The game idea is awesome but the stupid loops you get into is actually making me not want to play im literally 20 minutes i had to start a new game cuz I was in a loop for an hour and just getting my cards stolen, and my biggest complaint is I was fighting the manager and I kid you not every time I had a sliver of a chance of doing damage he stole the card and repeatedly did it over and over there is no way you can pull the same card every time for every round that is so dysencouraging to want to play again mabye if they fix it I will come back and see but this is pretty stupid in my opinion and needs to be fixed

Super fun and addicting game. Only complaint: there's no menu or UI for any sort of effects that may happen. Often times I'm receiving effects or extra damage that doesn't get explained by any of the player cards or other info. Other than the random, ♥♥♥♥-ass effects, really enjoyable gameplay loop and would recommend. 9/10

I was locked into a loop for 30 minutes of my opponent constantly getting blackjacks and healing away any damage i had dealt before i gave up. Fun concept but needs balancing so things like that dont happen

Finally Finished the game. not 100% since that requires winning a game with all cards at least once and I'm out of time.

GOATED game, better than balatro. 10/10 would recommend, Hope they add more decks, make a deck builder or add more cards. I am done for now but honestly can't wait to come back.

Blackjack… but completely unhinged (in the best way)

Dungeons & Degenerate Gamblers is one of those games that sounds simple on paper — it’s basically blackjack — but then it goes completely off the rails in the best possible way.

At its core, you’re trying to hit 21 without busting(heh)… but instead of just playing against a dealer, you’re battling weird opponents in a grimy tavern, and every hand feels like a fight for survival.

What makes it so good is how it twists the rules. You’re not just drawing normal cards — you’re building a deck full of bizarre, powerful, and sometimes ridiculous effects. Cards can heal you, deal extra damage, completely change outcomes, or just throw chaos into the mix.

It turns blackjack into something that feels closer to a roguelike strategy game than a casino game.

Runs start simple, but before long you’re stacking synergies, pulling off wild combos, and somehow turning a basic hand into something broken and beautiful. When it clicks, it feels brilliant — like you’ve outsmarted the system instead of just getting lucky.

The vibe of the game really sells it too. The whole seedy tavern setting, full of dodgy gamblers and strange characters, gives it a unique personality that fits the gameplay perfectly.

It’s not perfect — sometimes the randomness can feel a bit rough, and you’ll definitely have runs where things just don’t go your way — but honestly, that’s part of the gamble.

If you like deckbuilders, roguelikes, or anything that takes a simple idea and pushes it into something creative and chaotic, this is absolutely worth your time.

A clever, strange, and addictive little game that proves even blackjack can become something special.

I like this game, but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ it can be infuriating.

The start's incredibly frustrating thanks to higher cards like the face cards showing up at the exact wrong time, and there being little opportunity to remove them after the first floor from my experience (i tend to go the hope path). Same goes for healing, outside of the hearts deck I can never find anything to heal me after a rough fight, but using the hearts deck basically locks you out of the basement because of Alucard. Otherwise though, game's a great time. The mechanics are interesting, the graphics are pleasing, and the characters you run into are fun.

Its a fun game with a lot of different card/deck combos to keep things interesting and they update the game enough to keep it interesting. It's cost was cheap considering how fun it is. I really enjoy the rat and wizard decks. I do wish there was more different paths you could take so that it wasn't only going to the upstairs or the downstairs. I'd like to have some new areas. Still, wonderful quality, fun to pick back up again every few months.

Feels more like Slay the Spire than Balatro but definitely a mix of both. I think the the difficulty curve isn't too bad but don't expect to win immediately or every run since it's so luck-oriented. I think my first win was 3 or 4 attempts in (spades deck). I haven't unlocked every deck yet but it seems like there is a pretty good variety.

