Alla guida di una corporazione mineraria il nostro scopo è fondare colonie su asteroidi vaganti insieme ad una o più culture aliene in un settore inesplorato. Oltre la crescita e la gestione delle colonie dovremmo fare attenzione al commercio con la federazione/alieni/mercanti, gli scontri con altri asteroidi, il ramo militare e quello diplomatico. Un profondo strategico spaziale che ci fornisce un ampio numero di opzioni e tecnologie, senza dimenticare lo spionaggio e il sabotaggio, incredibilmente costoso ma efficiente. Ho trovato questa versione stabile senza mai un crash (rispetto a quella degli anni 90). Il gioco è molto lento, la crescita e la fondazione di nuove colonie avviene lentamente e può essere spazzata via in un secondo da una pioggia di missili o da navette aliene che colpiscono i centri nevralgici facendo "morire" la colonia, purtroppo in FA vige la cultura di chi colpisce prima colpisce due volte o anche tre, tenete sempre d'occhio la scadenza dei patti di non belligeranza.

Fragile Alliance is a true strategy classic from my childhood, and replaying it still feels special. The gameplay is deep, demanding, and rewards careful planning rather than quick reactions. Every decision matters, and the underlying systems give the game a level of complexity that keeps you engaged long after the first few sessions. It may look simple on the surface, but mastering it takes time and thought. A timeless strategy experience — love.

A very old game with a sharp corporate criticism and high stakes, fast RTS rife with needless micromanagement and too much sliding menus.

It is good, but is an acquired taste for new generation. Every time you need to build a building, opening a menu is...unpleasant.

Extremely luck based as well, you need money to do anything, either by having a lot of colonists on standby (maybe the company pays you to work them in idle things?) or selling ore (most of time), but the sheer crazy high speed glass cannon ship duels are...nice. The newer generations won't enjoy this because the game is made with boomer mentality on mind, for good OR bad.

You plan ages ago, pay a lot and have very high risk but high yield return.

One game can have you land a rich asteroid belt, the other, a very poor one. If you can trade, you can buy and sell goods as they fluctuate in peacetime. But that cash could go for more military industrial complex weapons, don't you think?

Positioning and everything is so random, you may enjoy it if you don't mind the menu chip board slide sound with every decision.

Worked fine for 2-3 hours, now it crashes either on startup or after a few minutes playing with a DOS 4GW error. Also it claims I have played for 14 hours which is not possible. I purchased it at 9:30 pm yesterday, played 2-3 hours and quit. Something apparently continued to run and ran up my time after I exited it so I can't get a refund now. At least I got it on sale.

As for the game itself (as much as I could experience in limited time), it's okay, kind of tedious with no hotkeys, forcing you to use the mouse for everything.

a old school game way ahead of its time there is a whole market where price changes over seasons for buying, selling, and trading. It may take a lil time knowing how to play and understand but once use to it it is very easy to play. I wish someone would mod and keep it old school just add a few more ores and air crafts etc. Overall great game!!!!!!!

AI colony managers are pretty bad. Game is becomes impossible since it can't be paused and managed and there are just too many things to do - not fun things though - mostly tedious management of many many planets.

Essentially the game loop is to colonize a planet, build a couple of buildings to manage population needs, and for mining (really boring, zero depth to this system), and somehow sell the mined resources. Once you're done with a planet the buildings just stay there and there's not much to do with the planet. So now to generate income you have to keep colonizing new planets, which means you have many planets to manage (i.e. build the same thing over and over again) and ship the mined resources back to some home planet for sale. The interfaces are 90's bad (i.e. zero QOL for things you do 90% of the time), which was reasonable 30 years ago, not recommended for today though.

Obviously there are other tedious things to do (like simple random graph based trading of "unique resources") which you can't focus on due to every aspect of the game requiring micro management.

As someone who didn't play this game in the 90s, I wouldn't recommend it to someone who doesn't have nostalgia for this particular game.

This a true gem of the 90's. Although getting on 30 years old, by no means let that put you off cus FA's game play is quite unique in itself involving asteroids, ships, sats & missiles. The colony management is some what limited, however the ship, sat & missile control is really good. Secret agents can add diversity although notorious to all so aliens don't mind negotiating no covert operations. Colony supervisors are for hire to help you manage your asteroids. Traders come & go selling a variety of wares, medicines, illegal info gossip, ores, missiles & killer viruses. Six alien races to choose from in set scenarios or in a custom game. Again the options are limited here but can still bring on an enjoyable compelling game. The graphics & animations speak for the time but are still good.

There's still a lot more good points to mention but I could be here for a while telling you. Suffice to say, you wont be disappointed.

