very difficult to get this game working for any modern computer, to people not as tech savvy, but if they either fixed the programming issues or gave us a clear way to do the steps our selves it would have been very helpful. The game itself feels timeless. its as good today as the demo was when i was a child.

Причем в игре нет процедурной генерации. Да и вообще какой-либо генерации локаций.
Всегда одни и те же локации. Всегда одни и те же враги.
А у тебя нет скиллов. Вообще. Если ты не маг, то ты просто зажимаешь ЛКМ, пока не умрешь или ты или враг.
Одинаковый геймплей в одинаковых локациях с одинаковыми врагами. Просто чтобы тебя не ваншотали на следующем этаже.
И знаете, гоблин в террарии еще нормальный чел. Тот, кто зачаровывает предметы в этой игре - это тот, кто преподавал там, где гоблин из террарии учился. Цены неадекватно огромные. И в любой момент он может наложить на твои вещи проклятье. И можешь смело выкидывать вещь на землю, потому что торговцы здесь покупают вещи за копейки (с бочек в данже падает больше, чем торговцы тебе дают за лут). А снять проклятье нельзя. Решил усилиться и стать сильнее? Бац, ты легким мановением руки откатываешь в развитии на 2-3 часа прогресса. Причем за твои же деньги. У тебя забирают сильную пушку и оставляют без денег. И ты буквально начинаешь проходить игру заново с первого этажа, потому что другие этажи ты тупо не можешь зачистить без этой пушки.

A childhood FAVORITE and one of my very first PC games. I have been and always will be obsessed with FATE. It's such a comfort game for me. Classic and enjoyable dungeon crawler with nostalgia laid on thicc. From the fishing mod to "tempting fate", I love every aspect of the game.

Вы никогда нормально не прокачаетесь через общепринятые вещи.
Строго рыбачишь легендарки, продаёшь их, идешь зачаровываешься по максималке, проходишь несколько этажей, повторяешь данный цикл. Сама по себе игра бесконечная, а сложности на последних этажах это вообще бред.
Почему эту игру за бугром считают культовой, я не понимаю.

So simple and so very fun
FATE es un juego de RPG que lo había jugado cuando era pequeño, pero nunca logré avanzar demasiado. Sin embargo me había causado una gran impresión. Tanto que al ver que podía jugarlo de nuevo no dudé ni un segundo. Esta tenía que ser la ocasión de poder terminarlo por fin.
La ambientación, la premisa y la música me encantan. El ciclo jugable se vuelve muy repetitivo a las pocas horas, y las misiones pierden su chiste muy pronto. Todas son genéricas y con solo 3 variaciones.
Recomiendo este juego para probarlo, y si te gusta, ármate de paciencia para llegar al objetivo final, vas a necesitar de mucha paciencia.

I remember playing this when I was younger and decided to play it to completion it's a classic game and definitely would be rough around the edges for newer players but still a great game to see on Steam.

The game is very nostalgic for me. The Wild Tangent app that came with Windows was a gem back when all I had was free games. Since the games were on a time-trial I could only have runs that only lasted so long. I was never able to go in-depth into FATE when I played it because I'd have to restart after every trial. Back then, I really enjoyed seeing the shop inventories with expensive gear I could never afford. I dont think I'm that interested in dungeon crawlers, but this game has a certain charm and a place in my heart that I just had to buy it to experience a piece of my childhood.

A Classic. The quintessential introductory RPG.
Game is very good and enjoyable. I always choose Magic because Magic in the Fate series is broken and overpowered. Fate series is my all time favorite dungeon crawler. I even 100% complete the game and got every Achievement. I would recommend this game and the entire Fate series to anybody who loves fantasy and dungeon crawler games.

Tiene sus cosas que uno discutiría, quizás más se notan ahora por el paso del tiempo, pero lo único que me molesta mucho es que no entiendo por qué re carajos lucha tanto por sostener los 60 FPS aún cuando le bajé los gráficos en una PC con requisitos que sobrepasan los recomendados...
Sin embargo, andar usando magia con invocaciones realmente se hace entretenido y alienta a probar diferentes métodos para explorar tus opciones, lo que agradable al ritmo y puede alentar a la rejugabilidad. No es un mal juego, pero se siente como un Diablo más liviano.

