1993 LEWIS & CLARK COUNTY, MONTANA, US Ten years ago, teenager Nicole and her mother left the family hotel after discovering her father Leonard's affair with, and pregnancy of Rachel, a girl her own age who eventually committed suicide. Now that both of her parents have passed, Nicole hopes to fulfill her mother’s last will to sell the hotel and make amends to Rachel's relatives. With the will and determination to put that chapter behind her, she returns to the hotel with the family’s lawyer to audit the decaying structure. As the weather unexpectedly turns for the worst, Nicole has no way to leave the large mountain lodge, and finds support in Irving, a young FEMA agent, using one of the first radio telephones ever built. With his help, Nicole starts to investigate a mystery far deeper than what people in the valley thought. A story of love and death, where melancholy and nostalgia melt into a thrilling ghost tale.

spooky ~4-hour walking sim. I love horror but not in the form of 1st-person video games, unless it's all mood and atmosphere and I can explore and puzzle (if applicable) in peace, no monsters chasing, batteries running out or other nonsense. this is like that, sans puzzles. there's constant chatter on the phone, a'la firewatch but not nearly as good. the flirting was annoying, even the lady thought it was too much, we said shut the ♥♥♥♥ up at the same time.

the game starts with a grim fandango moment. I remember waiting for a while after manny stopped moving because I thought it was still a cutscene. this is similar, top-down view, umbrella swaying, but turns out you can move. only forward at a snail's pace, can't press esc or anything. gameplay. then you're in a hotel 10 years after leaving back in the 80s, ready to sell it at your dearly departed mother's insistence due to bad memories (the clue's in the name). it's winter and there's an overlook in the hotel (the save file is called overlook as well) but no jack nicholson in sight now that daddy dearest bit the dust.

teeny-tiny dot in the middle of the screen as crosshair/cursor, not customizable. it names many things but only a few can be examined, mostly books, cigarettes and matches. can't zoom in or bring up an easier-to-read version of letters and such. [b]non-rebindable controls[/b], always lazy. there's an invert y-axis toggle and turn sensitivity slider, maxed out the latter, still wasn't great.

wasd/arrows to [b]move incredibly slooooowly[/b], shift to 'run', except even I can jog faster, that should've been the walking speed. [b]no toggle, have to sit on shift for hours.[/b] m is map and [b]a to-do list that's often empty until you walk around aimlessly to trigger stuff[/b] and esc doesn't close it. q/e changes floors there, space and mouse wheel click zooms if you're just looking around (the wheel itself doesn't), lmb interacts, rmb puts down or pockets objects. 1-2-3 for dynamo (flashlight), polaroid (in lieu of a flashlight) and microphone (for ghost-hunting), they're all barely used.

no inventory to manage but they committed an adventure game crime: [b]items can only be picked up once there's a need for them, resulting in tedious backtracking[/b]. god forbid you'd have to carry a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ screwdriver around for a couple days. oh, and [b]mouse wheel and only that scrolls between meaningless but timed dialog options, which they fail to mention anywhere[/b].

while [b]the game's completely linear, the hotel's a huge ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ maze[/b], very disorienting initially. not much point in exploring but [b]the game only saves at the end of each day[/b], totally unacceptable. further insults to injury: [b]no chapter select after completion, and while there are 2 endings and even a checkpoint before the final decision, the save gets wiped after the credits[/b]. ♥♥♥♥ you. I did have a backup from the last session, penultimate day, wasn't gonna redo all that, but the guides secion on steam has a full collection. alternatively, youtube. or just don't bother, both endings are ♥♥♥♥. and a fun fact: the devs kept flip-flopping between achievements, even they couldn't decide which is the 'real' one. at some point it was given either way. such a well-thoght-out experience.

[b]a developer not respecting the player's time, be it due to laziness or incompetence, isn't worth supporting.[/b] right after I got the key from my room, the phone on the desk failed to trigger, so I spent half an hour walking around, looking for 'that phone-thing', then I really had to quit, so looked it up to finally end the day after a bunch of unskippable dialog. later on there's a microwave, gotta wait in real-time until the food warms up, then even later [b]the map gets taken away with the to-do list and there's no indication on what needs to be done at all[/b]. ♥♥♥♥ you some more.

settings are a mixed bag but available anytime. brightness slider, separate volumes, languages, subtitle toggle (not customizable), resolutions, windowed mode, vsync toggle, lazy low/medium/high/epic quality setting, nothing else for graphics. [b]no fov slider or head bob toggle[/b], so people prone to motion sickness, get your barf bags. fov can be changed and depth of field disabled in the unreal .ini files, small consolation.

a tiny positive besides the c64s, 1541s, a quickshot joystick and a datasette: resolutions also show aspect ratio. I can't play everything on native resolution due to old hardware but don't mind ugly textures or lower res. what I do mind is trying 15 options until I find a 16:9 one because I can't be ♥♥♥♥♥♥ to math it out or memorize them. what I mind even more is when [b]changing resolution ♥♥♥♥♥ the game up[/b]. in this case the cursor was nowhere near the actual selection anymore, had to restart the game, sit through [b]a ton of unskippable logos and disclaimers (with the usual spoilers)[/b], but the issue got fixed and I didn't have to re-do the umbrella nonsense either.

the handling of the subject matter will always be divisive, but the way it's presented (writing, story) leaves a lot to be desired, even if it's about things that happened in the 80s while set in the 90s. different times. looks and sounds fine, controls, runs and works like ♥♥♥♥, and overall [b]absolutely can't be recommended[/b]. not giving more money to these clowns, but I'd wager they learned nothing and the upcoming sequel, currently tied up in some legal ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, won't be any better.

