In honor of the December holidays developers Phogia Game Studio released a special holiday update for the monster game Carrion called the Greatest Time of the Year. This update is free for players and features a brand new level for players to complete in-game. This DLC level tasks players with taking the monster through a base that has been decorated for the holidays.

Short game, but it's excellent and brutal in all ways.
My only nitpick is that it lacks a map, and since I'm bad at memorizing things, I needed to use an online map because I kept getting lost in the Frontiers in the final hour, when I was collecting all of the containment unit abilities.

Other than that, this game is seriously amazing, the soundtrack, gameplay, visuals and the sheer brutality involved more than make up for the lack of a map.
Probably the best "Reverse Horror Game" (You are the monster and have to kill people instead of being a person and having to avoid the monster) that I've ever played.

Edit: SPOILERS FOR THE ENDING!
[spoiler] The ending is really amazing as well because it leaves on such an open ended note. After the monster disguises itself as a human and manages to escape the facility, nothing is really shown or implied. Does it continue its killing spree on the city, or does it achieve a higher level of intelligence and try to pursue a normal life in its disguise? We may never know the true answer, and that's why I like it so much. [/spoiler]

Звуки, стиль, геймплей! Мне нравится всё!
Я так давно мечтал об игре где ты монстр и все тебя боятся, и вот она!
И вот я наконец-то смог накопить на неё пропуская обеды, чтобы поддержать разработчиков и играть в неё время от времени, но уже полностью законно.
Очень сильно жду продолжение, или хотя бы DLC что бы полазить по новым локациям и поубивать людей решая головоломки.

I usually write reviews just for rofls, but now I just want to recommend a game. I liked the idea of playing as a biohazard monster. I thought it would be some kind of roguelike with gameplay like Hungry Shark ^^ I wasn't wrong about that last one, but the game itself turned out to be a Metroidvania, which I usually don't like because you can easily forget where the shortcut is blocked and what kind of obstacles are there. But here the game is quite forgiving, and clearing everything completely isn't difficult, but it's only necessary for 100% achievements. A very well-made indie game. It's also nice that you can play it on a MacBook, on the go, without using a mouse.

Я обычно пишу обзоры чтобы было хихихаха, но тут хочется просто порекомендовать игрулю. Мне понравилась идея игры за биохазардное чудище. И я думал что это будет какой-то рогалик с геймплеем как у hungry shark^^ с последним я не ошибся, но вот сама игра оказалась метроидванией, которые обычно мне не нравятся, по той причине, что можно банально забыть где шорткат закрыт и каким типом преграды. Но здесь игра довольно щадяще водит по локации и в принципе зачищать все целиком не сложно, но и нужно только для 100% ачивок. Очень хорошо сделаная инди игра. Еще приятно что ее можно пройти на маке, в дороге, не используя мышь.

Absolutely LOVE this game. I find it confusing at times, but that makes it all the better for me. It's difficult and it challenges you often, especially mid to late game, but it isn't too difficult and I haven't rage quit once (yet). The gore is beautiful, the sounds are crisp, and the gameplay is constantly engaging. The progression is balanced and the game gives you a bigger threat every time you become stronger. All in all, CARRION is the perfect side-scroller game for anyone who wants to turn the tables and be the horrid creature haunting these feeble, supple humans' nightmares.

From start to end, the game felt like it was teaching you something. Most horror games---or movies at that---teach you to hide and out smart the monster before showing it isn't all lost. Carrion is absolutely flipping that off.

As you slither through the winding passage ways, murdering hundreds, each and every area tells you how much of an advantage you really have. Even though I personally have not 100%'d the game, I can definitely tell you it is worth a buy. Yes, the puzzles can be repetitive; and yes, the enemies can be overpowered. But that just is there to teach you---to make you *think* about your moves. It's not just a simple kill everything you win, it's a hide through vents, distract and confuse, and finally rip apart the facility from the inside-out.

To really say it in a last sentence: Carrion is not a game, it's a statement.

Plays perfectly on Steam Deck.

Carrion has been best described as a "reverse Metroidvania." You play as a gibbering thing from beyond, exploring a Metroidvania style map and consuming everything you find there. It's a clever inversion of the basic idea, aided by smooth graphics, ambient music and sound effects, and silky smooth controls.

