It's a good game but different you get to be both doctor and Detective. I don't like how I have to ask the questions exactly because it's pre-programmed that way. Can go in circles and use a HINT just to see that the question was written another way.

Fragen stellen, zuhören, kombinieren - und die Wahrheit suchen. Das Gameplay dreht sich vollständig um Gespräche mit den Patient*innen des verstorbenen Dr. Dekker. Du formulierst eigene Fragen (per Texteingabe oder Auswahl), lenkst die Gespräche und entscheidest selbst, welchen Spuren du folgst. It's a pretty unique FMV and the atmosphere was just right. It felt satisfying to question all the patients and hear out all of their backstories. One thing that might have been lacking though is visual variety, since it's 12+ hours of looking at patients on a couch. Best to play in shorter sessions, one act at a time.

This game is so hugely underrated. It initially takes a bit to get into but it has so much depth in regards to content and diversity - it's awesome. Played it through multiple times and each time it was great as depending on how you approach interactions, you get totally different outcomes.
It can get a little finicky when it comes to the particularness of key words in the questions you ask, but if you approach that as a 'okay, I just need to ask better questions' rather than 'unless you use exact keywords, this is dumb' you enjoy it way more.
Been looking for a game like this ever since I first discovered it. Would totally recommend.

The acting was very good and I thought the characters and the story were interesting. The only issue was that I had to ask the questions in a very specific way in order to get answers out of the characters, which resulted in me using hints more times than I would have wanted. This got a little irritating after some time, plus i found the ending to be a little anticlimatic. Overall though, it was a pleasant experience.

Amazing!!!
The best therapist game i have played at the moment (This really is an interactive adventure more than a videogame)
Very good actors and actresses. Very believable performance from each and every one of them. Every character is unique with his own psyche.
The narrative is dual. You learn about the patients mind and try to resolve the murder of your predecessor.
I can't wait for part 2. Great discovery.

Well... that was a game I played.

It wasn't terrible. I enjoyed the ride I guess.

I'll admit this is the 1st FMV I have ever played and there was certainly an adjustment, a learning period to figure out how to play the game. I never got very good at stating the questions, and used something like 600 hints because I was tired of having the right question, but not phrasing it correctly. Maybe that's specific to this game - due to its circumstances and premise?

It was interesting, tho I felt a tiny bit anticlimactic. I guess there are different endings right - maybe I just got a boring one. I think I'll play more of these types of games in the future, I am curious to see what else they can do with this genre.

Хорошая задумка с рандомизированным видео-квестом, обломанная абсолютно провальным техническим исполнением. Вместо гибкой системы подачи информации через иммерсивный диалог, выходит унылое перекликивание подсказок или монотонный подбор ключевых слов, схожий с тягомотным пиксельхантингом в убогих point-n-click квестах.

Идея для воплощения рандомизированного детектива через низкобюджетные видеовставки, снятые в одной статичной декорации с несколькими разными актерами-любителями – это, как минимум, смело. Если свести все к технической части – для игры записали бесчисленное множество коротких видеовставок, которые должны были покрывать все важные ветки диалогов с игроком, а все непредусмотренные реплики встречают одну из записанных заглушек.
И всё бы ничего, актеры стараются, сюжет, вроде бы, не слишком избит – несколько занятных историй от людей с психическими расстройствами, с легким налетом мистики… если бы не одно НО.
Для доступа к сюжету предусмотренна система общения с персонажами через натуральный диалог – вы вводите ключевые слова и предложения, а они отвечают заготовленными ответами. Иногда отвечать приходится уже игроку, причем развернуто – не сухое “Да” или “Нет”, а с упоминанием темы вопроса. И эта часть игры наглухо всрата до такой степени, что играть в такое просто не хочется. Почему? Потому что система ни разу не гибкая и не поддерживает реальный разговор. Если игра ожидает от вас конкретного вопроса — вы должны его написать, зачастую, С ТОЧНОСТЬЮ ДО БУКВЫ. Тут не то, что опечатка, тут даже пропуск артикля или перестановка слов могут сломать распознавание вопроса и игра будет отнекиваться, ставя заглушку. Часть вопросов очень однообразна и можно случайно пропустить один из ответов и попасть в середину обсуждения, часть наоборот — несколько разных вопросов будет вести в один ответ. Это плохо поддается логике, сильно раздажает и сбивает с толку.
И при всей заявленной гибкости и попытке в иммерсивность — персонажи абсолютно не способны выбраться хоть немного за пределы рамок. На невинный вопрос «Где вы родились?» и подобные этому на нас будут лупать глазами мертвой воблы и талдычить «Ой, а я не знаю!!!», что разрушает всякое погружение и электронные болванчики теряют остатки правдоподобности и тяги к сопереживанию им.

Ухудшает дело ужасный, неудобный интерфейс, с крайне абстрактными обозначениями и не имеющий хорошего упорядочивания. Казалось бы — отделите ветки ответов по персонажам, но нет — всё будет сваленно в одну кучу. Заметки — ворох из одновременно туториала, сообщений от NPC и заметок самого ГГ, причем заметки делаются рандомно и не очень ясно – заметка появилась, потому что это реально важная деталь, или просто так сложилось. На них нельзя полагаться, приходится делать свои. Добивает UX дурацкая система оповещения о ачивках во весь экран.
Движок игры, судя по быстрым наблюдениям о файлах игры – это браузерная гадость, написанная на богомерзком жабаскрипте, что только добавляет хтонического ужаса от происходящего.

В текущее время, очевидным решением большинства озвученных проблем было бы подключение игры к нейросетке, которая дала бы какую-то минимальную гибкость хотя бы распознованию вопросов, если уж не ответам на них (хотя и такое можно соорудить). Я искренне считаю нейросети раком индустрии и всячески порицаю их применение, но вот именно в данном проекте происходит тот случай, когда они были бы очень к месту.
В итоге, чисто за старания актеров, я готов поставить игре…

Amazing! The story and especially the acting kept me hooked the entire time! I really cared about the patients and their lives (but, it is also funny to try to drive them even more insane).

