First, the positive side:
The game is 100% about driving. No more gymkhana, driving school, destruction races or "impress the audience to get fans and xp" challenges like in the previous games.
The non rally races are actually lot of fun
The game run well on Steam deck
That's all.
Now for the negative side:
The rally driving is "fine" but it's a downgrade compared to the previous Dirt games (especially Dirt 3).
The game looks outdated, like a 2010 game.
it reminds me a bit of the earlier WRC games, something made by a rather small studio with limited budget. Not by a top tier racing game studio like Codemasters...
There is something off with the car physics', most cars feels too light, almost like if you're driving a car made off cardboards
The driving feels particularly weird during rainy races.
The AI is terrible: some races you drive really well but end up in 4th placez and some races you drive like crap, leave the track for 30 secondbut still end in 1st place with 1 minute 30 seconds ahead. It makes no sense.
The copilot advises come way too early, sometimes even before you have completed the previous one.
But the biggest flaw of this game is how repetitive and stretched it is.
The career mode takes about 40-50 hours to complete. It wouldn't be a problem if the game has tons of things to do (like a Forza horizon) except that you have to drive the same races over and over again, only slightly modified using generated randomiser.
After the 30 hours mark, I gave up.
Devs, if you want to make your game last longer, have some fun challenges like run races backward for example. But stretching the game driving the same races over and over it's just boring ....

So first they release it in a state where the cars handle like they're on ice and oversteer when you sneeze, they don't let you adjust steering linearity (which is essential when using game pad sticks for steering) and now they just pull the servers offline without notice instead of fixing everything that made it almost unplayable with anything but a whole steering wheel setup?
No more codemasters for me.
Zdecydowanie bardziej przystępniejszy tytuł dla graczy, którzy nie oczekują realizmu na najwyższym poziomie, a poziom trudności jest bardziej zrównoważony i mamy możliwość jego ręcznego ustawienia w przeciwieństwie do Dirt Rally. Gra wygląda bardzo dobrze na komputerach, a jednocześnie sesje na SteamDecku wciągają, bo tytuł jest bardzo dobrze zoptymalizowany, chociaż oczywiście trzeba zrezygnować z fajerwerek graficznych. Oczywiście jeśli chcemy zaliczyć wszystko w karierze jednego gracza, to zajmie nam to naprawdę sporo czasu.

DiRT 4 - очень хороший автосимулятор со множеством трасс, турниров и режимов.
Разных турниров и чемпионатов в игре действительно большое количество и на прохождение всего уйдет приличное количество времени.
По большей части турниры состоят из разного рода соревновании по специально подготовленным трассам из точки А в точку Б. Трассы могут быть совершенно разными в плане дорог. Поэтому в зависимости от покрытия дорог, нужно быть готовым ко всему, и адаптируясь к дороге, как можно быстрее проехать трассу за наименьшее количество времени. Поэтому в зависимости от дорог, наша выбранная машина будет чувствовать себя и ездить по разному.
Тем не менее перед началом игры, мы можем выбрать игровой режим - "Аркадный" или "Автосимулятор", то бишь разработчики пытались угодить как аркадным гонщикам, так и любителям симуляторов, где сложность вождения повышается. Поэтому я считаю, что для DiRT 4 найдется место каждому игроку.
Так как здесь у нас, как писал выше, большое количество турниров, а значит и большое количество трасс и так далее. Тем не менее эти генерируемые трассы не отличается большим разнообразием. Они немного друг на друга похожи и порой при прохождении приличного количества турниров, ощущается некоего рода дежавю, что ту или иную трассу мы как будто проходили. Так же и с другими режимами, например, кольцевыми гонками. Одна и та же кольцевая локация может попадаться несколько раз в турнирах лишь с изменением погоды или маршрутом самой трассы. Но несмотря на это, я получал удовольствие от игры. Геймплейная составляющая доставляла только положительные эмоции.
Для каждого турнира мы выбираем определенные машины из списка. Также мы можем кастомизировать нашу машину и создавать свою команду. Раллийных автомобилей приличное количество и поэтому думаю, что каждый найдет себе понравившийся автомобиль (P.S. мой фаворит - Ford Fiesta R5).
Из минусов я бы отметил местами посредственную оптимизацию у игры, где частота кадров проседала достаточно резко. Но в целом игра работала достаточно комфортно и плавно.
Рекомендую DiRT 4! И если вам, как и мне не особо заходят аркадные гонки, то почему бы не попробовать Ралли?

