas é impossível distinguir o chão do que está voando. Fica uma maçaroca na tela. Na segunda fase, eu fiquei voando de um lado para o outro tentando achar a unidade que faltava e não consegui. Detalhe: o cenário é extremamente curto e mesmo assim não dá pra ver onde é.
Matei meio que por acaso, eu nem vi acontecendo isso. E vida que segue.
Tem alguns elementos bacanas, a ação na tela é curiosa e tem uns efeitos visuais interessantes. Não é ruim, mas sinto que o potencial aqui foi desperdiçado.

Providing the exact experience expected is a commendable feat, however the end result is still a hard to play 'retro' game without enough weight or polish to last past a first taste.
While this runs fine on my steam deck, the only way I could get it to even remotely work on my desktop now was to put it into the beta branch, which has oddities in it, and I know I'm not the only one facing this. A beta that will likely never be completed as it looks like the devs abandoned this years ago.
If they fix their software, I'll put this to a yes, as it is fun.
Shame because it's the closest we ever got to a modern Uridium.
Fantastic shooter, in a style you rarely see anymore. The best kind of sensory overload, that keeps everything tangible and makes each new level and new high score satisfying.

A fun Uridium-like game.
Gameplay is fun and to-the-point. You can zone out and disappear into it for a while just like with Uridium on the C64 back in the day.
The audio is dripping with SID-style 8 bit goodness and the feeling of playing an 8 bit shoot 'em up is captured perfectly. Kudos to the developer this does exactly what it's supposed to.

recomended but not at full price. The game is inspired by uridium. the retro pixel graphics are fun but a bit distracting (too many efects). The objectives of the medals are not properly balanced (some are hard if not impossible). that´s ok if that was in latter levels. but beginer levels suffer from the same problem. However the biggest problems were: no remappable controls. My arcade stick can´t fire and move in turbo mode at the same time (a bug) and there is some medals that require that (i had to switch to keys). However is a fun game with good mechanics. You will not find games similiar in the market (bigest strenght) and if you like simple retro shmups you will have a good time. buy it only if has a big discount

Defender with a spin. Buy it on sale. Good music and sound effects. Floaty controls. Overall a great budget game. Not worth full price. Hyper Sentinel has balancing issues and can become frustrating quickly.
Hyper Sentinel is an awesome game with a perfect gameplay. If you go deep in, the reward is a lot of fun and sensations. And last but not least, the music is really a big plus and motivate to play more and more. Hyper Sentinel is an oldschool game, not so easy, very polished and became for me one of the near perfect oldschool neo retro game. Thank a lot Huey Games.

Hyper Sentinel is a remake of the 1986 Commodore 64 shoot 'em up, Uridium. It's not a ripoff, it's done by some of the same guys, and it was kickstarted (apparently people wanted this, which seems weird given the poor public reception). I played Uridium when it was new, don't get me wrong, but the problem here is that it's not 1986 anymore. You can't go home again.
From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard.
A choice was made to use obsolete, decades old retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result. Now... I know Uridium had graphics that were considered great at the time, but they'd be considered terrible today. And before the indignation "IT'S AAARRTTT" people start whining, remember, this game would have been so much better if the developers had picked up any programming and graphic design skills beyond what was available in the 1980's and had made this with 4K resolution and high quality visuals. But they didn't.
There's no options to change the resolution for the game or customise the graphics settings. There's no way for gamers to ensure this is running at the native resolution of their displays... there's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision. There's no way for gamers to try improve the low quality graphics.
The controls can't be customised, which will be an annoyance for many, but it can also render the game unplayable for differently-abled gamers.
These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game.
The poor quality of this game is reflected in the general public reception. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only 9 players. That's right, only 9. This is a pitiful enough number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam, the overwhelming lack of interest in the game is remarkable, but also to be expected. This complete and utter rejection of the game from gamers should be a keen information point for anyone considering buying shovelware like this. Gamers just didn't take this seriously, and for good reason.
It's difficult to suggest this remake is better than the original Uridium, it seems more like a nostalgia gouge than anything.

Erinnert mich an Uridium vom C64, war damals einer meiner liebsten Spiele daher spiele ich auch meist nur den C64 Modus hier aber der neue look sieht auch nice aus. Für 66 Cent Sale Preis absolut top aber auch der normale Preis ist ok, man hat ja verschiedene Modi die man auswählen kann, passt alles gut zusammen, für zwischendurch äußerst Empfehlenswert!