Me encontré con el CD original del juego en casa de mi madre. Conseguí hacer-lo funcionar pero la velocidad de juego era estratosférica. I was genuinely surprised to find this game on Steam. Fragile Allegiance is a mid-90s colony management strategy game from Gremlin Interactive. Fragile Allegiance is considered the spiritual successor to two other Gremlin games called Utopia: the creation of a nation and K240.

In today's world, Fragile Allegiance graphics look dated. Music still stands the test of time so do the game mechanics. It's a fun game if you want to take a trip down memory lane but it can get boring after a while - especially if you compare it to modern games. For the price that's currently offered it's worth a try but keep in mind that you're purchasing a retro game.

It certainly brought back memories from the days I used to spend hours upon hours on it using my IBM PC compatible 486/66!

Les graphismes ont certes vieilli mais l'interface de ce jeu reste l'une des plus simples et des plus efficaces que j'ai jamais vues...Stressant, prenant, on en redemande ... De nombreux éditeurs devraient s'en inspirer aujourd'hui mais il faut croire que l'imagination et la créativité ont déserté au profit de la gloriole et du m'as tu vu et d'une débauche de moyens somme toute du gaspillage éhonté vu les résultats.

Twenty some years after its debut there's still no game like Fragile Allegiance. It is unique, for better or worse, and if you let it, it will drag you into a space strategy adventure that could challenge even the most astute RTS Gamers.

You start off as the brand new franchise manager for the Tetra-Corp mining company. You start with some money and an asteroid full of minerals to mine. Sounds straightforward at first - build habitats for miners, build mines. Provide facilities that generate power, food, air and water. Provide pleasure domes and security centers to keep your miners in line with both sticks and carrots.
City-builder? not at all. In fact, getting an asteroid mining colony up and self-sufficient is rather simple once you've done it enough times. Sure, there are certain challenges (like the fact that Residential blocks raise the pop capacity by either 50 or 150 while Air and Water generators generate 400 of each and food generator generates 300 - and trying to meet everyone at the lowest common denominator [1200] will give you way too many miners to keep happy).
But space is big and the minerals on the one asteroid you started with are limited. There's plenty of other asteroids. so on you go to build sensor towers, a shipyard that can produce scoutships and small fighters. You explore new asteroids and colonize them. Rinse and repeat? Yes and no. Mostly no. Asteroids are in motion, They may very well be on collision course with other asteroids. Some are rich with expensive minerals, others bare rocks. Distance between asteroids and their drift may in time turn colonies too far from one another.

And then come the Aliens - the trade-happy Acheans, who would probably sell their own mom for the right price (and they probably have a price list for Achean mothers somewhere), the honorable Braccatians (don't ask them about the Kolus cheese though), the engmatic Mikotaj and the utterly murderous Mauna... and they're all around, vying for asteroids and minerals, sometimes willing to work with you, often trying to kill you. That's OK because you can kill them too. Build warships, buy technologies that allow you to field large battleships and build missiles capable of vaporizing entire asteroids in underground missile silos...

all the while you need to balance the use of minerals for the purpose of building ships and missiles with the selling of minerals for the purpose of making, you know, money... exchange trade goods at the age-old buy-low-sell-high method (just please, for the love of all that is holy, don't try to make a profit by selling the Bracattians their own Kolus cheese. Trust me on that.). Employ agents to spy and discreetly sabotage the opposition (even delivering Anti-Personnel Virus weapons).
All of this happens while your ever expanding list of asteroid colonies demand your attention for anything from loss of power supply to the outbreak of Spacer's Salmonella.

and all of that is done in a real-time game that has a deceptively fast passage of time. The game's menu offers three time passage and speeds and also the ability to have time paused while you are in menus (highly recommended for your first playthrough at least). Even on the slowest speed setting, the game can rapidly spiral out of control otherwise.

There's lots to do in this game and the layers and layers of complexity - without bogging players down with tedious micromanagement - make it a game that's worth playing again and again, even though it's now 22 years old (or thereabout).

Graphics are dated but not unpleasant even now. Sound's pretty minimal. There's little to no plot but the game needs a plot about as much as Detroit: Become Human needs a Multiplayer mode.

An excellent Base Building RTS, nothing like it has ever been made, at least I don't think there has. If you have trouble with DOSBOX, you can tweak the Dosbox config file in the game files under steamapps, by changing the number of cycles to 70000, so that Cycles=70000, cos sometimes you get stack overflow errors crashing you out to windows. Also you can tweak the resolution in the same file, by changing output to opengl (output=opengl) or setting the resolution to desktop...and so on.

A bit about gameplay. If you annoy your neighbours, by placing spy satellites around their asteroids, they will discover them and attack you. So it behooves you to build your asteroid's defences, and invest in ScitTech blueprints for better weapons and defences. Also, getting blueprints for better ships is also important. The more ore you sell to the Corporation the better, so colonise as many asteroids as possible, but remember to use gravity nullifiers and asteroid engines on them, so they don't collide with one another.

