In Dominions 6 you take control of a powerful being that rules a nation and aspires to godhood. The type of Pretender Gods can vary from magically powerful arch mages to old dragons or an enormous tree. Dominions is a deep 4x turn based strategy game with a very large variety of spells and units.

What Dominions 6 lacks from its modern 4x contemporaries, it more than matches and excels in strategy, depth, and customization.
The amount of customization used for your Dominion is almost overwhelming at times. There are tutorials that feel long winded, but they really have to be in order to get the tons of information out to explain all of its systems.
If you are a fan of Paradox type strategy games, you will feel right at home here.

Нет. Рисунок игры не изменился, разрабы лишь:
• навесили бантики и бубенчики, чтобы оправдать цену как за новую игру;
• попытались выровнять силу наций и возможности школ магии (Dom-4 упрекали в "несбалансированности");
• добавили игрокам возможность проявить коварство (стелс/гламур vs spirit/true sight; расширенные возможности убийства из-за угла, в таком духе).
Кстати, "баланса" в игре не прибавилось. Например, джинны (уникальный юнит Ubar, Kingdom of the Unseen) легко крошат всех, кроме мертвецов и других массовых обладателей spirit/true sight.
Вот это "кроме" – критично. По сути, разрабы ввели "баланс" через систему "камень-ножницы-бумага". А раз так, то кто первый показал, за какую расу он будет играть (т.е. хост игры), тот и проиграл. При прочих равных, ессно.
• Согласовывайте расы заранее втёмную.
• Осторожнее с рандомными противниками в одиночной игре – можно напороться.
2. Стала ли игра хуже?
Да. Вроде бы игровых элементов стало больше, но геймплей обеднел.
• Игра за разные расы и школы магии стала похожей. Даже наборы артефактов, доступных для разных видов магии, стали схожими.
• Самой эффективной стратегией в игре стала стратегия раннего расширения (rush).
Последнее связано с тем, что в Dom-6 ополчение ("provincial defense") очень ослаблено. Я сам видел, как армия в 400 довольно средних юнитов вынесла ополчение 95 (!!) уровня. Пусть и в Early Age. Так что теперь за стеной ополчения не отсидишься.
Это обнуляет все стратегии, предполагающие долгое развитие (обзор возможных стратегий – в отзыве на Dominions 4).
ИТОГО: Дом-6 оптимизирован под короткие партии – видимо, для мультиплеера. Если вы хотите долгую вдумчивую партию, то вам нужен Дом-4.

Yeah I drove my empire into the dirt by trying to do a slave only run. I mean who would've known that enslaving your population would destroy your economy. Only to have them lose battles where they outnumber the enemy 10 to 1 is pretty wild imo. 10/10
This is probably the only Game as a service I support. Sure, every couple of years you pay full price for what looks to an outsider like the same game with some QoL added, but the base is so amazing it's well worth it to support devs with what's essentially is a subscription.
I've been playing Dominions since 3, and this is the best one yet.
I don't like this version, even though I like the older versions of the game. It has unnecessary extra complications and an unreadable interface with smaller fonts compared to what it used to be. It's difficult to play without glasses. There's a new type of magic, but it's completely unnecessary. The strange mechanics for riders and their mounts, which are riddled with bugs, are also unnecessary. Instead of convenient large icons on the side, we now have tiny, hard-to-find icons at the top of the screen.
I don't know whose idea it was to change a game we've been accustomed to for over 20 years, but they messed it up.
There are definitely some good things added, as I noticed in the new game options, but overall, there are more downsides than upsides.

It's fair to say I like this game. It's got a fairly sharp learning curve though, and I suggest trying out its less complex brethren. This will help get your feet wet with the underlying concepts. Dominions 3 is a great low-risk start: Most of the gameplay is similar for a much lower risk (~$5.00 vs. ~$50.00). After discovering whether you like the game, go ahead to Dominions 6. 4 doesn't offer much that 3 doesn't have and 5 - while a worthy game - won't really prepare you for 6 any better than 3. Also, 6 has mods accessible from the workshop, where the earlier iterations appear to have only maps.
The community is supportive and helpful the vast majority of the time. Overall I am quite pleased with this acquisition. Thank you, Illwinter
It's a fine game. However, it's a armies sim, nothing more. You get a lot of ways to fight and kill your enemies, spies, heroes, elites, spells, magic, recruiting gods, becoming god, etc. However, there isn't much of anything for city management beyond building two structures, you can put down some castles, that's it. No politics, that's refined simply to signing a peace deal or declaring war, nothing else. No sort of chance for any kind of role playing beyond choosing your spells sadly. You can rename units.
What it does have is very fleshed out and enjoyable, but I did burn out of the game and switched over to other GS, so be that as it is for a full price game when something like Total War Medieval II is only 30 something, Civ V is the same, Crusader Kings 2 likely around the same, etc, etc. Older games but I imagine they will have more to offer in diversity.
There are some mods for the game, however, it's limited which is a pity since this game appears to be very easily modified and has vast potential.
Bad UI, laughably bad graphics, punishing and tedious gameplay where one misclick can ruin a save, extensive micromanagement, forced ironman mode unless you go into folders to manually copy save files (what is this, 1995??), and despite all of that, basically no faction customization beyond picking a mediocre sprite.
But hey, if you miss 90s UI, read technical manuals for fun, love spreadsheets, and have hundreds of hours of free time you really need to burn, you'll love it.

While a complex 4x strategy game with a learning curve so steep sometimes it feels as if you are attempting to climb out of hell with two plastic forks and a piece of shoelace, it is a game with just as much depth. Each and every single aspect of these 750 megabytes are filled with enough content that would rival any game I have played so far. This game is a passion project, a work of love filled with faults and successes. Yet in spite of all of that. It is one of the most engaging games I have ever played, it has an active community full of videos and people willing to guide you and assist you in growing and learning more.
The game is not worth it's 45 dollar price tag if you do not enjoy sinking a lot of hours into this game in order to get good at it. But if you do sink in that time, you will be heavily rewarded. No game is ever the same, each nation is unique and will push you to interact with the world and the game in a completely different way. There is so much customizability, and the workshop items can allow you to tailor every aspect of the game to your will. The game is mod friendly, and has a 450 page manual instead of a tutorial, so it requires a bit of elbow grease to figure it out, but once you do. YOU GET TO DO THE COOLEST THINGS EVER. the level of satisfaction upon casting a spell that yoinks the sun from the sky, or summoning the lords of hell itself, or shattering the world and casting horrors beyond comprehnsion upon it or FINALLY KILLING THAT ONE ♥♥♥♥♥♥ IMMORTAL VAMPIRE THAT KEPT STEALING MY ♥♥♥♥. Then you will enjoy this game.
If you are a lover of monsters, mythos, fantasy, and strategy, this is a game for you. If you are autistic and enjoy listening to hour long guides explaining things in detail this game is for you. If you are overjoyed by being able to make everything to your specifications because you are a control freak. This game is for you. There are some games that are "Game of Games" I would put the Civs for instance, this is one of those games.
It's a good game, but...
It's on game number 6, and the user experience is below where it should have been on game number 2. The changes over the 20+ years from Dominions to Dominions 6 is approximately what you'd see over the lifetime of a single modern Paradox grand strategy game. Don't reward lazy developers.
(hours not reflective of actual playtime as it's so undemanding on PC resources that I'll leave it open rather than take the time to reopen and reload when I come back to a game)