It's not all great, though. The lack of an in-game map makes sense narratively, but doesn't make the game more fun to play. Especially in the endgame you can find yourself scrambling around the areas looking for that one tube or humans in it, which indicates you haven't been there yet. The controls when your monster gets full size can really start to fight against you (which, again, make sense narratively, but can be frustrating as a game experience).

But the games biggest sin is just that it goes on a little bit too long. Fundamentally there are only a handful of puzzles, and 90% of the challenge is just figuring out which of the abilities you need to get by those puzzles. The worst type of puzzles in the games are when you have to backtrack to a pool to change into form 1 to flip a switch from a distance, then back to that pool to switch to form 2 to do something else, since each form has its own abilities...

And combat isn't great. Most encounters come down to: burst through a door or barrier into an area, spam attacks to take out as many humans as possible, retreat if needed to heal, repeat. Unfortunately I'm not sure how it could be done better without completely rewriting the flow of the game, making it another sacrifice of gameplay to narrative.

And that's the fundamental story to Carrion. It's an original idea done extremely well, limited most by its own originality. There's a lot of fun to be had here, as long as you're willing to meet the game on its own level.

玩了10个小时，把红怪给全成就了，本作的优缺点很突出，首先优点是以怪物为主角，所以面对手无寸铁的人类，可以任意屠杀，同时在地图中有类似银河恶魔城的地图探索设计，部分地区探索可以得到技能，同时也有找钥匙（繁殖体），部分区域因为能力不足，所以需要后期探索。剧情有深度，同时可以通过官方漫画补充。但缺点是虽然普通人没法对你造成影响，但有防护服的人、无人机对你的威胁很打，通常就算是所有技能都解锁了但也无法正面解决，更不要说是机甲了，简直是降维打击。技能解锁过于分散，本作把收集品和部分技能绑定在一起导致，一些升级根本无用武之地就通关了。同时没有地图，一但迷路只能摸瞎，解密十分平庸，玩法单一，但扮演怪物还是有点意思的，所以如果喜欢这口的可以尝试一下，对于不喜欢回到某个地方探索的朋友不推荐。

As you play more and more you start to think like the creature and act like it would in your own horror movie. stalking and then making the kill feels satisfying as well as some not all of the puzzles, yes they add variety to the game and make it feel like this thing is smarter than just a hungry blob but i would say it takes away from the actual gameplay. over all its this game is a classic and if found on sale is a must have.

与传统恐怖游戏相反的逆转恐怖玩法很吸引人，不过相较于玩法，游戏里面的触手更吸引我。手机上虽然也可以玩，不过我还是建议大屏幕玩这款游戏。比手机上更加带感。游戏本体6小时左右可以通关，没有地图的设定会浪费许多时间用来解密，战斗内容比较少。全成就好弄

Juego super divertido. Básicamente eres un alíen y tienes que ir resolviendo puzles y luchando contra soldados para salir de un laboratorio, mientras vas acumulando diferentes habilidades. Es relativamente corto, yo me lo pasé en 4,5 horas, añádele una hora más o dos si quieren encontrar todos los coleccionables (9).
Los requisitos gráficos que tiene son poquísimos (es un pixel art en 2D) y ocupa muy poco espacio.
En resumen, si quieres descansar y jugar algo rápido, este es tú juego :)

自らを監禁していた防弾ガラスを破壊し、外へと這い出したその怪物は、本能の赴くままに施設を蹂躙し始める。次々と研究員や警備兵を捕食して自身の質量（サイズ）を拡大させながら、施設からの完全なる脱出を目指す「怪物側」の復讐劇である。

「恐怖の対象（モンスター）」を操作し、逃げ惑う人間たちを狩っていくリバース（逆）ホラー・アクション。

非常に滑らかでウネウネと動くドット絵の触手アニメーションが美しく、ダクトを這い回り、死角から人間を引きずり込むエイリアンのような挙動を高いクオリティで再現している。ただし、ゲームジャンルとしては純粋なアクションというより、能力を獲得して行動範囲を広げていく「メトロイドヴァニア」に属する作品だ。

[b]「喰えば、喰うほど、強くなる！」[/b]午後のロードショーに出てきそうな怪物。

トイレで一服している研究所職員だろうが、恐慌状態で乱射してくる重武装の警備隊までキャリオンはとにかく喰いまくる。喰って喰って喰いまくる、この圧倒的なプレイが本作の醍醐味だろう……と言いたいところだが、実際の本作はモンスターパニックではなく、探索とパズルの要素が強いメトロイドヴァニアである。

