This review is not even about the rather mediocre port. It works. Just using scumm. It has also a graphically superior vga version which you have to specifically activate in the beta menu. The game itself is famous for being a "mature" point and click game with lots of "naughty" jokes. The humor sucks, aside one or two that where mildly amusing. Not only is it a text parser game, meaning you have to type and find out the exact correct prompt the game wants you to use, the puzzles are unlogical, events take place in absolutely weird ways and in order to traverse you have to gamble which means luck based save scumming. In one sequence you have to change the tv to a channel a pimp likes, find a prostitute and basically leave the room out of the fire exit in order to get condoms. Later you come back, leave, find another girl. If you meet her you get a rope which you can go back to the first girls room, fire exit and use it on there to find another item. Game is absolutely weird, you need to do very specific things in order to proceed without any good humor or a good story to back it up. Avoid.

it's tacky, it's nonsensical, ultra short and in the EGA version (16 color) it's very very dated - mostly due to the text-parser inputs.
But at the same time it brings so many memories - trying to tackle the 'adult quiz' as a kid (no internet then!) and trying to work out any combination of English words to maybe see some pixelated nudity, oh the fond memories :)
could argue this game pushed me into learning proper English :D very educational!
currently it's not available in the steam store which is a shame, but if it comes back - no harm in getting it for a dollar to witness some computer history.
edit: something I forgot to mention - it works great on steam deck, obviously though, play the VGA version since typing on the virtual keyboard is a nightmare (even on VGA You will have couple of prompts but that is a minor inconvenience)

Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards is a "point and click text-based" game, and you play as Larry, lol, Larry Laffer, a 38-year-old (40 in the VGA/Reloaded version) virgin who has only one main goal in the world: to find true love (and also lose his virginity, of course).
So it's very clear that this is an adult comedy game and is NOT recommended for anyone under 18!

Well, there are very few zoom scenes with "details" that show some of the women and hide certain parts (if you know what I mean).
Now let's get straight to the game... being the EGA version... it has English text input (you have to know the basics, otherwise... you'll get EVEN MORE complicated in your gameplay), the clicks on the interactions, "nice" graphics.
In 1987, at the time, it must have been the height of technology, although today it has aged badly (with all due respect).
Luckily, in 1991 Sierra made a "remake" with VGA graphics.
The difference between EGA and VGA are two things: the interface and the graphics.
The rest is the same!
Also, the "soundtrack" is nice just so the game isn't "dry" without sound/music... let's say that all Leisure Suit Larry games have great soundtracks that never disappoint.
Be careful with the decisions you make in the game because they have consequences (like... putting Larry on the road and getting run over) and as far as I know, it forces you to restart the game itself, loading your save.
The story of LSL 1 is fun and a pure classic!
For those still interested, buy it on the ENEBA website and enjoy playing and collecting! Ah... a tip... since LSL1 is from 1987... and being an adult game, it OBVIOUSLY has an age verification system... that is, they will ask you questions and if you answer correctly... you will be released and you can play, otherwise... you leave the game!

It's a totally raunchy comedy featuring mild sex, toilet humor, along with some interactive puzzle solving. Perfect for any well adjusted adult or teenage kid. I played it for the first time in the late 90's when I was a sixteen. I found it to be quite appropriate for my age.

Super dated, most jokes didn't land, but I wasn't expecting anything else so it's okay.
This collection is complete trash. Every game crashes constantly and I've spent all my playtime in these Sierra Classic collections just trying to get them running. I purchased the Police Quest Collection, The Space Quest Collection, and Leisure Suit Larry 1,2,3, and 5 in a sale and didn't get around to trying them for around 2 months. They all have the same issues and are unplayable. STEAM has denied my refund request because I purchased them too long ago... 8 min play time, denied, 20 minutes playtime, denied, 0.1 hours on record... denied.
This is terrible customer service and makes me extremely unlikely to EVER purchase any classic game collections on STEAM again. I have much better and easier options for playing every game in them. Don't waste your time and money on any of the classic Sierra games here on STEAM.

