本作是美术＞玩法，战斗系统简洁但并不简陋，有着放在当下，也许未来十几年内也说得上惊艳的美术表现力的的动作游戏。
制作中有来自鬼泣系列的制作人，因此游戏整体战斗风格比较像那一类。但游戏简化了很多可能给玩家带来压力的要素，没有评分系统没有货币系统，画面中去掉一切量表设计，强调像死亡空间的UI一体化表现方式[strike]其实更像魔界村吧就[/strike]那样将血条以装甲破损度来呈现，开荒体验更强调冒险的沉浸感。而就像前面说的那样游戏整体做的都非常友好，简化出招表方便上手，主角还有着无限即时复活的能力，按理来说也不会因为战斗卡关。
随着带来的问题就是游戏战斗体验较为轻度重复，而撑起流程的更多是游戏不断变化的场景与极具风格化的美术表现。可以说就算放在在当今百花齐放的众多游戏中，2011年的《天使之王》依旧有着跨越时间的惊艳画面表现力，作为最大卖点的美术是绝对没有拉下。在游戏中可以看到迷幻风格的表现，有时画面又会从3D变为2D，搭配宏伟史诗的音乐体验还是非常新鲜奇妙的。
相对这些完成度较高的部分来说，游戏最大的缺陷则是未完结的故事。
本身游戏叙事就很碎铺天盖地的迷台词，游戏后续还因为资金问题直接砍了后续剧情导致直接就是未完继续，在游玩时给人更多只是一个氛围作而难以去深入了解故事，变成了一个没头没尾的存在...虽然在这次高清重制版中以小说的方式补充完结了后续剧情（有中文），但这样的续写方式还是未免感觉很残念。
游戏当初在2010年E3展会上的预告PV中的大量迷台词而在网络上爆火（就像开头这句在现在也能看到有人做这个游戏相关的梗），却在正式发售的11年工作室倒闭，游戏也相当冷门...我个人很喜欢这部极具特色的作品，虽然说它是神作不至于，但说这游戏只是个烂梗作而这样被埋没也实在是太可惜了。

Combat sucks, very repetitive with a lot of platforming, the story is ok-ish. What does stand out are the trippy visuals
A game loosely based on the Book of Enoch with a bit of Old Testament and Mesopotamian mythology thrown in. And when I said "loosely" I mean it. The only thing I recognized from the source material are the names.
The game plays similar to games like Devil May Cry and Bayonetta with its main gimmick being the ability to steal weapons from enemies. The game has minimal HUD with imformation like remaining health being conveyed with the amount of armor left on the main character. Completing the game once unlocks a conventional HUD. Between fights there are simple platforming sections with some secrets if you choose to take the more hidden and difficult route.
On the technical side of things the visuals aren't the greatest (it's a Gamebryo game after all) but there is some strong and very surreal art direction to make up for it. Sometimes too strong as I often couldn't see where I was landing in platforming sections. The developers must have realized it too as they made your shadow very obvious when jumping so you have an indicator.

One of the most striking and beautiful games to come out of the 7th Gen. The minimalist UI is still boundary pushing and the setting is truly magical. From a gameplay perspective, it's quite lacking (only 3 weapon and enemy types, minimal combos), especially compared to other contemporary action games, but as a whole experience it's absolutely worth the price of admission.

El Shaddai Ascension of The Metatron is one of the most artistically beautiful games i have ever played. This game will be etched to your memory for the amazing surreal landscapes and overall art design. The music is pretty good as well and the story, which is based on the book of enoch, got me engaged throughout the entirety of it, except the end, which feels like it ends too abruptly. After completing the game you get a pdf file that continues the story. in the very first paragraphs it states "Due to budget restraints, El Shaddai’s development was cut short. The three short stories contained within this book are additions to the story originally released in 2012
that couldn't make the final cut of the game.
They detail what happened following the events of the game."
The pdf contains 148 pages of the cut content and it's honestly an incredible addition to this remaster. It's sad because you can see how every single loose end that was left in the game is tied in here, every unanswered question finally answered, and even a great foreshadowing that was never developed finally comes to fruition in one of these stories. It really shows how development restraints can really affect a game's story. The game's ending felt unfinished, and that is pretty sad, but the experience was incredible nonetheless, i can only imagine a world where this game gets remade with all the cut content finally added and a combat system that is a little bit more complex, but just how it is i really enjoyed it. There's a lot of personality and uniqueness into this game, from the fact that there's no UI at all which really makes you appreciate everything 10x more and be more mindful of your character (the only indicator of your health and the enemies' health is the damage on their armor. If the armor is intact you're full health, if you have no armor then you're dead) to the many fixed camera angles which range from 3d to 2.5d, the platforming sections, the combat sections, there's even a motorcycle section set in a futuristic world (shoutout tron?). The combat is a little bit repetitive as there isn't much depth to it and there's pretty much 3 common enemies throughout the entire game, but it doesn't really make it really boring as the game is pretty short (you'll beat it in like 7-8 hours). The length of the game is perfect imo, it doesn't stretch more than it should with pointless stuff, it goes straight to the point. I just wish it would have been a little bit longer just so that we could get the cut content i mentioned before. Anyways, this game is seriously a beautiful work of art and if you never played it you should, at least once. Just for the sake of art.