I have played this game since i got my first computer back in 2006 and every time i get a new computer, I buy this game immediately. This is my go to, offline, comfort game! dungeon crawling, combat, fishing, leveling, fun! I have probably hundreds of hours in this game!
It's a game that starts out easy and gets harder as you progress, probably like many other games. It keeps me coming back to it daily.

I grabbed this because of nostalgia and, boy howdy, does it sure play like a freeware version of Diablo. The system with the pets (distinct inventory, can send it to town to sell loot) is pretty cool but there isn't really any sort of complexity in this game beyond occasionally juggling gear and maybe using a buff. After about 20 levels the procedurally generated floors gets repetitive, and it just ends up being a chore by the end.

man this was one the first games i ever played. back in 2010 we aint have much money. but with my brothers going to school they decided to get a computer for school. an old run down cube for a computer. when we got back from working with our father they would let me get on the computer and play solitaire. well obviously i got bored of it still being a kid i started to look for other games thats when i found the wild tangent client on my brothers pc. if you created an account you get a weeks worth of game time. safe to say i replayed the same floors of the dungeons in this game for years. i recently found this game again and bought it. i can 10000% say this game is still worth playing especially if its on sale which it almost always is

Old School 'Wandering about and collecting pointless stuff' fun!
A game that was installed on early to mid 2010's PC's, first three floors of the dungeon were free, after that I always wanted the game,
now fast-forward to 2026, and I picked it up on sale for $4. This game is literally everything an old school aRPG / Hack and Slash Diablo like is. You don't have any attack skills to give yourself special attacks, you just swing your sword, or whatever you're wielding, and that's all you get,
Magic in this game seems pretty powerful, considering that to get more of it, you have to put skill points into it, usually games that require this type of ordeal especially older aRPGs reward you heavily for investing in them.
I managed to find one of the best helmets for a dual wielding build and I am just overall so happy that rng sometimes goes your way, oh and the "crafting"? That's all RNG as well but you love it anyways,
There's also 2 expansions to this game that you can port your current character from the first into the next two expansions, creating a solid playloop.

Having played FATE when it first got released under WildTangent's label (around 2005) separate from the Steam store page listing, i've managed to go through all 4 original games over time, meaning i'd paid for each one... thus i write the review simply to point out to the developer(s) who released the reawakened version, that they're basically asking full price for all 4 games once again, rather than offering a proper upgrade discount for owners of the previously released games - I am aware other developers who've remastered their older game titles bringing them in line with newer technologies, they don't ask full prices for the remastered versions, instead offering to upgrade their current purchased version for a significant discount... if you're asking full price for remastering of older games, then perhaps that's an indicator of the company's financial situation (or personal for that matter lol)...
PS, my recommendation for FATE extends to all four original releases, rather than the newest Reawakened versions, don't get me wrong on that!

I loved this game as a kid and now that I am grown, l still enjoy it! Brings back memories. Very simple game yet twists and turns throughout the dungeons keep it interesting.

Came to replay it after ages a real childhood classic highly recommend if you want a chill type of dungeon crawl adventure.
Just do pay attention to what stats, items and spells do since if you don't you'll hit a sharp difficulty spike very fast.

Such a fun blast from the past. Super simple to play but with plenty of randomness to keep it fresh. I originally played it when it came preloaded on an old Gateway pc I got in the late 90s. Having a great time clearing the dungeons with my faithful companion once again.

Playing this again after so many years was a gulp of nostalgia.
It's a bit difficult to get used to again, controls-wise, but it's a classic dungeon-delver.
Would recommend anyone to give it a try, especially since it is dirt cheap now.

