Das Spiel selbst ist gut, aber der Service von Square Enix nicht so und wenn du mit diesen kommunizieren musst, mach dich bereit verarscht zu werden, weil 2 Zeilen nicht mitkopieren zuviel Arbeit für diesen ist...
Alles in allen habe ich die hälfte meiner Testzeit dadurch verloren und eine kostenlose 14 Tägige Verlängerung als ausgleich zu bekommen?
Vergiss es, du schaust in die Röhre und musst trotzdem für überschlagen 15€ pro Monat sofort abonnieren, obwohl ich nicht mal die 30 Tage nutzen konnte dank massiver Störung.
Keine Ahnung ob ich nochmal abonnieren werde, weil keine Lust erneut x-Tage nicht einloggen können und wieder nix außer verarsche vom Support zu bekommen.

Great game.
So after 3000 hours in FF-14 and being on the quest of playing all Final Fantasy Games on Steam, I finally got FF11. It´s actually a wonderful Final Fantasy but due to being old its absolutely grind heavy and of course graphic-wise outdated. But in my opinino thats giving it it´s charm. While it has received many updates, which makes progressing through the Story solo much more convenient than back in the day, it will take you probably around 300 hours to get it all done. Even way more if you are not coming for only the story.
So if you are in for a long ride, go for it. It´s an enjoyable one.
Great game but the controls/menus and the navigation are very janky, hopefully one day we get a faithful remaster/remake, this game needs it more than FFXIV. It's hard to recommend to modern gamers but it definitely has a certain magic about it, it's worth trying.
similar to WoW Classic in a way. takes forever to do anything and the quests are really vague, but i kinda love it.
very good game to chill out to and put something on a second monitor. keep in mind though its really old (even older than wow) so a lot of the convenience of modern MMOs isnt here at all. if you care about that, i wouldnt play ff11, 14 might be better if you havent played that yet.

FFXI is a classic MMO that still holds up really well. It's very rough to get into due to it's age, but once you're in it's a total blast!
I came here cause I want to beat every mainline FF game, and this is one of them.
They adjusted the game so solo play is completely possible. And it's quicker to progress then ever.
One thing I didn't expect is that this game is still pretty active. I actually managed to find a friend to grind with.
Playing either way is fine though. If you love FF or classic MMOs, definitely give this a try.
But it really is an investement. Be prepared to learn commands, use wiki etc.
I was fortunate enough to receive help which sped up the process. But learning new things isn't that hard once you get the general idea.
It's a bit difficult to really get into the game, however, it's really rewarding when you get going (assuming you're not afraid of menus). The Asura server is also surprisingly active considering the age of this game! Though I haven't tried playing with a party yet, mostly solo'd with Trusts.
If you are that type of guy to experience every FF game in the franchise its solid, coming from XIV I can appreciate some things. Sub job system is amazing fun to play with warrior that can heal no problem buddy enjoy it, paladin that is jumping around no issue. The combos are endless and quite enjoyable. But damn this game is old, pure old pre wow mmo, sometimes cbt sometimes you want to crack your own skull when playing but in the end good experience.

Gameplay: Actually a fun game. And it has a very active community.
Final Fantasy XIV (in its current state; we don't talk about 1.0) is definitely the better [i]MMO[/i], but XI remains the better [i]Final Fantasy[/i] in some intangible and hard-to-define way.
I only played it very little before this year, so I don't have any particular nostalgia for the game itself, but I have a lot of nostalgia for the PS2 era of Final Fantasy it came from, and it sits very comfortably in amongst that.
its a classic with all of the jank of its time, strongly suggest you playing with a friend or a guide.
Is a great game .. just give it a try . It is not Like FF 14 .

On a whim I saw this game on a sale and wanted to check out this very old MMO. I have seen reviews and decided to try it anyway. I had a fun experience, finished main quest and and worked on some of the expansions. I continue to play it, but recommending it? Especially this version? No. Here is why.
[u]Gameplay[/u]
In order to actually start the game and play it, try to get through the launcher. It asks for mandatory and useless information, important are three separate ID´s and a subscription that still is close to the price of modern MMO´s despite the game being done. It gets new updates, but is mostly in maintenance mode.
If you manage to do this, you have to decide. Or rather its a no brainer. Get an external program that allows you to add mods. Generally, SE does not like you to do that, but they absolutely don’t care in this game. The reason you want mods is even less about being able to optimize and customize your game but rather just to make it playable. Without mods you won’t have a minimap thus having the need to open the menu, you can’t minimize the game and being able to use steam or count gameplay time? I don’t even want to talk about that
Speaking of menu, everything is controlled via keyboard. Mouse does work but actually doesn’t. You can click on things but its very unresponsive. So, you either have to somehow setup a controller, or learn to play and customize the game using solely the keyboard. This works OK. But again, the game is absolutely not modified for being able to run on the PC. No shortcut for opening the map, missing many things that would make “sense” to have on the computer.
Let’s continue about actually playing the game. It is somewhat turn based. You move your character but in actuality this makes barely any difference. Everything you do is clunky yet satisfactory. You level up everything, from weapon skills, to levels or later on merits/masteries. Also consider playing a far stretch. You will need to own a second screen or a good phone and read every guide. 80% or more of the quests are not beatable without checking a guide. Finding the quest is easily possible through an ingame records system which is somewhat of an achievement/progress system. I can’t even start to begin how random and obscure a lot of these quest solutions are, where to go and what to do.
I absolutely despise games that request me to look into a wiki all the time in order to be able to play or finish it. The saving grace for me? The community, unique and clunky nature of the game and just having fun checking out the many bad and some decent things an old mmo has to offer. The gameplay can be very satisfactory due its many classes, playstyles and combinations you can take. But it is also very stale due to abilities taking a long time to be available. Also not helping is the camera zooming in so much that you play an mmo from the third person perspective.

