J.J scours Memoria Island to find her best friend, who has gone missing during a camping trip. However, this island was like a nightmare: no matter how many times she sustains fatal injury, she can’t die, and instead is somehow able to revive herself back to normal. J.J ventures into the depth of the island as she drags her mutilated body along, enduring the pain. In order to save her best friend, she puts her own body and life on the line, reviving infinitely, as she presses forward.

This is an outstanding game, though not perfect.

On the technical side of things it lacks a lot of grace - the gameplay is innovative and fun conceptually, but as far as the execution goes it could use a lot of refining. Movement can get odd, sometimes (most of the time) interacting with stuff is janky and, especially towards the endgame, while remaining simple some of the puzzles get a bit convoluted in a frustrating way.

Despite all that this game is perhaps one of the best explorations of its themes at least among the medium, maybe in general. It is gruesome and forthright while presenting the player with a description of the circumstance rather than a particular interpretation - in so doing a well-defined framework is built so as to facilitate the message and also allow for the thoughts of the players to build upon it. It is not an extremely high-brow piece of literature, but it has things to say and at least to me they seem a useful aspect to ponder.

Not everyone may be able to directly relate to the characters' experiences, but the authentic representation opens way for empathy and makes the experience worthwhile if only to better understand people/life in general.

It is a relatively short experience, so the gameplay being somewhat underdone is not a large hurdle, and with the story being rather thoughtful I can only recommend this game.

This game makes a bad first impression. After realizing you can't remap the controls and the games glyphs for a controller don't change based on what you have plugged in, you're greeted with rough voice acting and an in game menu that is so broken you can't even use it without your mouse. Your cursor doesn't go away either. You have to drag it to the edge of the screen if you don't want it on top of your game.

But if you can get past this strong attempt to turn you away, you'll soon come to realize that the game's actually really fun. The central mechanic of hurting or dismembering yourself in some way to solve the puzzles is used in various creative ways. It's grotesque and absurd and that's why it works. When you start having thoughts like "I could break my neck to shift gravity, then cut of my arm and throw it between the gears before setting myself on fire to open the gate" you know the game is successfully making a point to you. It's a classic high concept, horror adjacent 2.5D puzzler à la Limbo, Darq or Little Nightmares, in gameplay and in storytelling.

Much of what makes this story so resonant comes from the metaphorical world. Everything is something else, symbolism is everywhere, meaning comes before reason. Very much in the spirit of the games that insipired it, the world of THE MISSING is constructed out of pieces of the real world, rearranged into something surreal, liminal and defamiliarised. This is where the storytelling shines the most. It's weird and it leans into that to be thought provoking. When you come across a place or a new object, you immediately question what it means to JJ. I'm vocal in my criticism of stories that throw metaphors and symbols at you without giving you a baseline for the character they're attached to. THE MISSING is not one of those stories. Through the text messages you unlock over time, you gain a basic understanding of who JJ is as a person. The experience of the game is where the rest is hidden. The secrets, the things that were only whispered between Emily and JJ. Piecing it together is a wonderful and emotional experience.

What then bugs me is that the game sometimes doesn't trust you to figure these things out. To come to your own conclusion. Imagine you have been chased by a grotesque, four armed Monster throughout the game. It has earned its symbolic weight and meaning to you. And when the game enters its finale, JJ all but turns to the camers and tells you what it means. Suddenly, the meandering, personal note collapses into a singular vision. It's not special to you anymore. What was the point of thinking about it? The game doesn't do this too often because thankfully JJ doesn't talk all that much throughout the game. But when she does, she likes to tell you the meaning of things that were much more powerful unexplained. The mono- and dialogue is really the major weakpoint of the experience. It's shallow, direct and not very well acted. JJ's voice actress is great when doing pain sounds, but the actual spoken lines would actually have been more effective if they were simply written on screen, leaving the intonation up to imagination. The writing is better in the text messages. Those are clunky at times, but often they read believable to pretty subtext rich and even emotionally impacting. Thumbs up on that part.

THE MISSING is a very personal experience. I love a protagonist that I can't relate too all that much, but whom I still understand and feel for. That is, in my opinion, a high achievement in the art of character writing. JJ is unlike most people. And for such a story to successfully create an experience that feels resonant and close, despite never, having lived comparable circumstances is a feat I applaud. A masterstroke in that aspect lies in a brutal, kind of soul-crushing moment at the very end. It gave me an understanding of an experience I have never felt in my life. I don't want to get too into it. You'll know it when it hits you.

Overall, THE MISSING is quite rough around the edges, to the point that it occasionally sabotages itself. But the very core, the experience, told through gameplay, visual and atmosphere, is strong, resonant and unique. It's smarter than it gives itself credit for. On top of that the game is just fun and there's even some stuff to grind and secrets to uncover for the completionists like me. Another win for Limbo's legacy!

The "game" part is a solid 7.5/10 experience. Possibly the best "game" SWERY ever made. The story and presentation I have, mixed feelings on?

Its violence feels voyeuristic and exploitative but it can be argued that that's part of the lived experience it's trying to convey. SWERY's track record with this subject matter before and after also has me ambivalent.

Ultimately, I lean positive on JJ Macfield, though. It was bold, creative and has a strong message to share, through its weird and intimate violence. Just keep in mind, all the trigger warnings.