Просто одразу кажу: мені немає, що похвалити в цій грі. Взагалі. Це нудна підліткова версія "Сяйва", тільки штибу "уууу, страшно-страшно, готель з привидами". Хоча ні, почекайте, ще технічний бік гри, що запускається виключно в маленькому вікні й змушує примружитись, а краще взагалі заплющити очі й вимкнути цю хрінь.
Себто навіть поза абсолютно передбачуваним сюжетом з величезними дірами в неї нудно та неприємно грати, поза тим, що це ще й гра, що активно називає педофілію "справжнім коханням", ахах. Реально фу, це мєрзость, навіть думати більше про неї не хочу, піду очі промию.

This review is based on my opinion & experience.

I really wanted to like and enjoy this game, and it does have some strong points. The athosphere is quite unsettling, and the sounds are 100% the highlight. The creepy noises, actually managed to make me feel paranoid, creeped out and almost like i was being watched in real life.

Sadly that's all the good i can say about this game.

The dialogue is not that great. It often feels poorly written, overly long and just dragged to the point where you are at the next objective just listening to nonsense. Like 95% of the game is just talking to Irving, not alot of opportunities to just expore the game without some creep in your ears.

What i hate the most, is how the theme of the game was handled. It didn't feel like the subject matter was taken serious, almost like it was ''okay'' in a way.

Overall, while the athosphere and sounds are good, it just isn't enough to carry a game with such weak dialogues and questionable storytelling.

The Suicide of Rachel Foster - атмосферная игра с элементами психологического триллера. Сюжет нам подаётся через исследование локаций и редкие диалоги по рации.
Записки для русских - не переведены, часть лора потеряна. Есть много предметов для осмотра, по типу таблеток, губок, ящиков, но всё это зачем? Они абсолютно никак не влияют на игру.
Игра выделяется супер мрачной атмосферой, красивой графикой и звуковым сопровождением, которое пробирает до мурашек, особенно когда тебе кто-то шепчет на ушко....
Геймплей довольно линейный. Большую часть времени вы просто ходите по отелю, открываете двери и собираете обрывки истории. Экшена или сложных головоломок здесь нет - есть одна нескончаемая тревога.

Почему я в начале сказала про "Cияние"? Сама атмосфера и загадочность этого отеля так и кричит, что здесь творится зло, но какое....

Для ачивкодрочеров советую либо сразу смотреть соответствующие руководства, либо выкачивать сохранения перед каждым днём.(если что, все сохранения уже доступны в тех же руководствах, поэтому если завалите последнюю ачивку - ничего страшного:) )

мне эта игра очень сильно напомнила witness своей атмосферой и ощущением мистики
а по итогу так же раскрывается сюжет необыкновенным образом
но в witness правда имеется нотка неожиданности, есть большее понимание сюжета, и развязка правда вводит в шок
в этой игре есть развязка, но, извините ща спойлеры, брата рейчел не было ни в одном сюжете, и речь о существовании брата вообще не велось
может быть в каких то документах был намек, но честно сомневаюсь что было хоть что то приблизительное
понимаю почему игра имеет смешанные отзывы, многих я думаю надоело брождение по отелю, может быть в целом хорошо выглядящим, но по атмосфере и конечно динамики witness будет гораздо лучше
интересный сюжет, но имеющий некоторые недосказанности
прошел на сто процентов, и в целом сценарный шок был
было интересно узнавать персонажей и даже радоваться их романтике
но я бы прошел witness еще раз

[spoiler]This game had so much potential to be impactful, powerful and it falls flat.
It does not handle the serious subject matter of the grooming and sexual assault of a minor appropriately. No one in the story seems to be able to condemn Leonard's disgusting actions. Even Irving, Rachel's own brother, refers to her grooming as "love". It is so tone deaf to what happened to Rachel, and not to mention the ableism and infantilization just because she's dyslexic.
This could've genuinely been a really good story of an adult realising and discovering the disgusting secret of their parents and what they did to an innocent child.

I was also forced to redo Day 9 after a bug happened once I was done cleaning the rug.[/spoiler]

i’m gonna be real. This game is one of those games that proves people don’t even understand what they’re playing anymore.