Esse é um jogo bem divertido shootemup baseado nos classicos dos arcades nos anos 90, ele é bem simples mas é bem divertido e fiel aos jogos que ele se baseia, o jogo é bem frenetico e caotico tendo varios inimigos pelos levels e varios efeitos loucos, mas enquanto eu falo que esse jogo é bom isso não quer dizer que ele não tem seus problemas, e ele tem problemas sim, os levels são bem repetitivos e todos são bem iguais a não ser por um boss diferente(que na verdade nem é tão diferente assim) e mesmo sendo legal os modos extras, as medalhas e as diferentes dificuldades, eu não chamaria de conteudo novo suficiente, e alem disso o jogo em si honestamente não é tão bem feito, eu tava tendo muitos problemas com o jogo sempre iniciar no monitor errado(eu tenho dois monitores, um sendo uma tv) mesmo eu mudando as configurações do meu pc, e alem disso não existe opção de jogar no modo janela voce é forçado a jogar fullscreen, não tem opção para mudar os controles, as intruções que aparecem no menu são mostradas com botões de controle mesmo eu jogando no teclado etc, então em geral o jogo é um bom esforço mas ele tem algums problemas que atrapalharam minha experiencia e eu achei o conteudo do jogo meio meh.

Un jeu de tir martien divertissant. Son esthétique est très bonne, car elle rappelle les anciennes arcades, et le son aide également à l'immersion. Lorsque vous jouez, vous vous sentez comme dans les années 80 en train de lancer des pièces devant une machine.

Awesome Retro game
Not worth $8+tx, but I only got it for .89 on sale. I was going to get a refund if I had spent $2 or more. Ill keep it and mess around, for the price I paid. Its not a bad game, just not worth the listed price, as far as I can tell, so far.
This turned out to be really fun for me. I think it has something to do with the simple gameplay. You have to destroy and entire battleship (or bring it to critical?) until its "guradian" (boss) emerges. Along the way there are random powerups (which will save your butt often) and tons of score bonuses.
If I have to give any criticism...I think the powerups are little too random but I don't know. There's also a mechanic where you can rest off to the sides to regain energy. Yeah, this isn't one of those one hit death games. There's a retro mode I havent tested yet so it might depend on your setup.
All in all, the game is great. There's no dubstep as shown in the trailer, just nice chip tunes and all the appropriate bleeps and bloops. Some a little louder than others but nothing too annoying.

In March this year (2020) some developers at Itchio including Huey Games offered their games for free to help gamers get through the Corona lockdown and I downloaded a bunch of them, mostly shmups. Hyper Sentinel was one of games I got. I played it for a few levels and even though I was still struggling with the controls I enjoyed myself enough to get it on Steam to have fun earning achievements and compete with others.
[b]Origin[/b]
The game is a reimagination of Uridium for the C64, a game I've played when I was young. They've kept the best elements of the original and improved it. Most noticeable are the colourful pixel graphic art style, partcle effects, the powerups and the bosses.
[b]Gameplay[/b]
The ship you control can move up and down, flip to chance directions and shoot. While flipping you're invincible so it's also a good way of dodging enemy ships and bullets. You can use boost to speed up however while using a boost you can't shoot. Shooting ground targets, the boss or an alienoid will increase your multiplier. It will decrease over time so you need to keep at it. When you get hit you lose energy, if you haven't been hit for a while your energy bar will fill up again. Once you've cleared a level you get bonus scores for level, formation, time and skill.
[b]Levels[/b]
There are 9 unique levels which you can play in 3 game modes in 3 difficulties making a total of 81 leaderboards to compete for. Each level has 4 medals to be earned which is a fun way of getting familiar with the game.
[b]Game modes[/b]
The 3 game modes are Arcade, Boss Run and Survival. In Arcade you have to destroy all the ground targets first before engaging in battle with the level guardians, in Boss Run the level guardians are present from the start and in Survival only the turrets are left and you have to stay alive as long as possible wave after wave of enemy ships.
[b]Conclusion[/b]
What I personally like about this game is that the levels are short with some random elements and there are multiple ways to score big which you have to discover for yourself. The emphasis is on strategy, accuracy and speed. This makes the game very replayable and even a bit addictive. The music is nice as well.
For me the hardest to get used to was the flipping. I still catch myself keeping left or right pressed while you only have to flick your joystick once to fly the other way. It may seem a bit odd at first that you can just wait to get your health/energy back but this does come at a cost, your multiplier will drop and your time bonus may decrease.
In Arcade the levels are a bit different in each difficulty because of added obstacles on the platforms you fly over in Hard and Retro. However these obstacles are not present in Boss Run or Survival. Having 3 leaderboards per mode per level for these two modes seems a bit excessive. Especially for Survival since without bosses to fight all levels look similar. I really like the game and I enjoyed myself for hours trying to reach the top of the leaderboards on all 27 Arcade leaderboards after having completed the game, but I wouldn't enjoy doing that for the remaining 54 leaderboards, too much of the same.

