An interesting and original game for sure. Good to train in typing fast. Lots of interesting riddles and guessing games. Some advanced optional puzzles are rather hard but not necessary to finish the game.
It can be a little difficult for non native speakers (english or spanish) as some words are a little obscure.
Also the fishing game is a little repetitve as always with these kind of minigame, and the whatever game card depends a lot on luck.
13 hours to finish... with some guide help.
Bonus point, the devs are very friendly and will answer on the forum if you are stuck or have a save issue :)

what a gem. one of a kind. there's nothing like it. unexpectedly charming!
i mostly play adorably cute games so for this one to hook me like it did, tells me something about how much heart was put into this game.
best enjoyed with friends though. unless you're a mad genius who can guess anything and everything....
but that's also its strengh. it literally keeps you guessing. there's no spamming attack. you'll be engaged with its systems and keep having to think. what you will need though, is sufficient english or spanish. the more the better. you need to know words in order to guess them...

Not for me. After playing for an hour or so you will have seen everything that the game has to offer. It got very repetitive doing another riddle or guessing an item within a chest, for the 16th time. The combat within the game did not help either. I think if the entire game was based around earning cards and playing them in games of "Whatever" as a form of combat, it would have been ultimately more interesting. Near the end, it even got a bit grindy and tedious in addition to the repetition.

The sound track, visuals and voice acting are delightful. Moments where you can type any word you want and see the game react to what you have written are fantastic and encouraged experimentation. But, these end up feeling like gimmicks when the rest of the game is a slog to play.

Cryptmaster is a great disappointment. I played it on Steam Deck as recommended (by a friend, not Valve), and it probably influenced my experience a lot – I can imagine the game being way more fun with actual keyboard, although I can't be bothered to try.

While the game's main strength lies with the amount of atmospheric audio lines, it's also its biggest weakness. Because you always expect [i]more[/i], and [i]more[/i] simply doesn't happen. You want to be able to interact with a bug by just blindly typing “catch” or “squash” even before you find out you can actually kill them… but you can't. You expect the same from “kick”, “punch”, “jump”, “touch”, and many other popular verbs that should very logically work, but obviously are beyond the scope of what a small development studio can implement. So it's very hard not to feel inadequately rewarded for your creative attempts at solving puzzles, exploration, and other aspects.

Cryptmaster's second strength lies in its puzzles. Not the environmental ones, of which I found [b]zero[/b] in my humble 5 hours of gameplay, but the riddles that you find in every quest, multiple in each. I'm still not sure what they give you – I'm guessing souls (the points that you can spend on using “words”, a.k.a. abilities), but can't confirm, because I keep having max (999) at all times – but they do feel somewhat entertaining, and guessing the answer is often satisfactory. How often, though? Not enough – a lot of them are good, but majority is very, very easy… which is kind of unavoidable with mixed player base. Unfortunately there's no switch in the settings to replace them with more demanding ones. So who is it the game for? The atmosphere is clearly targeted at adults, or at least misbehaving youth, but puzzles are mostly on pre-schooler level. What's the point?

Incredibly clever game. The pinnacle of mouse and keyboard (well, mostly just keyboard) gaming, IMO. The game has its limits, but I was continually delighted by how much responsive dialogue there was to the words I chose. Love the voice acting of the Cryptmaster and the combat is really novel; I enjoyed discovering new abilities and lore for the main cast.

This is one of those games I highly recommend to try out! Typing is fancy and humor quite tasty. Voice acting is also absolute joy. I wish there were more games like this.

I think the first two chapters (Tutorial and Bonehouses) together would've deserved 9/10. However the third chapter starts to lose its sparkle and I wasn't that interested in completing the game. The tile-based gameplay feels quite slow after all and while combat is quirky it never becomes very fun.

A cool game with a fresh gameplay idea of learning your skills through riddles and typing. The word puzzles and puzzle puzzles were enjoyable, almost all of them felt solvable without any external help (and there are hint systems in the game if you feel like you need them).

There are aspects of the game that could be improved (combat targeting is wonky, skill lists are much too long for the length of the game and some locations feel like they were stretched for time), but none of them are too critical for enjoyment of the core loop of the game.

You should check it out if you're a fan of word puzzles.