I only finished the main quest which story is rather shallow. Although the expansion offers much more fleshed out plot points including an expansion that serves as an overarching story, combining a lot of previously met characters and can be played at any point.

I dont know why, but there is not a single Final Fantasy that does not have an absolutely banger OST. This one being one of the best, although no voice acting is available, not even in very important main quests.
[u]Graphics[/u]
The game for its age offers very impressive and large areas that I would have never expected a PS2 to be able to handle, especially the amount and sheer size of the world.
[u]Conclusion/TL;DR[/u]
I should like the game less than I should. But I found a very small yet awesome community, unique things to explore in a game that is completely foreign and unique to me. Additionally, the final fantasy good hallmarks with a neat story and awesome tunes to go along with. Yet due to many negatives, especially the lack of optimization for computers despite being a monthly subscription game will make the game have only a stagnating community that will drop over time. Not recommended, check it out on your own risk.

Chains of Promathia is one of the best stories in an FF game.
However that is the only reason to play this game, there is almost no people to play, game is super tedious, no respect for your time, you have to wait in game days or real time server resets to proceed with many MANY quests so your time gets wasted for no reason, it was a design choice.
Dont waste your time with this game, its too old, it has not been cared for nor put any effort to polish or to attract new players, also I have been told you could get through the story solo but there are many times you get walled and need help anyways.
Go watch the recap story on youtube, really dont waste your money and time with this one.

Contrairement à ce qui est affiché, j'ai joué à ce jeu plusieurs centaines d'heures, je ne sais pas pourquoi le décompte du temps de jeu est cassé.
Que dire sur ce FF11, car c'est un chantier important. Je crois que le mot qui le résume le mieux c'est AUSTÈRE. Je m'explique. FF11 est ancien, très ancien. Il faut rappeler qu'il est sortit avant WoW. Et WoW, malgré ses défauts, a apporté beaucoup BEAUCOUP en terme de standards pour les MMO. Des innovations de qualité de vie, des choses qui nous paraissent logique et naturelles aujourd’hui, car tous les MMO sont construits comme ça. Et bien mon cher padawan, il faut désapprendre tout ce que tu as appris... Car FF11... c'est un autre monde... c'est un de ces MMO où on te lache sans rien t'indiquer et ou TU NE PEUX PAS progresser seul. C'est impossible. Le jeu est compliqué, tortueux, abscon, fastidieux.
Ma grande chance ce fut de tomber sur un japonais avec qui j'ai sympathisé trés vite et qui m'a guider à travers mon voyage. Je te remercie Eisaburough, sans toi mon expérience du jeu aurait été bien différente.
Alors quoi, le gameplay est archaïque, les graphismes sont éculés, le jeu est une purge à avancer dans les quêtes... mais alors pourquoi diable le recommande-je ? Aurais-je perdu l'esprit, hmmm ? Et bien non, en vérité, il y'a un point, un seul point, qui rattrape tous les défauts archaïques du jeu et c'est l'histoire. l'histoire de ce jeu est exceptionnelle.
Combien de MMO auquels j'ai joué avaient des histoires tellement plates et fades que cela ne m'a pas du tout marqué...? Et c'est là ou on en reviens aux points qui font d'un jeu un bon jeu. Ils peuvent exceller sur certains aspects et pas d'autres. Concernant les MMO, je n'en ai vu aucun exceller partout. Mais certains sont sur mon podium, car ils excellent dans des domaines bien précis. SWTOR c'est sur l'aspect RPG avec des choix de dialogue et d'alignement, ainsi que sur l'histoire (parce que coté graphisme et gameplay c'est pas le top). BDO c'est bien sur les graphismes magnifiques (comme Terra) et également le gameplay (pas comme Terra).
Et FF11 c'est l'histoire. Si bien que... cela fait 3 ans que j'y ai pas joué mais... J'aimerais tellement pouvoir terminer l'histoire de ce jeu... mais la progression est tellement fastidieuse que j'ai du mal à m'y remettre... J'avais du m'arrêter à un moment et maintenant je dois retrouver le courage de m'y remettre, mais je crains que mon ami japonais ne soit plus là pour me soutenir hélas...
Je publie cette éval donc, au cas où je n'ai pas la foi pour terminer (ce qui risque d'être trés probable) et que je le désinstalle.
Pour résumer, un jeu extrêmement AUSTERE et très fastidieux, mais dont le seul point narratif, compense la totalité de ses autres défauts. Mais attention, se lancer dans cette aventure seul est quelque peu rebutant.
Lo siento muchísimo, tenía ganas de jugarlo pero es que Square Enix se ha esmerado en que se me quiten todas las ganas. Para empezar, comprarlo en Steam es una tontería porque no te contabiliza las horas, te cuenta el primer minuto y luego ya te la deja de contar. He leído que el juego lo hicieron menos hardcore, pero es que el problema es que te puedes pegar perfectamente +2 horas para hacer el registro inicial; es muy poco intuitivo y yo personalmente he tenido que meterme a las guías de Steam solo para poder llegar a hacer el registro, e incluso así era lioso. Y ya, por si fuera poco, una vez dentro del juego cada vez que tabulas se crashea. Y ya el premio se lo lleva el que encima sea de pago mensual un juego de 2002. Entiendo que los servidores no se mantienen solos, de verdad, lo entiendo, pero es que es más caro que pagar el FFXIV y encima es que no te dan ni lo básico en 2024. Chapó porque lo hicieran menos hardcore, pero había otras cosas que debían haber tocado para intentar mantener a nuevas personas que estuvieran interesadas.

