no but seriously, the gameplay... dynamic economy, the unique approach to combat movement, artifacts.. simulated living world... there is a lot here to enjoy. the voice acting during story moments are fine, enjoyable if a bit limited in range. it's not a negative at all... it does make the story easier to digest.
MAJOR NOTE: "Age of Fear Free World" is not a good representation of this game at it's finest to any degree... Free World is more of a demo of the series' combat without the prep or customization of the full game which does drastically change the feel of combat A LOOOOT! also, battle tasks seem to be waaay more enjoyable in the full games. battle tasks are optional challenges that appear for each missions that when accomplished, provides bonus rewards for each battle.
there is a loooot of content here, and a surprising amount of agency. outside of combat there are narrative events that trigger and are presented via dnd prompt window that provides story with voice acting and player choices that do actually have consequence.
open world events and the option of daily open world events to be refreshed is great, but to be clear, the open world is clickable boxes that pop up on the map... your not controlling a character with the ability to walk around... just dont go in assuming that. it does not detract at all though from this game. the quirky character voice acting in battles just... ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ I love the references lol. theres a lot, and its seriously great and brings a bit of levity to the aspects of battle that can be stressful(stressful lie any other game, not unique to this. not jank, its pretty polished).

И не только это, но вы можете играть за демонов, разве это не круто?
Честно говоря, в нем много уровней развития для каждого из ваших юнитов, много разных юнитов и 2 кампании.
Одна из них - орки, другая - демоны. В обеих есть довольно разные механики управления юнитами и их набора, что добавляет ощущения и изюминки к тому, за какую расу вы играете.

Game is still supported and updated today. Retains traces of original wargame inspired design with disposable units, though the series now takes more after RPGs with more freedom and richer mechanics. That makes it easier to build veterans so use highest difficulty and avoid most random battles if you want a challenge.
Succubus campaign suffers more from early writing and because of the dull demon-themed voice direction you would never know that the voice actor is actually pretty good. If you can get past that or just came for the gameplay both campaigns are entertaining and fast paced.
Also has modding guide and full board editor with limited scripting that allows you to do everything the campaigns do. New skills or battle mechanics can't be made except with summons but making new units and maps is easy.

The free game is rather enjoyable, it seemed that the developer was nice and at first they were helpful but the moment things seemed a little, not even significantly but only a little as i've been playing this game for years, off the developer immediately jumps to accusing me of being a bad person and quickly decides I need to just go away.
If you can get the game at a significant discount, than maybe its worth it but otherwise I'd suggest just sticking to the free version.
Also, keep in mind, this version of the game doesnt have all the content that the newer versions have. Even if the developer says it does. I personally found that at the very least there were some beasts missing... as of july 19th.
Maybe the dev will fix it now that I'm publically presenting it but if there are a few things missing that the dev says is there then there are probably more things missing.
*8/26/2022 edit: The developer has committed defamation by claiming I purchased keys illegally... even showing right below they did not commit any actual investigations behind their claims. I have already reported them to steam.

AGE OF FEAR 2: THE CHAOS LORD GOLD, a highly detailed totally polished like fine furniture work of delicious delectable tabletop gaming. Controls are fluid and intuitive as i explore the vast game world map from a top down view where i interact with merchants, encounter land battles with dastardly villainous foes and in many cases nearby dangerous animal/monstrosities of nature such as giant scorpions, explore varied terrains such as swamps, dungeons, deserts, sewers etc.
Ai is smart and devious doing things like attacking nearby giant scorpions with their archers where suddenly i will find my party of nine attacked from behind by what was once a docile group of scorpions now enraged attacking everything is sight. Plenty of weapons, magic spells and potions are at ones disposal to deal with such dangerous situations.
Graphics are great capturing a rich tabletop feel similar to Steve Jackson's CAR WARS tabletop game in detail and art style.
Music is honey dripping game healing goodness oozing soothing audio massages to the senses making for the perfect evening game after a stressful day.
Dialogue and voice acting is a hoot pouring boiling pots of laughter triggering humor on the player with many a b-movie level remark. Reminds me of the grim over the top dialogue of the Warhammer 40,000 universe in many of their games but in a comedic direction which is just enough to not feel overdone and keep things fun.
When visiting merchants on the huge map you can hire new units, buy weapons and armor along with potions as well as have crafting done. You can also level up your party/change them to another combat type for those individual units who have gathered up enough experience.