In several levels your score will go on the leaderboard of another level as well.
Alt+Tab out and in the game is frozen and you have to repeat it to get it running again.
The alienoid boss of 5A will sometimes go and stay invisible.
There's only 1 All leaderboard for all 3 difficulties.
Perhaps in an attempt from the developer to give the game a retro feel you can mash fire faster than the in-game autofire which just means you should turn on Steam's autofire in controller config for an edge over your competitors on the leaderboards. I unfortunately discovered it after I was already done with the game.

Since the game seems to be abandoned with too many bugs to be fixed and with way too many leaderboards I've changed my review into a negative recommendation. I've had fun but I think it's inexcusable to just abandon a (kickstarter funded) game in this broken state.
Fantastic re-imagining of Andrew Braybrook's excellent C64 shmup, Uridium. Just one question for the devs, why are there are 6 graphics settings (STANDARD / VIBRANT / CRT / SPECTRUM / C64), but only two are available, STANDARD and VIBRANT are identical and CRT/SPECTRUM/C64 are identical?
Other than that, this game is definitely a worthy addition to my shmup collection. Go buy!

本作的每关地图其实都是围绕着类似于一艘航/空母的上空进行
地图从左至右在一段有限的空间内，你可以选择从左往右飞的过程中掉头回去变成从右往左
但是在两边到达地图边界时都会强制掉头往回飞行
每关的内容就是在不停来回盘旋的过程中攻击地面上的目标，消灭它们后就会引出关卡的BOSS
它们初期可能只是固定的炮台，但过了几关后就变成可以在整张地图里随意移动的各种敌机
你则需要在追赶这些BOSS的同时躲避子弹并反击它们
游戏难度其实挺高的，因为左右掉头并不是立刻的，所以并不适合躲避子弹
可视范围不是很大，而你又始终在地图中间，相当于只有同类射击游戏一半的反应时间
游戏内容重复性挺高，普通模式下每一关的内容都差不多，也就BOSS有些不同，稍微有些变化
另外价格稍微有些高，90%off的时候还是可以入手玩一下，原价的话真的不怎么值

I owned an Atari 2600, Odyssey 2, Colecovision and Intellivision
(If you're looking at the game count in my library after reading the above: No, I'm not rich; the only thing I've ever spent entertainment money on throughout my life has been video games)
I've tried quite a few retro titles over the past decade but Hyper Sentinel is the first to actually feel like an Intellivision title I missed out on.
The best way to explain it is that it is a salad of many, otherwise, simple components of which, left to themselves, would be bland however the developer has brought sounds, action and game play all together in a very good blend.
You're a fighter simply performing a strafing run on a frigate blasting up the length of it from left to right and taking down enough of it's defences until the levels end boss has to appear to try and stop you.
Flipping is done by pressing either left and right; flipping not only allows you to turn to either direction but makes you invulnerable for a second during the flip. Other than that you only have to worry about one button for shooting.
As you take down turrets, swarming defence fighters and key components on the frigate upgrades are often released allowing you stronger varieties of firepower.
EDIT: OMFG!!!! I got this game in a three dollar bundle - I just saw the asking retail after posting this review - I can't recommend paying more than four bucks for this 0_o
A fantastic, lovingly crafted remake of Uridium, an old Commodore 64 classic. A bit easier than the original, thankfully, but equally hectic.
Looks and sounds great, fun but very hard. Never played Uridium but ended up backing the Kickstarter anyway as the demo seemed pretty cool. Was definitely worth backing!
Do you know the feeling of starting a game and realizing within minutes that you wasted your money? Yeah, that's what I found here. Sadly I did not try the game when I bought it, and by the time I played it for the first time I was past the refund window. If I was still in the eligibility window for refund, this would second-fastest refund in all my time on Steam.
This game is a mess.
You cannot see anything on the playfield due to too many particle effects, plus the destructible parts of the ship do not stand out in any way. Each level I played I had to fly back and forth multiple times across the entire playfield to locate the last object to shoot. The ship handles with all the grace of a shopping cart loaded to the top with hundreds of pounds of kitty litter bags.
The boss behavior is frustrating. On the first boss, even though it is completely stationary, I found it impossible to do any kind of skill-based dodging because of how poorly your ship controls, how "zoomed in" the game is, and how quickly the enemy projectiles come at you. On the second boss which splits into four UFOs, I couldn't even beat them on Easy until my second run because they fly about willy-nilly and often crash right into you. You cannot see them coming from off screen.
I will not play this game. Frankly, this game is worth at most $1, not the laughable $17.49 they are asking. That means that even at 90% off it is still a "DO NOT RECOMMEND"

