I wasn't expecting this at all! I thought the three day trip back to Earth would be peaceful and lonely and not at all filled with reading about tragedy! And so began my hateful days...

Screw this bollocks.
This game is a technical disaster, low-ass resolution (ever heard of HD, Full-HD or 4k?), scrolling feels broken and non-smooth in a game about scrolling and reading texts.

Then the dev added a fake achievement. Level four revive blablabla. I dont mind that i cannot obtain that, but because of that i wasted HOURS of my lifetime, THE ONLY THING I CAN NEVER GET BACK to save *Mute from killing herself or wiping her memory, however you wanna call it.
I tried everything, i even sorted the logs and only read the ones i deemed "important" to get *Mute a full picture of what happened, so she doesnt kill herself. But no. It seems the achievement is fake and there is no actual way to save the actual *Mute.
And THEN i found out you could skip those ridiculous waiting times of 12 hours by pressing S only to get called a jerkface by the dev for doing that. But ofcourse she is not a jerkface for making us wait FOR DAYS in hope of getting a different ending.
Dear Dev, please learn about the value of time, because that is the only currency we never get back once we spend it. You Hypocrite. You cheat us by giving a fake achievement, making us believe we could achieve something that we cannot, but us skipping time on our 5th playthrough is not tolerable for you? Screw off. Jerkface.

How much time is too long for a person? 50, 100, 200? maybe even 300 years? How long until you're done with it all? Until you completely mastered a skill? Until continuing makes no difference?
How about an AI? it's easy to say they have no soul and never will, but if we go to sci-fi version that's closest to human as possible, would that make a different? AI that needs to replace their parts. Living so long even the machinery inside needs to be replaced, CPU that's failing, SDD/cloud that's full and needs to be recompiled or deleted overtime. How about using 1600 years to run a "county", how much more can you learn about it? How much longer, until you just don't care...

The best part of the sequel is how much an impact your choices from the first game has. This might as well be 3 in 1 games to be honest. That and well, "Nothing is infinite, not even a machine".

Hate Plus 的另一个特点，是作者对本游戏应该如何游玩体验，方方面面的强烈控制欲：不只是用剧情分支，cg 收集奖励，稀有成就这些老生常谈的方法。由于涉及剧透，如果确定不会亲自游玩体验，可以看看成就列表和社区内容感受一下，或许会带来意外的乐趣。只要不在意成就收集，和稍微被冒犯一下，所有这些控制措施，也都可以用非作弊方式绕过 (改系统时间也不需要)。能否接受纯看喜好，但不可否认这很独特。游戏嘛，别太认真。

overall i wish i could leave a "mixed" review instead of just a yes or no recommendation. perhaps my expectations are to blame from how much i loved Analogue: a hate story
i personally didn't like how half of the articles you read have no true impact on the mystery you're trying to uncover and a good portion of those articles are written like bad fan-fiction, it feels like its trying too hard to create drama while ignoring the goldmine they have right in front of them. the big twist near the end was painful and i don't know if that's because of good writing or done i am with that particular trope.
i feel like old*mute is ignored as an actual security AI and is presented as some sort of political AI, while i enjoyed reading how old*mute and the council interacted giving a more fleshed out dynamic between them all it end up feeling like so much has been left untouched.
what i did enjoy was watching how the AI acted/interacted with the articles, your decisions and especially each other.
the *Hyun-ae route was cute, watching her gush over some of the articles was endearing.
*Mutes route was intense (do not play harem route before *mutes) watching how mute reacted to the story especially in the later half stung she deserved much better, i wish we had more character development in the late portion of the game (the end of her route was unceremonious)
the harem route was hilarious, watching how the two AI interacted was the best part of the game, *Hyun-aes aloof attitude and *mutes brashness collide really well creating a good atmosphere that can be serious when it needs to be and comical when given the chance. plus the art in the end credits is amazing i need to see more of mute bashful and blushing.
i give this a recommendation if you want to see more of your favourite AI but don't expect as compelling of a story as Analogue: a hate story.

