I first started playing this game many years ago, and I've loved the storyline, the jokes, and the puzzle aspects. It gets progressively more complicated the more you play. Highly recommended.
I'll be frank. It's old. Very VERY old. Most of the joke references are outdated. The story is simple enough. Your advisor has turned against you and plots to overthrow the kingdom. The journey itself however isn't all that interesting. At times it feels like a slog-fest.
The bugs are TERRIBLE! This is the main problem. Cutscenes and credits won't show. The game has crashed and closed down on me more ways than one. I got locked into the first Theatre stage mini-game, couldn't escape and had to restart my whole PC as a result! Completing the coffee machine tasks was hell!!!
Regardless, the puzzles are surprisingly tricky. I do enjoy the music, quirky characters and voice-work which was brought to the table here. Ceville brings a sort of snarky, devilish charm with the whole "main character is the villain" trope. His mischief and witty banter is what makes the game funny.
It's not bad per say, being a fairy-tale casual point & click. Though part of me wonders...would Ceville have been a much better game (especially with it's wacky cast) as a fantasy, adventure platformer like Crash Bandicoot?
Definitely a product of it's time. Despite it's faults, the game still gained positive reception. I'm surprised the sequel never came to fruition. Love the characters. The world itself...eh...not so much. After all these years Ceville is severely broken and needs to be fixed!

This is a fun and entertaining game. Easy pace and not scary or demoniic. (if that's a word) I enjoyed the fact that it was a cute non violent,killing game yet not juvenile for us older point and click "clickers"!!
Game did not age well, so many bugs making it hard to enjoy.

Ich sitze schon seit mehreren Stunden an diesem Spiel und eigentlich macht es echt Spaß, aber fast immer, wenn ich die Übersichtskarte von Faeryanis öffne, bleibt ALLES hängen: Das Spiel und mein kompletter PC. Ich kann absolut nichts mehr machen, nicht einmal den Task-Manager öffnen, und musste daher schon ein paar Mal meinen PC zu einem Neustart "zwingen". Nach einem Patch zur Behebung habe ich online vergeblich gesucht bzw. funktionieren die, die ich gefunden habe, nicht.
Wenn Spiele zum Kampf werden, verliere ich die Lust, also wird es nun deinstalliert. Glücklicherweise hatte ich es im Angebot gekauft, habe also nicht viel Geld kaputt gemacht. Schade ist es trotzdem!

По атмосфере похоже на первого шрека, Севиль = лорд Фаркуад. Гэги, отсылки к современной (середины нулевых, т.е. однозначно состарились) поп-культуре.
Эта игра не про выдающийся сюжет, а про забавное взаимодействие главных героев в абсурдных ситуациях.
Мне казалось, что графика убогая, как у любого квеста нулевых, который начинал использовать 3д модели вместо 2д, Но, посмотрев на скрины, я могу сказать, что графика не такая уж вырвиглазная, как я запомнил. Деменция)
Загадки основаны на взаимодействии предметов друг с другом, сложностей не возникает.
Если Вы уже играли в старые игры, то севиль - это угар примерно уровня продолжения сэма и макса (то, которое выходило эпизодами).
Если же Вы только начали знакомиться с пойнт энд клик квестами нулевых, то есть плеяда лучших игр (syberia, still life, runaway), К ним и нужно приобщаться в первую очередь. Но когда они закончатся, можно будет дауншифтиться до уровня, на котором находятся остальные игры, выпущенные микроидс, севиль, сэм & макс эпизоды, первый мементо мори, гоинг даунтаун, кипсэйк, оверклокд.
Квесты дедаликов десятых годов, имхо, хуже, чем севиль.
Особенно это показательно в сравнении с депонией, которая, увы, хуже и как юмористическая игра, и как квест.
Sehr schönes und lustiges Spiel mit einiger Hakelei im 2. akt. Spaßig ist das man in manchen Szenen mit den drei Charakteren spielen muss um zum Ziel zu kommen. Bei manchen Sachen musste ich mehrfach die Scene spielen um genau an der richtigen Stelle zu stehen um das zu bekommen was ich wollte. Macht aber nix.. das ganze war sehr lustig. Aber auch bei mir betrug die Ladezeit recht lang. Na gut, ging nicht schneller, tut dem Spiel selber aber keinen Abbruch. Ich würde es aufjedenfall weiter empfehlen. Spielbar gut nur mit Maus.

Great game, colorful and fun, with amazing voicing, and very unhinged humor sometimes(I absolutely loved it). Lots of random pop-culture and fairytale references you don't expect. It's pretty logical but a couple of times made me stuck in the story because some items are really small or blend with the surroundings(so some pixelhunting happened). LOTS of funny dialogs and descriptions. Totally worth a try if you're into point and click games

An sich ist das eigentlich ein witziges Spiel, nur stürzt es leider oft ab im 2 Akt. Wenn die Abstürze nicht gewesen wären (ein paar waren zufällig, und einer immer an einer bestimmten Stelle) hätte ich das Spiel empfohlen

Une petite perle du point and clic qui a plutôt bien vieilli, Ceville a un humour très satirique et sarcastique ! Dommage que steam ne propose pas la version française qui existe officiellement .(heureusement on peut le patcher)..
Le jeux a une vrai fin mais se termine sur un petit cliffhanger, mais la suite n'est jamais sortie jusqu’à ce jour!

