Base campaign is fun but repetitive and light on narrative. The expansion campaign, Chaos Rising, is what really hooked me. Top-notch storytelling. Wish it were longer.

Absoluter Klassiker. Eines der wenigen sehr sehr guten Warhammer 40.000 Spiele. Etwas anders als Teil Eins und seine Addons(ebenfalls ein Klassiker), aber schöne Geschichte und top Athmosphäre.
Für die Linux Freunde: Lieber die Proton Version nehmen, der Ferral Port funktioniert zumindest bei mir nur mit asbach Linux Versionen. Und V-Sync aktivieren (Default off; siehe Internetsuche des Vertrauens) sonst rendert das Spiel 500 bis 2000 FPS.

Be warned, Dawn of War 2 is incompatible with some modern modern hardware.
On my i9-14900KF and RTS 4080 SUPER the game won't launch at all. I've tried setting the game on administrator mode and various other system tweaks to no avail. The best I've gotten in a black screen. This is a VERY common issue found in the forums and there's a host of YouTube videos about this issue. The more modern your hardware, the worse it seems to get.
There's a 3rd party patch that may fix this issue but I'm not downloading some random unknown author's file to get a game to work. Since I've tried everything else, this game is a (virtual) coaster.

В плане сюжета игра мне понравилась куда больше предыдущей части, но вот геймплейная составляющая, на мой взгляд, вышла сомнительной. Сама концепция вместо строительства и развития базы взять под управление несколько отрядов выглядит интересно, но вот реализована она была не идеальна:
- управление местами слишком топорное;
- отряды иногда могут никак не реагировать на противника, находящегося в непосредственной близости.
С другой стороны стоит отметить вариативную прокачку отрядов и возможность оснащать их различным вооружением.
В общем и целом, несмотря на нововведения это всё та же суровая и пафосная стратегия. Огорчило немного отсутствие возможности сделать сохранение во время операции, но, несмотря на это и вышеперечисленные минусы, от прохождения игры я получил большое удовольствие!
My first real introduction to the WH40K universe was DoW, the first game.
I know the Blood Ravens get a lot of hate, being called "Blood Harpies", thieves, and hoarders, and "Loyalist-Traitors" (for possible origin from the Thousand Sons), but they are still my favorite Space Marine Chapter with the Carcharondons being a close second (though I know very little about the latter; I just know about them).
This game does seem a bit hard though when dealing with bosses, like the Orc war boss. I know they are titanic, insanely tough, etc., etc., but it shouldn't be that insane dealing with a squad getting wiped out every minute. Still, it is rewarding and satisfying to finally kill them.
May the Blood Ravens continue to earn glory in the Imperium of Man, and the God-Emperor bestowing his eternal favor on this Chapter.

Dawn of War II is a strong squad-based RTS that holds up well and still looks good. I didn't run into any bugs or pathing issues as I did in the first Dawn of War games. There may be no base building, but the RPG-lite elements with gear management and leveling up to unlock combat abilities offer a nice feeling of depth. The narrative and voice acting feel better here than in the previous games and there's a lot of dialog to immerse you into the story and characters.

You run around wiv big armored humies from da Blood Ravens, smashin bugs, pointy ears, and most importantly… ORKS! Which is good, because Orks love a fight even when we lose.
Da battles are loud, messy, and full of dakka. No boring waitin’ around just run in and start krumpin Exactly how war should be!
Only problem:
Not enough Orks.
Needs more Boyz.
Needs more dakka. 🔫

Wow, The Eldar really had it all right there literally in their grasp. The webway, the Necrons sleeping, the C'tan all gone, the Krorks devolving into orks without having any massive, War in Heaven level battles to fight, living to be over 1,000 years old without ever having to worry about getting sick, and humanity barely in it's infancy. They had all of that going for them, and still somehow they messed it all up. And in the worst possible way too.
All they had to do was NOT throw Diddy Parties but they just couldn't resist. And for the Drukhari to double down on the Diddy Parties and baby oil even after giving birth to Slaanesh and having She Who Thirsts after their very souls... well that's truly telling of how much they love their Diddy Parties.

Different from the first one, but fantastic on its own right. One of the expansions even looked back to the first one and created an interesting mix. If you like Warhammer, it's a must play.

