I absolutely loved this game. I didn't want to review it until I completed all of the stages, partially because I was worried it'd ultimately peter out in some way. But, to me, it kept it up until the end.

I'd probably say it makes me think most of a combination of Astro Bot and Goemon. It has such a great style to it and really the entire presentation is just fantastic. It's certainly a platformer, but the focus is often l less on crazy acrobatics than it is on general exploration. I also really liked the way it uses drum sticks as your main source of combat, with a really fun control style that lets you control each arm separately for combos. You eventually unlock more attacks and transformations which I enjoyed.

It also has a pretty notable amount of content. It goes on longer than it might seem at first and there's quite a lot to collect. The stages are fun and varied. Everything is Japanese-inspired, so you travel to villages and onsens and mountains and everything in-between. Quite a few are open in a sense that I think some people won't like, but personally I found that setup enjoyable. Additionally, there are several stages that are racing or flying themed, which are actually fun and handled well (in so many platformers these are throwaways). The boss battles are also engaging and I particularly enjoyed the giant robot battles you wind up getting into.

The game is never hard, but you could leverage that complaint at a lot of similar games. I don't think it's a problem here. Like a lot of games in the "mascot platforming" genre that I think this fits into, you can focus plenty of time on collecting everything and trying to get the achievements. If you instead want to just barrel through the levels, I suppose you could do that too, but personally I think you're just setting yourself up for disappointment. This dev worked on Epic Yarn and Wooly World on the 3DS and I think that shows -- you could say a lot of the same "negatives" about those games, but I see them as positives.

I could tell I would enjoy this game, but I had no idea I'd keep coming back to it like I did. The fact that Good Feel has worked on so many Nintendo games is not at all surprising. Personally this hit a lot of right notes for me. I can't wait to see what they put out next.

An extremely fun game, very old school in style and very basic but not in a bad way. It reminds you of old school fun which games should be.

The style is whimsical and a delight. The only let down is the weak story. Another thing that annoyed me was the clunky mech fights, they were way to slow moving and clunky but since the game was easy its forgivable. It was only me chasing the achievement of no damage that annoyed me.

The game can get a tad repetitive especially when your skills barely evolve and there a tad too many levels but overall it was fun and not too taxing.

I bought this game heavily discounted (thankfully), on the premise that it's from the makers of Goemon.

It's barely that, but rather 60 levels that are a mixed salad of bare bones platforming, bad Mario Kart and Star Fox levels, some auto-scrollers, and maybe 10 or so legitimately interesting level ideas. This results in the game feeling incredibly padded, and you will be horrendously bored up until the tail end of the game where you will start seeing a couple of ideas that are neat.

The game's collectables are largely boring, and have no bearing on your progress: trivia facts, souvenirs, and tanuki. The former two have zero impact on your progress, and you can pretty much ignore them. The tanuki are there to help upgrade your mech, but I admit I couldn't be bothered to find them as you can brute force your way through pretty much all the mech fights with zero upgrades.

Unfortunately, due to the nature of the game sporting multiple level design ideas, you end up largely underwhelmed with very little to look forward. I was pretty much bored up until level 40 where some ideas started becoming interesting, but by then I learned you can skip past enemies beyond the ones you need to defeat for the stage's ending flag, as collectables had no real purpose. You can pretty much brute force all but one boss in the game (specifically a mech fight) and even that can still be muscled through to a degree, so I very much felt like I was on auto-pilot for the entirety of the game.

Only get this game if you have a kid to entertain, or perhaps someone new to games period. Even then, you're better off waiting for it to become heavily discounted.

Man, this one hurts to give a negative score but a game lives and dies by its design and Bakeru just doesn't have it. It's not just that the game is easy, its that there just isn't much going on at all. Which might be how they managed to stick 60-odd levels in this game. It's full of charm and fun on the surface and it reminds you of Ape Escape...but the game design has a lot of fundamental problems. You attack by hitting enemies with drumsticks using the left and right shoulder buttons. But because there is no damage or combo bonus for alternating the shoulder buttons, you can just press 1 button. The power-ups are uneven like the Issun powerup (useless). But honestly most of the sets are heavy on the horizontal and not much vertical. There just isn't much going on. This game is pure vibes. I only finished 8 levels and that was enough for me. In fact, according to the steam achievements only 40% of players even got that far. That's abysmal. I'm not even sure how many of the positive reviews finished this game cause it seems like maybe 15% of players got to the end. Now tell me, is that the sign of a game that could keep players engaged the whole way through? Save your money.

