非常好的boomer shooter， 简单解压爽，音乐和背景是有自己特色的，强化武器的设计也很棒，难度应该是比较低的，画面有点视觉污染，但是美术风格还算是自洽，我们需要让电子游戏重新变得简单纯粹！！！
It's okay, lore rich and well designed in level and concept. The weapons, music and mechanics though really do not keep me engaged. The enemy ai is pretty stupid and despite their variety follow the "rush the player" pathing. Which was tolerable until I got to the arcane expanse and realized the fatal flaw with the weapons which in a game like this is crucial. Only weapon I liked was the Ice morning star and the planetoid launcher, everything else felt mid. Mobility was also another drawback, verticle was like a 1 foot jump, but running speed with inertia disabled was like an ice skating rink.
After 100% completing the campaign this reminds me as much of Unreal 1 and Quake as it does Heretic or Hexen. An excellent tribute to those 90s FPS games but with nice modernisations.

Amid Evil is medival fantasy doom and that premise alone was enough to hook me on the first impression and the more I played the more I fell in love with both this games artstyle and genuine uniqueness from anything I have seen in the market for "boomer shooters".
The story goes you are the champion chosen by the gods to save their lands from primordial evil seeping within. Accomponied only by your trusty weapon the Axe of the Black Labyrinth you decimate and desecrate evildoers in your path in the pursuit of cleansing these lands of the wicked venturing from Astral Equinox to the endless void below.
The arsenal is genuinely so fun. Every weapon is chefs kiss, Whisper's Edge is my personal favourite. Such creative and cleaver takes on the classic weapon arsenal in the boomer shooter genre. (The BFG Equivelant in this game I shant spoil its something to behold yourself)
The score and art design is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ASTOUNDING. Every track feels borderline ethereal and grand as you traverse through the stages and the enviornments are designed so wonderfully its just a marvel to just stand and stare. This game also has ray tracing which is utterly ridiculous.
I def recommend this to anyone looking for a fresh take on the boomer shooter genre and anyone with a knack for fantasy designs as this game excels at those.

Although AMID EVIL is the weakest entry of the New Blood FPS trio IMO (DUSK, ULTRAKILL and this), this is still an enjoyable experience from start to finish that is absolutely worth replaying. I would even go as far as to say that it's still one of the better boomer shooters on Steam. Get this if you like boomer shooters.

ボタンによる回避もパリィもない、コンボだってももちろんない。
敵の攻撃はよく見て移動で避け、ひたすらに攻撃ボタンを押すだけ。
最近のFPSやアクションゲームに慣れている人は退屈だと思う。
ではこのゲームのストロングポイントは何なのか。
まず、敵のリアクションがいい。
プレイヤーのアクションに対して敵は真っ二つになり、黒焦げになり、爆散する。
遊んでいて気持ちよくなれる作用点がある。
次に、ロケーションがいいことだ。
探索する、敵に遭遇する、そして倒す、そのシーンそれぞれが「ステージ」であり、楽しく美しい。
そんな美しさにもかかわらず、グラフィック負荷は非常に低い。
最後にレベルデザインだ。
英語圏のゲームにおいてレベルとはマップのことだ。
ギミックは複雑ではないし、無駄に広くもなく、リニアなデザインのため迷うことがない。
前述したシーンが一つまた一つと過ぎていくうち、気付いたらゴールに導かれている。
オールドスクールの醍醐味を抽出しつつ、それに留まらないタイトルに興味があれば是非。

Great Boomer Shooter. Unique and varied weapon arsenal, beautiful graphics and art style, good level design. One of my favorite retro shooters so far.

I enjoyed AMID EVIL a lot more than I expected, and I feel that it is relatively underrated.
The levels are large, visually and aesthetically stunning, and very entertaining to complete. Level design is amazing honestly, probably my favorite aspect of the game. Weapon roster is small but finely tuned, every weapon feels impactful and fun to use.
Having completely different and unique enemies for each of AMID EVIL's 7 episodes is a novel aspect and really sets the game apart. Not every enemy archetype is vastly different and some of them feel a little too similar to each other, but the enemy variety really kept the game feeling fresh until the end.
Not super long but also not very short, I really liked this game's runtime. I played on the secret EVIL difficulty (which is tucked away in the game's Difficulty Select stage) and I thought the challenge was satisfying and balanced, without creating artificial difficulty. And THE BLACK LABYRINTH DLC is AMAZING HOLY COW! A must play.
Overall, I think AMID EVIL doesn't get quite enough recognition when compared to its highly praised boomer shooter brethren, such as DUSK, PRODEUS or CULTIC. Which is a shame, because this game is so great!