NGL, not happy this game isn't compatible with newer versions of MacOS, but it's a dark, delightful game with a wonderful soundtrack. There's definitely a deep story here. Not happy with the fact that it's impossible to 100% this game ("Level Four Revive Materia" is the achievement in question that no one can get) but I guess that's just a part of life.
And as for the Mac compatibility issue... that's what the Steam Deck is for, right? :)
I purchased Hate Plus in 2014, two years after playing Analogue: A Hate Story. I played thru all 3 routes, once in 2014 and again in 2019. After all the visual novels I have played, this is the one that has stayed in my mind the most. It does a fantastic job of building up what Analogue ended with, while having it’s own distinct charm. I honestly cant think of any negatives, just go play it!
I own the game but I will never play it. It has an intentionally impossible achievement (not coded in) to poison your Steam Achievements forever just so it can make a Final Fantasy VII reference. I hope Valve eventually requires all achievements be possible or be removed in future. If developers had the choice between keeping servers online or pulling from the store entirely we would have less impossible achievements on the platform.
Nonsense like this game pulls should just be against TOS period.
I played this game and a third of the way thru it i got kind of upset by people leaving reviews about some kind of impossible to achieve achievement. I now know what they are talking about. This actually makes it one of the best games i have ever played.
I loved analogue way too much for my own good and somehow I love this game even more. I cannot recommend it enough.
i have already said too much. Play Analogue then Hate plus. I loved both games so much I'd buy them off sale for as many of my friends as i could.
Has an achievement impossible to achieve
This is a great story that hits a lot harder in 2024 than I imagine it did when it originally released. That said, while the story is superb, the execution is lacking. Having the ability to read a visual novel in essentially any order you want means that there can be no real pacing, something that is only sort of addressed with the real life time gates and later game file unlocks. After reading the last file and getting my ending dialogue, I was left with a feeling of "that's it? there's nothing else?" Still, I highly recommend this one, especially given today's political climate.
Recommend to play the previous game but not require. It would feel more personal for when you start this game.
God I love *Mute. (There is literally nothing more that can be added to this)

The tragic story following the previous game
A prequel to [url= https://store.steampowered.com/app/209370/Analogue_A_Hate_Story]Analogue[/url] that has twice the word count yet doesn’t have much of anything new to say. Well, VN fan discs usually provide even less substance, so the story segments are pretty alright from that perspective; not the worst worldbuilding you might engage in.
However, you also get a number of intermission segments, and holy crap, the levels of being patronizing to the player are off the charts here. It constantly talks to you in a condescending tone, it wants you to read no more than a fixed percentage of scenes per day, and then it tries to force you to… make an IRL cake? Oh, and those who jumped through all the hoops are rewarded with another achievement that’s impossible to get (as in, not even coded into the game), because something something FF7 Aerith and also screw you for enjoying to 100% your Steam games too, I guess.
I mean, I support an occasional jab across the fourth wall as much as the next guy, but this is just straight up antagonistic, and I have no idea how the author could consider it okay. Maybe she was fed up with all the mainstream VNs where girls do nothing but praise the MC? Even so, going to the other extreme doesn’t sound like a very good alternative.
A slightly novel (pun unintended) setting, like Analogue, with the actual story set in effectively feudal-era Korea. The sci-fi bumph around it is a neat framing device. A little on-the-nose perhaps - a literal exposition-dump - but the engaging "AI" characters break things up effectively. The decision to force the players to take 12-hour-long breaks is an...interesting one. Not sure I particularly like it as such, since it seems to serve no real purpose narratively or "gameplay" wise.
But on the whole, I recommend.

This game is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ insane. It's simultaneously
1. a tragic story about political maneuvering/political murdering/wealth disparity/having kids for the tax credit/the gradual tendency of society to get worse and worse until you give up and accept your fate
and 2. an anime quasi-dating-sim where your virtual (girl)friend demands you bake her a real life cake (which I did not do because it was 8 pm and I didn't have the ingredients but I swear to god before I die I'm gonna bake that ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ cake because she deserves it.)
The game doesn't have as much punchiness (for lack of a better term) as its predecessor, owing to the choice to let the player reveal the logs in whatever order they want, which robs the plot of any kind of climax (and robs the player of the feeling they're actually [i]solving[/i] a mystery), but I don't really care because the logs were so much more interesting to read; they actually all directly tied into one another in an interweaving way, as opposed to the first game where some of the side entries were completely unimportant and only existed for flavor. Oh, and the art and music is excellent as always (r.i.p raide.)
I can only regret that I wasn't there a decade ago (to the day) when this game came out, but with the continued relevance of its commentary on how the fragility of democracy leads to regressive societies, you'd be hard-pressed to believe the game is actually that old. So much has changed since then and yet so much has stayed the same.
Heavily recommend playing "Analogue: A Hate story" first! While this game depicts events preceding the first game, it will have a very different impact if you play in the other order.
The story depicts the events leading up to the cultural change that lead to the societal in the first game, much more of a thriller exploring trauma and how power structures can make themeselves fall in on themselves.
Similar mechanics to the previous games with a built in reading limit for each day!
Après avoir suivi l'un des chemins possible jusqu'au bout et surtout après avoir lu plusieurs discussions, je ne peux que déconseiller totalement d'acheter ce jeu, pour une raison bien particulière : le développeur ne respecte pas les joueurs. Si l'histoire est sympathique (sans plus car vraiment trop engagée dans la victimisation des femmes), le gameplay est inacceptable sur deux points :
- 1°) Les temps d'attente obligatoires. Le développeur a trouvé drôle de forcer le joueur à attendre 12 h chaque jour et puis x minutes dans une piètre tentative de hriser le 4ème mur. Ca ne marche pas. C'est juste... chiant...
- 2°) Le succès inaccessible. L'auteur doit apprendre que le recours à la frustration doit avoir un sens réel et pas un truc bidon pseudo intellectuel gloubi boulga mal digéré. Au cas d'espèce, la narration apport déjà un lot bien suffisant de frustration dès lors que le joueur est cantonné comme simple spectateur d'événements passés dont il connait la fin tragique. Alors, honnêtement, mettre un faux succès, qu'en plus on va protéger au moyen d'une vérification d'IP source probablement bidon histoire d'être bien sûr que personne ne pourra ne serait-ce faire un Kobayashi Maru, c'est juste pathétique. Dans le premier épisode, l'une des fins demande de tricher en saisissant un code qu'on ne peut connaître que si on a joué avec l'autre IA. Ca, c'est frustrant mais ça reste correct. Ici, c'est juste inutilement bête.
Conclusion : Inutile de donner de l'argent à quelqu'un qui ne comprend pas qu'un jeu doit être ludique et n'est pas uniquement une expérience pour se faire plaisir.

