Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin is a first-person virtual reality puzzle platform video game. The game's story is intended to bridge the events between Psychonauts and Psychonauts 2.
At the end of Psychonauts, Raz is recognized as a great PSI Cadet and is asked to join his tutors as a fully fledged Psychonaut. But as Raz prepares to go home from camp with his father, news arrives that the Grand Head of the Psychonauts (and Lili's father) Truman Zanotto, has been kidnapped. The team, Raz and Lili included, fly off in the Psychonauts' jet to rescue him.

i had to get this game when i first got my vr headset. i really wish the opening song was on spotify because it is so good. seeing all the characters brought to life was great. i did admittedly get stuck at some parts but that's what walkthroughs are for, right?
i think it's a good way to do a vr game, to have the player stationary while using psychic powers to interact instead, i think looking through other character's eyes does this the best

Нажаль в Quest 3 слабувато відчувається занурення в 3Д. На слабшій PSVR об'єм в грі відчувається в рази краще, просто стоїш і роздивляєшся все навколо, як все нереально круто виглядає. І нажаль трохи поганувате керування в грі. Місцями глючне, не можна переключить на геймпад в грі.
It's a neat idea and it is cool to see more of the Psychonauts story, but it isn't all I expected it to be either. It feels good, especially for it being an earlier VR game, so maybe I am just expecting too much as somebody from the future looking back at old VR games. I feel like so much more could have been done with the game being in VR, the trippy mind areas would feel amazing in VR, but it wasn't really done in the way I felt it could have. I am not big of puzzle focused games, but it was still fun to play.
I recommend it if it is on sale. Oh, also, I was able to play this game at 2.5x resolution 120hz on 9060xt (Similar to 5060ti I am pretty sure) and it was running well, so it isn't a hard game to run.

It was alright. Getting it to work through my Meta Quest over PC was a pain depending on how I connected. Virtual remote pc would give map the controls to weird buttons but somehow using Meta's pc link would map them correctly. Either way the VR experience itself was very cool.

The game is short and simple! you have some fun if you like Psychonauts i laugh a lot and have fun it is not like this big game is just one way to resume or explain what happenedafter the end of Psychonauts 1 and before psychonauts 2

Un simpatico passatempo di un paio d'ore da giocare seduti in VR, se non fosse che i controlli per qualsiasi visore che non sia HTC Vive sono un macello che non è mai stato sistemato. Fortunatamente su Steam c'è la possibilità di riconfigurare tutto quanto e quindi, in un modo o nell'altro, se ne esce... Rimane il fatto che per tutta l'avventura è un supplizio non capire se si stia facendo la cosa sbagliata o siano semplicemente i comandi a fare le bizze.
Per il resto [i]PitRoR[/i] si difende decentemente sotto tutti i punti di vista: visivamente riprende la grafica dell'originale opportunamente rimodernata (la medesima di Psychonauts 2); le musiche e il parlato sono eccellenti e gli enigmi rimangono sullo stile del "capisci cosa fare e fallo".
Essendo il gioco poco più di una storia interattiva meriterebbe un voto medio, ma Steam non lo permette ed essendo io un fan dell'originale ho propeso per il positivo... a patto che riusciate a trovarlo a pochissimi euro.

Absolutely wonderful, just as creative as the original Psychonauts. Immersive, beautiful, and a lot of fun. My only complaint it's not longer! However, every moment spent reveals the team's love and enthusiasm for the VR medium. Doublefine is a credit to the art.
Crashes every time I launch when using Steam Link. Double Fine refuse to fix it. Was told Virtual Desktop would be a better alternative, but I'm not paying $25 for a program just to play 1 game (that would've worked better as a NON VR point-&-click).
Save your money. You're better off watching a let's play on YouTube.

To get this game running on my Quest 3. I had to launch Steam VR from inside the quest environment over air link, Steam link would not work for me. Once Steam VR was running inside air link then I launched the game on Steam VR inside my headset. If you see the "outside" of the play space just move your head back in, I found myself inside a bulkhead sometimes. I did receive the Steam achievements. I did pick up this game at $3 and I can't complain about that. In conclusion, I liked this short game, my play through was 2.1 hours.

