Very enjoyable but very short. I loved the art and setting.

The story follows a plague doctor navigating superstition and ignorance with real historical grounding, and the puzzle design is mostly logical — I particularly enjoyed the zodiac man puzzle, though a couple of solutions felt arbitrary and had me stumped. My main complaint mirrors what everyone else says: the game ends just when you're getting truly invested, clocking in around two hours, which feels too brief to fully develop its characters or themes. That said, the quality of what's here is undeniable, and the multiple endings give it some replay value even if the differences are modest. Love the pixel graphics and the music was nice, but all in all this was way too short and shallow for my taste. The moment some tension comes up and things are getting interesting, it's over already. I also found the puzzles pretty confusing tbh, because the game suffers from a typical p&c-game issue, that progression is locked behind specific conversations or item usage you have to do in the exact right order.

A peste negra phodeu de jeito o continente, pois lá era perfeitamente normal viver o modo Cascão de ser. Eles literalmente tacavam a merda deles todo dia pela janela e foda-se. Além disso, as ruas das cidades europeias eram uma porra, sempre tinha muita sujeira, pois ao invés de tacar fogo no lixo, eles focavam em tacar fogo nas bruxas. A peste negra também acompanhou uma onda de suicídios que se originou na Europa graças ao livro Os Sofrimentos Do Jovem Werther, que continha a história mais triste de todos os tempos: um cara que não conseguiu namorar uma menina e se mata com um prestobarba rosinha com fita umectante. De todas as doenças, a peste foi uma das poucas que tiveram influência determinante no desenvolvimento da história da humanidade. Vários jovens entre 12 e 16 anos foram afetados, quase todos letalmente, e os azarados que não morreram sofreram retardo mental eterno e foram excluídos da sociedade, como se fosse muito ruim ficar recluso de uma sociedade que cheirava a meia usada. Com o tempo a peste foi sendo adaptada e algumas bandas de metal passaram a usar como símbolo (ainda hoje usam) pelas mensagens subliminares em suas músicas

Mais derrière cette simplicité se cache une volonté claire : placer le joueur dans une position inconfortable, fragile mais humaine. Ici, on ne sauve pas le monde. On tente seulement de limiter la casse.
Le gameplay épouse cette idée avec rigueur. Chaque action a un poids. Chaque décision coûte quelque chose. Le jeu refuse la gratification immédiate. a game that immediately, upon minutes of arriving at the hospital attempts to moralize you about our tiny hat fellows and nomadic "Romanians" if you catch the drift, i stopped playing immediately because instead of simply acknowledging that the way medieval Europeans viewed these people with suspicion (mind you-rightfully so seeing as how blood libel, human sacrifice and well poisoning are well documented events by medieval physicians, historians and the catholic church) and moving on with our lives we now have to find some way to disperse a mob of fellow villagers from a well all because of their wrong views! their low bro low iq xenophobic antisemitic religious fanaticism is preventing you from fetching a pail of water, im sure these dumb medieval peasant white boys couldnt possibly be reasoned with to get some water so that i can go on with the game... no! lest they be converted to tolerance, diversity and inclusion i may not fetch water so that a nun can wash someone. its insane how post-war German guilt still manages to infest and ruin what would be a simple, delightful medieval mystery game where you take on the role of a doctor, this might seem petty of me to stop playing simply because of this and i wish i could refund it but ive owned it for too long. its not even a realistic or entertaining way to handle these issues because immediately when you go to see the guard of the duchess her guard has to remind you that the duchess' former doctor was a super goody wholesome chungus levantine doctor! and that he was expired by those who dont like his people! how utterly disappointing, obvious and mundane can this really be? we've gone from subliminal satanic messages being heard when a song is played backwards (this is a joke) to being told to be a good goy in a medieval setting where people faced brutal realities and beautiful moments in their short lives on the way to building civilization, alas us barbaric dumdum hick gentiles will never truly understand the error of our ways. im going to wear crop tops, booty shorts, catch a fk flu and let all the somali doctors and astronauts run a train on my daughter for the error of my unconscious and genetic predisposition towards antisemitism!