I love the esoteric theming, but the gaym mechanics have not aged well. It feels slow and boring. Combat is too simplistic and takes too long.
El Shaddai is a game that emerged as a result of absolute artistic conviction. Sawaki Takeyasu, lead artist and character designer for Okami, was approached with the idea of a game based on the Book of Enoch and from then on would be given almost complete creative freedom and with it created a project focused on art and music. El Shaddai belongs to a set of games that could best be described as multimedia narrative experiences, games that would not necessarily be recommended for the "game" parts. I am recommending this game as art.
There are games that people call "art" because they have "stories". They have "themes". These games are self-conscious and shameful about being games and try to prove that "games can be art too!" by inserting prestige television cutscenes between the third-person shooter adventure gameplay. Bloat it with some resource collection and crafting mechanics as well because that's just what you do when you make a game, right? Add sidequests where you run around to pick things up, progressive leveling systems, and an equipment menu where the character stands in front of a smoky gray backdrop, because it's just what you do in games, okay? Add a ton of ferns in the environment to make it look "realistic" so it does not confuse or scare away the HBO viewers by having any sense of unique character. This is what happens when "developers" are given control rather than artists. You get commercial pipeline products made with a checklist for mechanics and design outsourced to ArtStation and narrative and "lore" to TV writers. These games feel like nothing. They are overproduced, made by companies with thousands of people and teams so compartmentalized that it becomes impossible to classify the game as being the result of a person's artistic vision. They fail at being good art.
The true highest form of video games as art is form expressing character, where mechanics, rules, and audiovisual aesthetic all arise from the same drive of the artist and exist as an expression of their selves, the exertion of the inner world upon the outer as this digital artifact. This is what El Shaddai is. It's Sawaki Takeyasu's game, and it refuses to be anything else. It's a rejection of all the worst trends of its time and the even worse developments to come in the future. It forgoes realistic graphics for beauty and stylization. Rather than bloating the mechanics of the game and adding "content", El Shaddai employs intentionally simple and minimal combat. UI is absent throughout the game, with player and enemy health being shown through armor breaking. The game is sincere, strange, and unconcerned with legitimacy, refusing to appeal to any kind of prestige or traditional established idea of what makes a good game. It has its own unique character as a work of art. All of this is because the game is the cohesive artistic vision of Sawaki Takeyasu. He made the game this way. He put himself into his work, inseparably, and that is what made it so great. When you play El Shaddai, there is a connection between you and him. You can sense his obsessions, fixations, pleasures, and values through the game, because it is a piece of art and he is the artist.

I've played this re-release twice and plan to jump into a third time this year. It's still one of the best looking games aesthetically of its era, a true near masterpiece that was unfortunately a victim of its publisher burning up in flames, causing development to be rushed. Nevertheless, still one of the most unique mood-heavy games I've played, fantastic voice acting on both the English & Japanese audio tracks, banger score and sick denims. The Churches absolutely fumbled the bag not having Genesis-era yaoi dance offs canonised in the bible.

マップのアスレチックを越えたりしながら
雑魚敵を蹴散らしつつボスのもとへ向かう。
アスレチックに繊細な操作を要求するくせに
グラフィックの問題か、距離感が掴みにくい。
慣れるまでは苦労することだろう。
雑魚敵との戦闘については、
敵の攻撃の隙を見つけ、コンボを叩き込み
気絶したところで武器を奪い取れる。
武器の種類は、全部で３種類。
素早く斬りつけられる剣状の武器アーチ。
ビットのように宙に浮き、撃ち出されるガーレ。
盾のようにも拳甲のようにもなるベイル。
それぞれ、一長一短な性能となっている。
戦闘アクションはわりとシンプルな方で、

更にその状態で攻撃を受けるとノックアウト。
しかし、途中途中にある
[b]冥界[/b]というアスレチックステージ内で拾える
[b]イシュタールの書[/b]という収集アイテムを全て集めると
[b]ダメージを一切受けない無敵コスチュームが貰える[/b]。
これがあれば、クリアするのは十分に可能。
（チャプターの一部ではコスチュームが固定のため
普通にダメージを受けてしまうので注意）
問題は[b]スコアチャレンジHARD[/b]で
[b]全てのチャプターでグレードG（Sのさらに上）を取る実績[/b]。
これが禿げそうになるぐらい難しい。
前述の[b]無敵コスチュームを着ていると
基本スコアが加算されない仕様[/b]になっているのである。
[b]タイムボーナスとシークレットボーナスだけでは
実質グレードGのラインを超えるのは不可能[/b]なため
お助け要素は無しで[b]落下０、連打復帰０[/b]という
針に糸を通すような操作技術を要求される。
戦闘はHARDなのでスーパーアーマー持ちの敵が超辛いし、
アスレチックは失敗が許されないため神経が磨り減る。
総数10体を超える２度の雑魚連戦をなんとか終えた後に
アスレチックで失敗して落下したときには
思わずディスプレイを叩き割りそうになった。

this game is as beautiful as the day I lost it, I remember a long time ago playing el shaddai on the ps3 and I could never remember the name of it, when I did two weeks worth of google searches which led me to finding it not too long ago, I had to buy this remastered edition. Not only is this game amazing with its beautiful scenery, amazing fights , and difficulty, but also the beautiful story that takes place leaves you in awe