Моё время растянуто, потому что я запускал давно на старом железе, на новом же пк куча времени это подождать когда игра "отвиснет" при запуске, она почему-то очень любит зависнуть спустя минуту, потом ты ждешь как будто вечность, хотя там минуты 2 примерно, но потом идёт без заминок. Или возможно ей просто не нравится, что её запускают не на Vivo, сорри что купил себе китайский виар, у Аликс вон нет с этим проблем.
Отличное спин-офф дополнение к двум основным частям. Короткая, но захватывающая история с прекрасным визуалом.
В игре нет русского языка, но есть хороший русификатор в сети. Так что если Вам сложно переводить внутриигровой сленг - решение есть.
Единственный минус это управление телекинезом, можно было бы оставить управление просто на захват и движение руками, а не через стики на контроллерах.

If Rhombus or Ruin has 0 fans I am dead. Playing this for yourself is so much better of an experience than just simply watching pleeeeease play this game
Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin é um jogo simples, mas muito satisfatório para quem gosta da franquia.
O melhor conselho para quem se interessar em comprá-lo é: ajuste as expectativas. Esse jogo é um point-and-click num ambiente VR, longe das experiências dos jogos principais da série, que são focados em plataforma.
Mas a Double Fine faz essa experiência com perfeição: o humor do estúdio está ali, o visual está belíssimo, e é um refresco ver algo a mais desses personagens, já que provavelmente nunca mais teremos novas histórias nesse mundo.
Eu gostaria de ter tido acesso a ele antes de Psychonauts 2, para poder matar a saudade de Raz e entender todas as referência que existe naquele jogo, mas enfim... dê uma chance e vá de peito aberto, que será uma delícia jogar.

Only critique is I feel a couple of the "travel from point A to B" segments were a bit slow and tedious, but other than that its a fantastic under 2 hour game for the franchise!

I came into this game not knowing anything about the characters. I always heard about the series growing up. It's not worth twenty dollars and I'm a vr enthusiast. Get it on sale like I did. Although I played better $5 phonevr games it's not bad. Voice acting is superb. Short runtime which isn't a bother. Graphics are pretty good not great. The style of the characters really shines however. Gameplay mechanics are really meh. I like the non-handholding tho. The boss fight sucks handsdown. I would say this would be great for a young child to preteen due to the less challenging puzzles also i dont think you can lose in this game. Also a person who suffers from motion sickness would be better suited because it's stationary. Also another gripe is when moving my head around by leaning within the playspace it will say out of play area. I try not to shame vr games because there aren't many vr gamers out there but this isn't worth twenty bucks b. I will say though the style and charm of the characters does have me interested in playing the non-vr platformers though so that's why I recommend the purchase and would place my thumb in the upper middle!
A cute addition to the Psychonauts universe and a genuinely enjoyable VR experience. Treat it like an extended interactive spy-thriller film and you'll have a great time - the entire experience is around 2 hours, 2.5 if you want to replay any chapters for achievements.

was a good game. It's a short and sweet VR experience, that can be played by anyone with a VR Headset.
Is it worth $20? No, Absolutely not. For an hour of gameplay $20 is too much. Get it for $4 on Humble Bundle.
But, negativity aside, was it fun?
Yeah!
Some of the puzzles were not explained too well, and you constantly have to listen to raz's subtle hints, wich can get annoying.
After finishing it i felt like i wanted more of Psychonauts VR, but that'll probably take another 12 years.