ロボ戦があるのにそこまでの導入が盛り上がりに欠けるのと巨大感があまり感じられないです。
装備とかアクション変化が乏しいので装備システムとか強化システムがもっと充実してたら良かったです。

Colosal sorpresa del género de las plataformas por parte de Good-Feel.
Desde que se anunció Bakeru le ♥♥♥♥ bajo el radar cómo algo a tener en cuenta. ¿Un juego de plataformas cargado de referencias a la cultura japonesa y su mitología? ¿Qué más podía querer?
Y así ha sido, después de pasar 15 horas en su mundo y disfrutar de cada nivel (ojo que son 63) la conclusión que se me queda es que ha sido un viaje sobresaliente.
Desde su apartado artístico que es una locura en cada fase, con sus alocados combates con bosses ya sea en forma de mecha o normal, pasando por el amor a Japón que cubre toda la experiencia, o su rítmica BSO, en general todo es una gozada para aquellos que somos fans de todo lo que venga del país del sol naciente.
Cuenta además con una jugabilidad muy divertida que hace que las sesiones de juego se pasen volando. En ningún momento he dejado de tener la sonrisa en la cara mientras jugaba a esta joya, era justo lo que esperaba encontrar (además de que amo al estudio creador responsable de las obras maestras de Yoshi's Woolly World y Kirby's Epic Yarn).
Bakeru ha sido una experiencia muy alocada, variada y divertida sobre todo, en la que se respira Japón en cada segundo que pasas jugando, ojalá más obras así.

I loaded this up with zero expectations. Not even 5 minutes into the game and I already knew I was going to love this. It's a pure Japanese game everything from the look, feel, characters, design it all just oozes that Japan vibe and it is as close to pure fire as any other post 2020 game that I've played.

If you enjoy Japanese games, culture, and content then do yourself a favor and play this.

買って積んでたけど最近やっと消化したのでレビュー。
ゲーム内の収集要素はフルコンプできた。

やはり、もうこれはゴエ●モンだ。
質感がソックリ。キャラ選択が2.3人できればもはや3Dにしたスーファミのゴエ。

敵の弾け方、ステージの多彩なギミック、三人称視点のシューティング面、あえて行動が不自由な巨大ロボ戦、アイテムの絶妙な隠し方、それぞれ既視感にあふれていてエモくなる。
「まんまじゃん」と・・。
SFC以後のゴエモンに抵抗が無ければそのまま楽しめることだろう。

以下あえて「気になったところ」(ゲームパッドでプレイ)
●両手溜め技が使いにくい
バチ攻撃でいくつか溜め攻撃があるのだが、両手溜めがジャンプするとキャンセルされたり、敵の攻撃を受けてもキャンセルされ、またジャンプ中にチャージできなかったりするのが気になった。
結局こちらがチャージしてるところに敵が来るまで待つ迎撃のような使い方しかできないのがやや気になった。(溜めながら歩行は可能だが)

●ダッシュ誤爆
ローリングとダッシュ(ローリング押しっぱ)がボタン兼用なので、ダッシュ開始するつもりでガケ際でウッカリ押すと不意にローリングが発動しそのまま落下一撃死を結構やらかしたのがややイライラした。

●強化要素がやや残念
攻撃力、スピード強化アイテムはステージ内で購入し、効果もステージ内限定。
永続強化要素がライフ増加しかない。
それこそ、両手溜めの硬直の回避、ジャンプ力、武器の射程・・などなどいろいろな強化ができればよかったかもしれない。

●ストーリーがちょっと弱い
ボスのオラクル祭太郎とのカラミや因縁みたいなものはほぼ無く、途中からポっと現れて唐突に戦うことになる。黒幕も同様。
すんにいたっては居る意味があったのかよくわからないくらい存在感がない・・・。

●主人公のデザインが・・。
上記のストーリーの希薄さにも絡むが、なぜこの格好にしちゃったのかと思ってしまった。
ストーリー的に理由があるのかとも思って期待しつつラストまでいったが特に言及もなく・・・。

・・とまあ気になったところを書いたが、最初に言ったように全体的には出来のいい作品である。
各ステージが日本各県ご当地の文物をモチーフとしてあり、時に強制スクロールあり、レースあり、シューティングありと多彩であった。
ステージの出来がよく難易度も絶妙、熱中して次から次へとさくさくと進めた。

もし「2」を作るなら、これらの不足・不満部分を補完した作品を作ったらかなりの好評を得そうだ。
そう思えるほど出来がいいと思う。

me lo he pasado muy bien en este juego, de principio a fin, es obvio que la inspiracion sale de mario, pero se nota que sabe darle un toque propio para que no termine siendo una copia barata.