没办法，有的关卡收集物设计是，你不缺胳膊少腿或者只剩个球你是拿不到的
以及主角[spoiler] 其实是个男生，相当于是性别男但是心理女 [/spoiler]的身份问题比较……敏感？
好消息是缺胳膊内容是美化处理了的，但是你还是看得出来造成了什么伤害
如果对这方面内容感到不适，千万别买，千万别买，千万别买
游戏全收集流程我估计是七个小时左右，操作上其实有点不太舒服，我最后是左右开弓操作的
主人公的操作有点点小僵硬（机能问题），拾取道具和呼唤这种功能冲突了
有时候你觉得能捡到东西但其实它判定你是捡不到的，这一点就很蛋疼
还有就是个人觉得可以增加一点存档点，因为你死了你就得从头来，还是有点点搞心态的
至于剧情和人物，人物其实真怪好看的……比我还像个妹子，动作很少女，衣服也好看
角色的惨叫是真的好疼啊……疼的我实在顶不住开最小了，女声是真的惨
剧情方面，主线角色和支线角色其实挺有血有肉的，每一次的聊天记录真的能让人感受到人物是在我们身边的
特别是主角的妈妈，看的我真的是头大拳头硬，真心觉得主角在这种家庭环境下压力山大
说多了就有些涉及剧透了，其实简单点说就是追求自我和自我理解、明白的故事
不管是什么身份，亦或是性别，我们人都需要经历这个过程，真正认清自己究竟是谁，也是成长的一部
总的来说，只要你对内容的特殊性能过接受，以及操作上的不适能够适应，那我个人还是挺推荐的

玩完之后我竟然很难凝练出一个短句来概括这作留给我的具体第一印象。我有很多平台跳跃和平台解谜的基础，因此算玩得比较快的；几个机制让本就机动性不高的JJ小姐姐（小哥哥）尤为举步维艰。这作在情感基调上跟魂系游戏有那么一点点渺远而淡薄的联系，比如那看似谜语人、而在玩完之后豁然开朗的剧情，也比如那极度的黑暗与压抑所带来的极度的救赎。环境叙事虽不是顶级，许多背景剧情依赖文本交代，但关键意象给得很足，结构上非常自洽。

这作的视觉风格基本擦着我接受度的底线低空掠过，直到最后那章之前，审美风格用“变态”形容都不为过——也许最浓墨重彩的就是各种意义非常露骨、不带任何忌讳的自杀描写（[spoiler]讲真，这几年玩了上百部游戏作品，这作对自杀的描写真的是最露骨的；更露骨的就得去读太宰治了。另外，如果这作的血溅效果是红色，恐怕连上架都难[/spoiler]）。死亡也许没有那么痛苦，但一次次的复活、然后再将自己反反复复粉身碎骨，这种轮回之苦才是令人汗毛倒竖的。

然而在长时间的精神攻击之下，有一种新的理智似乎悄然浮现。这当然可以是很恶趣味地用自己的尸块解谜、通过让自己炎上来穿越火场等。但是 J.J. 跟玛德琳和凯茜奥不同，她（他）的策略不是谈判和解、更不是呼喊求援，而是忍耐。家人十分保守也拒绝理解，社交圈里支持的人寥寥无几，社会氛围更是十分压抑、让人无法倾诉心声。当JJ忍耐那濒死的恐怖之感许久，神经那侧求生的本能和心灵那侧压抑的自尊合而为一，她（他）迎来的也许并不是周遭任何人的改观，而是[b]一个开端和一个机会[/b]，不必扼杀心灵深处的那个声音、去让自己坦坦荡荡承认自己与拥抱自己。[spoiler]至于之后会发生什么，那就让其他作品帮 J.J. 讲完吧[/spoiler]

另外说一点杂七杂八的吧。这作似乎不只是日系，好像是个实打实的日本作品。能从这作里窥见的社会氛围非常不像西方，比如通过严加管束来对孩子表达爱意的母亲、比如非常注重学业表现的老师同学、再比如那左思右想都很日系的女朋友等。

Управление в этой игре - полнейшее забагованное издевательство. Оно не работает нормально, постоянно нужно искать грёбаный пиксель, в котором действие сработает, а не героиня будет просто орать в пустоту вместо того, чтобы взять нужный объект. Секции, где нужно крутить ручку - самая боль, с ума сойдёшь, пока докрутишь её как надо. Если бы не это и не неадекватно расставленные чекпоинты и местами баги, из-за которых вдобавок приходится переигрывать одни и те же длиннющие секции по несколько раз, игра проходилась бы за пару часов. Её можно было бы похвалить, но переломанное (прямо как главная героиня; фить-ха) управление напрочь уничтожает любые положительные эмоции от интересной задумки.
Upd: дополняю обзор после прохождения сюжета. Это была бы достаточно хорошая история, если бы безостановочная фрустрация из-за геймплея не мешала испытывать другие эмоции, сочувствовать персонажам и проникаться ими. Раздражение из-за кривого управления, которое вообще не работает как надо, просто не оставляет шанса погрузиться в эту историю. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

失踪:J.J. 麦克菲尔德和追忆岛：横版闯关剧情游戏，发现TGA入围名单有，所以打算试试，总体感觉一般。
1：有繁体中文字幕。
2：画质一般，部分美术还行，带血腥。
3：剧情前面云里雾里，后面原来如此，可能玩的过快，代入感一般。
4：体量正常玩7-8小时通关，全成就更久点。
5：最喜欢的是操作和解谜部分，疯狂JJ，滴血重生，上下颠倒，浴火狂奔。
6：全收集得打二周目，不能随时存档有点麻烦，死了重头打费时间。
总体来说是马马虎虎，十块钱的小游戏。

The gameplay is flawed but the game mechanics are interesting to mess around with.
A few puzzles are frustrating but most of them are cleverly designed.
The writing is irregular and sometimes lacks subtlety but still manages to be deeply moving.
A game full of contrasts and contradictions that I'd still wholeheartedly recommend.
We desperately need more games that tell this kind of stories.

I don't think I've ever cried so much playing a game as I did with this one.