[code]Final Fantasy XI is celebrating its 21st anniversary for a reason but there’s no denying that it’s also showing its age. It might still be worth a look for old-school-MMO fans but everyone else should think twice about attempting a playthrough[/code]
First of, even though this is a non-recommendation review, I want to stress that I got nothing but respect for [i]Final Fantasy XI[/i]. Not many MMOs remain online after 21 (!) years of service and are still getting new content (!!) after all those years. And considering the immense ongoing popularity of [i]Final Fantasy XI[/i]’s younger sibling MMO, [i]Final Fantasy XIV[/i], it’s even more impressive to see this 2002 MMO still being actively supported by publisher Square Enix. Sure, from all the original platforms (PC, PS2, Xbox 360) only the PC version remains online but that’s still an impressive feat. Additionally, I’m very impressed by all players remaining faithful to this game through all this time and I do wish I could’ve been a part of you. Unfortunately, I just couldn’t get into the game.
My troubles with [i]Final Fantasy XI[/i] began even before I got to play the actual game and that’s of course thanks to the needlessly long and complicated registration process others have already described. Using a [url=https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=603627745]guide such as this one[/url] does make the whole registration process easier to follow but frankly, if I need a user-made guide to get through the registration process of a game, something went very, very wrong.
After the registration process and long game download, which can only be done through the game’s launcher, I also followed many player recommendations I previously read and [url=https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/w0dx28/how_to_install_the_steam_version_of_final_fantasy/]installed Windower[/url], which can be used to quickly install various player-made addons and plug-ins for the game. Especially the minimap addon I installed proved to be a very welcome addition, significantly enhancing my game experience.
After some technical troubles involving my Xbox One controller and the UI being too small, I could finally start the game. The character creation is quite limited, such as only allowing for a few pre-made faces to be picked from, but that’s expected considering the age of [i]Final Fantasy XI[/i]. A big problem would be the world selection, however, as the game doesn’t offer any information about the player population or server location of its numerous worlds. As such, if you want to pick a more active server, you’ll have to do your research beforehand and without official resources to consult.
The first few in-game minutes of [i]Final Fantasy XI[/i] already show just how much MMOs have evolved since the 2002 release of this game. This isn’t referring to the soundtrack (which is just as great as expected from the franchise) or the graphics (which still hold up reasonably well) but the lack of a tutorial or general directions. After a short introductory cutscene and a few dialogue lines, you’re thrown into the world of Vana’diel with little idea of how things work or what to do next.
Now, there are [url=http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/intro/about/welcom.html?pageID=about]official resources[/url] as well as an excellent player-made [url=https://www.bg-wiki.com/ffxi/Quickstart_1-119_Guide]quickstart guide[/url] to help you out, the latter of which I consider absolutely essential if you want to give [i]Final Fantasy XI[/i] a try. But frankly, I didn’t have much fun constantly having to look up what to do next on my phone instead of the game telling me. And the game doesn’t tell you a lot of really important stuff - I wasn’t even told about the main story quests (“nation quests”) I’m supposed to undertake at the beginning of the game.
This is just one aspect of the general clunkiness that comes with the age of [i]Final Fantasy XI[/i]. The UI experience is far from modern, some settings are obtusely hidden in two (!) configuration tools existing separately from the in-game settings and many aspects are just more obtusely handled than the solutions modern MMOs offer (e.g. inventory management).
Another part of [i]Final Fantasy XI[/i] that’s really showing the age of the game would be its speed – or lack thereof. The few nation missions I undertook during my time with the game all involved a lot – and I mean [b]a LOT[/b] – of simply walking around. Watch a simple cutscene consisting of an NPC saying a few lines (by which I mean they’re posted in the chatlog, there’s no voice acting) and then spend ten minutes making your way to the location you probably had to look up in the fan wiki. Arguments can be made for this slowed-down kind of MMO gameplay, but personally, even I found it to be too slow (and that’s coming from someone who enjoyed the slow passages of [i]Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn[/i]). Even though there’s a teleport system, I felt like I spend way too much time just walking the same passageways for way too little story content.
Then there’s the combat of [i]Final Fantasy XI[/i]. Of course, a proper review of MMO combat can only be made once max level has been reached, so I’m unable to discuss this aspect of the game in detail. I do want to mention one aspect that I found personally annoying, especially for new players: there’s no easy way to tell the levels of enemies in your way. There’s an option to manually “/check” them and the game tells you about their level in a roundabout way (e.g. “This enemy could prove to be a decent challenge”) - which is just not helpful unless you [url=https://ffxiclopedia.fandom.com/wiki/Check]look up the meaning[/url] of these “/check” statements.
After a few hours of the game, which mainly consisted of resolving technical problems, looking up my next moves on the wiki and walking between NPCs for very little story content, I was unfortunately too bored to continue with the game. It’s a slow burn and the lack of many modern MMO conveniences is quite noticeable – at least for someone like me who spent more than 1000h playing the more modern [i]Final Fantasy XIV[/i].
I could feel that [i]Final Fantasy XI[/i] has much more to offer but as far as my experience goes, it takes either a deeply devoted player or a lot of love for old-school MMOs in order to start and have a lot of fun with [i]Final Fantasy XI[/i] in 2023. There’s a reason why [i]Final Fantasy XI[/i] remains online after 21 years after all. But getting into the game at this point is no easy task, even if you’re a big fan of the [i]Final Fantasy[/i] franchise like me. It’s not impossible but it requires a lot of time and reading-up on things, apart from a high tolerance (or love) for the characteristics of an MMO from 2002. So if you’re not sure if this description fits you, consider the fact that [i]Final Fantasy XI[/i] also requires a monthly subscription. Buying the Steam version comes with a “free” 30 days subscription, but after that you’ll have to pay a fee in order to continue playing. Amazing and very creative. I have played for 12 years now.
I've played this game on and off for around 20 years and I still have content to complete.
The base game story is okay, but the expansions really shine and feel every bit as Final Fantasy as the offline titles.
The job/subjob system is my favourite from any MMO and the Trust system allows you to level by yourself easily and efficiently (a luxury that didn't exist when I began playing.)
I cannot get in to FFXIV because it feels like a poor imitation of XI. This is the OG and I hope my memories of it will always be as fond as they are now.

