Juego de acción pura con uno que otro puzzle pero simple, Marlow Briggs es un juego super frenético, siento que va directo al grano hay un pequeño delay al momento de moverse en estructuras pero se soluciona presionando el botón consecutivamente como se hacia a la antigua, me trae nostalgia a como eran los juegos de antes, por eso lo recomiendo además esta muy entretenido lleno de pelea, bichos y explosiones

I LOVE IT AND MADE THE 100%!!! A class b movie made game, really cheese. Same feeling as the God of War games from PS2/PSP but with less quicktimes. Decent powers, great weapons and environments.

And the mayan mythology, you might think that, since the Mayans were gore fans, the game would be super bloody, if that's what you were looking for, the game is not so bloody.

I can confidently put Marlow Briggs on my list of games that many consider to be mediocre that I loved. Talk about a wolf in sheep’s clothing. I went in expecting a sloppily put together God of War (GoW) knockoff, and while it copies GoW so shamelessly, it’s anything but sloppily put together. ZootFly nearly understands everything that makes the GoW formula extremely solid—from the punchy combat feel to the varied combos available for each weapon variation or magic attack that you will unlock and can upgrade throughout the game. It all flows together nicely and makes for a combat system that feels way more thought out than I expected.

However, the downtime between combat sections is where I feel a little mixed. Perhaps that sounds harsh, as the platforming and puzzle sections are pretty good. The set pieces are okay, but it’s the helicopter sections that drag the game down a bit for me, which is odd since the core combat is strong enough to carry the entire game. So, they feel unnecessary. I could also whine about the story here and its butt-ugly cutscenes, but if the game itself doesn’t seem to care about it, why should I? Although hearing Steve Blum a lot as the Mask was kind of pleasant (that voice actor really was everywhere during the 7th gen).

Overall, I was pleasantly surprised with Marlow Briggs. I definitely give it a strong recommendation if you are craving more solid GoW style games and if Dante’s Inferno or Castlevania: Lords of Shadows somehow hasn’t filled you up enough.

Ritmo rápido con una buena producción y un sistema de combate bastante competente en opciones pero un poco tosco en su ejecución, con varias armas y combinaciones de ataques. Se ve entorpecido por un control no del todo preciso y algunas dudosas colisiones. Recomendable para quien no busque algo muy complejo y quiera pasar unas horas yendo de una escena de acción a otra sin mayores alardes.

Marlow Briggs es un bombero de visita en el lugar de trabajo de su novia, Eva Torres, quien lo quiere dejar tras averiguar las verdaderas intenciones de su jefe, Heng Long. Pero éste no está dispuesto a perder a su experta lingüística. Asesinar al propio Marlow parece una convincente razón para que no se le ocurra volver a decir no, pero su error es utilizar un artefacto para ello. Una antigua máscara Maya resucita a Marlow para convertirlo en un Guerrero Sagrado, con poder suficiente para rescatar a Eva y detener a Long y sus secuaces.

Viene con voces en inglés y textos en español.

El título no pierde el tiempo con presentaciones y circunstancias, es una pieza de acción tras otra, a cada cual más fantasma que la anterior con explosiones, saltos imposibles y algo de mitología maya para justificarlo. Resulta medianamente entretenido, con una buena producción en las cinemáticas y la música, aunque muchas de las conversaciones tienen lugar en los momentos de acción, haciendo que sea un poco complicado a la hora de prestar atención a lo que dicen, aunque el guion es bastante flojo con lo que no se echan mucho de menos.

Es un juego lineal de acción donde no tenemos ningún control sobre la cámara con algunas secciones de plataformas, lo que puede ocasionar algún problema con determinados saltos ya que es de esos donde el personaje se mueve en la misma dirección aunque la vista cambie. Al menos es bastante generoso con los puntos de control, con lo que nunca perderemos mucho tiempo entre un intento y otro, además de contar con tres dificultades: fácil, normal y difícil.

Al ir avanzado iremos consiguiendo armas y hechizos, cuatro de cada uno. Existe un sistema de experiencia con el que podremos mejorar cada arma y hechizo, ofreciendo un aumento de daño y nuevas combinaciones de ataque. Además, mejorar las armas aumenta la vida máxima y mejorar los hechizos el maná máximo.