Amusing game that offers a unique experience with memorable characters and scenes. Now I see the screenshots that I had taken and it feels like I am seeing an old photograph album. BUT before you decide to play you must be prepared for many bugs and levels that have no logic and you might need to read a guide.

Ceville is a point and click adventure set in the far-off fantasy land of Faeryanis. You play as one of three characters - Ceville, the tyrannical king; Lilly, a cute little girl; or Ambrosius, the bumbling and narcissistic paladin. The three characters work together to solve problems and stop the evil advisor Basilius from taking over the kingdom. The three of them travel Faeryanis, meeting its faerie tale denizens and learning more about the world and themselves along the way.
Mechanically, Ceville is a point and click, and as such, follows the usual gameplay conventions of the genre. While it lacks many of the puzzle elements found in other point and clicks, it still includes the all-important apply-thing-to-other-thing-to-get-third-thing mechanic. The puzzles in Ceville are less explicit and more situational - which of the many objects should be applied to get to the end result? - but in some ways, this results in a stronger structure. The game isn’t slowed down by the artificial insertion of puzzles, but instead, flows more naturally from the characters’ own problem solving skills.
In thinking about what makes a point and click work, I tend to evaluate them on three criteria - puzzles/gameplay, their story, and their world. Each game may approach these differently, favouring one or another, but they all feed into that grand picture of what a game actually is while playing into what the genre strives to do.
Puzzles and gameplay-wise, Ceville is not explicit puzzle-heavy, but relies instead on situational puzzles, and figuring out what item does what. Its world does a good job providing hints for the next step through changing a mouseover icon based on how a player is meant to interact with a particular object. It is very much a game that sees its puzzle elements as fuel to move the player along rather than the element keeping the player hooked on the game in and of themselves. They are decent - nothing special, nothing particularly difficult, just a vehicle to keep the player engaged.
It’s in Ceville’s story that I find myself getting disconnected from the game. While it is a unique story, the characters within it are themselves not unique enough to make their struggles interesting, or, for those that are unique, they are unique in ways that make them unpleasant to engage with.
The main character, for instance, is Ceville. We first meet Ceville when he is deciding which of either the three little pigs or the big bad wolf to send to a labour camp. He is arbitrary, cruel, and the very picture of a tyrant who deserves to be overthrown. While the game shows his gradual transition into a redeemable character who recognises his flaws, it is a painfully gradual transition, and we as the players spend a great deal of time with this thoroughly unpleasant person.
Evil can be fun, don’t get me wrong. Morrigan (Dragon Age), Sheogorath (Oblivion), and Handsome Jack (Borderlands) are all excellent examples of how to make an evil character compelling, fun, and one that the player wants to interact with further. Theirs is a charismatic evil, and one that recognises its own vileness while also justifying it as necessary, or at least worth doing for some other purpose rather than strictly for its own sake. Ceville is an evil character, but without this charisma, charm, or greater purpose - he is simply evil for the sake of it. As much as the game’s writing want me to laugh alongside him as he jokes about torture or executions, his presentation isn’t one that can carry that humour. Rather than being a comical villain-protagonist, Ceville just becomes a deeply unpleasant character with his transformation into someone less vile being too shallow and too slow to overcome that repulsion.
The same is true, albeit to a lesser extent, of Ceville’s two other protagonists, Ambrosius and Lilly. Ambrosius is narcissistic to the point of caricature. This is, again, an intentional choice on the part of the developers, but one that doesn’t lend itself to the humour the game’s writing is trying to cultivate. Much like with Ceville, the caricature is an unpleasant one to interact with, especially when the humour surrounding him is at his expense. It is a mean-spirited humour in a game that seems to delight in cruelty. Some of this is very much in-universe with the solutions the protagonists choose to take. Some of this, though, is in how the game asks the players to progress. It wants the players to choose the cruelest option that lays low the people of this world. In so doing, it creates an unpleasant play experience that clashes with the character development the game is trying to present.
The world of Ceville is also a flawed one. While its explorations of faerie tales and subverting the tropes inherent to them are fun, the game chooses to engage with these in what often feels like the cruelest way. In some ways, it feels like Ceville became reactionary against the wholesomeness of Disney-fied faerie tales, choosing instead to rebel against them in a froth of teenage-gamer edginess. The world, much like the characters themselves, dives too far into caricature to feel meaningful or interesting to explore.
This is, in some ways, compounded by its graphical style. Though this game is nearly a decade and a half old and can’t be too heavily criticised for its graphics, the choices it makes for how to portray its world evoke some of the worst elements of mobile games. The colours are garish, and the character designs flat and doughy. Much like with the other elements, however intentional or unintentional this may be, the graphical choices further cement the unpleasant experience that playing this game becomes.
Ceville is a product of its time. It is the product of an old revival of point and clicks, but one that sought to ape better and more successful games. While some of its flaws are less flaws and more products of its time, its choices about what story to tell and how to tell it make for an experience that leaves the player struggling to find motivation to slog through. This game may be a more fun experience for those who are more interested in edgy subversions of faerie tales. For me, however, it was an unpleasant slog, and one I’m happy to be done with.