Para sorpresa de nadie la historia no es digna de un oscar, pero la acompañan unos personajes divertidos que te hacen importar aunque sea un poco. El gameplay es sólido y muy entretenido. Si de alguna manera acaban teniendo una secuela (tienen muy fácil para hacerla) espero de corazón que arreglen los problemas, que no muchos, que tiene el juego que llegan a ser un tanto molestos.

This is a great platform game, very Japanese but this is why I love it, it reminds me of Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon on the N64.
Its got lots of variety and hidden items to collect, the Tanuki can be quite hard to spot.
The graphics is almost stylised like a Japanese storybook or artwork, the music is also very Japanese like exactly what you expect from this type of game.
The story is in Japanese with subtitles, I would have preferred English Dub, however this is not a big deal as most of the time you must read anyway.
The game is much longer then expected, I'm currently at 12 ours and still quite some time away from finishing the game.

If you like platform games, and liked Mystical Ninja give it a try.
I highly recommend this game.

I enjoyed my time with Bakeru, its a return to a genre that is on the come up again, a 3D action platformer. I like the parry and dodge, as well as the henge transformations, and the surprisingly large kit you have for combat. I like drumming between large lines of enemies, its a satisfying drum roll. the combat is a good way to modernize the genre I think. decently long, but unfortunately, Bakeru has two issues.

The issue is that the game is rather easy. Its definitely made for a younger audience, and the difficulty never really rises beyond what world 2 offers. I died rarely, going multiple worlds deathless. As a result theres not really a need to master bakerus combat unless youre going for the damageless achievements. The second issue is that there isnt much variety both in enemies, and levels. alot of enemy encounters and levels feel samey. Side note: It never ramps up visually either. it sticks to a party atmosphere due to the story. boss stages never look dour or anything as a result. Everything is very chill. If thats a flaw or not is up to you.

I did like my time with bakeru, but if you will, will depend on if the easy difficulty will be a dealbreaker for you.

Bakeru could pass as a remaster of a game from 2002, but in all the best ways. This is a collectathon platformer with the PS2 era's penchant for wacky settings and crazy enemy designs. It feels like a big budget Astro Bot-style release with its huge number of levels and how frequently it introduces a ton of content that's only used in one level, but it's an AA-priced game from a smaller publisher. It also deserves way more attention than it has received so far.

Bakeru sees you traveling to every prefecture in Japan and playing through at least one level representing each of them. The levels are all cartoonish versions of something famous about that place, such as the hot spring resorts of Gunma or Kumamoto Castle. Many of them won't be familiar to Western players, but the levels have collectable trivia scoops that usually clear up the reference once you find them. Most levels are expansive maps full of platforming and combat sequences in the way you'd expect from a PS2-style game, but there are also plenty that shake up the gameplay with racing, shoot-em-up, boss fights, and more. I can honestly say that this is as good as Astro Bot when it comes to creative levels. Most of them are so distinct that you could recognize them from a single random screenshot, and all of them are a joy to explore. They knocked it out of the park on level design.

Unfortunately, as great as the levels are, it also inherits janky combat from its PS2 ancestors. Combat revolves around using L1 and R1 to attack with your two drumsticks, and you can perform a whole host of different combos and moves based on mixing buttons and holding for charge attacks. You can also block or parry with R2, and you unlock transformations that give you temporarily different movesets as you progress through the story. It all sounds great, but it never really comes together. The biggest issue is that there's no animation canceling, so parrying moves usually doesn't work unless you're just standing around waiting for an attack. That's fine against one enemy, but if you're fighting a crowd or an enemy that can't be staggered, then there's not much to do except mash buttons until you win. That problem is only exacerbated by the large number of sword-wielding enemies that block most attacks and are most easily dealt with by pressing L1 and R1 as quickly as you can until you win. There are merchants throughout the levels that sell powerful healing items, instant revives, and even items that fully block damage for 30 seconds, so it feels like the devs knew this was a mess and compensated for it with power ups.

Outside of the world design and combat, Bakeru is competent in a way that's not likely to change your opinion beyond how you feel about those two main systems. The story is fine, but not memorable, and the soundtrack is decent but not particularly long. If you like the game, everything is good enough to support that. If you don't, none of it is good enough to change your mind.