This game is about story. it’s about emotion. it’s about atmosphere. the hotel .the silence .the voice acting . everything pulls you in. i felt connected the whole time. it’s not some action horror game. it’s slow .heavy. and it actually makes you feel something. that’s rare.

and yeah. let’s talk about the .controversy because people love crying about it. the game talks about something dark involving an underage girl. okay but it’s just a story. you’re not playing as some creep. you’re not doing anything disgusting. you’re uncovering a past. there’s no weird scenes. no messed up gameplay . nothing like that. it’s literally narrative.

but somehow people lose their minds over a fictional story while living in a real world full of the same ugly things they pretend don’t exist. funny how that works. people act outraged here but stay real quiet outside of a video game. the hypocrisy is insane.

if you don’t like it just refund it and move on. no one is forcing you to play it. but acting like this game is some evil thing just makes you look clueless.

And yeah i had a small bug with the sink when washing the shirt and had to restart the day took some time . but let’s be serious, that’s nothing. it didn’t ruin anything for me. the experience is still strong.

this game is art. simple as that. and as an artist. i know how much work goes into something like this. it deserves appreciation 10/10

The Suicide of Rachel Foster è uno di quei giochi che partono con un’idea potentissima… e poi non riescono a sostenerla.

Il titolo colpisce subito. Promette una storia forte, disturbante, emotivamente pesante. E in parte riesce anche a creare aspettativa, soprattutto grazie all’ambientazione: un hotel isolato tra le montagne, immerso nella neve, con un’atmosfera che richiama chiaramente The Shining. Per chi ama questo tipo di immaginario, è sicuramente un punto a favore.

Il problema è che l’atmosfera, da sola, non basta.

Per un gioco narrativo, qui la storia fatica a decollare. I primi giorni scorrono lenti, quasi come un lungo tutorial: si esplora, si ascolta, si interagisce, ma senza una reale evoluzione narrativa. La sensazione è quella di aspettare qualcosa che tarda ad arrivare.

E quando finalmente arriva… è tutto troppo concentrato.

La trama accelera improvvisamente verso la fine, condensando eventi e rivelazioni in modo poco equilibrato. Questo spezza il ritmo e rende difficile dare il giusto peso emotivo a ciò che accade.

Anche i personaggi faticano a lasciare il segno. Nonostante le tematiche trattate siano delicate e complesse, il gioco non riesce a svilupparle con la profondità necessaria. Le dinamiche tra i personaggi risultano spesso poco chiare o poco approfondite, e questo finisce per indebolire l’intera esperienza.

A questo si aggiunge un altro problema: alcune meccaniche di gioco sembrano introdotte senza una vera funzione. Strumenti che dovrebbero arricchire l’esperienza vengono utilizzati una volta o in modo molto limitato, senza un reale impatto sulla narrativa o sul gameplay. Questo crea una sensazione di incoerenza, come se alcune idee fossero abbozzate ma mai davvero sviluppate.

Il risultato è un’esperienza che alterna buone intuizioni a scelte poco coerenti.

Ed è un peccato, perché il potenziale c’era tutto. L’ambientazione funziona, l’atmosfera è curata, e l’idea di base è interessante. Ma senza una scrittura solida e una direzione più chiara, tutto questo rimane in superficie.

The Suicide of Rachel Foster non è un brutto gioco in senso tecnico. È un gioco che aveva le basi per essere qualcosa di forte… ma non riesce mai davvero a diventarlo.

Pro:

- Atmosfera riuscita, con forti richiami a The Shining
- Ambientazione suggestiva e coerente
- Concept iniziale interessante

Contro:

- Narrazione lenta e poco incisiva nella prima metà
- Ritmo sbilanciato, con eventi troppo concentrati verso la fine
- Personaggi poco sviluppati rispetto ai temi trattati
- Meccaniche introdotte ma poco sfruttate

This game will make you feel uncomfortable, creeped out and sad.

It covers a terrible event in time and shows you the different feelings involved from all parties, [spoiler] but mostly the unresolved issues of grief that Irving and Nicole have struggled with. [/spoiler]

I don't personally think it glorifies or is pro-pedo, but I can see why people might think it, if they only focus on how the father sees it. It's easy for us on the outside to say how disgusting and wrong it is, but it's hard to convey the emotional turmoil that those involved would be subject to, but the game tries.

For me it was ultimately is a story of two people [spoiler] Rachel and her child [/spoiler] paying the ultimate price for something that wasn't their fault.

The game is not perfect with it's story telling and sometimes clumsy mechanics. There was a 'game breaking' bug I came across by accidentally clicking the mouse while (day 4 I think?) was starting and had to restart the chapter, more annoying than a massive issue as you don't have to restart the whole story.

In the end it is essentially just a walking sim with a sad story which I picked this up for under 2 quid, so for that it was worth my time.

This is not meant to be a game that makes you feel good. I think that is the main reason for so many negative reviews. If you come into this game expecting a happy story and a good mystery you will only get one of those. This is a game about heavy topics and it handles them tactfully. This game is meant to make you uncomfortable and make you think and it does both of those things well IF the player loses the expectation of a feel good ending. It doesn't treat disability, mental health, grief, or p**dophila as a laughing point. It doesn't navigate around the issues and it doesn't romanticize them. It shows the different thoughts people affected by these topics can have and it does it well. All in all, It is a heavy game that covers heavy topics in a well written manner.

