Текстуры, освещение от выстрелов просто что-то магическое для того времени. По сути, это законнорожденный гибрид первых частей, который походил в спортзал.

- Космическая симулятивность (для тех лет). Это не аркадка. Тут ты не просто летаешь, а работаешь: перекидываешь энергию с движков на щиты и пушки прямо в гуще боя. Ты прям ощущаешь себя пилотом, а не кажешься им.
- Мультиплеер, это суть этой части. В 90-х проходить сюжетку с кентяриком по сети (не в СНГ конечно) это было развалом башки. Летать звеном из живых людей — это совершенно другой уровень тактики.
Даже сейчас с помощью костылей можно замутить свой кооп, было бы с кем.
- Звук и аутентичность: Фирменный визг движков и писк систем — всё «сошло с киноленты». Лукасы всегда умели в звук, и тут он реально отваливает башню.
- Баланс и масштаб: Игра уравнивает шансы хлипких "таек" против бронированных "иксов". А когда в кадре появляется "Палач", масштаб просто поражает.

-Джойстик без него никак. Как и в оригиналах, без полноценного джойстика в кабине ловить нечего. На клаве играть практически нереально, мышь тоже живёт своей жизнью.
- Сюжет стал суше: Исчезли крутые ламповые кат-сцены и интриги. Теперь всё по-спартански: сухой текст брифинга и сразу в бой.
- Хардкор и порог вхождения: максимальный. Либо ты учишься менеджменту систем, либо удаляешь игру через 10 минут.
Рашн лангуаге из эпсент: Традиционно нет локализации. Без знания инглиша в задачи миссий вникать тяжеловато (ну это уже традиционное).

В целом ребёночек то у них получился. Картинка более качественная (спасибо апскейлу), уровень SIMуляции тот же, есть мультиплеер, убрали катсцены, чтобы они не отвлекали. I am only able to get to mission 2 in training mode. It wants me to inspect ships, but it doesn't tell me how to do so other than pressing the Z key on the computer screen. This changes the screen but it does not tell me what to do in order to inspect a ship. I can't just skip the mission.

Nostalgia at it's best for me. Played this a ton growing up. Make sure to review all requirements and do some googling to ensure you get the game to perform optimally. Takes little time to tweak. Highly recommend a joystick.
I bought a joystick just for this, because apparently my mouse and keyboard weren't immersive enough. Never ending amount of crashes later, I still say it was worth it.
For the game to run PERFECTLY and at 60 frames per second on Windows 7, Windows 10, Windows 11 and in the future, Windows 12 Do this: Download xw_series_60FPS and xwing_ddraw_d3d11_1.5.14 and put the contents of each of these 2 folders (NOT the entire folder!) inside the XvT folder ... AND in the BalanceOfPower folder! And after that, DO NOT FORGET to Switch "3D Hardware ON" in the game's configuration menu!
Once you get the game running the way it should, the campaign is very interesting with in-game voices during missions and cutscenese and even the mission briefing and debriefing that unfolds the story as you progress. I found the story very engaging and there are some VERY interesting plots twists that tie nicely with the original Star Wars movies! You'll understand why we briefly see a new and different starfighters in Star Wars: Return Of The Jedi!
If you're a fan of the ORIGINAL Star Wars movies, you'll become a fan of this game. There's even a voice that sounds a lot like Mark Hamill's Luke Skywalker! :D
Can't use my joystick in game. It let's me calibrate and it all works great, but once I get in the game, nothing works any longer. Plus it bugs the heck out of my PC, not even letting me close the game.

If X-Wing was your flight school and Rogue Squadron was your adrenaline rush, then Balance of Power is the actual war. This expansion takes the foundation of the XvT engine and injects it with a massive, high-stakes campaign that remains one of the most balanced and demanding experiences in the Star Wars library.The mission design is a masterclass in complexity. The lack of cinematic "hand-holding" is actually its greatest strength—you are treated like a professional officer, given a briefing, and expected to execute the plan with zero margin for error. The AI is aggressive and requires you to be at the top of your game, constantly calibrating your energy levels and shield bias to survive the chaos.
This is Star Wars at its most disciplined and rewarding. It’s a simulation of war, not a movie tie-in, and that’s exactly why it still holds the gold standard for the genre.