This is truly a one-of-a-kind game, unlike anything I’ve played before. Despite having a C1 English certificate, not being a native speaker made guessing some of the more unusual, abstract, and rare words quite challenging. Because of this, I only managed to unlock about half of the character abilities and lore by the end of the game, which made the ending feel a bit abrupt.

That said, the gameplay itself is incredibly innovative. Several of the mechanics feel experimental while managing to stay genuinely fun to engage with. There’s also a nice variety of enemies and levels that keeps things fresh. The humour and the writing were practically gold, and the characters were both witty and full of personality. I’m also impressed by the soundtrack, because somehow the developers managed to create a surprisingly cool and distinctive score that fits every encounter and environment perfectly. My favourite parts were probably the riddles. They were memorable, fun to figure out, and definitely had me scratching my head more than once. The item-guessing segments were also satisfying, although it would have been nice to see the correct answer after an incorrect final guess. On top of all this, the unusual card game was another highlight, offering a welcome break from the intense typing.

Overall, this is a genuinely fun and creative game with very little to criticise, except that I probably won’t be able to get the sound effect of those bugs crawling on the walls out of my head anytime soon. All I can say is that I can only recommend this rare gem of an experimental typing game.

A game for smart people with a good English vocabulary. This is in essence a first-person-view role-playing game in the style of Eye of the Beholder and its successors and Grimrock, but with a quirky (in a good way) and unique visual style and radically simplified RPG stats. Both the PCs and the enemies only have hit points and attacks of different strength that remove a specific number of hit points non-randomly. Nothing else: no speed, initiative, health status, mana, skill trees, or whatever. Very little randomness in the core RPG (although the deck-building subgame is randomised as usual). There is next to no inventory management, and the game mechanics are based on a completely different philosophy compared to the usual loot-based progress. There is no levelling up as such either, but as you play the game you gain progressively stronger attacks and healing spells little by little. The RPG core is combined with a typing game (at least if you play real-time), which means that you have to type in the names of your attacks relatively quickly to launch them during combat. You don't need to type lightning-fast or have quick reflexes though, like in Touch Type Tale. Secondly, the RPG is also combined with a word-guessing game: To learn an attack, you need to guess the attack's name just like in Wheel of Fortune, the tv game show. Each of your four PC hero characters has just two things displayed: 1. their name, the letters of which serve as one hit point each, and 2. a number of rectangles that represent the letters of the name of the next attack that the character can learn. When you defeat an enemy, you can ask for two letters of the attack's name to be revealed, like in Wheel of Fortune. You can guess the name as many times as you want based on the number of letters (rectangles) and those letters that have already been revealed. Thirdly, it is also a riddle-solving game. As you wander around, you often find talking skulls and chests that give you with a riddle to solve, to which a single word is always the answer. Like with the name of the attacks, you see how many letters the solution needs to have (at least most of the time, though there are a few riddles that don't come with this extra help), but in this case you don't get letters as hints but rather the riddle itself. Similarly to classic RPGs like Might & Magic, the riddles add another dimension to the combat-centered core RPG mechanic. If word-guessing, riddles and typing-game combat aren't enough for you, Cryptmaster has yet another part, which is a CCG-style deck-building card battler called "whatever". I think all of these subgames are very well-though-out and balanced, it's great fun to play. Like in most RPGs, there is plenty of grind involved in progression, but the grind mostly consists in word-guessing and riddle-solving itself, mixed with a tolerable amount of fishing (which was the least fun minigame) and combat (slightly repetitive), so it's enjoyable enough as far as grind goes. Since this game is all about words, you would hope that the writing is good, and it sure is. Just looking at the graphics, you could think that Cryptmaster is a creepy, horror-themed game, but in fact it's comedy and not scary at all. The dialogs, riddles, hints, the Cryptmaster's remarks, episodes from the heroes' backstory (that are unlocked just like the attacks by guessing words in Wheel of Fortune mode) -- all of this if written in a very witty and erudite style and at a constantly very high standard, I only noticed a single typo during my playthrough. There's plenty to read, all of it is bite-sized and genuinely funny and original, like in the classic Sierra and Lucasfilm adventures. The riddles range from very easy ("When I throw something, it always comes back to me. Where do I throw it?", two letters) to hard ("I'm now four times the age that you were when we last met. I am forty now, how old are you?", ten letters). You can retry most riddles as many times as you want, which keeps the level of frustration in check if you fail to answer one. You don't need to be a native speaker of English to play and finish Cryptmaster, I'm not one myself, but your English and particularly your vocabulary should be rather good to get some enjoyment out of it, since the answers to almost all riddles are single, normal English words -- at least as long as you consider "alliteration", "pizazz" or "codpiece" normal English words. I for one loved it, it's easily the best game I have played for the last two years since Against the Storm. I'm pretty sure I got it in some bundle or on a legal Steam key trading site. Its normal price isn't cheap, but you can buy it around 2 euros now, which is certainly well worth the 50 hours of intelligent fun that I had with it. Cons are that it's a bit too easy to beat, and replayability is probably zero, unless the game gives you new riddles and words to guess on a new playthrough. I don't think it does, so you'd have to wait for a few years before playing it again until you have forgotten the solutions.