I found The Plague Doctor of Wippra really enjoyable, even if it’s very short. The story and dialogue work well, and the puzzles are nicely balanced: neither too easy nor too brain-melting (though… I did check a guide once).
As for achievements, most of them are easy to get, but I had to do three playthroughs to unlock the last one: you need to trigger specific dialogue with several characters, and I missed it the first two times.
All in all, I recommend this game.

Maybe it's my lack of familiarity with the genre but some of the puzzle solutions were more frustrating than intuitive. A hint system beyond the medical book would have been nice as well not being punished for using it. The achievements weren't very impactful: being acquired for just doing the main story or choosing specific dialog options. The autosave and deletion of your save file after completing the game meant replaying the whole game for them. The game didn't really hold up to a second playthrough since there's no difference in the puzzles or dialog outcomes beyond the very last one. Despite everything, I still enjoyed my time with the game. Great art, music, and atmosphere.

Une aventure en point'n'click qui nous rappellent les classiques du genre dans le gameplay, et qui a une histoire courte, mais efficace. Le jeu ne tombe jamais dans le cliché et nous rappelle en même temps les périodes les plus sombres de notre histoire, sans en détourner le regard. Les personnages sont bien écrits, et les énigmes ne sont pas trop tirées par les cheveux, sans être trop facile non plus. Bref, j'ai passé un vrai bon moment, merci beaucoup !

This was a short but well played out old school point & click story telling adventure (if not a bit moribund given the subject matter).
Steam records my play time as 2.7 hours but it felt like a longer stay - not because it was boring.. just easy to lose track of time once it got going.
If it's on sale and you like old school point and click games - it's worth the time and doesn't overstay it's welcome

A very simple point and click style game. Short game play (about 1 1 /2 hours) which is perfect and refreshing.
The main selling point is unlike other games of this style, your choices through the game matter and affect the ending, resulting in multiple endings.
The story line is frustrating in the historical accuracy, and knowing what we know today, the closed minded ignorance of the past really got to me. But again, this gives the game bonus points for being able to give me such emotions.

Honestly wishlisted this one for a time because it reminded me of The Last Door which is a game I have loved for years. It's got the looks and vibes but manages to stand on its own. Overall a brief but charming point-and-click adventure game set in the early 1500s, where a physician named Oswald Keller is tasked with helping patients and navigating the social structure of the time period. We follow him through his duties including salves, patients, getting the period-appropriate remedies and tools, and surgery (nothing hardcore). The gameplay is solid, but the dialogue and story are the true star. The game itself touches on heavy themes like religious persecution, racism, and mob mentality with appropriate gravity. A certain priest begins to hate Oswald and all the cards turn against him in the end, but I garnered there's a certain reward from the benevolence he gets to portray in his role as the medical practitioner, healing others in a time where misunderstanding and suspicion is easy to be thrown at you. This is a game where choices actually matter both morally and the aftermath of the procedures you may either butcher or dutifully excel in. With its retro graphics and sound and the ability to move at your leisurely pace, being able to pixel hunt for clues whilst a sombre, beautiful soundtrack plays in the background... it was a joy to play.

A bit short, the gameplay is ok, and the adventure is not to difficult, the pixel effect was 40 years ago in the time of 'King's Quest' state of the art, but now a days it's outdated and adds nothing to the game. This game is worth your money if you can buy it for 5 euro's or less.

Also, most of the riddles ar quite logical and neat, but there are some which were too much out there for me [spoiler] like the one where you have to chase around a bird in yard even going on the outside of the building to get a father to then use the father to distribute blood to draw some leeches… [/spoiler]
If you are into pixel-art and/or point and click-adventure games with a darker atmosphere check it out but be aware that it is short.

"The Plague Doctor of Wippra" is a quite short (<2hrs) and somber point and click-adventure, where you play a young physician getting to a small german town tormented by the plague. The historical aspects feel believable, hope ist dwindling and the situations and the people in it become bleak.
The pixelated graphics are simple and nice and along with some moody ambience sound design the overall feel does deliver. The puzzles are quite simple (one ore two times it is somewhat irritating, but nothing too cryptic), but they revolve around medieval medicine and their beliefs (bloodletting, humors, zodiacs), which is a nice detail.
Overall a solid, short and somber P&C experience for a small fix!

It's alright. Nice visuals, good sound, the music is a bit heavy, but fits. And the responsive, game-span choice-based ending to the story is also a nice addition.
I think the complaints about the game's length, however, are rather justified, and that, combined with some annoying moon-logic puzzles, gives this game a 6/10 from me.

