O jogo é uma merda, mas também é um bom jogo, dá vontade de ir jogando pra ver o quê acontece, deve ser uma experiência similar a jogar LOL.

O combate é bugado, repetitivo e extremamente frustrante; a exploração é frustrante e lenta; a história é confusa e difícil de acompanhar pela falta de direcionamento... Mas, apesar de ser um jogo extremamente frustrante, também tem um charme bem único e uma liberdade pouco comum nos jogos. Múltiplos finais e direções a tomar, vários elementos bem interessantes de simulação e interação com o cenário (muitas dessas interações são bem pouco claras, então tudo é descoberto na exploração).

De um modo geral é um jogo bem irritante, mas também bem interessante e diferente de qualquer outro por aí, creio que valha a pena justamente por ser único e ousar inovar. Se houvessem mudanças de QoL seria um jogo magnífico, como não há, diria que é um jogo que compensa jogar se tiver a paciência de lidar com múltiplas inconveniências, como garrafas voando na tua cabeça vindas de fora do cenário, tentar falar com alguém e ir embora pra pqp com uma bicicleta (a interação com os objetos fica basicamente no mesmo lugar), perder interações ocultas e que para vê-las novamente ter que rejogar tudo de novo, ter que lutar milhares de vezes da mesma forma, entre outros problemas que afetam diretamente o ritmo e a experiência como um todo. Por um tempo razoável até que funcionou comigo e achei um jogo genuinamente bom, se alguém conseguir ignorar os múltiplos problemas o jogo funcionará ainda mais e por mais tempo, por isso não posso deixar de recomendar, até levando em conta que estamos em um período em que a indústria tem cada vez menos criatividade.

Fading Afternoon is a side scrolling beat em’ up/open world action roleplaying game/”existential Yakuza crisis” simulator developed By Yeo, a russian game developer whose previous titles include The Friends of Ringo Ishikawa and Arrest of a Stone Buddha. In an FAQ at By Yeo’s website, the developer describes how the game was originally set in the 1980s U.S. before moving it to China over concerns that he would portray so much stuff wrong that it would affect the quality of the game. Soon thereafter he would move it to China and set the conflict of the game with the Triads, wanting to pay further homage to the likes of Hong Kong action movies like Arrest of a Stone Buddha before ultimately settling on the Yakuza and expanding on the various mini games and activities. Aside from that there hasn’t really been anything crazy development story wise that I’ve been able to find other than the announcement trailer releasing in July 2021. How about my encounter with the game? How did I come across it?

The gameplay for Fading Afternoon was once described as a combination of Yakuza, Shenmue and River City Ransom according to CerealSensei on Backlogg’d so shoutout to them. Would I agree with this? Yeah I can say that sounds pretty familiar in a sense, after all you have the literal Yakuza, events that lock you into certain pathways and potential endings in Shenmue and the pixelated side scrolling beat-em-up aspect of River City Ransom. The general idea of the gameplay is you can kind of bumble your way around the story and figure out what you want to do, but unless there’s a job market feature for Seiji that I didn’t discover you most likely will be joining back with the Azuma Family taking back the territory you need in order to get money, money that will be needed in order to pay for a hotel room or buy a new home. How do you get this money? Again the aforementioned territory takeover game, which involves you going around to several dots on the map that are color coordinated in order to either visit one of several businesses, explore for a bit or engage in a street brawl. For the sake of brevity, anything allied will either be black for Azuma or blue for Seiji (specifically the secondary office building), green is Tanaka, light red is Harada, dark red is Ando and white circles are neutral ground. If it’s a general location you’ll find a clear circle which will get filled when you visit it and discover whose territory this is, though keep in mind certain locations will only be discovered during specific story events and pathways. To take over territory you’ll need to enter an area and basically beat up/kill every enemy gangster there over a course of several week periods, with the star amount being equivalent to how many different times you’ll need to visit it (three stars means three visits and three different beatdown sessions) with the final means of full takeover being to visit one of two locations given to you to assassinate a “Shatei” (Yakuza lieutenant). This can be really random locations that you’ll either need to know the backgrounds by memory or you could rely on the likes of [spoiler]Kato (secondary office), a corrupt cop at the shrine (once you unlock the office) or I believe an informant who hangs out at the Pachinko Parlor.[/spoiler] Once you take it over it’s recommended that you buy more guards for a territory as it will now be assaulted periodically by rival Yakuza who want their turf back. If you do lose a territory, you can beat them all up again and regain it back, though like all locations if you visit it during one week then you won’t be able to visit it until the next week and that includes hiring guards.