The adventure and gameplay are visually brutal, the puzzles are interesting and creative. The cell phone dialogue with the other characters feels real.And all these elements help on making up a beautiful story. The narrative is presented in a very interesting way and it's message always gets to me. This is my first SWERY game and it won't be my last.

Putting the Inside in Inside Mari, the Limbs in Limbo, the-

best I leave Cocoon unsaid. There's two entirely different games here operating at two separate levels of quality and focus. There's also a few points where the game likes to be silly by reminding us of Super Meat Boy's unfortunate legacy.

The game side takes the motifs of Lynch, but sends Lynch back to the trenches by telling on itself (while not being that opaque in the first place). It's a bog-standard Odyssey of the self conducted through snapped necks and self-immolation. It's island is too standard to be as surreal or psychological as it really ought to be, though I get hiding your hand. Very passable, but ultimately felt like a vessel for the real game of Donut collection.

The Missing puts the Secret in Secret Little H- sorry, sorry. The optional texts from your mother and five confidants that unfurl through getting enough data from your phone to see how you got here bring so many dilemmas and believability to the table. I... really like these characters. Archetypal or not, I've known these characters. I've been JJ against Lilys, admired people like Abby, endeared myself similarly for my professor's to show their nerdy side. I've also cut myself off from Lilys, Abbys and Professors scared of what my face looked like in their head.

They're all good friends, people I could see myself falling in with, pleasing and endearing to listen to, but they're also incredibly transactional or objectifying. We're Abby's vent, Phillip's pedestal, Lily's lust... and in the stress of having your social identity on the line, especially in a telegraphed hostile environment towards queer people, it's so easy to use those things as reasons to run, to disappear in the woods amidst the Estrogen Elves and Spiro Serpents until they can't recognize you anymore, until your bond is rotted drippage. Professor Goodman is an exception, but there's no person more ephemeral in their significance than a teacher, no person more capable of throwing us to the flames of Mother. Mother made me tremble, my arm shaking over the arrow keys as I clicked through her discovery. Trauma recalled, I guess, because I've been in this exact position... was forced to come out prematurely to not be seen as disgusting in my own home. Lucky me my parents are liberals, I guess... I don't think I would have survived voices outside my own head telling me I was wrong, disgusting, one of God's mistakes, cus I ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ know you internalize all that ♥♥♥♥. Emily is the beacon through that, yet the ultimate premise is that she is parroting your own words, your own actions, sympathetically signalling to you your own self-destruction. It's always you, gouging your eyes out, succumbing to the spectres of utter condemnation. There's always someone left, willing to chop themselves to bits to even loosen your chains. Love speaks louder than the judgement crucibles of unknown eyes, the cacophany of self-termination.

I... don't think JJ is good trans rep, but the capacity to delve into such transient shared experiences, to be thrown into the lens of utter distrust, uncertainty and hostility one perceives the world through for daring to read Butler and deny Freud is pinpoint accurate. I shook, I cried, I laughed, I longed. Maybe I should reach out to my Lilys and Abbys again, erase the scars of my dead face from the world. Still, fear of Mother grasps me, fear of my nihilistic, loveless past. Reparations for DP2 or not, this gives me hope that we can dismantle the utter fear and stigma of being your best self.

アクションはトライ＆エラーでやっていく感じだけど、テンポが悪すぎてイライラする。
しかも内容もつまんないし。テーマ自体はわりと好きだけど何一つ心に響かなかった。
ゲームを遊んでるってよりはこの通りやって!!っていう強制力がありやらされてる感じがする。

レビュー良かったから買ったけど、久しぶりにクソゲーつかまされた気分になった。

A horror/narrative platformer game that feels like a cross between Clock Tower and Prince of Persia. Super cool dismemberment mechanics and physics. Feels really good to play and collect donuts throughout the levels. Story is very touching too. If you like Celeste or similar titles then you’ll enjoy this quite a bit.

I’ve played every port of this game, Xbox, PS4, Steam and Switch. They all run pretty well but I had the least issues out of the Xbox version I’d say. Steam port is perfectly fine.

To the creators of this game, I would like to say thank you. The overarching story is a common one that yet too often goes unheard, and not all have happy endings.

And to any thinking of playing it, I would say it's a story worth hearing, rife with artistry, symbolism, and interesting gameplay mechanics.

Ну чисто геймлейно игра прикольная, хоть и немного медленная в плане анимаций. Сюжет такое, якобы о принятии себя, но подано это все мега странно. Если вам не особо нравятся эти там и вот эти вот, то думаю, стоит пропустить данную игру.

The puzzle mechanics of this game are good and engaging. The graphics are good. But the symbolism.

Oh. My god. The symbolism. The symbolism is what made me stick around.

Sometimes it feels like the only way forward is to hurt yourself. Cut. Burn. Bleed. Just so you know you're here. That you know who you are. Do you know who you are? You think you do. But there's a demon inside of you that wants to cut you up. You don't want to cut yourself up, do you? Of course not. Everyone has those thoughts. They're normal. Just don't give in to them. Keep moving forward. Don't let the thoughts catch you. Don't let them catch you. Don't let them catch you.

Other times, life hits you hard, and it feels like your entire world is upside down. Times like that, it feels like you need help. But don't worry, you can call out for help, and someone will come to your aid. Sometimes. Not always. Other times you'll call out for help, but wind up attacked instead. By the people who were supposed to help you. By the people you trusted.

Play the game, and you'll know more about what I mean by all this. It's a fantastic experience that sat in my library for way too long before I finally played it.

This was an absolutely beautiful game. It only took me about 5 hours to beat it and a futher 2-3 to get all the achievements (left the game open for a bit hence 10 hours), but I very much enjoyed my time with it. Although I wouldn't recommend the game on full price, I got it on discount for £4 which was absolutely worth it.