Had more fun with Dusk and ULTRAKILL ill admit but Amid Evil was a beautiful and fun game to play. I am bad at puzzles so those parts were pretty difficult for me but at least the enemies are not hard to understand like many other new blood games. Very fun to playthrough though. (played through this right after i completed the fraud update for ULTRAKILL which didn't take as long as it thought for the most part.)

但是一开始的武器手感并不好，到了雷枪才开始有趣起来。
武器与武器之间的射击手感和反馈差距很大，雷枪，冰锥和DLC的手套，镰刀打击感很优秀，其他武器一般。
部分地图设计很好，有的看似复杂但走着走着自然就走对路了，不用思考。
魔法杖是最超模的，在BOSS面前只要开爆发，就能快速输出完BOSS，直接结束。
比较令我惊讶的是，一开始的路线选择竟然就是难度选择。以及这楔形文字是想让我近视加重吗？

Игра красивая, но чертовски скучная и затянутая.
Особо о ней и рассказать то нечего. Саундтрек такой же блеклый, пустой.
Я пробежал её только потому-что тут есть RTX.
Возможно, хотелось бы, чтобы это был не бумер-шутер, а какая-нибудь условная RPG, но имеем что имеем.

Love the art and level design and the weapons are very satisfying. Even on hard the game feels too easy and pretty boring after you do an episode. Going to keep playing it here and there though
В целом - неплохо. За свои деньги по скидке - вообще бомба, хорошая такая игра чисто на почиллить, хотя местами пытается душнить.
Че понравилось:
+ управление вполне отзывчивое, пробовал пока только клавомышь, но в целом без претензий
+ разнообразие пушек практически со старта (первые два леера), что приятно, при том еще и игра достаточно бодро набирает обороты, из-за чего набор пушек не становится каким-то чрезмерным
+ разнообразие врагов в одной комнате на уровне - вполне приятное в плане того, чтобы и малость попробовать в стратегию с тактикой, и перебрать имеющиеся пушки с удовольствием, да и архитектура уровней вполне все это позволяет сделать (кроме буквально пары мест, о чем позже)
+ каждая пушка имеет 2 режима "работы", второй открывается при заполнении спецшкалы и позволяет вытворять нечто если не разносящее все в пух и прах, то уж точно веселое (например, крутящийся аки пропеллер топор или дальние атаки магического меча, которые начинают люто отскакивать от стен)
+ прикольный саунд и в принципе хорошая работа со звуком
Че не понравилось:
- архитектура уровней начиная со второго леера: не понял, зачем нужны всякие микрозакутки с такими же микронаградами внутри - эти награды либо не берешь, либо берешь и получаешь по жеппе чаще всего. Плюсом ко всему - местами еще и непонятно абсолютно, куда идти, не хватает освещения хотя бы
- душные автосохранения: на втором леере умудрился словить его на лоу-хп, после чего следующий десяток перезаходов с этого сохранения превратился в постоянное сдохни или умри - и тут уж приходится дропать уровень целиком и начинать заново
- расположение подбираемых штук, вроде маны или хилок - ей-богу, лучше бы они падали с противников
- чисто мое имхо, но работы с оружием и окружением прям очень не хватает: скипетр молний не бьет молниями по воде, хотя бассейнов тут предостаточно, моргенштерн (?) все еще заряжается маной, хотя ему как будто-бы не хватает каких-то отдельных подбираемых из врагов штук (например, пригвоздил насмерть - забрал с трупа припасы)
- первый босс оказался настолько слабым, что на легком режиме лег с пары ударов и ничего не предпринял против меня. Возможно - только имхо, но ощущается точно как-то так
Тем не менее, рекомендую. Для трайхардеров - хз, но мне пошло в целом, как человеку без опыта в подобных играх.