Игра, которую хочется любить, но она делает все, чтобы этого не случилось. Красивейший и разнообразнейший визуал, хорошая музыка, интересный сюжет и необычный сеттинг - все это есть в El Shaddai. Но так же в ней есть и неотзывчивое управление, нудные бои, отвратительный платформинг, раздражающая репетативность и технические недоработки. И вот ради лучших моментов игры приходится постоянно терпеть худшие, на что у меня не осталось никакого желания.
Мне не жаль потраченных денег на столь самобытный проект. Может эти разработчики еще порадуют чем-нибудь таким же необычным, но более доработанным. Здорово было бы увидеть римейк этой игры, в котором решили бы проблемные ее моменты, но вряд ли это случится.
"what if videogames were good" the videogame
More than a game, a religious experience
Monotonous gameplay that never gets interesting, Bible fanfiction-ass story, weird unnecessary reverb effect over literally every sound effect including the voice acting, and awful platforming segments. The only compliment that I can give this game is that some of the levels look pretty cool, or they would if they didn't have some grimy snapchat filter over them. The only level of this game that I actually enjoyed is when it turned into a wannabe F-Zero.
In a world where games are moreso a commodity priced on attention, time, and energy, than the actual price that's asked of you, it can be hard to dig through the dozens of thousands of titles on Steam alone to find something truly magical, to find a work that sparks a childlike sense of sheer wonder and awe. It varies from person to person, of course; art is subjective, and the genres a person likes, be it movies, TV shows, books, and even games, can all vary wildly. The difficulty of finding such qualities is only exacerbated with age and time. In short: to find a game that nails each and every last aspect of pure gameplay, presentation, and story writing, is statistically next to impossible.
Only three, maybe four games have had that kind of pull throughout the entire course of my life so far. A little shy of thirty years is a long time, sure, but coming from someone of my particular make and model, I'm the kind to get fixated on certain things for quite a while. What's ten years to wait for the chance to play one of those four in the grand scheme of things? Sure, it didn't turn out to be the best game ever, but I'm glad I got to go through it all anyway, and it fit my tastes somewhat. That's one end of the spectrum: the idea of a game that I'd held onto for years and seized each and every opportunity to make the most of it while I could. I got somewhere in the ballpark of 150 hours out of that one.
Generally speaking, I've been inadvertently lured towards very niche, yet very ambitious games, more often than not falling short in some form or fashion like BLUE REFLECTION, which is the former example and one of those four "white whale" games. But sometimes, with that very specific kind of game in mind, the best way to go is to burn hot and bright and fast. The latter end of that spectrum for me is El Shaddai, a game that comes up out of nowhere and just about completely and utterly swept me off my feet from the moment I first started it. It's phenomenal! It's also very much flawed. It's absolutely stunning for a PS3/360 game, and a nice, elegantly simple hack and slash, along with being extremely creative in plot, setting, and the various areas you visit throughout the game! It's also infamously unfinished, as linear as a straight line drawn with a ruler, and it really, really loves its platforming sections with bad camera angles (Chapter 8 is the worst in the entire game for that reason, along with having [spoiler]a character change that doesn't let you fully utilize his moveset until the very end of the chapter[/spoiler]).
El Shaddai is a prime example of an endemic evolution separate from many of its contemporaries. There's a reason it only has about 400 reviews on here: it sticks out like a sore thumb with a title that says everything and nothing about it all at the same time. If you're looking for something mechanically simple yet visually and audibly stunning, but also something that's largely flown under the radar, despite some crippling flaws, El Shaddai is like nothing else I've ever played. It's a wildly creative, highly energetic, and just plain fun fever dream that twists the Book of Enoch into a fantasy/sci-fi hybrid that stands entirely on its own, again, for better and for worse. If it were given another chance, I'd love to see the concepts explored in the novel adaptation (which goes through various cut content that never got featured in the game, though it's Japanese only) implemented in a proper, full-on remake. In a single phrase: it's flawed, but absolutely magical. In another:

Combat is pretty bland but the presentation and ambience are very good
Tentative recommendation; Difficulty wise this game can be used as an introduction to the Character Action game genre with it's simplified mechanics, plenty wiggle room for the standards of the genre (revives are free and doesn't penalize your grade), and stylish presentation. The price tag is also pretty convincing especially compared to the other well established titles.
Just don't expect too much out of it though, the simple mechanics ends up making the fights felt way too dragged out despite the multiple weapon approach (no upgrades, just hidden areas to find your collectibles and lore), bosses felt like having way too much super armor (the game does have weapon effectiveness system but you need a consumable to find out and they are of limited duration and supply; game has no shops), and the platforming is, while not the worst, is still very frustrating to go through.
Trippy game! It's like playing Devil May Cry but you don't know what's going on but the graphics are so stylish and the music is dream-like so you just keep playing...

Technically speaking, this game looks great on PC with 4k resolution, and it plays great (so far) with an Xbox controller. I'm doing Japanese language with English subtitles and the subs are good. There's this funky dude with one eye and I'm stuck on him. I was button mashing all this time and it was working, but looks like this game requires some skill. Just a heads up. But man this game oozes style. I'm talking VOGUE magazine. It's not Death Stranding realistic graphics. Maybe it's like Death Stranding graphics, but you ran it through a 1990's retro filter. The main character looks like a young Chris Hemsworth with no facial hair. There's a goth dude who uses a cellphone and he can go. He sure does talk a lot. Like me. I'll stop.
(Fallen) Angels May Cry.
Thousands of years ago, a group of angels decided they can surpass God's creation. Taking the Fruits of Wisdom, they Fell from heaven and went among humans, sharing forbidden knowledge and disrupting the intended course of evolution. The Council of Archangels wants to cleanse this with a second Great Flood, but God chose a human, Enoch, who was made a scribe in Heaven, for a great task. If he can defeat and bind the seven Fallen, then humanity shall be spared. And so Enoch sets off on his quest...
This is a difficult one to evaluate. As a game, it is a 3rd person, fixed camera hack and slash action adventure, where, you do a lot of combat, and a lot of platforming. The platforming is very basic, as you rely on a double-jump, and certain weapons give you extra options, like an air-dash, or a float. Fixed and often zoomed out camera angles can mess with your depth perception, so the platforming isn't always smooth. It's fair to say, that at times it can feel frustrating and floaty.
The most important part of gameplay is the combat. It's primarily melee based, as there are 4 weapon types- unarmed, quick blade (arch), ranged (gale), and heavy, defensive (veil). Each weapon has its own move set with the same basic input combos- attack, guard jump. Enemies typically have one of the 3 weapons as well, and once they are weakened, Enoch can steal their weapon, getting access to its moveset. Holding down attack button generates a heavy attack, well-timed guard can lead to counters. The system isn't difficult, but a lot depends on timing and attack direction, since there's no lock-on option. Overall, the combat rhythm with more than one enemy is all about landing combo strikes, then jumping away/guarding incoming attacks from the other enemies on screen, landing damage in order to steal enemy weapons. Although each angel's minions have a slightly different design, overall there's the 3 basic enemy archetypes. The variety really comes from the bosses, as boss encounters are clearly the highlight here.
The quirk that's worth noting is that there's no HP bars. Instead, both Enoch and his enemies are covered with armor that shatters gradually the more damage you take. When Enoch is down to his jeans and bare chest, the next hit kills him- which gives you a chance to mash a bunch of buttons to instantly revive him.
The boss encounters. As you ascend the tower of the Fallen, there's a lot of them. Some of these you encounter multiple times, getting a chance to try different approaches before the final showdown with each. The Fallen Angels start out covered in Watcher armor, but as you move through the fight, it shatters, revealing their humanoid forms. When Enoch deals enough damage, he gets to call on one of the archangels to deliver extra damage. (upon finishing the game, you unlock the option to toggle on traditional gauges for HP and energy)
The main reason to play this game is the story and presentation, which are very much linked. The art style here is... something absolutely surreal. The insides of the tower are shaped according to each Angel's aspect, and the variety here is insane. The levels are full of scattered human runners who hand you lore pieces. There's also optional areas that take you to platforming challenges where you try to find more collectible lore- and dying here takes you to credits, game over and requires a reload. Speaking of reloads- the loading times on an HDD suck. Consider installing it on an SSD. The game's console roots also show in button prompts- even when using the keyboard, all prompts are for the controller, so make sure you study the layout in settings and either memorize, or write down what the corresponding controls are. Oh, and sometimes the main levels also shift to 2D platforming. It's best to equip the Gale when this happens, as the air-dash makes most of this trivial.
Getting back to presentation. Besides the level aesthetics and enemy design, there's anime-like cutscenes. And loading briefing slideshows. Overall, there's a clash of styles, but it somehow just adds to the experience.
Unfortunately, the ending can feel a bit abrupt. Once you finish the game, you get a copy of a PDF that explains that the game was rushed, and some material was cut. A short story is used to give an idea of what was the intended ending.
To sum it up, this is an interesting project. Whether it's objectively “good” is highly questionable. But it is undoubtedly ambitious and interesting. It's also fairly short (11 levels, and fairly breezy, as long as you don't get hung up on any platforming challenges), and in my opinion, it definitely feels like it's worth a look. Though it's probably not for everyone. But if you like a bit of strangeness in your games- it's a must-see.
This is a beautiful game and interesting to play. I played it on PS3 a long time ago and I am glad that there is a PC port. It plays well and the only fly in the ointment is the settings are just like in the console version. I like to tweak my graphics.

El combate es un intento fallido de copiar a Devil May Cry y por desgracia peleas más de lo que debería. Creo que es el peor apartado de tiene. Si lo hubiesen quitado de la ecuación tendrían un mucho mejor juego. Para colmo tienes la mecánica de purificar tu arma lo cual pausa todo el combate, te deja vendido.
También he de mencionar que por algún motivo a veces crashea al final de una pelea contra un boss.. Ya son 3 veces que tengo que matar a uno por segunda vez lo cual es bastante molesto

While the gameplay is nothing to write home about, the art direction is. Truly a game that makes me want to really sit down and think about what it is trying to say. Worth it if for no other reason to blast through on easy and just take it all in. Really feels like the type of game that wouldn't be made with this level of production value today. Well worth a few afternoon's worth of playtime.

不过冥界比较过分，读的这么慢，而且拿到两个通关一看根本没有保留，那算了，男人换装免了。
How can it feel this repetitive after not even an hour is beyond me, I mean the fights are the same and feel pointless for the most parts, and the only point of them is to hinder your abilities and strenght and making you lose time purifying your weapon, the aesthetic is very valid sometimes but it feels repetitive and empty even then.
Can't even say that the aesthetic was truly revolutionary for its original release, considering some stages from other games had already the better part of aesthetics of this game, like Phantasy Star Zero, Bayonetta and the Kirby Return to Dreamland (that released the same year) that had better combat and were not very repetitive or not at all, or if you wanted a better combat in similar style there was Dante's Inferno that was released 1 year earlier that was more various and had better combat, with a way more significative purification system.
I had the feeling that combat may have been a weak spot for this game, but not so much and from what I've seen the aesthetic felt more promising and less repetitive (maybe it's even for the prospective of many parts), so it doesn't do enough for the combat

One of the most unique games I have played. You have a really fascinating story coupled with multiple genre gameplay : action, sidescroller, racing, and everything in between.

One of the most visually beautiful video games I've ever seen. The music is pretty good, the narrative and pacing are pretty consistent- the only issue I have is that the combat becomes a bit same-y after a while. Maybe there's depth to it I'm just not seeing though, so I'd still recommend this game.
The game itself is great, but honestly, I feel the need to talk about the epilogue novella that comes with the game. It encompasses the original ending of the game, which was cut due to budgetary constraints, followed by a story worthy of being a sequel. I thought the game itself had some very cool setpieces and was generally fun and good, but it's only in the sequel story that the themes of th game really come together, and it's actually really high-concept and cool, especially for a video game story. I would definitely recommend reading "Lucifel's fall". And after all this, I conclude that he is called 'Lucifel' instead of 'Lucifer' because of specific orthography that's brought up on one of the last pages of the novella... Translating from Japanese is hard.