Aesthetically, it's a pretty good game, especially the card designs

Sinceramente creo que este juego sufre errores de diseño, por ejemplo el portero que te tira 3 cartas en bucle su carta de 21 nunca se junta con otra para pasarse, de 30 turnos ni una vez se paso siempre coincidio que el 21 te lo saca para ganar, la dificultad se siente totalmente artificial

One of my favourite roguelikes of all time! It has enough variety and stuff to discover to be endlessly entertaining, while also not being too complex or hard to learn!
It's easy enough to have fun playing, but still challenging to win!
Same thing for the achievements; most are interesting challenges.. and then the last ones are just insanely challenging, and I have yet to get a few of them, even after 100 hours, but I WILL get them some day

At first, I was unsure about this game, since it seemed mostly luck-based; but as I progressed further into it, I become more familiar with its user-controllable aspects and was able to develop my own strategies. There are game mechanics that allow for different play styles.

It's a refreshing alternative to Balatro, which can get repetitive. I like how easy it is to pick up and play, as it doesn't require a huge time commitment.

I do think it could benefit from the addition of more cards, since I find myself frequently choosing the same ones.

A cute and fun gambling game. If you are looking for "Blackjack Balatro" it is not the same in terms of difficulty or depths of mechanics but the charm in the text and dialogue makes it a pleasant and much lower-stress way to throw a few hands down (and count cards as well as you can).

Sinceramente no me convence del todo, Llevo unas pocas partidas pero no me ha atrapado en lo más mínimo. Some people compare this to Balatro, but it was developed at same time and is much better in my opinion.

A blackjack where ANY card can be found and used in matches with unique effects and flavour. Along with that it's a roguelike with deck builing, "dungeon crawling" (exploring different options while keeping in mind your resources - money and HP) and unique opponents. Gambler who hopes for big hit? Or a guy that instead has strategy to make your life pain?

There are many different options and what makes it cooler is that enemies have deck just like you. It's not some NPC with score - they have tailored decks to have specific strategy.

Per gli amanti dei roguelike e dei giochi di carte è una droga, bellissmo, carte divertenti, un minimo di varietà sia nei nemici che nel deck building, un po' difficile da capire ma intrattenente (a mio parere 10 volte più di balatro, gioco ovviamente simile). Non aspettatevi la profondità o la dimensione di Isaac, ovviamente si parla di budget diversi, ma D&D gamblers è consigliatissimo (cambierei il nome e inizierei a pensare ad una espansione dei contenuti)

非常好玩的遊戲，讓人不斷的想再來一局。對手的形象設計非常有趣，其中兩個對手非常有印象，一個是狗狗，開局時他會說:「如果我贏了，我們就去散步。」十分可愛且生動的台詞。另一個敵人是"你的超級粉絲"，他會使用跟你一模一樣的排組(所以你組的有多強，對方就有多難贏)。諸如此類的對手設計，會讓人遊玩過程中會心一笑。

Хорошая залипалка на вечер, но слишком рандомная, особенно изза специфики самой игры, где ты вытягиваешь карты на рандоме и можешь на изи проиграть оппоненту тупо потому что ему выпадает точное число несколько раз подряд, плюсом собрать колоду довольно тяжело, ибо надо основываться на том, какая масть тебе будет полезнее и сможешь ли ты сбить блэкджек оппоненту

A really unqiue deckbuilder roguelike.
I do love the amount of combos one can do in this game however that is also the problem.
The game quickly devolves to, get a combo and then repeat until you win.

This is cause by some choices like allowing skipping cards however the game also doesn't have enough opponent variety to warrant many re-runs anyway.

It's a good game, but only like 1-2 hours of gameplay unless you wanna grind for achievements

I just realized the game's name, Dungeons & Degenerate Gamblers (DnDG), is a riff on Dungeons & Dragons (DnD). Anyway, this is a roguelike poker card battler similar to Balatro, except this time it's about Blackjack. Even though my knowledge of this type of poker game is limited, the simplified form Dungeons & Degenerate Gamblers provides is easy to learn, and the whacky non-poker cards the game offers are really fun to mess around with. I do, however, consider the build variety a bit limiting due to the rules of Blackjack, alongside the RNG being a prick as usual.