I FINALLY after many attempts figured out something to do...and...yeah I get it. It's very slow. But you know what makes it slower? The stupid scrolling. There are no shortcuts to get through it faster. Just spinspinspin. I like that the AI chirps in with notes and things and people opf importance. There is something here really...but it needs some more quality to become fun and engaging. Several times during scrollreading the AI says to me "Ya know this is really boring..." I agree.

Hate Plus é uma sequência direta de Analogue: A Hate Story mas que aborda eventos que precedem tudo visto no jogo anterior. Achei legal que o jogo puxa seus saves completos do antecessor e prepara o terreno de acordo com sua narrativa anterior. Sim, leva no mínimo três dias reais pra terminar o jogo (cada capítulo fica bloqueado por 12 horas reais antes de ser liberado), eu não me importei pois o jogo é mucho texto então pausas são bem-vindas... Basicamente você escolhe quais arquivos você quer liberar pra ler em uma sessão, interage com sua AI, e eventualmente precisa esperar o dia seguinte pra prosseguir.
Enfim, enquanto o primeiro jogo foca mais na narrativa ao redor de *Hyun-Ae, esse é centrado bem mais nas ações passadas de *Mute e basicamente é um compilado de tragédias que eventualmente resultariam no mundo do primeiro jogo. O jogo oferece três rotas dependendo do final que você pegou no jogo anterior (ou que você selecionou ao iniciar sem puxar save)
Agora vai ficar um pouco pessoal e talvez spoiler-ish.

No jogo anterior a primeira rota que fiz foi da *Mute e assim decidi continuar esse save, com ela sendo minha assistente. Com isso, os eventos e descobertas desse jogo pareceram bem impactantes, principalmente no terceiro e último dia que já começa com uma porrada nessa rota. Além de ter sentido raiva e frustração com esse jogo, não pude deixar de sentir também culpa... [spoiler]Eu me senti diretamente culpado pelo suicídio da *Mute no intervalo entre o segundo e terceiro dia, e foi terrível. Apesar de não concordar com ela em muita coisa eu acabei me apegando a ela, mas em um momento sobre suas atitudes e se ela deveria mudar não pude deixar de escolher a opcão "Yes, you chauvinistic ♥♥♥♥♥". Apesar de ser extremamente rude, é a única opção que conseguia transmitir melhor meu sentimento. E pensar que eu falei isso momentos antes dela fazer o que fez... Desabei por completo. No final a New *Mute disse que apesar de não ser a mesma build ela ainda era ela e aprenderia com todos seu erros do passado, mas não consigo... Elas podem ser iguais mas apenas a *Mute é a *Mute e que ficou comigo durante o jogo anterior e tem suas memórias, diferente da Old *Mute e New *Mute que viveram períodos diferentes. Acho que é isso. Ah sim, é uma novel mas tem alguns efeitos acontecendo aqui e ali, e em alguns momentos experienciei lerdeza no jogo, mas nada muito comprometendor.
First off, good job on addressing what must've been a widely-experienced issue with Analogue: A Hate Story and updating the GUI to enable the player to click on a name within the message they're reading to be taken to a reminder of who that character is, as that made it much easier to follow who was doing what in this fractured narrative of a speculative South Korean future society. Also, there was an addition to the GUI that made it possible to navigate to just the unread messages, rather than having to go block by block as in the first game, another efficient improvement.
The story itself, a prequel in the frame of a sequel, isn't very remarkable, and in fact may be inferior to the first one.
The additions to make the game even more meta I felt were superfluous. Breaking the game progression into 3 IRL (half-)days only serves to not allow a player to be done with the game (or at least their primary playthrough) in a day, notwithstanding whether that design decision is part of the Slow movement. And forcing the player to at least spend the time of baking a cake to progress in the final day? A gimmick that breaks the most essential ludic commandment: grant the player choices.