Fantastic Mario like game with a japanese folklore twist.
If you like the 3d Mario games and the classic japanese writing style then you'll like this game.
The main character likes women and doesn't hide it which is great, he's not a total pervert but he does say when he thinks a girl is attractive. The game is also funny and entertaining in general.

Overall, this is a well crafted game with lot's of love put into it and great story and character writing. I'll be looking out for more games from this developer.

Bakeru is a 3D-Platformer and a spiritual successor to the unfortunately long-dormant Goemon series, heavily steeped in all manner of Japanese design and aesthetical choices. Though I am not the intended target audience, I would make the argument that it is an excellent game for kids. Which, apart from Nintendo and the odd game here and there (Astro Bot) often seem to be an afterthought even with the almost unlimited amount of games nowadays.

It is vibrant and colorful due to the graphical presentation and the upbeat music. All the character designs are cute and funny. The main antagonist is taking over Japan with a big festival, so most enemies are dancing around, which leads to a non-threatening atmosphere. The violence is mostly abstract, and the game is overall pretty easy, both regarding the combat and platforming.

For everyone else, it's still a good game but also a bit of a mixed bag. A lot of missed potential since the combat and platforming are lackluster, and the enjoyment mostly stems from the game being unapologetically Japanese without just being anime.

And for fans of the Goemon games, especially regarding both entries from the N64, this is not a continuation of that series for better or for worse. It takes a lot of inspiration from those past games, sometimes a bit too on the nose but lacking the impact (wink wink) and phenomenal soundtrack, while not differentiating itself enough from the past to establish its own identity.

Bakeru is a charming and innocent game mostly intended for a younger audience, but I would recommend it to anyone regardless. It's a charming and relaxing romp through Japan, and for Goemon fans, it's less nostalgia bait and more of a bittersweet reminder of the past.

Buen juego, una pena que sea tan desconocido. Me llamó inmediatamente la atención por su parecido al Gambare Goemon (curiosamente el de n64 nunca lo he jugado pero en supernes tuve el legend of mystical ninja, también poco conocido en europa, y es uno de mis juegos favoritos de la plataforma).

El juego sigue la estética de la saga goemon, rocky and pocky y similares pero como juego se nota que esta gente trabaja para Nintendo, la estructura de fases es muy mario en 3d.

Si te llama y lo ves a buen precio ni lo dudes.... Plataformas clásico y con temática japonesa a más no poder.

Comentar que las primeras fases son las peores, facilotas y un pelin genéricas pero luego arranca y es un no parar de variedad.. Con varios plot twist y cliffhangers muy al estilo Okami, que cuando parece que llegas al final hay nuevas sorpresas.
Recomendado sin duda.

A level-by-level 3D game that's heavy on exploration and crowd-control style combat. It has a fair bit of platforming too but it's not quite a collect-athon, as the collectibles are completely optional!
Bakeru's levels are structured less like obstacle courses and more like giant scenes for you to scamper around and interact with. The island setting of an anachronistic, fantasy Japan made me think of some of the levels in Mario Sunshine. There is a lot of variety outside of that too. Some levels feature racing on land and water as well as a couple flying 3D rail shooting sequences. As for the combat, it feels good and doesn't slow the game down. You can pretty much cheese every encounter with the transformations if you get stuck too.
The breezy approach to difficulty and level structure might turn some gamers off but I can recommend it to anyone who is looking for a game world that just let's you scurry around and explore for treasures at your leisure.
I was hoping this game might have some more absurd humor in it too, as it's connected to the Ganbare Goemon guy. Bakeru and his friends are charming enough but maybe a little generic? I hope this series gets a sequel so we could maybe see the dynamic of these characters taken to some weirder places!

実績コンプ済み。プレイ時間は放置時間を除くと20時間ほどです。

ゲーム全体を通した難易度は優しめながらも、非常に丁寧な作りのアクションは好感触！
50を超えるステージ数に、47都道府県を巡る中でプレイヤーがダレないように
普通の3Dアクションステージに、シューティング、レーシング、巨大ロボット戦など
豊富な遊びのかたちが用意されていたので、ゲーム開始からダレることなくクリアできました！

アクションに関しては、メイン武器であるバチと太鼓の使い勝手が非常に良く、終始これだけで攻略は可能ですが、
変化のチカラで使えるキンタロウ、モモタロウ、ウラシマタロウといったお伽噺の英雄たちの
チカラを使えばステージ攻略はより楽になるので、とにかくアクションゲームが不慣れな人たちにも
楽しんでほしい！！という開発側の優しさをひしひしと感じます。
ただウラシマタロウ変化が強すぎて、キンタロウとモモタロウは正直ほぼ使わなかったので、
もし次回作があるなら変化のチカラのバランス調整をお願いします！！

Bakeru reminds me a lot of Astro Bot and Kirby and the Forgotten land. I think if you enjoyed those games for their charm, personality and fun and simple gameplay then this is for you. Its honest and maybe quaint - something that feels plucked out of 2003.