Kontroller daha iyi, Görseller daha net ve anlaşılır, görevler dönemine göre iyi, savaşlar eğlenceli çünkü özellikle düşmanların manevra hareketleri çok iyi. Tam 1-2 vuruyorsun bir anda manevra yapmaya başlıyor ve uyduruktan da değil gerçekten yapıyor. Radar sistemini okumayı çözüp it dalaşına girmen gerekiyor. Çünkü sadece kaçmıyor anladığım kadarıyla sen saldırınca manevra yapıp senin arkana geçip saldırıyor. Peşindeki düşmanlardan kaçmakta kolay olmuyor. Hızını arttırıp azaltarak kaçınman bile gerekebiliyor.
Sadece 1-1,5 saat oynadım. Bu bile dönemine göre ne kadar sağlam olduğunu ve mekanikleri ile hala oynanabilir olduğunu görmeme yetti ama oyun sonuç olarak 97 yapımı çok eski bir oyun.
Ciddi bir Star Wars hayranı veya kült uzay savaşı mekanikli bir oyun oynayacağım diye bir isteğiniz yoksa ancak 1-2 saat oynamayı deneyip beğenip bir daha bakmazsınız.

nostalgia. if you get this game don't expect it to work online for multiplayer. I haven't found a way to do it. BUT if you just want to play on LAN you could get it to work. the way I found was to disable Wifi adapters on two PCs, connect them by Ethernet cable (assuming you have the ports to plug in to), and then follow a youtube video on setting the IP addresses so you can link the PCs. in the game you can specify the host PC's IP address (internet=yes) in the configuration screen, and then join the host. enjoy!
It is difficult, but not so much so that one is turned off, imho.
To make your game only playable via joystick is annoying and deserves a thumbs down as is.
But to make your game unplayable with a no joystick detected message...when a joystick is not only present, but registers in the calibration options is inexcusable.

Non so quante ore ho passato a giocarci da piccolo su Windows 95. Molto bello il concept: sei un pilota che entra in accademia e deve imparare a pilotare i caccia stellari. Man mano che si va avanti c'è anche la possibilità di combattere le battaglie dei film. In ogni momento si può passare dalla Ribellione all'Impero e viceversa, come se si portassero avanti due "carriere" parallele.
Consiglio di usare un flight sitck per un'esperienza migliore.

It was the only game(s) in town for many aspiring stick-jockeys, in terms of space-based dogfighting combat. . .
Nowadays, in an age graphical fidelity, it feels a lot like 'flying' around in your basic Windows starfield screensaver. . .
There are 4 titles available in this series, and this is the last & most-comprehensive of them.
That's why I grabbed it, to get the most-complete package with options for multiplay -- however, I don't have any nostalgia goggles to ultimately color my experience with this game.
So, instead, I'll play a similar game that has eye candy -- called 'STAR WARS Squadrons'.

Lo he jugado mucho tiempo. Mas de lo que aquí se ve. Ya que tengo la versión física. Funciona muy bien (algunos crashes que entiendo son debidos a los nuevos sistemas mas modernos), tiene muchas misiones tanto oficiales como conversiones de la comunidad. Los gráficos son antiguos pero la intensidad del juego es la misma de siempre.

First, I've been encountering an inconsistent crash upon mission completion which is quite frustrating as it doesn't count the mission complete. Sometimes I've gone several missions without seeing it, then other times it's my first mission so if this is corrected I'd flip this review without a second thought.
If you're ok with periodic crashes, it's an amazing Star Wars dogfighting simulator that you can sink hours into. The singleplayer experience is exactly how I remember when playing it back in the 90s, right down to the little hitch when loading into the main menu after bootup :D
The game can be played with a controller/gamepad but, for the full X-Wing and Tie fighter experience, I strongly suggest having a flight stick for the finer controller in flight/targeting before purchasing.