"Cryptmaster" é uma das propostas mais originais e refrescantes que surgiram no gênero de exploração de masmorras (Dungeon Crawler) nos últimos anos. O foco aqui é puramente linguístico e criativo, ao contrário de títulos tradicionais onde tudo se resume a gerenciar atributos numéricos e equipamentos. Apesar da estética retrô em preto e branco que remete aos clássicos do PC antigo, creio que qualquer pessoa que aprecie um bom jogo de palavras ou uma narrativa bem-humorada vai se deleitar com a liberdade que o sistema de reconhecimento de voz e digitação oferece.

Eu disse que o foco é linguístico, mas é claro que há uma estratégia tática envolvida na montagem do seu "vocabulário de combate". No Cryptmaster, você controla um grupo de heróis mortos-vivos, e suas habilidades são desbloqueadas adivinhando palavras relacionadas às memórias deles. O jogador pode optar por digitar os comandos ou, de forma muito mais imersiva, falá-los em voz alta. Escolher quais palavras usar em combate não é apenas uma questão de rapidez, mas de entender o tempo de recarga (o cooldown) de cada letra; então não são apenas decisões de curto prazo, mas um planejamento de como as palavras interagem entre si para causar dano ou proteger seu grupo.

A jogabilidade é brilhante e, na minha opinião, o que a torna especial é a interatividade: você pode tentar "falar" quase qualquer coisa para o Cryptmaster, o narrador sarcástico que te guia, e ele frequentemente terá uma resposta engraçada ou ríspida. É mostrado o progresso das letras que você já descobriu de cada baú ou objeto, e quando você finalmente decifra uma palavra complexa apenas pelo contexto ou pelo som, a satisfação é enorme. No entanto, é preciso ser rápido; em batalhas em tempo real, se você gaguejar ou esquecer o nome daquela habilidade de cura, o inimigo não vai esperar você consultar o dicionário — bom, eu adoro essa pressão, mas confesso que ela exige um raciocínio ágil.

Ainda sobre o desafio, aqui há um conceito muito importante, que é a dedução. Como em um jogo de forca misturado com RPG, o moral do jogador sobe ao perceber que está ficando mais afiado na interpretação das dicas do mestre da masmorra. Por exemplo: se você interage com um objeto e ele te dá pistas sobre "algo frio e brilhante", sua mente já começa a processar as possibilidades. Se você não for cauteloso e gastar suas tentativas em palpites absurdos, pode acabar perdendo recursos preciosos. O mais importante é que o jogo recompensa a curiosidade; quanto mais você experimenta com as palavras, mais o mundo se abre de formas inesperadas.

Para finalizar, outra coisa que eu gostei: a personalidade ácida do jogo. Não fique com preguiça de tentar "conversar" com os NPCs ou testar palavras aleatórias no cenário; foque no prazer da descoberta. Você não precisará apenas de reflexos nos dedos, mas antes é preciso ter um vocabulário afiado e uma mente aberta para as charadas bizarras que essa cripta esconde.

"I can see the vision" is the best thing i can say.

The humor is there, the story telling probably gets even better later on but the gameplay is just... sluggish?
Get a "puzzle" answer wong? repeat the last 5 things you did.
Combat is a lot of sitting there and waiting for your cooldown to expire

I'll probably try this game again in a few years but for now i just can’t recommend it. Maybe the dev(s) have other great games idk.