That said, like a Kirby adventure there isnt much escalation in difficulty and the gameplay doesnt evolve much at all over the course of the run time. It's a fun palette cleanser but by the end of your journey you'll probably be ready for something more stimulating.

BAKERU is such a wonderful game that I knew I was in for a good time the moment I laid my eyes upon that sweet trailer! It reminded me of the good 3D platformers from the PS2 era, and let me tell you that even though it’s mainly aimed at kids, people from that generation are going to love BAKERU as well, mostly because it takes inspiration from the shonen anime from that era and the platformers such as Super Mario 3D Land/World, Crash Bandicoot, Kung Fu Panda etc. It feels like a great throwback to good old times!

The story and the gameplay are simple. You’re a member of the Tanuki Clan, a bit hot-headed at first, but meant to grow as the journey concludes. You meet Sun from the Issun Clan, who warns you about the Oracle Saitaro, who holds festivals all around Japan and brainwashes people, and the Fairy Tale Heroes, who are supposed to stand up against him, are already either brainwashed or caught up in their own problems to lift a finger. Therefore, you take the matter into your own hands as the Tanuki Master commands you to do so. As a Tanuki, you have the ability to shapeshift, or should I say, Henge. And that’s why Bakeru appears as a human rather than his original self!

Each level either follows a linear path or a semi-open world approach. The aim is to find three lanterns to stop the festival, but going after the collectibles makes the levels more interesting. They are also very easy to find! Apart from the regular 3D platforming levels, there are races, mecha battles, and dogfights! You also get the forms of the bosses after each fight thanks to your Henge ability, which adds a bit more variety in combat! The game constantly throws new stuff in your way to keep itself fresh, and it works most of the time. However, it gets a bit repetitive towards the end. Not that I’m complaining, but it could’ve been a bit better if it were a bit shorter, as it takes about 15 hours to complete! Nevertheless, I thoroughly enjoyed BAKERU. After all, it’s been a while since I felt like that kid!

A great 3D platformer that feels like a shonen anime from the 90s and early 2000s! It plays like Super Mario 3D World and has a lot of variety, such as races, dogfights, and mecha battles! Its combat is quite diverse as well, since you play as a Tanuki, your Henge ability allows you to shapeshift, which leads you to transform into forms of the bosses you defeat! BAKERU is a very good game, and if you’re sleeping on it, you’re missing out!

From the team that brought you the Goemon Games comes this spiritual successor of an IP.

When it first came out on the Switch, I specifically had it imported from Japan because not only did I want to play this colorful game, but I also wanted to show my love and support to them.

For one, I love the rainbow coloring to it with the transform gauge, along with other visuals. It's very vibrant, very colorful, very arcade-like.

There is only one downside and that's the bomb firework that can clear an area of enemies. The bright flash might be unfriendly to those that are photosensitive, so do be careful about that.

As for the rest of the game, I loved going through the stages, finding the various things that I could, and playing through. The new editions made in the update made some things easier while making other parts of the game a little more challenging. What's also nice with the Steam edition is I don't have to use a translator while I'm playing.

I know my hours don't reflect the amount of hours I put on the steam version, but I'll get back around to playing the steam version when I can. Please give it your love and support.

まだ初ボスを倒したあたりなのですが、う～ん…ボス戦はなかなか面白いんですけど。
ナシよりのアリ、という感じでしょうか…丁寧には作られているんですが
「星の数ほど出たPS2世代の特徴のないアクションゲーム」に近い仕上がりでちょっと期待外れ。
そうだとしても演出、システムともにあと1、2歩、踏み込みが足りない感じ。
成長要素とか変化を手に入れて戻ると進めるマップがあるとか、良ゲーの可能性はかなりあっただけに残念。
Switchで遊ぶ低年齢層向けなのかな？世界観は良いので、今後に期待を込めてサムズアップです。

戦艦分福で出てきたところでのレビューです。
アクションゲームが得意ではありませんが、６４時代はマリオなどを楽しんだ世代です。
デザインが気に入って購入しました。昔はこういう雰囲気の和ゲーが多かったですが、いまどきは珍しいですね。
ストーリーはわかりやすく、コロコロ感のある世界観です。