The combat has been overhauled once again (in a good way), the campaign is pretty fun (and rage inducing), and the training modes are fun.
It's a classic and it's better than Star Wars Squadrons.

As much as I am a fan of X-Wing / Tie Fighter simulators, I can't recommand this one.
X-Wing, Tie Fighter and X-Wing alliance are gold though (despite some pesky bugs).
Indeed, when X-Wing vs Tie Fighter was released, its main focus was multiplayer, but they didn't had to recycle existing content from the two previous games.
Combat scenarios are unbalanced, where Imperials have the fastest and deadliest crafts. On the Alliance side, you are forced to struggle with sub-par fighters (Z-95s and Y-Wings).
Some missions are too hastly designed on some sides, where, unless abusing of the respawn system you can't have enough time / enough warheads to disable / destroy a station for instance (and thus leading to the destruction of the crafts that are coming to pick-up some containers near the station - and of course they can't wait for the station to be disabled before hypering in the area, in range of fire of the station).
Not to mention the IA's unability to priorize some targets, which means it's up to you to do the job, even when you're not in the flight group that should do it.
Fortunately, Balance of Power adds the B-Wing, which is the equal craft to the Assault Gunboat.
Oftenly, you need to destroy ASAP the missile launchers of capital ships before they blow your entire flight group sky high. This was also the same in Tie Fighter's latest campaigns, but at least you were playing a Tie Advanced, Tie Defender or a Missile Boat and not a frail Z95 which would die a thousand deaths before being in range of the spaceship's missile launcher(s).
Furthermore, campaigns missions from BoP are clearly designed for cooperation and are insanely hard in solo mode (especially the two last missions on the imperial side).
I don't know if the multiplayer mode is still operational, but I would say to avoid this one if you're not planning to play with some friends.

I love this game. I have been playing it for 26 years. This September (2023), a Steam client update landed that impeded the most popular way of multiplayer matchmaking (GameRanger). Steam has been unwilling to look into the issue, stating they do not support third-party software. As it stands, this Steam version of the game is only multiplayer capable via manually adjusting your router settings. I cannot recommend this game on the Steam platform until this issue is fixed. If you're considering buying this game, you should; it's a fantastic bunch of fun. But don't buy it here on Steam.

I went into this thinking that it wouldn't work but it did and if I choose to connect a gamepad that works too aside from mouse/keyboard. The missions are simple and engaging the ai friendly units will respond and attack targets if you command them to.
Don't try attacking Star Destroyers directly like I do or you'll too become a skid mark! Happy gaming :)

The game over steam is broken the entire game crashes after completion of any mission making it unplayable, I am very disappointing that Steam would sell this game with a problem that big.

I tried to navigate the arcane process of installing a joystick emulator to convert my mouse inputs into joystick inputs, but there are surprisingly few resources for this. I'll be requesting a refund.
This is a fabulous game. It is a classic. It allows One to choose Imperial or Rebel and even (usually) your ship type and element. It has aged very well. I love this game more now, than when it released.
Waaaay too much manual configuration required by the user. Steam or Lucasfilm Disney hasn't updated any compatibility issues so the game won't be ready to play. After overcoming a DirectPlay issue by allowing legacy Windows Features it then wouldn't recognize some keys in game because it doesn't like playing through a bigger screen. The music stutters causing CTDs so you have to play a Star Wars game without John Williams music. There are guides online to fix all this including Voodoo gfx but certainly not worth the effort once you actually play the campaign. It goes from easy to hard to easy then brutally hard again. Couldn't get past the second to last mission which seems like it was built for LAN play & not AI Team mates, and if so why include it in the single player campaign? Not worth my effort at least.

This is a very complete action-packed game that makes you feel like you are inside the Star Wars world. Keep playing it every now and then, even after more than 20 years after it was released.

Was worth pulling the joystick out of storage for. This game still slaps. And the graphics aged better than most since you're mostly looking at space and a cockpit.
For single player, it's way less interesting than TIE Fighter, or even X-Wing, but okay. But back in the day, playing multiplayer Star Wars flight combat for the first time? Minds were blown.
My only disappointment is that it crashes occassionnally for me, typically right at the end of a mission.

