IMPORTANT NOTE: If playing this on Windows 10 or newer, achievement/goal completion text as well as the language options won't display. You can fix this by right-clicking the game's executable in FIle Explorer and setting compatibility mode to Windows 7. The dev doesn't seem to be updating it anymore so this workaround is likely permanent.
If someone just told you how this game plays, it would sound super clunky and frustrating. It's like a twin-stick shooter, except all you control is movement and your ship only fires based on what instruments and beats are playing in the level's song. It shouldn't work, but it totally does, though it certainly requires some getting used to. Each song has several difficulty settings but the starting one will be quite challenging until you get some upgrades to your shields and weapons, which are purchased using "wubs" that you pick up in the levels as you play. The kicker is that the upgrades are level specific so you have to power up in each one before you can take on its higher difficulties. Some might call this padding, but I think it's a smart system because different songs benefit from different sets of upgrades earlier on.
The music is all from small, independent artists (at least they were when the game came out) and each gets a little bio on the loading screens, which is really cool. I've added several to my "music to do list" to check out. The game's presentation has a real "90s shareware" vibe and that's not something I say as an insult. Anyone who was playing shareware in that decade probably knows exactly what I mean. From the UI, to the font choices to the pre-rendered enemy animations and background, this feels like it was a deliberate choice. It won't be to everyone's taste, but this is one retro art style you don't see reproduced often and I like seeing it here.
Unfortunately, the game is no longer being updated, so take heed of the note at the top to make it run optimally on your PC, but I did enjoy this. I've completed all 10 levels, but will probably keep this installed to keep chipping away at higher difficulties.

I got this game about 2 years ago in 2022 and when I got it, it didn't work at the time. Thankfully someone found a fix around that problem and now I am able to play it. I've known about this game since the kickstarter and I only played the demo once a long time ago. Since then I've been wanting to play this game for the longest time but couldn't because I didn't own a computer or laptop at the time. So when I did finally get a computer, I got this game back in 2022, when I got it I was disappointed that it didn't work at that time. Now that it works and I've been able to finally play the game I can confidently say that this is one of my favorite games of all time. It's a shame that the game is no longer being developed because I see a lot of potential in it. I love the concept, it reminds me of a game called Asteroids but with Dubstep music and I love that the game goes with the music. The only thing that I wish was added to the game was to give the ability to players to mod/create their own levels and mod their own enemies and ships. I think allowing players to do this would've kept the game going. I hope that one day there will be a Dub Wars 2 or that this game continues to be worked on at some point. As an EDM/Dubstep Artist myself, I would've loved to be in a game like this and I think others would as well. As of writing this, I've only played the game for 2 days but I will continue to play it for a long time. For those of you who read this far, try the game for yourself and if you have, I hope you like it as much as I do.
So, I am a Ouya supporter. The game was so standout on there for sure. Took a long time to try the steam version. The game still feels like a dance. But there was many changes, either cause of contract backouts or ending, or just trying to keep up in the market. I don't know about other games in this genre of market so can't speak to how DubWars is now. But do take into consideration the other reviews.
I still have my Ouya and DubWars on there. What I recall is, it was more fun and relaxed feeling until high beat intensity so your weapons were maxed and the enemies were flooding in. Then you had to do tighter turns and strategy. The reviews and my test of this version is showing enemies hunt you down hard and lots of down time in shooting. Not used to the keyboard either, but thats on me. Menus changed too, but no opinion on that. Upgrades are a feature that makes sense for a dev and player perspective, just not sure if DubWars needed them. In it's original design.
I don't actually know how I got DubWars on steam. It was either a handout for all the Ouya version buyers, or I just wanted to support here them here years ago, haha.
But yeah, if you want a neat experience it still has the place for it, but not at its price. Sale it hard. I had hoped it would of been the vintage of its time happy go lucky imagination powerfest of sick sound it once was still. But it modernized. And there is trade offs. Like the internet, webpages used to have their own personality, each one. But now they are all efficent, makes sense, and bland...
The game wont even start up anymore. Sad i actually really enjoyed playing this game in the past. I wanted to show a friend it and it wont start. It honestly shouldnt even be able to be sold if this is how it is.