Hyper Sentinel es todo un homenaje no solo a los shoot em' ups laterales de los años ochenta sino también a los distintos sistemas de 8 bits que existieron en esa época, ya que mezcla la acción frenética de Gradius, R-Type y Salamander con la posibilidad de poder disfrutar con cuatro modos gráficos pertenecientes a la MSX, NES, ZX Spectrum y Commodore 64, además que los estruendosos sonidos de los efectos especiales no hacen creer que estamos frente a una máquina arcade delante de nuestro ordenador.
The game is nice overall, but there are some things i didn't like and i eventually refunded it.
I hate the fact that i can't shoot while going fast, and sometimes it's hard to distinguish the destroyable parts of the sentinel due to very bright colors for both the backgrounds and objects. Also, in uridium releasing the button also fired the bullet and it felt great, but nothing like that exists in this game. Pressing and releasing space fires only one time.
Other than that, the game is well polished and offer many contents, but i can't deal with these small problems.
I think i'm just not suitable with games like Uridium since i was not a big fan of the original game in the first place. Uridium was too frustrating for me.

Adds powerups and health bar so it's less frustrating.
Replaces the end-of-level minigames with bosses, which are more fun.
Unlike Uridium, has an easy mode (the default mode, in fact) which turns off most background collisions.
Cons:
Explosion sprites look worse than the ones in Uridium did 30 years ago. They are featureless circles, which might look OK with fast animation but the framerate of their animation is really really low.
Intro screens are non-skippable and must be viewed every time you load the game.
Can't turn ship on side. (well I can't, can you?)
Mixes different sized pixels on the same screen at once - even rotates some pixels!
Not playable with an original C64 joystick, because you need at least two buttons (fire and boost). In fact not playable with anything except for an XInput controller it seems - DirectInput controllers not recognised.
Font is so retro stylized that it is difficult to read.
Spiel macht Spaß, trotz anfänglicher Startschwierigkeiten. Musste jedoch erst recherchieren, was ich machen kann an den Einstellungen, habe den Staem-Overlay deaktiviert, seitdem läuft es einwandfrei. D’aussi loin que je me souvienne, j’ai toujours aimé les shmups. J’ai eu la chance (?) de connaître ceux des années 80 / 90 dont Hyper Sentinel s’inspire. Gros pixels, bruitages stridents, tout y est ! Pour les plus vieux, le jeu propose même un affichage tube cathodique, ZX Spectrum et Commodore 64 !
Le but est très simple, vous pilotez un vaisseau pouvant se déplacer vers la gauche ou la droite de votre écran et vous devez éliminer toutes les cibles au sol pour faire apparaître le boss du niveau. Un système de scoring est présent, il faudra donc essayer si possible de laisser les défenses en vie, faire monter la jauge de combos, ramasser les bonus qui apparaissent, etc.
Le gros problème est que, vieux jeu oblige, l’action est vraiment zoomée et on ne voit quasiment rien. C’est simple, il est presque impossible d’esquiver un ennemi qui vous fonce dessus. Entre le moment où il apparait à l’écran et le moment où il est sur vous, vous avez à peine le temps de vous déplacer. Du coup on finit par tirer sans trop regarder ce qu’on fait, bouger de haut en bas en espérant ne pas prendre de tirs et évidemment tout plaisir de jeu disparaît en même temps. Un radar n’aurait pas été de trop.
On sent bien l’amour que les développeurs portent à leur titre mais pour ma part ça n’a pas fonctionné, je l’ai plus trouvé frustrant qu’autre chose. Au bout d’une heure ça allait un peu mieux mais à aucun moment je n’ai eu vraiment l’impression de pouvoir scorer dans de bonnes conditions.