本作のめんどくさい所は、キャリオンの「質量（サイズ）」によって使えるスキルが完全に異なるというプレイスタイルだ。
一番小さいサイズなら「透明化」や「蜘蛛の巣によるスイッチ操作」ができるが、人間を喰って中〜大サイズに成長してしまうと、それらの能力が一切使えなくなってしまう。そのため、「このドアを開けるためには、わざわざ水溜まりにあるプールに自分の肉片（質量）をペッと吐き捨てて、一番小さいサイズにダイエットしてからやり直す」という、ひどく理知的なパズルを頻繁に強要されるのだ。
おまけに本作には「全体マップ」が存在しないため、入り組んだ施設内で自分がどこにいるのか分からなくなり、無敵のバケモノのはずが同じ通路を何度もウロウロと迷子になるハメになる。

それなので、[b]人間どもを嫌いな上司やモン客（モンスターカスタマー）に見立てて[/b]食い殺してストレス発散したい人や、頭を空っぽにして食い道楽したいという人は、そのパズルの手間や迷子によるテンポの悪さに戸惑うことになるので注意が必要だ。

[h1]評価[/h1]
【GOOD】
・ドット絵で描かれた触手アニメーションの生々しさと、人間を捕食したときのグロテスクな爽快感。
・人間側ではなく「恐怖の怪物側」をプレイするという、ありそうでなかったリバースホラーのコンセプト。
・重武装の兵士や火炎放射器などを相手に、地の利（ダクトや水場）を活かして襲い掛かるプレデター的な戦術。

【BAD】
・[b]マップがないことによる迷子ストレス。[/b] 似たような景観の施設を行き来するゲームなのにマップがないため、純粋にイライラする。
・[b]パズルに寄ったゲーム性。[/b] 質量（サイズ）をわざわざ減らさないと進めないギミックが多く、怪物の「圧倒的な暴力」で押し切る爽快感を削いでしまっている。

O jogo não tem uma HISTÓRIA; é basicamente cientistas que acharam você (o monstro) e te aprisionaram. Cabe a você sair das instalações e infectar o mundo.

Os gráficos são simples e um pouquinho para o lado da arte de pixel, mas muito pouco mesmo. Achei que tudo combinou aqui, principalmente o design do monstro, que lembra muito o Blob, a bola assassina kkkkkkk. Só achei os mapas das instalações meio genéricos; teve uma ou outra que deu uma diferença, mas a maioria é idêntica, o que deixava o jogo um pouco monótono, não parecia que você estava avançando.

O que brilha aqui é a jogabilidade! É muito prazeroso ser um monstro. Você é muito rápido, e, conforme vai se alimentando e adquirindo os colecionáveis do jogo, que são parte sua que foi separada de você, e itens nucleares, você vai ganhando poderes que te ajudam a fazer puzzles e abrir os novos mapas até chegar à habilidade final que vai te fazer zerar o game. O jogo também tem uma pequena DLC de natal, somente uma fase separada e nada mais, com um final diferente.

O jogo só tem alguns pontos negativos para mim. Primeiro que ele é MUITO curto; em 4h você zera e completa 100%, e pelo valor que ele é vendido, é sacanagem. Mas você encontra ele barato fora da Steam; eu mesmo peguei por 12 no Eneba. E a falta de um mapa. Nossa, como um mapa ajudaria aqui. Principalmente no final do game, quando você tem todas as habilidades e pode voltar para trás para pegar colecionáveis que não pegou para 100% o jogo. Mas como o jogo não tem mapa, e as salas são praticamente labirintos, você fica no mínimo 1h vasculando as salas várias e várias vezes até achar a que você queria ir. Um mapinha aqui já seria suficiente para não perder tempo assim.

O jogo foi uma grande surpresa para mim; você é basicamente o The Thing, absorvendo outras pessoas, matando, espetando, eletrocutando e por aí vai. Acho que foram poucos jogos que realmente fizeram ter a sensação de ser um monstro de verdade; achei incrível. Me lembrou muito Hidden Deep, outro jogo bem parecido, só que você controla os humanos. Recomendo ambos, aliás, haha.

Кайфовая игра. По началу кажется, что все запутано, но позже во всем разбираешься. Проходится за ~9 часов со всеми достижениями и не успевает надоесть. На несколько вечеров самое то.