Fun idea, I thought this would be this game's moment to shine, given Vampire Survivors' sudden rise to glory, as it offers similar "just move, auto shoot" gameplay, with the twist of weapons synced with cool dubstep music.
But came back to it to find the game won't even start anymore and devs apparently abandoned the project. So don't buy this.
Game doesn't launch when i hit play. Is there any way to play this on new systems?

What did the Wyrms ever do to me? Nothing, I suppose. Certainly nothing to have made me attack the meteor they live on. But here we are. Just me, my spaceship, and the Beat, fighting against a relentless wave of flying creatures.
I duck and dive and do all I can to avoid their breath and their projectiles and the direct attacks against my ship, waiting, holding out, hoping for the bass to drop.
The crescendo is building, and the Wyrms are gathering. This is it. This is the moment. It's now, or never.
And the Beat. Drops.
The laser beams erupt from my ship and tear through the swarm, flickering and flashing with the Beat. In an instant, the swarm is gone, and I know one thing for sure: this game's pretty good.
Bullet hell but you can fight back with some fire beats

ok so after reading a few reviews for this game i'm going to be straight out with you all, i'll also leave a smaller summary at the bottom for people who just want to skip it all.
Is this game worth it? Yes
Is the game hard? Yes and No, the more appropriate question would be does this game have a learning curve? Yes, Is it an easy learning curve? Also yes. The more you play the levels the more you will get used to the RHYTHM of the MUSIC for the level, imho don't let the reviews fool you but there is some truth behind them.
The gameplay is basic you get wubs (currency) that you use to upgrade your attacks each attack is tied to a certain beat that triggers your ships weaponry and you kill the enemies that appear on said levels based on the beat of the music, the entire basis of this game is timing, you need to time your shots and you need know the beat of the music to know what shots are going to appear, you need to balance dodging enemies as well as knowing what your next attack is going to be, some people might like this and some wont but to me this game would be like every other top down game with just music playing in the background as you defeat enemies if you could fire whenever you wanted, it doesn't add a challenge. The game can seem short once you get all the levels down and it comes down to replayability but overall its worth the price compared to other games you could get.
I do highly recommend you play with a controller but it is entirely possible to play this game (and to completion) using a keyboard and mouse just takes a lot of skill and that's what makes this game great, that feeling you get when you complete a level from start to end after the many retries you had to do.

While the game may have some faults to some people its very well flushed out and the self reward for completion is really good, this is a rythm game after all and its mostly well, dubstep (obvious but some people seem to miss the "Dub" part in the name) it may seem short but you will rack in a few hours playing every level and trying to defeat as many enemies as possible.
Goated but there is a lot happening on the screen at once
This game is fantastic, if you are a fan of Galaga, Geometry Wars, or twin stick shooters in general you will love the rythym based wave survival game.
You can definitely rush through the levels and get the "Completed it" personal trophy, but the real fun is in playing levels again and again to learn the patterns because you were so close last time. The music makes every level fun to come back to and I find myself wondering how they even matched the attacks to the music or if it was done by hand.
All in all you will not regret this purchase, full price or not. If you want a chill game to fill the go to slot when you want to pass time, this game is for you.

I have to give the creators credit for a really one-of-a-kind game concept. I saw the Penny Arcade review of this game years ago and couldn't quite get it out of my head. I finally picked it up last month and it's a great pick up and play game for when you want to unwind a little, but don't want to commit your whole evening -- just take a nice little break, enjoy some fun music, and feel like a boss when the beat drops.

One of the best dupstep rhythm games ever. Never played it before it was changed but i really like this game. I wish there was more songs and the last difficulty which says coming soon but i dont think this game will get another update.

If you like music games and have the slightest interest in EGM or Dubstep music you’ve got to check DubWars out. Using wub-wubs to defeat your incinerate your enemies is so entertaining you’ll be spraying bass-lasers for hours and hours.
Impossible to play on keyboard if you are not on QWERTY layout since you can't rebind the keys and they force you to use wasd to move.