El combate no es muy complejo. Tenemos un ataque rápido, otro fuerte, esquivar y protegernos (además de los hechizos). Existen bastantes combinaciones al ir alternando los ataques rápidos y fuertes, muy similar a los primeros God of War de la época de PS2 (es básicamente un clon de éstos). Lo único es que el control no es muy preciso, con algunas colisiones dudosas y muros invisibles, incluso un mando no resulta tan cómodo como debería, la sensación de cierta “flotabilidad” está presente de principio a fin. Además, no hay forma de saber qué ataques puedes bloquear y cuáles no y el esquive carece de fotogramas de invencibilidad, lo que no ayuda con la posibilidad de [i]stunlock[/i], que te golpeen y antes de que termine la animación de recuperación, vuelvan a darte. Esto ocurre con bastante frecuencia en algunos de los últimos encuentros del juego. Al menos resulta entretenido gracias al ritmo que lleva, la fácil accesibilidad y la diversidad de escenarios.

No existe mucho que hacer más allá de la campaña. Hay un modo Desafío donde podemos repetir los desafíos que vamos desbloqueando al avanzar en la historia. Y la posibilidad de encontrar un coleccionable en cada nivel a cambio de experiencia extra.

Pese al tiempo que tiene, no he tenido problemas a la hora de ejecutarlo o que detecte un mando. Lo único es que las opciones gráficas son muy escasas, poco más podemos hacer que cambiar la resolución.

La campaña debería durar unas 6 horas. Una vez terminado se desbloquea una nueva dificultad: Tío Duro.

TL;DR:
It's Microsoft first attempt to replicate and clone God of War. It was a fun game, but a failure in their eyes. Ported to PC thanks to 505 Games.

Previously played on Xbox 360 via the Xbox Live Arcade. A sh!t service now, but then...it was something.

Summary:
You play as Marlow Briggs (voiced by Arif S. Kinchen known for Pierce Washington in Saints Row 2-GOOT) a smokejumper who vacationing at a Mayan archaeological dig, to accompanied his fiancee Eva Torres. Then her boss, Henry Long (voiced by James Hong known for Mr. Ping in Kung Fu Panda & Uncle Po in Sleeping Dogs) plans to re-awaken the ancient sh!t in this one. You then get revived by King Tep (Steve Blum, you know who he is). Basically, 80s Action films vibe, mixed with God of War gameplay.

Gameplay:
Standard Gold of War Trilogy stuff, you basically have Jump, Basic & Heavy Attacks and several moveset that makes you dance with your weapons. Also, the Right analog function for Roll/Dash (Yep, God of War gameplay).

Pros:
It's a fun experience and if you like the God of War Trilogy. It's Microsoft/Xbox flavor into it. It's not so bad and I highly enjoy the humor dialogue with King Tep. The combat feels enjoyable, traversal is good and there is not much else to say about the pros.

Cons:
Aside from the Predictable nature of the writings, Some traversal puzzle are downright confusing and it can often be annoying when there is enemies involved. For example, there was this Ruins puzzle, then the fly enemies would just fly around you attempting to stop it, which you need to kill them first.

Also, the Giant Scorpion enemy is a joke! After you ride them as the last enemy (which often the case), you need to finish them off manually. There is no quick kill option (apart from throwing enemies off the edge) so that sucks.

Verdict:
It's a good game, but a very obvious God of War clone. Sadly, Microsoft just kill this studio because of the game reception. ZootFly could've continue their Hack n'Slash development into something! It's a shame, because this game really needs a successor.

Oh well, at least thanks to 505, this game is saved.

Vendo algumas reviews aqui e uma boa parte do pessoal xingando o jogo, mas por incrivel que pareça ate que ele não é tão ruim, a gameplay lembra bastante god of war, dante's inferno e o jogo do motoqueiro fantasma de ps2, é um hack n slash no sentido mais literal, a historia é mediana, daria uns 5/10 mas funciona pro que o game se propõem, o protagonista fica conversando com uma voz que vem de algum artefato magico, e isso me lembrou bastante aquele jogo do deadpool, dito isso, esse game serve mais pra passar o tempo, se você ta sem vontade de jogar um jogo grande com historia mirabolante e só quer algo pra passar o tempo, eu te recomendo.

ps: por incrivel que pareça esse jogo não tem muitos puzzles, e os poucos que tem da pra você resolver em 5 minutos.