If you play with a Quest device, CONTROLLS WILL NOT WORK. i used a xbox controller to play the game (wich is fine too) because i just couldn't be bothered to set up the controls.
Also, USE ALVR IF YOU HAVE A QUEST HEADSET. IT WILL NOT WORK WITH STEAM LINK. IT WILL TRY TO RENDER THE GAME AT 2 BILLION x 2 BILLION PIXELS AND CRASH ITSELF.
Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin is the second installment of Psychonauts released in 2005. This game picks up immediately after the first, with better graphics while continuing the charm and humor of it's predecessor.
Pros:
- Graphics have made a significant jump and it's wonderful to experience this world in VR.
- The voice acting is excellent as always.
- Controls are easy to learn.
- Soundtrack is enjoyable. Reminds me of the VR game I Expect you to Die.
- Same charm and humor as the original
Negatives:
- The game is incredibly short. I finished it in 3 hours and only have four achievements left to obtain. I took my time with it.
- Price tag is a little high, but if you enjoy Psychonauts, I would strongly suggest buying this game as the next game, Psychonauts 2 is a direct sequel to this game.
- You don't have all your powers given to you from the start. You'll learn one, use it to solve an area, and then move to another.
Final Verdict:
I recommend this game if you're a fan of Psychonauts and enjoy VR. I don't have an idea of what this game cost when released, but it sits at $20 at the time of this review. I wouldn't pay that for this game. Get it on sale and you wont be disappointed.
Rhombus of Ruin is a charming short VR adventure that every Psychonauts enjoyer should play at least once. While it comes with a lot of issues shared with many similar PSVR1 ports, the writing is just as good as its predecessor and the vibes are immaculate. Just give up playing it with any kind of VR Controllers and use a traditional pad instead, the game will work MUCH better. Also don't wanna be dramatic but i would literally die for Lili

One of those VR games that's basically just a tech demo. It's not really worth $20 but what is there is nice. The characters feel just as quirky as the first game, and the story even fills in a gap regarding a certain underutilized character from the first game. If you're a fan of Psychonauts, this is worth getting on sale.

Но всё же "Сайхонавт в Ромбе Руин" это как и другие части приятная доля психоделики, вам дают свободу перемещения только вашего взора по головам (внутри разумов) персонажей в небольших комнатках с целью решения простеньких паззлов или перемещения вашего сознания в следующую область (например, по рыбам в воде), всё легко решается без гайдов, агент "Раз" также умеет делать мысленные телекинетические штуки как толчок/перемещение людей/предметов, т.е. очень много Интерактивности - можно всё тыкать, ну и мы можем стрелять лазером из башки и нагревать вещи ближе к концу игры, ну и также будет небольшой босс, требующий повторение пары действий, он же вроде является одним из персонажем, лор которого будет раскрыт чуть глубже, если вы фанат вселенной и вам это нужно.. а ну и забавный комедийный твист перед титрами.
It's a pretty fun game, but I would really only recommend it if you like Psychonauts and want the 100% full experience. Rhombus of Ruin is pretty easy to complete, achievements and all, but it's actually really fun regardless. Plus it connects Psychonauts 1 and 2 much more directly (It's not the most necessary, however, so don't feel like you NEED it.)

Really good game, puzzles are fun and you get a good boss battle at the end.
Length feels just about right for a one-session experience (2-3h).
Very well optimized for comfort, I couldn't imagine someone getting motion sick from this, because all the motion is teleports. It also runs very well.
Cons:
Didn't get used to the controls, lots of buttons to remember in a very short time, and also you cannot turn by using the joystick.
Occasionally got stuck searching for codes in the level for longer that I would have liked.
Interesting couple hour VR experience. Index controllers work with custom configurations. Why they decided to make such an important part of the story a vr game despite the others being platformers is beyond me. Worth it on sale.

Very cool experience, though try to find it on sale if that happens at all, due to the short runtime. Its basic gameplay wise, but for psychonauts fans having a physical presence in that world is a really valuable feeling. It was a great re-entry point to the psychonauts franchise after so long, and probably maintains the atmosphere of the original game quite a bit better than the full sequel does, though even by this point some of the darker edges of psychonauts were beginning to be sanded off.