The game romantacizes an exploitative pedophilic relationship, bullying, and suicide. There are ways to address these topics with a lot more thought and sensitivity. I would not recommend it at all -- some engaging voice acting and sound design cannot make up for an incredibly ham-fisted attempt at Daddy Romeo and teenage Juliet. It goes from mildly interesting to incredibly gross. Very disappointed.

sorry for the rambling i talk in circles.

the games okay, the story can be slow if you play it that way but its pretty straight forward if you listen to what they're talking about and look at your todo list you can complete fast. its uncomfortable topic with Nichole's dad and Rachel i don't think its glorifying the pedophilic relationship imo, it didn't really talk about it or address it, it was quite brief. i hate Nichole's father I'm glad this story is fiction but there are real life stories like this and its unfortunately. the game is a walking sim and the story is okay the ending kind of sucks but i don't know how i would handle something like that its awful what happened all around. i was hoping for more closure. its okay not great not bad buy it on sale unless you like these types of games like i do. very neat.

Während man das verlassene Hotel erkundet, kommen nach und nach dunkle Geheimnisse aus der Vergangenheit ans Licht.

🎮 Gameplay:
Minimalistisch, aber passend zum Konzept. Im Kern handelt es sich um einen klassischen Walking Simulator: Man erkundet das große Hotel, sucht Hinweise, löst kleinere Rätsel und führt Gespräche über ein Funkgerät. Das Gameplay bleibt bewusst simpel und stellt die Geschichte klar in den Mittelpunkt. Rätsel sind leicht und dienen hauptsächlich dazu, neue Bereiche freizuschalten oder die Handlung voranzutreiben. Spielerisch anspruchsvoll ist das Ganze nicht, doch die Erkundung des Hotels sorgt für eine konstant spannende Grundstimmung.

🎬 Story & Charaktere:
Dunkel, kontrovers und emotional aufgeladen. Die Handlung dreht sich um die Vergangenheit von Nicoles Familie und den mysteriösen Tod von Rachel Foster. I've played through this game twice and I enjoyed it both times.

Es ist zwar ein relativ kurzes Spiel (ich war in etwas mehr als 3 Stunden durch) aber atmosphärisch dicht. Man muss sich allerdings auch bewusst in die Geschichte hineinversetzen, um diese Dichte zu spüren.

Technisch gabs nicht groß auszusetzen, deutsch war halt nur als Untertitel verfügbar und ich hatte einige Grafikglitches (bei Bewegung wurden obere und untere Bildhälfte verzögert aktualisiert), aber vermutlich hatte ich nur die Grafikeinstellungen zu hoch für meine Grafikkarte. Es ist im Endeffekt ein "Walking Simulator", der von der Immersion lebt, die der Spieler bereit ist zuzulassen.

Gameplay - Best way i can describe it is sluggish, i had to restart some days due to the game glitching and not letting me do anything which got annoying. The dialogue constantly lagged which resulted in characters talking over each other and me missing some. It's so hard to actually know where to go to the point that when i got to about day 4 i pulled up a guide.
Story! oh boy - Disgusting, it frames the 16 year old as a mastermind against the 50 odd year old man who she was groomed and assaulted by at first. Then it tries to frame them as some sort of weird star crossed lovers who are just caged by the society around them. Heres something for the writer to think about, it's still pedophilia! no matter how you decide to dress it up. Rachel is the victim, she was groomed. Then it decides to throw in irving as a twist villian who was actually Rachels brother, i actually thought this was interesting at first, i thought maybe he would finally be the one to call out Leonard on, you know, being a pedo. But no, he also seems to condone their relationship! hooray! turns out Nicoles mother killed rachel, why??? oh wait no, it's because in the writers eyes, leonard can do no wrong and RACHEL is the one tearing the family apart. Also let's not forget the sprinkle of pro life messaging we get 'I was in the car with rachels dead body and her dead baby' (probably not exact but thats the jist of it).

TLDR: Do not bother, do not waste your money or more importantly, your time. This game is a groomer apologists paradise.

would I recommend this...yes and no. I love a spooky mystery storyline games. what remains of Edith finch being at the top of my list.
I did really like parts of this game. the map was intricate and inventive. but other parts like the story felt like of mix-up of several plot lines that didn't always match up well with each other or make sense at the time or even at the end. It left you without a clear answer on several things in the end...like is her dad still a creep?
But it was spooky and full of suspense and mystery.
It does have some bugs, the screen froze twice with the dialog continuing and once it just cut to dark completely, to fix this I had to exit and continue back in. this would caused me to have to restart that day from scratch.
All in all it was not a bad game but could have been better.

