A great game, a good length, no sense of grinding, the progress was mostly good to keep up with the story. For those who enjoy FF and similar JRPG you'll love this.
The Dragons' Twilight, developed and published by G. A. Williams, is a retro-inspired turn-based RPG that deliberately channels the spirit of 16-bit era fantasy adventures while smoothing out some of the more frustrating elements of classic design. Built with pixel-art visuals and a traditional overworld-to-dungeon structure, the game embraces nostalgia without feeling like a mere imitation. Its strength lies in careful pacing, meaningful combat decisions, and a narrative tone that balances high fantasy stakes with subtle humor.
The story centers on a looming draconic threat that endangers the world, anchored by the presence of a powerful dragon-god whose destructive potential overshadows every kingdom. Players follow a trio of protagonists—Alvar, Landric, and Valerie—each bringing distinct personalities and motivations to the journey. Rather than presenting flawless heroes, the game humanizes its cast through light self-awareness and character-driven dialogue. Their quest to resurrect an ancient dragon and counter the apocalyptic menace provides a straightforward narrative arc, but the character interactions add depth and charm beyond the central conflict.
Combat is turn-based and tactical, requiring deliberate decision-making rather than reliance on grinding. One of the game’s most appreciated features is the absence of random encounters. Enemies are visible on the map, allowing players to engage on their own terms. This design choice reduces unnecessary repetition and keeps progression focused. Battles emphasize skill selection, party synergy, and situational awareness. With a broad selection of abilities available through equipment customization, players are encouraged to experiment with different builds rather than sticking to rigid class archetypes.
Character progression is flexible and equipment-driven. Abilities are often tied to gear, meaning strategic swaps can significantly alter combat dynamics. This system rewards thoughtful preparation before major encounters and discourages brute-force tactics. Difficulty remains fair, presenting challenges that require adaptation without becoming punishing. Boss battles in particular test understanding of status effects, defensive timing, and resource management.
Exploration extends beyond combat. Dungeons feature environmental puzzles and navigation challenges that provide variety between battles. The overworld design encourages curiosity without overwhelming the player with excessive complexity. Towns serve as hubs for dialogue and light world-building, adding texture to the setting without resorting to lengthy exposition.
Visually, The Dragons’ Twilight embraces a colorful pixel-art aesthetic reminiscent of classic console RPGs. Character sprites and environments are detailed enough to convey personality while maintaining clarity during combat. The soundtrack complements the retro atmosphere with melodic themes that support exploration and battle sequences without dominating the experience. The presentation feels cohesive and polished within its indie scope.
The overall campaign offers substantial playtime for its modest scale, with steady pacing that avoids filler content. While the overarching narrative follows familiar fantasy conventions, its execution is sincere and engaging. The balance between serious world-ending stakes and occasional humor prevents tonal monotony, making the journey feel earnest yet approachable.
Ultimately, The Dragons’ Twilight succeeds by refining traditional RPG mechanics rather than reinventing them. Its emphasis on strategic combat, visible encounters, and equipment-based customization creates a rewarding gameplay loop that respects the player’s time. For fans of classic turn-based fantasy adventures seeking a thoughtfully designed indie experience, it stands as a strong example of how retro influences can be modernized without losing their original charm.
Rating: 7/10
"Game's totally not grindy"
2 hours of nothing but mob-slaying beg to differ. I was specifically looking for something that does not fit the worn out, boring mold of RPG maker games with more bad combat than other charms but this is definetely NOT it.
I bought this game for $3, but I feel like I got a lot more value than that out of it! I'm a sucker for a good RPGMaker game, and this did not disappoint. My final save ended up being 30 hours, which is great! The idea of having skills on your equipment gave me a lot to think about when choosing party roles and loadouts. There are seven characters total, and with equipment skills, magic tomes, and status enhancing tomes, there are a lot of options! Thankfully everyone gains full XP regardless of whether they're in the party, so you can use who you want. The late game artifact hunt was also a lot of fun. I enjoyed that I could get a couple of the ultimate weapons early on.
If there are any small criticisms, I would say the dialogue is a little clunky at times. But the story is pretty clearly written, so I can overlook that. Now for the sequel!