Does not work with Meta Quest 2. Edit - I got it working, but it took some tinkering with Meta Quest and Steam VR settings.
Steam really needs to add a meh or middling option for their review system. Rhombus of Ruin is a sweet mini intetmission for the true sequel gme and it showcases a lot of the innovations and improvements of graphics for the first new Psychonauts game in over 12 years with smoother models, great animation oozing with personality, and beautiful environmental setpieces retaining the whimsical and odd style. The writing hasn't skipped a beat either but the gameplay is a major downgrade. You're extremely restricted, meant to be static unless you constantly utilize Clairvoyance to peer through the eyes of motionless aquatic life and returning characters. You're introduced to your abilities at the very start of the game then immediately lose all but Clairvoyance, unlocking them back one at a time as you progress. Unfortunately by the time you have them all back, the game is right at the end and you utilize them all once for a very basic "battle" then never have to use it again for like the last 15-20 minutes of the game. It's very much a VR point and click game but seems like it's missing more of the experimental aspects you'd find from P&C, feeling far more linear and that's fine, but it just doesn't feel satisfying or fun to play at all.

great little 1.5 psychonaunts the puzzle bits are a tad difficult as they did not stand out as clearly, alot of playtime will be from pure confusing, i took a break to recharge my hands. if you can find the puzzle bits it's super short.
like a few main keypoints the music box is broken but this isn't said, the handle is missing making you think you need to find the handled no no, you need to put the music box on the desk and put a flea inside of to fix it. so when in the ever next part she says make a bomb pile, i assumed the only bomb needed was the only active one. no you really had to make a bomb pile

This is a pretty short side-adventure in the broader universe, but it strangely has very broad implications for the story of the Psychonauts 2. It's fun to play, but it's bizarre that the story is gated behind VR hardware.
Ford yelled at me for using Virtual Desktop without an ethernet cable and if that is not the most psychonauts/tim schafer thing in the entire universe i really dont know what else is
overall this is one of those VR games- if you're a VR enthusiast you know the kind im talking about. back in 2016-2018 when VR was new and exciting, but nobody wanted to invest real money into making a bespoke gameplay loop so its just a short little adventure game where the characters get close and you can pick up things and throw them around. Batman Arkham VR, Job Simulator, ♥♥♥♥ even Danganronpa had a short stupid VR spinoff thing.
fun if you're a psychonauts fan, but if you dont have VR this isnt exactly a hot app. worth borrowing a friends headset or something for an afternoon.
Don't have any doubt, this game is an Psychonauts game, not just a weird token VR pitstop.
For a almost decade old VR game, it holds up. Its a completed seated VR experience and for what it its, it works just fine. You don't need a motion controller of any sorts, everything is control with 4 degrees of movement with some leniency on the 6th if you so please.
That being said you definitely shouldn't play this on a phoneVR if that's all you have + a controller/keyboard. You can definitely get away with doing that but you'll be doing yourself a disservice.
Aesthetically the game holds up SUPER well, thing isn't just a bit chunky of a install for no reason, this game is made at a higher fideltly compare to the previous game and thanks for VR you can easily see it.
Gameplay wise its serviceable and not painful, you should be told that you can move things forward by grabbing it then blasting it if needby, I figure that out a bit late myself.
Overall, would recommend to others, feel free to wait for a sale and yes you probably should play this yourself before playing Psychonauts 2 eventually, or guess you can be lame and watch someone else play it through a bit-crunch video/stream. That would also be a disservice to yourself.
I feel this game being made the way it is is kinda of a blessing. Even though I said against resorting to it earlier, this game being simple and by result being accessible is a good thing for everyone. Even though I doubt my enthusiasm at times, its a good thing
because Psychonauts, at least the first one is in my opinion a bucketlist game.
Having more of this series is a good things as well, and even if I cannot speak for it yet, people been waiting awfully long for the second game to exist. The bridge between the gap between the first than second not being inaccessible is nice if you think about it that way.

Да, игра атмосферу психонавтов передаёт, в этом плане она приятная, но я прошёл первые 2 уровня, и когда выпадет возможность ещё пограть в VR, то попробую. Саму игру порекомендую, но чисто для фанатов психонавтов как я, думаю игра на любителя.
Их плюсов отмечу не плохо реализованные способности: телекинез, переселение в чужое тело, пси бласт и пирокинез. А как работает тот же пирокинез я не сразу допёр, но когда понял, то мне понравилось.
Экспириенс интересный, жаль только что в первом, после обучения уровние дали пользоваться лишь пересенением.
I really enjoyed this game, although the 3rd section almost 'ruined' it for me as that particular puzzle (Im talked about fluid positions unlocking controls, WTF Tim?) was too obtuse. Otherwise good Psychonauts fun.