In Ceville, you play a former tyrant trying to get his throne back. This point-and-click adventure flips the usual hero story completely. Instead of playing some noble good guy, you control a snarky, scheming villain who's absolutely ruthless. The humor really carries this game. I found myself laughing at Ceville's conversations with characters like the stuck-up paladin Ambrosius and the clever orphan Lilly. The game constantly pokes fun at typical fantasy tropes.
It follows the standard point-and-click format. You collect items, talk to other characters, and click on whatever looks interesting. The puzzles also felt just right to me. Challenging but not impossible. Switching between characters was a nice touch since they all have different skills. You might need Ceville for one thing but then switch to Lilly for something else.

Overall this is an decent and typical old school point and click adventure game which reminds old Lucas Arts classics like Monkey İsland and Day of the Tentacle. if you seeking to a few hours light entertainment i can recommended to this game.

Well, at most of the part, this is an Adventure game done right. Up to a point that it gives the feel of the old Monkey Island itself, well, not that great but something close. BUT! There's quite a lot of game breaking bugs that require the players to solve themselves before they can continue playing. That's the main reason for the thumbs down here. If you are tech savvy and knows your way around game bugs, this is highly recommended. If you don't want to bother with fixing the game to play it, then it's recommended to stay away.

Вроде бы, шутки и разговоры должны были веселить или хотя бы быть интересными, но чем дольше играл, тем больше склонялся к тому, что кроме тупости, да грубости в них более ничего и нет.
Само прохождение очень часто заходило в тупик. В основном, проблема была в том, что у меня не было нужных предметов. Почему? Во-первых, многие уже использованные и по факту бесполезные предметы не пропадали и даже комментировались, как то, что ещё может быть полезно. Я тратил время на попытки понять как их можно использовать, когда у меня просто не было нужного. Во-вторых, это нужное достаточно часто было чем-то не примечательным, "иголкой в стоге иголок" или просто чем-то, что хорошо сливалось с окружением. Благо, в интернете было текстовое прохождение, которое очень часто меня выручало.
Атмосфера у игры интересненькая и, наверное, только из-за этого послевкусие и не плохое, но в игре меня, честно говоря, удерживал только русификатор. Я услышал легендарные, для меня, голоса и просто хотел их послушать. Вот так.

I'm having fun and I'm sure every fan of Monkey Island et similia will find this very close to those ones for the clever puzzles, humour, good musics and crazy plot.
Just one flaw, quite annoying: the crash bugs...but if you resist and load the game again (and again, and again...) you'll enjoy it. You just need patience :)

Cute little adventure game about a comical tirant being deposed who needs to fight back to reclaim his throne.
The story is ok, the tyrant Ceville ends up being much better then the individuals that took the power.
Unfortunately, the graphics is very outdated and that doesn't help with the immersion to the story and puzzles. And when you aren't invested then it becomes harder and more frustrating to complete the puzzles.
It is quite long, at times becomes boring. Puzzles are sometimes easy, sometimes very overstreched.
I had to consult the guide a few times.
I would recommend this game 10 years ago, but in 2023 there are many much better adventure games.
Also the interface, movement and dialogues are outdated.

Questa è una avvenura difficile. Sgombriamo subito il campo da illusioni generate dalla bellissima ed accurata grafica del gioco e dall'ambientazione quasi fiabesca, ad onta del carattere di uno dei protagonisti, che è appunto tale Ceville. Costui è il crudele e perverso regnante di un fantasioso reame che ad un certo punto deve recuperarlo dalle grinfie del suo ancora più malefico mago suo consigliere: ma, appunto, il mondo che ci viene proposto è invece ironico e spensierato. Dico che è uno dei protagonisti in quanto questa avventura conta la bellezza di ben quattro (!) personaggi giocabili: due a tempo pieno ed altri due in brevi fasi del gioco.
Ora, perchè dico che è difficile? Perchè gli enigmi sono spesso molto subdoli e di non facile risoluzione. Il gioco usa spesso la tecnica di aprire degli scenari dopo che si sono risolti determinati enigmi, e questo senza evidenti notifiche o indizi rivelatori: per esempio come nel caso della segretaria che non ci voleva far passare. Oppure inganna con false ed apparenti risoluzioni che amaramente poi ci accorgiamo essere non valide spingendoci a riflettere meglio. Ed ancora c'è la modalità cooperativa per la quale un enigma deve essere risolto usando i vari personaggi giocanti, che possono essere anche tre contemporaneamente. Il gioco comunque mette a disposizione anche una modalità per cui si illuminano gli elementi dello scenario in base all'oggetto dell'inventario selezionato. Credo che una difficoltà aggiuntiva per noi del Bel Paese è che i testi in inglese ci rendono sfuggevoli molti particolri che invece ci aiuterebbero. E c'è da dire che di testi ce ne sono, ah se ce ne sono! Tutta l'avventura è un continuo scambio di battute tra Ceville e Lilly, l'altra protagonista principale; inoltre tutti sono più o meno logorroici e ci martirizzano con i loro commenti in inglese. L'intreccio narrativo è ben fatto e la colonna sonora ben impiantata.
Lati negativi? Perché l'ho abbandonata due volte ed anche la terza volta, questa ultima che ho giocato, quasi quasi mi stava portando ad abbandonarla? Il motivo non lo capisco bene: è come se questa avventura mi portasse stanchezza, ed alla fine noia. Eppure la grafica è molto bella, i protagonisti ben caratterizzati e gli enigmi molto validi e mai campati in aria, anche se non evitano la sindrome dell''ammucchiata', cioè del provare tutto con tutto.
Giocatela, e mi sappiate dire.