That’s the general idea for the territory takeover, so my advice is whatever playthrough you decide to go down (as territory takeovers push the story forward) you’ll need a gun so you’ll need to head up to the Pawn Shop in the top right hand side of the map to buy one for 50,000 Yen. Other things to note exploration wise is that you’ll have four or so different places you can visit per week before it ends and moves onto the next week, that you’ll need to pay for a hotel room or get a home or else you’ll be homeless sleeping on a bench which will affect your permanent health pool and get you to lose respect. What’s respect? Well other than the obvious, the price to purchase guards will get lower the more respect you gain, though luckily you’ll be able to gain respect through buying certain suits (I think) and taking over territory. Other than taking over territories, there are things to do and businesses to go too though again some of it depends on branching narratives. Some places like the Massage Parlor and the Restaurant on Main Street will help you heal a bit (which you will need as your health will permanently drop by four points every day or higher due to constant damage or story events), while some places you can gamble like the Casino or talk to girls at the Hostess Club, where you can shill out cash in order to “romance” someone and bring them back to your place for s e x. Other places you’ll visit will basically be empty aside from some pedestrians perhaps unless there’s a random story that'll take place there in the future. The thing with the exploration is that while the map isn’t a super big map, there’s so much room for random events and hidden game mechanics that I struggle to even describe the overall scope, so what I can do is give you some tips.

How about combat? As I said, your health will get lower and lower as time runs out due to cancer so you’ll not only have permanent health decreases, but you’ll have to fight dudes at the same time. Some of the enemies you’ll find include: blonde guys with bottles, martial arts dudes with grey ponytails, and others that’ll require you to switch up variation wise. Now how do I feel about these two gameplay loops? Starting with the fights again, they’re not my favorite and considering the constant health loss I would say that I started to get really frustrated the further I went into the game. (Tl;dr, despite some frustrations and jank, I really loved the story branching RPG elements and admittedly some of the combat feels visceral and satisfying).

Ну, спустя 2 недели после обзора на "Ринго" можно выкатить и новый обзор на данный, не боясь этого слова, шедевр.

Начал писать через 2 недели, но так как я человек крайне продуктивный и следящий за временем, закончил чуть позже на пару дней (спустя 3 месяца…).

Соб-стве-нно:

С этой игрой вышла отдельная история: познакомился с ней в 4 утра июньского воскресенья, нифига не понимая, шо вообще тут делать. Видосов у туберов нет, спойлеров нет, разбираться пришлось самому — и так начался мой долгий и до сих пор идущий путь Самурая-Якудзы (может Ронина, может хозяина, а может пошёл я уже).

Сразу обозначу: периодически будут ссылки на "Друзей Ринго", но это больше про сеттинг. Разница между играми вообще не маленькая.

Как и в "Друзьях", тут приходится шустрить и суетиться, но теперь герой — не 16–18-летний пацан, а солидный дядя, и не просто старпёр при делах, а легенда, про которую до сих пор помнят и уважают.

Сюжет и атмосферу оставлю на десерт, начну с геймплея и боевой системы.

Герой уже статный, приёмы учить не надо, мастеров искать тоже: "сам могу, сам умею". Автор перенёс боёвку из прошлых игр, с поправкой на управление: какие-то удары на другие кнопки или их комбинации. Думаешь, если ты дофига умел нажимать кнопки ещё со времён "Ринго", тут будет просто? Нет, нифига, наивный.

Нововведение — разные типы врагов: "да как он задолбал уже с этой бутылкой", "да блин, как он меня опять кинул, я же далеко был". Валятся они быстрее, чем в предке, но на каждого нужен свой подход. Одним любимым ударом уже никого не сложишь, как тем самым 540-киком в "Ринго". Теперь приходится думать: кого брать в захват, кого контратаковать, от кого прилетит бутылка на -40 хп, когда у тебя 32 (люблю моих мальчиков (паскуда тварь)), кого гасить комбинациями сразу.

Очень зашла система контратаки, частично перекочевавшая из "Ареста" (arigato YEO-san): если противник бьёт рукой, можно в нужный момент перехватить его атаку и отправить его в места с белыми стенами и ужином через трубочку. Плюс выбивание оружия — нож, пистолет или самурайский, мать его, меч.

Бонусом — "Режим схватки"/"Рамбл мод": и попрактиковаться, и просто позалипать вечером для эстетики. Вкусно.

Теперь про сеттинг. Он тут абсолютно другой, чем в прошлых играх Шефа. Раньше приходилось следить за часами, тут времени меньше, но оно может быть и бесконечно. День делится на 3 стадии и меняется только при переходах между локациями. Хочешь стоять и кайфовать как Чинипра, глядя на Дотонбори возле отеля — пожалуйста, стой сколько влезет, ещё и пару кабин успеешь поломать.

Всё завязано на перемещениях, а не на таймере. Локации открываются по мере прохождения сюжета или отжима точек интереса. Есть мотивация плодить папки с сейвами (у меня их 10 штук), потому что некоторые места и обстоятельства иначе не увидеть. В играх YEO это отдельный фетиш.

Ещё важный момент "времени сюжета": каждый прожитый день отнимает немного ХП, а продвижение по сюжету — дофига. Так что кота за бубенцы не тянем. Надо быть вовремя, но если опоздал — подождём. Неспеша поторапливайся, всё в твоих руках.

По длительности игра — что-то среднее между "Ринго" и "Арестом". Я, страдалец бессонницы, начал в 4 утра, закончил к 8–9 и вообще не одуплил, что это было. Проходится на одном дыхании и затягивает.

Теперь сюжет. Он тут нeлинейный. Вы — 40-летний (нифига не 50) якудза-легенда Сейджи Маруяма, он же Годзуки. Отмотал 10 лет за убийство. При выходе из тюрьмы его встречают босс клана Азума и водитель Ивао и по дороге объясняют, что семья просела, времена уже не те: раньше бы встретили лимузином и девушками, а теперь "Сейджи, спаси нас, пожалуйста".

Герой получает немного денег и ночлежку на месяц. Ночью у него внезапно начинает литься малиновое варенье изо рта, и приходит понимание, что осталось недолго. По подсчётам учёных из Биробиджана — месяцев 4–6. Фанатское название игры: "Ты не доживёшь до Нового Года". Автор: я.

Но у самурая нет цели, есть только путь и тонны врагов, которым надо выломать кабины. Дальше — куча выборов. Сейджи может:

как послушный пёс бегать для босса;
отправить босса к гейшам и родственникам из Хиросимы, заняв его место;
стать паханом всего города;
пуститься в бега, спасая босса-лудомана;
закончить бомжом и умереть на лавочке.

The world is yours. Делайте, что считаете правильным. Есть энциклопедия от игроков, но и там люди ошибаются — может, вы найдёте то, что другие пропустили.
Как и раньше, прошлое Сейджи раскрывается мало. Из диалогов понятно, что он очень силён, в драке равных нет, плюс ещё тот Дон Жуан: склеить тян ему — как чихнуть. Вокруг куча персонажей со своими идеями (один Харада чего стоит), много крутых диалогов и курьёзов (драка возле школы — отдельный шедевр "после уроков").

Поднимается тема инертности героя: он принял свою судьбу и ко многому относится холодно. Надо будет — валыну покажет админше в массажке. Параллельно показывают, как всё хрупко, а кинуть могут в любой момент, особенно если ты мафиозник Маруяменко Сейджи Годзукович. Могут отправить на кичу, заставить убить босса другой семьи, чтобы не завалили Азуму, или вообще заставить терпеть, как "партнёры" убивают твою жену.

И да, Маруяма сам сел за убийство лучшего друга и может завалить босса, если тот заплатит меньше (по вашему выбору). Лояльность тут — фикция: пока нужен — ты молодец, потом — на свалку.

Теперь самое вкусное: атмосфера.

АУФ, ЭТО ЧЁ ЗА ПУШКА! Музыка и локации сделаны так, что игру хочется перепроходить, даже если инета нет. Музыка подстраивается под локации и сцены: офис Азумы, отель, ломбард, вывоз парней за город, финальные битвы, разборки в баре, встречи с женой. Когда трек идеально ложится в момент — это абсолютная атмосфера. Некоторые композиции я тупо слушаю перед сном.

Локации: воссоздан реальный квартал Дотонбори, старый город, смена времён года — 100 из 10 кабанов. Иногда просто хочешь стоять и смотреть.

Несюжетные ивенты: в "Ринго" можно было завести кота, тут — жену трёх типов (ищите сами). Приходя домой, ГГ может застать, как она готовит или убирает, а по пути — по-всякому взаимодействовать с окружением. Можно и нажраться в салат и свалиться: каждая жена отреагирует по-своему.

Есть вещи, которые словами не передать — их надо прочувствовать. Помимо этого, автор нам нам напоминает, кем бы ты ни жил, чтобы ты не делал конец у всех один - гранит или мрамор

В итоге: с радостью бы расписал все важные ивенты, но лучше вы увидите их сами. Если сомневаетесь насчёт покупки — она своих денег стоит вообще без вопросов. Очень круто видеть, делают красиво ребята из YEO&CO, и я реально жду их следующих шедевров.