A pretty good rpg that has an amusing enough story and gameplay. Worth the time invested
Excellent Game!
It's so hard to find a good rpg maker game these days. Loved the story and the characters. I can't wait to play the sequel!
Funny and fun to play.
👍
There are still interesting RPG's around. This is one of them.
It has nearly everything I seek: an interesting story, not too much grinding, secrets...LOOT!
OK, some points are not so good, the story is interesting but the charactes are needed more meat...some more information about their background or some sidequests for each one.
Also I hated that quick time event....I mean the 1 minute race to get one of the best weapons.
Anyway, with (extended grinding from my side) I solved this game in 15.8 hours playtime....it was fun.
本质上就是一款非常眼熟的回合制战斗的游戏
熟悉的配方,老套的剧情
good
Awesome 90's JRPG vibes made a bit more friendly for the common player! and for 1.50$ its a steal'
I just finished playing through this game and finishing everything out it came in at just over 13 hours played. While nothing is custom in the artwork the story was interesting enough throughout to keep my going to where I finished it in just over 2 days of playing. The skills being tied to equipment was something you don't see much of and added an element of tactics to battles that's often lacking in RPGmaker games. You'll get your moneys worth at full price but if you get it on sale it is a steal. I look forward to playing the other games by this developer I only wish I hadn't let this one sit in my account so long without playing it.
un super jeux
Just replayed this enjoyable game again. Not to easy, not to hard, only minimal grinding, hero story with a twist, the characters are likeable, nice goodies and magic.... what not to love?
Will replay again after some time for sure.
This game (and its successor) are two of my all time favorites.
And the new one Legacy of Vane of course ;)
Short and sweet. Has a good sense of humor as well.
This game is actually really fun for a good old fashion RPG type. I like it a lot so far and I would recommend it.
Excellent classic JRPG. Made with standard RPG Maker stock material (I certainly don't mind that, it's what you do with it and how you tell the story that matters) and the mapping (interiors are rather sparse as well) could have been better but it's clearly a game made with passion.
The character interaction could have been more dynamic though but that's a minor complaint that doesn't really bother me..
Balance is excellent and there was no grinding necessary except for the end bosses who can be quite hard. Quirky characters with decent dialogue line, a rather standard cliché fantasy plot about saving the world against an attack of dragons but the game did have some plot twists.
Each character feels very different and as your team grows bigger (until 7 members, in the final battle even 8) you need to choose whom to use since you can only use 4 in battle, that's an aspect I like in these kind of games.
Really enjoyed the game though and looking forward to part two. Recommended, the designer is dedicated to the genre and deserves a thumbs up. Length of the game was just fine for me: no as epic in length as some other games in the genre but I found this one not too short and not too long.
If you love classic JRPG's from the golden era of the '90s and early 2000s then you should check this out, if you're new to the genre this is also a good one to start with and if you love RPG Maker Games you for sure should play it. There are for sure better ones available but I would still rate it amongst the better once. It's a fun game that never gets boring, only donwside for me is that I had to grind to beat the end bosses (I'm also not a fan of three end bosses in a row, keep it to one the next time please, did manage to beat them in a row though).
7/10
This game is truly a small gem.
I found it while rifling through maker games and the reviews were rather positive; I'll admit that having visible encounters won me over.
I wasn't expecting much, but the story goes way deeper than the (a little non-descriptive) summary. It has quirky humor that I really loved, fun eastereggs and actual character development! It's also really well-balanced, which sounds easy in a relatively simple game, but actually isn't – the difficulty is good, without becoming frustrating (a little at the end perhaps) or too easy.
The world is lovingly crafted, and I would have liked to know more about some of the characters. However, I realize that to be smoothly playable, the game needs a certain number of characters that don't serve a great purpose to the story, so that's not the dev's fault.
Speaking of that, when I looked something up for additional content (which actually exists, I love that in a game!), there were answers from the actual developer, which I think is a great sign that someone really cares, especially if they keep answering despite the release being no longer recent.
What irked me a little were a number of typos in dialogues and such, but considering that I spend twelve hours on that game, you can tell it didn't put me off.