Только в этот раз всё вокруг - такое солнечно-яркое! Во всяком случае, пока не зайдёте в дверь с красным светом.
[u][b]"Судьба"[/b][/u] - это "осветлённая" копия D1 с дополнительными особенностями.
Прохаживаемся по случайно строящимся подземным этажам, выкашивая не сильно устрашающий сброд монстров и получая за это опыт (можно попытаться просто мимо пробежать по главному заданию). Ползающие лужи, гусеницы, летучие мыши, вампиры, оборотни, зомби - разве это так страшно сейчас даже для ребёнка? Финальный босс с сороковых уровней, увы, ничем не примечателен!
С поднятием уровня улучшаем характеристики тела и разума, навыки владения оружием/магией, открываем заклинания пяти силовых школ.
Подбираем плохо лежащее золотишко, а также расходники и экипировку из разбиваемых урн-стоек или с падших врагов.
Хочется чего-то определённого - идём к торговцам/кузнецу/зачарователю/камневыдерателю/лутбоксеру/менестрелю, телепортируясь с зоны.
В дополнение к блужданию в потёмках можем взять 3 из 3-х типов этажных заданий от сельчан, повторяющихся по кругу - убей монстра, группу монстров или найди потерянную вещь.
В награду получаем опыт, славу у местных, деньги и иногда вещь, свойства которой заранее никак не узнать.
Найденные квестовые предметы можно оставить у себя (и отменить квест) - кармических штрафов от судьбы за такое не будет!
Есть предварительная персонализация персонажа.
Образцы оружки-одёжки не уникальны ([i]Рэнди, здесь могла бы быть рекомендация Borderlands![/i]), по большей части различаются первичными эффектами и цветами подсветки в инвентаре.
Изначально с нами всюду бегает псина/котя, которая очень любит глотать красные склянки и по первому зову готова бегать в город для продажи лишнего добра.
Питомца можно превратить в паука, грифона, мозгохода и др. как временно, так и на постоянке.
Занятие рыбалкой даёт рыбу, трансформирующую нашего зверя, вставляемые в камешки со свойствами и прочее мелкое.
Слава конечна и даёт лишь двойное улучшение навыков.
Читы в Steam-версии вырезали, но никто не отменял получение исключительно положительных эффектов от зачарования предметов через "save/load".
Временами на уровнях могут появится святилища с выпадающими камушками и алтари характерного обучения - но они легко обходятся той же функцией.
При смертельном падеже игроку игрой судьбой предоставляется несколько выборов:
- восстановить здоровье и очутиться на месте гибели, но за это спишется умеренное количество набранного опыта и славы у местных;
- восстановить здоровье и очутиться на 1-2 уровня выше/ниже, но за это придётся заплатить десятиной нажитого золота ([i]Рэнди, ещё одно место для интеграции Borderlands!![/i]);
- восстановить здоровье и очутиться на 3 уровня выше, но всё золото останется на месте гибели, ожидая подбора в течении 20 минут.
Однако, в порыве горечи не все могут заметить, что есть и четвёртый вариант:
- нажать на кнопку выхода в правом нижнем углу, вернуться в меню и загрузиться в начале последнего посещенного уровня подземелья.
Про механику обновления существ при отсутствии на уровне более 20 минут скажу, что на низкой сложности её не заметить.
А вот о чем умолчать не могу - не начинайте играть на героической сложности+, если не готовы потратить сотню часов и больше!
Где-то с 10 уровня враги становятся кучнее и в среднем на 10 уровней выше нашего - просто не успеваешь оценить, сколько снесут здоровья и когда выгоднее глотать лечилку!
Чуть позже появляются плохо различимые в отблесках красок от уровня враги-одиночки, которые могут положить одной дальней атакой.
Золота так - копейки, опыта - крохи, квесты на пройденные ранее этажи - не выдаются! Предстоят длительные повторные чистки верхних уровней для раскачки с акцентом на выманивании. Конечно, можно пробовать просто пробежать куда надо, но крайне высок шанс окружения, замедления и упокоения или прилёта из ниоткуда.
Всё действо ещё и жёстко лагает, когда образовывается куча-мала!
К ситуации хорошо подходит рэп от Стрельникова: "Лох, это - [b]Судьба[/b]!".
Как бы то ни было, после читающейся победы наш герой может выйти на пенсию и начать всё приключение заново потомком или просто опускать дальше до достижения ограничения 32-битной переменной типа "int" (2 147 483 647-го уровня).
Наследство - пшик, ведь можно завещать только ОДНУ вещь!!!
Первые десять уровней бегать - весело, качество же марафона остальных 30+ зависит от конкретного запаса ностальгической выдержки и распробывания других диаблоидных блюд.