Overall, I rate this as one of the best little games ever made, and I give it 4 .5 out of 5 rubber horseshoes.

This game is one I grew up on. I've spent so many hours on it. There is just so much detail, so much to do, so many ways to play. I must have learnt the intricacies of economy and buying&selling from this game! Hats off to the guys behind this masterpiece. If Steam existed when this game was released I'm sure that I would have "over 9000" hours in this game.

That said, this is the British regional version of the game. What that means is. . .

++ The AI hits harder, much harder, even in a Neutral Atmosphere (normal difficulty) game. Which raises the replay value for anyone with the American version.
+- The irradiated sap on the load screen, which is a negative to me.

In the American version:
A double click would actually open an info screen, instead of having to click the corresponding icon to open a menu
Shortcut keys. Yes shortcut keys for the menus.
I miss the commas 45,348,131 becomes 45348131 which is annoying to count the digits.

Fragile Allegiance is on Steam and nobody told me?

This game is probably THE best space 4X game I know and have yet to find a game that does this as well. Despite its age this game is still perfectly playable it seems due to DOSbox. This game is just that bit different to the more traditional space 4X games. In this game you do not manage a space empire but a branch of a mining mega-corporation called Tetracorp. You do not colonize planets but instead build mining colonies on Astroids in a place called The Fragmented Sector.

It gets really interesting once you get the basics done and you get some techs to make your Astroids move around the map and face of with the other alien races which are supposedly part of the same federation everyone sells their ore to. You can turn your Astroid colonies into fully armed battlestroids with defenses, fleets of ships and most importantly a deadly arsenal of various missiles. When you get in range you can send them flying to the enemy astroid and it gets really funny if you mix in a few nuclear missiles in your barrage of cheap explosive missiles, or when you sneak in a stasis missile and then once it worn of all missiles that have been waiting strike at once carpet bombing the entire astroid.

This game is also has agents you can send to spy on your enemies, learn their secrets or deliver illegal virus or bombs to their colonies. You can even complain to the federal minister of trade that one of your fellow federation members is conducting secret trades with a race called Mauna that is not part of the federation.

All alien races have their own unique buildings that work just slightly differently than yours, though sadly the game does not offer the option to play with them, that would have been the icing of the cake.

I May be biased since I spend a lot of hours when I was young playing this game. But seeing how it still can be played and still looks fine considering its age makes me very happy. I think this is one of my favorite games of all time, rivalling Half-Life and XCom.

One of the best strategic and exploration building games i ever played also first game that i overheated my first pc on cause i played for hours and hours . 10/10
For anyone who want challenge in all aspects of game . I reccomend fastest + no saves+ aggresive athmosphere.
I won whole game twice on that and its incredibly hard but also engaging .

I hope this game get some new adaptation + more aggro races like mauna all other remain same.
- ofc AI would need some upgrade too but they are roleplaying very well .
- after many gameplays there are still things that u can learn in this game.

Rule number one ARTEMIA must be dealth with to last planet those bugs dont give up easily even mega your planets.

Still hoping for remaster or remake 2018 :)

simple and sweet little settlement builder with the extra of aliens ( plus nukes ) worth a buy

Dozens of hours spent, thousands of ships built, small fleets of interceptors, heavy fleets of the biggest cruisers and battleships, Death Star built. Great game, absolutely universal, even didnt get old after all those years. Quite easy to play and includes so many aspects - diplomacy, trade, Construction - of buildings/colonies and spacecrafts in various configurations that we can call "our own", waging the war with many means, spying. I even played it 2 years ago via Dosbox lan with my friends - its still possible. Game with soul. Masterpiece 10/10.

1 of the first games i played on pc. Till this day i still come back and play it.

Build your asteroid base. Mine minerals. Use those minerals to build ships and missiles or sell them for money. Purchase new technology. Expand into other asteroids to get more minerals. Encounter an alien race. Send missiles and fleets at them because they colonized the asteroid you wanted. Watch as the enemy asteroid starts running away from you. Build an asteroid engine and pursue them. Meet more alien races. Start wars with them too. Watch missiles being thrown at everyone. Suicide your asteroids to destroy your enemies. Sneak some mega missiles and watch the asteroids vanish from existence. Laugh as the entire sector is yours now.

A random passing by astroid hits yours and you lose all your ♥♥♥♥ early on and have to start over.

Still doing my daily prayers for a remake..

I cant give this game a lengthy review, because you should just buy it and experience the nostalgia.

Runs fine on my Win 10 PC. I spent hours and hours....and hours and hours playing this game via the CD, which i still have however its scratched (thanks son). But still another £4 was nothing for this awesome game.