Ну очень хотелось рассмотреть преимущественно с положительной стороны, правда.
Но:
- статичный бэкграунд
- часто сливающиеся с фоном враги
- невозможность убедиться в неуязвимости врага ВИЗУАЛЬНО (а только по поведению пули - то бишь на практике).
- концепт стрельбы - по одной пульке в звук каждого инструмента (именно не ограниченный по мощности, а буквально - по пульке). Причём очень обидно за авторов, которые, по сути, каждую пульку скриптовали! Такой труд - но с неправильным подходом, ЭХХХ...
- запутанные меню с плохой локализацией
- и самое важное, что меня вдребезги разочаровало: где-то на 7 уровне сломался переход на следующий, и я не могу пройти 3 последних песни, к ним нет доступа. Разрабы обсуждали эту тему на форуме...3 года назад, пообещав выкатить патч. Ну что же.
В нише музыкальных игр не так много годноты, чтобы "выжимать" каждый проект. Но есть определённая планка, после которой я уже больше ничего не могу, кроме как дизлойснуть.
Лучше поиграйте в Beat Hazard. Всё, что здесь меня расстраивало - там и не возникало.
Un juego de ritmo muy bonito graficamente pero es muy complicado, por lo cual me gusta ya que que te da muchas horas de juego, la musica es el punto fuerte de cada nivel. Simplemente es muy emocionante y adictivo tener que concentrarte en la abrumante cantidad de enemigos que tiene este juego.
Aun que no soy muy fan del dustep es un muy buen juego para cuando estes aburrido y si te gustan estos tipos de juegos de ritmo y musica deberias tener este juego.

As much as I'd like to support DubWars with a positive review, in good conscience I cannot recommend it.
The sales video & images shows how the game works pretty accurately. Piloting a ship in 2D space, you fire weapons at incoming enemies to the tune of some really solid EDM. Enemy types and your ship weapons vary from stage to stage, so each level feels fresh on its own. By defeating your foes, you can pick up an in-game currency to upgrade your weapons during between-stage menus. There's per-stage & per-difficulty challenges presented, and you can engage in score attack mechanics found in similar games.
...That's a pretty decent list of positives. However, the end result is actually less than the sum of its parts and do not add up to a pleasant game to play.
Your weapons fire in time to the music, completely independent of how or when you want to shoot; an interesting mechanic, but one that ultimately falls flat. It's not enjoyable when you've got a foe lined up in your sights, but the weapons/music won't cooperate. The lack of weapon control is highlighted during a song's breakdown, sometimes leaving you defenseless for a few seconds at a time. Mitigating danger and targeting specific enemies to make yourself safe is pretty much futile.
Enemy spawns are endlessly frustrating. They can show up from just about anywhere off screen, and sometimes from on screen itself without any warning whatsoever. To make things worse, the play field is perhaps 2x2 the size of your monitor, so you can't actively view the full field to know where danger lurks. Also, the majority of enemies don't fire projectiles. Instead, they charge directly at you (or fire a desperation homing missile when killed), so you must be on the move constantly to avoid taking hits.
These issues married together means three things: you don't know what areas are safe, you can't reliably shoot into an area to make it safe, and you're forever dodging into or through unsafe areas. The game feels unabashedly unfair to play.
The upside is that you have a life pool and don't die immediately upon getting hit, and like your weapons you can further upgrade your health total through upgrades. The downside is that you gotta grind for upgrades, and you gotta grind pretty hard. But there's only so much value in doing so -- your standard forward-firing weapon can't kill any enemy in a single shot, and it seems like there's a limit to how many times an enemy can be hit per second. So no control of weapons, there's no one-shotters, and you don't destroy things when you've fired enough shots at them. Lovely combination.
Not only that, but upgrades are locked to individual stages, so maxing out your weapons & health in stage 1 does nothing for all the subsequent stages. No matter how much you might like a song, I don't think anyone is interested in hearing it twenty times in a row in order to upgrade all your stuff.
And the cardinal sin of shmups: distracting backgrounds. Intermittent lighted trains moving across a darkened future city, glowing meteors falling onto a desolate planet... if you can't distinguish settings from enemies & projectiles, someone's made some very poor choices in the name of making a game look pretty.
No need to point out any of these failings to the devs. Between early access and post-release, the game's been available to the public for six years and this is their heavily flawed final result. And I do mean final; the majority of the team has left for greener pastures and no more updates are incoming. Knowing this, it's sad to see a fourth difficulty level in each stage locked with the comment, "Coming soon!" ...No, I'm afraid that's not so.
DubWars is an interesting game. But it's not a good one. If you love shmups, you might find something worthwhile in this mess beyond the solid soundtrack. Otherwise, save yourself a few bucks and load up Beat Hazard instead.