ゲームとしてはアクションゲームが得意な人には簡単かもしれませんが、ふだんあまりやらない自分には結構難しいと思いました。英雄（モモタロウなど日本昔話の登場人物）と戦うのですが、浦島と桃太郎にかなり苦戦しました。回復手段がないので初期ライフだと５回攻撃当てられたらやられるので。カメラが敵中心になるのが特に難しく感じる要因でした。
また基本的に１本道というか、道以外は見えないバリアが貼られていますが、たまにバリアがないエリアがあり落ちてしまう事も。川に落ちたら泳ぐことが出来ずそのままゲームオーバーでコインを盗られます。

距離感が掴みにくく、ジャンプで昇っていくのが大変です。マリオRPG（SFC）、クラッシュバンディクー（PS1）、バケルの３本が今までで距離感が掴みにくいと思ったゲームです。
一見賑やかな雰囲気がありますが、どこか寂しい感じがします。出来ることが少ないというかマップを眺めて楽しむなどもあまりないです。デザインは可愛いですがステージに遊び心がないというか。地域ごとの特色はそこまで強くないですね。
レース系マップも一人ぼっち感があります。
アクションマップ１ステージにかかる時間はけっこう長いです。「うんちく」や「おみやげ」を回収してると20分はかかります。小マップ機能があったほうが良いかなと思いました。探すのがやや面倒です。

戦闘は目玉である変化が非常に短い時間制限があるのでほとんど使いません。金太郎モードでしか壊せない壁・押せないオブジェクト、ウラシマの釣り竿でフックアクション、桃太郎の銃で離れたスイッチを押すなどステージ攻略に個性を活かせたらよかったかなと思います。シールドの発生やカメラワークなど反応が鈍いというかモッサリしています。コンボなどがただの連打しかないのでせっかく太鼓が武器なのでもっとリズム感良く色々出来たらという思いです。相手がノックバックしないので連打中も普通に攻撃されるのが痛いですね。

キャラクター衣装の変更はお面か変化しかないのがもったいないですね。お面だと顔が隠れてしまいますし、バケルに色々着せてあげたかったです。

批判的に書いてしまいましたが、それでもゲームの雰囲気、デザインは好きです。
キャラクターデザインなど現代の一般に受けるものではないので売れ行きはあまり良くないんだと思いますが、
リアル等身や萌え系のゲームは辟易しているので、もっとこういったゲームが増えてくれればいいなと思います。

Im Ganzen eine nette Spiel Erfahrung. Mir gefallen die Trivias gut. In den Levels sind je 5 davon und haben allgemeine Informationen über Japan oder Themen, die Japaner wohl besonders interessant finden. Da habe ich auch erfahren "Edo" soll einst ein Spitzname für Tokyo gewesen sein.

I got this game as a gift. This is a very simple and fun game for weebs who know their Japanese folklore and regional stereotypes. It's a cute platformer reminiscent of Banjo-Kazooie from the developers of Danganronpa. Low on plot with very simple controls. It's a cute game to turn your brain off for when you need a break from soulslikes and just want to chill for a bit. You also learn a bunch from these little turds (literally, they're poop) spread out around the world with trivia about Japan and beyond. Fun for the whole family.
I will say that it's not exactly "challenging," except for trying to find all the collectibles. You can basically get through it with button-mashing and dying doesn't really make you lose anything except time. It's not Klonoa-level easy, so it's still fun and never boring. But it is clearly made for babby. Also, there's no fast travel on the overworld, which makes going back to earlier levels a bit slow.
I'd still recommend it for when it goes on sale just to have a good time.

Bakeru is a decent game. There's nothing about it that's really outstanding but it's still has enough quality to be fun from start to finish. This game is worth buying on sale. I know keeping the game simple was the dev's intention and it was made more so for kids in mind, but I do think the simplicity holds the game back. For a game with an action focus, combat is fairly uninteresting and encounters can feel rather samey.

This game is simple, but fun. Several stages are mostly linear with several enemies scattered throughout the levels. It's go from point A to B with many enemies in between. There are also racing and shooters stages to mix in some variety. The levels seem like they were heavily influenced by modern Mario titles (what platformer isn't?). The game features several levels. Over 60 levels that last and average of 10 minutes each. These levels also lean on the easier side. The only time I found the game difficult was when I encountered overwhelming amount of enemies. Rarely did my character die. After a long play session, this game can become tedious at times. Still the game loves to through in a few surprises here and there. Other gripes I had with this game include a camera that doesn't always capture the action well and those mech fights I could've done without. Bakeru may not set the bar higher for the 3D platformer genre, but if you like the genre consider getting it. It may not be perfect, but the whimsical charm of the game and the entertaining levels ultimately won me over.