Ok. So this title is pretty different to the first game, and personally I think that this is the better game overall. Yes the scope is smaller, but that allows a Wood League RTS-player to keep up with what is happening. Plus you cannot just build a deathball like in the first game.
The game isn't flawless though and some of the missions are really annoying with way too tough bosses and you having to keep up with tons of things happening at once. But overall I liked the game.
Watch me beat the entire Imperium military...ready? Use your starships to deploy ordnance on the planet.

Yet, no, this is Grimdarkland, so we need to send small units of barely controllable "superhumans" to fail to follow basic commands and get themselves killed by forces that, canonically, should be slaughtered by just one of these guys in his underwear.
Players, get ready to be drowned in meaningless, vapid "progression" in the form of perks that slightly make your "superhumans" less incompetent on the battlefield and collect wargear that has more lore flavour than combat utility.
My brother in Guilliman, who designed the multiplayer!? It couldn't be more garbage if they tried. 1d4chan memes should not accurately describe the nightmare circlejerk of farting around control nodes but, here we are...

This is a great game and reminds me of Warcraft 3's gameplay. Its a mix of traditional RTS elements with some Hero/Moba elements with their abilities. The story is fun and orcs are the best.

Just an all around fun game.
The game gives an RTS feel and also stays as close as possible to tabletop gaming. The absence of economy management is not missed here because of the depth of strategy and tactics that need to be employed to win the campaigns.

I don't normally weigh in, but seeing the mixed reviews on this game is prompting me to jump in. DoW II is such a breath of fresh air, if you're expecting a standard 4x type rts you're going to be disappointed. If you come in expecting an rpg flavored squad based (like company of heroes) type game, you're going to really enjoy it. I love the leveling up, gear upgrades, squad selection before missions, the whole game just scratches an itch I never knew I had. One of my top 5 games, for sure. Then you add in the co-op, and you got yourself a great way to spend a few bucks and familiarize yourself with the thieving magpies, er, blood ravens.
经典就是对我老式电脑不太友好，每二十分钟闪退一下好歹至少通关了，快点公布战锤4价格吧。。。。

I have over 100 hours in DoW I, and I've finally got around to playing DoW II.
Put simply, almost every part of this game is a direct downgrade. I can understand some people preferring the more centralized/squad based RTS games, but to be this positively received to this day baffles me. From base building to resource management, from the modding scene to the content offering, everything is a direct downgrade.
Side note and unrelated, I can only hear EaW TIE fighter pilots whenever Cyrus talks.

They've made the units retarded, they only follow orders the way they should like 70% of the time, the rest of the 30% they'll just stand where they are doing nothing.

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II – Anniversary Edition was surprisingly bold when it first released — and that boldness is exactly what makes it good.
When it launched, many fans were expecting something closer to Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War – Anniversary Edition: base-building, large-scale armies, traditional RTS structure. Instead, Dawn of War II pivoted hard. Smaller squads. No classic base construction. Tactical, cover-based combat with RPG-style progression.
At first, that shift pushed part of the fanbase away. It felt different — almost like a different genre layered onto Warhammer 40K. But in hindsight, that difference is what gives it its identity.
The squad-focused gameplay forces you to care about individual units. Positioning, ability timing, and wargear customization matter more than mass production. The campaign especially shines because of its RPG elements and loot progression. It feels more personal, more tactical.
Ironically, the willingness to innovate is what helped it stand apart. You could argue that when later entries leaned too safely toward earlier formulas without offering something meaningfully new, the reception wasn’t as strong. Dawn of War II, for better or worse, had a clear vision.
And the fact that it received multiple expansions — including substantial additional campaigns — suggests that the formula resonated strongly enough to sustain continued support.
It’s not Dawn of War I, and it doesn’t try to be. That’s the point.
If you’re open to a more tactical, squad-driven Warhammer 40K experience with RPG elements layered into RTS combat, this is absolutely worth playing. It may have divided opinions at first, but over time, it’s proven itself as a distinctive and worthwhile entry in the series.