Ist auf jeden Fall eine lustige Idee
STG＋音ゲーという、曲に合わせて自動で発射される弾を操る一風変わったゲーム。
覚えゲーの側面はあるが、ダブステとショットエフェクトが彩る画面は中々爽快。
難易度はそこそこ高く初期状態だとあっさり落ちるため、最初は稼ぎ作業がメインとなり少しダレるかも。
また、ツインスティックシューターなので好みが分かれるかもしれない。
ちなみにサントラはないが（DLCの予定はあったらしい）、曲データはローカルにogg形式で保存されている。

DubWars tem o clássico tema de navinha, recuperando os estios retro dos consoles antigos, mas tem o seu som atual.
O seu objetivo e acabar com todos os inimigos no ritmo da música. O game fica bastante competitivo e frenético conforme o som muda.
O jogo tem uma variada opção de produtores de música do estilo do game e também contém upgrades pra sua nave ficar cada vez mais forte.
Minha nota para o game é : 10/10, adoro esse estilo de game e esse não deixou a desejar !!
This is awful... I'm a music guy and the premise sounds cool. Your ship fires to the beat of the song, it's really interesting until you realize what huge mess this is. The songs have so much downtime that it just comes to dodging the huge numers of enemies since you weapon won't fire and when it does, you never know what gun will fire. You have your target on one enemy and your weapon fires off in a completely different direction. You have no control over when or which weapon will fire. You have to memorize it throughout every song. To get a better ship you have to pick up cash drops that are spawned randomly by killing the enemies but you will mostly spend them on health, since there are a lot of undodgable situations here. So you upgraded your health to get through and want to start the next level, "excited" to upgrade your weapons... Yeah... No... In every song/lvl you have to start with a blank slate of a ship. You can't take your upgrades with you to the next level. The songs themselves aren't bad but nothing to write home about. Just run of the mill edm music if you ask me.
So... Would I recommend DubWars? Not even if you get it for free. It's awful, it really is. Just get Beat Hazard. It's an older titel but has awsome visuales, you can shoot yourself with a weapon of your own choosing, it also reacts to the beat of music and you can even use your own songs. Just get that instead of this.
Ich liebe ja Spiele die auf Musik reagieren. Nur is das spiel nicht ausgeglichen. Wenn die Musik gerade mal kaum vorhanden ist schießt das Schiff auch nicht aber die Gegner bleiben in der gleichen Geschwindigkeit. Bedeutet man kann sich nicht wehren. Dazu müsste bei solchen Gegner mengen die Steurung präziser sein. Es kommt mir vor als wenn das Schiff auf Seife rutscht. (Gespielt mit Tastatur und Controller) Die Musik ist recht gut. Die Razer Chroma unterstützung sieht auch recht gut aus. Leider kann man hier keine mitte machen bei den Empfehlungen darum gebe ich einen Daumen runter auch wenn das Spiel spaß macht.Im Sale kann man es sich vllt mal zu legen aber für 10€ würde ich nein sagen.

The progression is a bit wierd, so spread out your playthrough and play a round or two between other games, so you don't get tired of replaying the same tracks over and over in a row to unlock the other tracks.
It would be cool if there was a way to load your own tracks like Audio surf, but i fully understand that doing that and getting everything to sync up in a balanced way could be incredibly difficult. /2c
One of the worst games I have ever played, no controls setup, no apparent control of your weapons. The game ad made it out to be that you were creating your own beats by using weapons, definitely not the case. The weapons seemingly activate with the music, and you just move aroud to avoid damage. Terrible game, at least it was only $0.99...