I always had close to zero interest in MMORPGs.
I enjoyed but was not blown away by FFXIV, so I asked myself how was its big brother FFXI doing.
And wow. Just wow.
It did not have anything and I mean ANYTHING that I would normally like in a game.
And yet, for some inexplicable reason I keep coming back to it every year - for a couple of months - since 2022.
It's grindy, tedious, cryptic to the point of requiring a guide at all times, does not respect your time and it's old school in each and every aspect.
And the best part is that when I started playing it in 2022, tons of QoL improvements had been implemented in the previous years.
In short: I love everything about it.
I find myself in the awkward position of recommending this game, and yet not recommending it at the same time.
Only take it if you really have time to sink into it and a lot of patience.
It's brutal, but it's also charming beyond belief.

Final Fantasy XI is still the best MMORPG despite the fact that it has already turned 20, it should be noted that the community is still active. Also, remembering my account of the old character that I created as a child brings me years of life xD
PS: The monthly payment remains at 11 - 13 dollars plus taxes :'^[, but with the steam version it gives access to all the expansions :D
PD2: There is no Spanish patch to date, so it's good to put English into practice.

I'm recommending this because it's a unique experience.
However... I would advise against picking this game up due to the following:
The registration process is very time-consuming and outright confusing, as it uses an ancient PlayOnline system that ties together with Square Enix's account systems, which is very double-layered for no real reason outside of it being old and outdated and SE choosing not to update it, that being said, it works even if it's utterly weird. (This game used to be on PS2, that's how old it is.)
The UI and controls take some getting used to and in my opinion they work better with a Gamepad than using Mouse & Keyboard!
The pacing of the game, mostly the way you interact with NPCs and the world itself can be offputting at first, since it's a lot of tapping and tabbing through UI elements compared to other MMOs released after FFXI.
Without Windower 4, the game is locked at 30 Frames per Second which makes it feel and look choppy, even though it actually isn't.
That being said, if you've got time to burn and you're a fan of oldschool MMOs and enjoy playing something that allows you to go at your own pace then FFXI Online might be the game for you.
I honestly think if SE bothers to "remaster" the game like they were going to do so in the past, removing the enforced 30 FPS cap by default as well as improving how the game handles with it's UI elements since you do end up doing a lot of tabbing through menus and such, since it's more of an oldschool MMO.
Then you'd have a really superb MMORPG.
That isn't to say the game isn't bad, far from it, it just has a lot of flaws and weird elements compared to what most people including myself would be used to from an MMORPG released after FFXI's original date of release. For example, it's slower paced than Vanilla WoW for point of reference.
I can say however, I can definitely tell how FFXIV 1.0 was influenced by FFXI Online with it's combat system and certain UI elements and I'm glad FFXIV 2.0 ended up being more of it's own thing than just a redo of FFXI Online, which allows both games to stand out more respectively.
I'm probably going to be playing this during content droughts for FFXIV or if I get bored and need something to play whilst watching TV shows or something, since this game is VERY multi-task friendly in my opinion in comparison to other games out there.

Sometimes fun, mostly frustrating. A terrible new player experience.
If you want to play it anyway, be prepared to ask players a lot of questions, spend a lot of time reading wiki pages, and generally chasing your tail. Oh, and getting used to keyboard controls, if you dont have a controller.
People in the game are nice and pretty helpful though.
I have hundreds of hour in this game (just not on Steam). By far my favourite MMO experience back in the day and still holds up!

I originally imported this game from the US back at launch, it even forced me to do my first ever hardware upgrade to a PC to get it running. Since then every few years I go back to it. It's like a subtle crack cocaine, but once it's in your system you're never free of it. Where every other MMORPG has been only a small fling FFXI is the Toxic relationship I keep going back too time and time again only to be abused mentally and physically by Play Online's account system. If you enjoy MMORPGs but feel everything is too streamlined and 'grey goo' now XI is a good and weird as hell title to try. If you're a big fan of XIV this is an interesting look into where it began and where a lot of the ARR monster models were directly taken from due to budget and time issues!

I love this game and i recommend it. the game is fun and the price was good, because you get every expansion. the game has monthly fee and you have to pay for each character, which i hate.
what made me love this game is just how they were able to make an mmo that actually feels like an FF game. The combat felt like something i would see in a FF game. That is why i would choose this over FF14. not that FF14 is a bad game, its just that FF14's combat system is more like WOW and not something you would see in a FF game.
FF11 is harder to get into than FF14. in FF11 stuff is harder to understand and you might need to read up on the internet about a ton of stuff, because you dont get a good tutorial. FF14 is easier to just pickup and play and have a good time in. so if doing homework about the game is something you might not like, then FF11 is not for you.