This pixel art point and click game takes you behind the curtain of history, and into the homes of people whose lives were ravaged by the Black Death in 16th century Germany. But it’s also soaked through with dramatic irony; that is, with the knowledge that modern players take into the game with them, but which, tragically, the characters themselves do not possess. (Some of the choices in the game pivot on this historical disjunction). The game thus creates a sense of immersion in the stricken medieval town of Wippra, as well a sense of intellectual and dramatic distance, as you zoom in and out of the historical setting, equipped with your empathy and historical knowledge. The writing is simple, but effective in its evocations of compassion for the suffering depicted in the game. The implied allusions to the Covid-19 pandemic are also well-judged. Fans of pixel art will love the classically-simple art style, and the moody music - beautifully melancholic strings and piano - adds considerably to the atmosphere. The point and click puzzles are, for the most part, on the easier end of the spectrum, which fits in well with the narrative structure. The game also features my favourite inventory item in a point and click game, ever. The main theme - the clash between medical science and Christian dogmatism - is perhaps a little simplistic in its execution, but, like the writing, it is effective, especially with that added layer of (tragic) dramatic irony. It is a bit gawky, clumsy and (loveably) old-fashioned at times (but with good, modern UI), and there’s some slow walking (which I personally love); but this game, by a solo dev, is highly impressive. Recommended to lovers of video game historical fiction (it has some stuff in common with Pentiment), good storytelling and gorgeous pixel art.

O jogo é bem legal. Não é o que eu esperava quando comprei, eu pensei que era um pouco maior e que iriam ter mais situações de escolha, como situações de dia-a-dia de cuidar de alguns pacientes e dar merda e problema por fazer escolhas erradas e tals. O jogo é mais linear pra contar uma historinha legal ali, o que é bom também, algumas poucas escolhas que levam a uma leve mudança de final. Gostei.

Short and nice, I really enjoyed it. The puzzles were interesting and fit the story, and they were all logical.
A bit on the easy side, and I finished within a couple of hours with all achievements after a second playthrough - so if that's a dealbreaker to you, this is not the game for you. I definitely would have loved to play a bit more, since it was very interesting, but I also appreciate that it didn't try to drag things out.

Хорошая подача истории, немного вымученный поинт-энд-клик, когда не дают собрать ресурс сразу, а нужно пройти через определенную точку сюжета, что несколько оправдано объемом инвентаря.

I really enjoyed the puzzles in this game, as they actually require quite a bit of thought, all while being educational about and sensitive to the cultural and medicinal challenges of the plague in Europe. Sometimes they aren't as intuitive, but you always end up figuring it out somehow :]
A pretty short game but fun! I followed a guide as I found that a lot of the puzzles stumped me (I suck at puzzle and point-and-click games) but enjoyed it regardless.
Splendida avventura grafica, narrazione avvincente e ben scritta, puzzle né troppo difficili né scontati, atmosfera complessiva del gioco davvero suggestiva, musiche ben scritte e poetiche, grafica pixel art adorabile. Una delle migliori avventure grafiche a cui ho giocato ultimamente! Consigliatissimo per gli amanti del genere.

I got this game in a bundle for another game I wanted so basically it was free. I liked the music, and everyone is lauding the historical accuracy, which I did enjoy. Very short game, I only got more than an hour because I was multitasking. The point-and-click puzzles were very hit-or-miss for me, but my biggest issue was the dialogue. Pretty annoying that I got executed at the end because I didn't clock out at the nunnery even though the PC says "There's nothing left for me to do here" or something like that. It made it feel like the game tries to trick you to pick the wrong options. Like, at the very beginning you see a guard boarding up a family in their home so I didn't tell him about the other family with the plague -you know- so they wouldn't starve to death?? But when I learned about the meals on wheels service, I reported the family to the guard. And he STILL called me a liar?
É um jogo muito educativo que retrata muito bem como foi a Peste Negra e seus meios de tratamento. Além de demonstrar como a igreja influenciava o medo e a ignorância pela sua própria ganância.
Good game
Much too short for the price. Even bought on sale it felt like a waste. Just when I thought the story was picking up, it ended. This feels like the dev's practice game rather than a full-fledged product and has no business costing €10. The puzzles are on the lower end of point & click quality with much tedious back and forth and in many cases just throwing ♥♥♥♥ at a wall and seeing what sticks. Unfortunately cannot refund as this back and forth put me 30 mins over the playtime!