10/10 top to bottom.
Visual style is unique, effective, and easy on the eyes.
Humor is clever but doesn't overstay its welcome.
Story and characters are well written, well designed, coherent, believable, but subtle enough without beating you over the head with it.
The more cryptic puzzles are completely optional and a ton of fun to solve. Rewarding but not to the point that you're missing out without them.
Good length; I wouldn't mind another couple of hours of content but I 100%ed in less than 24 hours with no guides, clues, or extra tips/help activated and I wouldn't say it was too long or too short.
The combat is also unique and, despite what the under 2 hour reviews say, a lot of fun and challenge in the middle of the game. You won't use EVERY skill regularly but there's a tricky few encounters where you'll want to use one you've never touched before.
I'd STRONGLY recommend this title.

Combat in this game kind of stinks. It's mostly due to the cooldown timer on attacks which goes against the allure of a typing game where the skill ceiling is determined by how fast you can type. But also the mana system which applies to every character skill except for the very first weak ones that become obsolete. In my case this forced me to farm the fishing minigame and check every wall I could to eat bugs and keep the mana counter high. You could also fight enemies and get mana that way, but it isn't worth the effort since the amount of mana you get from defeating enemies is paltry compared to the amount you'll spend defeating them and using healing skills to heal up in between fights. Yes, I know there are altars that give party-wide heals along with being save points, but they almost seem too few and far between to be any useful if you were to try and grind.

Ultimately, this game was really charming and had a really cool aesthetic, but was really brought down by what I listed above. I'd say give it a shot if its on sale.

Been following this game since its release since im a fan of this type of word games. And i wanted to love this game very much. The game itself, the idea and the art is cool, but the controls are slow and chunky, voice recognition still sucks, even after almost 2 years. Am i supposed to speak with Brit accent or Us accent? Either way, the narrator cant even pronounce helmet, so i dont think it matters how you talk. Ohter than that, the game completely stopped listening to me twice, and even the timer for talking freaked out. Honestly the voice mode is just pointless and the devs knows it too. You need to press ctrl every time you want to talk, but only for like 2 secs, which you cant even extend in the settings, then youd have to press enter to confirm. So at that point, just type in the words yourself.
If you not interested in the voice mode, then its a great game

Tired of fighting with swords and spells? Use your words instead! A sort of combination of word game and old school dungeon crawler. Lots of riddles and puzzles to solve. Plus a pretty decent card game you can play against most NPCs. The main storyline isn't too hard, but some of the side quest riddles are pretty hard, like cryptic crosswords. If you want a hint there's a good steam guide with several spoiler hints before giving you the answer.

The last achievement I unlocked to 100% this game (after 14-ish hours of gameplay) was the one where the game tells you to refund the game... so I guess that sums up my experience with the game.

Fun gameplay loop and interesting story. Also a big fan of the voice narration from the Cryptmaster and other NPCs.

Not a big fan of the movement in the game, took me awhile to get used to it. Messing around with the camera settings didn't really help much but that's just a skill issue from my part.

Huge recommend if you like word games. Don't forget to spam SOOTHE.

I never hugely enjoyed the old-style dungeon crawler game, but this puts enough fun twists on it to keep it engaging. Basing the game around typing words is fun, and this is used to tie several disparate aspects of the game together in a unique way. It primarily allows for some really fun and creative puzzles, which are probably the highlight of the game, especially as the Cryptmaster chimes in on a very wide array of possible inputs. Levelling up by figuring out words is a really inspired mechanic. And the combat works well too, especially when enemies force you to be cautious about what letters you can use. Finally the card-battling aspect is also entertaining enough, albeit probably the least engaging aspect. But it is a fun world to explore overall and generally a very unique experience.

Cryptmaster outstayed it's welcome for me towards the end. I started using guides to help make fights easier (such as giving myself more health and abilities), which is funny, because I had most of the words from the third chapter but I just didn't finish the whole set during chapters four and five. The problem was there's very little reason to do anything in chapter four...

And that's exactly the point when it started getting too hard for me - riddles felt hard and the game felt thin. Apparently, the ending of the game was less detailed a year back (specifically there was no Downwell Inn region at all) and that inn felt like needless padding content in the context of the broader story so I didn't bother with it. That was probably my least favorite part.

On the other hand, I loved Ulara's tower and finding the gods and even the Piper rapping sequence was cute. I enjoyed going through and learning new words -- it's just that game pacing there towards the end that made combat feel off.