Leisure Suit Larry was always kind of a mess, and revisiting the early games just makes that painfully clear. This is where it all started and stumbled. It's basically a crude re-skin of Softporn Adventure with some slapstick and pixelated boobs. Half the puzzles make no sense, dying is way too easy, and you're basically punished for exploring. The humor is dated, and while it thinks it's edgy, it’s more sad than sexy. Still, there’s a kind of weird charm to how clueless it is.

Leisure Suit Larry 1 is very funny & charming. Being the first it establishes the start of a long lasting series. This game is filled with silly moments, weird characters, & a nice taxi system to make travelling a little less cumbersome which I appreciated. Still had some moon logic for sure but it seemed easier to me than kq 1/2, sq1, & pq1 so far. I had a very good time though and would recommend this to anyone who wants a very old school wacky adventure title.

Haha the age verification bit is so funny haha, expecting anyone even back then to have that much of a life that they would know the answers and still be willing to play a game like this. the bypass method doesnt work for me so i guess i payed for a game i cant even play. having to look up the answers for a boomer gooner game is the peak of pathetic and depressing. Got the game bundle on deeeeeep sale a few months ago because I remember my father having this game when I was a kid and wanted to give it a go for nostalgia and it didn't disappoint. A fantastic game for its time, released originally in 1987. It's overall a very short game, and in a way, it almost plays like a single-player DnD, where the game is the dungeon master so to speak, and said dungeon master kept the storyline quite simple and quick, with somewhat strict rules on what can and can't be done. Puzzle based point and click. It's similar to most/all of the classic Sierra point and clicks like Kings Quest, Police Quest, etc., and in fact there are some crossover references from said games. Be sure to save often, because you can die, and the causes of dying are generally meant as gags about how you died, so if you save often you won't feel like the game cheesed you on how you died, since you can just restore a nearby save. You can die basically from random stuff you'd never expect, again, as a gag. Get it on sale, as much as I like it it's not worth full price. If you do get it, apparently you can right click on the game and opt in for a VGA beta version under properties. I just played the classic version but it's probably worth knowing that there's a sort of "remaster" so to speak with the VGA version. Beware if you do get the game, it trolls you pretty hard with an "age verification questionnaire" at the start that most people wouldn't know the answers to. There are guides online with the correct answers for these, or if you are using the VGA version you can press CTRL+ALT+X to skip it. I mention this because a lot of people might just be like "what the f is this" and uninstall. It is jank, but if you can just be patient with that trollish questionnaire and get into the game you're golden. Hope this rant helps thanks for reading

I bought these games because all of them were on a massive sale, and I wanted to try this series out.
I'm surprised to say that LSL1 is actually a pretty solid game (though definitely aged poorly in some aspects).
The game follows our protagonist Larry - trying to get some "tail" before the night ends. This via increasingly insane and (probably) illegal means. You explore various parts of the city, collect anything that isn't nailed to the ground, and try to rizz some babes.

I've only played LSL 1 and 2 at the time of reviewing, but this one was honestly a blast.
The puzzle design mostly made sense (though some things were still very unclear) and the jokes mostly aged well. It's not super difficult for a Sierra game, and I honestly consider that a good thing. Without a guide of any kind you can probably clear it in about 8 hours - I used some guidance and managed to do it in 3.4 so it didn't get annoying.
Whilst it's not the best adventure game I've ever played - it still did its job. Just don't buy this expecting a highly lewd game as there's very little nudity within the game, and sexual interactions are censored accordingly.
The game itself flows pretty well and the puzzles aren't the most moon logic things known to man. Though it's noteworthy that you *need* to gamble at blackjack (and save scum accordingly) to make enough money to progress. Running out of cash also means an instant game over, so saving is very much a requirement. There are some pitfalls as well, but the game never felt "unfair" to me - so it's fine in that regard.

I likely won't even complete this game or put hours into it but bought it for the nostalgia as a kid who truly was young and guessing answers to the questions with my friend as we played this when it released. I can't believe i got my mother to take me to the store to purchase it and literally was able to get away with it without her or the employee shining light to the fact it was an adult game!
It definitely taught me a lot about the benefits of using television as a diversion technique and the consequences of not having prophylactics on hand. I never knew you could die so quickly and that leisure suit Larry could be considered a form of harm reduction if used in sex education. Thanks for the memories Larry!