[h2]Things I Like About Dungeons & Degenerate Gamblers:[/h2]

[*][b]A Twist Of Blackjack:[/b] The gameplay is a simplified form of blackjack. You and your opponent take turns. Hit a card to score points. You can stand whenever you want. Scoring over 21 points will force a bust. Once both players Stand, the numbers will clash. The loser (the one with lower points) will suffer the deducted points as health damage. Then you discard the cards and take new ones. Unlike Balatro, discarded cards will shuffle back to your deck once you use up all cards. Player with a bust will suffer the full point damage. Scoring 21 points and winning the clash will trigger an additional bonus based on the suit. Simple.

[*][b]DON'T BE A DEGENERATE GAMBLER:[/b] The key to success is right there in the title. You are in a casino dungeon full of degenerate gamblers. The only way to win is to NOT become one. A little patience and a little restraint can go a long way. Patience and restraint are really important in the first two levels. Under no circumstances should you push your luck. Luck is a very moody lady. You never know when her benevolence will shift towards others. If you have a clear advantage over you opponent (more points) or have bad luck with the draw, Stands the round immediately. It is always wise to minimize the damage you take and to not ruin the advantage luck blesses you with. There is a reason why your health pool is greater than most of your opponents. It's way more preferable to take the chip damage than suffer a bust. Trust me.

[*][b]Ways To Win And "Cheat":[/b] Now that you keep your patience in check, it is time to win. There are two main ways for success in this game, and it's best to have any forms of both in your deck. First, score 21 as much as possible. This can be done by breaking 21 into number combinations like "10+11", "7+7+7", etc., then trying your best to adjust the deck accordingly. Second, and it's the most interesting part, observe their deck and "cheat" to force your opponent to either bust or take more damage. This can be done by utilizing various non-poker-related cards to mess your opponent up. Use cards to burn away your opponents' strong cards, throw a card into their Stand to force a bust, shift their max point so they can hardly score Blackjack, spend advantages to add more shenanigans into the play, and the list goes on and on. These two methods take time to learn, but once you get the gist of it, it's very satisfying to see your opponents fumble their strategies.

[*][b]Tons Of References:[/b] Imagine playing Blackjack and your opponent hits you with Gerald from Riviera and burns your card away. Imagine suffering a bust, then pulling out Dark Magician from Yu-Gi-Oh to save yourself from this disadvantage. Imagine paying 10 chips to inflate your opponent's card pool with the Pokémon card Charizard. Imagine using Terminate The Tower (Slay The Spire) to double the value of played cards with Break Limits (Limit Break), to change max score with Sweep The Leg (Leg Sweep), to deal damage directly with Scratch, or to deal and take double damage with Expulsion (Eruption).

[*][b]Limitation From Blackjack:[/b] The only thing that bothers me the most, other than the RNG which I unwillingly accept as a core part of the game, is the 21-point rule. 21 points is not that big of a number to achieve considering you have 1-9 and four 10s. However, the demand of scoring 21 points consistently, especially on the third level and beyond, hurts the build diversity. The idea generally favors smaller deck size. Excessive number cards can dilute the draw chance. Once you find the core cards, there's no reason to take any more, or else you risk losing the integrity of your build.

→當然這類遊戲最喜歡搞隨機，就連最簡單的敵人有時都能跟你迂迴上好幾回合，更別提開局第一場第一回合直接21點甩你臉，因此心態很重要，切記要有耐心，好好觀察自己與對手剩餘手牌，分數剛好高於對手時即可收手，即使無法超越對手也要喊停，幸運女神可不會每次都眷顧你的抽牌運，再說你的血量比對手高很多，容錯率高，與其賭運氣而爆牌傷害全吃，還不如承受一點小傷害為下一局做準備。
→遊戲卡牌除了滿滿的俗諺與迷因製成的卡牌外，也有許多跟牌組有關的遊戲彩蛋。
→至於缺點的話，我覺得21點的規則算是限制了玩法的多樣性。21算是個不太大的數字，很輕鬆就能拼湊出來，然而遊戲講究穩定得分21點的特性限制了組牌彈性，數字牌太多容易降低出牌容錯率，牌組一旦成形基本上所有獎勵與籌碼形同烏有，不像小丑牌還能幫一些無關緊要的牌加分，拿了甚至影響牌組穩定性。

Really fun! Some decks are a little challenging to learn, but I'm enjoying it. Not really anything like Balatro at all, so I don't know why it gets compared so much. It's a roguelike deck-builder themed after gambling, but that's where the similarities end.