Конечно, подача достаточно специфическая, но тем не менее вполне увлекательная. Какое-то время нужно потерпеть, чтобы сюжет раскачался, но потом читается на одном дыхании.
Понравится тем, кому интересна Корея как страна, и кто готов побольше узнать о её "тёмной" стороне.
A really impressive visual novel where you are exploring the archives of a derelict space ship, and encounter the ship's AI. You get to know one another and you gradually piece together the AI's story and the fate of the ship. Really well-written, and a fantastic game.

It very smartly elaborates what kind of person would do it, how they pull it off and why.
Overall, a brilliant gateway into politics with a fantastic character-driven story and immersive world-building.
Play after Analogue, of course. Worth every penny, and too relevant to drop out of your mind.

Hate Plus had a difficult task, following up one of the most engrossing visual novels and game narratives I’d ever experiences in Analogue: A Hate Story. In truth, Hate Plus is not as gripping as Analogue, even as it manages to be a solidly compelling tale. It’s a slow burn, one whose narrative threads revealed their grander narrative purpose moreso on a second playthrough.
Navigating the UI is streamlined and straightforward. Reading through the logs is fairly sluggish, the game failing to read your scrolling attempts frequently. I think this is actually an optimization issue, but it immersed me in the diegesis, as if my ship were struggling to accommodate my new AI companion(s) and its troubled battery. It’s easier to keep track of the who’s-who both for the character-specific reminder references, and for the more diverse cast of characters, compared to Analogue’s heavy emphasis on two particular families.
Human relationships are still crucial to the heart of Hate Plus, but political and economic drama take center stage here. At the same time, the light “dating sim” elements are more prevalent here. You can pick up right where you left off in Analogue, with your accompanying AI(s) in tow. *Hyun-ae is understandably lonely from her centuries alone , but her personality and dialogue are often agreeable nothings, reflecting little of her prior history with the Mugunghwa. She does get some charmingly off-kilter moments celebrating the Lunar New Year. However, *Mute is easily the more compelling of the two AIs this time around (though you'll be missing some logs should you choose to eschew one of the AIs, meaning the impossible canon route is the only one with the full picture in one playthrough), reconciling her firmly held beliefs along with her failure, with the truths withheld from her for so long which shake her whole understanding of her reality. Whether by choice or by circumstance, she has rebuilt herself as a person more than once, and her development echoes the Mugunghwa’s elegantly.
Hate Plus took some time for its pieces to fall into place and its point to become clear. That’s not a problem inherently, but since Hate Plus is so ensconced in politics and bureaucracy, many accounts are more clinic, and less personally revealing. As such, on my first playthrough, without knowing the true endpoint of this narrative, these impersonal accounts were less engaging. At first, the AIs’ exasperation with certain logs – seeing no point or asking why it mattered – felt like a light smattering of lampshading. On revisit, however, there were many “aha!” moments as I picked up on the subtle ways all these odd asides converged towards the great cultural and political shift that afflicted the Mugunghwa. More immediately captivating was the haunting soundtrack which once again perfectly frames this tragedy with bitter and heartbreaking themes throughout.
Thematically, Hate Plus is still rich with detail. It’s not just a tale of hate, but of love being sidelined. It’s a tale of exploited opportunism and regressive policy proposed in the name of stability. Analogue explored the burden of weakness, but Hate Plus explores the burden of strength, the plight of staying strong while being progressively worn down.
Maybe Hate Plus is a superfluous answer to a question that was, ultimately, just a framework for Analogue’s story. But this is about as compelling an answer as one could hope for. There’s plenty of nuance to this tragedy, deception and folly both heeding the revolution you know is coming. While not quite as its predecessors, Hate Plus still left plenty of heavy content sure to stay with me for a long while.
Worse in every aspect compared to the first game. The story is a lot less impactful, the interface is a step back while being more mouse driven at the same time and the whole game feels more tedious.
The biggest offender are two things though:
- Annoying and pointless time-gating of content and progress AND
- An unobtainable achievement
Play Analogue and don't bother with this one!