As a transgender person, the story of this game is considerably realistic, and I respect the developers for genuinely knowing what the trans experience can be like for some people. The flawed immortality mechanic is also very interesting, and made for a fun experience.

Sorry but I can't.

The story feels very interesting and human, but the way they did it... OMG.

It's a die and don't retry, until it's a die an retry, with checkpoints and other tropes found in every single platformer games ever.
I've already played at this game, back when Super Mario Bros was a thing, and Sonic, and Prince of Persia, and all the copies of those since forever.

There is a great concept that isn't pushed far enough. Immortality isn't immortality, but sometimes it is, but it isn't. The "body parts" are used as simple projectiles in puzzles where they already add other projectiles, so the function is just a repetition.
Lots of things that makes no sense, you get broken bones so the world is now upside down, and so forth.

Controls are very clumsy, there is a button to crouch, then the same to crawl, then the same to get back up, that and the jump button. But not the up or down joystick/pad, so you spend a lot of time just to go from standing to crawling to something else, falling down again because, you know, you only have one leg. And that's only for controller. Didn't even try the keyboard.
On the other hand, it has the basic features now, the character can run or walk depending on what you do with the controller, so that's a plus.

As for the technical point of view, the game isn't compatible with Ultra Wide screens, while I still play games from the 90's that can manage that. So you end up with two black bars on the left and right, and when the game wants (and it's frequent) make it more "cinema" (yeah, right...), it goes with two black bars below and under the image. You now play in a frame that is making your screen effectively look like a laptop's screen.
That, and the fact that your mouse is right in front of the image all the time and you have to move it, makes it a game that hasn't bee thought trough technically speaking.

So yeah... will ask for refund, very sad this thing is just pushing through the old platformer tropes even though it has an original concept, can't manage the technical challenge of coding a game correctly and is unable to do something else than "let's broke a girl on the screen, it's fun LOL, let's not try anything new except that, and let's make the girl a minor so it's more fun!"

Enquanto essa mudança é um pouco perceptível, com o jogo apresentando uma falta de polimento em alguns pontos representativa de seu orçamento menor, eu diria que no final o produto que eles conseguiram alcançar é realmente muito bom.

Para quem não conhece o trabalho do criador, eu diria que esse é provavelmente o jogo mais acessível para começar (o que diz muito sobre ele, considerando o conteúdo apontado nos avisos aqui na loja e antes dele começar). Para os que já conhecem ele, já sabem o que esperar: personagens e diálogos bizarros e engraçados, momentos repentinos de violência extrema, e uma história humana e surpreendentemente emocionante.

A história aqui foi o seu ponto alto para mim: por mais que os temas e simbolismos do jogo possam parecer óbvios desde o início, eu garanto que nem tudo é tão simples quanto parece, e que o final vai surpreender muito aqueles que chegarem aqui sem tomar spoilers, recomendo fortemente que evitem. É uma surpresa que não só recontextualiza o jogo todo, mas que carrega uma potência emocional bem forte. As mecânicas apresentadas aqui também são super criativas, com ótimas setpieces compondo as 6 horas de duração do jogo, e os visuais e a trilha sonora são constantemente lindos.

Se eu tivesse que apontar defeitos, diria que a velocidade da personagem principal é um pouco lenta demais, e que alguma das "fases" poderiam ter tido uma distribuição melhor de checkpoints. Fora isso, eu adorei minha experiência com THE MISSING, acho que é um jogo narrativo e de puzzle que vai surpreender todos que quiserem dar uma chance para ele - e que não tenham problemas nem com os temas abordados aqui, nem com a progressividade da temática e da narrativa do jogo.

A puzzle platformer with an unique game mechanic. To get further you sometimes need to drop body limbs. The setting has some nice David Lynch elements. It´s made on a budget. Sometimes you feel that the control is clunky and some puzzles would have needed more polishing but it´s not difficult to reach it to the end.

Also it´s important to mention this game features a big gender identity themed topic which might annoy people. But i can say for myself i always have been a person, who never had any issues with people who feel they were born in the wrong body and decide to live the way they feel comfortable. But still... Over the last years wokeness get smashied into peoples heads with a wooden hammer and that always annoys the f"§$E out of me. I refuse use pronouns for gramattical reasons but i always adress people directly.

But to make it not unneccesary long. The game doesn´t use the wooden hammer and it actually adresses this topic the right way. I you arent´t prepared for the big story reveal pretty late in the game you also get the emathic side and you will be surprised but feel in that character´s shoes without feeling being teached.

I like it and highly recommend it.

The difficulty of the game levels might all lie in the decryption process, but the actual decryption challenge is not very high. However, there are no clues for decryption, and it is entirely up to oneself to guess and understand.
In the game, what I really dislike is probably the horrible screams.
They make me feel a bit uncomfortable, but fortunately, I can reduce the volume to solve the problem.
What I like the most is the music within the game.

Спочатку мені хотілося накатати велику скопу тексту щодо кожного її аспекту — що виникає доволі рідко і каже, що гра зачепила потрібні ниточки — але все ж зупинюся на загальних речах і не витягуватиму назовні все, що задумували розробники, аби не псувати потенційному гравцю враження. В цілому для мене це absolute peak game about LGB and moreover about T. Інтро гри каже нам: “This game was made with the belief that nobody is wrong for being what they are” — і я абсолютно погоджуюсь з цією думкою.

Про технічну частину багато не розповім, це просто непоганий платформер японського виробництва з простенькою, але цілком приємною графікою, певною кількістю екшн-сцен, горрор моментів та великою кількістю головоломок, які дуже тісно пов'язані з кількома цікавими механіками самоушкодження головної героїні: розчленуванням, самопідпалом, ламанням кісток та шиї, які в свою чергу переплітаються з сюжетом і значення яких повністю розкривається під кінець проходження.