(The ending felt a bit... odd, but that is my personal taste and perhaps due to the fact that I absolutely did not click with one of the protagonists. But again, if the characters are fleshed out enough that you can actually tell whether you like them or not, that's great! A lot of maker games do not have that, their protagonists are so bland that you struggle to care.)
Overall, this is a great game! I already bought the second part and I can't wait to get started.
I have a lot of fun with this game ! It's everything I like in old RPG
Honestly, it's a pretty neat, retro-style game. I like that the level grinding is virtually non-existent, there's a meaningful story and relatively engaging characters. There is no character creation, so fair warning, as that isn't a spoiler. Solid game, support an indie studio!
This is a fun and humorous game that also presents quite a challenge at certain points. I am enjoying my time playing it so far (almost 7 hours).
This first game got me hooked on this developers gaming style. Although being quite different from the avernum series by spidersoft, the clever writing, satisfying combat and character development are right up there. I tell you what, I dropped 7 bucks on all three games and I played almost 80 hours. Pop out another one of these and I'll buy it.
I've just finished this game after playing it on and off for the past Two and A half weeks. I've enjoyed it it has an interesting premise and I'm now going to be playing the sequel game. Definitely worth it. As far as a play through time it takes only 22-24 hours of play time to complete the whole game.
Great game
Ok, just finished the game, this one's better than i expected. Nothing spectacular, traditional Jrpg plot, Traditional turned based mechanics. The way to the next frame on towns/dungeons could've been designed better imo, but hey, not bad. kudos to the developer. 7/10
PS: 16hr playtime ingame. unlocked everything.
it's a good game with some logic thinking! and awwww Kaia.....that is ultra strong one!!!
Finished the game in 23 hours! good game!!
This game is excellent--it's playable without a guide but full of surprises. The dialogue is frequently very funny. And the ending was exciting.
The gameplay, while rather short compared to other RPGs I've played, was well thought out and engaging. I loved the story, I loved the characters, and I had fun with the little hunt for all the ultimates.
This is yet another retro pixel 2D top down high school dropout weeaboo RPG Maker fan fiction. RPG Maker is a pretty poor game engine designed, as the developers put it, for children to use. It allows people barely capable of working at Starbucks to make retro pixel Final Fantasy ripoffs.
While you can add your own art assets and so on to the RPG maker cookie cutter, the developer in this instance wasn't capable of it, making a game that really does scrape the bottom of the RPG Maker barrel, which in turn is made from the scrapings of all the other indie shovelware barrels. Reject fanfiction writing is the icing sugar on this garbage fire.
I've seen Russian Unity asset flips with better gameplay and writing.
Fun game, no masterpiece but entertaining and great value for money.
Fairly simple, but competently done battle systems, mostly easy but not mindless easy, bosses can push you, especially the optional ones. Basic combat, but the "skills from gear" thing does add some variety and strategy to it.
Plots fairly simple but a few nice twists. Characters well portrayed but with little development, dialogues good and often funny at times. Villains are sadly lacking though.
Overall it's a fun game that offers a lot of value for its money, but its nothing life changing. 7/10
It's worth playing, and the ending is just right. I won't spoil the story, even though there's no ending walkthrough of the game, it's better that it's played through. I liked that I didn't need to level grind as much, though it's recommended you don't shy from battles. What I didn't like... I don't think there is one. It was a fun game!
This is a good RPG. I suggest reading the novel by the same name. Could read it before or after playing this game.
Pros:
+ Good story
+ Good level design
+ Good battle system
+ Interesting plot twists
Neutral:
= Default assets, or so I've heard
= Can feel a bit tedious early on in the game for about an hour or two, prompting some to get bored and quit. But if you stick with the game through the less interesting part, you will be hooked and want to finish the game
= Based on a novel written by the dev; many of the flaws in the game are instantly understood and realized when you recognize that certain elements did not translate from book to game, or certain characters that did not exist in the novel lack development in the game...but at the same time, the elements that did translate from book to game did so very well, giving the game its strengths
= About 13 hours of playtime
Cons:
- It has numerous spelling errors that ought to be updated and fixed
- Inadequate character development for some of the party members
- World feels like it needs a few more cities and villages with no direct relevance to the main questline to feel truly alive
Other games by the same author:
Dragons' Twilight 2 is available, as well as a dungeon crawler set in the same universe called 7th Deep. Combined with the novel he wrote, its clear that he has a love for the fantasy universe he created, and for old school RPG games.
