It's a close call for me, There's a lot I like, but I have some major problems.
1) lack of good tooltips/documentation, so I am often confused and just need to sus out what is going on. I still don't actually know what the attack/defense or damage/armor stats do. I can only guess
2) maps often having events halfway through that result in very bad things happening immedietely, so the design really says you have to restart and try again. worst one was on enemy turn 1 (before I did anything) a powerful unit spawned, and instantly caused a scenario loss. A completely unforseeable game over that felt very unfair and unfun.
3) Units you get later are just very slightly better versions of earlier units, and it isn't possible to upgrade your old guys, so the "right" choice is to constantly be selling your guys you've spent the last 5 fights leveling up to take the small downgrade to get a new level 1 guy of the higher tier, and I find this frustrating
4) the English/localization isn't great
5) the UI is poorly implemented, stuff is zoomed in too far, requires too much scrolling, and wastes a bunch of space around the edges
IDK. I've played dozens of games like this. I just wished the campaigns had some wiggle room. I end up in the situation where you complete the mission with all honors or not at all. Having all honors, so maxed on team and money. I start the mission with harpies. and I just run out of men after stopping the ritual. Maybe if there was random fight on top of the campaign. I want to recommend this game but I can't.
Oh on bugs. Switching to windowed screen has odd behaviors, and I often have to restart the mission I'm on. Given the nature of the game. I find myself wanting to play it while in queue for a pvp game. So windowed is a must.
This is a turn based fantasy game quite similar to Elven Legacy series. It is fully voiced and the story is exceptional. The only downside is that the game is short(for veterans). Around 20 hours to finish it. If compared price/quality this is a must buy it worth it even on full price. You can also wait and get it under half price if you want to. Game is not for beginners you will need to win epic to be able to reach end, also consider doing the secondary quests before doing the main if not you will loose huge opportunity for unit level up. Another down is the interface it is ancient, personally I don't mind however it is kinda hard to use. Once you learn to you can load over and over until you get desired outcome. The difficulty picks up at dwarf campaign and in last one consider using freeze on dragons in river or lava(for defense reduction).
The graphics may be basic, but the missions are challenging and interesting

This game achieves what it wants. As a tactical turn based combat focused game in a fantasy world it has very little against it. I would recommend this game to anyone in the market for that type of fun. I got it on sale and I'm happy I did, but if you are the type to really dig into tactical battles, then by all means get this game at full price.
I have only played into the first non-tutorial campaign so its possible there is more depth as I progress. Assuming there is not though let me make a couple suggestions. There are openings for more content to be added pretty seamlessly. First off and easiest of all I think there should be more lore. Not in your face story content just a way to examine the world or worlds we are fighting in if the player so chooses. Maybe lost scrolls or proclamations.
Next is the options you have when not fighting. You can recruit, level up your units, and resurrect dead units from the cemetery. Pretty basic stuff but again in works well for what the game is offering. I just think there is room to offer more. Maybe side quests (battles) to get upgraded weapons or even units. Then be able to hire a smithy or armorer. This stuff can so easily just seem like added on bloat, but make it so its not that.
Do some of that or something else and this could easily turn into a 15-20 game. As is though it is worth it and it is fun. Cheers
No auto save (so I lost a bunch of progress because I didn't know it wasn't saving).
Hard to tell whats going on, because for some reason everything is shrunk super tiny, and is only taking place in a small box on your screen. Who knows why, no option to change that. Side objectives tell you to take control of certain towns before the main ones -- but as far as I can tell, hovering over the town just says "town" and not the name. So it feels like you're guessing it's the right one.
Feels like lots of information that would be helpful in a battle is missing.
A ton of RNG during the battle, so you can get screwed real easy.
Enemies have unlimited spawn, and you don't have reinforcements (at least as far as i got you didn't)
once a battle starts, you cant press esc to exit out of the battle -- it forces you to place all your men before being able to exit the battle.
Couldn't tell what the range of an enemy's attack was, so I would move people in bad spots.
No undo button, so I get screwed many times by accidentally moving the wrong guy.
Everything just feels clunky.
tons of bugs, I've had to restart my game several times because it was frozen.
I guess "retro style," is code for "making design choices that we moved passed decades ago because we know better."
I'm going to keep playing for now, and if it gets better, and I start to enjoy myself more; I'll change my review.
As of now, I'm irritated by it.
Edit: teetering on asking for a refund, because the idea of replaying the fights ive won and being at the mercy of the RNG makes my blood boil. Seriously, no auto save is so weak,
I decided not to refund, played a bit longer, and kept loosing progress because the game would freeze. And because there is no auto save -- Im forced to replay and replay. I wouldnt buy this game if it was on sale at this point. Unaccptable.