What other people say is definitely true: It's nearly impossible to "guess" what you're supposed to ask, but that's what the hints are for. No shame in abusing that, if it helps you enjoy the game.

I haven't played many FMV games - just Her Story before this one. This game is all right if a little weird. You submit questions through a textbox, but if you select one of the options that's presented, that counts as a hint. To be honest, I think the suggestions shouldn't count as hints as often I selected them because the questions I asked got a null response - likely because I was asking them too early or wasn't asking them in the right way.

In any case, I think this game is worth playing. It isn't very long, but it was enjoyable while it lasted. This is an FMV games, but I don't actually think the video does anything. This game probably could've been an interactive audio game, although I don't think such things exist.

Very cool concept, but I agree with the negative reviews. The game really wants you to ask very specific questions and is not intuitive at all. You can know that you caught a character in a contradiction, but you can never express it as the game wants you to.

Great game. The atmosphere is very well done, and the characters are interesting, with weird and unhinged stories. I got the murderer right on the first guess, but the culprit is randomly generated each time, so I don't know how easy it generally is or if I just got lucky. Either way, great game.

The gameplay will inherently be a little clunky, and there's not really anything the devs could have done about that because they can't film responses for every possible question. You can rewatch patient statements for clues, and if the patient says something along the lines of "you're asking too many questions at once," you know you have two keywords in one input. After a while, I started mostly just repeating keywords the patients had said rather than asking real questions. If you're totally stuck, you can also get direct hints, so you'll never be unable to move forward.

The other problem is that the game has low replayability. Sure, there are a number of different endings, but there's little variation in the game up until the endings, so the motivation to go through everything again is low. But that doesn't change the fact that it's a great game. I just watched the other endings in a YouTube compilation. I definitely recommend playing this game at least once.

One of the best, unique and innovating FMV games I've ever played. The story is riveting and intriguing. The acting is superb mostly, a few misses, but only minor.
You are a therapist replacing the former one Dr. Dekker who has been murdered. And now as you inherit his patients, while trying to help them you must solve the question, who murdered Dr. Dekker? the game has multiple endings and changing killers so a new playthrough is a new experience.
The gameplay is done via writing questions. To progress in the game you must find all the text prompt questions. This can be difficult at times, not knowing which word or phrase to focus on, and can lead you to get stuck at places wondering what is the correct question.
I do highly recommend this game to anyone who likes a good mystery and especially for people who like FMV games.

I wish there was a way to give this a neutral rating. I am still not sure if I actually like this game. I bought this due to the really high reviews. The acting is really good and the dialogue is funny but I am not sure I quite like the style of it. You click to ask the patients different questions and they play a short video of their responses. This is very different from other FMV's that I have played before.

I think I prefer the style that is more like a movie rather than tiny clips.

The Infectious Madness of Doctor Dekker has you playing as the therapist who has replaced the recently deceased Doctor Dekker. With a mystery murderer, and a list of clients who need help, you try and put all the pieces together to figure out what really happened. With lots of philosophy, clues, and story, this game has many twists and turns. A great game to try and solve :)

Achievements are mainly gotten from playing the story multiple times, so I would recommend to complete a playthrough before focusing on them. They achievements are quite simple, and bring a lot replayability, so enjoy the game however you want to do so. Some achievements are time-based, but you can alter your save with notepad easily if you don't want to drag it out too much.

in all seriousness: its exactly what i wanted from a game growing up, pre generative AI. sure sometimes you get stuck in a rut of getting the same "idk" answer, but honestly its so fun and goofy typing different key words only to have them be confused. the different paths you can take are pretty vastly different + honestly the storylines you can follow are intriguing as hell

this is the game that got me into FMVs and i cannot speak highly enough of it. this is one of my go to recommendations, its so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ insane that you NEED to play it multiple times to fully Get Whats Happening

EDIT [24/02/2026] : Coming back to once again say, worth the replays. the sequel will be coming out this year and the demo is out now. when the demo released i actually dropped everything and screamed. no game has me more invested in the next installment than this. truly peak game design and storytelling.

This is an ambitious, experimental FMV murder mystery that embraces the uncanny. It's eerie, thoughtful, occasionally awkward, but consistently compelling if you’re patient enough to wade through its quirks.

Игра, где мы в роли психолога, пришедшего на место ранее убитого коллеги, общаемся с пациентами, один из которых, судя по всему, нашего предшественника и прикончил. И, вроде как, оказались мы тут неспроста, и общаемся со всеми не что бы им помочь, а чтобы выяснить кто убийца.

Общение происходит как в древних квестах, в которых все команды нужно было вводить самому. Тут, соответственно, вводим вопросы. Но уж не знаю как с оригинальной английской версией (хотя есть отзывы говорящие что и там реализовано не лучшим образом), но с русской (она официальная, но в бете, из которой, видимо, уже не выйдет), в том виде в котором она есть - играть невозможно. В лучшем случае игра понимала одну из четырех-пяти моих фраз, при том что прикалываться, после пары попыток, я даже не пытался. Пишу что-то соответствующее ситуации, использую ключевые слова - моя твоя не понимать.

Есть меню где фразы можно выбирать (в обучении сказано на это тратятся некие подсказки, чего не заметил), но сложилось впечатление, будто для продвижения по сюжету нужно выбрать абсолютно каждую оттуда, в любом порядке. Ни о каком отыгрыше роли речи не идет.

Еще очень не понравился видеоряд. Казалось бы - мы сидим в кресле, перед нами наш пациент, который тоже просто сидит, моргает, чешется периодически, ногу с ноги перекладывает. Когда нам отвечают - так и есть. Но пока мы думаем или выбираем что сказать демонстрируется будто сон с воспоминаниями. Вот клиент сидит, в следующем кадре, полупрозрачный, ходит по комнате, вот лежит, вот сидит в другой позе. Просто хаотичная смена кадров, которая нужное настроение вообще не создает.