Why is this man on his phone all the time. Like I can't get through a chapter without him being like "hold on I gotta take this." This man was literally on the phone the whole time I was in ice. He literally put the phone down at the end of my purgatory just to pretend like he ain't been doom scrolling for 1000 years. I STG If I had a $ for every time he was on his phone. I'd have a refund plus another game without a discount.
Ох не знаю з чого почати. Ця гра стоїть на межі, не просто на тонкому льодові чи лезі меча, а буквально в усіх сенсах на "межі". Мені одночасно хочеться її хвалити, і хочеться поливати брудом. Хочу її порекомендувати, але хочеться і заховати від очей подалі. З однієї сторони вона абсурдна, а з іншої сторони геніальна. Вона крива, і вона пряма. Вона красива, і вона огидна. Вона захоплива, і вона бісить. Вона усе в одному. Почну відразу: я з дитинства був зацікавлений міфологією, культурами та релігією. Мені завжди подобались такі теми. І коли я побачив гру створену по мотивам апокрифічного тексту (текст який не входить у канон Біблії), то мене це заінтригувало. Та ще й з таким артистичним стилем, це просто щось із чимось. Звичайно японці зробили як завжди ВСЕ ПО СВОЄМУ, через свою призму. Тому варто тримати це в своїй голові і мати на увазі. Від "Книги Еноха" тут тільки "ріжки та ніжки", в цьому вони переплюнули навіть Darksiders. Граємо ми за того самого Еноха, який має повернути Павших Ангелів назад на небо методом "батя прийшов з ремінем". В грі самі ангели виступають саме як боси, але в 90% випадку ми будемо боротись із їх міньйонами та слугами, вони тут різні, з різними абілками, розмірами та формами. Боремося ми або зі зброєю в руках, або в рукопашну. Зброя тут різних типів: "меч" який виглядає скоріше як лук без стріл, Є ще далекобійна зброя і Щит який роздвоюється. Кожна зброя має свої плюси і мінуси. А ще зброю треба "очищати" від темряви, бо під час бою вона "тьмяніє". Якщо зброю ворог знищив, то можна її у нього вкрасти (поки ворог оглушений). В якості позначки здоров'я у нас є "обладунок", який пошкоджується і розсипається. Якщо вже ви на нулі та вмираєте, то можна в останній момент встигнути нажати кнопки "руху і дії", аби повернутись до бою. Але справжнім ворогом і босом гри я вважаю саме КАМЕРА і УПРАВЛІННЯ, це просто Соддом і Гомора, це чисте зло. Я довго не міг зрозуміти де і як працює атака, дія, пауза, і навіть вихід з гри. Розробники не думали про зручність та комфорт в управлінні. Очевидно, що гра робилась під Х-Бокс контролер, але ж можна було якось краще і розумніше зробити, для людей. Я не знаю, можливо японський мозок працює по-інакшому. Чимось гра нагадала Nier Automata - тут так-само камера змінює ракурс і вигляд з боку, іноді гра схожа на Тургор з його сюрреалізмом. Тут багато чого намішано. Ще до недоліків маю добавити "баги", "глюки" і "вильоти". Це мене прям вразило. Іноді глючив звук, в кращому випадку, а іноді просто викидало з гри. Хочеться про позитив сказати: тут непогана музика, на хорошому рівні. І я не можу проігнорувати візуальний АРТ-стиль - тут неначе працювали Далі, з Ворхолом і Пікассо під ЛСД та Маріхуаною. Інакше я просто сказати не можу, це треба бачити. Тому все дуже і дуже неоднозначно. Я хотів кинути гру, захейтити і полити брудом, але не можу ігнорувати плюси. Надто вже унікальна гра. Не знаю коли захочу до неї повернутись, бо видно що у ній є додатковий прихований контент, але хочеться від неї і відпочити. Тому я не можу її порекомендувати. Тому, на свій страх і ризик.
I played El Shaddai back when it first released on 360. I enjoyed this then, and I definitely enjoy the game now too. But I'm going to say this isn't a game for everyone. It's deeply weird. It's Bible fanfiction--or, not even bible fanfiction. It's fanfiction of The Book of Enoch. The game is steeped in Judeo-Christian mythology but I'd be hard pressed to call this a Christian work. So it might be too religious for some people, but not religious enough for others?
It's weird.
But that's why I like it. The game's story doesn't make a lot of sense, the characters exist simply to advance the strange plot. Don't expect any deep and meaningful character interactions. Enoch is a silent protagonist, fighting his way through increasingly absurd and surreal levels. The art direction in the game was great, even if I question some of the decisions.
If you think that sounds like fun: go for it.
But don't go into the game expecting snappy gameplay. Devil May Cry this game is not, and the combat felt clunky even to me. i played on easy mode and had trouble. Blocking and dodging were slow and clunky. I sort of got a hang of the weapon switching but it wasn't necessarily a great mechanic. The platforming was functional. I've played worse platforming sections, but there were some frustrating spots too.
On the technical side, I had one crash, and that was solved (I think) by turning off the rumble feature. Do yourself a favor and turn that option off before you start playing. You won't miss much anyway.
So, despite how mediocre the game is as a game, for those of you who enjoy bonkers stories and games that are at least trying to be visually interesting, I'd say go for it.

The combat is as boring and repetitive as Devil May Cry 2.
But unlike how short DMC 2 was, this game stretches the same 3 enemies and 3 boring weapons to about 10 hours game.
And that 10 hours feels much longer due to the awful platforming and pretentious story.
This game's presentation is one-of-a-kind. I can't recommend it for those looking for deep gameplay, but I love looking at it. Recommended as an immersive tech demo for stylish shaders.

关于打不开游戏的一个可能的解决办法：
启动游戏之前，你先在任务管理器里把steam.exe右键然后选详细信息，再右键steam.exe选设置相关性，取消所有然后随便选4个核心，保存就行了，只要你不玩其他游戏，那么关机之前运行游戏都是可以直接启动的
如果你想要永久的办法，可以用dxwrapper，然后在配置文件里把单核CPU设置勾选上，这游戏单核的话稍微有点卡。
El Shaddai ASCENSION OF THE METATRON is an excellent spectacle fighter with amazing art style, a great soundtrack, smooth storytelling and enjoyable platforming along with some of the coolest set pieces ever made. The game doesn't really have unlockable skills like Devil May Cry and Bayonetta do, meaning there are no "multiple ways" to fight - you either do it right, or you don't. This does hurt replayability a little bit and I believe that's what people mean when they say the game is "rudimentary".
However, perfectly executing combos/pushing and pulling enemies is extremely satisfying and the simplicity pays off big time. There's absolutely no HUD taking over space on the screen, no intertwining tutorials teaching you moves for new weapons, and no balancing issues (you'll find yourself switching weapons constantly).