About the Gameplay: A longer game than I honestly expected at the start, but nonetheless a good and competent 3D Platformer, which sets itself apart from other games in that category and does as much as it can to bring variety into the levels (atleast the regular ones). The racing levels are always fun and the collectibles reward with silly, but also neat souvenirs and funfacts, which is quite charming and makes you wanna go take a deeper look into all corners.
About the Story: Relatively simple, but neat aswell.
About the Bosses: The regular bosses are overall pretty simple to beat with Henge and ESPECIALLY Items. Maybe the final boss could have had a 3rd phase, short but more difficult, aswell to make it even better, but I honestly like them how they are. The Giant Boss battles however made a pretty mixed impression on me, considering you can barely move at all and move so slowly, that you are kinda forced to get defensively or risk a chance of 90% to get badly punished with big damage. (If you made a second game to this, Good feel (which I honestly wanna hope for), then please make the robots one can move slightly faster...) It just makes them often unnormally frustrating.
About the Music: Sadly does not change that often, but the existing OST is good.
About the FInal: Not that challenging in terms of platforming, but surely makes fun.

Overall: If you have time to spend and feel like newer 3D Platformers like Donkey Kong Bananza is nothing for you, please feel freet to try this out, despite of its minor setbacks here and there. My Rating: 8,75/10

bakeru is fun, straighforward, and unapologeticially japanese.

on a basic level, the game is very much an action-adventure romp. you go through stages, beat up enemies, knock off a couple objectives, maybe do a pit of platforming here and there, and move on. while there's something to be said about the length of the adventure, which could be cut by maybe 10-20%, the pace is relatively brisk and nothing really lingers.

with that said, i don't think i'd recommend 100%ing the game. when i said it is unapologeticially japanese, that translates to a couple things : stages are themed around the region they are set in, but it also extends to the collectibles. which are souvenirs and 5 pieces of trivia per stage. honestly? i do not think they are super worth it. i think it's worth exploring a tiny bit to see the full layout of the stages, but i don't think you should wrack your brain trying to find all the tiny collectibles and pieces of trivia the game has to offer.

arguably, one of the collectibles, the hidden tanukis, serves an actual purpose. namely, upgrading your ship in the second half of the game. with that said, i don't think the game is hard enough to warrant hunting those down, unless you absolutely need to see those achievements pop. similarly, there's achievements for not being hit by bosses, which i think is cool, but once again, not worth losing sleep over.

ultimately i guess that is some nitpicking (other than the length of the game), because what the game does, it does well in troves. stages are fun and diverse - some are shmups, some are races, some are side scrollers, some are boss fights, some are mecha fights, some are fixed angle stages. backing it up is a relatively simple (dodge, parry, attack) but fun combat system : enemies are very common across the stages, and beating them up for coins and power-up gauge feels very satisfying. the game also throws new enemies into the mix once in a while, for some enjoyable diversity.

as a whole, it feels like a tight package, that while it could've been shorter, is definitely at least worth your consideration and probably your time. good-feel makes good games, and i do not think bakeru is an exception to that rule.

If you're familiar with Good-Feel's other work for Nintendo, Bakeru is exactly the quality you might expect. If you're not, they made some of the mid-tier Nintendo games starring some of the mid-tier Nintendo characters (sorry Wario enjoyers).

As long as you're not expecting Mario or Zelda, Bakeru is an enjoyable, albeit simple, beat 'em up with modest platforming and collectibles aplenty. The style is lighthearted and evocative, hearkening back to games from a simpler era. The level variety initially appears robust, with stages featuring shoot 'em up sections, races, mecha fights, and multiple boss encounters, but the sheer volume of levels means that you're going to run into each style four or five times, just with an environment or BGM swap to accompany. By the end, I was more than ready for the game wrap up as I felt I had seen everything it wanted to show me around the 75% mark with all the repetition and undemanding gameplay. Despite the grievances, if you're after a budget-friendly Nintendo-like game on Steam, one from a notable second-party studio is about as close as you're going to get to an official release anytime soon.

Ah, I missed games like this. Truly. It doesn't need to be complex or isnanely challenging, just fun, and that's what I got. Fun. Lots of it actually. Bakeru is a lovely 3d platformer action/adventure game!