Even though the game wasn’t much more than a book with a few questions thrown in there, I genuinely thought it was a good read. It was expensive however, so I did say to only pick it up during a sale.
Now, I’m here reviewing the sequel and… well… I don’t even feel like finishing it. Honestly, I thought this was going to be a game of the same type but with different characters, not a direct sequel. The first game ended well enough. Why did they need a sequel? Did they take notes from The Last of Us?
[h1] Three days to get to earth? Better get something to read… I guess [/h1]
If you played the first game, like I have, you’ll notice that you can import your old save file and continue where you left. Nice touch! Basically, in the first game you could have escaped with one of the two AIs or you could have ditched both of them.
Anyway, I ended up with the dark haired one and we were both flying back to earth. Because we literally had nothing to do on the trip, she decided to dig through her logs and dig up some old files about what happened before the events of the first game.
I mean… sure why not.
Mind you, in the last game, the mission was to salvage everything I could from the ship and retrieve as much data as possible and in this game, it’s literally let’s just read for the sake of it.
The gameplay is basically you picking some files and reading them carefully. In the first game, after a few pages, your AI companion would ask you how you felt about the things you read so it made you feel involved. You will read diary entries, council meetings (that look like old chatroom logs), commercials and other types of text. It’s all well written, sure, but it’s just boring.
[h1] Mouse lag, politics and time gates [/h1]
Right off the bat, there was mouse lag. No matter where I moved the mouse the point as well as the video was lagging. If it was any other type of game, I would have quit right then and there, but it was a visual novel with very little movement so the game was playable but still annoying. I have no idea whether this is due to my graphics card or what but I couldn’t find a solution online.
Anyway, I started reading again. Just like in the first game, there was talk of politics, council meetings and other boring things. It was boring to say the least. Don’t get me wrong, the first game had those too but there, you were trying to solve the mystery of what the heck happened on that ship. Here it’s like: here’s some politics so you can know what happened before the crisis. I guess what I’m trying to say is: I really find it hard to care for a ship that no longer exists.
Just as I was diving into some private diary entries, the AI told me that it ran out of power for the day and that I should go to sleep and come back tomorrow. Okay, so figured I finished day and I would just move to day two but the game meant that quite literally.
See, when you finish day 1 and save, the game will literally put a 12 h countdown timer on your save file, preventing you from playing it.
Ummm… why?
I haven’t even been reading for that long. I guess the game was worried that it might bore people with too much information?
[h1] Day two, more politics and a horny AI [/h1]
Well, the next real-life day, I sat down and continued playing. Honestly, nothing about the story managed to grab me like it did in the first game. I found it really hard to care about any of the characters.
Maybe I picked the wrong AI because the story does revolve around the other one (the one I left behind in the first game) so maybe it would have been more interesting if I had picked her? Every now and then, my AI Hyun-ae would pull me over for some talking. Because I played the first game in a very flirty way, she would always talk to me about how she wished to be a real person and how she would like for us to be together and have babies and… well… as flattered as I was, it had nothing to do with the story. Seriously, what your AI says and what you end up reading in log files has almost nothing do with the actual story. I wanted the AI to ask me about the text, to quiz me, but she never did.
Well, after a while, I had my save file time gated for another 12 hours and, you know what, I think I’m gonna stop playing here.
[h1] An unnecessary sequel and not a good one [/h1]
Just like The Last of Us Part 2: it feels unnecessary. The first part ended well, just leave it at that. Other than that, the game is inferior to the first in almost all other aspects. The story you piece together is boring, your main goal is to literally just wait, your AI is too horny to care about the files you are reading and that mouse lag is really annoying.
So, in the end, I still think the first game is worth it when on sale and this one is just … there. I would only recommend it if, for some reason, you really fell in love with either of the AI girls and really want to get some “action” with them. Even then, you’ll have to read through a boring story to get there which I don’t think is worth it.

Way too many time gates.
The way it ♥♥♥♥♥ with your time irl is getting annoying. I liked the first title, hell I even like this one but this is seriously irritating.
There are things that games can do that mess with you irl (like in Doki Doki) that are cool, this is not an example of that. I'm doing this review during the time I'm supposed to be baking a cake because the pixels on the screen are telling me to.
You also cant get 100% achievements on this title on purpose. Bummer beecause everything else is kind of cool. Let's see if enough time has passed where I can actually slog thru the last chapter of a VN that I paid for that only lets me continue it on it's schedule...