A nice nostalgic game
You will spend 50% of the time watching loading screens and the game will crash every 20 min, but it's worth it, the story is stupid and funny enough to keep you engaged, characters are nice and original, the voice acting it's great, the graphics are decent for it's age and the best thing it's the price
This is a great game to bond with your child over. I sit and play it with my 4yr old daughter and she absolutely loves it, and it has enough charm and challenge to keep the adult entertained too.
I enjoyed the game very much. The dialogues between characters are quite amusing and witty.Loved the puzzles. Some take a lot of trial and error. Graphics is decent . The game can get a bit buggy for me. (Visit the community discussion if you cant get through the stage scene). It so far my favourite game in steam despite the bugs.

This game is well worth playing, but I warn you before we even begin that it has serious, SERIOUS issues you should go in prepared for, or it’ll drive you halfway to madness.
Ceville is a modernish 3D point and click adventure. Clearly inspired by the old days in terms of humour, it puts you in the boots of the titular deposed tyrant as you puzzle your way to revenge. In terms of the art, its style is similar to the telltale Sam N Max adventures or their ‘bone’ games. Ceville’s gameplay plays like any other 3D point and click – get things, rub them on other things, sometimes sensibly, sometimes ‘creatively’, talk to characters, unlock locations, rinse and repeat.
[b][u]Pros:[/u][/b]
[list][*]The game is very well humoured and quite funny, however the jokes are almost exclusively in-jokes… such as “I feel the need to read it [a horse] a story.” “Oh? What would you do with its teeth?” This is amusing if you know, if you don’t, it’s just going to be meaningless fluff that seems stupid and out of place.
[*]The voice acting is on point and banter between the characters is nice and in character, it doesn’t feel forced or out of place (except for the above possible point) and has been written to include the player by way of shared experience.
[*]The story itself is good fun, the characters are excellently done caricatures, and the puzzles are mostly well paced with only a few multistage ‘REALLY?’ moments.

[list][*] Starting with the benign. The usual point and click irritations, such as; pixel hunting (until you discover the space bar), rubbing things on other things, illogical logic puzzles, repetitive dialogue, and everything else you’d expect from a pnc.
[*] Moving into the less benign. The games load times are a joke. Several multi-minute load times on a game this old is just unacceptable and can be quite jarring.
[*] Finishing with the cancerous. The game crashes and freezes. This is so bad, that if the game wasn’t carried by just how well it is written, I’d have put it down really quickly. Multiple freezes that don’t even let your task manager shut it down, wont alt F4, and ultimately force you to reset? Even more crashes to desktop? EVEN MORE freezes, but ones that allow you to kill it via taskmanager?! This game spends almost as much time loading and stopping as it does playing, and its rage inducing.
[*]The dev’s outright missed the opportunity to let you chose the end, deciding if Ceville had changed through his time with Lilly. A few slightly different puzzles to let the game end on a few different notes would have really given the game a strong finale.

If you go in expecting the problems, Ceville is well worth a play through for any veteran point and click player. It’s not a bad length at ~8 hours (with an extra 2-3 hours of load times -_-). The story is so well written and the interactions so entertaining that it doesn’t hugely matter what the issues are. That said, they are extremely frustrating and as such, if you’ve made it this far, here are a list of the solutions I found to these bugs I encountered.
1. Put on subtitles.
2. Change the resolution to max, or your monitor’s max, if lower.
3. Patience is a virtue; if the game is going into a timed segment (which frequently crashes) don’t double click to enter it, don’t try and skip any of the dialogue, let it go in at its own pace.
4. Ain’t nobody got time fo dat; if patience is failing, try to skip everything before the game hangs again.
5. If it’s a cut segment crashing, turn the in-game Master Volume to 0%.
I have no idea why any of these fixes work, or how the people that discovered them did so, but they helped me out a lot throughout the game. If I haven’t put you off playing, I wish you luck, and an enjoyable experience.