People who say procedurally generated stages are good have no idea what they're talking about or have barely played the career mode. If you want to play through the career, there will be situations where you'll be driving through the same series of 3 or 4 corners for like 10 times over a stage of like 10 km. It gets boring quite fast.
If you generate random stages I guess it's fine, but there's always an element of surprise in rallying regardless if its procedurally generated or not.
Car roster is good but there's not much incentive in playing with your own team/car. Having a team with the best specialists will easily raise the team cut to 35-40%, while great A tier teams can go as low as 20-21% team cut, leaving you with more money for cars and customization

gotta say, the procedural stages are really cool, wish dirt rally 2.0 had that but man, the physics in this one is just so ass in comparison.. cars are oversteery like CRAZY and on top of that they just flip at nothing or just bounce all over the place as if they were made up of silly putty...

Even in 2026 after the online RaceNet servers have shut, DiRT4 is still one of the best and most fun rally games you can play. For a game almost 10 years old it has great graphics running on max settings on my RTX 5070, and the career mode has extensive stages for you to complete, along with the timed daily, weekly and monthly challenges you could also complete before the online servers shut down a few months ago. However, the stages in timed rally stages in Sweden etc are procedurally generated and this can get boring and/or repetitive for some people, but I didn't find that as I've been playing for years. DiRT Rally 2.0 has more realistic and unforgiving physics and handling styles, however this was my first rally and racing game I'd ever played since it came out, I was 7-8 at the time. Definitely would have recommended this game as of 2025 before the servers shut down at the end of the year, however Dirt Rally 2.0's online servers are still active as of 27 Feb 2026, so there is still progress to be made there.

Aber tut euch selbst einen Gefallen: Hört an dieser Stelle einfach auf zu zählen. Vergesst die offizielle Chronologie. Denn jeder, der Benzin im Blut hat, weiß: Der einzig wahre, würdige Nachfolger in dieser legendären Kette ist und bleibt Dirt Rally 2.0.
Reasons to like this game:
+Physics are not bad, you feel weight transfer and the different drive trains and engine placement all have distinctly different feel
+Graphically holds up, real moments of "This is cool" but then sometimes you remember it's almost 10 years old.
+Random moments during a rally, like stopped broken cars, wildfires, adds to the feeling of being in a rally environment
+A good selection of cars for all modes and eras of racing
++The career mode is pretty cool in having to go from rags to riches in your own made up team with simple menus to facilitate that
+++Procedurally generated stages! No other rally game has made me pull up to a stage and not know what is ahead. It's the purest form of rally and developers need to give this another look. I'm tired of playing the same stages over and over again.
Reasons to not like the game:
-Landrush is an afterthought and more could have been put into the rally side such as another country to visit.
-Only 5 countries in rally is disappointing
-The co driver call outs can be flat wrong but that can be "driven" around as I'll explain later
--Online has been shut down which is a shame as competing in stages that no one knows would interest me greatly.
---After a while you start to realise that the stages are around 7-8 different little sections stitched together randomly with elevation changes that make up the "procedurally" generated stages. It gets to the point where you have memorised the sections and the codrivers calls that you know are wrong you can ignore.
The potential of this game shows off what having a possible infinite number of stages has at keeping a rally game fresh time after time. The career mode is fun, a decent length to keep you engaged, with challenges to keep you entertained. I just wish they would have dropped all the useless stuff and purely focussed on rally, worked more on more little sections, added 3-4 more countries and this would have been up there with the infinite possibilities of RBR. Even the stages that you can generate, customise, time, weather, length, complexity and amount of stages COUNT towards your career progress which makes you generate some of the most gruelling rally's I have ever done in a racing game. And every time I rolled up, I didn't know precisely what was around each corner, I only roughly knew, and wouldn't that be realistic to how a codriver would reccy beforehand?

(Uno dei migliori titoli Rally mai fatti. Puoi modificare ogni singolo aspetto dell'assetto. E' presente la dirt academy dove ti insegna letteralmente a guidare un auto da rally all'inteno di Dirt 4. La carriera è fatta sufficentemente bene. La ciliegina sarebbe stato avere le licenze wrc.
Per me, che sono un giocatore che predilige il giusto bilanciamento tra simulazione e arcade è un titolo che diverte. Dirt Rally era un titolo talmente simulativo che ti puniva al minimo errore. Dirt Rally 2.0 è semplicemente l'evoluzione di Dirt 4.)