Очень сложно писать обзор «живой» MMO 18-летней (на момент написания обзора) давности. Серия Final Fantasy культовая и никогда не боялась смелых экспериментов. Один из самых смелых экспериментов, разумеется, был перенос номерной части в онлайн. Это первая кроссплей-игра, за что игра и попала в книгу рекордов Гиннеса. MMO (тем более консольные, ведь изначальный релиз FF XI был на PS2) 2002 года (т.е. pre-WoW эпохи) не отличались удобностью и практически никто не дожил до наших дней. FF XI смогла, потому что другой такой игры просто нет. Она не пыталась косить под популярные западные игры и всегда с боем прокладывала свой путь, по которому потом следовали игроки, периодически спотыкаясь о неудачные решения. Но именно её самобытность и непохожесть на других и приманивает людей. А потом не отпускает.
Да, есть FF XIV, но будем честны, это еще одна WoW. Супер крутая, стильная, затягивающая, но это другая игра в сравнении с XI. FF XI делает ставки на другие вещи в эндгейме, поэтому здесь нет привычных зачисток данжей ради шмоток и рейдов в том виде, в котором мы их все привыкли видеть. Игра, разумеется, менялась с годами, но сейчас нет смысла мусолить прошлое, кому-то нравилось больше, кому-то меньше, важно сейчас то, что разработчик может нам предложить. За 18 (на самом деле чуть меньше, т.к. активная разработка прекратилась и сейчас выходят небольшие обновления) лет в игре накопилось масса сюжетного контента, а для эндгейма и того больше. В игре есть чем заняться, разве что любители PvP останутся не у дел. Но, повторюсь, игра много где устарела и с этим нужно мириться, тем более за 13 евро в месяц.
С точки зрения социальной составляющей здесь всё очень хорошо: сервера не делятся по странам и регионам, есть только условности, что на Phoenix обитали русские игроки, а на Odin преимущественно японцы. Самый популярный сервер сейчас Asura, там я и обитаю. Отношение к новичкам ввиду необычности в такой игре появление новичка хорошее: менторы (да и не только они) всему вас обучат, подскажут, где что делать и всегда будут доступны для совета и подсказок. Для сюжетных приключений больше не нужно искать сопартийцев, система призыва NPC-компаньонов прекрасно решает эту проблему.
Технически стим-версия клиента игры была апдейтнута и больше нет проблемы, когда нужно 8 часов обновлять игру после установки. Теперь потребуется от 10 минут до 40, что не так уж и страшно. Страшно другое: костыльность столь сложной по архитектуре игры не могло не вести за собой технические неудобства: все еще может возникнуть путаница с аккаунтами (хотя это сильно упрощено) и невозможностью нормально запускать игру через сам Steam. Более того, вам с огромной вероятностью захочется модить игру хотя бы для того, чтобы вас не выбрасывало из игры, когда вы её сворачиваете.

You will most likely need a linkshell, unless you're overly stubborn on doing most things solo. The XI game prided(prides?) itself on being teamwork oriented, so a linkshell is highly recommended, if only so you can get pointers on how to get started.
Also yes even if I chose negative review, It's still worth buying for the music alone. There's something to being in the zone, versus finding the track on youtube.

If there was a "Neutral" button, I would press that one.
I did set it on negative, because a new player today would likely be disoriented, and thrown into a massive environment with no pointers. A new player without friends also joining in, will have a lacking experience in comparison to when the game was in its prime (Original installment to early WOTG, people will find different times to be defined as "prime". But most I've talked to agree that Abyssea was a complete bust and ruined the game).
Adoulin, Rhapsodies and the new story that is currently being added, did steer people away from Abyssea, so it seems like FFXI is throwing on a few band-aids, and is recovering sliightly from the fall, although the game is overly casual-friendly now. Depending on the kind of player you are, there is a lot to do; Level to 30 (White Mage recommended), get the spells if you went a mage job, if solo, get "Trusts", get other jobs and check them out, find your favourite.
--Level to 99, get the best i119 armour for your job, learn your job, make the best macros,
become a crafter, instance-runner, Mog Garden Caretaker, Raise a Chocobo, Do quests, some have fun stories, learn the market, get the end-game abilities and weapons. and it is a MMO that has no microtransactions, due to being old. That is, unless you count the game being subscription based.
So the gaming aspect of the game, can be lacking, especially for older players that want to experience hours of grinding exp in teams where 90% of the grind is just socializing. There is content for those that have reached 99 with decent gear, instance-runs, instance boss fights, Reisenjima & Escha bosses, it can be done, it is just a rarer sight. (Or I could be in all the wrong places, not to mention server.)
The social aspect, is still largerly important if you want the fullest experience currently available of the game.
Thanks to the increased EXP gain, how some/most instanced fights in stories are no longer level-sync'd, and how easy the game is, it can feel like you're cheating.
I feel like you can at least to some degree feel the difficulties some of the fights used to have, with the battlefields that become available to you through the purchase of merit points, and walk of echoes instances, as some of these battlefields are harder difficulties of Summoner Prime Avatar fights, or the Ark Angels, and other story-driven battlefields.
So would I recommend it today?
To a new player? I do not know. It would really depend on the player. If aforementioned ^ appeals to you, then go right on ahead. If not, I hope you find a game that give you as good a time as XI gave me back in the day. XI is HOME. It's nostalgia, it's where we grew up and developed ourselves as people. It's where we found many friends.
But I can not say with certainty that the current XI would give a new player that satisfaction. A returning player however? Yes, give it a shot. At least when the game is on a sale. The casual grind and easy mode may be a turn-off, but the new content makes it feel refreshing in its own way, the XI of today is a game that took inspiration from old XI's storytelling.