Since there is no neutral recommendation, I am going to tepidly recommend.
I love this game. Even though it is arguably the worst in the X-Wing series, it is my favorite, but if you cannot deal with old resolutions, old graphics, or own a joystick, buy X-Wing Alliance and download the XWAU mods. Another trip down memory lane. The graphics hold up well for the age of the game. While mutliplayer is not as active, the single player campaign and missions should keep you well occupied. Be warned, some of the missions are incredibly difficult even on easy. All in all, it was a good time to go back through this game.
This game doesn't work on Windows 11.
It throws an error message: "DirectDraw Init FAILED at 2".
I suppose its trying to load the very old DirectDraw function and is failing.
I tried running this in Windows XP SP-2 compatibility mode, but sadly that did not fix it.
I messed with the screen resolution settings in Config.cfg - didn't fix it.
I installed several old versions of DirectX - didn't fix it.
Would love a patch from the vendor or a workaround from anyone if they have it.
I can't see anything when I play the game...

Fantastic space combat simulator! On par with Freespace and a solid step up from Tie Fighter.
Such a classic game! I still play it today when I need a good space combat simulator!!!
Even if it's old, probably one of the best space sims you can play! The story and cutscenes of Tie Fighter are missing, but the gameplay, graphics and sound are great!

С X-Wing vs TIE Fighter у меня связана забавная история, в детстве на уроке информатики наш препод пытался её запустить для локальной сети, но не вышло. Потом её пытались в доме также по локалке запустить и снова мимо, поэтому все прелести игры я познал уже в зрелом возрасте и как понимаете меня она удивить ничем не могла. Хотя для своего времени это был несомненный хит - почти 80 боевых вылетов в мультиплеере в командах до 8 человек. Для того периода топ. Мне же довелось пройти только Balance of Power (специальное расширение для однопользовательского режима). Технически мы можем играть за повстанцев или Империю, но на самом деле никакой разницы нет, миссии практически идентичны, да и концовка тоже. Сейчас интерфейс игры воспринимается убого, все таки портируя классику нужно было хотя бы для вида постараться. К примеру без джойстика игра вообще не запускается. Да и вообще всё выглядит крайне однообразно и архаично. Оценку ставлю версии в стим и играть рекомендую в целях ознакомления с классикой, в противном случае всем мимо. 6.0

Surprisingly, Star Wars has done a great job with game title crossovers like X-Wing vs TIE Fighter or Dark Forces/Jedi Knight and this is something I consider quite innovated for games released in the 90s and shows what could have been from Star Wars gaming IP as a whole.
For STAR WARS X-Wing vs TIE Fighter - Balance of Power Campaigns you are essentially getting the best of both worlds (good vs evil, light vs dark) in a flying/space-sim game. I would recommend personally playing all the X-Wing and TIE Fighter games before coming to this one to understand what story there is but that is more of a preference and not a requirement as this title also serves as a great standalone entry. Either way, you will have a good time!

Este jogo tem uma jogabilidade excelente. Requer treino, mas é extremamente imersivo e divertido.
O remote play togheter não funciona, nem o modo tela dividida. Deve-se estudar as conexões para jogar online, pois não são intuitivas.

Tja,... Schade eigentlich. Ich habe mir mehr erhofft... Ich habe die Originale noch teilweise im Schrank liegen und lange Zeit viel Spaß damit gehabt. Als alter Star Wars Anhänger, kam ich nicht daran vorbei.
Leider laufen die Spiele nicht (einwandfrei). Teilweise bin ich nur bis zum Hangar gekommen, beim ersten Flugversuch: Crash to Desk... beim nächsten Start, "Hey, LucasArts, cool..." *Crash to Desk* .... Sorry, eigentlich macht das ganze rundum Spaß, für jeden Star Wars Fan ein Muss und eigentlich will ich es positiv bewerten:
