Very cool game. The controls are a bit difficult since they are never explained, but you can see which buttons do anything if you press the game button which is at the top of the window when the game is not in full screen. You can also adjust the controls from there.
Emulated game.
This is tied to nostalgia and video game sessions with my brother back in the 90's.
Uses the same 3D map system as drakkhen, but everything else has been improved from combat to instance exploration. Some nitpicks here and there, but solid piece of history.

I played Drakken when I was growing up on the SNES. Sadly I never knew there was a sequel until I saw a video a few weeks ago. Glad this is on steam and it is a pretty good game.

Games like these where a part of my childhood and it feels good to relive some of those moments. This is an old school rpg and if you like that stuff then its definitely worth buying.

Really could have used a once-over or at least an emulator with more features. Dragon View is technically better than OG Drakkhen but somehow managed to age worse than Super Drakkhen by no longer being interestingly bad.
On paper DV has better gameplay just by virtue of letting you actually control the action. But in practice, it's a beat 'em up that gives enemies invincibility time after every hit so you're not allowed to combo or do anything more interesting than poking and running. The fights end up feeling more plain and redundant than having a whole automated party shambling around at once.
As an RPG, the fantasy story elements are mind-numbingly generic and all action maps are hallways so there's basically nothing to explore, just tiresomely backtrack. Every vertical screen transition is painfully slow as you watch the protagonist spend several seconds waddling up or down to the next screen. It's so bad that an emulator with a frame skip is practically a must, and this Steam version is missing that. This is a game so grindy that it pads out your ability to see the world map, where pro action replay codes to skip things like gathering money is one of the only ways to make it feel like it has any flow.
The game is technically better than Drakkhen. But, man, do I wish they added some polish. A smoother moving 3D map. Combo mechanics. An ability to equip multiple items and weapons using modern controllers with more buttons. Just a slight rebalancing on drop rates to make things less grindy. Faster vertical waddling. Fantasy beat 'em ups with RPG elements are a weirdly sparse genre to this day, so getting to see one of the oldest fulfill some of its potential would have been neat. Maybe enough weirdos like me spent money on this that Atari can fund a real sequel like with Yar. I'd love to see a game that's as bonkers weird as the original Drakkhen but continues the SNES tradition of improving its mechanics to be more playable.
As someone passionate about old and obscure games, it was hell of a experience. I wasn't expecting this game to be that good.
If you encounter a bug in the Ortah temple, just load the game normally (from within the game, not from the emulator).
BUGGED VERSION. Like most ROMS that you can download throughout the internet, this version crashes upon reaching the end of Ortah Temple. Do not buy this game. It takes about 6 hours to reach the bugged point, and Steam only refunds games that have been played for less than 2 hours.
Bieda RPG oryginalnie wydany w 1994 roku na SNES. Port PC jest w porządku, ale do sterowania koniecznie potrzebny jest pad. Uruchamia się i śmiga bezproblemowo. Jest to całkiem niezła gra a byłaby dobra, gdyby nie backtracking, nieczytelna główna mapa z widoku FPP, po której się poruszamy (można się łatwo zgubić)- jeśli wejdziemy do danej miejscówki to widok jest z boku i jest wtedy dużo lepiej. Fabularnie nawet nie pamiętam o co tu chodziło. Po prostu szedłem zgodnie ze wskazówkami od NPC. Wrogowie w danych miejscach po ponownym wejściu do nich odradzają się. Walka jest nawet Ok. Rozwój postaci minimalistyczny, na który nie mamy wpływu. Bardziej to gra akcji. Muzyka z czasem robi się irytująca. Niemniej jako całość wypada nawet dobrze. Ot niezły staroć dostępny nierzadko za kilka złotych. Tylko dla miłośników takich "wiekowych" produkcji. 6,5/10
Dragonview is a half decent SNES game. It's meant to be a sequel to the classic hardcore RPG Drakkhen (Dragon View's name in Japan being "Super Drakkhen") with a focus on a story that's a lot more action oriented than the original RPG.
Simply put, if you are a big fan of Drakkhen on SNES you will probably not like this game. The 2D story and battle elements feel loose and generic, the 3D engine looks inferior and pixelated compared to the SNES Drakkhen (which looked poly), and the soundtrack is a generic boring SNES reverb-laden fantasy soundtrack. Dragonview is just generic, in my opinion, and not worth the time of anyone.

An excellent Beat'Em Up RPG hybrid and an early entry into the Action RPG Sub-Genre, the wonderful music and beautiful sprite-work make this a feast for the eyes and ears. It makes you wonder why there aren't more like it and what would've happened if more games followed it's lead when it came out
One of the most underrated SNES RPGs. The story and dialog is simple and goofy as hell, but the game is very atmospheric and the combat is like a fun beat 'em up.
Definitely not a top tier JRPG, but it's a perfect, simple JRPG to just sit back and turn your brain off to.
Drakkhen's much more fun sequel. Throw boomerangs at toads for fun and profit.
many will say this is "just a ROM". Yes it is, but the key argument of emulation is it lets us play games we cannot buy anymore . Dragon view is one of the rarest and most expensive SNES titles and the fact it's available here is stunning. You should buy this if anything to show [ublisherswe just want to be able to buy these old games. I bought it and am glad I did. The game is a quasi sequel to Drakkhen and is a fantastic and unique action RPG.
Dragon View is an old B level action rpg from the ol' SNES. The game stars Alex, a young knight in training who's girlfriend gets kidnapped by monsters. From there, things take a very familiar turn with him seeking her out in order to save the land from demons. The gameplay is basic yet solid as it is a beat-em up with some basic platforming mixed in as well. The action isn't linear as other beat-em ups. The graphics are very nice for the time and day it was created. The soundtrack is solid and enjoyable. The tunes aren't exactly super memorable, they do fit the themes and setting rather well.
Since this is an old SNES game (how they were able to get the license, I don't know), you are getting the ROM with an emulator. I didn't have any issue with the emulator. Setting up my Logitech controller with it was super easy.
So why pick up this game? I recommend it for folks who are looking for a solid action RPG. It's a bit different from other games from the time. It is rather polished, but not to the same extent as some of the other big games from the time such as Super Mario RPG and Secret of Mana. I find this game rather enjoyable in short to medium bursts. The game has obvious, and sometimes frustrating, bursts of difficulty due to enemies having dramatic increases in attack and defense due to changes in areas. For 7 bucks, this is a great game to pick up. There's a reason that this game has such a cult following and it is a shame that it never caught on.
DragonView is a quite interesting obscure RPG that was originally released on the SNES. Over the years it has amassed a bit of a cult following due to some of the aspects that make it unique, and while it's arguably just above average in quality, its uniqueness is what makes it worth playing.
The story is probably the game's weakest point. It's a generic story about a hero in a fantasy setting having to save his girlfriend (and the world) from an evil wizard who wants to destroy the world. While not groundbreaking, it does a good job at keeping the player engaged, telling the story in a way reminiscent of dungeon masters in pen & paper roleplaying campaigns. NPC's dialogues will change depending on which part of the story the player's in, so there's always some incentive to go back to earlier areas to talk to everyone again.
What sets DragonView apart from other action RPGs? The combat and the structure. While the game remains relatively linear from beginning to end in terms of the order in which you have to do things, the open world gives the player freedom to explore almost every area early on, with plenty of secrets to be found around the continent. The open world exploration has a first person perspective, whereas dungeons and random encounters are done as side-scrolling beat 'em ups, fusing the RPG and beat 'em up genre very well. That said, the game will etiher be too easy or too hard depending on how much you're willing to grind, thankfully, levelling up isn't too hard.
The dungeon design is good, for the most part. It can be a bit confusing at times, and so can the overworld map. The directions NPCs give you are usually clear, but even then the first person perspective can make exploration a bit of a hassle.
When it comes to the game's presentation, visually speaking it doesn't look too bad, but it definitely won't blow your mind, although I have to admit the sprite's animations are impressive for its time. Soundtrack could have been better, although it does have a few highlights here and there.
Why do I recommend DragonView, considering its age and the fact that this is basically an emulator + ROM bundle? Honestly, despite its shortcomings it's a very interesting experience that I think is worth playing to this day due to its unique qualities. The emulator it comes with is not particularly good, so you can always take the ROM from the folder and play it through another one. While cheesy at times, the game manages to retain a certain charm to it that not many other games that have attempted to fuse the beat 'em up and RPG genres have. It took me around 8 hours to beat the game having gotten almost every single optional upgrade and without having done much grinding.

This game does everything a video game is supposed to do. Always entertaining but with a bit of a challenge to it. Love the battle system, not boring turn based like most RPG'S. Well worth the meagre price they charge !
After the SNES-port of the original DRAKKHEN, which was ambitious yet simply not made for consoles, there was Dragon View aka Super Drakkhen.
For an SNES-title, it's still a bit ambitious since it merges a bit of mid-90's style DOS-RPG's, a barebones leveling-system, and a combination of 2D-platformer+beat'em'up. The hitboxes can be tricky to learn, but they're managable.
When I first played it, it felt really odd in the beginning. Finding your way and remembering important spots on the map is a little hard, but it's not that bad (the areas are not THAT big, actually, the maps you acquire are just not that great either). There is some variety in the regions you explore, there are a few puzzles here and there, and you get a lot of little secrets to find, especially upgrades to weapons/health/armor/magic; all of which are really handy.
The story is very cliché and NPC-dialogues are typically more cringeworthy than anything. All in all tho, the game is a fairly unique and fun package and when on sale, it's cheap as chips on Steam.
Small spoiler for easy level-ups:
If you want to make combat much easier, just get an ice-ring and a few extra-stars for magic and then you can repeatedly clear out a specific forest-area in the very north of the swamps; There are two paths with 3 giants each, group them up and use the ice-ring a few times, leave, repeat. Those giants give tons of XP and as long as you stay out of their range, they're easily dodged.
Good JRPG from the 16 bits era. The main difficulty is to find your path on the giant 3d map without any real mark to help you. A sound latency might happen after playing for a while or if you alt tab to much.
This is action rpg with good length from the SNES era that I enjoyed back then. In this version is well emulated, and it has the quick save feature just in case you get stuck. It may be cheating, but it does help in very tedious situations.

This is a must play for any fans of Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link! Great story great pacing and awesome graphics! This game plays like smooth a modern retro title, (The messenger, Bloodstained curse of the moon) Different type of game but the controls are spot on! If you like Action Rpgs or just great games in general this will be a great way to spend 5 bucks!
This game is, in my humble opinion, a masterpiece of SNES era design. The story is uniquely told through an almost storybook presentation, and you control a warrior named Alex- questing to rescue his beloved from the clutches of an evil wizard. It's simple, but effective- with an omnipotent narrator seemingly watching events unfold as you play.
Gameplay is a hybrid between first-person exploration of a quite pretty(if somewhat spacious) overworld, and a hack n slash 2D fighting in dungeons, overworld encounters and towns. You'll slice and dice with a standard sword and a not so standard bladed disc of awesome known as the Hauza; both have a pleasant mix of animations and sound effects combining to ensure combat has a satisfying crunch. You'll gain experience, upgrade both weapons and armor(with lovely sprite/color changes for all three), and even equip and enhance various elemental magicks. Friendly wizards are not to be passed by, especially if they appear stranded.
Dragonview never feels like a grind, thanks to smart enemy placement, some clever abilities(Sword and Hauza Arts are a life saver) and simply good design all around. Around the gorgeous map you'll find stars, these will glow blue when you've wandered across two that connect, and serve as warp points. Other unique features might be accessible with correct items.
Graphics are a pleasant surprise for the time, with verdant greens and desolate plains, excellent large sprites for each enemy and environment, and a variety of effects like weather and fire. The overworld is full of strange areas, from achingly sweet grasslands, snowtouched mountains, eerie swamps, and hellish infernos. Dungeons have a mix of environments too, with no place feeling cookie-cutter or devoid of detail, and each town is a unique place with a delightful array of NPCS. Personality is a huge factor here; you'll find a girl swinging her legs on a water barrel, a concerned father trying to reconnect with his daughter, a shopkeep with a personal quest, and a spooky robed figure always willing to sell you something you can't find anywhere else...
Special mention to the map itself, a delightfully varied place full of color and mystery- even if you can't explore every corner, sadly.
A few negatives might be the combat system still having some kinks to work out with hit detection, some over powered baddies if you wander too far, and the in-game maps you can access occasionally not overlapping to where you currently are. It happens rarely, but can be frustrating. Guides are available online, and several are invaluable.
And finally, the music- it's absolutely gorgeous. 16-bit symphonies of heartfelt tunes range from heroic anthems, spooky sirens, and themes to make you adventure into the sunset to fight monsters. Areas have unique themes, and even some towns do too! The particular theme that plays in the first few grassy overworld sections are my favorites, and just sound delightfully "homey".
At any rate, I loved this game, and I think you would too.
Dragonview is an ARPG that I actually hadn't heard of before seeing it here on Steam. Overall it is a fairly poor offering, but I did at least enjoy it enough to keep playing until the end.
The game world is robust, including many well populated towns, dungeons, optional and secret locations. The story is likewise given a fair amount of focus, and while it is not anything out of the ordinary, it is well done and will hold your attention.
The gameplay offers a wide variety of enemies to face, and the dungeons are filled with hazards and traps. Normal enemies are not extremely difficult, but you may regret it if you take them too lightly. Bosses can be very challenging at the start of the game, but their difficulty gets erratic later on. I played a level where I had to struggle against the normal enemies, only to knock out the boss easily and without taking damage.
The damage mechanic is a simple ATK-DEF, so if your defense is higher than the enemy attack, they will be almost completely ineffective against you... this includes bosses. Another unfortunate fact that exacerbates this is that it is very easy to over-level just in the normal course of exploring the world. Who wants to fight bosses that can't even hurt you?
The level design gets repetitive, as annoyingly the levels all contain area loops. By this I mean you go in a circle, end up where you started, and the door locks behind you. The idea being to find the correct branch in the path that leads further in. It gets old fast. I prefer dungeons that reward exploration, but there is little of that.
Overall? You'd be safe enough giving this one a pass. I gave it a positive review only based on the first two hours of gameplay, and am now regretting it. I don't say it deserves a negative review, but I would prefer something like a neutral review.

Dragon View ist eine echt clevere Mischung aus Rollenspiel und Beat' em Up-Brawler. Ihr mögt die Strukturen klassischer Rollenspiele, habt aber keinen Bock auf Rundenkämpfe? Dann schaut euch dieses Spiel an! Die Fights sind leicht zu steuern, actionreich und hängen letztendlich doch von den Statistikwerten des Helden ab. Soll heißen, dass der Spieler den Schwierigkeitsgrad durch das Allheilmittel „Grinding“ selbst bestimmen kann. Ist der aktuelle Bossgegner zu hart, können ein paar Level-Ups wahre Wunder wirken. Negativ betrachtet ist der Einfluss der Statistika vielleicht sogar zu eingreifend, aber wie auch immer. Die andere große Besonderheit im Spiel ist natürlich die 3D-Karte, welche eine Semi-Open-World offenbart, die so einige Power-Ups und Schätze versteckt hält. Hierdurch lädt das Spiel sowohl zum Erkunden, als auch zum Verirren ein, denn Karten für die Oberwelt bekommt man erst nach und nach zur Verfügung gestellt. Schade, dass sich die Oberweltkarte etwas sperrig anfühlt. Auch die Ladezeiten beim Übergang in neue Levelabschnitte zerren auf Dauer an den Nerven. Diese gewöhnungsbedürftige Zähigkeit ist dann auch der große Knackpunkt an Dragon View. Dennoch ist das Spiel ein waschechter Geheimtipp, den ich jedem Interessierten wärmstens empfehlen kann.