Pretty good VR puzzle game. The controls are designed for a traditional controller and feel somewhat awkward on motion controls, but it's not a deal breaker. The gimmick of jumping between perspectives is used well and it has some cool visuals. The writing and design are hilarious as with most Double Fine games.

Это по сути квест, как в старые добрые, но в виаре. Если смириться с тем что походить и потрогать всякое не дадут, то вообще-то кайф - всё, за что любим Психонавтов, тут имеется. Делалось явно с душой, за что респект и спасибо
У некоторых, как я видел, бывают проблемы, это не удивительно - игра очень ранняя и какие-то конфликты с оборудованием могут быть. У меня с Pico 4 только аналоги странно работали, потому что видимо управление задумывалось под тачпады, но это не критично. А в остальном всё ну идеально отполировано, ни чуть не лагает, и выглядит, и работает шикарно

This is a very charming little 2.5 hour adventure. If you've enjoyed the Psychonauts characters and own a VR headset, it's a must play. Great little puzzles, fun manipulation of objects, and solid animation. I wish it were longer. Grab it on sale for sure!

It really REALLY pains me to give this a negative review but there's just too many issues. I played on a 3080 setup with psvr2 so it ran flawlessly. However, there is some visibility of the main menu during the entire game which meant having to have the eye pieces further away from my eyes to obscure it. From the looks of things, when the game engaged just two rings for eyes appear over the title screen. It's hard to describe but it's definitely a software fault sadly.
For the record, I really love psychonauts. I love the story and everything about the other games so I've wanted to play this forever but just not had the opportunity until now. I know it's an early VR game, but playing in 2025 the gameplay just isn't very fun or intuitive.
The story is nice, but only for fans, absolutely not an entry point to the series as it's set between the two main games. There are also some beautiful vistas in the game, being cartoons, on modern hardware the game stands up really well visually, but honestly this is for the hardcore fans only and even then I'd say it's a bit too broken to recommend playing over just watching a play through.
Get it if you are a completionist fan of psychonauts and also be aware you're going into a very early VR game so controls are confusing.
This was a fun 2.5 HR romp. Was surprised it was a direct sequel, like literally takes place 5 minutes after the first game. It is a lot more fun if you are a die-hard Psychonauts fan, or playing immediately after the first game. The game plays more like a modern adventure game, where you switch your place/camera view in the world by "jumping" into other people's heads, and perform psychic actions from there. Each area is a puzzle to solve/move to the next. The environments are really cool and highly stylized. The humor is good, I think it is definitely worth a go, and a worthy sequel/experience to the story and character of the first game. Played on PSVR2 on 3090ti. Only had an issue with overlapping textures on inside fringes of FOV. The linked thread below fixed it with a few lines of code in the .ini file. It's a fairly nice little VR experience and even better if you're a fan of Psychonauts. It's 100% worth it if you're buying it on sale or as part of one of the bundles.
The only issue I had with the game are the controls. This game is 6 years old now and was created with the HTC Vive Pro in mind, especially with the controls. There's no way you can rebind them from within the game, so you need to play around with the buttons on your controller to figure out what they do and if they're usable.
The game worked well on my Pico Neo 3 Link, I just had to figure out the controls.

Before I can praise this game, I need to address the HUGE elephant in the room — [u][b]this game DOES NOT support Steam Link[/b][/u], which is just baffling. That's like selling a game on a PlayStation and asking the player to buy an Xbox Kinect.
To play this game, you either need to buy a third-party software called Virtual Desktop OR download the necessary software to use QuestLink.
Hopefully, it goes without saying, this is ridiculous. If it's on Steam, you should be allowed to play it with Steam Link. And for this reason alone, I can't recommend this. If you're asking for money, troubleshooting and extra software shouldn't be necessary to play your game.
[h3]Now, my thoughts about the game...[/h3]
It's okay! I had a LOT of fun. The characters feel very alive — they have a TON of voice lines and react to pretty much everything you can do to them, very interactive. The humor is still great, it's more in line with Psychonauts 2, so it's still pretty funny- but lacks the dark and sadistic humor from the first game, but that is to be expected.
The visual effects used to illustrate psychic powers look amazing in virtual reality, but describing them is like trying to explain colors to a blind person, you really have to experience it for yourself.
My only criticism is that the game relies A LOT on making you play Where’s Waldo. The core gameplay involves entering people's minds, seeing their perspective, and using that to solve puzzles. But sometimes, there aren’t really any puzzles at all — you just have to find the right person to enter, and that gets repetitive VERY quickly.
Something that caught my attention is how this game handles jumpscares. I'm not going to spoil it, but when it happens you'll know exactly what I'm talking about.
Overall, If you don't mind the troubleshooting, and you find this game on sale, I would say go for it! The game is very charming, and it definitely deserves a try!