Dubstep as far away from this one as you can. It’s dull, tedious and short. The length is artificially padded with having to replay levels, which is a chore and makes a boring game even more so.
The visuals are bland, despite being flashy and in one instance the background gave me an instant migraine, not hyperbole, an actual migraine.
The music is ok, not the best dub out there but it'll do. The problem is when you have to replay levels, and you will, the songs soon grate on you.
If you like score attack games, have low standards and enjoy dubstep then sure, but if you are in anyway not obsessed with that then just don’t play this.

Как БитХазард, только больше конкретики.
Летаем по экрану и стреляем по противникам, выдавая выстрелы в такт музыке. Очень энергично и динамично и ярко.
Описывать тут смысла нет, серьезно. Особенно, если вы знаете, что такое Beat Hazard.
Из плюсов:
-Музыка, подобрали хорошо, большую часть скачал, наслаждаюсь.
-Игроку надо лишь уворачиваться от противника и выжидать моменты пика музыки, сам игрок не стреляет
-Улучшения, под каждый трек
-Каждый трек имеет свою оригинальную и уникальную тему оформления
-Само собой большой плюс, что рассказывают об авторе трека и сам уровень имеет название песни

-Конечно же, ограниченность. Вы не можете загрузить свою музыку

-Вы НЕ стреляете, а лишь выжидаете такт и большой порыв музыки
-Первый трек для старта не самый лучший вариант, очень много моментов затишья, и ты просто шкеришься по углам
Конечно хотелось бы большего, чем 11 уровней, но вышло неплохо. Правда ту динамику БитХазарда я не ощутил, вроде и ярко и все шустро и в моменты самого пика трека лучи, прямо ощущаешь весь порыв, но чет не то. Хотя признаюсь - очень понравилось
кайфовая игра, просто крутишься, вертишься в такт и получаешь удовольствие, а прохождение уровней не так важно)
Только игра криво работает с двумя мониторами и фул скрине, мышка вылезает за пределы и игра сворачивается, благо это предусмотрели и ставится на паузу, но ритм все равно сбивается

Хорошаая игра,но не мой жанр.
Совмещение музыки и классического жанра.

Un joc misto cu un concept unic , intreagul joc se bazeaza doar pe melodii! Este un joc foarte interesant , dar si in unele cazuri frustrant! Totusi merita jucat daca va plac astfel de jocuri! 7/10

Корявенькая игра с такой же русификацией. Самолетик в замкнутом пространстве отстреливается попутно хватая бонусы. Примитивно. Есть в этом жанре намного лучше. Разработчик: MURA Interactive – согласен насчет муры.

A good twist on the classic Arcade Bullet Hell genre that adds more strategy to the way you play DubWars. Developed by MURA Interactive and published WOBBL3 Entertainment LLC, in which is the only game that the developer and publisher has put onto Steam.
[h1]Gameplay[/h1]
The main knack or mechanic of the game is the way that you shoot, you aren't able to manually shoot your bullets whenever you want but the beat of the song determines what bullets/lasers you shoot at what time. Whenever the beat drops you will shoot bullets automatically out of your ship, and with that you will have to survive until the song ends in order to progress and complete the level. Makes for more strategic shooting compared to other arcade bullet hell games.
As good as the main mechanic of the game is I have to question the games choices when it comes to upgrading. Throughout each level you would collect wubs, which are your upgrade points, and you will use this to increase your bullet damage/range and your health. Now the questionable design choice about this system is that your wubs won't carry on from level to level but instead are counted separately within each level. This means that upgrading your ship is separate for each level as well which just makes for slow and tedious progress making it slightly frustrating if your trying to complete each level on the hardest difficulty.
However despite this, there is a lot of variety to this game when it comes to level design and enemies. Each level is it's own twist for example one level there are 4 different coloured areas and at certain drops in the music it will change your weapon depending on which coloured area you're on. Then there's a level where you're in the middle of a space war between two different armies and you have to choose which one you want to go up against to complete the level. Pretty much all of the levels are quite different from one another and that makes for some great level design.
Unfortunately the game is kinda short, maybe about 2 - 3 hours depending on how good you are at bullet hell/arcade games, but unless your planning on beating the hardest difficulty on each levels then I'd say you'd be looking at more 15ish hours maybe a little more or less depending on your skill. However, beating the harder difficulties can take ages because of the questionable upgrading system that just slows down progress unnecessarily.
[h1]Graphics[/h1]
Now the graphics in Dubwars is probably the most vibrant I've seen in a good while, from the bullets that you shoot from the enemies. It's all very much like a rave and sort of gives you that feel with the dubstep music playing. However, sometimes there is just too much going on the screen at once, which is kind of the point of bullet hell genre but visually it's quite hard to figure out what's actually happening and what's shooting what.

