I was a massive fan of the original games, the games were massive in depth and the dlcs had plenty to offer in new ships, mechanics and features, while i was majorly hyped for this game for such a long time and was excited when it was announced. im not really satisfied with it at all, im deeply disappointed.

First, i was expecting major improvements and advancements, the developers are not new by any means to developing a variety of games and have over a decade of experience ONTOP of having employed many of the series biggest modding teams such as the team behind Sins of the Prophets Halo mod. Obviously there is no excuse for any downgrade interms of model design, game mechanics, features or quality, the models are really well textured, the factions have very indepth and intune aesthetics with their respective empires that makes them really pop and immerse the world very much like the ships from Homeworld. weapons and turrets r both animated nicely and most of the particle effects and textures are well done, planets look really nice and the background of space too. i enjoyed much of the new mechanics and features such as population management and planetary modules, really allows the players to build their planets to be science asteroids, industrial forge worlds or even frontier fortress worlds inspired by Cadia from 40k.

Now, beyond that i have plenty of issues. WAY too much laziness and overuse of AI generated content on even basic things like image cards, much of the game is just remade using AI to such an eyesore degree it looks massively lazy and unnecessary as they couldve just reused old art from the original games as a placeholder if they needed to and it wouldve worked no problem since they are well made. the main menu is really suffocating in its layout and design, an entire screen of UI but only a small tiny spot in the top like im trying to find a needle in a hay stack, settings for basic things like resolution, texture quality and so forth were main stay in the original but were not an option here.

Many of the ships from the prior game carry over with significant changes, some very much so and others not as much, they look great but this game is set after several decades after the war has progressed, i wouldve expected the designs to develop and centralize. For those unaware, the Human factions {TEC} had no military vessels as they were an economic empire in peace and each world was unified in trade to prosper, when the war brokeout, they converted many civilian vessels into makeshift warships with only a few actual Warships being made such as the KOL Battlecruiser in the few years after the war started. This was an amazing design philosophy as you can see on most of their ships where the Trade and Civil sections end and where the Militaristic sections begin and where they the TEC just slapped weapons where they could fit it.

In this game those designs are mostly unchanged other then armament {which ill get into later below} now with some of the military vessels like the KOL i understand they wouldnt need much changes in structure since they were already dedicated Warships by design, however the majority of their naval compliment originally were Cargo haulers and Mining vessels retrofit for war. In this game if anything those vessels were mostly copy and pasted and even downgraded interms of armament, abilites or changed in purpose in contrast to their roles initially in the prior game. all the factions in this game have this complication, i wouldve expected the designs of the TEC to become predominately Warships with the initial prior game designs being further upgraded for that purpose after 30 or so years of nonstop war for example.

Armament, its garbage and changed needlessly in this game, if its not broken dont fix it. The TEC, Advent and Vasari have very specific and unique compliments of weaponry they each use, TEC uses a mix of missiles, auto cannons and laser cannons with some special weapons like the KOL's beam and Gauss cannons on their orbital defenses, Advent uses mainly plasma cannons and beam weapons and the Vasari specialize on their tech advantage of pulse and wave energy weapons and phase missiles which bypass shields. in this game it is like all 3 have regressed in technology, the TEC no longer use laser weaponry at all and have diminished use of missiles and fighter craft, focusing on more gauss and auto cannons, the other 2 factions also have technology and armament just gone, with many ship designs being ruined and pointless in their new forms. the Marza dreadnaught for the TEC is a siege cruiser, lots of missile launchers with auto and laser cannons, it was one of the best before, now its garbage, a literal glass cannon.

I tried to enjoy this game i really did, but it isnt fun to play any of the factions, the ships looking great just is not enough to continue playing it, the dlc have added plenty of new ships and designs but that isnt going to cover up the sore thumbs in the room, how they could ruin already perfect ships is beyond me, theres no strategy to be had in the game since all the ships r glass cannons and are fodder to throw away even if ships r specialized for certain roles they dont perform in them well.

i could go on plenty but id be here forever, game needs much much changed and improved so until then im giving it a 3/10

Se ve bonito, las batallas son enormes y el cerebro se te derrite planeando todo… pero básicamente es el mismo vicio de siempre, ahora más caro y más bonito.

