It's weird seeing this game that i bought on a whim years ago go from early access to no longer available on steam. (GOD I FEEL OLD). The game, from when i played it, was enjoyable and kept me entertained for awhile before inevitably I moved on to the next thing (Which ironically i think was Fallout 76). Now after reading the final developers note, I feel a sense of gratitude to have taken part in this game, knowing that I now have a small part of gaming history. So long, and godspeed.

Can't place buildings for construction unless you have all of the resources. Sounds ok, just gather some resources.
But if your first storage building is full then you can't collect any more resources.
So build another storage building, right? But you don't have enough wood.
So you just collect some more wood. But you can't, because your storage is full...

When i played this game years ago, i had so much fun trying its mechanics and new features. I was following the development closely. Unfortunately life happens and i haven't played in years. came to check on the game just to find out that it has shut down. Very sad indeed.

I wish i can recommend this game. It has as special place in my memory.

The studio behind Atomic Society has shut down and may I bid a kind farewell to them with one more positive review.

While I don't own this game (and won't be able to now), I have played this via my partners Steam Library Sharing and it was certainly... something. I won't lie, it was a bit frustrating at first trying to figure things out, but it was this sort of smaller game that didn't force too much on you at once and I respect that. Grew to enjoy it even with a short playtime.

I hope the studio behind this takes care.

Had a promising start, but no update since October 2021. The game has very little content in total. I'd say it isn't even worth $15 in its current state. Maybe $5-$10 or so. It gets repetitive really fast. Every city you build feels the exact same. So not much replayability.

The developers have removed it from the steam store. Changing to a positive review. My previous review was a warning to future customers. Now that there are no future customers, might as well give it a positive review.

In one game, one of my progeny stood next to a storage unit for thirty minutes and then died of thirst instead of just drinking some water.

In another game, my two year old daughter got depressed and killed herself.

The bones of a good game are here, but your citizens don't behave in a coherent enough way to make it fun.

This could have been a great game, the idea was fabulous. It is not at all fun.
The resource gathering doesn't make any sense and the buildings decay even faster than the population, who die off like flies and then cause a health hazard to the daft migrants that arrive. In addition they seem to be obsessed with toilets for people who havent managed to find any food for over a year, who would presumably manage to hide behind the trees you are not allowed to use for some reason for their meagre poops.
The research tree and the lawmaking tree are nice, but not all that helpful. Sense of fun entirely missing.
It is reasonably pretty and it is a nice landscape, but the idea of town leader having to spend all his time finding rubble and repairing toilets makes it a bit too havendock for me, sorry.
Get a better computer and a better post nuclear accident city builder, basically.

I had a lot of hopes for this game because I do really love survival games and city builders and this just seemed to put those two things together however I have to say the gameplay is very difficult in terms of population survivability and resource gathering. I understand that the premise is post-apocalyptic but I think the game would benefit from challenges like weather and building renewable resources rather than just straight-forward "there's nothing here". As it is, I think the game needs more diversity in city building and development (schools, training, bringing life back to the area through planting trees, etc). In its current state, I can't really recommend it to other players. It would probably benefit the game a lot to allow mods created by players.

the controls were not intuitive to me
the "tutorial" is a 30 page taxt the game throws at you at the start with a bunch of other stuff
personally im pretty much tldr to any of it until i gave a game a raw first try
i chose the green map preview with grass and trees but got a barren wasteland around a lake instead
every mile theres something you can loot like a building or car in the middle of nothing
no compounds like in every screenshop on the map i got
your people die ti dhiarrea because of too few toilets running around in circles doing nothing
while your mc keeps running between looting and storing trash
and every time i enter a building to do so the camera shakes unpleasantly and uncalled for

There's a reason that the majority of the reviews here are under 20h playtime, there simply isn't a whole lot to this game. Once you've passed the various laws and stopped your people from pooping to death, it kinda just...exists. There's no real need to change laws except to manage growth, there's not a whole hell of a lot to explore, nothing to unlock, and most importantly nothing to watch. Banished was great about this, so much of the joy of that game is watching your citizens tends farms and pastures and run chores, and seeing the landscape change with the seasons. Due to this game's player-character focus, the NPC settlers just meander about, slowly walking over to the occasional job or hang-out, in a way that's completely ignorable for the player.
And while I really like the idea of playing as the leader of a settlement, rather than the omnipotent governor of the city, virtually nothing would get done without the PC's effort. Fallout 4 does it much more satisfyingly, where the player gets the settlement established and only needs to interact with it to expand it. F4 settlers can be trusted to grow their own food, pump their own water, get salvage if given a station, engage in commerce if given a post, etc. In Atomic Society, the PC is constantly running around doing baseline tasks. It's just chores, over and over again.

Очередной, дропнутый со временем разработчиками проходняк. Прекрасный ответ на то, что игры в раннем доступе, являются покупками на свой страх и риск.

Весь контент игры, сводится к стандартному строительству домиков, который мы видели десять лет назад в Banished, из интересного здесь имеется лишь механика законов, которая до сих пор так и не появилась (или я в глаза долблюсь?) в Surviving Aftermath. Кстати, сделанная забавно. Чтобы прокликать все законы, нужно около двух часов реального времени. Потому что их много, их интересно чередовать или они требуют времени для освоения? Лысого. Там просто откат возможности выбрать следующий закон около 15 минут реального времени))

Игру не рекомендую к покупке совершенно. Максимум - скачать пейратку и поиграть пару часов. Игра не стоит свеч.

UPD: Ожидаемо, студия разработчиков объявила о прекращении поддержки игры. Модов нет, обнов - не ждите.

There's just something missing.
It's not complex, so it becomes repetitive fairly quickly. The leader is heavy micromanagement, while the rest of the citizens aren't manageable enough. And the detail in the game is lackluster.

Nice game. Seems very relaxing. Picked it up in the sale.

There doesn't seem to be much to do once you've built your town except keep adding more housing and then more buildings to support this. I'd prefer more actual goals to achieve. Maybe some end game content to work towards. At the minute it just seems like once you've done the grind to get a stable settlement, there isn't much of a reason to keep playing.

Have had my eye on this game for a while. Until recently I had been waiting for a sale and/or some more content before I hoped in. With the sale price putting it at $5.00 it seemed like a perfect time to give this game a shot.

Firstly Ill start this off by saying I am a big fan of the Fallout franchise. I think this is important because one of the primary things that drew me in was its theme. I love town building games, and I love fallout so naturally I find this combination very appealing. That being said I don't think you need to have a love for other titles to enjoy this game but I think it really helps.

Now I would like to talk about the things I like and what I wish was different.

All based on my opinion :)
Also this game is very much so in early access so regardless of anything I would change it is quite impressive!

Likes:
- Get right into the gameplay with informational but noninvasive tutorials.
- Good world diversity when selecting map.
- Religion and law system is fun.
- Expansion and building are straight forward, but remain engaging.
- Theme of UI, and game assets.
- Settler AI

What I would change:
- After a bit of gameplay the world space gets a bit bland. (Maybe some diversity in runes, and terrain.)
- I wish I could speed time a bit more. (I dont want to skip time but sometimes it is painful slugish EX walking crossmap)
- Late game management gets a bit messy and cluttered. (Regardless of setup I felt as if I was always in a sprint to stay on top)

It's a good game!
It has a bit of a learning curve to it, sure, but it's worth it.
It's pretty basic for its genre, however it includes a good number of maps, and you can have your society in a different place in each of those maps. Bonus points since there's a kind of story line to it.
For $15 I think it's worth the price.

I'm someone who enjoys games like Rimworld and Banished, and I wholeheartedly recommend this game.

The UI is very bad: It looks like a game from the 90s; scroll container do show all the content; if you move a tab out of a window, it cannot be reattached and you might move it in a way that it's stuck half out of the screen etc.

Being a fan of the post-apocalyptic genre, I have to say this game makes my mind travel to a world destroyed by the hands of men, where one has to build hope, in a world without hope, like many other games, but there's a difference. Simplicity. Atomic Society is a game that's accessible to almost everyone, very easy to pick up, learn and play, and to me, a game without too much complexity, is a game worth playing, and well worth its price tag.

This feels like two halves of two different games glued together. It's got Tropico-style decrees which, let's be honest, aren't a very deep or engaging part of Tropico (and Tropico did it better than Atomic Society). It's also got resource collecting and building stuff to keep your citizens alive and possibly happy in the style of a lot of survival city builders, but it's very janky about just what counts as meeting someone's needs. It's not completely unplayable, but it's not good either.

Overall, I am going to give this game a thumps up, however I personally would wait until it is on sale. I enjoyed playing this game and the concept for 13 hours, but after that it was pretty repetitive for me, so take that in mind when considering the cost vs. entertainment value.

Pretty fun game with some great potential. This is a work in progress so any frustrations you have will probably eventually be taken car of. For me this feels like a fun cross between Banished and Fallout but so far lacking the strengths of either. I really enjoy the game and hope they add a little more in to keep the long term players happy and busy.

So, I would like to commend the developer(s) for this game. It shows a lot of effort and a the great base for a game is here. Buuut, for a released game, its too shallow, as many have pointed out.
The tech list has about 10 items that can be unlocked with no prerequisite at all, just waiting, there are almost no production chains, the upgrades consist on only one upgrade for each building and always with the same item, batteries, people are just a number that goes up and down with no real meaning and almost no impact on the game, etc.
So, yeah, the game is not bad, but is not at all a complete game. I cant imagine playing dozens of hours to this game. So I cant recommend it as a full release.

I have my gripes with the game, (especially the weird dependence on your main character), but they can probably be best summed up by other reviews. However this game is an interesting spin on the city building genre and it was developed by a small team of first-time game developers, if you already like city builders or the post-apocalyptic theme then you'll probably like Atomic Society and I'd say it's worth a buy.

Atomic Society has some nice and interesting elements, however, it just has some poor execution overall. Some incredibly frustrating mechanics around migrants and managing population is just plain strange and fails to provide any real control that you would have considering you're making a wasteland settlement (ie. can hang the population at will, but no fences or ability to make a basic stockade??!!).

Overall, there is just better out there with little real help available of the forums. Better off looking elsewhere.

This is such a weirdly neutered title. You are DEPENDENT on your starting character, who is the only person that can reasonably keep you in all the supplies you are DESPERATELY going to need. Your other villagers are awful at their jobs and cannot come close to your weird android ass leader. They are the biggest burden. There are games that I think aren't balanced well when it comes to resources and I think this is the worst I've played that wasn't a legitimate p2w whaling game like World of Tanks or War Thunder.

I've never had a game like this before where the death spiral happened before I even had the first building down. I would go into more detail here, but I feel like I already did enough work giving this game like $15.

I was kind of excited for this game. Saw reviews were mixed but figured, eh I'll give it a go.

It needs a ton of work. Just setting up is a garbled mess. Make a leader, okay fine. This is the only person you control. Um... k. And can salvage. Enough stop. I've played enough city builders to know the "leader" doesn't and shouldn't be doing all tasks. Because you, the overlord presiding over the populace, is already the GD leader! The tutorial is long, and purely, read this do this. Which worked for games like Banished and such but this... I clicked on my leader, (me) and had to click through the tutorial to figure out how to deselect myself. All the while WHOLE DAYS are vanishing at x1 speed but 1 night cycle at day 20. wtf?!?!?

This concept has a TON of potential but I had more fun with the incomplete Kingdoms Reborn than this.

The landscapes look great, not perfect, but when your 64 bit avatar people are moving about it, it looks exponentially bad juxtaposed to one another.

I could rant for longer than I actually played for how quickly I was discouraged to go on. I hope more work is put into it.

Le concept de construire une société avec une morale à définir est intéressant et plutôt bien géré, mais le reste du jeu est pour le moins sommaire.
Le jeu n'est ni beau, ni bien optimisé. Le gameplay devient vite inintéressant au bout d'une heure ou deux (construire les mêmes choses et donner les mêmes ordres encore et encore), le système de technologie n'est en faite qu'une dizaine de bâtiments à débloquer. Il y a quelques bugs et incohérences de temps en temps.

Je dirais que le concept était bon, mais mal réalisé.

When I bought the game I was expecting atomic warfare at some point but I guess not. It's just a build and survive type game and that really makes me mad because there is nothing to play for or gain from this other than see your town thrive or perish. Creativity goes a long way for a game such as adding in basic warfare, talking to civilians and where you can react to whatever they say, vehicles!? Where is the research to make your own vehicles or aircraft? No underground mining or construction, I would like to have built a bio lab and worked on making people monsters or animal hybrids and no Atomic bombs!? Its like you make a game not wanting to make money off it. What was the point of all this?

In a game where you advertise that you set laws you should have included debates, arguments, which people lie, cheat and steal, they come against you, create some chaos and drama here! If you see a potential group threatening your way of life you can either cope or annihilate them! You can be a diplomat or a brutal leader. Am I making sense here? I hope this game improves over time and you just think about adding in some fun and creative stuff. I want to support this game but its a wasteland out here!

Poco a poco va mejorando y me gusta ver que los creadores van retocandolo. Eso si, cuando me compre el juego esperaba otra cosa sin duda, parece que tengas que abarcar un monton de terreno para una poblacion al final irrisoria y hay muchas mecanicas que no me parecen coherentes, pero recalco eso, ha mejorado el juego y a dia de hoy empieza a parecer lo que se esperaba.

A good addition to the unfortunately pretty rare genre of rebuilding after apocalypse. I think the settlement scale is executed quite well and it's quite cheap for what it offers.

There's a lot I could say about this game but I'll keep it simple.

It's a apocalyptic civ game that has a lot to due with the more social aspect of surviving in a town.

Here's the NOT so simple explanation.

The game is fun, it was hard to find a game that doesn't just focus on combat in an apocalypse survival situation. This game is more of a keeping your people happy with the laws and your own societal construct rather than gather this resource and grind for it constantly. This isn't your regular apocalyptic survival game. It brings a different approach, rather than doing your basic survival, it gives you the chance to create a lifestyle in a survival scenario. The devs worked their asses off for this and it's another reason I support it. Highly recommended game.

Imagine SimCity 2000 set in something like the Wasteland universe with 50% more jank and a single hero unit you can control to do a lot of the building and resource gathering much faster than the NPCs. That's Atomic Society.

Is it the best game ever? No, not at all. But if you want a post-apocalyptic city builder your choices are limited, and the game is worth about $5 more than what they're selling it for (even without a sale) so just go ahead and buy it. It's worth the $15 to support an indie developer doing their best to make something fairly original that isn't just yet another battle royale or MOBA, and you get a decent game too.

If you like city-builders, you'll probably get your money's worth from Atomic Society.

I really want to recommend this game, but I can't. The mechanics are very shallow, and a lot of the choices are very obviously 'correct'. There are UI annoyances (you have to micromanage your leader, and the game likes to unpause on its own). There is virtually no research/upgrades/progression (every building has exactly one upgrade to it; there's no social progress or pushback on ideals/etc, everyone just goes along with whatever you say). The 'research' consists of unlocking less than a dozen buildings. It's often not clear why your settlement won't grow. Virtually none of the systems/mechanics intermesh in any way. The trade dialog stinks.

It's a pretty simple city builder, BUT it is very competently executed. There are no major bugs and scant few minor bugs. The graphics are decent and it plays well, and the tutorial does a good job getting you into the game. The various maps play very differently and require different strategies. I got about 10 good hours of the game, and I will probably play some more to get the mod unlocks.

If the game were in early access and there was more depth incoming, I would recommend the game completely-- but it's not. It's released and there's (afaik) no more depth incoming.