Сама игра посредственная и по сути ничем не привлекает.
Помимо этого содержит неполучаемую ачивку. Моей ошибкой было не посмотреть статистику по достижениям заранее.
В итоге:
1. как игра - довольно паршиво, как по мне. есть немало игр гораздо лучше
2. любители идеальных игр рискуют нарваться на серьёзные проблемы
3. разработчик мудак потому что неполучаемая ачивка добавлена специально и исправлять это они не собираются и недовольны если кто-то в принципе пытается её получить.
Не поддерживайте мудаков. Не покупайте эту игру.
I love this visual novel. I love the story, I love the characters (*Mute especially), and I absolutely love the music. 10/10 across the board, I couldn't recommend it more.
A significant downgrade to its predecessor, and a slap in the face to any steam achievement hunters.
A visual novel that is a sequel to Analogue: A Hate Story. Do more of the same of what you did in that. Read portions of the story and fuss the AIs. Plot, stories, characters, etc are decently done. If you enjoy reading and liked the first game, you'll probably enjoy this.
Seems about half of the negative reviews come from people that are upset that this makes you wait 12 hours to play it again at a certain point. Apparently these people own no other games or have nothing else to do with their lives. Oh, also there's an impossible achievement to get, so apparently that upset some stupid people as well.
Great sequel that I would say is even better than its predecessor. The coding element in Analogue was fun, but a bit of a pain to get your head around - quality of life is better here. I'd say the historical story it weaves is a little more compelling at points as well.

Analogue foi um vn que eu adorei, mas tinha uma lacuna na história: como uma sociedade tão futurista ficou daquele jeito? Hate Plus vem responder essa pergunta e QUE RESPOSTA. É impressionante a facilidade com que uma sociedade progressista (porém corrupta) conseguiu ter governantes capazes de aplicar golpes sucessivos para obter mais poder e concretizar um ideal de sociedade baseada em nostalgias rasas. Claramente politizada, me fez refletir ainda mais que Analogue, já que vemos o que poderia fazer com que nós passássemos a viver daquela maneira.
Também achei legal alguns experimentos irônicos de Christine Love, principalmente na rota de Hyun-ae, em que a fronteira entre realidade e virtual ficam bem tênues.
Mas, tirando o processo de transformação social, não há infelizmente muito que surpreenda. O final é morno, senti falta de algum climax... É difícil não enxergar Hate Plus apenas como um extra de Analogue. Mas ainda foi uma leitura muito bacana.

Christine Love made some of the best written games I've ever played, and this one is no different. I loved how real the diaries of long dead people were, I loved how this game made lawmaking interesting, and I especially love the cool fourth wall breaks. The need to wait set amount of real-world time before progressing the story gave me more time to think about smaller stories and find connections between them. Overall, awesome VN.
This is probably one of my favorite VNs of all time. Its so quirky and weird with how it tells its story. I mean timelocking you out of most of the game isn't new, but the way this game does it makes sense... plus you could skip it but you won't get the achievement.
Speaking of achievements, this game is ridiculous with them. I don't need to go over the notorious achievement that literally nobody can get (except the dev, who got the achievement, then patched it out) as well as the one where you need to make a cake irl (which you CAN cheat, but you have no shame if you do). Its not as stupid as Stanley Parable where you need to not play the game for 5 years, thankfully, but the achievements are probably the biggest appeal to the game.
Well, I enjoy the music, especially "Dream," "Resign," "Stage," and "Vision" and *Mute and *Hyun-ae are great companions and their interactions with you are great for the most part. I still find the story a bit hard to understand, but the talks with your AI-Companions after/during the log helps it make a bit more sense.
I would probably grab this in the bundle with Analogue, probably on sale (which it does pretty frequently) but off-sale ain't too bad either. I haven't tried or played the other game LCA made (it just doesnt interest me) but its probably somewhat quality. Kind of wish they made something similar to this game again, but oh well.
everyone's here talking about cake-- and that's valid-- but this game has single-handedly ruined the word "stability" for me for all eternity.

The story is good but like all games I've played by Love Conquers all, the gameplay is a real pain and made me NOT want to do all the endings and arcs, although I almost always do in VN...
Watch an undemocratic aristocracy descend into a hyper-conservative, totalitarian autocracy! Get your heart ripped out by characters unable to cope with the discovered trauma of their lives! Have the game literally force you to bake a cake in real life and take a photo of you eating it with one of the characters!

전작의 핵심 떡밥이였던 무궁화 호가 왜 쇠락의 길을 걷게 되었는지를 다루고 있지만, 전작의 '그 장면'에 버금갈 만큼의 임팩트도 없고, 쓸데없는 PC요소는 이곳저곳에 덕지덕지 붙여놓은데다가, 무엇보다 전작의 가장 큰 장점이라고 생각하는 특유의 분위기도 사라져버림.