Esse jogo me fez questionar quantos que devem morrer para que uma ideia nasça e prospere para que no futuro a mesma seja questionada, esquecida e volte para a estaca zero, onde novamente outra pessoa terá que renová-la e assim se repetir o ciclo.

Um jogo curto, mas desafiador em alguns momentos. Esse point in click recomendo jogar com o modo que indica onde pode interagir, pois eu fiquei travado por uma hora em uma única interação. Tirando tudo isso, a quantidade de escolhas que tem é inovador para esse gênero, acho que esse jogo devia ser mais valorizado como The Longing foi.

缺点：多结局游戏没有自由存档，想要打出多结局需要重复新游戏；部分音效（例如小孩哭声）既不算在音乐里也不算在音效里，算是疏漏；
个人认为放血顺序解密那里有些不合逻辑。

Didn't enjoy this one. Advancing feels SO tedious even for a p&c... was almost shocked when it ended, felt more like a shortstory than a novel. No animations but walking, no voice, no proper end, no eyes ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥!

Mit diesen Spiel wurde sich von Seiten der Macher scheinbar auch ein kleiner Bildungsauftrag für dieses kleine Spiel gegeben. In aller kürze zusammengefasst, wird hier in die Rolle eines Arztes geschlüpft am Ende des Mittelalters bzw. zu Beginn der Beuzeit. Hier gilt es die ein oder andere Heilung vorzunehmen im Rahmen dieses Adventures. Neben versucht sich "The Plague Doctor of Wippra" gelungen daran, die Zeit komplexer Darzustellen als es in Banalisierungen oftmals der Fall. Hygiene existiert tatsächlich bereits, aber auch das Klische vom geifernden Ablasshändler findet in diesem Spiel seinen Platz. Über den zu spielenden Arzt selbst ist kaum etwas in dem Spiel zu erfahren, weshalb sich zwangsläufig der Eindruck einstellt ein Spiel mit Bildungsauftrag zum Thema Hygiene um das Jahr 1500 zu spielen. Das selbst macht das Spiel noch nicht unempfehlenswert oder gar schlecht.
Störend an dem Spiel ist das viele Rätsel in ihrer Lösung sich zwar recht schnell von selbst erklären, aber doch in einer kleinteiligen Abfolge gelöst werden müssen. Bei einer Spieldauer von ungefähr drei Stunden ist das noch hinnehmbar, doch gelegentlich hat es dennoch die Nerven strapaziert, die Lösung eines Rätsels zu wissen, aber wegen Zwischenschritten, die sich nicht zwangsläufig selbst erklären, braucht es immer wieder länger als nötig für die Lösungen. Der geringe Handlungsradius macht es dafür geradezu unmöglich nicht durch ausprobieren am Ende zur Lösung zu gelangen.
Darüber hinaus ist es ein typisches Adventure in Pixelart Optik, wo Dialoge gesprochen werden müssen und Dinge mit Dingen ausprobiert werden müssen.
Insgesamt eigenet sich das Spiel, sollte man nur wenig Stunden mal für ein Adventure aufwenden wollen, gut zum Spielen. Die Kleinteiligkeit bei der Lösung der Rätsel und die blasse Hauptfigur sind hingegen nichts, was zum Spielen anregt. Allenfalls wer an dieser Zeit interessiert ist sollte sich dieses Spiel aus Neugier zulegen, wenn es im Sale ist. Um mehr als fünf Euro für dieses Spiel auszugeben ist es nicht gehaltvoll genug.

It's a very atmospheric but unfortunately very short game. The riddles are appropriate, a bit too easy at times, but quite creative. I recommend it if you want to escape for a couple of hours, as the game is very immersive and addictive :) but I guarantee it will leave you wanting for more <3

Las diferentes opciones y como vas realizando la historia te podría perjudicar para mas adelante, es genial que por hacer algo mal te lo digan luego. así que lee lo que haces. De 2 a 3 horas te lo terminas si vas tranqui, 4 si eres lento en los puzzles.
Recomendado pero compralo cuando este en oferta.