Мистично-загадочная ходьба по отелю.
Напомнило сияние и Firewatch.
Если играть порционно , то не сильно наскучивает , надоедает в начале медленно ходить и слава богу на геймпаде повреждён гироскоп и вынужден был продолжить на клаве , и так я узнал, что в игре есть бег. А ещё при запуске игры, есть глупый спойлер , что есть отголоски педофилии , [spoiler] и есть погибшая девочка... [/spoiler] ага, да...ясно по сути всё. Не знаю, почему многие пишут , что порой долгая и нудная (я ходил смотрел картины с интерьром ) и сюжет психодел...не слушайте ,покупайте и играйте, развязка не плохая, всё как и должно быть в таком жанре. Атмосфера бывает начинает нагнетать и с 6 дня, зарождается мысль, что вы здесь не одиноки.

Ho giocato a questo gioco con molta tensione. Il fatto di trovarmi da solo in questo hotel mi ha fatto sentire come in una partita creativa di Minecraft: sempre in allerta e con la sensazione che qualcuno mi stesse osservando. Non posso negare che la trama sia molto bella e intricata. Alcune tematiche, come quella della pedofilia, non credo siano state trattate come avrebbero dovuto, ma niente è perfetto. Nonostante questo, mi sento comunque di consigliarlo se avete voglia di immergervi in una storia pragmatica e misteriosa.

A suspenseful story that left me first full of terror of something supernatural to come out and get me, and then leaving me with realistic disgust at what is being revealed to me. This Game has many twists and turns and I was on the edge of my seat for most of it,

On the con side, it does have to be said this game in some ways tries to get you to feel bad for the dad who cheated on his loving wife with a 16 year old and that somehow the protagonist was the bad person for feeling jealous. Being said a game like this is a different kind of horror, it's supposed to disgust, on top of building suspense which it accomplishes well. And I think it's silly that people are leaving bad reviews because they dislike the story.

With that said, I am actually very close to downvoting because the game pretty often would glitch into a black screen, meaning I'd have to restart that whole day, which was very annoying.

3/10 would not play again.

There are so many leaps in logic and feels pro pedophillia with how things are portrayed.
The whole story is literally the consequences of grooming.
Then we have the ending, which amounts to Kill yourself or become crazy.

Fena değil. Firewatch'ı sevdiyseniz onunla Gone Home oyununun ortaya karışık versiyonu gibi. Bir kaç yerde ne yapacağınız kesin değil o kafa karıştırıyor.

Hikaye konusunda diyeceğim şu ki hikaye iğrenç bir hikayeyi anlatıyor. Oyun bazı şeyleri göze sokmadan anlatmaya çalışmış. Etraftaki eşyaları incelediğinizde ana karakterin babasının otelde neler düşündüğünü anlayabiliyorsunuz. Ana karakter etrafta bir şeyler buldukça sadece daha da netleşiyor bence. Sonu üzücüydü ve bence ana karakterin sonunu tuhaf bağlamışlar. Sırf bitirmek için öyle bir son yazılmış gibi geldi.

Spoilerlı konuşayım bu noktadan sonra:

[spoiler]İlk olarak daha başından babanın bir zamanlar uzay bilim derken birden bire ruhlarla iletişim kurma kitaplarına geçmesinden babanın kafanın gidik olduğu belli. Zaten daha başından babanın anneyi aldattığını, aldattığı kişinin öldüğünü ve ölmeden önce de hamile olduğunu anlıyoruz. Aynı zamanda ana karakterin annesinin de intihar ettiğini ve babanın ölümü sonrası aile otelini satması gerektiğini söylediğini öğreniyoruz. Biraz daha otelde dolaşınca babanın pedofili olduğunu anlamak da zor olmuyor ve kasabanın neden yasak aşkının ölmesine bu kadar takıldığı da.[/spoiler]

[spoiler]Oyunun sonuna doğru öğreniyoruz ki babanın yasak aşkı kız intihar etmemiş ve ana karakterin annesi tarafından öldürülmüş. Sorunum oyunun yapımcıları bunu cidden düşünerek mi bu sona getirdi yoksa tamamen karakterlerin kendi kötü niyetimi bunu anlamak zor. Ama sırf kızın annesi, 16 yaşında kocasının hamile bıraktığı kızı öldürdü diye, kızın babasının pedofili olduğu gerçeğinden biraz sapıldığını hissettim. Zaten ana karakterin telsiz arkadaşı Irwing'in bu noktada niyeti ortaya çıktı. Irwing'i anlamak daha zordu benim için.[/spoiler]

[spoiler]Irwing, ölen Rachel'ın küçük erkek kardeşi ve anladığım kadarıyla sırf Nicole'ün babası Rachel'ı sevdi diye ona iyi niyetli bakıyor ve babanın pedofili aşkını savunuyor. Ayrıca Nicole'ü suçlayarak tamamen suçsuz birini de işin içine çekiyor. Son sahneye doğru Nicole'ün dedikleri doğruydu, bu nedenle aslında Nicole'ün intiharı manasız geliyor sonda bana. Nicole son ana kadar mantıklı biriydi. Nasıl sırf Irwing intihar etti diye intihar eder?[/spoiler]

[spoiler]Bir de tam anlamadığım tek kısım bunca zaman Irwing, Nicole ile otelde mi kalıyordu? Tam söylenmese de Nicole'ün sonda otelden ayrılıp ayrılmadığını sorduğu an bunca zaman otelde olduğu hissine kapıldım ki bu aslında Nicole'ün hayalet aleti ile aldığı sesleri, arkasından kapanan açılan kapıları, hayalet avcılarının başına gelen işleri falan açıklıyor. Muhtemelen buzlukta kitli kaldığında kapıyı da Irwing açtı diye düşündürttü bana.[/spoiler]

[spoiler]Son olarak Irwing'in ruhsal değişimi de biraz ani gelişti bana göre. Sonda o düşüncelere sahip birinin o ana kadar takındığı o kişiliğe sahip olması zor geliyor. Nicole'e çıkma teklifi etmesi sahte hissettirmedi, gerçi geri dönüp baktığımda ses Irwing'ten geliyordu ve Nicole sesin peşine düşmüştü dersek ilgisini dağıtmak için yapıyordu denebilir. Yine de dediğim gibi sahte hissettirmedi bana tepkileri.[/spoiler]

The gameplay and the story were horrible in my opinion. Just so boring because you do like one thing and then the day moves on but it's long because your character walks at the speed of a damn snail. You can't even run. Everything is spoon fed to you, the "scares" were boring, and the investigating was abysmal. It didn't really feel like investigation. One thing that really annoyed me was that one of the first objectives is to check the 2nd floor and you go through, notice like 2 or 3 things, and you can only enter 1 room that does/has nothing in it for you to really look at. All you do is acknowledge the damage, I think the sealed door is up here, and then that's the end of it?? Nothing really happens and that's pretty much how all the days go. You do like one thing and then it's the next day.

The story was what I hated the most though. You literally can't convince that it was true love and that it was a tragic story. When really it was just about a married creep who SA a girl who is mentally disabled. The whole story is just felt like it was trying to defend pedophilia/grooming, it left a bad taste in my mouth because it was 100% trying to say that "age is just a number" and that grooming is okay.

I don't know if they meant for it, but Rachel's room looking like it could be for a 5 year old rather than a 16 year old just made it 100 times worse. You're telling me that she could properly consent? No ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ way she could.

This game was just wretched all around.

Первое, что хотел бы отметить, это то, что по совету из обзора я на протяжении всей игры искал - гениальную обыгровку бабочки с обложки. Понял я про что он только после завершения игры, всматриваясь в обложку. Да, прикольная деталь, +реп имеется

Также из очевидных плюсов и приколов - это дизайн отеля (Внешний вид, не построение карты) и атмосфера.
6ляя... я чуть не eбнулся, пока ходил с микрофоном по второму этажу. В целом +- в эти дни как раз и настигает пик атмосферы 10/10, иногда даже жёстко отдавало вайбами Firewatch

Но минусы.....

Во-первых сюжет. Игра так и не определилась про что она. Паранормальщина, сталкинг или трукрайм. [spoiler]Вот вроде просто РКН девки, и последующий спектакль ее брата, но для чего кассеты с призраками, закрывающиеся двери, шепоты и тд?[/spoiler] +невероятно слитая концовка и бесящий гг женщина +полуомежка на другом проводе [spoiler]с резким поворотом на 180 в конце игры[/spoiler]

Во-вторых баги. В самом конце 9 дня, в одной катсцене до финала, я тупо ловлю черный экран. Итог - перезапуск и прохождение ВСЕГО дня заново. А весь день итак состоит из финальных разговоров, которые нельзя скипнуть.

Также ужасный левел дизайн. Сам отель выглядит хорошо, но эти коридоры и комнаты... Пытаться ориентироваться в этом полный мазохизм.
Кстати если прийти в какое-то ни было сюжетное место, то ничего не случится, потому что разрабы это не продумали. А далее по сюжету вы будете удивляться, будто вы там первый раз.

Ну и последний существенный минус. ТЕБЕ НЕ ПОНЯТНО ЧЕ ДЕЛАТЬ. Если в начале задачи хотя бы подписывали вместе с комнатой, и приходилось тыкаться внутри неё, то ко второму дню на это забили и приходилось тыкаться во всё подряд в доме, в надежде на срабатывание. Доходило до того, что я приходил к правильной точке, но не нажимал на свои вещи и уходил из комнаты еще минут на 20 в поисках чего-то несуществующего. Да и сама карта не то, что бы удобная

Excelente ambientación, se puede sentir el suspenso y MUY buen pacing (aunque algunas convos pueden ser un poco largas)... El movimiento un poco lento, pero ok... la historia es interesante pero el final (más alla del plot twist) me dejo con sabor a poco... Como que el mensaje que se quiere transmitir es demasiado chocante y fuera de lugar... aunque quizas para algunos esa sea la gracia xd. Un meh general, no lo rejugaria pero lo recomiendo para el que quiera pasar una noche entretenida dando vueltas por un hotel abandonado :)!

The mechanics of the game were... sketchy at best. The movements felt glitchy & the overall gameplay left a lot to be desired. Every aspect felt like it was being spoon fed to me, not a lot of actual investigating.