Build an asteroid.
Colonise and build more asteroids.
Deplete them of resources whilst building a military.
Colonise more asteroids and deplete them of resources.
Build a missle Asteroid with engines.
Annihilate every other faction on the map.
Use the start up cheats if you want a LOL-fest xD

Theres more too it with traders, agents (subterfuge), asteroid managers, selling ore to either your boss or afformentioned traders. But its more about the pew and getting those Maunid's!

This game realy does stand the test of time and still offers excellent gameplay and a awesome story, I was so glad when this ran straight out the box and I could relive my days in the fragmented sector. They shouldn't of remade starcraft, this is what they should of redone, leaving all the gameplay elements in tact just with updated graphics and networking(maybe a super huge map type with 32 players or more :D). Anyone who enjoys a good challenge from there RTS should give this a try!

I played this old game allot back in the day.
You play the game as a kind of Asteroide manager who are responsible for mining resources for your race.
You fast find out you are not alone and you need defences and then you build up your own fleet of ships and missile defences.. The basic defence is not that good, so lucky you can upgrade everything by ordering new technology that will be delivered with a trade ship now and then.. You can pay either via. your "taxes" or you can trade your mine resources and get paid that way.
The game is about "domination" of the asteroids and resources in the area. All asteroids do not have the same amout of resrouces, and some have rare resources that are work allot of money. Either trade for profit or use these special materials to build nuclear missiles that can kill everything on an asteroide.
Only question is, do you feel "lucky" . The enemy have missiles defences, so you better fire everything you got and hope your very expensive killer missile is successfull. ;-)

Pro tip..: if you have a really tough enemy and not enough planes or missiles to kill their home base... Then put asteroid engines on one of your asteroides and make it hit the enemy asteroide... ;-)
( to move your asteroide turn off the "gravity generator" that "lock" your asteroide in place so it do not drift, els you cannot move your asteroide with engines ).

Little story lesson about the game... I started playing k240 and later on fragile alliance where released but the two games had much in common.

K240 was succeeded by Fragile Allegiance, which is essentially a PC remake of the game but with improved graphics and user interface. Many of the buildings, ships, missiles, and game concepts are the same. However, the Human Empire is dissolved in a coup, and united with several alien races in a multiracial Federation. There are also gameplay differences resulting from ships being given limited range as well as espionage.

I wish this actually worked as I loved it as a kid. Utopia / K240 evolved. Sadly, on my Windows 7 PC it seems bugged and won't run. Like so many DOSBox ported old games on Steam...

A very nice take at mining resource manager. Not unique in itself, but indeed an achievement.
Difficulty-wise - it sits between outpost (original one, not godawful sequel) and industry giant 2.
The thing is - it's not as difficult as outpost. It's more on par with alien legacy or reunion, albeit doesn't have exploration element of alien legacy, or gorgeous in-between cutscenes of reunion.
It doesn't even has a story to speak of either.

You are one of the executives (of mining division) of a corporation which does space mining. Objective is to balance resources and money between selling resources, building ships, maintaining your colonies and, if the allegiance breaks, assault enemies via various means.

Core gameplay loop is satisfactory enough that you will, at the very least, get 3-6 hours out of single mission (if that mission is easy), more so out of multi-racial missions with agressors and active diplomatic routine.
There is no research system to speak of - you just pay to tech company to deliver you blueprints for better swag, which increase your performance.
The first part meat of the game is searching for new asteroids to mine, protecting them, optimizing production (mainly by buying new stuff) or staring at the stars (no, seriouisly, space'y soundtrack does give it meditative qualities); the other part of the meat is warfare. You have your standard Fighter/fighter missions, planetary bombardment, and missle command which you use to launch missles with various effects. Then there is also chemical/biological warfare, which is, in all honesty - a welcome sight, as it is usually omitted in most of the games about corporate warfare. Although it is punishing, if you use it and then get discorvered by your own federation, which will most likely execute you (i should try it to be sure).

The main beef i have with this game - is that there are no objectives side to it outside of all-out domination.
It is very open-ended indeed, and whenever you abort/end game - it will count in things you've done and score you.
It did had mutiplayer, but setting that up will probably be a pain.

Overall - I enjoyed experience, and will probably play a bit more of it. Although i still wish it would've had some sort of campaign with fixed objectives to achieve.

I had this game for years on disc, and it must be said I loved it. Now I have it on steam I find it is every bit as much fun to play as I remember. The interface is easy to learn, the game play absorbing and the replay value good. I tend to go for the "mine like a madman and turn empty roids into missile carriers" technique of local policing, but you can build bad ass fleets of ships just as easily. In some games your neighbours will be friendly, chatty types, and in others it's time to bleed from the 1st hello. The graphics may be dated, the music a bit pooh and the premise all a bit old hat but this game is damn good fun.