It says I only played for 13 minutes, Steam do not seem to recognize that the PlayOnline screen is not the entire game, so it doesn't register the time I have on the actual game. For some (i.e. My sister), it works as it should and gives the total playtime of the steam version of the game.
It's definately a very enjoyable RPG even tho it is old.

Unlocking the Jobs and playing the storylines feels very rewarding. And since it's 2020, you don't even need friends anymore, you can solo most of the game with the Trust system.

Final fantasy XI is a 15 year old game that is as strongest as it is when it started and if you are thinking of giving it a go you will be happy.

I literally have 863 days of /playtime in this game. I first got it when it launched in the UK and I played it 12 hours a day every day for 4 years. I put the game down and got the blood moving round my body a bit then went back for second and third helpings.
This game has a very rough and annoying user interface because it was designed for the playstation 2 and never properly modified for the PC.
It is however the best game ever.
Except tonberries look silly in this game all warty and nasty and not uber cute like the ones in other final fantasy games.

Love this game, one of my favorite games of all time. Recently started playing again on a new character. <3 the nostalgia, the music, the old community, the toughness of the game. This is for me the best MMO of all time.
I am actually surprised by the amount of enjoyment I get from this game. I picked it up just to try out and experience all of final fantasy main installment games, but it pleasantly surprised me for such an old game. I like retro games though, so you should take it with a grain of salt.
Small community (Asura is by far the most lively server) but with the Quality of Life changes, unity and Records of Eminence, this is an easy game to get going on your own. Recommended if you are into old school MMOs or just want to try something different.
a forgotten final fantasy game. if you like the early 2000s Ps2 era videogame art design this is probably the most premium experience you can buy. out of the reach of most young gamers when it was initially released due to having to purchase aditional hardware for ps2 on top of subscription costs, expansions and internet woes of the early 2000s. Runs fine on modern computers and though there is a bit of fiddling involved once you have windower installed and unlock the framerate you got a interesting timestamp of a mmo. just finished raising my first chocobo mount and feels good mate. defs check this out if you want to look into a interesting mmo with a lot of content. interesting that people are still playing this. its very strange compared to modern mmos but give it a chance its pretty damn comfy.

I've been playing this game since 2004, when it was full of people, with an incredible community and extremely hard.
Now everything is easier due to the number of people playing it, but the experience and the story is something unique.
Keep in mind that this game is old (15 year), so some aspect of the gameplay are very different from the newest games, but you won't be disappointed by the story, the quests, the Endgame.
If you are a returning player, you'll miss some of the old hard grind content like 64 People Dynamis, long experience party or HNM/Sky/Sea God Camp, now everything is Trigger based so you can do when you want, without the long 24h-3days-7days repop and camp. Level up a character to 99 is pretty fast, you can get to Lv. 99 + Master in 1-3 days with the right team.
I've had some of my best gaming experience and friendship on this game so... Enjoy Vana'diel!
Really ambitious in all fronts. Something you don't see nowadays. The early game is too focused on solo but you can play it with friends or other people doing the same thing you are with no problems (unless you don't use the wiki because you are in for a ride). Make sure you try out the trial from the Square Enix store first to see if it's your thing. Also join the Asura server if you are wondering where to go. That's where the English speaking cluster is at.
Someone said that you pay for the download and you don't. You pay for the product registration code you will get when you open the game in Steam. Just wanted to clear that out.

Игра супер, хоть и выглядит примитивно для 2018 года, но в ней есть свой шарм. Игра сложная (хоть ее и глобально упростили в сравнении с тем же 2006 годом когда я последний раз в нее играл). Игра бросает вызов ещё до того как ты начнёшь в нее играть, зарегистрироваться в ней это настоящий квест! Настроить графику до "приятной" это тоже целый квест, приходится лезть в реестр и настраивать там, остальное докручивать в настройках самой игры. Далее, управление, без геймпада играть не особо удобно, хотя в 2006 г. меня это совсем не смущало, но если есть геймпад, то ставьте дефолтные настройки и вперед, играть! Ещё советую, если играете на геймпаде, в настройках уже в самой игре включить инверсию камеры для правого стика, лично мне было не удобно без нее :) А так игра хорошая, интерфейс конечно не очень, но затачивалось для консолей и ПК одновременно. И абонка огорчает, вроде как 13 евро? Или возможно я чего-то не знаю. Сам недавно начал играть, кто хочет, присоединяйтесь, играю на сервере Asura, тут самый годный онлайн :)

PC version is great, but would be greater sitting in my couch playing this on my PS4,

Probably, the best mmorpg in the world but don't get it on steam.
I have no idea why would you get this game on steam and heres why:
1) This game costs money on steam when it is actually free to try first month if you download launcher from square enix's website. So, it means that when you buy this game here you don't actually pay for your first month you just pay for the download lol. You will still have to get a trial subscription and pay for your first month afterwords.
2) Horrible integration with steam. Developers didn't even bother to display Final Fantasy XI's image in your recent games. It feels like you are playing a non-steam/pirated version. WTF?!
3) The only reasonable option to play this game is by using windower.net because it allows you to run the game fullscreen borderless and also have a bunch of plugins. You can't alt+tab in FFXI without windower. Well, steam doesn't support windower. When you start your FFXI from windower steam won't display that you are "in game".
4) There's just no benifits in using steam version over launcher because it's not really connected with steam in anyway.
5) If you didn't start your steam as admin steam will not count your total playtime.