A cool idea, but not executed too well. It's a bit too open-ended for my completionist brain. You interact with the characters through an open text entry box (there are some suggestions from the game, but not much; there's also hints, but I have too big of a gamer ego to use them - feels like cheating). I just end up spamming potential keywords to try to figure out how to 100% a conversation (via brute force), and some of the key words are not obvious and somewhat moon logic-esque, where you have to think exactly the same way the creators were thinking when writing the dialog to know what to say.

As much as I admire the creativity of the project and the amazing work of the actors, I cannot recommend this game. At least not to people like me who cannot move on without getting a 100% while being explicitly told that they still have uncovered dialog remaining.

At first I wasn't into it, but the more question you asked the more interesting it get.
I have done only two playthrough so far but I'm already thinking of doing a 3rd one. The murderer is chosen randomly at the start of the game.

[spoiler]During my first playthrough I was very close from finding the murderer. My first choice was Elin, since she's a nurse it's easy for her to get medicine. She also baked some cookies with medicinal ''herbs'' and it's easy for her to switch to someone else, so I thought maybe she can easily switch to Jaya and kill doctor Dekker but it wasn't her. My 2nd choice was Jaya it's very easy to access anything from the doctor when you are his assistant, also she keeps talking about Psychokinesis and pushing the blame on Marianna so for me it was getting more and more obvious and in my first playthough it was Jaya.

The 2nd one I had Marianna.

I'm about 40% of the way through and I think the setup makes no real sense, the exploration of characters is engaging and the weaving of the storylines is compelling.

The two things I don't like:

1) Sometimes things have to be phrased in a certain way, so resorting to "hint" often results in "I ALREADY TRIED THAT!" only to use slightly different words or word combinations and you don't feel the same reward from being clever that you would have otherwise.

2) Every actor in this game does a fantastic job - some beyond fantastic - but I find myself constantly annoyed with Jaya, and pretty much hated her from the start. I hate to blame the actress and I'm more inclined to put that on direction. Every time she talks, I want to tell her to shut up. There's too much frisky attitude in a secretary. Nobody in her position who is having to deal with all of this mess would be as bouncy and "full of personality". She acts like an actress. And if this is key to solving the mystery, then it's bad writing.

It's a very interesting game that shows you several interesting stories of interesting people. A lot of them.. okay, all of them is kind of strange and maybe scray? It depends on you if you view their stories as something mythical or rather rationally and suspicously, because a few of them can ahve hidden motives behind their lies.

Overall it's a game that makes you want to play it and even when you don'T you will cach myself thinking about it. Something that could make the game better is obviously the question mechanism... as most of the negative opinions describe it well. So I can truly recommend this game to the people who are like me: if you aren't obsessed with achievments, don't mind if you have to the so called "hints' (which are mostly just question options) and are interested about the story rather than trying to 100% it first try; then buy it, you will like it. :)

This FMV novel is the most enigmatic experience I've ever had. It’s incredibly gripping and continuously leaves you questioning everything: Who is the killer? Do your patients possess mysterious powers? Or are we the crazy ones?
The performances are superb, and with a sequel scheduled for 2025, I'm really looking forward to playing more games from this developer in the near future.

Enjoyed other games in this genre, so decided it would be fun too. Actually it turned out to be more frustrating due to guess picking questions than actually building some kind of dialogue where you deliberately choose what to ask. Because you need to ask in specific phrases in specific order and in specific part of the game. For example, I asked one of my patients about her parents, how and when they died. She refused to answer. Later in the next act I click on hints and there were my questions about parents. At some moment I just give up and start using hints all the time, though usually I don't use any hints.
Another thing that ruin dialogue is artificially cutted answers: "and then i hear that...", "...but i have a secret...", "I see her(don't know who)..." and many others. You need to ask last word in every that moment. In reality if person starts to say something, he/she usually finish his thought. At least sentence. Otherwise you don't even start to say a thing about. And interface could be more visible, because you don't easily see what marks are at patients answers in your notebook and mouse cursor too.

Stylish game with a lot of work put in, but you constantly guessing what was an intended way of asking questions

This may not be a popular review given the positive reviews....however I feel the points I make are justified.

IMODD is a very ambitious game, an FMV where you actually type in the questions. The problem here is you have to type them in the right way, and another thing is it says youve asked a question already, even though the one youre asking is completely different to the one you asked before. Example "do you like the beach?" , was a question I asked, then I asked "do you live near the beach?" and "how far is the beach?" it stated I already asked that question......but "do you like the beach" is hardly the same as "do you live near the beach?" or "how far is the beach" both of which are relevant questions. Also the hints are often ludicrous "Do you believe in Valhalla" When we werent talking about anything remotely relevant to it. Then theres my main gripe.......a hint will come up stating "why did you go out for drinks with doctor dekker" When I had already asked "did dekker ever take you for drinks"? to which she replied "I dont drink".......but then the game hints to ask "why did you go out for drinks with doctor dekker"..and she replied with something else, even though earlier I asked and every time I tried asking again it stated I already asked it....the immersion is completely broken.

A really bad one is when she states "I like that club because they have cheap vodka shots" ..... later she states she doesnt drink....so theres a comtradiction and I stated "why did you say you dont drink but you go for cheap vodka shots?" and no matter how I said it, it stated I had already asked that question.

The game is a good idea.....but heavily flawed

An FMV game and my third one in the genre, but its progress system felt different. The gameplay revolves around asking questions, but I eventually gave up and decided to let the game run idle just to farm trading cards.

While the concept is intriguing, the mechanics and lack of guidance made it more of a chore than an engaging experience. Adding to this, the background is weird, with characters moving around in absurd and awkward ways that make the whole experience feel ridiculous.

Despite the majority of players enjoying this game (with 83% of reviews being positive by the time I am writing this), I couldn’t bring myself to like it, let alone enjoy it. The slow progression was a major turn-off for me. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not a horrible game, there’s definitely a great concept here. I appreciate the idea of free text input, but unfortunately, it just doesn’t work as well as I’d hoped. Only very specific words seem to trigger responses, and the conversations end up feeling more like talking to Cleverbot than an actual engaging dialogue.

It’s just not my cup of tea, which is why I have to give it a thumbs down. The potential is there, but the execution didn’t click for me.

[spoiler]Aslında her oyunda değişen katil fikri ilgi çekici olsa da bence kesinlikle dezavantajlı bir durum olmuş. Çünkü hikaye yaklaşık olarak aynı çizgide ilerlediği için katil değişse bile her oyunda ufak değişiklikler ve yuvarlak cümleler haricinde majör değişiklik göremiyoruz. Oyun bize katili bulmak için gerekli olan net detayları ve ipuçlarını vermiyor. Bu yüzden de katil kim olursa olsun motivasyonları asla yeterli gelmiyor.
Oyunun sonunda katili bulamadım, tahmin bile edemedim... Yorumlara baktığım zaman katili neredeyse herkes benim gibi 3. veya 4. tahminininde bulmuş. Oyunda zaten 6 şüpheli var.....[/spoiler]

Не первая моя игра в подобном жанре (FMV, игра-интерактивное кино), однако достойная и интересная.

[i]Для понимания: первый раз я бросила игру на акте 4, но (спустя год) вернулась и начала заново. Игра пройдена за 16 часов, со всеми закрытыми опциями диалогов, но с угадыванием виновника только с 4ой попытки. Концовку оценить не могу, но она явно не самая хорошая, для большинства пациентов.[/i]

Итак, [h3] плюсы игры:[/h3]
1) Увлекательная детективная составляющая (затянуло так, что я составляла таблицу по подозрительностям и мотивам), хорошо сочетающаяся с форматом фильма (актеры - молодцы, в их "личности" веришь и ... подозреваешь всех!).
2) Множественность концовок, которые зависят от совокупности факторов (ваше взаимодействие/советы пациентам + ваш уровень "безумия", набираемый скрытно + рандомно выпавший вам виновник).
3) Понятный геймплей (печатаешь вопросы пациентам, а они отвечают, опираясь на "услышанные" ключевые слова; знакомишься с уликами).
4) Внезапные и уместные скримеры (= попытки персонажей срочно передать/сказать тебе что-то).
5) Наличие интересных фактов из психологии (получилось немного просветиться!) + элементов мифологии/оккультизма.
6) Отсылочки (например, очевидная - к The Shining).

А теперь [h3] о минусах[/h3] (вполне конкретных):

1) Длительность игры и ее механика "печати Страдамуса":)

Игра ощущается долгой. И нет, дело не столько в часах, затрачиваемых на ее прохождение (8-16). Она именно тягомотная, особенно если ы играешь в нее "залпом" (а ты хочешь играть в нее "залпом", поверь! Иначе ничего не вспомнишь потом, никаких алиби и улик). Так, если первых пару актов тебе еще забавно печатать множественные вопросы пациентам целыми предложениями и угадывать, какую деталь надо уточнить, то уже к середине игры ты ограничиваешься вкидыванием ключевых слов или абьюзом команды hint. Почему? Потому что руки отваливаются столько печатать.

2) Система ответов героев по ключевым словам + система подсказок:

Разумеется, делаем скидку на то, что подобные механики в целом сложны для реализации в играх (и эта игра - один из первопроходцев, пытающихся в иммерсивность и "живость" интеракций). Но ты волей-неволей начинаешь раздражаться, когда подсказка подсвечивает вопрос, который ты уже сто тысяч раз пытался задать пациенту, но ЧУТЬ в иной формулировке. А потому пациент упрямо твердит, что ничегошеньки про это не знает ([i]как не знаешь, ты же до этого рассказал об этом происшествии???[/i]). А еще часты ситуации, когда ты нечаянно заключаешь в вопросе "слишком много" ключевых слов.... и не знаешь при этом, как разделить этот вопрос на составляющие/ убрать лишний триггер, чтобы получить внятный ответ.

3) Обилие вторичной информации, которая только мешает найти виновника:

Тут тоже следует оговориться: в детективных играх, безусловно, ничто не будет преподноситься на блюдечке, и нужно пораскинуть мозгами на предмет расхождений в показаниях подозреваемых. Но лично у меня возникло ощущение, что в этой игре слишком много откровенно побочной информации (особенно, если задавать все-все вопросы до "зеленой звездочки" - а как их не задавать в первом прохождении, когда боишься упустить тончайшие нюансы?). При этом, узнать, кто же конкретно в этом прохождении назначен убивцем, можно по довольно очевидным пунктам [spoiler] (и наличию/отсутствию/ложности алиби)[/spoiler]. А когда ты проходишь игру впервые (искренне не понимая, почему так ошибся, ведь у всех [spoiler] был мотив, возможности и шероховатости/ложь в рассказах [/spoiler]), ты уже отчетливо видишь, что поменялось в ответах героев и в их версиях (а меняются, опять же, одни и те же "флаги"). Казалось бы: это делает игру реиграбельной! Но тут смотрим на пункты 1 и 2 "минусов" игры и ... :)

4) Не очень удачное раскрытие концовок:

Я до сих пор не могу до конца понять, ЧТО у меня за концовка. Я прекрасно поняла каждое слово, но совсем не осознала, на что мне намекают в финальном трейлере с [spoiler]профессором Алдербай[/spoiler]. Возможно, другие концовки очевиднее, но... это очень смазало впечатление, т к не произошло полного раскрытия карт.
С концовками пациентов дела обстоят лучше (и то, по полученной мной концовке Марианны я так и не поняла, удалось ли мне ей помочь или нет). Однако, странно, что вы не увидите "конец" того человека, который окажется виновным.