This is an emulator + ROM bundle.
But it's a good way to legally have an actually half decent SNES game to play, if a little cheesy in parts. It's meant to be a sequel to the classic hardcore RPG Drakkhen (Dragon View's name in Japan being "Super Drakkhen") with a focus on a story that's a lot more action oriented than the original RPG.
It uses Mednafen which is a decent emulator. It has simple control options(supporting controllers), a "Smoothing" filter which appears to be a simple bilinear filter, and ten save state slots.
If you wanna play this in another emulator, the ROM itself is in "<game folder>/res/game" and is a 2MB ROM. I recommend BizHawk(you'll need to add the ".sfc" extension or it will not load), or higan(extremely accurate emulator, high sysreqs)
It's been modified to remove all the old Kemco branding - I can't quickly tell if it's been patched in any other way(such as bug fixes etc)
Pros:

nice backdrop art in fullscreen
Controls are snappy and there's no noticeable input lag
Cons:
Display mode is not 4:3 aspect, game looks squished horizontally.
Only one filtering option - no upscaling filters or retro feel/CRT filters.
No option to turn off the borders in fullscreen (though they're nice, still no option to turn off)
Verdict: I recommend this, because Dragon View is a good game, and the only complaints I have are with the emulator which I feel is lacking in features a little. It's well worth the five bucks if you want a legal way to play the game(given you'd be paying upwards of a hundred bucks for an original cartridge).

アクションRPGでストーリ分岐なし、フィールド(3D)+ダンジョン(奥行のある2D)の構成
戦闘中の操作はシンプルで攻撃、ジャンプ、移動(ダッシュなし)、アイテム(+魔法)だけ
フィールドのみシンボルエンカウントで逃走不可
気になったらとりあえず動画でも探せばいいと思うよ
SFC版と比べて良いところ
・どのタイミングでも使えるクイックセーブ、ロードがあるから無駄な作業をしなくて済む(最大9個、ゲームを終了しても消えない)
分岐で一方通行だった時のやり直し、ダンジョン内で敵に負けた後セーブポイントからやり直す必要がない、ゲーム起動後すぐにロード
注意点は敵に負けた時にもクイックセーブが使えるので間違えて上書きすると実質使用不可のデータになるので必ず複数作成する事(実際に1度やらかした)
・自由に設定できるキーコンフィグがあり2つまで保存可能、キーボード操作にも対応
・PCでプレイできる
・カセットをフーフーしなくてもいい
・ちょっとした衝撃でセーブデータが吹っ飛ばない
SFC版と比べて悪いところ
・字幕が日本語じゃない
良くも悪くもSFC版のままなので、地図やメニューボタンを押して操作可能になるまで2秒くらいかかるから開くのが割と億劫になる
街で家を出入りするのも同上
CPU負荷はほぼシングル(i5 6500で3.6Ghz、1コアだけ使用率約25%)、メモリ約30MB、グラボクロック上がらず使用率だけ上昇、ゲームデータ約11MB
タブレットのatomでもできそう

In the mood for an obscure 90s SNES RPG that pretty much no one played? Dragonview might be what you're looking for. Piko's output is kind of hit and miss, but this one is a legit hidden gem that was totally overlooked at the time and worth a few bucks if you enjoy retro games.
Dragonview is a strange blend of first-person exploration and third-person hack-and-slash combat. You wander around an overworld map that's legitimately in 3D -running on the Drakkhen engine- and is pretty fun to explore, given the age of the game. Towns and dungeons are in a side-scrolling beat-em-up view a bit like Knights Of The Round, that sort of thing. The beat-em-up action is very well implemented, and handles nicely. As with most ARPGs of the time, your power increases with levels, so difficulty can be mitigated by grinding. (and it's not *that* tough) You've also got the usual assortment of Zelda-esque magical doodads which can be used to attack enemies and solve puzzles.
So, it's fun. The dungeons are well-constructed, and the difficulty level is actually pretty balanced compared to other games of the era. Although it isn't shy about brutalizing you if you wander into a high-level area you shouldn't be in. Save(scum) often!
Otherwise, you're a hero slashing his way through countless enemies to save his girlfriend and kill the bad wizard, so don't expect a plot that's terribly deep. But, it's actually better-written than some contemporaries, and NPC dialogue frequently updates, which is a nice touch. Oh, and the music is nice enough, although a bit cliched - lots of flutes and pizzicato strings.
And... that's really it. This is a 16-bit game, after all.
One might wish that there were more to this package than just a ROM+emulator but it is what it is, and what it is is a forgotten classic. If this sounds like something you might like, you probably will.