As with Balatro (which is obviously the main comparison point for this game), I waited until I had 100% achievements before leaving my review. I found the game great for figuring out how to win but I do wish there was a bit of a tutorial. My first run took over an hour because I had to read everything and I think I made it to the second last encounter in the game, and it was extremely overwhelming. I think there should be something to help ease players into the game instead of just throwing them right at it, with what I think is the entire collection available right off the bat.

What I enjoyed about the game:
- Working through a "solution" to both the "upper" and "lower" paths was interesting. It was quite neat to see decks come together and be able to figure out what cards worked best.
- Discovering everything was a cool bit to the game. The different decks were great, as it forced you to play with a different playstyle.
- The "storyline" was pretty neat to see throughout the discovery process of the game. The spoiler of the ALL-IN difficulty, was also pretty cool to see.
- Finding a good "meta" strategy deck (there's a few good ways to play) was fun to discover on my own, it was cool to see what's good and where, especially with foil cards adding in a bit of difference.

The rest here is stuff that I would improve. Overall it's mostly nitpicking, but I feel like it's valid to the game. Some balancing changes could be made and maybe a few extra options, it feels way too rewarding to go "into" a game encounter and just skip/leave/exit right away. I don't think that it should be a reward to "do nothing" versus the possible negative downsides of facing an opponent. Overall, chips could also use a little bit more balancing I think... at least with the way I played, felt like I was always just at the slot machine with 900+ chips to go through.

- A QOL thing, but the game loads in a small window first and then full screens / whatever else... this breaks steam overlay windows every time
- The suits on the blackjack/max score do not indicate what the actual result will be. Hand example: 10 spades, a negative 11 of clubs, 2 of nothing, 9 of clubs, ace of hearts makes 21. The suits show 1 nothing 9 clubs, and 11 hearts, but the actual result is 10 shield, 11 heal.
- Save scumming is way too easy. When you save and quit, it sets you back at the start of any encounter... on the same random seed.
- Finding a consistent way to destroy opponents cards / mess with their deck makes things far too easy for small decks (most bosses) that rely on one/two cards
- In an "infinite scenario", having the dealer come in and say "this is taking too long" is lowkey a bummer. I think the option should be to call the dealer instead, or at least, be able to continue until you choose to leave it
- Holding r to restart does not increment the number of runs, nor does it break your winning streak
- I think cards in hand for opponents get played immediately... feels like there should be some strategy to where they're used, similar to cards for humans. Just instantly playing anything that would go "into the hand" (booster pack??) is a great way to nerf AI, but it feels unfair.
- The AI also seems to have some unfortunate decision making with respect to burning cards / doubling cards, it seems like there could be improvements made overall.
- "Random deck" allows you to hover over the cards to figure out your deck first (seems to be a 1.4.5 "QOL fix"?)
- Due to the ease of adding cards to the deck, the game becomes almost mindless where you're simply able to hit. As mentioned in other reviews, the best decks allow you to hit and hit and hit.
- The high card strategies are usually extremely underpowered by comparison, they require small deck strategies which are more easily countered by opponents.
- Minor arcana of deal 5 damage to you is just a 1/4 chance at the start of every encounter to ruin your health. It's great taking 10-15 damage because you lost the 1/4 roll, way too punishing of a card to be tosseed in randomly imo.

Overall, I would say that the game is a 6.5/10 IF you're playing for 100%. It's quite tedious, to the point that I had to put my gamespeed up to maximum just to feel like it wasn't a slog. In my 300+ hours of Balatro, I never turned my animation speed to more than 2x. If you're playing it as a little foray into the game and just something to casually play on the side, I would bump it up to 8.5/10. It's a great little game, but still a little unpolished with respect to strategies, and other ways to play.