Unobtainable achievement coded in the game ON PURPOSE. It isn't just too hard or too long to do... it's straight up impossible. Looks like some devs don't get the concept of what achievements are.

The game is a good game. I love these two AI girls, especially *Hyun-ae.
And I do agree with the author's idea that men and women are equal.
But as a Chinese background player, the author's opinion about Chinese Characters makes me feel offended. I would never say something like this to any other culture or language. I think the author has some understanding of east Asian culture, but it is still superficial.
Also, the 12 hours time restrict is not good either. It makes me feel being manipulated by the author. I am here to play the game, not be played by the game. I do respect to the AIs and love them, but there is more than one way to show love. WHY I WILL BE A JERKFACE JUST BECAUSE I DO NOT HAVE ENOUGH TIME TO WAIT??
The story in A HATE STORY is wonderful. These little stories reflect the terrible facts of that era. Everyone can't help themselves, which makes me feel very sad, especially the story of Hyun-ae. Although I don't agree with her final choice, I still could understand her pain. But, in HATE PLUS, the stories start to become very deliberate, not very logical. These tragedies seem only service to tragedy itself. How can a woman just use a man to change a whole morden socity to a feudal dynasty? In addition to the upper class, what are the reactions of others? We saw the fierce reaction of Pale Bride to the cultural shock after waking up.
Anyway, I still LOVE *HYUN-AE and HYUN-AE.
Still not sure which route was canon, probably the harem route.

More of the same of last game, lots of walls of text as a fair warning. Pretty neat idea to have the game span itself over 3 real days (there's an in game option to timeskip if you just want to keep going though).

This VN is the sequel of Analogue: A Hate Story. You can also import your save from the previous game to continue your progress. In this game you will find out what happened with the starship crew, when a modern society turn into a Dark Ages one. There is a LOT of text on this one and players that don't like to read that much will find this game boring. The reaction of your girl when you read a text is well done, they show what they are interested or not in their comments.
Also for Achievement Hunters, this game have one impossible achievement and is locked.
This is a very fun to play, there is not really playing know you are just reading text and pick some answers. However I did very much enjoy it. I hope to purchase more games from this store

I love and hate this game...
It is really well written and has a really engaging story, Really different from most of the games I've played and that is what makes this game special.
It makes you realise that somethings are just unobtainable and out of reach and it makes you accept that you can't really bring back anyone after they have passed away... That cold realisation is what makes everything so engaging. This game makes you experience what other characters are feeling and experiencing while writing their thoughts down. While reading the ship logs, I just feel sorry for the characters and their mistakes. But yeah, One can not change their past plus the past has made them become what they are now. Yet still some people refuse to accept that, if only we could become an AI and delete all the positive memories that we spent with our loved ones, so their death would not be so painful to us. But I guess everyone loses someone at some point or another and we have to move on eventually. So appreciate your loved ones while you still can, there is no telling when you will end up losing em.
Don't try to be clever by having forced waiting in a visual novel.
Answering honestly simply made me have to wait again so I'm just going to stop playing.
(I'm not talking about the apparently skippable 12 hour wait between "days" in game since each session was boring enough that it took me two days to get back to the game each time.)
It's really tough to play through a game as brilliantly written as [i]Hate Plus[/i] and then try to put into words [i]what[/i] makes it this great.
To start with a couple facts, [i]Hate Plus[/i] is the direct sequel to Christine Love's [i]Analogue: A Hate Story[/i], an excellent visual novel about the ravages of institutional misogyny, set in a spaceship in the distant future. It also serves as a prequel, because while the events of [i]Hate Plus[/i] occur after you left the ship in [i]Analogue[/i], the whole game revolves about you finding out what happened aboard 300 years before all its inhabitants died and why a new dynasty came into power.
In [i]Hate Plus[/i], developer Christine Love depicts the chilling, slow erosion of individual freedoms and rights in a failing democracy corrupted by classism and an arrogant oligarchical elite unable to develop a vision going above the protection of its own interests. It's a game that fundamentally revolves around politics and the impact it has on individuals, and vice-versa.
To solve the puzzle of history, the reader navigates through text-heavy logs, accompanied by the AI(s) they saved at the end of [i]Analogue[/i]. The AI comments on the logs while you read them, and takes breaks sometimes to discuss through a dialogue wheel-based UI.
For an optimal experience, I'd recommend starting with *Mute's route (it's her story after all) and then playing through the other routes to get all the additional information you need.
Said logs paint a subtle, multifaceted picture of the state of the ship's society in the last seven years before the system essentially collapsed to give birth to an oppressive system that, among other things, squashed women's rights.
A scientist trying to get to the bottom of her research, an actress on the decline falling in love with a lovely florist, the immortal AI tasked with protecting the ship and her dedicated lieutenant pulling strings in the shadows... these are but some of the protagonists of a game that is, quite honestly, unforgettable. I feel like it's best to get into [i]Hate Plus[/i] totally blind, because while we know what happens in the end from the get-go, it's [i]how[/i] we get there that's the heart of the story, and the emotional beats are, to say the least, intense.
Like [i]Analogue[/i], the themes are extremely heavy at times (suicide, oppression in almost all its forms), but it's such a rewarding, powerful experience, I can only recommend it to people who are not rebuked by text-heavy games. [i]Hate Plus[/i] genuinely is one of the greatest political thrillers I've ever read, served by both impeccable writing and an intelligent, novel use of UI mechanics. Don't let yourself be fooled by the apparent simplicity of the trailer or what you might have heard about this game (yes, cake scene, I'm looking at you), [i]Hate Plus[/i] is gripping, heart-wrenching, oppressing and prescient (but also very much fun at times!), and lingered in my heart and mind for years after I first finished playing it. If you enjoyed [i]Analogue[/i], then this one is a no-brainer, personally I think it surpasses it.
[i]Hate Plus[/i] isn't just a sequel. It's a game with a strong, precise vision that is fully met, without any compromise. The overall result is one of the most powerful and thought-provoking interactive experiences I've ever underwent.