Si te gustan las aventuras de Tim Schaffer no deberías perdértelo, en algún momento era como estar dentro de una película de Tim Burton.

Это очень добротно сделанный point-and-click quest или что-то вроде того. Инструментов взаимодействия с миром у тебя гораздо больше, чем просто клик мышкой, а 3д даёт дополнительную глубину игровому процессу.
Единственный минус игры - она очень короткая.
A wonderful Tim Schafer directed VR adventure in the style of classic Lucasarts games. So creatively and beautifully put together.
A short point-and-click adventure set in the Psychonauts universe. For some strange reason, I couldn’t launch the game directly through SteamVR without it crashing. Launching the executable directly or using Quest Link worked fine, but it wouldn’t track my playtime or achievements through Steam. My workaround was to first launch Quest Link and then launch SteamVR through and then finally run the game.
All the characters you’ve grown to love from the original Psychonauts return with the same voice actors and nothing feels out of place. The gameplay, even by VR standards, is pretty basic. You just look at the objects you want to move to or interact with—no need to aim with the controllers. You can also play the entire game seated.
You can easily finish the game in about two hours, so I’d recommend getting it on sale.

if youre a fan of psychonauts like me and have access to a vr system, definitely check it out, its a pretty straightforward point and click, got done with it in 3 hours but was engaged the whole time! Lot of fun!
This is a fun little VR experience for fans of Psychonauts (once you get it working)
First of all I love Psychonauts 1 and 2 so that probably makes me favourably inclined to this title. On the other hand I hate random point and click games, and Rhombus of Ruin is very much a point and click adventure where doing somewhat random things to progress is the order of the day. Mercifully, the puzzles are not stupidly random so it's not too frustrating to play and manages to stay fun throughout. With the charming cast, fantastic humour, awesome art style and fabulous storytelling pulling you into the experience it's easy to have a good time.
It is rather short. I think I completed it in 2 hours. That isn't so much a criticism but a statement, because those 2 hours were fun and the game did not outlast its welcome.
The main problem with the game is technical. Steam didn't track my playtime because it won't launch via SteamVR on a Meta Quest 2. I get a low level fatal error when I try. If I launch the game through the quest link app, however, it runs just fine. By so doing though, you must pay a price: achievements are inactive and trading cards aren't unlocked due to the play time tracking issue. Although this is annoying, these issues don't effect how enjoyable the game is. The main concern is that the game doesn't just work on SteamVR, you get a scare that you have bought a duff product, you end up spending time having to go to community forums etc. to find out if things can be salvaged and then faffing about with technical nonsense instead of just enjoying the game.
Overall, I had a good time. Given the game's length you probably want to get this at a discount, but it is definitely worth playing, especially if you love Psychonauts.

very mid to bad game with a very cool final (or i guess penultimate) section(the part where you do the actual psychonauting). but it was fun enough and spending time with these characters is always nice and worth the 2 euros i dropped on it.
VR doesn't get enough love, THis is a fantastic experience coming from someone who's loved the series for a long time. PICK THIS GAME UP. IT'S INCREDIBLE