An astonishing 8-bit explosion simulator with a wonderful variety of gameplay from blasting to avoiding to dodging to timing to hiding to going in guns blazing. The review on Youtube from Kim Justice is something I agree with totally: so if you still need more convincing then look for that.
Also: I'm playing this with my Buffalo 6button SNES-style controller and it works wonderfully.
Fabulous, frantic Uridium style shooter that stays true to its 8 bit roots but comes with a fresh lick of neon paint.
Addictive (and tough) gameplay, a great selection of weapons (the ball and chain is a personal fave) and several different modes all add to the game's depth and longevity.
Quite simply: if you like shoot em ups, you owe it to yourself to buy HyperSentinel
If you are of a certain age you may very well remember Uridium* by Hewson Consultants on your (C64, Spectrum, CPC, etc.) with fond memories, the super quick scrolling, the reactions, and multiple stategies, well it's all back, and that includes the old-skool graphics too if you want it.
Hyper Sentinel is, essentially the logical progression of Uridium, the same baseline idea: Blast and destroy the suface of a Dreadnaught ship, avoiding and destroying it's defenses along the way, along with waves of attacking alien ships, once done, instead of landing on the ship as-per the original, you now take on the Boss before the Dreadnaught explodes and it's next level. All of this with a modern twist, different weapons, eye popping speed, repeatable levels with leaderboards, hey it's even got MIXER-MODE.
Not the most complicated of games to control (Direction and Fire, with Speed Boost), but thanks to the differing gametypes, power-ups, level groups, and sheer raw playability of what made those 80's games so great, I have to strongly recommend this. Hey if you bought Uridium or remember playing it and loving it, just don't read any further simply click BUY, that's all there is to it.

As a throwback to a long forgotten age, Hyper Sentinel takes the arcade thrills you'd fine on computers of the era… and ramps the intensity up to 11.
With mechanics such as an energy bar (allowing you to take multiple hits over a single one), the dizzying assortment of weapon upgrades letting you sow chaos on the playfield - to the bosses which offer a dexterity challenge, along with the desire to beat your times, truly make you want to come back to it.
To top it off, there's the retro filters, which combined with the retro difficulty mode… really, really let you feel like you're back in 1986 again.
Some may say that arcade games don't offer replay value, or significant challenge: Hyper Sentinel is a title which proves otherwise in my book.
Really great action packed shoot em up! Takes the 80's classic and gives it a whole lot more.
Very fun, fast-paced, side scrolling shooter. The weapons provide a lot of variety, the C64 inspired music is catchy and has enough distortion to give that nostalgic feel. The options for colour filters is a nice added touch, however the C64 and Spectrum modes seem to effect the framerate on one of my machines so I didn't use them as much.
The different difficulties do not add much (hard adding more barriers and retro dealing damage everytime you hit said barriers) so the 12 sectors are what you'll be playing regardless of mode. It also appears that for all stages, the highest score you are able to achieve will appear on one leaderboard regardless of difficulty. It's also a bit of a gripe that the ability to gain control your ship only begins five seconds after the in-game timer starts.