I didn't receive this product for free, but I did get it at a massive discount. (I had a coupon and only spent about $2)
AoF2 is good, but not great. It's absolutely not worth the asked-for price of $25. I'd say don't even consider buying this game if you'll be paying over $10.
Once you get used to it, AoF2's gameplay is pretty fun:
-There's a myriad of different units that this game provides, meaning that the battles have some variety, instead of feeling like the same thing over and over again.
-Artwork is nice.
-Music is decent.
-Story is alright, but not amazing.
There are some major flaws, however:
-Voice acting is terrible. One of the first impressions for most players after starting a new game is the god-awful narrator, and it's very off-putting. Fortunately, the narrator can be easily disabled in the settings, but this doesn't make up for the incredibly lazy voice-acting.
-On of the major gameplay mechanics is that if a unit dies, it's dead permanently. (Except for heroes--if a hero dies, you lose the battle.) Although this is not entirely bad, anytime I lost a unit I cared about, I just save-scummed and went back to before that battle, when I still had the unit. It just feels wrong that I'm able to do that.

Сюжет достоин хентая, без наличия хентая, какую то демонессу вы.....ли в мир людей и прочих, где ей после первого же боя отдается крутой танк. Короче, стандарт.
Невменяемое решение по поводу времени, по сути время тут застыло. И расход, 1 бой - 1 день. Так что нет никакой возможности отдохнуть денек, дабы вернуть в строй юниты которые лечатся, и тому подобное. Хотя, это иногда позволяет игре считаться сложной....
А из плюсов, и то относительных, боевка достойная 16 битных игр(и не лучше кстати, но ностальгировать можно) Возникающие воистину неоткуда квесты, даже с разными вариантами действий, слегка похоже на Тею, но уровень ниже несравнимо.
Decent story and bad voice acting but this game is just nice because there are DnD rules and character development, which makes this game great.
I really wanted to like this game but the graphics, the narration, the story and the UI it´s so rough that I have a hard time doing so.
This series is working again and this one has good options/races and multiple campaigns. Fun stuff
Я купился на симпатичную актрису, которая играла в рекламном ролике к этой игре, и купил игру. Сама же игра долго пылилась в стиме и я к ней вернулся только когда решил играть и одновременно тренировать английский (перевода нет). В целом продукт довольно слабоватый, особенно учитывая, что 5 вроде существующих частей похожи и отличаются минимально. Это мне напомнило деятельность Spiderweb Software, игры которых (Avernum, Avadon и т.д.) также похожи друг на друга, как две капли воды).
Поэтому говоря о второй части, рискну предположить, что мнение можно сразу сформировать и о других тоже.
Итак, графика слабая, хотя и симпатичная, музыка нейтральная. Самое главное в таких играх - геймплей, он нормальный, довольно интересный и состоит из битв, апгрейда героев и армии (ролевая система) и коротких (ОЧЕНЬ коротких) текстовых квестов на глобальной карте. Текстовые квесты как правило всегда завершаются битвой (хотя бывают и исключения, например, один вампир-гурман просит привести ему на съедение гнома, гоблина и рыцаря).
Но бои все равно доминируют чуть более чем полностью. И являются довольно однообразными. Как правило на харде достаточно было обычно просто выстроиться в линию и ждать подхода врага, поочередно убивая подступающих монстров. А еще у меня не сработали ачивки, а это, сами понимаете, само по себе -100 баллов из 10.
Прокачка армии интересная, но опыт персонажей уже очень скоро стало некуда девать. А еще не понравилось, что сила армий в битвах на карте настраивается автоматически под твой отряд. Это привело к тому, что вначале рандомные битвы давались мне очень просто, а потом стали невыносимы, поэтому пришлось сосредоточиться на сюжете.
Сюжетные описания довольно пространны, хотя сам сюжет не впечатлил и звезд с неба не хватает. Есть намек на нелинейность, но проверить возможности не было. Классическая история показалась скомканной и не убедительной. Мотивация персонажей сомнительной. События несвязанными друг с другом и притянутыми за уши. Я играл в кампанию за суккуба, если что и мне хватило.
Что можно было сделать, чтобы игра стала красивее и оригинальнее? Видеовставки и даже аватары с реальными актерами. Такое было раньше, сейчас используется очень редко, этим трейлер игры и зацепил. К сожалению, в самой игре ничего подобного нет. Поэтому на следующую часть с еще более симпатичной актрисой я уже не куплюсь)
А напоследок самый ужасный недостаток - озвучка текстов в котором один и тот же мужик озвучивает всех, в том числе женщин (видимо автор игры). Без обид, но это чудовищное испытание для ушей. Лучше бы озвучки не было вовсе.

Not recommended
This has great gameplay. The individual battles offer plenty of tactical depth, and there are also many variations to keep things fresh. The strategic level is also enticing, as your army grows and levels up over the course of the campaign. It helps create a dynamic sense of a journey, to go alongside the actual story. With two quite different armies to play as, there's plenty of content here.
Unfortunately, I must temper this praise with some problems. The writing is a bit hit and miss; at times genuinely funny, but frequently cringeworthy. The weak voice acting doesn't help. More seriously, there are some issues with the interface. The biggest obstacle comes with the layout in shops, were both the items you have and those you can buy are presented on the same screen; and each item type is on a [i]different[/i] screen. This makes it difficult to see at a glance what new things are available. It also made it so hard I never bothered to learn the difference between what different shops had to offer.
By far the biggest annoyances were technical. This ranged from clicks on units simply not registering; to the sound cutting out; to the game opening in windowed mode when I'd set it to full screen (which you can't change in-game); to the game outright failing to launch on occasion. This could, at times, get very frustrating.
Still, despite the drawbacks I did enjoy the game over all. I'm even considering the other games in the series.

The game is pretty interesting and well made for an indie game. Actually, it's a really nice tabletop stategy game, however the voiceover of the narrator is so TERRIBLE and off-putting that it didn't take long for it to make me turn off my speakers in between those textwall intervals in order to read them in peace and blissful quiet.
Why would the developer add such poorly performed narration voiceover to the game is beyond my comprehension.
If anyone is interested, buy the game while it's on sale, or get it in a givaway, but please, for the love of God, do never even dare to consider paying the full price for this product.

Outstanding series... Now, I'm not one to be speciesist, but last time me and my buddy Clarence went fishin' one of those Seapeople jumped in the damn boat, stole our beer, our rods, and a couple sticks of TNT... My other buddy Pearly wouldn't believe us, until later that week and the same thing happened to him, other than the beer, he's on his 4th, maybe 5th BWI. Now we got us a plan, involving some more TNT and couple rifles with about 500lbs of Tannerite.. If you don't hear back from me in a couple weeks... I see only two scenarios: 1. Fishfolk can use lighters, or 2. We went overboard on the Tannerite.. Or actually 3. We got arrested again.

I got the game on sale for $2 from leveling up my steam account. It's fun and it's definitely a good game to burn some time with but I would recommend you only buy this game if it's on sale.

The graphics are so bad it's hard to tell the characters apart on the battle screen, the gameplay mechanics are weird, and the story is cliche and badly narrated. Even on sale for $2.00, this games was not worth the money.
Das Spiel macht Sapß wenn, würde sagen das es sein Geld wert ist, auch in eine alten Grafik stil gehalten,
würde es Stratigie fans empfehlen es das Spiel ist nicht zu schwer da man zu not den einstellungen die frustrierenden teile des Spiel auschalten kann was aber dazuführ das ihr sehr viel sorgloser spielen werdet wahrscheinlich und könnte.
Mag die spiele aus dieser spiele reihe und kann alle empfehlen.
Great indie game! If you love turn-based strategy, this is for you!
Excellent indie TBS with RPG elements and a persistent squad. Think Battle Brothers, Warbanners, or Panzer General. There is a kingdom with humans, orcs, demons, dryads, dwarves, and other assorted goons. In AoF2, the two campaigns involve the orcs and the demons. Both campaigns have their highlights. The demons campaign has the better story involving a Succubus escaping from Hell. And the orcs campaign has the better level design. You can wrap up each campaign in 5-10 hours depending on how much you grind and explore. Normal difficulty is very easy, and hard difficulty offers little challenge. Experienced players might want to jump straight to insane difficulty.
Overall this is a highly enjoyable game - bravo to the devs - recommended together with the other AoF titles.