Not to mention the game froze & I had restart multiple days from the beginning. I found the subject matter to be... questionable as well. I would be concerned for a teenager to come across this game as it glorifies & in some ways it felt like it... defended? paedophilia and suicide... super messed up.

I had hoped the ending would have been different & I actually regret that I paid money for this, I can't quite wrap my head around why someone would *want* to write a game with these themes? I mean sure murder and mystery are big in the genre of investigation style games... but this felt weird.

So the dad and mom get away both statutory rape AND murder... like... wtf.

I even recommended this game to friends; I've never been so wrong

Everything goes relatively well until day 6 or 7 (if you ignore the less-than-ideal UX, the lack of settings, and the level design itself in places, but these are all really minor details that won't be a problem for everyone)

But after that, it feels like the game was rushed through development in a few weeks. Softlocks force you to play through the same day multiple times (saving only works at the start of each new day), incomprehensible character decisions, strange environmental behavior, as if there's some paranormal activity going on here, but it's not there, just as there's no real explanation for all the slamming doors. And at the end, we learn the TRUTH, which only disappoints and raises even more questions

And then we're shown a so-called epilogue with the heroine in the car, which hammers the final nail into the coffin of an already weak plot

P.S. I even got a bug in the achievement for completing the game, which only adds to the disappointment

The Suicide of Rachel Foster é aquele tipo de jogo que você termina pensando: “isso aqui daria um filmaço fácil”. A história é interessante, pesada em vários momentos, e claramente pensada pra ser mais narrativa do que gameplay. Dá até pra imaginar como isso teria ficado nas mãos de um estúdio AAA, provavelmente mais polido, mais interativo… mas talvez também menos intimista.

E falando em filme: se você já assistiu The Shining, prepare-se pra um festival de referências. Eu, particularmente, sou fã do Kubrick, então a cada passo pelo hotel era um “opa, isso eu conheço”. O carpete idêntico ao do filme, a cozinha com despensa e freezer (com direito a achievement “Freeze to death”), o quarto 217, os intertítulos estilo Day 1, Day 2, a vibe geral de isolamento… até a sensação de que a qualquer momento ia aparecer um maluco com machado correndo pelo corredor. Só senti falta do machado pendurado na parede, já tava quase esperando uma boss fight ali.

A ambientação é o ponto alto. O hotel é lindíssimo, cheio de detalhes, e passa muito bem essa sensação de solidão e desconforto. A trilha e o trabalho de som ajudam bastante a criar clima, e a narrativa vai te puxando aos poucos, com uma história bem pesada e um plot twist final que pega de surpresa.

Agora, sendo bem honesto: como todo walking simulator, ele exige paciência. Em vários momentos o jogo fica desgastante, porque não tem praticamente nada pra interagir, você anda, observa, analisa uma coisa aqui, pega um item ali… e segue andando. Uns 90% do hotel é basicamente cenário. Isso pode afastar fácil quem não curte esse estilo mais contemplativo. Se você espera ação ou gameplay mais ativa, já aviso: não é esse o jogo.

No fim, é uma experiência bem específica. Vale muito a pena pra quem gosta de jogos narrativos, clima psicológico e referências cinematográficas. Não é pra qualquer um, mas pra quem entra na proposta, é aquele tipo de jogo de final de semana que fica na memória. Sinceramente? Um filme disso cairia muito bem.

Nota: 6,5/10 — indie, pesado, cheio de Kubrick vibes e perfeito pra quem curte caminhar por hotéis vazios refletindo sobre a vida (e esperando um machado aparecer).

Analyzing traumatizing events using a grey scale rather than a clean cut black/white separation is a skill that must be honed. Some might say it's more of a "cursed gift", a sort of scar a writer bears within themselves and by virtue of having lived through it they can actually put their thoughts and life experiences to paper.
Oldboy's ending (no spoilers here, but still, watch the damn movie) was visceral not just on a visual level, but also because of how it managed to make us sympathize to a certain degree with every character. There was a mutual understanding between author and audience that these people are irremediably broken and they can't heal. There's no justification for their actions, only an understanding of what led them to become the persons they are now.

Cut to Suicide of Rachel Foster, where we're told age is just a number and you're supposed to feel bad for the consequences of grooming, while ignoring the actual crime that caused them.
The banging doors and loud thunder cracks that methodically break the silence of the mountain lodge the game is set in can't even scratch the eardrums of one of the most tone deaf scripts I've had the displeasure to suffer through, as the story slowly - literally - drags us through a pitch perfect replica of Kubrik's Overlook Hotel; yet, rather than being an inexorable descent into madness and paranoia, The (alleged) Auto-Kill of Rachel Foster is a cringe-fest barrage of dialogues where 2 (alleged) human beings attempt to put 3 words together that don't sound like a translation from japanese to english regurgigated by the beta version of Google Translate.

And yet, cringe as it may be, it's still a thousand times more digestible than whatever the hell the final act was.
As a game, it's one of the most plain, oatmeal-flavored walking simulator out there, as a story, it's the Lolita equivalent of people idolizing American Psycho's Bateman

You should give it a try and know that what people are saying about it romanticizing Pedophilia are not true. I loved everything about this game. It felt like a darker version of What Remains of Edith Finch. I'll admit that at first, the character of Rachel was had to like, but she quickly grew on me the more the story progressed. If you want short story game or just something to get achievements on, I highly suggest giving this a chance.

- the ending is disappointing
- game softlocked twice in chapter 9. since the game only saves between chapters, i had to replay it all over again. twice.
- since i played chapter 9 three times, i had an opportunity to choose every option of the dialog. and they do nothing. no matter what you choose, the other person always responds the same, which begs the question: what's the point? why even give options if it doesn't affect anything? and i'm not talking about "different ending" type ♥♥♥♥, there's not even a line that makes the dialogue options different

anyways, if steam had "mid" rating, i'd choose it. 5/10 if not for the softlock issue, i'd probably give like 8/10

A atmosfera do hotel é incrível: te deixa tenso, mas não leva a lugar nenhum.
O jogo tem um mapa relativamente grande e tudo nele é muito bem detalhado, porém praticamente nada é útil. Há pouca interação com o ambiente, e os dois itens recebidos para exploração também são inúteis (tanto faz usá-los ou não).

As escolhas de respostas nos diálogos também não servem para nada; independentemente do que você responda, a continuação da conversa é sempre a mesma e não influenciam nada na história.

Além disso, há bugs que te deixam sem a possibilidade de selecionar itens para continuar a trama, além de travamentos na transição de cenas, sendo necessário reiniciar todo o capítulo.

Por fim, o tema é bastante repulsivo e não foi bem tratado, não assumindo uma posição clara sobre essa aberração nem transmitindo uma mensagem consistente sobre o objetivo final.

The game glitches way too much for a 3 hour game. It happened to me at least 2-3 times. I gave up on completing it because it glitched at the very ending and now I have to restart the entire game at Day 9. It has a poor save mechanism. Not even worth $2 IMO.

El sistema de navegación resulta confuso, ya que el mapa no indica la ubicación del jugador y la interacción se limita al uso de la mente. Existen numerosos libros y objetos con los que no es posible interactuar de manera significativa. Tras pasar aproximadamente una hora recorriendo el escenario sin avanzar, la experiencia resulta frustrante, por lo que no lo recomiendo en absoluto.

The game was not bad overall:

+ story (although not entirely clear)
+ graphics
+ feels like a real hotel

- no key bindings (the basics for every game in my opinion)
- experienced 2 crashes (black screen with a dot - at the start of level 2 and at the end of level 9)
- sometimes there is limited interaction with objects
- the external view (outside snow view) should have been a bit clearer (would have added to the feeling of being snowed in by the snowstorm)
- sometimes the timings of the phone calls of Irving are annoying
- sometimes it feels a bit like moving too much back and forth in some levels

This game was rather slow to win me over, but its unexpectedly upbeat and cozy ambience served to make the final revelations all the more uncanny. I'm surprised that this is not categorised as a horror game, because it did genuinely feel like one to me, and I'm not an easy to frighten person. I understand the controversy regarding the plot, but I personally found it brave and sincere. Overally, it's one of the best experiences I've had from a short, adventure narrative horror game and I certainly recommend it.

Бродилка с необычным, но слегка предсказуемым сюжетом. Круто передана атмосфера одиночество пока блуждаешь по коридорам отеля. Ну и наполнены локации тоже грамотно, видишь что когда-то тут кипела жизнь, но всяких записочек и памятных вещей, как в каком-нибудь Gone Home критически мало, зато можно повертеть в руках строительный уровень, текилу и всякую другую не нужную всячину.
Было прикольно проходить такую снежную игру в сегодняшнюю московскую непогоду

Jogo emocionante, bem imersivo (principalmente se seguir a recomendação de jogar de fone) e, eu diria, com uma boa duração (nem muito longo, nem muito curto). A história é muito bem amarrada, com ótimos "plot twists" e uma crescente num tempo ideal — dado o estilo de jogo (Simulador de Caminhada/Atmosférico) e gênero (Suspense/Mistério).

Com toda certeza não é um jogo pra todos, tem assuntos realmente fortes/sensíveis (como o próprio nome do jogo aponta) — pode dar gatilhos em algumas pessoas — e tem uma jogabilidade bem limitada (o que é extremamente comum em jogos "Simulador de Caminhada"), então pra gostar do jogo automaticamente você não pode se incomodar com esse estilo de jogo (o lance é andar e explorar locais ao longo de todo o jogo).

Overall, I found this story to be an interesting, albeit shallow, exploration of how the disgusting, heinous acts of one individual can destroy two whole families. It explores how these actions affect the people around the perpetrator as well as the victim, which is not something we often see as they are often just disregarded as complicit or whatever else. There are some... Interesting decisions made with some of the writing that I'm choosing to believe are just poorly executed rather than being indicative of the writer holding those questionable beliefs.