Fun! Pretty much an in your face old school shoot 'em up. The graphics are bright like the good old 8/16 bit days, and the sound effects match. :D I've had no problems with the game play speed, generally the flow of the game is pretty much self explanatory, which is just as well, because just like the good old retro days, I spent zero time reading about controls or anything else to do with the game, I just went in all lasers blazin' :)
Overall nice job, it's a great shoot 'em up that will keep the genre fans happy.
I was a teenager in the 1980s, I owned a C64 from 1983 and an Amiga A500 from 1989 onwards. Hewson produced three of my favourite games (Uridium, Paradroid and Alley Kat). Hyper Sentinel is a beautiful, frantic, retro, absorbing successor to Uridium.
It's fun and it's addictive and I love it - even though I'm in my 40s now and I'm really not very good at it, I'm still loving it.
All the extra achievements and unlocks and different modes is going to have me playing this for a very long time.
Loving the nasty Commodore-64-like soundtrack! The game's fun, too. Colourful, chaotic, kinetic, without any tedious story-bits between pew-pew sessions. Visually it sits between the original Uridium and the far more detailed Amiga sequel. Gotta say, though, that I'm not a fan of "cleanly rotating big pixels" -- it becomes all too obvious that the pixel art was a modern design choice rather than an artifact of the technology used. On the other hand, there's usually too much going on for it to really matter. Quibble #2: The retro graphics modes are far too bright for my liking; space should be black, and always was on *my* tellies. Still, recommended!

If you're looking for a blast of 1980's joystick-breaking arcade SHMUP you'e found it. You want that super-slick bullet-hell that was Uridium? Yep. Brilliant chiptunes? Check. CRT / Spectrum / C64 modes? Yep, those too.

A long time ago in a retro gaming galaxy far far away there was a unique new type of shooter that was a sidescrolling/overhead hybrid called Uridium and this created a new breed of games, Hyper Sentinel started as a Kickstarter but didn't meet it's funding goal but is a tribute to Uridium and has been created by industry veterans.
[h1]Gameplay[/h1]
Think of it as an insane version of galaxions but as a side scroller game and you'll get the picture, your job in your lonely ship is to destoy all the aliens on that level but do it quickly as taking too long speeds things up but apart from that there are obstacles to avoid, powerups to collect, multipliers to obtain for really big scores with bosses to boot and quite often multi bosses as well so it's an adrenaline rush.

Excellent retro graphics, nice bright colours and they move at a blistering pace, there are some retro filters in there as well such as C64, Spectrum and CRT which is a great touch, animations and movements work really well and no slow down so pays great homage to the original game but in a much more colouful way.

The original Uridium had a rather catchy and moody feel to it and i have to say for Hyper Sentinel they have captured the mood just right here but added a modern take to it but it all flows very nicely and sounds awesome expecially when turned up loud. Sound effects are nicely done but there are no real surprises here but suits the game well but i do wish they were a little louder or had some voice samples to really make it shine.

Not too many options so you can't change many settings but there are a healthy set of leaderboards and other game modes but everything that was in the original game is basically here, just to mention that the presentation and the title screen for instance is very similar to what you would have seen during the 8 bit period which is a nice touch. Only a couple of features missing from Uridium are that you don't land at the end of a level and there is no bonus section.

A fine tribute to the original Uridium so if you ever played that during the 8 bit period then you will be sure to love this, design, gameplay, graphics and sound is all very similar to what came before but difficulty has changed a little, sure it is still a challenge but it's not as difficult as it could be but it can get quite insane at later levels so do be prepared for that. Ask yourself do you like challenging games or not and if you do then this will be right up your street as it pays to know what you are getting yourself into, although it's very easy to play it's not for the total casual player out there but hey do well and you'll have your name in lights.

This game had been made with lots of love !!!! It's full of action but you never get lost.
If you have loved URIDIUM on c64/spectrum, then here you have the best possible remake one would expect.
Yes it's release 1.0, and i expect additional options coming in a possibly additional levels on the long term.
But what has been achieved so far with this first version, is really first class.