5) Невнятность стата безумия (insanity):

Сама идея с накоплением безумия мне очень нравится. Однако, в игре вообще не очевидно, когда и за какой выбор тебе это безумие начисляется. Например, [spoiler]когда Клэр спрашивает нас, убить ли ей своего супруга второй раз, наш ответ "да" буквально можно истолковать как адекватный совет в духе "отпусти его, ведь он уже мертв. Не воскрешай его у себя в голове, ты в безумии". Но это, оказывается, безумный выбор, хотя речь об уже мертвом человеке - плоде воображения[/spoiler].

В целом же, пусть это безумие накапливается тайно (без демонстрации нам явной шкалы). Это даже плюс. Хотя всплывающие ачивки в духе "вы накопили ХХХ безумия" тут ломают идею:)

[h3] Кому эта игра понравится:[/h3]
1) усидчивым людям, которые любят вчитываться (и читать между строк), анализировать и сопоставлять факты.
2) любителям визуальных новелл, где от твоего выбора реально зависит концовка игры.
3) отчаянным ребятам, которые находят в себе силы перепроходить игры, чтобы получить разный опыт/выйти на разные концовки и вывести закономерности их получения.
4) обожателям детективов, где до последнего неясно - у всего есть логическое объяснение, или здесь затесалась мистика...

[h3] Кому эта игра НЕ подойдет:[/h3]
1) тем, кто быстро теряет интерес к монотонным действиям/ механикам игры
2) людям, плохо знающим язык игры (в моем случае - английский)
3) тем, кто не готов тратить 8+ часов на то, чтобы получить ответы на свои вопросы
4) юристам, криминалистам и прочим въедливым профессионалам (это шутка, господа, но вы рискуете, как и я, уползти в дебри мельчайших деталей и несовпадений в ответах и мотивах и пропустить ключевые флаги, указывающие на виновного)

The game is spectacular. I have finished act one and started part of the two but I'm getting more and more hooked. The characters are very unique and the story is crazy. Despite being a little annoying to play it with the steamdeck because of the keyboard issue, I don't care because I'm very hooked on the story. Highly recommended.

In addition, the way in which they have generated the clues is wonderful, either repeating the scene of an answer to detect clues writted with italic letters or questions to answer with yes or no in bold and having the clue of the asterisks to continue investigating around this thread.

Edit: I’ve noticed that sometimes u need to reask the question with differents words (example: question using pics did not give me an answer but it did using photos) or u need to rewrite the question using another kind of words that do not interfere with another answer and sometimes this is a bit annoying.

Edit 2: I must admit that I have used a save so as not to have to repeat the game infinite times for certain achievements, despite the fact that in each attempt the killer can change and that controlling sanity creates different endings.

Despite everything this game is a d*mn masterpiece.

A nice mix of FMV and conversational adventure, so if you like those kinds of games, or are curious about them, you'll probably enjoy this one. The acting is REALLY good; each character has their own, unique personality and secrets you'll have to uncover. I was totally immersed in the mystery at hand, and was a blast to try to uncover what twisted thing was going on here. At some points, as in any conversational adventure, I failed because I wasn't writing EXACTLY what the game wanted, but it is very forgiving in giving you help and letting you advance through the main plot line without getting completely stuck. Really enjoyable, but you have to be interested in this things, it's not for everyone.

A really fun FMV game. It's kind of like SIMULACRA or Her Story, but the questioning mechanic is quite unique. It's fun finding enough information, but keep in mind that, as the game warns you, trying to 100% the characters is very difficult and could "drive you mad". If you want to do that, just use a guide. When playing, I would first do as much question as could on my own to get enough information to advance and then, once my ideas dried up, I would use a guide to get all the remaining answers. That allowed me to have the fun of gathering the key info myself, while also not missing anything.

I will say that I wasn't a huge fan of the "guess the killer part" at the end because some of the solutions require massive logical leaps. Throughout the game, you are allowed to decide for yourself if the patients are delusional or if they can actually do the things that they claim they can. Then at the end, the game makes that choice for you. The problem with that is the logical choice for the killer will be dramatically different depending on whether you think the killer is a normal person or if you think they have supernatural powers. I wish the game would pick a lane so that I know if I'm picking the killer using real world logic or supernatural game logic, but the game waffles on this enough to make it unclear by the end. That makes things more murky than they need to be.

Still, flaws aside, I greatly enjoyed most of my time with the game, so, even though I think they dropped the ball a bit at the end, I still give it a strong recommendation.

The Infectious Madness of Doctor Dekker is a solid detective game with many possible outcomes. I primarily bought this game because I am a therapist and I love detective games so I felt that it was a nice blend of my career and my interests. I'm always leery of FMV games, but this is very well done. Dr. Dekker doesn't struggle with phrasing and will give the player a lot of leeway with how you ask questions. You can even be playful with it. At one point I decided to quote a scene from the Big Lebowski and I had some pretty comical results. "Do you see what happens, Larry? Do you see what happens when you..." The bottom line here, you will get a lot of replay value and the characters, while as a counselor I find them insufferable (Jaya), as a gamer I find them fun to explore. The achievements can be tedious so if you're an achievement hunter, beware. The story is solid and the game is a nice spin on detective games. I'd give this a 3.5/5 in total.

I really wanted to like this and it's clear a lot of love and hard work went into this, but there certain things that made this really unenjoyable for me to play.

Firstly, the UI is pretty terrible. It can be difficult to see which of the questions are marked with green asterisks and the cursor is tiny with a color that's really difficult to see.