No hay campaña, así que vienes a conquistar galaxias o a perder 6 horas de tu vida en una partida “rápida”.

Firstly, if you liked the first Sins of a Solar Empires game, then this is an obvious buy. Everything has been improved from the first game and now with the bounty system in place, it feels like there is nothing left behind. Multiplayer is a breeze, with the ability to drop in and drop out. The space battles look great and they added an empire management screen to let you manage all your planets, and a fleet version where you can manage all your capital ships. you can reinforce your fleets directly so that ships will be built from the optimal shipyard and will be added to the fleet as they are built.

They added incremental optional objectives to do as you start a game and get small bonuses as you built up. They added the ability to put equipment on ships as well. Its nice because it adds some character to your fleet.

Its a solid RTS and I just crossed 100 hours and want to play hundreds more.

A point worth mentioning, they have a nice integrated mod system so hopefully that adds distance to game.

Funny note about the multiplayer, me and my brother were playing a team game against AI and something happened to his internet because I heard the discord chimes. it was a further 10 minutes until we actually figured out we were both playing sepperate single player games that both branched off the game we were playing. It was a seamless transition to AI for both of us. we only figured out because we he was asking me why my fleet was going to x system and I said im not in that system... but then it was seamless for him to just rejoin me.

This is an extremely fun little space RTS. The amount of modability and the support for modders on this game is absolutely fantastic. My only complaint, if I had to dig to find one, would be that planet's role in building your empire seems a little lackluster and has huge potential to be greatly expanded. Things like industry, anti-orbital surface defenses, planetary politics, commerce and unique ship components production that (for instance) only an industry on one planet can accomplish (Gauss weapon production specialization for as an example) can be much more flushed out instead of a very limited selection of district themed buildings. I get it is a space based game; however, I feel that planet's macro economic, industry, politics, defense, and military could be greatly expanded upon.

Don't let that turn you off from trying this game out though! It is really fun and deserves a checking out.

Ich war sehr geduldig mit den Entwicklern aber sie lernen nicht dazu. Der größte Negativpunkt ist, dass weiterhin bei jedem weiteren Patch / Update die Gefahr besteht, dass deine vorherigen Spielstände nicht mehr spielbar sind und du wieder von vorne anfangen musst.

I was very patient with the developers, but they don't seem to learn. The biggest drawback is that with every patch/update, there's still a risk that your previous save games will become unusable, forcing you to start all over again.

So far I have not found any crazy bugs. Some of the new mechanics to find missing ships, and what planets still need upgrades etc are very well thought out! Excellent new addition, and the increased graphics are great and the AI is pretty intuitive, but does not adapt as well to changes in the map.

Schöner MP, Partien gehen nicht zu lange, Spiel nimmt erst im Verlauf Fahrt auf, man benötigt nicht 1 Anschlag/Sekunde, Rassen gut balanciert. Hat hohen Wiederspielwert, obwohl es immer das Gleiche ist - fragt nicht, wieso. Für alle, die ein langsameres RTS wollen oder für alte Säcke wie mich, die nicht mehr schnell genug sind.

There's no campaign, it's basically the same thing as the first games version of random battles galactic conquest. The graphics are a bit better, there's some different ships. Buy the first one instead, this one has nothing new to really add.

It's a curse of RTS games, the way factions that aren't thematically Zerg, are mechanically Zerg, because that's just how it's always been done. Frigates and cruisers are cannon fodder, and that offends my overly developed sense of correctness: to see ships behave less like ships, with crews of thinking, reasoning individuals possessed of self-preservation instincts, and more like hydralisks, mindlessly moving into position to spit and die.

I wish I didn't find myself building up a single massive doomstack/death ball/infantry blob of a fleet and steam roll with it, one world at a time. I'd like to fight on a smaller scale across multiple fronts, with more thought given to tactics than finding ways to front-load damage on massive single targets, or wide fronts of smaller ships.

I'd like to make actual strategic decisions, rather than just build everything everywhere (hyperbole), research all of it, and limit my decision making to what to do first. If I had to set up my own trade routes, manage the logistics of getting raw materials to refineries and factories, and deliver supplies to ships fighting on the front lines, we might actually have a reason to put an S in RTS here.