As charming as this game is, I spent the first hour of it trying to get it to look decent on my monitor. This is because the game is ancient. I tried out the remaster also but the controls infuriated me so I stopped playing. I adore the charm of this game but the remaster needs a remaster. I got the entire franchise for a dollar though so I'd say its worth it if you get it like how I did.

Just no, this is run using an emulator where .ini files are trying load files from GOG folders ... when this a STEAM version, besides it be just a poor "port" without any concerns to make it playable to these days, unless you know how to edit files, this is just unplayable, and the price tag is an insult

Very oldschool/classic game. I wish steam had a neutral vote rather than up or down, i don't want to slant the game it's just it DEFINITELY has controls from the 90s, no instructions or direction you just have to figure things out, which has it's own charm. Pretty meh game overall.
Without spoiling things, the game is pretty difficult/impossible without spending hundreds of hours of trial and error or looking up things.

The Leisure Suit Larry - Retro Bundle was available for free on Fanatical, so I decided to try it out, even though I had never played the series before. It wasn’t something a little girl would have been interested in back when it was first released (and I wasn’t even born), but since I enjoy point-and-click and retro games, I gave it a chance.
In Leisure Suit Larry, you control Larry Laffer, a short loser on a mission to lose his virginity and maybe even find love. The game deals with mature and sexual content, but it's not really that shocking since black bars cover up the explicit stuff. The humor feels pretty dated and cringy by today's standards. It wasn't really my thing. I can see how it's from a different era though.
The game uses text commands instead of offering interaction options, and figuring out what to do is often unclear. Some commands are so specific that it becomes frustrating. The taxi system was confusing too. I didn’t even realize you could call a taxi to travel to other locations until I checked a walkthrough. It’s not clear that places like the shop or casino even exist unless you look them up.
Larry moves very slowly, but there is an option to increase game speed, which makes exploration a bit less painful. It’s also really easy to die or lose in the game. Traveling between locations becomes tedious because you need money for the taxi, which you can earn in the casino. This is the part I hated most about the game. You have to repeatedly play blackjack or slot machines to earn money. This felt really grindy, as the winnings are mostly luck-based, and you can’t bet much money at a time, so I had to save and reload constantly.
The game includes an irritating age verification system requiring you to answer five trivia questions to prove you're over 18. Some questions may be outdated or irrelevant, especially for non-US players. You can bypass this entirely by pressing Ctrl+Alt+X.
One thing that really annoyed me was the manual, which has blurry pages, especially the part explaining which text commands are available.
If you want to play the newer VGA version, you have to activate it in the beta settings on Steam, and this isn’t explained anywhere. While the graphics and sound are better in this version, I wasn’t a fan of the updated controls. They replaced the text input with a clunky point-and-click system, and the UI felt overly complicated with some buggy mouse interactions.
I imagine longtime fans have nostalgia for this, though as someone new to the series I wasn't impressed.

10/10 would recommend. Pirated the game back in the 90's and bought it here to pay Al back. I talked to Al and found out that he won't see a penny from the sales on Steam so I sent him a donation on his site. He's a legend! So if you're trying to make good for stealing it back in the day, go to Al's website instead.
A godsent from the late 80s
Le jeu est dans son jus de l'époque, et difficile à manier (commandes, déplacements...), il aurait peut être mérité une remasterisation mais reste un vieux jeu que l'on peut aimer redécouvrir.
Ero molto curiosa di provare la saga di Leisure Suit Larry e lo sono tutt'ora, ci tengo infatti a specificare che questa recensione non riguarda il gioco in sé bensì le modalità con cui è stato caricato su Steam.
Inizialmente non capivo perché il gioco era solo in versione originale; non c'è alcuna possibilità di passare al remake dal menù di gioco, addirittura non viene menzionato minimamente, come se non ci fosse. Grazie ad altri giocatori però, ho scoperto che la Assemble Entertainment anziché mettere una semplicissima casella di scelta all'avvio del gioco ha ben pensato di imboscare la versione remake nel menù beta delle proprietà.
Non trovo una giustificazione a questa scelta, solo incompetenza e non curanza nei confronti del giocatore e della Sierra Entertainment la quale, avendo ceduto i diritti di questa saga alla Assemble Entertainment, di riflesso ci mette la faccia.