Тепер сюжет. Писати думки щодо всього не буду, бо це тупо проспойлерить все. Наведу лише трохи інфи щодо структури. Історія розкривається частково в ході самої гри та всього того психоделу, що відбувається на екрані і частково у вигляді переписок зі знайомими Джей-Джей у месенджері в її телефоні. Сюжет доволі цікавий, але не підходить для людей зі слабкими нервами. Він зачіпає теми самопошкодження та суїциду, сексуальності, важливості дружби та справжніх "сімейних цінностей" (а не тих, про які скандують чувачки в балаклавах), «інакшості», прийняття самого себе та неприйняття соціумом.

Єдиною проблемою, яка напевно може не сподобатись комусь, хто вирішить швидко пробігти гру і забути її, — це те, що велика кількість переписок в месенджері відкривається методом колекціонування пончиків, розкиданих по всіх локаціях. Утім, це не складно і певною мірою цікаво, адже потребує окрім вирішення основних головоломок, які рухають сюжет, вирішувати також і другорядні, які дозволяють дістатися до цих самих пончиків. Ну й більшість смаколиків не настільки заховані і все одно будуть підбиратися мимоволі, лежачи на вашому шляху і підігріваючи інтерес до цих самих переписок, спонукаючи відшукати заховані та дізнатися, що ж там далі було. Без цього ми не дізнаємося частинку минулого нашої героїні. Ну, ще бонусом за це нам відкривають галерею з прикольними концепт-артами та прикольні прикиди для головної героїні.

Most of swery's works to me occupy a "so bad its good" space -- this one is just plain good. It has just as much of his off-the-wall ideas as his other games but laser focused thematically in a tight experience that comes together in one of the most transcendent endings to a video game I've ever played. It's clumsy at times, sure, but every second still works for me. I can't recommend it enough as long as you can handle the heavy side and some very graphic winceworthy body horror inbuilt to the mechanics.

Overall... Very good game. One of the few I've 100%'d, though that isn't [i]too[/i] difficult.
It's a good story. It's a [b]tough[/b] story. I wouldn't recommend it for anyone that is suffering from depression, self harms, etc, though the game itself warns you about that sort of thing. The dialogue is [i]incredibly[/i] well done, honestly, all the characters felt like real people, music and level design are pretty peak, same with gameplay mechanics in general. Honestly... Just overall, [i]very[/i] well done.

The only real complaints are ones of personal taste -[spoiler] I kinda wish they didn't censor the gore, it would have made it feel all the more real. Additionally, maybe a few more voice lines from the VA in pain, or being more specific? Even so, the lines felt [i]very[/i] real, so this is minor [b]at most.[/b] [/spoiler] Additionally, it did feel a bit short - Though if more was added, it would have felt far too much like padding, if that makes sense... Ah, well.

Got this on a 75% sale, it was well worth the money. Highly recommend, 8-9/10.

This game is sincere. The mechanic and resulting self harm tie in directly with the narrative and experience. And in many ways, that makes the game hard to play and uncomfortable. But it's not cheap. The game doesn't use gore for pure shock value or a cheap thrill. It's trying to convey a message. I found myself feeling that, throughout parts of the cell phone texts, that it felt pretty realistic. That these are the kinds of conversations I've seen or heard before, and that these are the types of conversations some people would tell me are 'unrealistic' and that 'no one talks like that'. But they do.

The well-meaning professor is not perfect. The younger friend who admires you isn't either. No one in this game is 'perfect'. They often mean well, and when there are hints of how their viewpoints contrast with JJ's or that they've screwed up, it's not cartoonish. No one you talk to in this game wants you to suffer, but sometimes their words add pressure, and we can see how JJ tries to maintain a public-facing persona...

I really struggle with whether or not to recommend this game. I think it's good. I think it's uncomfortable. I think it's ugly. And most of all, it's sincere - it's a sincere game, not just for queer folk or certain demographics. It's sincere, and it's painful, and it's uncomfortable and ugly and honest and exhausting.

And I'll be thinking about it for a while.

The Missing does a fantastic job of blending gameplay elements with story themes. What starts as a fairly gruesome and visceral puzzle game where you need to snap bones, hack off body parts, and even set yourself on fire in order to progress, ends up turning everything around in the end into the most surprisingly beautiful endings I've ever experienced in a game.

I was taken aback how well the themes and messages were handled in this game. It very easily could've gone badly and been fumbled, but it was done very well and respectfully. If you need a good, happy cry, this game is for you.

I tried my hardest to like this game, but it really just wouldn't let me. I really like the concept and the game did a good job of making me feel bad for JJ whenever she is forced to suffer something to progress the game. The story is compelling and I actually quite like it. The gameplay (when it works) was alright for the most part. If the game worked perfectly then I would give it a 9/10 for the story and concept and a 6/10 for the gameplay, and while I don't think it's worth $30, if you prioritize story/theme/concept over gameplay, I'd say it would definitely be worth getting if it's on sale, especially if you're a trans person.

However, at least in my experience, the interaction system is insanely finnicky and frustrating, and I often found myself being stuck on one simple "puzzle" for ridiculously long periods of time because JJ would just refuse to interact with whatever the object was no matter how many times I repositioned her. Sometimes I would intentionally kill myself to try and fix it, and that only worked like a quarter of the time. I think in total I spent more than an hour's worth of my time with this game moving millimeters at a time trying to get JJ to pick up or interact with something. And it doesn't help that the interact button is tied to the button that makes her cycle through one of five or so voicelines, which get insanely annoying really quickly when you have to repeatedly press the button in hopes that she finally decides that she's in the mood to actually do whatever you're trying to do. I don't know if this is just some uncommon bug I repeatedly encountered or if a lot of people have the same experience, but I certainly would not recommend this game unless you [i][b]really[/b][/i] prioritize story/theme/concept over gameplay.