All that said, this is some of the most fun I've had with a Real Time Strategy game in years. I absolutely love starting up a System Wars free for all and waging war across the galaxy. I like that there's a rational, logical diplomacy screen. I absolutely love the latest update with its capture mechanics, bounties, and minor factions with agency and goals of their own.

Wie schon der Vorgänger hat das Spiel ein gewisses Suchtpotenzial.
Der Einstieg ist relativ leicht, die verschiedenen Fraktionen unterscheiden sich ausreichend um Abwechslung bieten zu können.
Zudem ist die Moddingszene recht aktiv wodurch man sich das Spiel ziemlich nach seinen Wünschen verändern kann.
Negativ anzumerken wäre wohl die KI die teilweise reagiert wie ein Vollpfosten! Selbst wenn der eigene Heimatplanet in Gefahr ist schwirrt die Hauptflotte manchmal ganz woanders herum nur um irgendeinen wertlosen Asteroiden des Gegners zu erobern oder schickt die Flotte so zersetzt zum Gegner das der einfach nur dastehen braucht und jedes einzeln ankommende Schiff direkt wegballern braucht!
Oder die Flotte bleibt an einem Ort weil dort Handelsschiffe des Gegners durchfliegen statt sich um seine Planeten oder Kampfflotten zu kümmern, so kann es vorkommen das alle Gegnerflotten sich um eine Sonne sammeln um Handelsschiffe zu jagen während man ohne Probleme ihre Planeten erobert.

Davon aber abgesehen ist Sins of a Solar Empire II durchaus ein Spiel mit Potenzial, und auch gut geeignet um einfach zwischendurch mal ein kleines Spiel zu machen, oder auch je nach Map ein Spiel was Tage dauern kann. Für mich jedenfalls ein Daumen hoch wert!

This builds on the original exceptionally well while still being interesting and not overwhelming.

Some stellaris enjoyers will hate it because you don't have to get a PhD to play the game, but I quite like it.

It's pretty much every previous version with (in my not so humble opinion) with a nicely refined interface, a few better mechanics, and much better tech tree progression. I really like the minor faction interface and rep points mechanic. If this is your first time with the series yes it is a recommended buy, if not, get it on sale.

More depth than before. Starting to approach a similar tone as Stellaris with a uniquely SOSE style. More tactics oriented than grand strategy, but definitely immersive enough on both points.

Game is very similar in UI to the previous first version but significantly more interesting with the changes. I recommend a Beginner's Guide video by Sins Of A Solar Empire 2 Beginner's Guide by Montu Plays. I have no association with him, it's just a good robust info. filled video if you are wanting to understand some of the new changes or just getting started.

I'm enjoying learning it and looking forward to the new content coming in the future.

TL;DR:- great game, ignore the "OMG THE USED AI ART IN THIS GAME" lol the game is dope, dont let this keep you from having this gem.

now the actual review- a faithful recreation of the original, with new units to fill more roles and allow more battlefield flexibility, and new quality of life improvments such as buildable planetary improvements that act as science stations or asteroid mining buffs, and all this while keeping the core gameplay of hectic huge scale battles of the original intact.

this is truly a rare game to see nowadays: a sequal that kept what made the old game addictive, and improved upon it instead of veering off to new directions nobody asked for.

The base game was ok, it felt like it released incomplete without all the factions and very poor communication on what they were doing. Having played thousands of hours of the first Sins, I came back a few times but have never been able to get into it. A big part of that for me is how unfriendly the game is to mods. Forcing the use of mod.io, and constant compatibility issues that are unclear when subscribing.

The list of non-sleazy companies out there has shrunk almost to nothing.

The game itself if fun, though after giving it a good try, I prefer SOSE-Rebellion with E4X.

Addictive real time 4x strategy focused on battles of large spaceship flotillas. You do research, colonize and develop your worlds, build your fleet and battle other spacefaring civilizations. Not overly complicated, not super fast, rather relaxing. Not really micro-heavy. Can get a bit repetitive after a while, but 80 hours in and I'm still playing.