The music throughout this game is great, obviously it's all very dubstep based music to get the most out of using beats in the game to time it with shooting. Each level had it's own music that would play and it's all quite varied so playing through the game normally shouldn't make you get bored of the music. However, lacks a bit when it comes to variety if you play the same level over and over again as it's the same song on every level even if you change the difficulty.

+ The main mechanic of the game is very unique and puts a nice spin for this type of genre
+ Great variety in level design, with pretty much every level having it's own knack to it
+ Very vibrant graphics
+ Music in the game is great, however I would've liked more variety considering you will play the same level over and over if you want to beat the hardest difficulty.

- Questionable upgrading system that isn't carried on throughout levels
- Fairly short for just completing each level, however trying to complete on harder difficulties can increase the playtime of the game but is very tedious because of the upgrade system
- Sometimes there can just be too much going on the screen at once and you won't know what's shooting what
[h1]Result / Final Thoughts[/h1]
Overall I think that Dubwars is a very solid Arcade, Bullet Hell game that puts a nice spin on the classic genre. Although it has it's problems like any game would, I think that it's still worth grabbing. But if you can hold up and wait for a sale, you might be getting your moneys worth if you're not a hardcore bullet hell fan.

Свои песни загружать нельзя. Геймплей примитивен. Прошу не путать с "геймплей прост": просто — не значит плохо. Кто играл в Audiosurf, тот поймёт. Уровней мало. Короче, контора-разработчик своё название оправдывает на 146%.

-nice graphic (neon themed stage fit for an EDM rave)
-nice dubstep songs ([u] Celldweller [/u], 'nuff said)
-nice weapons and its mechanics (you shoot with the beat, same as popping ectasy during a mosh)
-a hybrid between Touhou bullet hell and Audiosurf (you dodge, you shoot, you enjoy the music, what more could you ask for?)
[b] The Bad: [/b]
-the high price tag (probably for song licensing rights, but it could be a bit lower)
-no difficulty setup (some stages are easy while others are hard, don't be lazy please developers)
-no custom level (for that price tag you could at least give us a decent mode for making our own level with our preferred songs of choice)
-the number of stages (seems like the devs got an extreme hangover and decided to stop at 10)

-even if you're an EDM lover or a music-themed games enthusiast, don't buy this overpriced-lazy-piece-of-wasted-potential-masterpiece even during sales. [spoiler] better get it for free from some random website's giveaway or something like that. [/spoiler]

DubWars - аркадный шутер под бодрую электронную музыку талантливых исполнителей.
Что мы знаем про музыкальные игры? Все они бодрые, визуально красивые и в них приятно проводить время. DubWars не стала исключением.
На загрузке уровня нас знакомят с исполнителем трека, который будет звучать на уровне, ознакомительная информация никогда не бывает лишней.
Мы управляем истребителем, который самостоятельно в зависимости от темпа и стиля музыки на данный момент, стреляет большой разновидностью видов оружия. Уничтожать нам придется так же большую разновидность противников, каждый из которых имеет свой стиль, вид и орудия поражения.
Жизнь корабля, мощность и диапазон каждого оружия можно улучшать, путем покупки улучшений за собранные с уничтоженных противников так называемые "Sound" кредиты.
Игра не из легких, а так же имеет три уровня сложности, так что это отличное испытание для вас.

很另類的射擊遊戲，結合音樂，玩家本身不能發射武器，只有移動改變方向，發射武器全靠的音樂節湊射出不同效果
每關卡音樂上好像都是指定音樂，沒法變更自已想要或加入自已音樂，武器有等級設定，可依照自已每場得分下去分配，加強武器威力。
