This is absolutely one of my favorite games of all time. Despite the dated graphics, it stands the test of time. There's an endless array of options for how you want to build a business. Bascially, it's SimCity but for rich people, even if you're not. There's also a lot of great ideas inspired by actual textbook economics worth considering, in some ways transferable to real life! While I can't say it's true whether or not Harvard and Stanford professors have recommended this game to students learning commerce, it's pretty in-depth and fun to play, addictive even. Highly recommend!
Well, The Capitalism Lab is the real deal. This one is old. But very good game.
This was my favorite game for decades after it came out. Actually it probably is my favorite all time game. Yes it doesn't show I've played it much at this point on Steam, but, I had to buy it on steam because I give up trying to keep supplied with external optical drives in a world where they don't exactly make cd-rom/dvd-rom standard in all laptops these days. I have logged thousands of hours on Capitalism I and Capitalism II, Do I think there needs to be a Capitalism III? Yes, that would be nice, but... What I am wanting to say here is... The base game is great. But if you love the base game and aren't sure Capitalism Lab is worth adding, I am here to tell you its more than worth every penny. Крайне пиздатая игра, но!!!! Все самое "крутое" в Capitalism Lab (который возможно купить лишь через вк группу за 2599 ???) Как по мне, это бред. Лучше им допилить Capitalism Lab и выложить сюда, что повысит их доходы, а сейчас - проще сператить и получить тоже самое, но без шарма помощи и постоянных обновлений
This game is interesting and sufficiently deep, without being so deep as to be annoying. It has the vibe of the old simcity games (not so much the newer ones), and is a little clunky like they were. Most necessary QOL features are there, but the interface isn't great by today's standards. Definitely a little dated.
The gameplay is good and there's a decent amount of variety and ways to be successful. It has the proper "you have to have money to make money" thing going on for a game about capitalism, and getting over the hump to where you have enough money to make more is the primary challenge in many situations.
The game is a bit glitchy, particularly in the tutorials, but also in normal gameplay. Outside of the tutorials I didn't experience any that were game breaking but quite a few that cost me money to get rid of something and rebuild it to correct something that should have worked the first time.
All in all, a good time if you like the genre and have the patience to deal with a few of its issues, and its age.

Лучший бизнес симулятор, его использовали такие университеты, как Гарвард и Стенфорд для обучения своих студентов различным маркетинговым стратегиям. Эта игра не про "бесцельно отдохнуть", эта игра, а точнее тренажёр - для тех, кто хочет большего, но пока не очень уверен в своих силах. Как говорил один деятель: "Бизнес - это математика" - и данное явление как раз даст в полной мере понимание "что, зачем и почему"...
Лично я потратил 6 реальных лет, чтобы научиться играть (и то - только после изучения докторской диссертации по теме "Экономическое чудо Сталина"). Однозначно стоит своих денег, причём я бы рекомендовал воспользоваться возможностью апгрейда в самой игре до версии "Капитализм Лаб" + все ДЛС.

nice concept, shame it's bugged like ♥♥♥♥, competitors produce stuff from nothing even if you have a monopoly on raw materials and manufacturing ( even on a single city and with no ports importing that goods meh, set all on internal sale but actually it seems to do not work they keep producing stuff, perhaps from some mine and a lumber harvest already exhausted for some time ), plus the interface is terrible no filter no scope managment you have to check all the firms one by one manually,I don't think I'll play it again
Capitalism Labs is a brilliant game. But, this is not Capitalism Labs and it is not fun, at least not on Steam, due to issues like not recognising key and mouse clicks reliably. I spent too long trying to get the game to work properly to now apply for a refund. I would if I could even though it only cost a little more than a fiver.

Every first year MBA student should play this game through. Anyone who wants a thorough understanding of how capital markets work and why can get most of what they need here. And it's a fun sim.
Probly one of the Greatest sim games i have ever played
recently restarted on crappy pc. game imploded randomly after playing for 2 days with no problems. can't load save, start new game, nothing. re-installed, still nothing. tried windows 98 as admin, nothing. get open set error. tried launching the save file get resource error copied that file into save folder, gives same error. No clue how it's unusable after a 4 hour break of playing it perfectly fine. I've seen some wacky stuff with pc's and games but this might top the cake. also when it was working it stopped letting me issue stock for no reason after 1 year of in-game time, guessing its a bug, an extremely annoying one that early in the game when you have hard settings. was excited to try my new strategy to make my company profitable even with the stock bug in effect, but guess i'll never know
I tried it the first time and all the functions were a bit overwhelming so i quit it. I came back to give it a second chance and it's growing on me. Do the tutorial before playing anything else, it is very in-depth. Very enjoyable game!