Bottom line: This is a good RPG.
What a joy this game was! I didn't expect much, and I figured, well, if I lose a few dollars, no biggie. This game is worth so much more! If you like classic JRPGs, this has everything you could want. A nice story, good game play, some treasure hunting....a lot of games get so seriously bogged down with the incredible amount of stuff you can do, and/or an intense, deep plot, that it's not relaxing, but feels like work/stress. This game is just fun. It's easy, entertaining, no need for grinding, visible monsters....This game reminds me of the games I started out on, years ago, and truly enjoyed. I'm looking forward to Dragons' Twilight II, which was just released.
PRO:
Interesting JRPG with nice gear mechanics (most items have an MP-free effect that can be applied during combat) and a decent plot with an acceptable amount of storytime.
CON:
A million spelling errors.
Let me start by saying Dragon's Twilight isn't a bad game, it's just a matter of whether it's worth your time or not.
Let's get the obvious out of the way first; yes, default is everywhere in this game. I don't believe there's a single piece of custom anything anywhere. Animations, Sprites, Tiles, Icons. All default. And, while I will be the first one to say that defaults doesn't automatically equal a bad game, it does take a toll on the game for reasons I am about to get into.
Let's talk about what I liked first. Number 1: The Writing, mainly the humor. This game is hilarious and very witty and will have you chuckling a lot as you play. It was the main motivator for me to continue playing. Though, there are a large amount of spelling and grammatical errors throughout. Number 2: the Gear System. You see, skills don't work in this game like they do in so many others (Level-up, get new skills, repeat). In this game, all of your skills (for the most part) come from your equipment. This adds a new level of strategy when choosing what to equip your characters with at what times. While one piece of gear might just have better stats than another, it also might not come with the skills you'd like to use. It was very fun system to play around with. And finally, Number 3: Difficulty. This might seem basic, but a balanced difficulty is hard to achieve but this game did it for the most part, at least the way I played.
Now for the not so good. Number 1: The Story. While the story isn't necessarily bad, I just found it uninteresting. Dragons wanna kill stuff, one hero must stop them, that kinda thing we've all seen before and this game's story wasn't doing things too unique or different to really reel me in. To it's credit though, it doesn't take itself too seriously, which is good. Number 2: Here's the big one, the combat. Now, while the combat isn't "Spam Attack = Profit" and you will be using different commands and items to win, it just gets SOOOO BORING after a couple hours. You'll be fighting the same group of enemies again and again (I don't know about you but I prefer Quality over Qauntity, which this game does the opposite of), watching the same animations play out over and over against battlers we've all seen a trillion times before. This is REALLY where custom art could've helped a lot in spicing the game up and making the large amount of boring encounters far more interesting.
I should also mention the puzzles, which are a mixed bag. Some were fun to play around with (The Mine Cart one was my favorite) but others are annoying and don't help the sloggy-feeling this game brings.
To summarize, this game started to feel like a chore a few hours in and that's never a good thing. I do want to say though, that this series has potential. The addition of custom art and spicing up the encounters and combat a bit will go a long way for this series and, according to the author, that's what he plans on doing. So, I'm very interested to see what the developer will make now after getting some feedback. However, I found this title just too much of a slog to finish at this time.
I really enjoyed the game, and very reminscent of 90's RPG's, which I loved. It was very straightforward, overall easy to figure out controls, etc, and what puzzles were included weren't overly complex. Challenging but not frustrating. Even if you missed some weapons, armor or magic, winning battles and the end bosses was still possible. The few drawbacks in my opinion was that it was a bit heavy on the "gay" jokes at one point, there were regular but minor spelling errors throughout, and there weren't changes in visiting locations or dialogue after a major event that was supposed to prompt them.
Things I'd like to see added: 1) an accessible world map would have been great in going back to get special armor/weapons, etc. 2) Easier changing/selecting of gear/magic out of battle, 3) Ability to swap characters and gear/weapons/magic in battle.
The biggest problem I had was that after finishing the end battle, there wasn't an option to save that I saw. The game just restarted itself back on the game menu screen. I left a dialogue open with Argus and Eris, stepped away for a couple of minutes to check dinner and returned to the menu screen, with it asking me if I wanted to continue. When I clicked continue, it took me back to pre end-battle, which I would have to do all over again to learn the final scenes of the game. So, I won't go back to do that just for end dialogue and credits. That was a real shame.
If you like JRPG games (or did), this game is worth it.
Got this game on sale and did not expect much out of it. However, I loved how the skills work with each other and each character's strengths and weaknesses. Pleasantly surprised about how good this game is. Almost done with the game tho. Wish it was longer.

I've played this game for a while and I absolutely love it. I bought it last year but sadly only have 13.6 hours. It's a really fun game and I can't wait to see what's next when I get back on! Would reccommend to anyone.
Seems like it will be an interesting game. Just bought it and started playing it. Navigating through the menus was a little strange at first, but once I got the hang of it it wasn't such a hassle. May try it with the controller next.
Neat little game overall. If you like the old style RPGs you'll like this.
I bought this game not so long ago, and enjoy playing it very much. It has some easy-to-do puzzles incorporated, and there is a bit of humour as well.
I also own the developer's "7th Deep" (love it), and hope to see more in the future from this dev.
enjoyed the game. a little short for me but overall pretty good. whens 2 coming out?
I'm not normally an RPG player but I'm really enjoying Dragons' Twilight. The story and characters are fun and there is some good humor thrown in. There are some puzzles that keep things interesting too. The battles are at times a bit challaging for me but you can always go back and fight easier enemies to level up. And you can save at anytime which is really nice. I'm nearing the end, preparing for the final battle but don't want it to end! I'm hoping to see a follow up to this game.
Dragon's Twilight is a great adventure. It's a well thought out RPG turn-based game that involves a lot of strategy. I've enjoyed building the characters and the challenges the enemies present. I believe I"m getting close to the end of the game; I hope a sequel is coming.
Very nice game
First note, the creator is a personal friend of mine, so I recieved the game for free in exchange for streaming it and giving honest feedback as I have the time for it. I've been able to relay some information to him to help fix minor bugs, typos, etc, as it is his first full game release as the process has been a good learning experience that can only improve not only in this title, but in future games as well.
So, to start the review itself, I'm roughly 3/4's of the way through the game currently by my estimate (and will update the review accordingly). As other reviewer's have stated, there are some minor spelling errors and the like, which don't detract terribly from what's being said or overall experience of the game. I've come across some odd bugs (walking through a building similar to no clipping), but to my knowledge, the creator has been watching my streams and fixing things as I come across them to the best of his abililty with the resources at hand. Any input that can be given and a bit of patience, I know he appreciates and can only improve upon.
Storyline seems entertaining and streamlined well enough. It doesn't really spent a ton of time in each area so it doesn't feel drug out while not rushing things too much. Things feel to move along nicely and are entertaining. The random NPCs you come across even have some entertaining dialogue outside of the "Go to the ice cave with the fire wand."
Battles are comparable to a lot of the 90's rpgs with how it's laid out. Attack, magic, skills, etc are easy to figure out and nicely customizable. There is *some* battle grindiness with the regular enemies where it's kill, heal, repeat, which you get with any game of the genre, but it's not bad. The areas aren't overly large where you find yourself itching to leave and get to the next town, as the story seems to push things along nicely with this respect.
Once I complete this game, I may update, but so far it looks like it's not a huge game, but fills in nicely when you want an old style rpg without dragging things out too much or feeling overly rushed at the same time. I'm enjoying it, especially for the creator's first game. I'm looking foward to finishing this and seeing what he comes out with next.
Solid RPGmaker Title so far, it feels like it has a lot of character to it.
If you're looking for the kind of game that Steam RPGmaker games offer, this is a solid one. The combat system is competent, and has had its moments so far where it gets genuinly fun, and it hasn't ever quite gotten boring yet, though your mileage may vary, with parallel mana and energy systems, so you have one resource for spells and abilities that only replenishes at specific locations like Inns, and another that instead starts low in every battle and builds up when you deal or are dealt damage, which fuels an entirely different set of abilities you can use. It's a fun system, and the combat seems very much focused on normal encounters being less difficult, to focus on the Bosses and similar opponents. It all works, and the game is clever and satisfying with they way they provide you with progression.
As for the story- It spends the first large chunk of the game switching between two disparate story threads, one about a down-on-his-luck hunter who's getting followed by a weird magic dog, and the other about a kid from a backwater village who none-too-subtly has a big destiny ahead of him, despite the boy being somewhat of a kindhearted idiot. The story has a great tone of subversion and messing with you, and a fun deadpan sense of humor that lets it keep a strait face where it counts, so the genuine parts of the story aren't undermining what's funny, and the funny parts don't undermine what's genuine. It's very competently handled, and it gives the game a fun character that I'm excited to see more of.
And, as a plus, the assets for characters, attacks, and monsters all seem to be custom, or at least modified from the generic assets you find in rpgmaker titles, and all look pretty good. There's a lot to like for a low price tag.
14 hours of game and finished with all best gear, and after doing some small grinding (got my characters to levels 43-41).
PROS:
- Decent Story and Storytelling (not the best, but drama is suitably introduced for overaching story and motivations, and the "main" characters are developed enough to establish interesting personalities)
- Combat System (Fluid, easy to understand, allows for variety of ways to deal with enemies but also allows for use of tested and true ATTACK ONLY strats to pass on the less interesting parts of the game)
- Magic and Skill System (lots of variety, most characters are not bound to exclusive magic/skill sets)
- Equipment (enough interesting gear to make me want explore the world)
- Story Guidance (whenever lost, special saving spot Crystal shows you the way - also, before final battle, a sage character can give you hints of where to go to acquire and see all gear)
- Comedy and Silliness (not the major point of the game, but a welcome addition)
- Absolutely NO Grind unless you want to grind
CONS:
- Story and Storytelling Gaps (some of the party's character motivations are never properly developed, others are hurried along)
- Shortness (14 hours of game to do everything, talked to everyone, etc etc)
- Railroading (open world map is small and scarcely populated with no random encounters, little to no diversion towards current objective, small quantity of side quests and optional areas)
- Too Focused Lore Development (lore and context given only through dialogues and only regarding current story, no world history books to explain the importace of certain locations and characters, without expanding to other things)
I think that's it. Overall a nice game and I enjoyed it, it scratched that nostalgic feel I have about 90s SNES JRPGs.
I WAS going to do an Einlanzer review first, but I guess I'll have to settle for this instead. What can i say about this game? This is RPGMaker, and it is fairly good, the music and dungeons are a bit repetitive, but this game feels a bit lackluster.
For some reason it feels like this is half a game, despite the story being relatively well written. My main reasoning for this is that I'm used to in RPGMaker games you to be around lv 50-70 when you reach the finale. In this game you are lv 30 if you do EVERYTHING. It feels short in that regard.
But I admit it was a good story, except for the final act which was kind of cliche. I will admit there were SEVERAL points before the finale that had me laughing at the seams, but the finale was a bit lackluster. But not a terrible game by any stretch of the mind.
simple game, but better than I expected.
this is a great game except that there is not a lot of coin given for the extemination of enemies. the amount given does not seem to be in tally with those enemies. this makes it very difficult to amass enough to be able to purchase equipment which then seems to be an exorbant rate for said items. I realize that a lot of experience points does upgrade the team but having better equipment and coinage would be a better idea. the concept of the game is wonderful especially having other teams and then coming together. It lends more to the game. Another bug is the slow loading of the game in some places especially when doing the puzzles- by the time the game has reloaded to the next screen - too many seconds have been lost to do this puzzle . these are minor problems in the game but overall I would recommend it to gamers.