The other (much more minor) gripe i have with this game is that the story and the topics handled in it often seem a little shallow. A lot of the foreshadowing is a little too on-the-nose, to the point where (at least in my opinion) it becomes fairly obvious what's going to happen before it does in a way that slightly ruins the suspense or impact of the moments. With that said, the characters are all very well written (except for F.K, no idea what his deal was) and serve a compelling purpose (even if the texting-based dialogue system doesn't really do them any favors), and I think the story is very good in spite of any minor gripes I have with it. The only times when I found myself enjoying the game more than I was frustrated with it or simply indifferent was during the story beats and the text messages. While the concepts are interesting, the puzzles are mostly either boring or frustrating, and the gameplay feels more like an obstacle to the story or something to force yourself through to get to the next story beat rather than something to supplement the story.

TL;DR Story good, gameplay frustrating and bad, buy it if it's on sale and you prioritize story over gameplay, especially if you're trans or some other variety of queer.

4/10 would have been better as a visual novel

血腥演出是好的，但是墨迹、恶心到了一个极点，我极度厌恶这磨蹭又拖时间的演出。不知道呼唤键和互动键是谁想出来放一块的，我全程都在听“艾米莉”的唐叫，恶心得要命。

One of the strangest games I have ever played. On a technical standpoint, it's kind of a nightmare: you need to play it at 60 FPS or physics breaks, but there is no in-game FPS limiter. The interact button will often fail because it shares a keybind with the "Shaun" button. Too many analogue stick rotations.

Story-wise and thematically however, I am had an engaging time in the later half of the game. I understand why so many other trans people were shilling this game, I get it and I agree. It feels like a window into some of my life experiences. As another reviewer said, the game is very forward about showing everything, and that is quite rare for games on these topics.

I do wish all the goofy text messages with F.K. didn't interrupt the story as consistently, or at least make J.J. be more affected by the actions in the game within those texts than just being rude emoji sticker texting because they only ever complain about it in the ending after everything has happened. I can see how it benefits by giving the player a breather, but I believe the puzzles do that enough.

解谜并不很难，有的地方要一点脑洞，过不去了就多调查一下亮晶晶(各种仪器)
可以说有一定程度的猎奇，断肢、着火、触电等等(不过这些在剧情上有一定的暗示作用)，主角不断地跨越这一切，不断地粉身碎骨而前进。虽说都用一片黑漆漆来表示，还是请慎入。
剧情里的一些文本和演出可能感觉很奇怪，通关之后就会明白了

人的本质是什么？是违背天性而强行追求“泯然众人”？还是坚守着作为人的骄傲和自尊？这也许就是故事留给我们的思考

A mixed bag of good and bad. I prolly had my hopes too high in this one. Definitely there is that unique Swery's touch and I did feel the story and its characters, but nevertheless it just felt bit flat and simple. As much as I was hyped for its first input text saying "This game was made with the belief that nobody is wrong for being what they are" and info that this game is about gender-identity, I still was left a little disappointed in the end.

This reason for the sullenness might actually become from feeling of lost opportunity because I really was waiting some deeper story and even more this philosophic pondering about body, existence and identity. While the story brings these things up I did not like or care too much of supporting storylines, which although matter but mostly they are just nonsense with poor writing and moreover the chat windows for minor characters is not the most effective way to build tension or emotion. The game's story imo could have been so much better with live characters with voices feeling shame, anger, grit, happiness and joy. I also felt that some characters were written in just to add some so obvious stereotype of over conservative parent or a rich bully and the dialogue just made me sneer rather than getting deeply into. That alas is a huge shame for ending part again is quite good and warming, but it could have been so much better if that journey into that time and place'd have offered more.

In gameplay aspect it's very medicore platformer with the light puzzle designs, but I did find the gore theme very unique and an original and a bit pervert feature to actually hurt yourself to get further and solving puzzles takes the cake. Sometimes the game can even punish you by making clarification that you could have gotten past something without severing your limbs or cracking your skull. In the end this won't matter too much for protagonist can heal herself back to normal, but I have to say that every mistake I made during this game felt much more grim than any other platformer.

This self harm plays huge part in the game and I felt that its presence was one of the best feats in the game technically but especially in storytelling aspect - for the pain can be and is a metaphor about something else.. If I should recommend this game for anybody I'd say those beautiful people and souls who struggle with identity or have a crisis in their existence. I have read some other reviews and I do have a positive impression that this game possibly can offer some support and courage to push forth in life. The Missing J.J. Macfield and the Island of Memories ain't truely the best or most wholesome game in the market but I totally can see the potential it can offer to people if the timing is right. <3 The most powerful thing is love.

It's hard to say this isn't what I expected from a SWERY game. A bit of a coming of age story with, at first, a novel puzzle mechanic. Initially, the game would crash at certain parts on the deck with the latest proton, resolved it by using an earlier proton build but would still have glitches in the background art (Proton 7.0).

You quickly learn all the mechanics and the puzzles aren't very difficult. The decent story is trapped behind text messages and vague phone calls. I dunno, maybe I wasn't in the mood for it, but it didn't hook me in like DP and D4 did.

I think it was a mistake playing two SWERY games in a row.

I have been wanting to buy and play The Missing for what seems forever (probably since it was released on Steam) and am glad to have finally indulged myself after all these years.
In a way, it feels like a game I should have played years ago, when I was still getting into indie games, especially those focusing on queer narratives. It would probably have packed a bigger punch if I didn't have already quite a lot of other references. For example, The Missing heavily borrows from Limbo in its gameplay, and having played games like Celeste, If Found... or Get in the Car Loser certainly draws high points of comparison.