如果你把它当成一个动作游戏来玩，那可能只能算是个中上水平。这游戏的艺术表现以及音乐反而属于挺让我这种一般人看不懂但大受震撼的程度。上一次有这种感觉的还是第一次玩猎天使魔女的时候，然后后者好理解多了。
剧情要通关后再把小说看完才会感受得到完整，可惜了这游戏预算不足，真能把小说后半部分做完的话，再优化前面流程的设计，应该至少也能达到魔女的程度。
哎，时隔多年，大丈夫萌大奶的梗还是那么有意思。能把这游戏通了，也算是对梗的一种致敬了吧？

This is certainly a unique game, and I think it's worth a playthrough even though it has some problems. It has some amazing visual variety and style, great music, and the story made interested enough to actually look into the story of Enoch. However, this game has some maddeningly unfair platforming, where it is often impossible to judge the distance of your jumps, and you will fall to your death many times. The checkpoints are usually pretty generous, but there are a few that force you to repeat some sections or fights that can feel unfair. There are a number of drawn out sections that feel artificially padded. I like the combat system overall- it's actually surprisingly good, but some fights can be quite difficult, even on easy.
But this is probably the best version of El Shaddai currently available- it runs at a pretty solid 60fps, unlike the PS3 and X360 versions that were all over the place. But I did encounter a number of bugs- crashes, audio issues, missing subtitles...it really should have been patched up into a better state by now. Get it on a good sale.

This game is a total gamedev failure and was a huge marketing scam at the time. Concept-wise there are a few things but it obviously didn’t go well. Don’t let the pseudo-deep remixed religious inspiration front fool you: the game is a senseless patchwork of bits taken in other licenses that don’t work together at all. Take a look at what the game director did with the spiritual successor once he got hold of the IP.
It’s mainly an extremely poor attempt to emulate Devil May Cry but with the typical 2010s pedantic « focus on artistic value », of which there is very little.
Some visuals are nice but the general hazy mood is a washed-up version of the early 2000s watery aesthetics, and the world is an utter void where music and VA take most of the space simply by default.
The game is loading all the time. Atrocious optimization for a couple of polygons at a time.
You’re also interrupted every 5 minutes by 2 minutes-long cutscenes where you contemplate a single model barely moving make snarky comments with lexicon from the Book of Enoch randomly thrown in.
Infernally sluggish combat against dull foes every 3 platforms. Useless weapon steal & « cleanse » mechanics. It is insane to think that this came out in 2011, technically and artistically. More than a decade behind. Even a couple of years after the 3D transition, games where better than that in every way. More than a hundred people worked on this game apparently...
And this is supposed to be a HD Remaster but there is nothing HD about it. The screen settings menu doesn’t even work properly and any fullscreen attempt ends up cropping the picture badly.
Just run away. There are a lot of visually beautiful games, eerie games, games with original inspirations to play other than this lackluster mess.
Truly a lost masterpiece.
The original PS3 disc was a game I hunted for a long time and was blessed to find it is some corner video store around 2018. I played and loved it. A complete and beautiful attack on sight and sound. Completely alien world with equally beautiful music based on an ancient apocryphal Hebrew text. A one of a kind experience even for those not well read into religion texts. It is most likely the catalyst for me seeking out and reading religious text from around the world.
Gameplay feel is somewhere between Okami and Devil May Cry. It does not tell you about any of the weird secrets that it has, and you could be blindsided by "endings" you wouldn't even know about (think Nier Automata if you have played it). Completely esoteric.
When I saw that this game got a remaster/re-release I was blown away since the game's release was abysmally low sales, barely over a quarter million for PS3 worldwide in 2011. Sadly 2011 was a great year for big name games like Dark Souls and Skyrim, so this game fell far under the rug.
Please give this game a chance. It isn't long but has stuck in my mind for years. If you love Okami, Devil May Cry, Nier, or Old God of War games you will like this.

Step 1:
Open Task Manager by hitting Ctrl + Shift + Esc or just right-click on the taskbar and choose Task Manager.
Step 2:
Head over to the Processes tab on the left. Find RunElShaddai.exe, right-click it, and select Go to details.
Step 3:
This will take you to the Details tab - RunElShaddai.exe, right-click it, and pick Set affinity.
Step 4:
A window will pop up showing all your CPU cores. Uncheck all the cores, then manually select a few (like Core 0 to Core 5). You can play around with this, but from my testing, this setup works great! Click Apply when you’re done.
Step 5:
When you launch / start El Shaddai, a mini menu will show up. Choose your resolution, go to Advanced, check lock Vsync, save it, and you’re good to go!
P.S.: You’ll need to do this every time you restart the game, but hey, at least you can enjoy the game!
Why This Happens:
The developers didn’t really figure out how to tweak the game engine or code to work well with modern CPUs that have multiple cores. They just needed to add a few lines of code to limit core access on those CPUs.

A very stylish game visually, but the gameplay just isn’t there. It’s a weird version of rock paper scissors, but is either way too easy or somewhat frustrating.
Visuals truly are stunning, but didn’t seem worth it to push through.

Looking for a peak combat and platforming experience? Look no further. El Shaddai shines as a visual feast and creative beast. Most of the variety here lies in the platforming and visuals. Platforming evolves profoundly. Somehow the way the story unfolds effectively ties the gameplay's evolution to Enoch's. I have no major complaints. Sometimes gameplay mechanics are not well enough explained. The player seems to have to figure these out through trial and error. While fun and cool, the combat is almost too elaborate for my taste. Most notably, there is a lack of depth perception. So, it seems like the game relies on overly sensitive movement and the absence of shadows as a difficultly element. Was not too fond of that. The theme is not exactly attractive either. 7/10

Приятная игра с великолепным визуалом. По сюжету мало что понятно, особенно если вы не читали Книги Еноха.
Геймплейно это довольно простой битемап как в плане уровня сложности, так и в плане глубины проработки, где вся боёвка строится на принципе Камень-Ножници-Бумага.
Технически, игра работает нормально, но может зависнуть при сворачивании и почему-то здесь очень медленные загрузки. Есть гипотеза, что игру портировали чуть ли ни через эмулятор.
Игра относительно короткая, так что можете заценить, если интересны библейские истории рассказанные через японскую культурную призму и если вы не против того, что библейский персонаж носит джинсы вместе с броней.