I'm trying to throw together a more in-depth and eloquent opinion, but, like, there's just not a lot here to talk about, and I'm just not into it. If you pictured a mostly mediocre, but passable turn-based strategy game in this model, then this is pretty much exactly it.
Hell, you can go play Battle for Westnoth for free, and that game is an equal or better level of quality while being noticeably more interesting, even if I didn't stick with it either.
Waayy too difficult. Seriously needs a difficulty setting.
Been trying map 3 10 times now, without any progress - insanely hard compared to map 1 & 2.

Very nice strategy game. As far as I have played, the units seem well balanced and varied to me.
Graphically the game shows its age, although overall it is visually pleasing; the gameplay however remains valid and current.
Great game that brought back memories from the old browser game. Everyone who enjoys old style, tactical, turn based games should try it, pretty cheap too. There are a lot of different units with diverse abilities and strategies you can use to win. Honestly, the game was easy. It took me 10 hours and only had to replay some battles to beat it.
Critisism: There are a lot of things that can be improved in the gameplay or simple quality of life features. The game should tell you how your attack or armor stats affect the damage output, so you can calculate yourself before engaging the enemy and getting surprised. Speaking of damage output, sometimes against stronger units you only do 1 damage, and other times you one-shot other units. Same happens to your units, didnt find it interesting. This needs rebalancing for sure. Money: Late game I had a tone of cash but didnt have something to use it. Also, music shouldnt stop everytime a character speaks, it takes you away from the moment. Adding a redo button prevents miss-clicks ruining your battle. I hope in the future more more battles are added in already existing campaigns, as well as adding more campaigns, there is a lot of potential here. Finally, difficulty options would make it more viable to a wider range of players
Bugs: Sometimes after battles, you click the button to continue and nothing happens, you cant exit this screen and you have to replay the battle if you didnt save during it. I encountered a bug where my elven archer units merged into one during the deployment phase, causing me to fight the battle with one less unit. It continued till the end of the campaign and I couldnt figure out how to fix it.
In conclusion, definitely try out this game if your into this genre, but the it needs to be "posished" and expanded a bit to truly reach its potential.
If on the 1st turn a Harpy can kill your main Unit with the highest health then its not a good game.
Also theres no 'Return/Do Over' unit button so you will make many many mistakes and have to reload rather than just put the unit mistake back to where they were.
Also some units like a Troll in a city/village only take minimal damage so can take 3-4 turns to kill. Thats one unit in a game where every mission has a disgracefully difficult Turn limit objective.
Good old school TTRPG.
I liked the simple game play and the old school feel. But this is a buggy mess. Over the course of 4 or 5 hours or so (had it running in the background while I did errands), it either locked up or crashed or didn't re-load to the point where I lost progress several different times, having to fight battles all over again. This is especially irritating when the battles run together and you don't get to go back to camp. Guess I'm used to current-day QoL things like autosave.
For an old role-playing player like me, who started playing the first edition of D&D in the 80s, Fantasy Kommander is a turn-based strategy game that perfectly recalls the beautiful atmospheres of battles of the past. Not to be missed for nostalgics and those who want to discover the strategic simulation part of the good old role-playing games.

Da non perdere per i nostalgici e chi vuole scoprire la parte strategica simulativa dei cari vecchi giochi di ruolo.
For $5 on sale, this is a no brainer for lovers of tactical combat like the original Fantasy General I. Have a catapult or two for the last battle of the first campaign or you can't take the cities against the regenerating Trolls.

Cool game, it brings me back to the time of the old RPGs on Amiga. Great music.
I've just started playing this after seeing Raptor stream it, it was instant love. The game is super basic looking, and not going to lie, has very dry graphics, but you can see that in the screenshots anyway. The game's strengths are definitely the battle system, voice overs, and strategic turn based combat.

An excellent turn-based strategy game. There are many rules and they cover every tactical aspect. The positioning of the armies and the types of terrain are very important and affect each type of unit in different ways. They are classic rules in highly simulation strategy games, but rare in fantasy games. Really a nice battle simulation with a good story and an interesting setting.
A real gem! Captivating graphics, a variety of factions and units, and a balanced combat system make each match thrilling. The narrative campaign is engaging. A perfect blend of tactical challenges and compelling storytelling!
I felt like I was playing a D&D miniatures battle in the 90s. Awesome.