Secondly, while I don't mind the gameplay format of asking questions, there aren't enough logic trees on what responses you can trigger. Huge spoiler for the last chapter, but [spoiler]I triggered the responses for a character saying we "had fun" in her home last night in the middle of a line of questioning about her describing that same situation as a rape. Her tone shifted radically between the two responses because it was clear i was supposed to do all the "had fun" dialogue first, but missed a couple because they weren't required. It made the scene especially icky in a way that I don't think was intended.[/spoiler] There are other times that tone shifted rapidly or things felt out of order, but this was the most egregious example due to the subject matter.

Finally, I didn't know going into this game that the [spoiler]killer is randomized. If I had known that, I likely wouldn't have bought it. Randomized mysteries are really hard to pull off due to the amount of work in creating dialogue trees, and I don't think it was done well here. The killer for my playthrough was someone who had opportunity, but no real motive. I guess the motive was he was mad at Dekker, but... so was basically everyone.[/spoiler] This might have been excusable if the individual character plotlines felt like they went anywhere or had any kind of resolution, but they don't in my opinion.

I feel bad because I do think this game could have been good, but instead I found it really frustrating.

The Infectious Madness of Doctor Dekker es una suerte de aventura FMV procedimental, en la que debes encontrar al culpable de un asesinato, a través de una serie de entrevistas con los pacientes de un psiquiatra. La gracia del juego es que tú puedes escribir las preguntas que quieres hacerles a los pacientes/sospechosos, de manera que si empleas alguna de las palabras clave asociadas con un clip, podrás verlo. En este sentido, la progresión es muy similar a Her Story, lo cual es bueno. El único problema del juego es que, en última instancia, ni el misterio ni los personajes son especialmente interesantes.

Interview a bunch of people in various states of insanity in an attempt to help them deal with their issues whilst also trying to work out which one killed your predecessor.
It's fun, although the free-form question style does make it a challenge to find some answers. i personally suggest liberally using the hint system.

At first I was put off by the lousy 'parser' system, where there was no real freedom of questioning. The game wanted us to ask 'exact' questions according to what was programmed. For example, instead of responding to the question "why did I come to your house?" the game would only respond to "why was I there at your house last night?" Since the questioning system is not AI based, its understandable its like this. Ultimately, you will learn that the easiest way to move forward is only by using keywords, which is enough to get essential responses but not all them. This is justified by the game stating how 'verbal mirroring' is a technique which brings the patient to trust us and open us. It makes sense, but really is a poor excuse of game design. It didn't help that the UI was clunky and unattractive.

So, why did I continue to play all the way to the end. Engrossing, engaging, and just so interesting are the keywords. It's a murder mystery, but it is delivered in such a fashion that you are always wanting to hear more from the patients, who, were portrayed excellently by their actors/actresses. Seriously, the performance is worthy of an applause. I really got invested into the characters and wanted to learn everything about them. The eldritch themes just added to the atmosphere but made judgement hard. Why? Being a healthcare provider myself, I resonated with the main character, trying to determine whether my patients were really mentally ill or were really telling the truth, which was so fantastical. Was there really some eldritch reasoning behind the insanity or was it just plain insanity? It just stimulated my mind.

Keeping in mind this was a FMV game, which have a reputation for being B-grade type of movie games, this game was a cut above the rest. In fact, it was the cream of the crop. I bought it on the summer sale so that added to the taste. But for those of you who like murder-mystery and eldritch storytelling, this is a recommended FMV game.

This is a work that overcomes its small budget by judicious choices.

FMV games these days are always iffy. Without a huge location budget like The Beast Within, they tend to look cheap, like they were all shot in a warehouse or somebody's grandma's house. In Dr Dekker, the conceit is that you are a therapist, seeing patients, trying to find a killer, so the fact that there's only one set is a *feature*.

Investigation games are likewise hard to pull off. They often end up a facile multiple-choice quiz or a puzzle game. But here, the point of a therapist is to ask questions, so we get a text box to enter whatever we can think of. This is absolutely brilliant, and a huge amount of fun at parties. Writing absolutely ridiculous questions is hilarious and often still works. The depth of the mystery revealed is up to your memory and inquisitiveness. That more games don't employ this is shocking to me.

The story itself, and its cast of misfits, is wonderful. It may just be a pastiche of Lovecraft, but it works. Along with the the fact that one of them is the killer, I delighted in digging into their stories and trying to decide whether I thought they were magical or just crazypants.

Every playthrough had a different killer, with lines inserted here or there to clue you in on who it is. In my multiple playthroughs I never had trouble figuring it out, but that didn't make it any less fun to do.

great writing, lot's of ways to interpret whats going on, some great concepts my favourite being the double glazing haunting scene. The entire last day/visit was a let down but not bad enough to spoil the game.
Don't play this if you are dyslexic or have psychological issues.

"The Infectious Madness of Doctor Dekker" is like therapy, if your therapist had a habit of mysteriously dying and you had to solve the case. It's a game where you play detective to a bunch of patients who make even your most dysfunctional family gatherings seem normal.

The best part? You get to ask questions like "Have you seen any tentacles lately?" and "Do you believe in time travel or are you just bad with clocks?" It's like playing a game of Clue, but the suspects are all from Lovecraft's rejected novel drafts.

The graphics won't blow your mind, but the mind-bending plot will. Just when you think you've figured out who's crazy, someone else starts talking to their imaginary friend who just happens to be a tax auditor from the 1800s.

If you enjoy solving mysteries and have a twisted sense of humor, "The Infectious Madness of Doctor Dekker" is your prescription for a wild ride. Four out of five stars for making me question reality and my sanity in equal measure.

If you like feet then this game is amazing!

If you don't then it's a bit of mixed bag, the acting is very hammy but kind of alright, the atmosphere its pretty good and the multiple stories of the characters should leave enough intrigue for most players to enjoy. The major issue that's basically a game breaker is the UI that sucks so you bad that you end up constantly using the hint system until you might as well be just pressing a single button to continue.

this game should be a 5/10 but the game knows it so every time it gets a bit boring then one of the female characters wiggles their toes in your face so I'm giving this game 10/10.