初めのうちは正直壮大なストーリーだということしか理解できなかったのですが遊んでいくうちに徐々に面白くなっていき2日目には神ゲーでした。ストーリーをゲーム内で全て理解を理解するのは難しいですがなんとなくこんな感じなのかなというふんわり楽しむ感じで遊んでも楽しかったです。アクションは敵の挙動から推測するのが難しい攻撃がありましたが、先頭を重ねることで行動パターンを把握して勝てるようになりました。
初めのころに２回ゲームがクラッシュしたこと以外は大きく不満なところはありません。
ゲーム内の世界設定を補完する文献みたいなのがプレイ一周目だと結構見つけづらいのは個人的にはちょっと残念でした。
From some of the makers of [i]Okami[/i], an almost psychedelic retelling of the Book of Enoch, an apocryphal writing set in Old Testament times. You play as Enoch, the great-grandfather of Noah. In Genesis, it says, “Enoch walked faithfully with God; then he was no more, because God took him away.” In the Book of Enoch, it suggests that God transformed him into the angel Metatron, hence the title (“Ascension of the Metatron”). The game is Enoch’s three-hundred year war against the fallen angels, a last desperate effort to avert the biblical flood. (In the book, he was a prophet/witness to heavenly things, not a fighter, but you wouldn’t have a game that way, would you?)
As a game, it’s a rudimentary hack and slash—nothing special—but thematically and artistically, it was fascinating, kept me wanting to see more. The oddness reminds me of [i]Nier[/i], and I mean [i]Replicant[/i] more than [i]Automata[/i]. At times, it has a very good soundtrack.
Niche enough that it’s hard to believe it exists.

O melhor jogo que já joguei. Um hack 'n slash muito intuitivo, completo, viciante, principalmente único e extremamente divertido. E sim, pela gameplay, El Shaddai já é um prato cheio e merece um sólido 9. Porém, a verdadeira maravilha de El Shaddai está em sua temática, história e world-building. O jogo utiliza diversos elementos judaico-cristãos e, ao contrário de outras obras que tratam o tema de forma vaga ou profana, aqui há um grande respeito — além de um notável entendimento e estudo sobre o assunto. Ainda assim, há o uso de conceitos de livros apócrifos, o que é feito de forma bastante interessante. O jogo soa mais como um "e se?" teológico do que como uma distorção do tema. Claro, existem um ou outro desvio aqui e ali, mas nada que incomode, trata-se mais de adaptações de roteiro do que qualquer outra coisa. É um jogo fortemente baseado, dirigido e guiado por temas religiosos (apesar de, provavelmente, os criadores terem outras crenças). Em resumo, El Shaddai tem uma jogabilidade excelente e única, aliada a uma temática religiosa profunda e instigante.
Recomendo para pessoas que: Gostam de jogos hack 'n slash, amam ideias criativas (Yoko Taro das ideia), E principalmente, para quem gosta de teologia judaico-cristã.

Played this game when it originally came out and the vibrant colors and the story of the game were very captivating and immersive. i greatly enjoyed the story telling of Enoch, especially the way Lucifel banters with Enoch. The mechanics arent annoying but those camera angle can get you on some levels.
The way Sawaki Takeyasu directed and was able to get this game to be executed? *Chefs Kiss*

そんなremasterで大丈夫か?
創造出紅極一時的網路迷因的遊戲，但實際上表現只能說普普通通
雖說畫面解析度提高，但原本就是畫面比較簡樸的遊戲，所以感覺跟記憶中的原版沒什麼差別
但也因此硬體需求不高，用較低階的電腦也能順暢遊玩
就是載入關卡的時間有點久，每次讀取進度後到實際進入關卡的時間都讓人等得有些焦急
偶爾會遇到程式凍結或強制關閉的狀況，但影響不大
劇情部分，原版因開發因素更動與刪減了不少內容，光玩遊戲的話到最後對故事發展可能仍是一頭霧水
幸好remaster版收錄了部分當時另外出版的小說電子檔作為通關獎勵，補足了一些設定與故事後續
看完後對故事與角色的印象改觀不少，也提升了此版本的價值
遊玩性方面，整體比較注重於藝術性
還提供了無UI的沉浸式體驗(第二輪便可開啟UI，雖然畫面還是很簡潔但設計頗為花俏)
且可能是製作組中有著曾參與Devil May Cry系列開發的人員之故，操作性跟打擊感都不錯
尤其精準格檔的手感舒適，敵人的動作節奏也算好掌握，格檔樂趣不輸現在流行的所謂"類魂"(或"類隻狼")遊戲
但平台跳躍為主的關卡流程比較乏味，加上濾鏡效果、視角設計等有些抵消了操作性的優勢
戰鬥上因為普通難度敵人就意外的有些難纏，比起自由發揮會更注重武器相性與招式應對，有點回合制的感覺
對擅長動作遊戲的玩家來說難度適中甚至偏容易，但想輕鬆體驗劇情或專注在完成蒐集要素的話建議選擇簡單模式
整體來說若想懷舊或衝著便宜當小品遊戲玩的話