The core gameplay is very enjoyable, smacking down enemies with your sticks, which can be used in various way. Power-ups that you unlock to have even more variety in the way you fight.
Movement wise, not too much but the essential, jump, roll/evade, even a parry! All in all everything felt good to play

The settings of the game happens in Japan, infact, you will visit many, MANY location with a bunch of references and if you look for them, trivias about japan. It looks very colorful and good. This reminds me about game from the era of the gamecube/ps2! You will also get some levels that are like minigames, adds to the variety!

When it comes to achievements, it adds some spice to the otherwise easy game, but they are very doable and good challenges (such as no hit bosses). it was enjoyable to go for them.

Ill be honest, I only completed 3 levels while trying to collect everything and it felt incredibly rudimentary.
Character development, story, platforming, combat, level design. Yes, its very nice and shiny and it has a very nice theme going for it, but that only works for so long. Soundtrack also feels limited. Camera zoom and angles dont feel great.

I could feel while playing that the mechanics presented and the level design werent going to be developed into anything particularly good and based on other negative reviews it seems my suspicion is correct. So I decided to refund while I still have the opportunity.

Im not going to rate it because Ive seen too little of it to know what its worth, but from what Ive seen I dont think most adult gamers will find this entertaining enough to be satisfied throughout and after a playthrough.

Bakeru is a fun 3D platformer that takes you through all 47 prefectures of Japan. Anyone who is interested in Japan will have fun collecting souvenirs, learning trivia, and enjoying the impressionistic levels of each region. The gameplay is solid and the artstyle is cute and colorful. It plays like a sort of linear collectathon with combat and mild platforming challenges interspersed between. In the beginning I enjoyed collecting everything but towards the end it became a bit exhausting. I think there are improvements that could be made with enemy and level variety, but with so few new 3D platformers these days I'm glad this game exists in the first place.

AA games are so rare these days and often don't perform well financially. I'm not interested in a cost=time ratio for grading games so I think the price(on sale) is fair and is worth it to support more games like this. If Nintendo made this game people would gladly pay $70 for it.

[spoiler] I will say that turning Tokyo and Hokkaido into the equivalent of Bowser's Castle levels instead of actually showcasing the prefectures was a poor decision and left me pretty disapointed by the end of it. [/spoiler]

Discovered this game back when it was still a Nintendo Switch exclusive from Japan.
No problems with it, i think it's a pretty darn good game and it runs very good on a Ryzen 3 (which is my CPU)
If you haven't tried it, give it a try! I don't think you'll be disappointed.

ゴエモンのエッセンスは確かに引き継がれていて、登場キャラクターや演出で「おぉ」と思うことが多々あった

だけどプレイしていて感じるのはゴエモンが面白いと感じて、めちゃくちゃプレイした理由って「友達と協力プレイ」にあったんだなと実感した

思えばゴエモン衰退の一歩も３Dに進出してソロプレイ専用になってしまったからな気がする

このご時世でお家で一緒には難しいかもしれないが、オンライン協力プレイの実装はシリーズの復活には必要だと思う

正直３Dアクションゲームで得られる感覚ってどれも大差がなく、
変身や武器のバリエーションを増やしても新しい質の面白さには繋がらないと感じる

バケルが面白くない訳ではないためオススメで評価を入れるが、頑張って欲しいところ

遊戲整體系統紮實流暢,關卡行進,平台跳躍,戰鬥系統都打磨得很好
美術漂亮舒服,材質細節有特別和風巧思很喜歡
在有限的美術資源下能做出這麼多關卡還配合日本各地特色真的很棒
音樂曲子雖然不算很多但作曲水準都非常動聽很接近五右了,有幾首真的超好聽
遊戲整體非常有五右衛門的感覺,既懷念又新奇很讚

遊戲難度偏簡單,16小時就能全成就,
但是遊戲不一定要難才等於好玩,玩起來有趣舒服最重要

一些可惜的點:
全體角色魅力遠不如五右衛門系列
劇情有跟沒有差不多,大機器人戰手太短,而且那個拳擊倒數實在拖台錢
面具完全沒特殊功能只是來吃錢的
不過這些都是小問題,個人覺得不影響作品的優秀

Switch版的fps不穩玩起來很不舒服,所以又買了steam版
這遊戲我買了三個版本 =.=

This is a pretty good platformer game. You travel all across Japan collecting various souvenirs. Its not as good as the legends like Super Mario Odyssey or Astro Bot. But if you don't have a Nintendo Switch nor the Playstation 5 to play those games this is a great alternative.