Я прошла эту FMV и кажется мне пора в дурку.

Неожиданно крутой фильм. Честно, я ожидала артхаусный трэш. FMV про радиоведущих от этой же компании мне не понравилась, там я кстати впервые и увидела этот зелёный диван.

Для прохождения надо понимать английский на среднем уровне. Главный герой — психиатр неопределённого пола (но всё-таки более вероятно, что мужчина), цель — общаться с обязательными пациентами (двое мужчин, три женщины), с некоторыми эпизодическими и с ассистенткой.

Замес в том, что кто-то убил предшественника (доктора Деккера), а кто именно и что за «заразное безумие д-ра Деккера» в названии, можно узнать ближе к финалу.

Для продвижения по истории надо задавать вопросы из готового списка, а когда они кончатся — придумывать и писать свои. Это не страшно, т.к. есть система подсказок.

Игра заставляет ощущать себя… неуютно. Я действительно вжилась в шкуру психиатра, я сомневалась, поехавшие ли тут все или всё происходит по-настоящему. Проблема в том, что каждый пациент [spoiler]утверждает, что у него есть сверхъестественные способности, и я до последнего не верила, что это неправда: их истории пересекаются и даже имеют подтверждения.[/spoiler]

Комплешионистам в этой игре nиздец, потому что чем больше вопросов вы задаёте, [spoiler]тем более безумным становится главный герой, а это ведёт к плохой концовке.[/spoiler] К сожалению, это было не слишком очевидно, но мне очень хотелось узнать как можно больше информации обо всём.

В конце игры надо определить, кто убил Деккера, если вы ошиблись — неважно, игра тут же даст переиграть. Убийца определяется случайным образом, это круто. Правда, я так и не поняла, как должна была найти своего; то ли сложный случай выпал, то ли игра меня запутала, то ли я заразилась безумием.

Актёры играют потрясающе, особенно ассистентка. В жопу Марианну, Джайя затащила всё! Минус в том, что фильм британский, а значит, приходится бесконечно смотреть на их кривые зубы. Простите.

First of all, the thing that makes this game unacceptably bad and tedious that I cannot even bring myself to finish is the UI. The UI is dreadful, to say that the UI is bad is an understatement. Unreadable texts, unseeable mouse cursor, and generally unintuitive UI.

If you really like the game and its concept, you can get through that horrendous UI. The story is bloated with useless questions, they are optional but I couldn't feel interested enough to even try and finish it.

I expect more from an FMV game than just a 1:1 conversation with nothing else happening.

This game was pretty ok. I usually enjoy these types of games. I've seen other people play FMV games but I have never experienced playing it myself. It's a little different than a visual novel.

I like that you have the option to type out your own questions and answers but for the most part, it didn't seem like my own questions were actually considered and was only based on keywords that were typed. So you don't exactly get the reaction or answer you want from your custom questions. I ended up having to use the auto questions just because I wanted things to make more sense.

I thought the acting was pretty good. It wasn't super cheesy like most FMV's. I definitely didn't expect the plot to unravel the way that it did nearing the end. It was definitely a tough decision seeing as you're sorting through all your evidence and options on trying to figure out who murdered Dr. Dekker as well as trying to keep up with your own sanity.

I literally got lucky when I chose the correct suspect the first time around. I really wish there was a save system that allows you to go back to certain acts and replay it instead of completely having to start a whole new game. It's quite long especially if you've already played through it.

Overall, I did enjoy the story. Some of the characters got under my skin just a little bit but I imagine it's all part of the experience lol. My only debate is if I should bother trying to replay this several more times just to get certain achievements.

Some of you may remember an episode of Seinfeld where Kramer starts his own movie showtimes service where he pretends to be a prerecorded voice asking people to press a number based on what movie they want to see.

Then someone actually calls him and presses a button and he realizes he can't tell what number they pressed because the tones are all the same.

So finally he just says, "why don't you teeelllll me what movie you want to see?"

The premise of Doctor Dekker is very interesting and the performances of the actors is pretty good overall. However, the game mechanics are extremely frustrating because the game does not interpret questions well at all. Often, I'll ask a question and get a "I have no idea" response. Then, when I get a hint, the same question is suggested but phrased in a slightly different way. Similarly, I'll ask a question and get a response from the game that doesn't actually answer the question - usually it's tangentially related to what I've asked, but doesn't quite make sense.

I feel that this game would be much better if it were able to properly interpret language and make connections between keywords that are synonyms or closely related.

It's decent. Characters are interesting. Every character is Whacko and I enjoy really enjoyed the dialogue with them.

The central mechanic of the game of typing phrases to ask questions is one I'm not enjoying much, and that's coming from someone that enjoyed this mechanic in the original King's Quest games. I feel as though I'm wrestling with it a lot and using the games "give you the answer" hint system far too often.

While I much preferred the mechanics of Contradiction, or even the ShapeShifting Detective, this game can be equally as absorbing thanks to the acting and dialogue.

Different, but good.

Its not quite what I expected. You type in the correct questions to get a response, and go from there. Sometimes the questions can be a bit removed from what you would expect. Most people will turn to a guide. If you can nail the questions, there is a good flow to the dialog. The stories behind each character are interesting flair towards the supernatural. The overall meta plot can be a bit hard to piece together given the random nature of who the culprit is. But it still ties things together.

The production values are high and the acting is generally pretty good. Overall I'm happy with the purchase, but I did pick it up during a sale. Its not nearly as good the Shapeshifting Detective, but I'd put it ahead of Poe and Monroe among the studios other games.

The chairs are upholstered in green screen fabric, making the men sitting in them occasionally disappear into digital static.

The Characters: The Game Designer: A man radiating toxic levels of enthusiasm. The Publisher: A corporate suit who views human suffering as a neat gameplay mechanic.