Separately, I think it would've been better for me to turn on turn-based mode. Unfortunately, I ignored it, despite it being an option I could've picked rather than real time play, since the turn-based mode wasn't recommended. As a result, I feel like I got a lesser experience overall. It's not fun typing words with hyperesthesia quickly and being punished for not engaging with content. Ah well. I still had a good time even using the guide to help me get through the ending. Most of the riddles were fun, I loved the chest puzzles, the card game was boring and random, and I liked asking about the characters in the story to dig out tidbits of lore. A good game but not the best game.

Perfecto… ahora escribe.” La propuesta gira alrededor de mecanografía y juegos de palabras como mecánica central, metidos en un viaje de aventura/rol con vibra surrealista, mitos, leyendas y un toque de terror psicológico que se siente como soñar después de cenar pesado.

En la práctica, exploras en primera/tercera persona (sí, el juego coquetea con perspectivas), avanzas en un dungeon crawler estilizado y resuelves situaciones a punta de vocabulario: no es tanto “pego con espada” como “pego con diccionario”. Y cuando funciona, funciona increíble: es de esos juegos que te hacen sentir listo… hasta que te das cuenta de que tu cerebro se quedó sin sinónimos a media pelea.

La primera impresión es clara: esto no quiere ser “otro RPG más”. Quiere ser el RPG donde tu peor enemigo no es un jefe final, sino tu ortografía, tus dedos y tu capacidad de pensar rápido sin caer en el típico “escribe la misma palabra rota mil veces”.

Si te gusta el rol con exploración y una propuesta distinta (mecanografía real como mecánica central), aquí hay una experiencia con identidad, ambientación potente y un humor oscuro/surreal que no se siente “de plantilla”.

Ahora, el elefante en la cripta: [b]15 jugadores activos[/b] es poca vida en el cementerio. Eso no mata el juego (es single player), pero sí afecta el “ruido” comunitario alrededor. A black and white dungeon crawler with a focus on wordplay. Guide a group of undead heroes, resurrected by the soul of an evil necromancer, to the surface from the depths of the underworld.

Gameplay has you playing as a group of four heroes, Joro the Barbarian, Syn the Assassin, Maz the Bard, and Nix the Witch, resurrected by an evil Necromancer known as The Cryptmaster. Dungeon crawl through the depths, gathering up letters via combat, chests, and more, to guess at words to unlock memories and skills, eventually unlocking another letter for a heroes name, which acts as their hitpoints. Souls are required in order to play words, being collected from bugs on the wall, fish, and completing puzzles from skulls found in corners of rooms. Just about any word can be input for some kind of reaction from the Cryptmaster, making for some pretty funny interactions. Areas are divided up into chapters, usually having a collection style quest for you to perform so you can proceed to the next layer up to the surface.

A card game called Whatever is quite fun, collecting and purchasing cards around the realm to pad out your deck. Four cards from your deck will be placed down, their damage value shown at the top of the card, and a wee blurb about the effect of the card that will be played when the entire word is filled out. A row of single letter tiles will be lined up along the bottom of the screen, two being selected at a time to fill out letters in the words on the displayed cards, each letter causing damage, even if already filled in on the word. Some tiles will be made wild via cards or initial placement, changing their letter each turn. Reduce the enemy HP to zero from forty to win, sometimes getting a new card for your deck. Cards can also be obtained from combat on the rare occasion.

Visually, I dig the black and white art style, character designs looking pretty interesting, and a bit outside the usual expectation.

The voice acting of the Cryptmaster is one of the main stars of the whole experience, doing much of the carrying, considering you can only input a single word at a time with your party.

Cryptmaster ended up being a pretty excellent, if somewhat short, word-based dungeon crawling experience that I would recommend quite easily to anyone who is into word puzzles.

I think the novelty alone in this game is worth checking it out. And if you are into riddles and typing on a keyboard, this game is going to be great for you.
The part of me that wants to finish games more than enjoy them really took over for this one. I get why most people drop the game before even collecting all 4 crowns in Chapter 2. You've experienced the best parts of the game by this point.

The game is cool, and if you like dungeon crawlers like Legend of Grimrock, go nuts with this. I'll be honest though, that genre has absolutely never been fun for me. I'll give Cryptmaster credit though, I had fun with it for a few hours. Until... suddenly I just couldn't be bothered to boot it up. Really though I think the game rocks, it's just not for me.