Крайне наивный по геймплею и подаче экшон... И в этом, по сути, его плюс.
Бежим вперёд, крутим комбы, наслаждаемся сюжетом аля боевик девяностых. И не скучно и не напряжно - почти идеальный баланс для отдохнуть и переключиться.

К сожалению ближе к концу игра становится абсолютно нудной: мобы - губки для урона, подача сюжета приедается, катсцены начинают раздражать. Когда прошёл титры - вообще хотел сделать отрицательный отзыв...

Но поспал, стал добрее и решил что комплексно, с учётом всего, - игра хорошая.

This game is the closest you'll get to playing the older Greek god of war on PC. (As of writing this review)

It is by far the cloniest of clone God of War games; this game does nothing new with the genre, just copies GOW 1 and 2, and still doesn't reach any of their level either in weapons feedback or level aesthetic. It's the definition of mid.

Grab it on sale, even though I enjoyed this game for what it is and there is fun to be had here; it's just way too average a GOW clone. It's best a 5, maybe a 6/10. Grab it one time, and you can have around 5-7 hrs' worth of mindless fun.

Diversão curta, mas vale a pena pro preço pago (Dois reais e algo), difícil achar um jogo interessante e bom nesse preço, e achei esse que eu gostei bastante, não é um super jogo que amei mas foi legal jogar e passar um tempinho nele, fácil de platinar mas não vou porque não quero 😃

Sobre desempenho o jogo rodou de forma descente, únicos problemas sofridos foram bugs do personagem escalando paredes invisíveis que aconteceu muito então acho que é bug normal, mas não atrapalhava tanto a gameplay.

Pra quem quer um jogo para passar um tempo, recomendo esse, é legalzinho pra uma zerada rápida.

game goes from 0 to 1000 in the first minutes of the game and does not stop.
although dialog the from the mask can be repetitive at times when in combat he has he's funny moments with Marlow same with Marlow himself combat is basic but fun enough only complaint is some are the enemies are a little boring and sometimes a pain to deal with when there grouped up.
all in all i recommend this to any one who want a fun time.

Годоварлик завёрнутый в сюжет приключенческого фильма категории Б. Терпеть не могу годоварлики, но люблю фильмы категории Б -)
Видно, что бюджет был мизерный и авторы экономили, как могли. Есть парочка крышелётных сцен (Сереза и Доминик Торетто смахнули слезу гордости), всё остальное сделано в виде облёта камеры статичных сцен с прикольным внутрикадровым монтажом. Местами пережали с облётами и сцены длятся СЛИШКОМ долго.
Выполнена игра эстетично. За некоторые локации и сцены художники окружений заслужили прибавку к зарплате.

В геймплей авторы решили затолкать побольше, да погуще. Помимо основного рубилова есть то, что игра называет испытаниями, мы же это называем мини-играми. Есть и трататушки на турелях, простите труэлях; и скролл-шутер на самолётиках и побегушки в стиле Крэша Бандикута. Чу-чу и Аку-Аку.

Присутствует и дженк. Непрогружающиеся ассеты, оверлей прицела залезает на кат-сцену в секции с турелью; Марлоу отказывается цепляться за лианы; промпты от QTE не пропадают слишком долго.
Схватить врага и подобрать маску на одну кнопку... Пытаешься схватить врага, чтобы его загипнотизировать, а этот придурок автоматически приклеивается к маске рядом >___<

Ну, а в основном рубилове - все типичные болячки годоварликов: хит-спонджевые враги с околобесконечным гиперармором. На хардкоре это превращается в лютую душку ближе к концу.

В целом, слешерок на вечерок. Хорошего в ней сильно больше, чем плохого, свою порцию удовольствия получил. Игру к ознакомлению рекомендую -)

Budget God of War (PS2).
Surprisingly good.

Nothing amazing, but works and lasts a good amount of time.
Story is full of overused tropes, villian is cheesy.
Puzzles exist but are mostly about pushing buttons in a set amount of time.

Gameplay is very similar to God of War/Dante's Inferno.
Average XXX/XXY combos.
Magic is rather bad, as all 4 magic spells are area explosions that drain all your energy, so you can only use it once before needing a recharge.

Ok weapon variation, but you might want to stick to the default weapon as it has the best damage/range balance.

Lots of challanges across the game, but they only give you experience to boost your weapons.
It gives you experience so constantly that you usually have enough to max a weapon (2 levels) as soon as you get them.

Has a problem with invincibility. The LACK of it.
Your dodge is nearly useless as you can get hit while dodging.
Your magic spells lock you in place, but you can still get hit.
Blocking has a delay and you can't block or dodge mid combo.
This makes the entire combat to bumrush the enemy, hit them twice, dodge, and hit again. The hammer makes it easy as it can stunlock enemies.

Not very hard, but can get a bit unfair at some points with the precise platforming with locked camera and the large amount of enemies.

Had a glitch once where the game got softlocked as a cutscene didn't happen, but reloading an early save made it work.

An ok budget game, lasts 8 hours or so. Gets very cheap often and is worth a look.

It's classic God of War with a less serious tone. It's fast paces spectacle on deliberately framed intricate set pieces that hold up pretty well visually.

Hack and slash gameplay with four weapons (plus projectile attack) that you'll mix and match to extend combos. Platforming, puzzles and mini games break up the fighting at a timely manner.

It's all good fun. About the only nit pick I really have is those posed action shots the game throws as a segue between story beats. The frame is held too long and doesn't fit the pacing of the rest of the game. Eventually, I just started skipping them. On the whole I enjoyed this game more than GOW 3. Definitely worth the five bucks regularly and one dollar on sale.

It's okay for the spectacle but the gameplay is just a God of war clone but blocking isn't instant (so parrying projectiles doesn't work instantly and the tutorial teaches you wrong), dodging has no i-frames, and all magic just covers the whole screen in an AoE and you're not invulnerable for most of it and unable to see anything.

Just play an actual god of war game on rpcs3, they're easier than ever to emulate, where blocking and dodging are actually functional, and magic serves more purpose than just damage and can be used more often. Also not a lot of enemies to fight, they opted for fewer enemies with more health, it's a slog. Higher difficulties just increase the health, no extra enemies to fight or anything. Lazy as hell.

Is it better than the average third person dad simulator sony moviegame? Sure but that's a low bar.

Weird game, you are rushing to the end from start to finish and you can feel it and see it by how many weapons you have left to dicover in the blacked out upgrade menu. You can also see where the studio cut corners with slideshow cutscenes instead of normal ones, minimal platforming/mini games that feel unessessary and pudding, also no visual settings available whatsoever.

And still, the cheesy evil-jackie-chan-vs-clueless-will-smith-plot is so dumb I find it kind of enjoyable. The weapons look cool and the combos are varied, visually impressive and plentiful. The graphics look great for such an old game despite the lack of options on graphics settings. The spirit guide jokester that follows you around lightens up the adventure with the banter and the executions are satisfying. So while the replayability isnt great the game is a solid short adventure of mindless button-mashing, ledge-climbing and dodge rolling and for its price it is a lot better than many bargain bin games.

The definition of 360 era slop, Marlow Briggs is a game that the less seriously it takes itself, the better it is

When it embraces the dumb fun and cheesy dialogue, it's a thrill ride to the max. It's short and sweet, tho be ready for very little classic God of War style combat depth, a bad magic system, and just do your best against the games prompts

There are some bugs on steamdeck so verify the files, one point I got a weird error and some cutscenes broke, but nothing major

Back in 2013, this was a game you approached with minimal expectations; the original God of War series was still all the rage and this was (is) supposed to be just a low budget clone.
Except it doesn't only understand and execute the assignment quite decently, it stands out as it embraces being over the top and ridiculous. The hero feels out of a blaxploitation movie, the villain is laughably super-evil (his communications to his personnel are comedy gold), Steve Blum has a blast playing the eponymous Mask ("Thieves! Dogs!"), and pretty much everything explodes, much to the chagrin of the bad guy. Even the cheaply produced cutscenes become part of its charm as it reminds that a game can be dumb fun.

To this day, it still manages to surprise me for how decent it looks all things considered, with some setpieces and locations even fairly impressive for a game of such a relatively small filesize.

It's also very nicely paced: every new weapon, every new power, even the quantity of experience necessary for an upgrade, always come at the right time to keep the attention high.

Ultimately, its biggest flaw is in the variety, really few enemy types, but the game is short enough to not become boring before the action starts becoming repetitive. As it regularly goes on sale for 99 cents, it's an absolute steal and an hiddem gem for the Steam library. So unfortunate that the developer was bought out and moved to working on slot machines, as the ending leaves one longing for a Marlow Briggs 2!

Ну... Игра явно на троечку.
Из плюсов: юморок присутствует, динамичная картинка с быстрым темпом, дизайн уровней, эффектов и персонажей сойдёт
Из минусов: куча багов (постоянно то застреваешь в стенах невидимых, то сквозь землю падаешь), высокая сложность кажется низкой, практически любой босс проходится с первой попытки из-за примитивных паттернов атак, зачастую можно "расстрелять" их уроном магии и даже не вступать особо в бой, однако под конец игры будет момент, где резко вся лёгкость ломается и наступает сцена с крайне мощными врагами на одной арене, там я застрял на минут 40 (и прошёл благодаря багу, лол), но это случается буквально один раз. О каком-то балансе говорить не приходится, зачастую игру проходишь на лайте не напрягаясь даже если выбрали максимально доступную сложность. Загадки есть, но также примитивные.

В целом если нравится клишированный сюжет с добром и злом в духе приключений, а также готовы спамить кнопку атаки и уворотов - пожалуйста, обычный кандидат на такое веселье для прохождения на разок.

As long as you know what you are getting into, you will not be dissapointed. This is not a "im a changed man" typa game. It's more akin to. "oh cool, an old school combat filled game."

Combat is similar to God of War (before reboot) and that's a good thing, you are powerful and can kill anything without taking any damage as long as you dodge/block. You unlock new weapons as you progress, You can switch them mid-fight to gain significant advantage over everything. There is also magic, similar to weapons but you can use any magic at any time (after unlock ofc).

The game is clunky, you can glitch through sections/puzzles if you fiddle around with things. You can skip entire fights if you don't want to. But, I don't think you should coz they are the fun part. Story is pretty meh. Cutscenes are welll, they exist... Overall though, the game is very much worth to pick up on sale for $1 for a 7-8 hour playthrough.

"Marlow Briggs and the Mask of Death" definitely doesn't take itself seriously. Action is over the top, dialogues dumb but fun at the same time. The lack of enemy and level/location variety is noticeable, but not monotonous. There are 4 weapons. 1 weapon for each Act or smth. Every weapon behaves differently and has its own combos. They are simple, easy to perform. Which is very nice.
There are a few magic abilities that you'll get during a playthrough too. They are strong, but only usable once or twice during an encounter (high mana cost).

This game has fixed camera, you can't look around at all. Undoubtedly old-school gaming vibes right there, And it works, for the most part, without many issues. Kinda.

There are some puzzles (easy). Some bosses (mostly easy). Some bugs (nothing too gamebreaking, but annoying nonetheless)

Overall this game kinda reminded me of Shadow Warrior, which was released a whole week later (funny) ^^

A decent game for a few evenings.

este juego siempre lo quise jugar pero no estaba en steam y no se porque cuando queria bajarlo ilegal jamas lograba que funcione. estaba hace unos dias en facebook dando vueltas y me salto el video analisis de este juego y se me ocurrio buscarlo en steam... en descuento por 0.99$ lo compre sin pensarlo.

este juego es el ejemplo perfecto de porque hoy en dia la industria es una basura, este juego podra tener fallos (y si que los tiene) pero acierta en lo mas importante y lo unico que importa QUE SEA UN MALDITO JUEGOOOOOOOOOO.

God of Mayan Riviera
Marlow Briggs is a buff firefighter, but he didn't think of himself a hero. He comes to an archaeological dig in the Mayan jungle to visit his girlfriend, an archaeologist working for an industrialist, Mr. Long. A work dispute turns nasty and Marlow is killed- impaled by a ceremonial scythe. The weapon happens to be possessed, and Marlow is reborn as The Sacred Warrior, with a floating mask for a companion who guides him on his quest to save his beloved Eva and stop Long.
What follows is a typical fixed-camera hack and slash where Marlow makes his way though jungle, ancient temples and industrial sites, solving some puzzles, doing a lot of jumping, and even more fighting. The combat revolves around building combos via chaining light and heavy attacks. Initially Marlow uses a scythe, but he eventually unlocks short blades, a whip and a heavy maul, as well as 4 elemental AoE spells. The enemy variety's pretty decent, with Long's mercenary goons, local wildlife (including giant scorpions, likely to be your biggest nemesis), and creatures from the Mayan underworld. Marlow starts off with a double-jump and a wide evade/roll and can use short burst of mana to launch spectral daggers. Killing enemies replenishes some health and mana, but primarily these are regained from pickups spread across levels. The levels are linear, with a few nooks for extra EXP and a dozen collectible masks.
The combat, on Normal, is fairly simple. There's a block button, but in general you can tank the incoming damage to get through most encounters. Overall, the game is balanced on the easy side, to give you the feeling of being a legendary hero reborn.
The game's old school vibes are evident in the challenge minigames and various genre mashups they toss in- there are 2 shmup segments where you pilot an aircraft and have to shoot down all incoming enemies; there's multiple sections where you slide into the screen, dodging obstacles and collecting orbs for extra exp; etc. These challenges are optional, as the game doles out plenty of EXP to level out all your weapons and spells (boosting your HP and mana bars, respectively). The graphics are vibrant, and the art direction generally makes up for lack of options. The game's budgetary constraints are evident in the cutscenes- instead of animated in-engine cutscenes, we get a series of tableau stills. These are supposed to mimic comic book stills, but since they are done in-engine, and are completely silent, they can come off as goofy. But overall, it adds to the game's quirky charm.
It's simple, it's brainless, and it tries to keep you excited all the way through. If you've been playing for more than 15 minutes and something didn't explode or collapse, something is wrong. It's got the attitude of an action blockbuster, and id doesn't take itself too seriously. The boss fights are a spectacle, the combat feels decent, despite the lack of auto-face, which made things a but awkward on a keyboard. And overall, it's just a feel-good title.

Depois de mto procurar, finalmente achei um jogo qe me fez matar a vontade de god of war das antigas :3
O combate é mto bom, tem coisas mto legais tipo fazer um inimigo virar seu aliado ou controlar certos inimigos fazendo eles virarem sua montaria ò.ó tem bosses mto legais, puzzles qe não te fazem ficar quebrando mto a cabeça (quero é matar bicho po) e partes em qe o jogo vira jogo de navinha ^^
Paguei apenas R$ 2,09 nesse jogo em promoção e até no preço full ele é baratinho, R$ 10,49

Es un juego, que tiene combate, zonas de plataformas, buenos escenarios , obtención de poderes y armas.. lo típico de estos juegos

La primera sensación al jugar con él un rato es " esto es un clon de God of war , los clásicos los de Grecia) y obviamente las comparaciones son evidentes

Pero con algunas horas jugadas y adentrándose en la historia del juego , te das cuenta de pese a las obvia comparaciones y obvios parecidos tiene una esencia propia, tanto en escenarios como en mecánicas

Para mi gusto , se asemeja más al Dante`s Inferno que a God of War

Excelente ambientación de la cultura Maya, con los típicos escenarios de jungla, templos perdidos en las montañas, etc

Los diferentes poderes y armas que vas adquiriendo a lo largo de la aventura, hacen que esta no decaiga en ningún momento y es más tiene algunas fases con mecánicas como disparar desde un cañón a helicópteros, recoger unos orbes en situaciones frenéticas que hacen el juego más variado y se agradece

Los enemigos.. los típicos de estos juegos.. arácnidos varios , escorpiones gigantes, soldados y mercenarios de diferentes tipos y dificultades , sumado a algunos jefes finales de gran tamaño

En definitiva es un muy buen juego, quizás desapercibido cuando en ese mismo genero tan parecido tienes a la saga God of War

Lo recomiendo y más al precio ridículo que está cuando lo ponen en oferta

To tytuł, który nie sili się na intelektualne fajerwerki, bo całą swoją energię ładuje w akcję. I to akcję tak dziką, że chwilami masz wrażenie, jakby twórcy kazali silnikowi gry krzyczeć: "Szybciej! Głośniej! Jeszcze bardziej!".

Rozgrywka jest dynamiczna, widowiskowa i naprawdę satysfakcjonująca. Marlow sieka wrogów niczym w amerykańskim filmie akcji z lat 2000, a wszystko to okraszone jest barwną stylistyką azteckich rytuałów, mitycznych potworów i klimatycznej dżungli, która wygląda, jakby miała cię pożreć żywcem, gdy tylko spuścisz ją z oka. Do tego gadająca maska, która nieustannie komentuje wydarzenia, dodaje grze humoru i takiej lekko przerysowanej energii, dzięki której nie sposób traktować tego świata całkowicie serio.

Idealna, jeśli mamy ochotę na coś głupiego, głośnego i totalnie popie*rzonego - ale w najlepszy możliwy sposób.

PS. Na poziomie Hardcore gra potrafi naprawdę dać w kość.

I appreciated Marlow Briggs's lively combat system, the appropriately fast and frenetic pace, and the variety of settings, puzzles, and enemies. The difficulty balancing was a godsend for the casual gamer in me after just finishing 2 Souls Like. The story isn't brilliant, but it's not bad either. On the downside, the cutscenes break up the narrative: a freeze frame isn't always appropriate for every moment, and I would have preferred something else. Even in 2025, it's enjoyable, considering it came out in 2013. It deserves a solid 8-/10, much better than Metacritic's 6.5.

Warum bin ich auf dieses Spiel erst 2025 gestoßen? Marlow Briggs and the Mask of Death ist ein ziemlich cooler God of War 1/2 Klon.

Als der gute Marlow sich auf der Arbeit über die Arbeitsbedingungen seiner Freundin beschwert, wird er mal eben hingerichtet, um an ihm ein Exempel zu statuieren. Mit was sein Peiniger aber nicht rechnet, ist dass er daraufhin von einer alten Macht wieder ins Leben zurückgeholt wird und sich auf den Weg macht, um seine Freundin zu retten.

Das Gameplay erinnert maximal an die ersten beiden God of War Spiele. Hier hat man sich definitiv so einiges abgeschaut - von der Comboanzeige, bis hin zu den verschiedenen Waffen und Fähigkeiten, die sich teilweise SEHR ähneln und den Klettereinlagen.

Hier und da verstecken sich ein paar Bugs und generell merkt man dem Spiel natürlich sein vergleichsweise niedrigeres Budget an, ich hatte aber echt Spaß daran, mich hier einige Stunden durch die Gegner zu schnetzeln. Und von den paar "God of War"-ähnlichen Spielen da draußen ist dieses hier definitiv eines der besseren.

Uncharted meets God of War. Absolutely packed to the brim with cinematic set pieces, arena battles, and button-mashing combat. It's a relatively short game, but it never lets up for a moment. Worth $5, not to mention the $1 I paid for it. A hidden gem from a time period where it easily, and unfortunately, slipped under the radar. Картинка симпатичная. Залитые солнцем ацтекские храмовые комплексы увитые плющом и корнями деревьев выглядят уютно, но напоминают кое-какие две серии игр.
В принципе вся Marlow Brrrriggs это бесконечные "Это я уже видел и слышал". Что в контексте игры умиляет, а не раздражает.

A desenvolvedora eslovena Zootlfy criou vários jogos absolutamente esquecíveis que eram ports de trabalhos de outros estúdios ou adaptações da TV ou do cinema. Seu canto do cisne e seu projeto mais ambicioso foi o medíocre Marlow Briggs and the Mask of Death. A partir de um orçamento de 5 milhões de dólares, uma fortuna para o tamanho da Zootlfy (em parte financiado pela Microsoft Studios), o jogo conseguiu obter 45 milhões de dólares em vendas. O retorno financeiro inesperado não impediu que a desenvolvedora fosse adquirida por um empresário local e transformada em um estúdio que passou os últimos doze anos criando jogos eletrônicos de cassino.

O título de 2013 é basicamente um filme B com orçamento infinito. Somos apresentados ao protagonista Marlow Briggs, um estereotipado bombeiro negro norte-americano que namora uma arqueóloga latina. Logo nos minutos iniciais, também somos apresentados ao grande vilão da história, um igualmente estereotipado empresário chinês, que está pagando todas as contas de uma escavação colossal no interior da América Central. Esse Fu Manchu do século XXI está atrás de um artefato de grande poder, ocupou a escavação com um exército ilimitado de mercenários e busca forçar a arqueóloga a decifrar profecias antigas. Em menos de cinco minutos de discussão, Marlow Briggs é executado e a moça é raptada.

Felizmente, Marlow Briggs se torna o escolhido da tal Mask of Death, o receptáculo para um antigo deus da matança. É a desculpa perfeita para rasgar a blusa do bombeiro, exibir seus músculos, agora tatuados, colocar uma foice mágica em suas mãos e transformá-lo em uma cópia genérica de Kratos. Daí pra frente, qualquer tentativa de enredo ou reviravoltas vai sendo deixada de lado. É hora de dar porrada, muita porrada.