I'm surprised how underrated this game is. Like everybody know about Ultrakill, Dusk and Faith but I've never heard anything about Amid Evil. I absolutely enjoyed clearing this game (and DLC) on hard difficulty and I can say that this game doesn't give you an exhausting challange that requires thousand of restarts and deaths (maybe on evil difficulty but I didn't really try it). This game lacks movement but I don't find it as a particular downside. The style is amazing, sometimes this game looks really majestic. All in all, I think that it is the most underrated project from New Blood Interactive.

This game is freaking AMAZING! While I have been playing a lot of retro flavored shooters lately, this really does stand among the very best across all aspects in my mind. Absolutely stunning visuals (ESPECIALLY if you play with the suite of ray tracing features enabled) and of course very tight gun play. What truly caught me off guard and pulled me in the most (alongside the visuals at least) was the amazingly visceral melee combat.
Really stunned spiritual successor to Heretic and Hexen, blending fast-pacedQuake-style combat with fantasy weaponry, the art is TOP NOTCH especially if you play it on DX12 .

Местами подбешивает прыгать по платфорам над пропостью и бегать по узким извилистым дорожкам над той же пропостью. А так вполне себе хорошая игра, лучше брать по скидки, оправдает свою цену больше чем на 100% )
A classic shooter throwback, with a cool fantasy aesthetic. Tremendously fun gameplay, amazing level design and variety. If you consider yourself a fan of old school shooters, this one is a guaranteed good time.

Action-packed, beautiful looking game. However, I kinda wish there were more depth with the weapons.
The greatest strength of this game is the level design and graphics. It looks absolutely gorgeous especially with the DLC. Some level moments are highly memorable.
Its weakest aspect, however, is the gunplay. It's fun but it could be much better if there were more unique mechanics added with the weapons. Movement could be much more as well.
I still recommend giving it a try. Just don't expect the gameplay to be as flashy as ultrakill. One thing I could highly recommend is to explore the settings before starting your game. I turned off my HUD and enjoyed the entirety of its glorious graphics.
The game is visually stunning, but gameplay is bland and dull.
First of all, Amid Evil has little to do with Heretic/Hexen except for the fantasy theme.
What it actually reminded me most of all is American McGee's Alice: visually cool, surreal, and mesmerizing, but with weak gunplay, boring puzzles, and irritating platforming. The difference is that Alice delivered a fine story and narrative, unlike Amid Evil.
1) Levels are impressive visually, but pretty dull and not so interesting to explore. There are no cool shortcuts, puzzles, or exploring for that matter. It is mostly linear, and progressing through the level never feels like something more than moving from point A to point B.
2) Enemies are just some abstract stuff or very basic warriors. They lack charisma, personality, or interesting attacks. Their combat behaviors are primitive and unfun, and kicking their asses is boring.
3) Amid Evil is extremely easy. On HARD pickups are just everywhere in great quantities, so no mana/health management is needed, which turns an already easy game into a dull cakewalk.
4) There are traps and platforming. Unfun and irritating.
The last two worlds (out of seven) are becoming more interesting, but that's not enough to grant this game a positive review.
There is really nothing wrong or broken about Amid Evil; it's just uneventful, boring, and never made me feel interested. I feel the main gameplay loop is bland and missing something crucial.

Game was OK. The visuals were pretty awesome, but the combat felt so meh. Felt like you could cheese a lot of the game. I enjoyed the game, but took me ages to finish it. B+
Graphics are truly amazing. The way they mixed the crunchy pixels with beautiful gradients of the lighting is awesome. Every weapon feels different and interesting. The secrets feel amazing to discover. I only wish there was MORE weapon variety, but admittedly I love that they are all still very different. One feat is making the mana for each weapon rare enough for you to horde them for just the right moment.
A solid psychedelic fps closely resembling Quake. This game began the resurgence of the Boomer Shooter.
overall quite fun with some very inventive weapons, but some of the difficulty spikes, particularly with the bosses were insane
i like the art style but the levels are just confusing sometimes and the lore is kind of absent. i wanted to like this game but for the 5h i played i just didn't know what to do and i just killed random guys while going back and forth in random levels. it is not for me so i will not recommend it

Review of Amid Evil
Amid Evil is an exhilarating retro shooter that beautifully blends the aesthetics of Hexen and Heretic while amplifying the experience with modern flair. Players traverse a central hub which leads to various sections (Episodes), each containing 3 to 4 levels plus a challenging boss level. The game features a range of themes, including Gothic designs and machine motifs, adding to its visual diversity.
Each episode features almost entirely different enemies to fight, some of which have spectacular attacks. For example, the Flame Knights unleash a line of flames on the ground in the players' direction after performing a sword dash. I've seen this attack pattern & effect in an ancient Hexen expansion called Portal of Praevus already but not that impressive like in Amid Evil. To be fair in defending the good old Hexen II and its expansion pack, it must be noted that it was released in 1998.
The level design leans towards symmetry, creating a calculated and balanced feel that can be both striking and occasionally monotonous. In particular, the "tightrope levels," where players navigate through narrow beams, can become tedious, especially when using a gamepad. On the plus side, the atmospheric soundtrack complements the visuals perfectly, enhancing the overall immersive experience. The intricate Gothic-style structures are genuinely noteworthy.
Gameplay & Difficulty
The difficulty level is quite manageable on medium with a gamepad. Players will find numerous secrets to uncover, and the achievement tasks are designed with fairness in mind—avoiding the burdensome nature often present in other games. Tasks such as reaching the end of a level with full mana or defeating a certain number of enemies within a time limit can be completed without excessive grinding.
However, one downside is the relatively limited selection of weapons. Despite their appealing designs, you may find yourself tiring of them quickly. Perhaps the rapid access to all of them contributes to this impression. Each weapon does feature a secondary, more powerful mode activated by a temporary Soulboost, enhancing gameplay dynamics. The Celestial Claw, particularly in its active Soulbooster mode, is visually impressive to look at. The Celestial Claw can shoot detailed representations of all the planets from the solar system as projectiles, which is quite impressive. Also noteworthy is the Aeturnum gun, which can produce a black hole in its Soul Mode. This mode looks very spectacular, sucking in all nearby enemies. While I haven't explored the DLC yet, it supposedly adds two additional weapons, promising more variety.
My biggest flaw with this game was the level "The Circles", E3M6 from the Episode Arcane Expans. The Circles is a level that I really think would have benefited from some tweaks and revision. It is still quite entertaining somehow. BUT there are way too many narrow paths to maneuver, water bubble stairs to climb, and especially annoying was getting stuck on uneven ground every few meters while having to fend off a multitude of enemies in those areas. Additionally, the way to the silver key wasn't obvious, so I wandered around aimlessly for 20 minutes. Oddly enough is that many reviewers state that the Episode The Forges is bad - which is NOT true at all. This machinery themed Episode features so many cool ideas and features. I also liked it's nice level structure and design very much.
Controls & Performance
Targeting can be a bit cumbersome with the gamepad, presenting a learning curve for some players. Fortunately, the hardware requirements remain modest; I had no issues running it smoothly on my 2200U with Vega 3.
Overall, you can expect around 15 hours of engaging gameplay from the main campaign, along with the satisfaction of completing most tasks. I confidently recommend Amid Evil, giving it a solid 8.5/10. If you're a fan of retro shooters, this title will certainly deliver a captivating experience.
Fun fact: Did you know that I revised my review more than 10 times until I was happy with it? At this rate, I might as well start charging by the edit!

没有中文，但这字幕的占比可有可无，唯一比较折磨的是迷路。
AMID EVIL - это лучший подарок для вашего друга, если он любитель ретро шутеров в духе Quake, Heretic, DOOM и тому подобных игр. В игре представлено интуитивно понятное оружие, а его дизайн действительно крут. Стоит хотя бы взглянуть на местную ракетницу, выполненную в виде посоха с планетами солнечной системы. Импакт от оружия здесь ощущается отлично будь то секира, которой рубишь всех направо и налево, или кулаки из DLC.
Окружение и архитектура меняются от уровня к уровню. Фоны и цветовая палитра выполнены очень насыщенными красками. Музыкальное сопровождение лично для меня не стало чем то сверхъестественным и запоминающимся, но саунд-дизайн со всеми этими звуками мне понравился и въелся в память надолго.
Боссы не самые сложные, попыток уходит немного. Как мне показалось, я проходил основную игру на сложности Hard, а вот DLC на Medium. Игра поощряет поиск секретов, и хорошо, они здесь не запрятаны слишком сложно.
Забыл сказать: карта в игре, характерная для бумер шутеров, не самая запутанная. Я о том, что в таких играх люди часто теряются и не понимают, куда идти. Здесь это происходит не так часто, но всё же случается. Для человека, не знакомого с жанром, это солидный минус. Некоторые из плюсов игры (например сеттинг или те же ядерные цвета) для кого-то могут оказаться и минусами.
Подводя итог, хочу сказать что игра мне понравилась, и скорее всего, понравится таким же, как я.