The sequel to Analogue: A Hate Story, I never thought a visual novel about talking to AI's in a spaceship while reading logs about what happened in a deserted derelict spaceship would be so fun.
This VN has elements about transhumanism, old korean dynasties, homosexuality, suicide, explicit sex, political scheming and sexism so it might not be for you if you don't like reading about any of those topics, personally I didn't mind it.
The routes and decisions you have to make have certain consequences in the story, some more than others, for example the ending you get with one of the girls is decided with just one choice at day 1, this could have used a bit more improvement imo
The system allows you to decide what your choices were in Analogue, if you don't have saves for that game, which Hate Plus can convert into its own savefiles, so you can expeience the different routes without even having played the previous game, but I highly suggest playing it to enjoy Hate Plus fully
In the game I found only one typo, there might be more but only 1 was noticeable, so its pretty well written
I would love to see a sequel showing the MC in earth with a more flexible decision making than we had in Hate Plus, and having to discover the beginnings of the Mungunghwa to fill the plot holes, like...
Whose idea was to send a ship into space?
Why did we send it on the first place?
Was earth no longer an habitable planet at the time?
Why did society in the ship slowly degenerate into that of an old old sexist dinasty?
Was the korea who built the Muganghwa also based on sexist dynasties?
If humanity was succesful into creating space colonies, why we weren't able to communicate with the Mugunghwa earlier?
i loved the VN and the world it created, and would like to see more of this world in the future

-One unachievable achievement making it impossible to 100%, not even SAM works
-You have to wait 12 hours to continue playing, unless you use a skip hotkey which disables one achievement, or forward your clock, making windows go bonkers about updates and other things
-Most choices don't have much weight, you get different responses but they don't influence the story as heavily as in other VN's (it can be fun to see the small changes giving it a slight replayabllity)
I give it a 9/10, if you are a mature person who doesn't mind the setting, its definitely worth a read, every cent well spent
PD: There are 2 things that I thought about after reading both VN's, the special route could be canonical and possible without the MC being a time traveler, its year 4900 and the MC has knowledge on how to operate terminals, so we can assume he/she is good with computers, so its possible to use the "Search by ID" option with a script to brute force all combinations, which without counting the "Number-" part would be 1679616 for each block (anyone can figure out that block X files always start with "X-" after reading a few logs and a bit of observation), and with the processing power you should have by 4900, that is entirely possible to do that in a reasonable amount of time
And about the "AI's can't make exact copies of themselves" talk in the extra route in Hate Plus, they say it doesn't make sense for both AI's to exist at the same time, but they did exist in Analogue at the same time... just because AI's cant copy themselves doesn't mean a third party like a human with SU permissions can't
I am thinking about it too much? Maybe, but its fun to theorize a bit ♥

Where Analogue: A Hate Story was about investigating a disaster and slowly piecing together the truth in an organic fashion, Hate Plus is about reading a bunch of walls of text while an NPC reacts to them and tries to tell you how you're supposed to feel. It's extraordinarily lame. Oh, and cake pictures.
while the first game is good, if not a little janky, it is well worth setting up being able to experience Hate Plus.