Definir Marlow Briggs and the Mask of Death como hiperbólico seria subestimar o jogo. Não há um único elemento em seus cenários ou inimigos que não sejam exagerados. A operação do tal vilão conta com mais helicópteros que a Força Área Israelense e mais soldados que o exército chinês. Existe uma máquina de escavação ambulante que é basicamente uma plataforma de petróleo com pernas, capaz de derrubar montanhas. Os primeiros sessenta minutos do jogo não dão um segundo para o jogador respirar, com Marlow Briggs saltando de uma situação de perigo para outra ainda maior em rápida sucessão. É Duro de Matar movido a anfetaminas.

Talvez essa descrição passe a imagem de um título empolgante, mas o fato é que o diretor do jogo se empolgou em excesso. Em vez de parecer o melhor filme de ação de todos os tempos, a aventura parece o delírio febril de uma criança que assistiu cartoons demais. Minha sensação nessas primeiras horas não era de queixo caído mas de gostosas gargalhadas diante do absurdo da coisa toda, com direito a cutscenes executadas com a câmera passeando por momentos congelados. Zack Snyder choraria se conhecesse esse jogo.

Infelizmente, o que era kitsch, o que era tão exagerado que chegava a brilhar em sua cafonice, se torna enfadonho depois de um tempo. Era mais ou menos óbvio que a Zootlfy não conseguiria manter o ritmo inicial ao longo de toda a aventura. Há sequências que estão ali claramente para alongar um produto, incluindo puzzles de tempo que são fortemente prejudicados pela câmera pavorosa do jogo. A partir da metade, é possível dizer que Marlow Briggs and the Mask of Death praticamente se arrasta. As novas armas trazem coreografias novas, mas exercem exatamente a mesma função das antigas. As novas magias trazem efeitos novos, mas causam exatamente o mesmo impacto em todas as situações. Não há nenhum planejamento tático no combate além do macetar de botões. Os novos inimigos, bem, digamos que param de surgir novos inimigos depois de um tempo.

Quando você percebe que devastou metade da América Central a troco de nada, matou mais pessoas que a Peste Negra e o jogo desistiu de se superar, incapaz de manter suas próprias apostas, você começa a se questionar por que exatamente está tentando chegar no final. Quando você percebe que o conceito de aumentar a dificuldade do jogo é simplesmente adicionar mais inimigos nas batalhas, quando você percebe que o maior inimigo sempre foi a câmera, você entende que todo seu esforço não terá uma grande recompensa no final e que chegou a hora de abandonar a selva. Foi divertido enquanto durou, mas a piada cansou de si mesma.

Not a bad game, very similar to God of war series(I'm sure other hack and slashes as well), story is pretty basic, just get revenge.

Game play and graphics are nice, I haven't experienced any bugs and the game and combat ran smoothly so easy to chain combos

This game is amazing.
The main characters are extremely likeable, the action never takes it's foot off the gas, and the game doesn't demand a whole lot of your time.

The worst thing about this game is that it set up a sequel we'll never get.

A surprisingly well made and competent over-the-top action game with pretty cool setpieces. I didn't expect to enjoy playing it as much as I did, and even with its somewhat short length and a pretty simple gameplay, I had fun completing it. There's really not much negative to say about the game, and it probably would have been a way more popular game if it had a more recognizable name attached or had more marketing.

El juego no está mal, pero tiene fallos técnicos, de vez en cuando se cierra. En momentos puntuales la cámara no ayuda, aunque puede ser que sea porque cambié la resolución para poder ver los subtítulos. Y algunos enemigos tiene demasiada vida para mi gusto y el combate se hace tedioso.
Si no se cerrara cada 10-30 minutos lo recomendaría, es un problema de compatibilidad con windows

Muy buen juego. Quizá tenga algunos pequeños inconvenientes, pero es un juego hermoso, sencillo, y muy entretenido. El carisma de la máscara, la mitología Maya y la jugabilidad son muy buenas. Si bien no es un juego que merezca un sobresaliente 10 (diez), se merece una buena nota como reconocimiento por la osadía y audacia que tuvo la empresa desarrolladora para lanzarlo en una época en las que los hack and slash estaban en crisis. Asimismo, muchos podrán decir, que es un clon de juegos como Dante´s inferno y God of war, comparativa que se puede hacer muy notable. No obstante, este pequeño y entretenido juego es una maravilla que cuenta con lindos detalles lumínicos, una buena gama de colores y con una buena experiencia.