This game is remarkably good. The art is clean and well-drawn, the music is catchy and the sound effects are unobtrusive. The turn-based gameplay and puzzles are forgiving (death isn't permanent unless you make some really bad dialogue choices). If you grind enough, the difficulty is manageable. The story held my attention to the end. I appreciate the humour and references to other series like Lufia and Final Fantasy, which I grew up with.
The only thing I've found wrong is the typos, which appear in almost every conversation and enemy group. However, the text is still readable. All in all, a very well done RPG with a satisfying ending and possible sequel hook.
[Note: This review was edited after I completed the game]
Just a little classic RPG with an interesting story, charming characters, lovely art and at least a good 12 hours of fun.
Glad I purchased it and hoping to see more from this developer!
I am a fan of RPG Maker games, but I normally played those that have steam achievements.
Although this game does not have steam achievements, I bought it due to the low price of under $2, but did not have high expectations. I just thought that it was another average, low price game to spend a boring evening.
I was pleasantly surprised!!! This game is beautifully made, with a very interesting storyline that keep you guessing who the bad guys were. Furthermore, when you follow the initial storyline, you get to play and see events through the eyes of different heroes, and also learn their specific strengths and abilities. This particular game also have an interesting twist in term of spells and special abilities. You need to find and equip yourself with different spell books (Fire, Water, Wind, Earth, Light and Dark) of different levels (ranging from Level 1 Spellbooks to Master level Spellbooks). The spells that a player can cast is not attached to a particular team member, but they are attached to spellbooks. This means that you can strategize and trade these books to various team members. Similarly, special abilities are attached to weapons instead of being learn by party members. So wielding different weapons will enable the same party member to have different sets of special abilities. Hence, spells and abilities are novel in that they are attached to objects instead of people. I love it.
I have played about 15 hours but am still not close to the end. I am at the point where I can enter the final battle. However, I am a completionist, and would like to get all the best tomes (spells), legendary weapons and best armors in the entire game. Interestingly enough there is an NPC that is close to the final battle to tell you what BEST items you are missing, the quests that are involved, and the location where these items can be found. Currently none of my items (spellbooks, weapons and armors) are among the BEST, and I realised that I have another 10-20 interesting sidequests to do instead of jumping into the final battle. Well, I might not even survive the final battle if I do not do all these sidequests. In retrospect, I enjoyed these game very much because there are many interesting things to do still.
I wrote this review because I only see 1 review for this game, and would like to recommend this game to other RPG gamers. I will also update my review when I finished getting all the top tier items, and finished the game.
For under $2, such an interesting and high quality game is definitely worth it.!!!
This game is very well put together and has the feel of a 90's RPG. The story also flows well. Would play more than once. 5 Stars!
I bought this game with no expectations, but ended up pleasantly surprised. For a first effort and for the price, Dragons' Twilight is a definitely a game worth checking out.
The maps are a bit sparse and there are a few grammatical/capitalization errors. However, what the developer does do with the more limited game map is fairly impressive. Never did I feel like there wasn't enough to explore. The story also is quite engaging with some rather decent character development. This development does fall away a bit toward the latter part of the game, particularly with the introduction of more characters. I actually found myself wanting to know more about certain characters and their connections to one another.
I think one area where the game does shine is in the "no grinding." Grinding, in these games, is often a gratuitous way to extend the game. Sprawling, maze-like dungeons are common and commonly detract from the overall game and story. That is not the case with Dragons' Twilight. Each dungeon area serves its purpose with none of the dreaded "when will this end" feeling you get in many games where, as the game goes on, dungeons become longer and more tedious. This lack of massive dungeons and lack of a need for grinding is incredibly refreshing.
Another area where this game shines is in the skills and magic features. Magic is attained not by leveling up, but by equipping different tomes. The same goes for skills, which are only attained based on the type of weapon and the gear that characters can equip. This makes the choices for what gear to equip, along with what party members to include far more interesting and flexible. Where one character might work wonderfully in one dungeon area, he/she might be a detriment in the next.
I would definitely recommend this game. It's by no means perfect, but it is quite engaging.
A fun and entertaining game. Very good story, and good game play. Just always remember to level :D