Dungeon crawler meets typing tutor, very light-hearted and silly despite it's appearances. Witty, charming, and gives surprising depth to a world and to characters that don't speak. Our titular Cryptmaster is, of course, wonderful.

I've a soft spot for typing games and word games and had a lot of fun with this. Lots of accessibility options, but I wish there were more options to make the game more challenging. I found some riddles frustrating but they're awlays optional and aside from a few minor hiccups the game's main throughline was thoroughly enjoyable.. Lots of loose ends and extra puzzles that I'll someday return to solve, as well.

Tried randomly because it was in my library and I saw it had some good reviews. The art style didn't attract me and I thought it might be scary - it's not and I really warmed up to the art style and found it quite funny at times.
Pretty unique gameplay with words, you both fight and solve puzzles with them, you get rewarded for guessing words but also can make things easier for yourself if you do some easy side-activities. All combat requires some skill and it's fun to see yourself get better at it.

Looking forward to finishing it.

A very interesting puzzle game filled with riddles and word-based encounters.

While it surely needed a richer world, a more polished experience in terms of flow (and maybe some extra checkpoint..), it entertains you with its witty humour and its difficult riddles, along with an interesting "hand drawn" old school tabletop aesthetic; however, I want to suggest it only to people with an advanced knowledge of english, or at least with a translator at hand: some sections can block your experience if you're not prepared.

Once properly fine-tuned all the mechanics, i'm sure that a sequel will be surely amazing, cause this game is definitely unique.

...эстетически игра обрыганская, арты в духе польской дешевизны (Call of Juarez Gunslinger или даже Третий Ведьмак), персонажи так себе (в Darkest Dungeon не играл, но выглядит как пародия на них).

Но!

Юмор кайф! Очень весело, когда без ИИ черепушка реагирует на "неправильные" слова.

Но опять же, нужна эрудиция. Я себя таки позиционирую как fluent говорящего, но моя пыхтелка-думалка часто ничего не могла из себя выдавить - я ужасный игрок в кроссворды.

Добавлю отдельно, что для компании это классная игрушка. Да, надо бы попробовать с женой.

(I found something suggesting the game designers made something more visually prominent to make it clearer, but I still didn't see any sign of a helmet near him in either the "walking around" view or the closeup conversation view.)

The leveling up process is especially clever and unique.

The game knowing how to say lots of words that it doesn't actively use is also a really nice touch.

For old people wondering "what is it" I would tersely describe it as a cross between Dungeon Master and Typing of the Dead.

Fun until after the Ulara region. ♥♥♥♥ gets annoying, especially pixies asking for different sword types?? Like I don't happen to have any expertise about that how could I guess it? Then I have to wait for a while and die again to see if the pixies happen to have word I know this time.

The chest guessing game and the riddles are the best part of this game and the combat is fine until endgame (i only have the first line of words for each character) I did all the chests and the riddles, but did not gain all the letters that I could have gained because of some of my team was dead or they already happened to have the letters I got as a reward (does gaining letters while teammate is dead ♥♥♥♥ up the balance? either way the balance seems ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up). I don't think I can win the last boss with this team, maybe with luck. Are you supposed to grind in this game? Why would you want to grind in this game? and I did actually have to grind some in the beginning because I had bad luck with getting the shield breaking skill.

Also the npc:s really don't understand any words. Which is weird when you can freely type to them. Maybe when the npc:s have like 3 interactable words you could just have it as dialogue options.

I would praise the first half in this review and other aspects in this game, but the aftertaste of the last regions kind of took that motivation away. Like I recommend this game till the half point, after that I didn't really gain anything worthwhile in my opinion.

I really like cryptmaster. It's not too long that the gimmick out weighs its welcome and I had a blast with most of the riddles and word puzzles. If you like word games this game is goated.

A great game with a charming sense of humor and smart writing. The core gameplay, revolving around typing, allows the player to enter in almost anything. It uses this flexibility to great effect in a variety of puzzles, riddles, jokes, and secrets. The experience was a tad longer than it needed to be, but I have no regrets about the time spent with this game and its silly world.

What a neat and original game! I want a sequel!

It seems a little shallow at first, and indeed it's a bit linear and the combat isn't fun, but it turns out that's unimportant.
What's more important is 'Whatever' and weird characters and witty writing.

Also I thought I hated riddles but this game kept me looking forward to the next one.