Es una pena que a dia de hoy este dirt4 no este en steam para compra porque es un buen juego de rally.Donde han añadido cositas y manteniendo el espiritu de toda la vida de esta saga.
Juego alargado artificialmente que se vuelve algo pesado.
Graficamente luce bien , ya han pasado sus años , pero aun luce bien . destacaria como lo que me ha gustado mas en los efectos de pista con el clima ( lluvia,nieve,barro, tierra , agua ) y como se refleja en el vehiculo .
Lo peor seguramente como ya comenté es lo largo que es , alargado demasiado añadiendo pruebas y pruebas con que hacerlo al 100% te puede llevar mas de 70 horas .
rallys,rallycross pruebas de baja , boogey y demas vehiculos , rallys clasicos etc .
En resumen un buen juego que si pujedes conseguirlo te divertirá y no debe estar muy caro a estas alturas.
My review doesn't matter since the game doesn't exist on the Steam Store any longer. I will say I wasn't a fan at first because I like street racing games more. However, this game has been on the low end of my backlog and I decided to give it another shot. It's an arcade racer, it plays like an arcade racer. Servers are offline but P2P is still an option.

Boaaa so Langweilig das Game. Bin Froh wenn ich die Rennen alle durch habe. Events ziehen sich sowas von in die Länge. 5 Events a 5 Sprint Rennen a 4-9 minuten lang mein gott wie kann man ein Renn Spiel nur so langweilig gestalten, dann die anderen Events die abseits der Rally Strecek statt finden wiederholt sich auch Ständig alles, keine Abwechslung immer und immer wieder die gleichen rennen. Fahre 6x die Gleichen Events erst 3x 4 Runden dann 2x 6 Runden und immer und immer wieder die gleiche Strecke boaaa neeee. Naja immerhin sieht das ganze für so ein altes game echt gut aus. Aber kein wunder das die Dirt Reihe untergegangen ist sowas von langweilig. Spiele ist jetzt nur noch für die restlichen Auszeichnungen. Das wird wohl noch weitere Stunden kosten -_-

I really got into this game once I got a nice controller. Using a keyboard is not just a compromise, it does the game a disservice.
I loved the Rally campaign and ploughed through most of it with my trusty Subarus. Since I'm more of a rally amateur than a seasoned player, I noticed with a smile on my face how my driving got way better than I though it could be, once I started to really listen to my copilot and researched a bit on what exactly do the words they say in addition to the turn sharpness etc mean. It was previously unthinkable for me to finish a 7-8 min stage in 1-st place without any crashes and not even scratches before, but now it started happening, and sometimes on the first try!
As for the Land Rush mode - I found it boring. Classic Rally was ok, but I missed the AWD I got used to while driving Subarus, so I did not enjoy it that much.
Sound design is great and so is the music (in the menus). I enjoyed the team management too - team members, sponsors, vehicle upgrades. Haven't fiddled with the settings tuning as I found the defaults just right.
DirtFish rally school is also a very nice touch and I learned a couple of new things, despite having been an active driver (although not a rally one) for about 20 years.
TLDR: This game quickly became my favorite rally racing experience, once I started playing it with a good controller.

Un jeu de Rallye plutôt bien réussi. Néanmoins, il ne rivalise pas avec Dirt Rally 2 qui est plus complet en terme de voitures et de spéciales, et qui est mieux réussi de manière global niveau physique du jeu.

Один из топовых ралли симуляторов. Множество тонких настроек игры и поведения машины на трассе. Прошел почти всю игру, но кольцевые гонки скука смертная. + отрубили сервера, так что делать в игре видимо больше нечего.

Dirt 4 ofrece una experiencia de rally sólida y accesible, especialmente para quienes jugamos con mando. La conducción se siente natural y bien equilibrada: lo suficientemente desafiante como para mejorar técnica, pero sin volverse frustrante. El sistema “Your Stage” mantiene los tramos frescos y variados, y la sensación de velocidad está muy lograda. No es el simulador más hardcore, pero sí un juego que cumple con creces en diversión, control y contenido. Un título ideal para disfrutar rally sin complicaciones.
Very fun, even in 2025. Since it's delisted, it's worth picking up a Steam key if you get it less than $10 like I did.

Трассы для игры как будто генерировала ИИ, около пяти локаций с одинаковыми отрезками ,плюс унылые гонки на багги в мексике, которые проходишь только что на разных машинах.Убрали джимхану и вместо неё сделали какой то шляпный джойрайд, который по уровню скукоты недалеко ушёл от основных кросс раллийных гонок .До кучи в ноябре 2025 года отрубили сервера RaceNet ,теперь все сетевые достижения стали недоступны. Официально заявляю серия игр Dirt -мертва.