The vr game set in a world of a game I loved... I waited to play 2 till I got vr and could play this game, don't make the mistake I made, just watch it played on youtube and be done with it, this game is an overly simplistic point and click adventure, with 3 points where you will get stuck for a while.
don't get me wrong, I personally don't regret buying this and playing it, the humor, the characters, I love it all, its fun how they play with scale, its amazing how the artstyle is even better with depth, and further annoys me how games don't have a vr version if only just for viewing things in 3d.
but this game, its effectively a tech demo for vr, and given how I can constantly see the menu to the left and right, a very dated tech demo that's borderline broken, disorientating as hell (not in a good way, in a I have a headache way, likely at least in part caused by the menu always being at the sides), and probably broken on modern vr controls/headsets.
my god the controls of looking at what I needed to point to, and 3/4ths the time its not going the right way...
I wish there was more here, I wish there was gamplay, I wish this was more then a tech demo, I wish some things would be brought up to modern vr/options would be added, but nope...

Coming back after playing 2 and finally getting setup to be able to play this game. Yeah. You could fully skip this and miss nothing. Great game, too short, not important to play. mermaid coach is peak.

Highly recommend you only buy when on sale, or the The Complete Psychonauts Series Bundle is a good deal as long as you are missing either Psychonauts 1 or 2. But hard to justify the $20 pricetag for what you get in this game alone.

short but VERY cool. if you have vr i highly reccomend playing this inbetween 1 and 2. this game also features an insanely awesome james bond type intro song / movie.
as for what to expect,
the game is more like a point and click and you'll have to get used to interacting with the world using your head rather than your hands. you get lots of time to figure things out in the jet, so its ok! the game provides verbal hints if you get stuck but it got a little annoying hearing the characters talk when i was just trying to mess around. overall the plot was awesome and it was such a cool experience to go through.
The controls especially on Quest 2/3 controllers are not good for this game, it makes you click down the sticks since it was built around the Valve Index couple that along with the part of the opening UI that floats just outside your vision to the point where you can see it but not clearly and i don't recommend this
It's hardly even a game, its more just a click and point game in VR, not worth it imo
If you are playing with an Index, prepare for a neck workout looking around. Had some trouble getting the game to register where exactly I was looking but overall a fun experience. First VR game that has made me get motion sick though, might be a slog for some but if you are a fan of the series you can suffer through.
Two problems I had with the game
- The controls (Valve Index) feel weird at times and scrolling through the menu is more than annoying.
- A small piece of the main menu stayed on the left and right side of the screen throughout my entire playthrough. I wasn't able to capture it in the screenshot. I checked several other games and the problem is unique to this one.
The second breaks the immersion a bit, but overall it was still a very enjoyable experience. It is going during various sales very cheaply (up to 90% off), so if you see it with such discount you should definitely get it. I wouldn't say it's the best VR experience there on Steam, but it's one of these very good ones that nearly anyone will enjoy.
VR System Used: an OG HTC Vive from back when SteamVR was a new thing. (Yes, it actually took this long for enough of the stars to align for me to get to use this thing properly.) Anyway, the game worked fine with no need for extra steps, but I did notice guides for getting the game working right on newer VR systems (since there seems to be issues, I guess?) so keep that in mind if you have a different system.
I played Psychonauts on the Playstation 2 and loved it so I might be a bit of a fanboy. I loved the art, the music, the writing, the setting, the acting...basically all of it. Which is why I played it again on Steam. (Even got the 100%.) So, did this VR experience live up to what I'd hoped for? Yes! Granted, this game is completely different genre but that's no hardship since can you even imagine doing all those spins and acrobatics in first person VR? I get dizzy just thinking about it. But apart from the genre, everything else I loved about Psychonauts as a thing (a series? a universe?) was present. So, full marks there.
As for the game itself, I guess I'd describe it as a kind of VR Point and Click Puzzle Adventure, except there's no inventory and the interface is super easy to understand and use. There's no obvious way to "lose" that I noticed, you just gotta keep trying and thinking and experimenting. Difficulty-wise, I only ran into one really hard puzzle, but I figured it out eventually.
The only issue, game design-wise, that I had was that in the later levels it sometimes got a bit harder to understand the voice lines, but the game does have subtitles in the options menu, so that helped. As for the length (which for me clocked in at about 3.7 hours), you shouldn't judge a game based on its length. You should judge it by "was it fun?" and I had fun with this game and enjoyed every bit of it.
Overall: I recommend this game!