Das am 19.02.2009 veröffentlichte Point & Click-Adventure Ceville ist der Debuttitel des deutschen Entwicklerstudios Realmforge Studios (Dungeons-Serie, DARK). Trotz positiver Pressestimmen und -wertungen ist das humoristische Spiel doch recht bald in die Obskurität gefallen. Ein Grund dafür mag die Tatsache sein, dass gerade mal eineinhalb Monate später das sehr ähnlich geartete „The Book of Unwritten Tales“ erschien, mit dessen Polishing Ceville nicht ganz mithalten kann.
Dennoch ist auch Ceville ein schönes Spiel, welches Fans von parodistischen Humor, frechen Anspielungen und kunterbunten Fantasywelten jede Menge Freude bereiten dürfte.
[h1]Zwei Bösewichter im Kampf um den Thron[/h1]
Ceville ist ein kleinwüchsiger Tyrann, der über das märchenhafte Land Faeryanis regiert. Der Fiesling liebt seine Schurkenrolle und tut sein Möglichstes, um seinen Untertanen das Leben zu erschweren und seine Taschen mit Gold zu füllen. Dummerweise hat der Kurze ein verdammt schlechtes Händchen, wenn es um die Akquirierung von kompetenten und vertrauenswürdigen Personal geht. Sein Berater, der Lulatsch Basilius, spinnt eine Intrige, um Cevilles Tyrannenthron zu rauben und seinerseits als neuer Schreckensherrscher das Zepter zu schwingen. Es erklärt sich von selbst, das Basilius plant den Grad der Bosheit um ein vielfaches anzuheben, um den verhassten Ceville alt aussehen zu lassen. Seine Intrige äußert sich in Form einer Revolution, die vom ebenso inkompetenten wie selbstverliebten Paladin Ambrosius geleitet wird, und an der sogar Cevilles Leibwachen beteiligt sind.
Zwar gibt Ceville sein Bestes, um aus seinem eigenen Schloss zu fliehen, jedoch ist das Glück auf der Seite des doofen Ambrosius, weswegen Ceville geschnappt und eingekerkert wird. Doch unser Ex-Tyrann hat seinerseits Glück im Unglück, denn das kleine, herzensgute Waisenmädchen Lilly wird auf das Gegrummel des Protagonisten aufmerksam. Ceville erklärt ihr die Umstände seiner Gefangennahme, weswegen Lilly beschließt den kleinen Fiesling zu befreien und zusammen mit ihm die Pläne von Basilius zu vereiteln. Das ist freilich wesentlich leichter gesagt als getan.
Was die Handlung anbelangt, so ist diese sehr geradlinig und dient eher als Mittel zum Zweck, um das Abenteuer und vor allem auch die witzigen Dialoge und Situationen zu rechtfertigen. Ceville ist also kein Spiel, welches man sich wegen einer spannenden Story oder ausgefeilten Charakteren holt, sondern weil man einfach was zu Lachen haben will und auch mal in die Rolle eines kleinen Fieslings schlüpfen möchte, der für fast alles und jeden einen gehässigen Kommentar parat hält. Die niedliche Lilly dient da als ausgleichender Gegenpol zum Protagonisten und sogar Paladin Ambosius bekommt einige spielbare Abschnitte. Den Großteil des Spiels ist man jedoch mit dem Duo Ceville und Lilly unterwegs, welches auch hervorragend miteinander harmoniert.
Abgesehen von Cevilles fies-gehässigen Verhalten, baut der Humor sehr stark auf Anspielungen auf. Anspielungen auf andere Videospiele, Fantasy-Klischees und wirtschaftliche sowie politische Probleme sind in den meisten Fällen sehr gut gealtert und bringen immer noch zum lachen. Wenn es in den popkulturellen Bereich geht, wird es da schon schwieriger. So nimmt das Spiel etwa Jennifer Lopez aufs Korn, welche dieser Tage jedoch keine nennenswerte Relevanz mehr hat und daher vor allem bei jüngeren Spielern unbekannt sein dürfte. Somit werden jene Witze, die auf Lopez' Konto gehen, bei einigen Leuten nicht mehr zünden.
Ein wesentlich größeres Problem ist jedoch das schlechte Pacing der Story. Denn auch wenn die Handlung an sich, nicht wirklich die treibende Kraft hinter dem Spaß ist, so ist es doch enorm frustrierend, wie zäh die Handlung in den Kapiteln 1 und vor allem 2 voranschreitet.
[h1]Solides Standard-Gameplay mit einem schwachen Hauch von einem Gesinnungssystem und drei spielbaren Charakteren[/h1]
Was das Gameplay anbelangt macht Ceville keine Experimente. Das gesamte Spiel besteht aus Inventarrätseln und NPC-Dialogen. Man klickt sich also durch die Spielwelt, untersucht Hotspots, sammelt Gegenstände ein, welche in einer Inventarleiste am unteren Bildschirmrand gesammelt werden, kombiniert diese Gegenstände gegebenfalls untereinander und nutzt sie, um diverse Problemstellungen zu lösen. Einzige Ausnahme aus diesem Trott ist ein sehr simples Apparatur-Rätsel im Theater, wo man mit einem Scheinwerfer hantieren darf.
Das was das Spiel von vielen anderen Titeln unterscheidet, ist die Tatsache, dass man hier drei spielbare Charaktere hat, welche nach dem Einstiegskapitel auch zusammenarbeiten müssen, um voranzukommen. Zunächst agieren Ceville und Lilly als Team. Da muss Lilly auch mal einen NPC weglocken, damit Ceville einen Gegenstand stehlen kann, oder man hat variable Antwortmöglichkeiten in den NPC-Dialogen. Während Ceville seine Gesprächspartner gerne beleidigt und verspottet, reagiert Lilly freundlich, aufmunternd und charmant. Man hat sogar daran gedacht die Antwortoptionen mit unterschiedlichen Farben zu kodieren, damit man weiß, wer der Beiden die Antwort geben wird. In den meisten Dialogen und Situationen ist derlei zwar nur ein Gimmick, aber hier und da gibt es dann doch kleinere Passagen, wo man die Gesinnung seiner Spielfigur im Hinterkopf behalten sollte. Denn da wo sich Lilly weigert etwas fieses zu tun, hat Ceville freilich keinerlei Hemmungen. Es wäre schön gewesen, wenn das Spiel mehr aus diesem „Gut und Böse“-Gesinnungssystem herausgeholt hätte. Stattdessen wird man manchmal mit zeitkritischen Szenen konfrontiert, wo man nur wenige Sekunden Zeit hat, die Lösung zu finden bzw. eine entsprechende Handlung auszuführen. Diese Zeitpassagen sind etwas lästig aber kein Beinbruch.
Hat man Kapitel 3 erreicht, schließt sich dann auch noch der Paladin Ambrosius an. Hier agieren die drei Charaktere jedoch losgelöst voneinander, und müssen improvisieren, um sich Gegenstände zuzuschanzen, die der jeweils Andere benötigt. Folglich ist Kapitel 3 dann auch das spielerische Highlight im Spiel.
Absolut vorbildlich sind übrigens die Komfortoptionen, die zur Verfügung gestellt werden. So bietet Ceville Doppelklick-Funktionen, um die Charaktere rennen zu lassen und Ein-/Ausgänge abzukürzen, Autosaves die alle 5 Minuten durchgeführt werden, die Möglichkeit Zwischen- und Dialogsequenzen per Mausklick wegzudrücken, sowie eine Hotspotanzeige. Letztere ist aber leider weniger eine Option, sondern viel eher ein Muss. Das Spiel setzt nämlich auf 3D-Grafik mit Kameraschwenks, was es manchmal sehr schwer macht Hotspots und Gegenstände zu erkennen.
[h1]Grafik und Sound[/h1]
Anders als viele andere Point & Click-Adventures seiner Zeit setzt Ceville auf reine 3D-Grafik. Sowohl die Charaktermodelle, als auch die Umgebungen werden in 3D dargestellt. Für ein 2009-Adventure sieht die Grafik ganz ordentlich aus. Die Grafik profitiert deutlich von ihrer kunterbunten Farbgebung, weswegen sie auch ganz nett gealtert ist (aber trotzdem veraltet ist). Es werden auch höhere Auflösungsstufen unterstützt. Ich selbst konnte das Spiel immerhin in der Stufe 1920x1080 erleben. Auch das cartoonhafte Artdesign weiß zu gefallen und passt gut zum Humor. Es könnte für manch einen jedoch zu europäisch sein. Sogar die Animationen der Spielfiguren fallen für Adventure-Verhältnisse überraschend solide aus.
Der Soundtrack des Spiels besteht leider nur aus debiler Märchen-Fahrstuhlmusik, welche – Gott sei dank – nur sehr unscheinbar im Hintergrund vor sich hin dudelt. An der deutschen Sprachausgabe gibt es hingegen nichts auszusetzen. Die ist super!