Hyper Sentinel is a dose of Defender-like arcade action with the intensity cranked up to full-speed, though it most closely resembles the lesser-known cult classic Uridium. Each new level is a crazy new massive Capital ship to slowly chip away at with your little fighter pilot, and each one presents an insane boss to take your chance at. This is arcade shootemup action at its best, purest, and most distilled.
[h1]Gameplay[/h1]
The levels take course over a small stretch of side-scrolling airspace just above a busy and well-armed carrier ship, with directions being quickly reversible similar to the classic Defender but with much more in common with the C64 fan-favorite Uridium. Instead of a horizontal side-view however, Hyper Sentinel fixes its view above your ship for a top-down view that shows the fleets of turrets and structures that line that surface of the enemy Capital Ship.
It's all broken down into incredibly fast, slick and responsive controls that are as simple as they are exhilarating. Flipping your direction is as easy as tapping the opposite direction, a simple boost sits on the Right Trigger to give you a sporadic burst of speed for chasing down power-ups or escaping enemy fleets, and the only other real function to speak of is the rapid firing of your lazers.
The ultimate score-chaser is exactly what this is, with impressive yet bite-sized one man assaults against an entire fleet and titan-like Carrier ship that erupt into explosive boss battles all taking the course over a mere 5-10 minute epic war per attack. All forms of point-multiplying extras appear momentarily across the screen to distract you from your Carrier-bombing duties and give you a little extra chasing to maximize your high-score with if you're brave enough to break away and pursue them.
There's an absolutely satisfyingly destructive array of weapon powerups to chase down with your boost and pickup on the battlefield, and they're diverse in their usage. A swinging cluster of tethered maces wreck havok in a radial area, and lines of destructive mines can be dropped rapidly as you boost along the battlefield. Specific types of weapons seem to be specific to stages, and they become increasingly insane to match the progressive intensity of bosses and battleships.
Hyper Sentinel also boasts being the first of its kind with its status as "The World's First Interactive Livestream Arcade Game!". Using a social media implementation through Mixer, viewers can screw with the player/streamer in all sorts of distracting and humorous ways from hurling asteroids to even helping with shields if they feel merciful enough. I haven't seen it in action, but it seems like a pretty damn fun way to replay and engage with potential players.
[h1]Visuals/Sound[/h1]
Right away the crunchy warm tones of the opening chip-tune fulfill my haziest arcade fever-dreams, this is a serious throwback to the days of heavy-duty C64 era theme compositions and the impact of the harsh and dissonant but memorable and hum-able melodies is just as satisfying as it was in those days.
While the visuals have a modern-flavored voxel style to them that is vibrant and appealing in the way many casual games manage to be, it still evokes that musty old arcade feeling where you just feel compelled to slap your quarters on the cabinet for the next turn at breaking that high-score.
[h1]Final Thought[/h1]
Hyper Sentinel is an awesome and ludicrously addictive coffee-break shooter with lots of intense ships and bosses to take on in quick and exhilarating sessions, and with so many options of how to purchase the game it had me thinking that this game would be at its best on the Switch for the wonderful portability to compliment that "one-more-try" hook it has.
With intense competition on the leaderboards, its nice to be able to play this anywhere and its such a damn fun shmup that I can easily see myself double-dipping for that purpose. That's a good sign!

It's all here! Uridium's spiritual successor Hyper Sentinel is a fast paced side scrolling shoot -em up with great music and sound effects and visually stunning graphics that are eye candy for for the senses. I love the added graphics modes (Vibrant, CRT) and even some retro modes for those of us that remember the original (Spectrum, C64).
After several years of nt having played the original I was quickly reminded of the heart pounding gameplay. Seriously you will your heart beating in your chest as you try to very tactfully try to maneuver around walls, cannons, alien ships, and more. If you were a fan of the original you'll love this- If you are new to the Genre- this is an example of how its down in its best form- Kudos to the team who made this happen at Huey Games and Andrew Braybrook & Hewson for starting it all way back when!
Addictive as HECK. I was lucky enough to get a chance to play this at EGX and PlayExpo before the release, and can say that this is possibly one of the most addictive "just one more level, then bed" games I've played in a long time. Poor Rob had to put up with my adolescent "But, I'll get it NEXT time..." for almost half an hour at EGX, and it was only the lure of a bag of sweets that he got me off the darned thing.
If you like old school games, or want to experience NOW the thrill that we had THEN when we played games like Uridium, Galaxians, Galaga, Scramble, Oids, and so on.. The sheer thrill of "I can do this", and the inevitable "I'll do it next time".
There are levels which are frustrating as heck, but the way that you fly, and the way that you attack things in a run from offscreen, and then dodge out of the way as they come into view becomes second nature very quickly.

Love this game - as will anyone who loved Uridium on the C64 or Spectrum. Been playing more on XBox One than Steam, but both games seem identical. Frantic blasting - leave brain at the door and just go for it! Excellent revamp of a classic game.
My only niggle would be the C64 and Spectrum graphics mode - I can't seem to get them without having a CRT TV effect applied, which makes the visuals horrendous! If I'd have had a CRT TV like that back in the day I'd have returned it to Dixons!
But hey - the different graphics modes are a bonus!