y'all remember in the 2000s when the demo for this game was preinstalled with Windows XP with a bunch of other Wild Tangent demos, but this was the only one that had a broken timer on it for some reason so you could play the first 3 floors of the dungeon and the main town as long as you want while the rest of the demos only had 1 hour timers or limited amount of times they could be opened?

Сундуки, квесты нпцшников, множество бесполезных зачарований на шмотках, гемблинг. Все перечисленные вещи не нужны для мягкого нагиба этой легкой игры. Просто филлерное говно, призванное отвлечь твое внимание и забрать твое время.
Что тут имеет значение - это скейлинг, а встать на его путь следует с помощью рыбалки, зачарования шмоток и убийства мобов. Это все, что важно и ценно.
В жизни ровно так же. Выбрасываешь бесполезный мусор из жизни, перестаешь прилагать усилия к бесполезным вещам и все внезапно становится таким легким и интересным.
Бесполезные вещи по-прежнему будут крутиться у тебя под носом, ровно как и тут постоянно попадаются бочки, сундуки, квесты нпц и бесполезные зачарования. Ты просто в них не вкладываешься, хоть они и перед тобой и сразу же появляется четкая цель, большое количество времени и сил.
Тут ты просто становишься сильным на столько, чтобы всех ваншотить на Легенде. Пролетая уровни только ради убийства мобов, и , игнорируя весь дроп, сундучки и ящички. И внезапно понимаешь, что они вообще не нужны и тебе без них хорошо и даже лучше, ведь до этого они отнимали у тебя время и силы, заставляя думать о себе и менеджить то, что менеджить неэффективно.
Добрая серия игр, укрепила мой разум и позволила сформировать закостенелые установки в голове.

FATE is a super fun classic dungeon crawler that still scratches that loot-and-explore itch. The procedurally generated dungeons, tons of weapons and spells, and quirky pet system make every run feel fresh, and it’s easy to jump in and just lose hours exploring caves and killing monsters. It’s old school in the best way. Simple, addictive, and a great throwback to classic ARPGs. Definitely worth checking out if you like action RPGs with lots of loot and charm.

They brought out a mobile version of this on Goggle Play (possibly Apple Store too), were they collect a bunch of personal information, including precise user location and even personal browser history, advertise it as free with the option of unlocking all of the (mostly basic) game aspects through buying in game, just to collect as much user data as possible by luring people to "just test it, since it's basically free at first".
When i pointed that out in my review on PlayStore, Google swiftly struck my comment down with the ban-hammer, due to "not containing information relevant to the game"
Disgusting corporate tactics, i would not recommend anybody to support.

Fun nostalgic dungeon delver. I only recommend playing this if you've played it in the past.
Runs well on modern hardware, I had no crashes or compatibility issues running on Windows 11.
If you're just going for the achievements and want to get them done quickly you can cheese the game a bit by getting overpowered gear. Get to level 25 then buy non-enchanted gear from the blacksmith, run up to the enchanter, gamble on enchantments until a piece of gear has 1 enchantment on it, sell it to a shop, save & exit, then repeat. You should 4x-20x (if you get a unique/teal enchantment) the amount spent per item. Do this for a nice cash stack, blow your load at the bard to increase your fame, and save the really nice gear you get unique enchantments on for yourself. I spent maybe 2 hours doing this method after I hit level 25 and proceeded to make my character OP enough to complete the game in about 30 minutes and get the final achievement.