Well, I managed to get screenshots to work as well as steam community. All you do is you start your steam as admin and then you play in FFXI.
However, it's still impossible to play with plugin using steam version. Really disapointed with this steam integration. Why it's not free-to-pay? It will cost you $29.99 USD to just download this game when you could just get a free version from the website and have 3 months worth of playtime e.g. trial + $12 USD + $12 USD.
По многим причинам проект FF-11 у русскоязычных игроков был опущен, пропущен, забыт… Свою роль сыграла чипованая PS-2, Аккела издатель не пойми чего. Проблемы с банковскими картами «нулевых».
Игра действительно является MMORPG во всех смыслах которые можно вообразить, и заткнет любой современный проект за пояс (даже FF-14). Главное полный стиль и дух серии FF.
Полный хадкор, который пытаются повторить и сейчас… Огромный мир, пусть и по нынешним меркам не так красив и пуст. Честные бои с мобами, не каких поблажек, не знание элементов игры не освобождает от итогов ваших приключений. Новым игрокам действительно тяжело начинать играть и освоится, но далее… это укрепит связь с игрой и миром.
Главный минус проекта, не графика. Главный минус проекта это интерфейс со времен PS-2.
Интерфейс отпугнет даже программиста, не логики, не удобств. За 16 лет стабильно получаемых доходов от игры, можно было написать простые виджеты…
Вы не пожалеете что пустились в приключения FF-11, но задумаетесь… стоит ли продолжать...

[b] Aber warum eigentlich? [/b]
Fangen wir an bei der Installation.
Den Client bzw das Grundprogramm zu installieren ist kein Hexenwerk.
Selbst Steam nutzt nur den Client zum Starten des "PlayOnline-Launchers", mit dem ein nervenaufreibenes Szenario beginnt.
Wenn man es geschafft hat sich durch den Irrweg durch PlayOnline-ID
+ Passwort & SquareID + Passwort zu manövrieren,
beginnt die Patchphase.
Nichts ungewöhnliches das ein MMO die installierten Dateien durchsucht aktuelle drüberpatcht.
Nun wäre es einfach wenn der Launcher "normal" patchen würde wie es jedes andere Spiel tut.
Das Spiel ist aktuell 13,5 GB groß und hat 61.591 Dateien und nahezu [b] JEDE EINZELNE DATEI WIRD EINZELN GEPATCHT [/b] , was durchschnittlich [b] ca 8h dauern kann [/b] .
Bricht der Patch ab (evtl weil die Internetverbindung sich neu lädt) , darf man neu beginnen.
[b] Endlich sind wir fertig mit patchen, lasst uns spielen [/b]
Charaktererstellung, Klassenauswahl ... passt. Etwas spartanisch, aber ausreichend.
Die Grafik ist auch OK. Obere PS2-Qualität in HD. Völlig in Ordnung.
Beim Einstieg wird man wie in neueren MMO's nicht unbedingt "an die Hand genommen".
Selbstständigkeit ist gefragt. Reden mit NPC's um Infos über das aktuelle Quest-/ Weltgeschehen zu erfahren.
Da das Spiel 2002 erschien, darf man nicht erwarten das Quests über den Köpfen der Figuren angezeigt wird.
Mittlerweile ging man auch auf den heutigen Standard zu und hat für viele Dinge Bonus-XP eingeführt (10 Gegner da, 30 Level hier .. .usw usw).
Soweit komm ich damit klar.
Das Gameplay ist sehr langatmich.
Quests sind nur eine Entschuldigung für "du darst erst rein wenn du mir XY bringst".
Wo das dann ist.....naja ... man sucht selber...beliest sich ... erringt Zugänge für andere Orte.
Einfacher wäre es wenn man wie woanders auch einfach ALT-TAB bzw vom Vollbild in den Fenstermodus wechseln könnte.
Nein, gibts nicht. Tut man das...ist man sofort ausgeloggt. Früher gab es sogar ein inoffizielles Tool für den Fenstermodus, jedoch waren/sind die Entwickler sehr empfindlich in puncto Fremdtools und bannten in der Vergangenheit auch schnell.
[b] Was mache ich hier eigentlich? [/b]
Bevor man auch nur annähernd was erreichen kann heisst es GRINDEN GRINDEN GRINDEN.
Denn Erfahrungspunkte gibts ausschließlich durch Kills (und mittlerweile die oben erwähnten Errungenschaften).
Trotzdem, man hat endlos lange Laufwege und Gegner verfolgen dich durch das komplette Gebiet wenn sie dich mal gesehen haben. Eine Flucht ist nicht möglich...und wenn man stirbt, belebt man sich am letzten Homepoint den man gesetzt hat. Wenn man Pech hat läuft man wieder endlos.
Passende Ausrüstung ist auch Mangelware, das Auktionhaus ist sehr ünübersichtlich und bevor man Level 50/60 ist, ist darin kaum was zu finden.
Die Geschichten sind interessant, jedoch ist es ein Krampf zu dem Punkt zu kommen an dem man wirklich Spaß haben könnte wie in anderen Spielen.
Zudem hat das Spiel zusätzlich zum Anschaffungspreis immer noch monatliche Gebüren.
In der heutigen Zeit rechtfertigen nur wenige alte Spiele eine Abogebür und bei diesem könnte man davon absehen.