Ah, the Leisure Suit Larry series from Sierra Games. Gone are the good old days, the beautiful 80's and 90's when life was simple, with one land line at home, minimum internet access, and beautiful boxed-art PC games like Diablo, Warcraft, Half-life and more.. The age where consoles like Nintendo and Sega was every kid's dream, with adventure and action packed games taking over the market, with cute characters and exciting beat-em-ups alike.. THEN... there was Sierra games. I began my journey with the King's Quest series in 1992, being completely drawn to the point, click, and type RPG gameplay that reminded me of the scene in Tom Hank's movie "BIG".. then finding out there was Space Quest, and Police Quest.. THEN.. there was Leisure Suit Larry, my absolute favorite from the series. Leisure Suit Larry was like no other, the soft-porn situation was unheard of, and didn't exist anywhere else in the entire world. I was a young teen when I discovered these games, and I had an absolute blast playing it through my teenage year, with LSL 6 being my absolute favorite game. If you have never played a game where you run around chasing girls, then trust me, you will never meet a similar game again. Download these gems if you have the cash for a little good time. Crummy jokes, bad jokes, and the infamous adult quiz aside, these games have such a cheesy soundtrack and fun gameplay it will sure leave you with laughs over and over again for years to come. Downloaded it on Steam the moment I found it. To be honest.. I bought this PC just so I could play it (cuz it doesn't work on mac) I love this series, and I hope you will too. And yes, I'm 43, and totally geeked out =)

A pretty straightforward adventure game, not too difficult to figure out. Enjoyable puzzles. Play this using ScummVM and not the built in one for max enjoyment (better quality and perf).
This game feels like it was made much more recently than 1987. The only problem is that sometimes the text has to be exact, for example, you have to enter "eight" instead of "8" or "Eight." If you use a guide it's more fun because you can avoid the archaic game play and just experience the humorous storyline. You also have to save often because there random instakill scenarios like getting hit by a car or running out of money.
If you can deal with all of that, the dialogue is really funny and entertaining to read, with some shock moments that are actually really well done for a game this simplistic and dated.
First of all, no I did not grow up playing this game as a child, still I felt very nostalgic. This game is also surprisingly classy and charming although the title promises a rather trashy plot. Also I loved the funny dead ends you can run into which cause a game over, for example if you push the flush-button on the toilet. The quiz in the beginning is quite challenging, seems like I am still a kid lol. I also really enjoyed the farming in the casino. 10/10

Steam used a BAIT and SWITCH tactic while offering The Sims 4 as a "FREE" download and because there is no way to leave a review on The Sims 4 (very cowardly by the way, Steam) I can't voice my complaint and the average review score is overwhelmingly positive. I want answers as to why I can't leave a review. I want answers as to why I am required to sign up with EA in order to play a f%%%ing game. I want answers as to why I am getting no transparency here. Leisure Suite Larry is an okay game, and does not deserve this negative review, but damn it, I have to voice this somewhere! I hope the video game market crashes again like it did in 1983/84 and we actually start getting fresh new games that aren't tarnished by corporate greed.
Good and really funny game, the visuals,art direction and writing is excellent, the music is truly enjoyable, but sometimes the game has softlockes with especific items that you don´t allow for use with others npcs or yourself, however , this port is really lazy and basic, this game needs more improvements like change screen size and resolution and another basic options for a better experience, I would reccommend this steam version if you purchase as part of the bundle ,obtain it on sale, or both.
Good price for both versions of the game. Some of the humor can be a bit cringe but I enjoy it, and I love the harder puzzles.
The first adventure game I played back in the 20th century, before the internet and walkthroughs were a thing.
It was a wonderful game back then, full of challenges like learning that it was Ken who had sent me. I don't know if this will appeal to modern players, but it's a golden gem for older folks who played it back in the day.