El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron figuratively tells the story of the [i]"Book of Enoch"[/i], parts of a testament that were previously part of the Bible. Enoch was the ancestor of the biblical character Noah.
In the story of the game, [b]Enoch [/b], being a scribe of God, is sent down to earth to seek out and purify the [b]Grigori[/b] - a group of fallen angels who stole the fruits of knowledge from Heaven, and came down to earth to mate with humans and share this wisdom.
God, through [b]Lucifel[/b], an archangel who speaks to him directly, asks Enoch to come down to stop these angels, and if he fails, God will have to purify the earth with a flood.
The game is divided into 11 chapters, each consisting of a level. The game's narrative, based on this story, sometimes becomes quite abstract. This becomes even more confusing when we are told that Enoch, being sent on a mission by a deity, cannot die, so some chapter passages can be a bit confusing, but nothing that greatly hinders the story that the game wants to tell. After all, for me the aim of the game is not to understand the story 100% but its presentation - El Shaddai probably has the most interesting level design and creative construction I have ever seen in any game. [b]As we go through the levels, with the background music and the somewhat psychedelic and hypnotizing scenarios, with the fixed camera being changed or passed from 2D to 3D, this becomes a contemplative game, a sample of what can be achieved by video games in terms of conceptual art.[/b]
[u]The game is a hack 'n slash[/u], very simplified in terms of weapons and combos, but at least in my opinion, it remained interesting until the end of the game. The same cannot be said for the platform levels, where the biggest challenge was to overcome them with the camera fixed at just one angle, which might not be the most favorable. One mechanic that I found quite interesting and that I want to mention is Enoch's health, which was represented by his armor. The less health he had, the less armor he lost until he was left with just blue skinny jeans... well, the game was initially released in 2011, so I understand the choice of clothing. Enoch was clearly following the trend.
The story also made me reflect a little on that crusade that Enoch was sent on. The archangels we fight don't seem to want to harm humanity at all, which could make us think that Enoch is just following blind faith or if what he's doing is really the right thing to do. I don't think the game really develops that, although we see other actions that make us think a little. I've heard that this game was supposed to have several games as a continuation of the narrative or at least of worldbuilding, which would perhaps help to delve deeper into these issues.
We manage to gain some empathy for the characters, such as Nanna - a child who helps Enoch on his journey to the tower where the fallen angels have made their base on Earth. Another relevant character is Armaros - one of the archangels that Enoch has to fight and who was his friend before that situation. The characters are not very in-depth and it becomes even more difficult with the game's somewhat abstract narrative, but we manage to empathize with some of the situations presented.
Throughout the game we are introduced to the Nephilim - born from the union between a fallen angel and a human. They are presented by God as creatures that feel constant pain until they have to consume each other, until they become giants and explode, and it is these creatures that God fears and repudiates, and they are one of the reasons for the flood.
It seems to me to be inspired by the work of Suda51 in some parts, whether in its simplified story with serious nuances, or the representation of technically serious situations in a minimally comical way, the perfect example of this is the fact that God speaks to Lucifel through calls on a cell phone.
[b]El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron is a good representation of how a game can have some flaws, but the artistic direction elevates this game like few others can.[/b] The artistic content presented in this game is elevated by elements of its gameplay. The narrative, even though abstract, gains importance because everything we do is part of the story, the game has a fast pace, perhaps even too fast in some parts. The game is not perfect at all, but it was a remarkable game for me and one that can still serve as state-of-the-art in terms of combining conceptual artistic design with gameplay.

Furi like game with mobs in between, always had my eyes on it since the XBOX360 days, thanks for thee remaster, I think Ill finish it now.
This game is seriously entertaining. It's not perfect, but if you don’t go in expecting the world, you’ll end up having a really good time. The psychedelic visuals are a real highlight, and despite being a bit dated, they still look awesome and have a really unique style you don’t see much these days. The story is pretty weird in a good way. It’s the kind of bizarre that keeps you curious and makes you want to see where it’s all going.
Honestly, I wish the devs had kept making games like this because there’s a ton of potential here. The whole vibe sometimes reminds me of Nier Automata, both gameplay and story-wise, as it gives the feeling of something different and special going on under the surface.
That said, there are a few things that could’ve been better. The weapon system is a bit too simple for my taste. There aren’t many moves, and after a while, it can feel a bit repetitive. Would’ve been nice to have more combos or different fighting styles to mess around with. The platforming, too, can get a bit annoying. It’s not terrible, but sometimes it feels more like a nuissance than something fun or exciting. A little more polish there would’ve gone a long way.
Overall, if you’re up for something a little different and can overlook a few rough edges, this game is definitely worth checking out. It's one of those games that sticks with you because of how bold and out there it is.
Anticlimatic ending aside, this was one of the most fun I had with a game in awhile

簡単操作バトルとオサレかつ荘厳で抽象画のようなアーティスティックなビジュアルとツッコミ役不在のギャグはおすすめできます。
PVが変なら、中身もLSD的な演出で変です。
しかし、オサレなアングルや色彩が見えづらくてジャンプアクションの邪魔です。（多くて早いリスポーンで配慮は感じます）
聖書に沿ったオサレ特化であり、赤い目のお兄さんの説明に依る、まるで説明不足のストーリーもとても褒められたものではありません。
オサレなムービーのみならず、実際ほぼ見てるだけの会話シーンや難しいジャンプアクションエリアも2周目では全部スキップさせてほしいところです。
（設定画やムービーを見返せるギャラリーモードはあります）
あと、おま環パッドだと、終盤のタイミングでボヨヨンするジャンプ台のキーストロークが足りないのかクリア不可能だったので、そこだけキーボード操作に切り替えました。
クリア後おまけ小説で語られた最終決戦もぜひゲームで見たかったと悔やまれます。
それから、かなり強制終了も多いので手動セーブの併用もおすすめします。
内容の割に50カ所も空きがありお得です。

It's ok. Another game with nonsensical but atmospheric story. I played it because a YouTube video told me the game started as a 3D beat-em-up, but then had a big twist and completely changed its gameplay. Yeah, that was 1 level.
Controls are good and simple.
Platforming is fine.
Combat is ok.
Visuals are varied and stylish, but still clear.
It's not a bad game. It's also not good enough to recommend.
weird... in an interesting way
this crazy ass adaptation of the Book of Enoch has to be seen to be believed. have a little patience (it really picks up in the second half) and mind a crash or two and everything will be daijoubu.

Definitely should play it with a gamepad. It's a bit annoying to try'n play it with keyboard. Also only shows gamepad button prompts, so... there's that too.

遊戲時間大約10小時左右，當然 這取決於你的實力，由於經費問題遊戲中的伏筆 BOSS 結局明顯很趕工，破關之後可以在遊戲啟動介面下載特典小說，只能說很可惜沒能把小說的故事都做到遊戲裡