This being said, story-wise and level design-wise, JJ Macfield's adventures hold up really well. What seems simplistic at first comes around quite well once the player hits the ending and epilogue(s). The real problem, imho, stems from the commands, which are a bit clunky, and the way too long cutscenes that plays whenever JJ is injured (which is to say, all the time). First time around, it's grotesque and fun, but after 50+ times, I basically played on mute, lest poor JJ's screaming drove me insane in turn. I'm also quite intrigued by the choice made to have virtually no soundtrack bar a couple specific pieces here and there.

All of this is to say, if you're looking for a good LGBT+-focused game, The Missing has something good to offer, including great character design and a very convincing English localization/dub. But make sure you are ready to go through some 10 hours-ish sometimes tedious puzzle-solving/platforming first.

这个星期总算把近5年前的坑填补了, 在我第一次玩这游戏时甚至按照剧情流程为他写了同人小说(虽然只写了1w字左右就没继续玩了, 多半因为生理不适).
现在先来谈谈游戏玩法, 哪怕是几年后的今天重新玩这个游戏, 这独一份的"疼痛"玩法也是让我眼前一亮, 尽管在一些繁琐操作的地方十分坐牢, 再加上我本人也不太适合解密类游戏, 但这份体验绝对是独特的;
然后是游戏的"软实力", 我必须承认, 最初玩这游戏是被其精美的画风吸引, 也算是游玩的主要动力;音乐也十分出色, 在关键场景的插入极大提升了玩家的沉浸感, 但主角的配音有些突兀, 总体来说电影叙事的效果是达到了;
最后是剧情, 这里我不会直说所以不会涉及剧透, 游戏以收集donuts的形式来解锁额外剧情和画集(部分donuts推荐二周目再收集全), 这款精致的小游戏里几乎所有的要素都与主题表达息息相关, 手机短信的对话也十分接地气, 如果在通关后去回看, 会发现编剧藏了不少刀子...
就我个人而言, 经历过LGBTQ+、DEI的风波后的今天, 重新审视2018年的这款游戏, 给我的内在震撼是远远大于其形式的, 我觉得这才是传达不同思想与观点的最佳方式, 没有单方面的疯狂输出, 反而激发了玩家的主动思考与共鸣, 这是基于双方的respect基础上的合理表达, 一种艺术情绪.

words I have in relation to this game in no particular order:
- it made me care about the MC, so that's nice
- the unmangling animations could be quicker
- the background bugged out for me partway through the game and I only noticed it wasn't intentional around the finale
- nice relatable story
- makes me question Yahtzee's media literacy with his "I think it's about X" when it's very clearly about X

First splash screen is white text on black background, "This game was made with the belief that nobody is wrong for being what they are." If you disagree, fix your heart, for your own sake.

At some point late in, the warning from the second text splash will be very suddenly felt. You're almost there. Keep pushing through the epilogue, it will get better.

i... love this game so much. I have to agree with the other reviews saying to please play this game if you are trans. It's absolutely worth it. Otherwise, please watch a playthrough. This game needs to become better known.
The animations, sound design, and voice acting really made me feel how painful the gameplay was for J.J.... and the story hurt so much more. The queer themes felt well done here

This was the second SWERY game I have played and again it captured my heart in the least expected ways. It is completely unlike Deadly Premonition and yet it has similar strengths and weaknesses: controls and movement felt clunky, a few puzzles did not meet with my logic and a lot of smaller pieces of dialogue seemed like a miss to me but I would still recommend this game to all open-minded people because of the story and the feelings it gives. As seems to be usual with SWERY, a lot of the individual parts are flawed but it all comes together nicely in the end.

I would probably not recommend buying it at full price for someone who is not entirely sure what they are getting into as it is rather short (only a couple hours longer than my displayed play time) and it has the aforementioned issues, but it is certainly a beautiful experience and I feel richer for having played it.

稱讚一下畫技不是畫女硬說男破關後解鎖的新造型後還有全新配音用心
二周目除了自選章節還有移速加快透視自選創傷狀態補收集品時滿方便的
解謎不難反而是有時候想的太複雜而卡關
角色操控起來有點不連續或者說動作銜接慢但不到卡手
還有存檔點不夠人性化不過重來花的時間也不多技術要求也不會太變態倒是還好

BOSS戰時滿感動的雖然不是性別不安的族群但還是滿有代入感的
可能是因為每個人都有自己的心魔要打敗吧

如果討厭或是害怕血腥獵奇風格的話，請務必跳過此遊戲，因為遊玩過程會伴隨大量的此類內容。
但我個人是非常喜歡的。

透過主角的不同肢體部位解謎的設計十分出彩，而且謎題總是會讓我不禁讚嘆「原來還可以這樣啊」
美術風格非常迷人，而對於血腥獵奇的描寫也毫不客氣，但帶有幾分日系的浪漫色彩(特別是設定圖的部分，真香)
劇情部分，對於主角心境的描寫、發展、轉折跟最後的揭密都十分優秀，結尾就彷彿是一柄大槌狠狠地敲在心靈上，然後再溫柔地治癒。如果我是有類似經歷的人，或是淚腺再脆弱一些，大概會忍不住哭出來吧

缺點大概就是售價有些貴，還有部分操作沒有那麼順手，但如果是喜歡欣賞劇情以及不排斥血腥獵奇要素解謎的玩家的話，十分推薦在特價時入手

ちょっと前のゲームみたいですが、何ということか買ったことさえ忘れていました。今回ライブラリに埋もれていたのを見つけたのでやってみました。
おすすめにはしましたが、とりあえずこれからやろうという方は、このゲームのシステムやテーマが独特なのでちょっと調べてからやる方が良いかもです。決して万人受けするゲームとは言えないと思います。