Fun business simulation game. Takes a while to figure out the mechanics. Older game yes, but you won't find another game like this on Steam.
Holds its age very well. I play it more as a stock trading/venture capital simulator personally but really you can do a lot its completely up to you. Another case of what you see is what you get. Would recommend to someone who grew up playing older games and has a certain itch for finance based games. Don't expect to get your socks blown off but this is genuinely good fun once in a while to load up and mess around in. I think there is third party dlc that expands the game as well but I did not feel inclined to spend the money on that as well. Fills a particular niche that other games dont really come close to.

Ah, Capitalism 2; a classic for those who prefer outdated simplicity over actual depth. I made the mistake of suggesting Capitalism Labs is a far superior, expanded version, and suddenly I’ve become the villain. But sure, keep pretending that trading CDs and managing a stock portfolio in a dated system is better than a game with dozens more features and way more content.
But hey, if your idea of a great game is clinging to nostalgia instead of innovation, more power to you. I’ll stick with Capitalism Labs while you continue to celebrate the vintage experience of a game that hasn’t aged well. Enjoy!

Man, there's nothing to say, even today it's a reference in financial management and development games. I played it for the first time in 2004, and today it has many new features.
I recommend buying it through the developer's website; there are no patches or other language options on Steam.

Capitalism 2 has been one of my favorite PC games of all time. I have been playing it around 10 years ago and to be honest, it somehow helped me understand some jargon such as supply and demand which we took up during my Economics class then. It will overwhelm you, but the game is pretty much realistic and educational. I just hope that we have an option to do more than 4 products at a time.

Jogo que fez parte da minha infância; quando o encontrei na Steam, a nostalgia falou alto.
O game em si, é bom, tem muita coisa para se fazer (comprar e vender ações; abrir lojas - como mercado e farmácia, industrias de manufatura, fazendas, industrias de extrativismo e prédios comerciais/residenciais para locação), o que é muito bom, ainda mais para um game antigo.
Confesso que estava mais afim de jogar o Capitalism Lab (por ter mais recursos e suporte a mods), mas este não se encontra na Steam, o que acaba saindo bem caro, por ser vendido em dólar no site oficial deles; resta aguardar algum dia ele dar as caras por aqui.
No final das contas, se você gosta de jogo de gerenciamento bem completo e tem um pc batata, este aqui é pra você, compre numa promoção sem medo e se divirta. - Obs.: é provável que no começo você quebre a sua corporação varias vezes, mas isso faz parte, o negocio é persistir e aprender com os erros.

Overall a good game where you can decide on how you will be rich.
So absolutely amazing! 100% an amazing game, absolutely love it, it is so fun and enjoyable! 100% recommend buying.

Not worth the time or money.
The interface is flashy and colorful, but very poorly implemented, even by 2001 standards. For example: an in-game pop-up that announces that you have X years left to complete your objectives prevents you from pausing the game until you close the pop-up. While that pop-up is open, there is no way to pause the game, nor to change its speed. On maximum speed, modern computers simulate one in-game year in a matter of seconds. The rapid progression of time creates more and more of the same kind of pop-up, and then you lose. The only alternative to risking this outcome, is making time pass at a MUCH slower pace (think half-speed of a year 2001 computer system, vs. the full speed of a year 2024 computer system.)
If nothing else, this game appears to practice what it preaches: feels like a project to maximize profit with what the developers had at the time. It leverages flashy 2001 graphics and music, while re-using the same gameplay mechanics as the original. Quality of life wasn't even an afterthought - more like the absence of thought.
The prequel - Capitalism Plus - may be ugly, but I played it, and I can attest that it is more playable than this.
If you wanna learn or interested in it really helps you to learn a little bit about economy supplies prices businesses etc.

old game from like early 2000, fun to play when in chill mode.
A great classic that will teach you the fundamentals of business management, stock market, supply and demand for products.
The steam version received some love on the product / player artwork which is nice to see considering how old the game is and if you are wanting a modern version of the game Capitalism Labs is the best way to go, although it is not on steam...
The actual game itself:
Game play: Great game play considering the titles age.
Graphics: Not the best to look at if you prefer eye candy.
Sound: Not the most realistic sounds and only one music track while managing your empire, best to use a playlist consisting of city builder / tycoon music.
Multiplayer: I have yet to try it out.
In game settings: Not much in this area... No options for monitor resolutions or increasing eye candy.
If you enjoy Tycoon / City Builders this economic simulator might just be up your ally.
Beginners tip:
Soon as your company is financially stable add a headquarters with a executive office so your player / avatar can earn income working for your company and you can buy more stock in your company or others early in the game.
Note:
After playing the game for several hours I found a new bug in the game...
When you purchase a factory from another company that produces the same product as your factory it will reset the skill level of the workers to level 1... Hopefully this bug will be fixed soon.

Ich spiele dieses Spiel schon seit der Veröffentlichung - schon der Vorgänger war gelungen - ein ganz klassischer Tycoon Manager mit vielen gut dargestellten Artikeln in vielen Warengruppen.
Es gibt dieses Spiel auch in deutscher Sprache - es ist wirklich sehr Schade, das über Steam es keine Möglichkeit gibt die Sprache anzupassen.
Wer mit Englisch aber gut klar kommt, der sollte sich dieses Spiel unbedingt gönnen - es lohnt sich wirklich.
Die Anforderungen an die Auflösung sind heutzutage andere, aber es geht hier darum der Reichste zu werden und der Weg ist das Ziel und am Ende lohnt dann auch das Sieger Bild!

I played this game a little many, many years ago and wanted to have another go at it, mostly for the sake of nostalgia. I suppose back then I just didn't notice that this game was so rife with bugs, and not just the obvious ones in the tutorial campaign that make completing it rather tough. I really wanted to like this game, but with age and experience, I see the more general problems far more clearly than I did as a youth.
So many poor design choices were made in this game, it's difficult to know where to start. The main problem is that your and the other 'competitor' corporations are the only actors you can interface with outside of retail sales, but the market behaves as though there are others. So, for example, complementary goods don't function as you'd imagine. Example: breakfast cereal can easily outsell milk 3:1. Where are consumers getting the milk for all that breakfast cereal? Who knows! Maybe they're sharing...? No other firm you can see sells milk. I shudder at the possible substitutes. But, this always happens; you can be the sole source of a good and few or no people will be buying it, as though there's some great alternative.
And yet, there's no depth to the economy as far as YOU are concerned. You can't have a corporation that just produces shoes, like in the real world, for example. You need to have a corporation that has farms producing cows, sheep, leather, cotton, and wool, that then ships to factories to produce shoes, socks, and probably other things, then build a retail chain and sell them direct because there are not likely to be any other buyers running retail chains that can sell shoes, unless you are very unlucky. If you want your company to be viable producing shoes, you can't be Nike, you have to be Red Wing, just with a company-owned dealer chain.
It's nearly impossible to avoid the full vertical integration meta; in fact, you get punished often for relying on the sporadic AI sources for goods and materials. In the real world, vertically integrated corporations are often punished, and near the time when this game was produced, many conglomerates in the real world experienced corporate raiding and were forced to downsize and/or offshore. You can do neither effectively in this game due to the asinine way it calculates shipping cost and the randomly placed cities you can operate in. It doesn't appear there are really any differences in costs between locations anyway.
The UI is very not good. I suppose the idea was for the game not to just be a giant spreadsheet, but at least that's easier to grasp than what this game has going on. A lot of the information you would need to make good planning decisions is simply not provided, so you'll have to wing it and just figure it out. A lot of other information that would be good, you need to dig out from deep, deep within individual firm details, if it's there. Other, I would argue, very important information is hidden behind bars that you can't disable or exchange for actual units. Expect to micromanage things like retail sales pricing all the time. If you fail to micromanage, your sales pricing will eventually fall below cost due to inflation and you'll run negative margins without realizing it.
Other aspects of the game? Well, there aren't any, really. Sound is a throwaway, graphics appear to be lifted from Sim City 2000. There's a stock market, if you're into that sort of thing.