never ending crashing
My wife and I played the tutorial back in the day and never got the opportunity to really play it. We saw it on sale and jumped at the opportunity. No we are playing together and having a great time.
It is perfectly at the heart of what an RPG and a dungeon-dweller are supposed to be. Modern games have lost the simplicity of FATE. The stats and skills are simple, loot is highly random with some determinism built in, and the combat is straight forward, but when you get higher level it is challenging and rewarding (if you don't tailor your gear).
Simple and fun game that's worth it's price. Random generated levels, a wide variety of loot and armor designs, intuitive magic and old-school RPG stat building with a variable final boss and origin story. Descendant characters allow you to carry an item down to a new play-through. From 2005 to 2007, this game had a demo version that came pre-installed on HP laptops and desktops, which was originally how I found the game as a kid. I couldn't afford to unlock the full game back then, so I bought it and 100% it here to fulfill a childhood dream.
While the nostalgia pulled me in, and created a few hours of pure enjoyment, the game becomes quickly repetitive. What you're doing in hour one is what you will be doing through hour 10-15. The loot is fun to collect, and it was great to revisit childhood. But this game shows its age, and not in a good way.
Pays homage to old school DnD and give a great nestalgiah hit reminding you of how you thought of adventure as a kid.

The Game is quite good for the time it was created. I originally got the game out of a sense of nostalgia but picked up the rest of the series because it remains an enjoyable experience. Starting out, the gameplay can depend heavily on the RNG of the dropped loot to decide whether or not you have an easy start. However, I have found that using the gambling mechanic for equipment or searching the stores every so often can net significantly better equipment if legendary equipment pieces aren't dropping. The game, while dated, remains fun to play and is worth picking up for a quick run.
used to play the demo of this game for hours and hours as a kid, and its just as great as i remember it being! the chunky graphics and little line quirks ("You caught a fish and found a [fish type] inside!" because the game uses the same dialog for both catching a fish and finding treasure in a fish) only add more charm imo.

I have a nostalgic fondness for Fate, even if it's not reciprocated.
The game shows its age, as if it had been released 5 years earlier.
It's dated from before its birth, charming, but clunky.
Many of its good ideas were implemented much better in its parent series, Torchlight.
The game has terrible optimization, all the fights are repetitive and boring, without strategy.
The missions are terribly unbalanced, with bosses that kill with a single hit and exaggerated rewards, with items you can't keep and with NPCs that change their objectives all the time, preventing you from going back and playing previous quests.
The leveling system is terrible, not in the sense of freedom that no class offers, but in the implementation: magic takes too long to cast, summons cause a lot of lag, axes have terrible hitboxes, and the knockback mechanic ruins the already awful combat system.
Enemies surround you and you can't hit them properly with melee weapons, your pet, even transformed, is very fragile, the bosses are just burly minions, including the final one.
Poison and debuffs are irrelevant at the beginning of the game, and life-threatening later on, for some inexplicable reason, poison automatically heals at low levels and becomes a curse at high levels.
XP progression makes absolutely no sense, even if you get the maximum number of missions per level (3), complete 100% of a map and collect everything you see, you still don't gain enough XP to level up. You quickly become weak against the monsters and are forced to go back to previous levels and spend a lot of time farming the miserable amount of XP you gain per monster outside of a quest. It wouldn't be a problem if you could do previous quests, but since that's not possible, it's just poor balancing.
Also no respect mechanic.
PS: WildTangetGames, please release Penguins! On Steam, it was by far the best game you've ever released and one of the best in the world.

Nostalgic dungeon crawling game. Easy for non-gaming computers to handle. Has stood the test of time and if you love fantasy dungeon crawling and monster fighting you'll enjoy this game. You have a small inventory and can find different magical equipment to equip and weapons to use. You can use spells and level up stats based on what you want to be.

This is a very easy dungeon crawler to get into. The gameplay is also fun
Loved playing it as a kid, love playing it as a 30yo adult. Somehow it still has it's charm.