The Publisher: So, you have a psychological FMV murder mystery where I have to perform manual data entry to communicate with people for me?

The Game Designer: Yes, sir, I do! It is called The Infectious Madness of Doctor Dekker. We are bringing back Full Motion Video. Real actors, real sets, real awkward silences where they just look at you.

The Publisher: Oh, I love real people. And the gameplay?

The Game Designer: No dialogue trees! No lists! You have to physically type your questions into a text box.

The Publisher: Typing? That sounds like work. Why are we making the player work?

The Game Designer: So immersion can happen! You type "Where were you last night?" and the game scans your words for keywords. Sometimes it won't understand you, though.

The Game Designer: Whoopsie! But when it works, you feel like a real detective poking holes in their stories.

Scully: Mulder, it’s clearly just a series of actors reading lines. There is a scientific explanation for this interface.

Sherlock: Obviously the killer was the one with the motive. I deduced it before the game even installed.

Watson: I’m just trying to be polite, Sherlock. And I quite like the typing. It feels... distinct.

The Publisher: Who are you people?

Mulder: We are the demographic that obsesses over mysteries! This game lets me interrogate people about the supernatural without the FBI shutting me down!

The Game Designer: Exactly! You are a psychiatrist taking over for Doctor Dekker, who was pinned to the wall by a sharp object!

The Publisher: Oooooh, pinned to walls by sharp objects is tight!

The Game Designer: It sure is. You treat patients and solve the murder.

Scully: That is a massive conflict of interest. You cannot be both the treating physician and the investigator.

The Game Designer: I don't know! That's what we're going with! And the patients are weird. We have a guy who digs holes for the deceased who has an extra hour in his day that nobody else has.

The Publisher: An extra hour? He could get so much laundry done.

The Game Designer: He really could! But the best part is, once you solve it, it’s super easy, barely an inconvenience to play again.

The Publisher: Oh really?

The Game Designer: Yeah, because the killer is randomized! At the start of a new game, the computer rolls a die and decides who did it.

[GUEST CRASH!]

The ceiling tiles fall away. Jeanette, Velvet, LaCroix, Nines, Jack, and Bertram Tung drop in.

Jeanette: DID SOMEONE SAY RANDOMIZED?! I love it! One minute I’m the doctor, the next I’m the detective!

LaCroix: This room is overcrowded. Though I appreciate the manual labor of typing. It keeps the peasants busy.

Velvet: It’s so intimate, darling. Just you and the screen. Like a private dance... of justice.

Jack: Hah! You gotta listen to 'em, kid! Actually listen! If you don't pay attention to the alibi, you're gonna look like a fool!

Bertram Tung: (Voice from an empty chair) I prefer the typing. Means I don't have to show my face.

The Publisher: This room is getting very full. How do I know when I'm done interrogating them?

The Game Designer: The color system! Amber means progress, Green means you've drained them dry!

The Publisher: I like Green. Green means money.

Jack: Green means you're being nosy, kid!

The Game Designer: But wait, there's more! The madness is infectious!

The Publisher: Infectious?

The Game Designer: Oh, big time. As you ask dangerous questions, your "Insanity Meter" goes up. You start seeing things. Hearing things. The text changes.

The Publisher: So the game mechanic can happen where I lose my mind just by doing my job?

The Game Designer: That is the best part! It’s a workplace hazard simulator!

[GUEST CRASH!]

The right wall explodes. Jinx, Gaige, Maya, and Zane cartwheel in. The room is packed.

Jinx: DID SOMEONE SAY INSANITY METER?!

Gaige: I love stacks of Anarchy! Let the meter go up! Let's break the game physics!

Zane: Look at this, boyo! A meter that tells you how cracked you are! I should have one of those installed on my HUD!

Maya: It adds a layer of psychological danger. You have to balance your curiosity with your stability.

Jinx: BOOOORING! I just want to type "EXPLOSION" and see if the doctor explodes! Does he?!

The Game Designer: No, he just looks confused.

Jinx: (Visibly disappointed, poking LaCroix in the chest) Aw. Can I make this vampire guy explode?

Sherlock: (To Velvet) This text box isn't a dance, madam. It is a data retrieval tool. You are romanticizing a database query.

Maya: (To Scully) Does your science explain the time loops the designer mentioned?

Scully: Mass hallucination induced by stress and suggestion.

Mulder: It's the Old Ones, Scully! The game is a portal!

Nines: (To LaCroix) Hey, at least the doctor doesn't make us listen to long speeches like you.

Gaige: Can I build a robot to type for me?

The Game Designer: No, but you can type with your elbows if you want!

Zane: (To Mulder) I’ve got a clone that could do the typing for us, mate. Double the insults, half the effort!

Sherlock: (Checking his watch) Watson, the probability of us solving this murder before the room collapses from over-population is shrinking rapidly.

Watson: I’m still stuck on how the nurse fits into all this, Holmes!

Maya: (To the Game Designer) If the insanity meter hits max, do we get superpowers or just a very confusing ending?

The Publisher: And the player just sits there and types the whole time?

I'm sure there's a cool story in here. Unfortunately the game's free text input mechanic is unbearably boring and clunky. The characters seem to respond to keywords, ignoring any context in your input. Their answers are usually nonsensical with respect to what you've actually asked and constantly reveal that there's nothing more going on under the hood than a look-up in some sort of internal database based on one word in the sentence you've typed. It makes it really hard to feel any immersion. I constantly felt like I would probably have a better experience if I just typed in the keywords I suspected would matter, but then the whole 'this is a conversation' shtick falls apart and the game just feels like a big chore.

I understand the technical difficulties of making a game with realistic dialogue based on freeform user input (in 2018 no less). Especially when the responses are entire clips made with real actors and such. It's cool that the developers wanted to experiment with this type of gameplay, but the end result is just not good enough to be entertaining in my opinion.