综合质量不错的太空rts，就是感觉没什么深度，开了几把就感觉到内容的匮乏了，没什么支撑我重复游玩的动力；
没有剧情战役模式，只能打自定义;
美术风格不错，战斗场景绝美，视角拉近后代入感极强，但美中不足的是插画AI味极重，UI设计也非常糟糕简陋；
优化算不错的，玩着不卡，后期舰队规模上来以后也流畅;
打折可以玩玩，原价不推荐。期待后续打磨。

Large space game, lots of updates that frequently adjust gameplay usually for the better. AI is decent, but could be better, although updates to the game frequently cause you to relearn how to best beat the AI. Lots of ships, ship interactions, abilities, makes for lots of replayability, maps of varying sizes and styles.

I just finished the last Achievement to 100% complete them all. TIPS BELOW! Overall A great game! I came from playing the original Sins starting in 2008. They have added a lot of under the hood improvements for multicore support and the graphics in this game are nice! I am not a fan of the AI Art however it didn't really take away from my gameplay enjoyment. So I will not dock a point for it; especially given that the team making SINS2 is very small.

If you are just playing to have fun I rate this game a 10/10.
Please note that at the time of writing this I have the base game and only the Reinforcements DLC. I did not buy the Paths To Power so my review does not include that DLC content. At the time of writing this based on user reviews of that DLC, it is not great.

If you are after 100% ACHIEVEMENT COMPLETION I rate this game as 9/10.
Reason being is that I wasted so much time trying for achievements and I didn't know you needed the DLC for some achievements; yet unlike Sins Rebellion, they didn't add that warning in the achievements description section.

* Space Ponies!? - Be aware there is a mod to help you with this one if you need help.

* All-Knowing - You will need all DLC that adds research to the game. At the time of writing this that is just the Reinforcements DLC; not the Paths to power.

* Military Intelligence - This is the current rarest achievement in the game (0.8%). I was able to get this achievement by first, owning all the DLC's that add military research options to the game. Secondly I completed this in single player playing as TEC on a map of 10 total players with 2 teams (5vs5) and putting all the AI to hard. The map I used was Neutron Tempest (Huge Map 9-10 players) that has all allies start in a single system and all the enemies start in another system (2 stars). IMPORTANT: Do not research anything directly from the civilian tree. Build civilian research stations that you need and research the military research that has civilian prerequisites and it will automatically queue the needed civilian research and it wont void your achievement attempt. Additionally during my playthrough, I had all the research I needed either researched or queued up before I won the game, after the game was won I selected keep playing and 10x time to finished research and I got the achievement.
Very helpful hint is to BUY EXOTICS FROM ALLIES!

Ending Achievement note: You can 100% complete all the achievements in this game with 50 hours or less of real play time. How is this? Steam tracks the launcher as time played so leave it open when you go do something else or play another game. I did this for the last 10's of hours.

Hardware - I'm running a capable desktop with an I9-9900k, RTX 3070TI (8GB VRAM), and 64GB of DDR4 ram. Game ran well but I did notice one time this game was using 15 GB of ram with all settings maxed out and on a huge map and many many hours in. This game appears to love ram. While in several hours in game the 10x time lapse started to feel like a 5x.

My Weaker laptop with an AMD Ryzen 7 5800H, AMD Radeon RX 6700M (10GB VRAM), and 64GB of DDR4 ram also ran this game just fine with the same notable time lapse issue when playing on huge maps and well into the game.

I guess I don't really get it. Not really any different from the first one. Only just really slow game loads and glitchy starts. Maybe you guys are having better success but mine is like 50/50 chance it will crash just after the long load in screen. Which then discourages me from trying to load in again and waste my time.

Maybe I am just missing something. Why did I just pay 49.99 (ON SALE!?) For just a crashy Sins of a Solar 1.2. I think I will be stopping my purchases of games in general for a bit this is the second(NEW) game I have bought and been really disappointed. From being buggy to just being a graphics upgrade away from the first I wish I had my 50$ and time back.

cant recommend this game, feels like a paradox studios game with how much content is locked behind a paywayll, fun for the first few playthroughs but gets repetitive quick. Greedy devs have put more effort into the DLCS than base game and thats not saying much considering ho the new planned dlcs are more expensive than the base game and only give a single faction each. Even the minor DLCs for $12 each only offer a single ship per faction, if that. Only pick it up if they do a 75% off sale.