Amid Evil is a first-person shooter inspired by Doom and other classic games of the genre. Taking on the role of a lone warrior, you are tasked with traversing multiple portals to fight the corrupted forces of a land brimming with high-fantasy aesthetics and unique monsters. Your arsenal consists of a creative array of magical weapons that cast different forms of spells, using mana as ammunition, each one featuring its own mechanics and practical uses. The stages are beautiful, curious, and downright weird, fully embracing the game’s fantastical tone while rewarding platforming skills with numerous secret rooms. Thankfully, there is no fall damage, allowing you to explore each level freely without worrying about obnoxious and pointless punishment. Although it isn’t quite as fast-paced as some other shooters in the genre, Amid Evil is still a strong addition to their ranks. The DLC feels faster than the main game, but it also features far more unfair encounters. And remember: the azure orb stunlocks enemies.

It is a technically sound and well-made game, but it did not capture my interest despite my love for boomer shooters.
I could see some folks really enjoying AE but I just couldn't get into it after playing through the first few levels; the environments are way too bright and colorful and the enemies I fought were all different variations of knight dudes who had super flashy and colorful Power Ranger armor.
It unfortunately just doesn't have the same dark fantasy vibe that made me fall in love with Heretic and Hexen, where the world felt serious, gritty, and dangerous despite there being magical elements to it. The movement was pretty fluid, but the handful of weapons I tried lacked punch and the hit detection felt kind of weird. Also, despite the basic enemies exploding into giant piles of body parts like Lego men, the blood was extremely light. This is a shame because the environments are so huge they just beg to be painted with gibs to fill in some of the empty space.
I dunno. As I said, it's definitely not a bad game, it's just not for me. If you like bright and fantastical high fantasy aesthetics and boomer shooters you might click with it.
Amid Evil is a fantastic game. Both its visuals, sound effects, soundtrack, gameplay, enemies, stage design, all of it. You definitely feel like a badass champion througout the entire game and you never get bored because every chapter is entirely different whether it's the enemies or the themes. That's one of my favorite aspects of the game. Non of the stages re-use old enemies which is something you dont see in games frequently. You always see new faces and I love each of the enemies' design. The other thing I love the most about the game is its environments. I dont think any other game has this many jaw dropping set pieces. It's all beautiful and you can't stop for a while and admire how beautifully designed these stages are. That's all I wanted to say about the game, the gameplay is great, but i specially wanted to talk about the visuals and the level designs.

Being a fan of both Quake and Heretic/Hexen the spark didn't really jump with this one. It is well designed on one hand but on the other it's also terribly boring. There isn't the grittiness of a Quake nor a dark, fantasy vibe as in Heretic/Hexen either.
It isn't a bad game per se but it just didn't click for me to stay with it maybe due to overexaggerated expectations.
Excellent game. Impossible to play in one sitting. Gets better when you leave it and don't 'have' to play it. Utterly mesmeric and community rooted. Only 4Gb, despite supporting DX11,12. Buy in sale or not, just buy it if you choose fun.
One of the greatest in its genre. Love the look, feel, and sound of Amid Evil.

Boomer shooter muy bueno, me ha recordado a una mezcla entre Quake, Heretic, Hexen, y un poco de PainKiller. Música buena, estilo visual excepcional mezclando pixelart y modelos 3D. Muy recomendado para fans del género, aunque eso si, me ha costado acostumbrarme un poco a su estilo de juego.