Just buy DOW 1 unless you are partial to more hero and squad oriented RTS games.
I came into this game with expectations of DOW 1 which did effect my enjoyment of the game even as I tried to adjust expectations, since it switches from an army oriented RTS to focusing on heroes and squad tactics which became tedious to micromanage as it relies on you using abilities to get through encounters. I cant even label this as a possible upside for helping tell a more linear story since the first campaign in DOW 1 accomplished that and still had a focus on controlling an army.
The flow of the gameplay simply feels lackluster, no army to control and barley any depth I've seen from other RTS games provide such as the scale of forces you command, building up defenses or settlements, or hit chance. The only depth being that your heroes level up to tank more damage and/or do more damage.
Get this on sale if your interested in small tactical rts otherwise just get DOW 1 or any other RTS.

Если вас привлек тактический потенциал игры то лучше купите Baldurs' gate 3, там тактические фишки игры не развод, в отличие от этой

Paзрабы дayны, так ничего и не исправили в Anniversary! По факту это тупо Chaos Rising чтобы состричь денег с гоев.
+ Есть русская озвучка
+ Много шмоток, иногда выходят прикольные билды
+ Это Ваха
- До сих пор ужасное управление
- Юниты тупят, не слушаются приказов, стоят на месте
- Раскликивать как в варчике или любой мобе не получится, надо выбрать юнита и подождать пару секунд чтобы он начал двигаться
- Анимацию нельзя отменить, поэтому если твой дебик решил повыебываться и красиво добить - он впитает весь урон от врагов которые не стоят афк
- Гранаты кидаются через раз или вообще не кидаются
- У врагов все нормально работает, поэтому если тебя преследуют, то до конца
- На макс сложности это вызывает дикое жжение в жеппе, т.к. приходится по чуть чуть убивать врагов, хилиться и потом идти дальше
- Так же на макс сложности стрелки вообще не попадают по врагам, особенно если те в укрытии

Dawn of War 2 was one of my favorite games in 2010s. Sadly peak was first release of second game. Now this is advertised as anniversary edition, but i never could have imagined that Steam's TOS allows false advertisiment. I had all three parts of DoW2 but now they upgrade the first one as 3in1 but it got only first and second parts or expansions. 0 effort was put in this ANNIVERSARY EDITION release and it shows how much devs care about essence of this IP. I really hope that DoW4 will be more taken care of and that Henry Cavill will succeed with his show, because i am afraid that current execs will do to this franchise to that they did to Star Wars or Star Trek. And it is slowly happening, btw. Female Custodian.... ://////

Seventeen years later, I finally finished Dawn of War II. How long will the Chaos Rising Campaign take? We shall see, but the first mission was fun. As a starcraft II guru, the units are painfully slow and the pathing is annoying. You miss some of the individual unit control and responsive movement of starcraft. Dawn of War II is more ability heavy though, and in that area it mostly nails the feeling. Bigger than you expect explosions and gore result in moments that are sure to put a smile on your face.
This game was always intriguing to me, a weird rts/arpg hybrid set in the 40k universe. 40k carries a lot of the weight here, the sound effects of the bolters are addictive.
Had to replace the profiler.dll file to get the game to launch in 2026 but it made for a good weekend.
This game is great. I love this game a lot. Sound track is good. Gameplay is great. Memories. Do they make'em like this anymore? Likely not. It's hard to play any other Warhammer game after playing these classics. I recommend this game 100%.

the game is great but it is very different from the first dawn of war. they replace base building with company of heroes style capture points to be able to upgrade your troops and create more. the game focuses more on powerful squads and leaders instead of amassing tons of units. you feel this a lot more in the campaign and it is fun and shows how strong space marines are by using just a small squad to win battles. the brutal glory kill animations are back and look great the vehicles are actually huge which was one thing i didnt like about dawn of war 1. in the first game the vehicles looked and felt like toys but in this game they are very big and menacing. very rewarding to outplay enemies with well placed flanks or placement of abilities like grenades or a hero action. combat is brutal and fast paced.
now one down side is the lack of cutscenes and story telling in the campaign makes the story feel not as great as the first dawn of war they focus more instead on squad leaders talking to each other in the top left of the home base screen after a mission. kinda takes away from the story imo. the cut scenes and voice acting in the first game made the story feel a lot more grand and fun to engage with. hopefully they bring that back for dawn of war 4. overall really great game especially the multiplayer modes.