Witzige Sprüche und Referenzen zu anderen Spielen und Filmen. Fordernde, aber nicht unfaire, Rätsel. Leider stürzt das Spiel gelegentlich beim Szenarienwechsel ab aber durch die Autosave Funktion nicht weiter tragisch.

Juego de aventura gráfica bastante decente, con gráficos 3D que no suelen verse en este género. El diseño de personajes está muy bien aunque sean muy esteriotipados. La historia no mata, pero entretiene aunque a mi se me hizo aburrida y el "humor" me pareció infantil (me debo hacer mayor -_-) La banda sonora brilla por su mediocridad y he encontrado algunos bugs. Pero los puzles están entretenidos y en ocasiones tienes que jugar con varios personajes interactuando entre ellos ( a lo Day of the Tentacle). Desde mi punto de vista, [u][b]aprobado justito justito. De casi suspenso. Por los pelos[/b][/u] Y lo apruebo porque lo pille de oferta por unos centimos. Playing as evil tyrant trying to get his throne back. Whats not to love about it? Ceville brings me back to the old click and point adventure puzzle games. Combined with humor it reminds me a bit of Discworld and it's very enjoyable!
It isn't a very long game, but it's a thinker! The different puzzles and items you need to combine aren't always obvious at first sight. But it makes the feeling of accomplishment so much more rewarding..
The game, although a little dated by now, still works perfect with new systems and its cartoony graphics fit the game perfectly. Definitely recommended!

Tolles Spiel! Habe es durch Zufall im Sale für 40ct entdeckt und deswegen einfach mal mitgenommen und ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, ich wurde nicht enttäuscht. Der Humor im Spiel ist Klasse, die Voicelines sind auch ganz witzig gemacht (Druide mit schweizer Dialekt, französischer Koch, Dämon mit Sprachfehler, unsw.) und die Geschichte vom Tyrannen, der in einer Intrige gestürzt wird und dann durch ein unbekümmertes kleines Mädchen und einen absolut selbstverliebten Paladin sein Land aus der Scheiße ziehen muss ist einfach wirklich super umgesetzt. An vielen Stellen wird einiges an Satire betrieben, grade im zweiten Akt werden wirtschaftliche und gesellschaftliche Themen wie unter anderem Bürokratie und Aktiengesellschaften herrlich parodiert und generell hat das Spiel einfach unfassbar viel Charakter.
Negativ anmerken würde ich eigentlich nur einige Grafikfehler, die vorkamen (wobei eigentlich nur einer gegen Ende wirklich nervig war, sonst war alles sehr unauffällig und keiner der Fehler hat wirklich aktiv den Spielverlauf gestört) und dass einige der Rätsel schon sehr versteckt waren und man nicht auf alles gleich kommt. Aber abgesehen davon, sein Geld echt wert und nur empfehlenswert!
Ceville es muy buen juego que se queda corto de entrar en los clásicos del género por ciertos errores que comete. Principalmente el uso de un montón de objetos es imposible sin la tecla espaciadora que muestra las ubicaciones de las cosas: sin apretar esa tecla ciertos objetos no son interactuables y son superpuestos por otros. Otros son que los cutscenes no se ven, se queda la pantalla en negro.
Más allá de eso la historia está bien pero lo que más me gustó fueron los puzzles (a pesar de 2 o 3 no muy lógicos) y la interacción entre Ceville y Lilly. Los comentarios de Ceville varias veces me hicieron reír. También me gustó mucho el manejo de las cámaras, que varias veces hacen paneos en lugar de cortes.
Ceville fue descuidado por sus creadores y es una lástima porque con un poco más era uno de esos juegos que todo el mundo mencionaría.

Ceville is a decent adventure, not too difficult, although I used a walkthrough on some occasions, but a seasoned adventure game player with more stamina might not need it.
The graphics are great, the story is ok, the characters are great.
I already had the game on dvd-rom and on GOG (but never played them), but bought it at a steamsale for 0,39 cents, and it's well worth the money..
It took me about 12 hours to go through the game, again, I think a seasoned adventure player will take about 10-12 hours if he/she at least listens to all the dialog.
BUT! the game does have its problems, it sometimes crashes, but luckily it has a 5 minute autosave (but I suggest saving anyway after a major happening). And the ingame video's don't seem to work at all, luckily they are not really needed (and I even wonder why they werent done through the game-engine itself. But if you want to see the video's (which is just a book with some images and text switching pages) you can go to your steam library folder: <your location>\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Ceville\data\shared\videos and use the windows video player to play the wmv files.
Mind you, make sure you set the game to your native resolution of your monitor if you want to enjoy the game even more, the game starts in a default resolution.

If cheesy point & click adventures are your schtick, this might be worth picking up; be sure to read the warnings though, as this game does suffer from some technical difficulties.
[h1]Technical issues[/h1]
Now, before I can actually start the review properly, let me begin by stating that I had to edit some game files to even get the game to run. Personally, I don't mind, since I'm used to doing tricks to get old games to run in DOSBox, but for the average Steam user, it might be a bit of a hassle. So be warned of this. Having said that, there's enough guides explaining how you can get the game to run, and it's relatively easy if you're a [i]somewhat[/i] experienced Windows and Steam user.
Once in the game, I also had difficulties with the cutscenes between the acts. Even though the sound was playing normally, I didn't get the video to play at all with Windows 10. I never bothered to get them to work, since there's only a few and you don't miss much if you skip them. There's some guides with tips on how you can get them to run, which might or might not work; I simply watched them on YouTube.
Much more annoying was the fact that the further I got into the game, the more often the game would suddenly crash at seemingly random intervals. Luckily, the game has a good autosave function, so I never lost much progress, but it was annoying nonetheless, especially since loading times at startup are quite long.

In Ceville, you play as the evil ruler with the same name who, after being dethroned by his rebellious citizens and losing his throne to his former advisor, tries to take his throne back.
The game was released in 2009, but visually, it looks more like the 3d-games from the late 1990's or early 2000's. The graphics are ok, though, and reminded me somewhat of the Telltale "Sam & Max" and "Tales of Monkey Island" series (although those were both way better in the visual department IMHO). The character models are also "ok", although animations are pretty janky pretty often. Locations are interesting, varied and colorful; on some occasions, items blend into the background a bit too much to my liking, though. Nice touches are the camera swivels that are applied while walking through a location, as well as some "picture in picture" scenes during some of the puzzles.
The UI is overall very intuitive. Use left-click to move, talk or interact, right-click is the default to look at things. Double-left-click makes the characters run instead of walk and exit points are obvious enough in each location. In the bottom, your inventory is shown; just a minor nuisance is that after you tried to use an item to no avail, the game automatically deselects said item. It would have been easier if the item would stay "selected", so you could easily try to use the same item with another person or item on the screen. Instead, you have to re-select the item over and over again.
Music-wise, the game is ok. Music is overall varied enough to not get boring or irritating while you're traveling through locations, but it might get repetitive if you're stuck in one location for a while. Sound effects are limited to footsteps, some birds in the background and some basic sounds in the in-game cutscenes. All dialogue in the game is fully voice-acted, though, and the voices are varied and fit the characters nicely.
As far as gameplay is concerned, the game is decent. Dialogue options (which can be skipped with a mouse-click) are fairly extensive, and at times rather amusing if you like cheesy humor. The puzzles aren't overly complicated, although you might miss an object or two because they either blend into the scenery a lot, or because interactable objects are sometimes very close to one another, so that you might miss the "hot spot", especially at certain camera angles (once you walk through the location, it sometimes becomes easier to spot objects or interact with them). A lot of the puzzles feature nice animations or mini-cutscenes, but sometimes, character animations are janky and rather slow, which can be a bit frustrating when you need to exchange inventory items between characters. And in several parts of the game, you [i]will[/i] be switching between characters and trying to get stuff from one character to another, in a somewhat similar fashion to using the time machines in Day of the Tentacle. Also, the game features a handful of "timed puzzles", where you have to do the right thing before a counter reaches 0. Even though you can easily retry them, I've personally never been a fan of these kinds of puzzles, but that's a matter of taste, presumably.
If you're an experienced adventure-player, you'll probably finish the game in around 10 hours or so. The ending neatly wraps things up, and even leaves room for a sequel (although I doubt that there ever will be one).

If you overlook the technical difficulties, Ceville is a pretty decent point & click adventure for its time. It won't blow your mind away, but at the current price of 4 euro's, you get enough decent gameplay and story in return. It's worth the money at this price, even more so if it's on a sale. On a 10-point scale, I'd rate it at about a 6,5 or 7 out of 10.
Very nice game. Gets tad slow at times but it feels very rewarding when you solve a particular puzzle without walkthrough.
I just loved the remark Ceville makes after the election. That alone earns the game 8 out of 10 . I would have rated it even higher (even 10) if it was paced better and controls were a little better. Double click to run does not work as desired.
BTW, don't see my playtime. I am offline gamer. I play most games offline.

Ceville es un juego que te coloca en el papel de un tirano bastante peculiar y algo extravagante. Es una delicia para los fans de este genero (point and click - aventura gráfica), tiene muchas referencias a otros videojuegos, al cine, hasta los estilos de vida actuales (siendo que en este juego estamos en la edad de los castillos) que resultan muy hilarantes y sobre todo en ocasiones se puede notar algunas criticas bien construidas a la sociedad actual que aun pueden hacer ruido (hago énfasis en aun porque este juego tiene sus años salio en el 2009 y esta reseña es del 2020). El juego no aburre en ningún momento aveces puede ser algo repetitivo y poco lógico pero eso pasa en ocasiones contadas con los dedos de la mano.
Ceville es un juego muy recomendable su precio hoy en día es muy barato, su duración puede llegar a ser de 6 a 10 horas a mi me costo pasarlo 8 horas y poco mas. Como muy probablemente hayas visto en los otros análisis este juego cuenta con traducción por fans al español
La memoria gioca brutti scherzi, me lo ricordavo molto più godibile. È funestato dai bug ma ho visto di peggio. Per poco più di 1€ non mi posso lamentare più di tanto.

This is a fun little fantasy point and click; where you switch between 3 characters. It followed the Monkey Island "No dead ends / no death" formula as most games today, and seemed inspired by Book of Unwritten Tales. The main twist is that the primary character is an evil tyrant trying to get back his kingdom instead of a Hero. The game was a lot longer than I expected, which was a joy to see a game with some depth.
However, this is also the most bug ridden game I have played a long time. I could not get cut scenes to show video--only audio. After finishing, I found a youtube walkthrough to see what I missed. The published work-arounds which instructed to edit the config file to not play the game in full screen did solve the issue of hidden cut scenes.
Additionally, the game would often hang with no response or crash to the desktop; sometimes losing progress sometimes not. This was especially prevalent in Chapter 2.
This is Yes, with a big but. Buy it on sale a really good sale. This is not a bad game, but it does fall short of the book of unwritten tales standard of adventure IMHO. I feel like this game would be like the distant cousin, still part of the family but not exactly. I enjoyed it, but I must admit I was ready for the end of the game. The dialogue could've been better, I like the ability to choose different things and get funny responses. Not just ask once and you are in a loop of the same thing. Screen travel was very clunky, but given the age of the title easily forgiven. You can tell this game was made with love but I feel the story falls a bit short. Having said that if this studio did another title with modern graphics, etc, I think it would be great. A map to quick travel at the start would've been very helpful.

Не рекомендую, потому что игра оказалась очень противной, даже более противной, чем можно представить по описанию, Например, тебе приносят бургер с крысой и ты его съедаешь. Вернула её после 20 минут, хотя вообще люблю почти все поинт-энд-клик игры.
This game is a buggy mess with ridiculously shallow humour and downright idiotic puzzles.
I experienced about 15 crashes in 3 hours of gameplay, which would not even be fine, if the loading times were not as obnoxiously long. That, again, wouldn't be as frustrating without the game softlocking from being stuck in an animation. To top it off, the interaction feels extremely sluggish - animations are very slow, you have to click multiple times to execute something, 'cause somewhere someone was still talking and you had to cancel the dialogue, POIs are partially so close together, that you have to aim precisely in order to click the right thing and so on.
Humour is a question of taste, so I'll stay descriptive here: Obvious pop cultural references, a few unimaginative puns and, mainly, one protagonist likes a thing so the other one must comment in a that-hip-sarcastic-mom-at-the-parent-teacher-conference manner. In Germany, we call that "Allmanhumor". Even if that's your thing, it gets old pretty fast.
The puzzle design is unintuitive even for someone, who sat through notorious 90's adventure games. It's not hard by any means, but so absurdly arbitrary, that you'll be thrown out of flow every 10 or so actions.
All in all, it's deeply dissatisfying and one of the worst point'n'click adventure experiences I ever had.