Let's start with the installation.
Installing the client or the basic program is not rocket science.
Even Steam uses only the client to start the "PlayOnline Launcher", which starts a nerve-racking scenario.
If you've managed to maneuver your way through PlayOnline ID + Password & SquareID + Password, begins the patch phase.
Nothing unusual that an MMO scans the installed files.
Now it would be easy if the launcher patched "normally" like any other game does.
The game is currently 13.5 GB in size and has 61,591 files and almost EVERY SINGLE FILE HAS BEEN PATCHED, which can take on average about 8 hours.

Since the game was released in 2002, your should not expect quests to appear above the heads of the characters.

Still, you have endless ways and enemies follow you through the entire area when they see you. An escape is not possible ... and when you die, you revived at the last homepoint you have set.

The stories are interesting, but it's a mess to get to the point where you could really have fun like in other games.

Para mi el mejor juego en la historia de MMORPG, sin duda alguna. Este juego lanzado hace mas de 15 años todavia sigue marcando tendencia y con millones de subscriptores en sus servidores. Con unas diez expansiones a sus espaldas ha sabido llegar perfectamente al jugador en todas sus facetas. Historia, sistema de combate, interactividad con el mundo, social...
Fue el primer juego de este genero que jugue y ademas fue pionero. Aqui no existe el Pay to win, como mucho comprar guilds en paginas externas. Asi que te lo tienes que currar.
Este es un juego para disfrutar del puro RPG y Square Enix lo ha logrado con creces. Mis mejores momentos con un videojuego han sido con esta obra de arte.
Si lo que quieres es volver a sentir esa sensacion de rol puro, sin prisas, disfrutando de sus paisajes, banda sonora, historia etc.. Este es tu juego.

Have been playing this game for about 15 years now, still not bored, returning again after a break. Only purchased the Steam copy purely so i could leave a well-deserved thumbs-up review for what is without doubt the best MMO RPG to date. Cannot recomend this game enough. Mechanics, lore, community, interface, depth, challenge, humour, performance. Everything 10/10.
Still going strong with a paid subscription delivering a solid product tried and tested for over a decade.
Has a reputation for being hard to set up, but this is only a problem for people who have trouble keeping track of multiple usernames and passwords. I feel that the rigorous security procedures are worth it and as i keep good records, i never had a problem.
FFXI still needs some steam achievements and trading cards/badges ! This game deserves it after so long.

Je ne vous recommande pas ce jeu à part si vous souhaitez complêter la collection des jeux FF sur votre compte STEAM avant qu'il ne disparaisse un jour (c'est possible).
- Difficile d'activer le compte et accès au réseau
Si compte est activé, pas d'accès au réseau car "pas encore activé"
- Aucune liaison entre le jeu et Steam donc pas d'heure ni capture d'écran etc.
Square Enix nous recommande de supprimer une partie et de vérifier le cache...
SOLUTION : Bidouiller le regedit et lancer Steam en administrateur (voir mon profil guide)
- Serveur téléchargement est pourrit
Le patch prend 7-8 heures et si c'était rapide c'est que vous avez mal activé la clé, donc ça ne vas pas fonctionner
- Création de personnage =/= Monde
Il ne ressemble pas de tout! Le visage est vraiment moche et l'option inutile "petit, moyen, grand" aucun différence sauf une fois entré dans le monde.
- Aucune support d'interface ou d'utilisation
Il faut appuyer sur la touche - dans le NumPad pour avoir tout les menus (missions, quêtes, quitter la partie...) je vous conseille de jouer sans souris (TAB pour sélectionner un ennemi ou objet puis bouton ENTRER pour confirmer selon le choix de l'action en bas gauche)
- L'histoire a l'air intéressant mais vite perdu après cinématique, pas de repère de 1er quête ?
- Suppression de langue française ==> boulet, même en anglais je suis vite perdu alors en générale je comprends
- Jeu mal vieilli (si on prend tout les négatifs en compte)
+ Le graphisme est classique, j'aime bien
Je vous conseille de passer directement sur Final Fantasy XIV, il est excellent j'ai plus de 100 heures dessus!
Man nehme ein ein wenig "extravagantes MMO-Gameplay", mische dies mit "altbewährten Final Fantasy Elementen", gebe noch etwas "Grafik-Tuning" hinzu und gare das Ganze eine Weile schonend. Danach kommt das fertige Gericht dann in einen exklusiven luftdichten Behälter, der nur einer echten Kennerschaft zugänglich ist, und wird über mehrere Jahre gereift! Voilà! Fertig ist unser Final Fantasy XI Gaumenschmaus!
Achtung: Diese Leckerei ist aufgrund seiner Andersartigkeit nicht für jeden Gaumen verträglich. Der MMO-Genießer von heute kann einen leicht bitteren Nachgeschmack erleben. Besonders in der ausländischen Küche beliebt ;)
Preisempfehlung: bis 20€ inkl. aller DLC's

In true SE style, the installation and account creation is an absolute mess. It is for FFXIV:ARR/HW as well.
But once you get past that, and if you can look past the 2003-era graphics, it is an FF MMO as it was meant to be. If you find that XIV is too easy for you -- legit complaint, since most hardcore raiders have Alexander (Creator) Savage on farm with 4 months to go until Stormblood is out -- then maybe the no-hand-holding, butt-spanking brutality of XI might be right up your street.
XIV gives you an essay and a map.
XI gives you a set of coordinates and a pat on the bum. Best pray you've bought the map for the right area, and you don't aggro some random mob 20 levels above you on the way.