さて、操作に関してですが、クリアだけを目指すのではなくドーナツも全部集めるつもりでやるとなるとそれなりに大変です。まあ、パズルを解きながら進んでいく感じなのですが、中には、これでいいの？みたいなスッキリしないのもあったりしました。パズルが簡単だという方もおられますが、私は割と苦労しました。もしかしたら中には詰んでしまう人もいるかもしれません。
それと暗闇での操作はイライラするし、サルに行く手は阻まれるし、ハンドルがうまく回らないし、まさに死にゲーだし、いろいろと、むかつくことも多かったです。途中で止めた人もおられることでしょう。ですが、とにかく是非クリアしていただき、エンディングを見て欲しいと私は思うのです。

さて、残りのドーナツを探しに二周目に出かけるとします。。。

追記　一つだけ実績解除出来ませんでしたが、ドーナツは全部集めたので終わりにしました。
やっぱ良いゲームです。やって良かったです。

A strong and nuanced narrative of a queer young student's struggles with her family, friends, and school life told through her phone conversations and a brutal nightmare that forces her to tear herself apart, set herself on fire, and flee horrifying monsters to progress and hopefully find what she's been missing.

THE MISSING has some of the realest, most painfully relatable conversations in video games and I cried multiple times. It's not an easy story but it is increasingly needed in today's world, especially for those people who maybe don't understand what it's like being isolated and afraid, or have forgotten what it's like being a teenager who's "different".

The platforming and puzzling is clever and each chapters comes with new ideas and ways to implement the mechanic of hurting yourself to tear yourself apart. Throw your arm to hit a thing out of your reach. Set yourself on fire to spread the blaze and clear a pathway. Become just a head and roll through tiny gaps. You can regenerate at any time, but it still always hurts.

And you FEEL that hurt. The visual effect of being hurt (tastefully veiled by JJ turning to shadow and her blood splattering white) is just horrible enough to never grow old, and her screams will stick with me forever.

THE MISSING comes highly recommended. It's well worth playing or, if playing it yourself sounds too stressful, check out LuckyBun's play through and commentary YouTube.

Finished to credits in about 7-8 hours.

독창성: 아름다운 소녀가 여렇게 저렇게 마구 잘리고 꺾이는 대체 이게 무슨 특이취향용 게임이냐라는 생각이 들게 되지만, 이 또한 게임의 스토리와 관련된 상징적 요소로, 이 잔혹함을 스토리로 개연성을 맞추고, 재생을 이용한 퍼즐을 통해 다른곳에서는 쓰지 못한 독창적인 퍼즐을 완성해냈습니다.

그래픽: 광표현이 아름답고, 디자인 요소도 수준높지만, 그중에서도 가장 극찬할 부분은 스토리를 배경과 디자인에 잘 녹여내어, 스토리를 그래픽을 통해서도 이입하고 이해할 수 있게 해준다는겁니다. 이게임에서, 허투로 쓰인것보다 의미를 가진것이 더 많습니다.

사운드: 사운드 또한 그래픽처럼 스토리에 몰입과 이해를 드높이는 역할을 잘 해내어주었지만, 더빙이 좀 많이 아쉽습니다.

스토리: 비록 플탐은 짧지만, 연출적 구성은 천재적이며, 진행순서 또한 복잡해보이면서도, 극단으로 치닿을 수록 모든게 이해되고, 반전요소가 머리를 강타하게 해줍니다. 또한 게임의 모든 요소가 스토리를 강조하고, 이어지게 하기에, 거의 완벽에 가깝습니다만.. 후반부 가장 중요한 극복 파트를 너무 짧게 가져간 문제가 있다고 생각합니다.

레벨디자인: 문제가 많습니다. 일단 재생 기믹은 처음에는 참신하지만, 퍼즐의 파훼법이 거의 비슷한 문제가 있으며, 늘어지는 파트가 은근 있어 지루함을 유발하고, 그렇다고 플탐이 긴것도 아니니.. 스토리의 참신함을 레벨디자인이 받쳐주지 못하고 있습니다.

조작감: 최악입니다. 지금까지 최악의 조작감이라고 할만한 게임들은 그래도, 키보드로 조작이 된다거나 했지만,이작품은 패드가 아니면 플레이가 불가능할 정도의 조작감을 선사합니다. 최악의 이식이라고 생각들며, 그러면 패드를 들면 낫냐고 하면, 미끄러지는듯한 형용하기 힘든 불쾌한 조작감은 남아있습니다.

이젠 함부로 이야기 하기 힘든 주제를 잘 다뤄낸 게임임과 동시에, 제대로 생각하고 연출했다는것이 보입니다만... 앞서 말했듯 고통의 무게, 고통의 원인등은 잘 표현해놓고, 정작 극복을 너무 아쉽게 넘어갔습니다.

평범한 이들이 레일밖 사람들의 고통을 이해하는것에는 도움을 주지만, 그 레일밖 사람들에게 제대로된 해답을 전달하지는 못한것이 너무나도 아쉽게 느껴집니다.

La historia es una pasada, jugablemente es horrible. Aún así, juégalo. Muy recomendable.

Es una historia de superación, encontrarte y sentirte bien contigo mismo. Al final te das cuenta del plot twist y boom, magia.

Los controles y las físicas son horribles, pero fíjalo a 60 FPS y la mayoría de bugs se corrigen. El control será igual de malo, pero no tendrás que estar escuchando "Emiiiilyyyyy, where are u?", "who's there?" y "uuuuuh hooooo" cada vez que quieras interactuar con algo.