You have the option to play either the original pixelated text-based version or the VGA point-and-click version. The adventure itself is short, but be prepared for plenty of trial and error. It's a Sierra game, after all! Save often and use multiple save files because there are countless ways to meet your demise. But fear not, the deaths are often ridiculous and entertaining. Discovering how you can perish is part of the fun! The worse part is that there are some actions that could prevent you finishing the game later on (such as getting out of money). And it sucks when it happens.
This game embraces all the quirks and frustrations of old-school graphic adventures, but it's not overly difficult, especially due to its brevity. The port may be a bit lazy, giving you the exact same old versions emulated, complete with the age control questions. You'll probably ignore most of the answers unless you're an American boomer, so the trial and error starts before you even begin playing! What's worse is that each game session will start with this stupid quiz. Two wrong answers and you get a crash quit.
But hey, the price is usually ridiculously cheap, and if you enjoy funny adventure games and aren't easily offended by politically incorrect humor, Leisure Suit Larry is definitely worth playing. So grab your leisure suit, embrace the silliness, and get ready for a wild and wacky ride!

A short story of an idiotic idea, which is stretched out by a series of trial and error, among which there are many, including fatal outcomes. It's funny how close the realisation of our stupid ideas and how close the stupid death around it are.
An ancient representative of quests when you can get lost in the game going through a chain of dialogues, actions and getting items. Only after completing the game you realise that some items you haven't even used. Someone will say that this is unnecessary realism, but I would say that this is an immersion and even a reflection of the character and situation of the hero, who set an idiotic goal because of which he may lose his life by death.
And yes, this is a vivid representative of Sierra's quest ideology, when you may think that you are going right, but you have entered the death scene and you will have to load up. Be sure to look at the manual, which will tell you how to switch the graphics to a remaster of the 90s, because the textual original game of 80s is hard to perceive.

ベータタブから91年のリメイク（VGA）版への切り替えが可能。データを再ダウンロードすることになるので残念ながらオリジナルの87年（EGA）版とは共存が不可能、プレイ時にどちらか選択できる方式なら尚良かったが…プレイ環境はDOSBoxではなくScummVMでの動作となる。
本作の目的はイケイケなギャルをナンパしてコマすという、アダルトゲームでさえ滅多に見られないような潔すぎる内容だ。そして主人公はハンサムでもなければ特別な才能や血統も持たず、抱いた女を無条件に魅了するマジカルCHINPOの持ち主でもなければ金持ちでもない、ナイナイづくしの冴えない中年のオッサンなのである。しかも息が臭い（ゲーム中、あなたは頻繁に口臭スプレーを使うことになるだろう）。
どこを見てもモテる要素など持たないオッサンが、無責任男ばりに根拠のない自信と運とハッタリで運命を切り拓いていく。若者にウケるような話ではない、そういう意味でも本作は非常に…アダルト向けのゲームである。
ゲーム進行は一本道であり、行動できるエリアも非常に限られているため、自由度はほぼ皆無。
パズルの内容自体は馬鹿馬鹿しくもロジカルなものであり（TVのアダルトチャンネルをつけて用心棒の気を逸らす等）、クランクを回すと噴水から隠し通路が現れるというような非現実的なものは無い。
正直ADVとしての完成度はそれほど高くない、というのも運ゲー要素が強いのである。ゲームを進めるために金を稼がなければならない場面が幾つかあるのだが、その方法がカジノで稼ぐという手段一択であり、カジノで勝てるかどうかが運次第というわけなので…
しかし本作でもっとも難易度が高いのは、起動時に直面する年齢認証クイズであろう。
これは「20歳以上なら答えられるだろう」と想定された設問を5問中4問正解しなければならないのだが、クイズ内容を正確に言うなら「1967年以前生まれのアメリカ人を対象としたもの」と呼ぶべきもので、ローカルな時事問題やポップカルチャーなどが出てくると、ネイティブ・アメリカンの血の上に立っていない民族からすると、ちょっと手も足も出なくなる。
年齢入力画面で15歳以下や100歳以上を入力する、またはクイズに2回不正解すると、ユニークな警告メッセージとともにゲームが強制終了する。

洋モノのエロコメなので当然人を選ぶ作品ではあるが、あちらのノスタルジックな空気感を味わいたい人、オースティン・パワーズとか好きな人にはオススメです。