This game is awesome. Def old school, no fancy graphics. It skips the boring parts of adventure games. Most of the time you're doing strategic battles, and there's some nice storylines to shore that up.
+Gameplay is nice, very similar to first.
+Music is nice.
+Voice acting is terrible, I disabled text voice-overs.
I really enjoyed Age of Fear 1. For that reason I decided to give the sequel a chance.
Sadly, the experience has been dissapointing due to repeated perma-freezes of the application that I also cannot minimize or close with Task Manager, Alt F4 or other means. That means everytime it happens, I need to sign out of Windows.
This event happens at fight start. Now the frequency of this happening is 1/2 or 1/3 tries. This makes the game unplayable for me, which is leading to an uninstall and Never get back to it.
Es ist ein kurzweiliges taktisches RPG, das mit zwei sehr schön inszenierten Kampagnen aufwartet und einen ein gutes Gefühl davon Vermittelt ein Orkischer Warlord oder eine heimtükische Succubi zu sein. Hat viel Spaß gemacht und die Engine bietet viele Möglichkeiten für eigene Kampagnen.
Empfehle es jeden der nicht so viel Wert auf hochmoderne Grafik legt.

It's just fun. Taking control of a succubus and going on adventures is cool. The combat system is a little difficult. But not too much.
Edit: It's been a few years now. One thing that makes this game great are the Devs. They never stop adding new characters, races & new things to the game. Another is just the creativity of the different races you can put in your army. You can tell the Devs care a whole lot.

Honestly, one of the better games I have played that people have to see. I know you may be changing your mind because of the price, and I would too, I got this game with a discount. If this game is on sale, it's definitely worth it if it's on sale. If you like strategy turn-based games and medieval lore, get this. If you like dragons, fire, and stories then get this game. 5/10
简洁硬核的系列战棋。看起来粗糙的画面下，隐藏着好多有待研究的兵种差异、道具、养成、技能训练等有趣的要素。
2部是恶魔和兽人的剧情，开始有分歧线路选择了，而且还有地图，可以开启额外剧情、遭遇战和各种副本。
恶魔的火系法术和召唤术很有特点，魔眼和车子很好用；兽人暂时没通，可能太菜了，萨满召图腾，摆好阵型应该也不错。
i liked the firrst one. The 2nd one is fun though but its hard to not just deinstall it for the really annoying bugs.
There are incredibly huge lags for me after some time in. "Luckily" the game freezes regularly so you have to close the game via taskmanager. The narrator reads every storytext before the missions. Somehow stops until 2 fights until you restart the game again, which is no problem because it'll just freeze anyway.
Would like to but cant recommend it like this.

Отдельно хочу отметить, что карта всего мира добротно сделана, приятно смотреть. А вообще начало игры происходит в обычных стычках, но потом на протяжении всего сюжета персонажи развиваются и прокачиваются, что делает дальнейшее прохождения и стычки интереснее. Думаю, если бы здесь была 3d графика, то игра собрала бы больший ажиотаж, а так внешне не очень притягательно, хоть и неплохо проработана механика.
Цена конечно превозмогает ожидания, но покупал по 90% скидке и остался доволен. Так что решите поиграть, ждите нормальную скидку.
A decent stragegy indie game that can give you a quick tactics fix, but ultimatelly remains just an average experience.
GAMEPLAY: You move your pieces on a free-range board to fight enemy pieces. There is a good variety of tokens/pieces to choose from and as you advance in the game some more interesting creatures are unlocked, but unfortunatelly at the end of the day the strategy boils down to 1) having some tanks/shield wall in front fir 2) your ranged creatures to do their thing. Its not necessarily bad and some battles can be fun, but ultimatelly there isn't much depth.
UI: Simplistic but also sorta cluncky and unnintuitive. Lots of minor things with the interface that are poorly designed. For example in order to manage your troops and inventory you have to enter an event, you just can't do it from the convenience of the world map. Overall could be worse, could be better.
STORY: Very juvenille amateurish and poorly written. The campaing flow is terrible. Usually for these types of games one comes to expect some manner of at least serviceable narrative to help with immersion and enjoyment, but here I simply ignored it because its so bad.
MUSIC/SOUND: At some point I just started playing with no sound, listening to my own medieval playlist. The music is average at best, and the voices are... meh.
Despite all the jank i'm still giving it a positive review because I did get some amount of entertainemt for some hours for the cheap price, and strategy games are a dime a dozen also specially considering indie games so in that sense I recommend that you at least give it a try and see if you can get past the game's failings.
That said, I don't think I'll be checking out any of the developers other games as they all seem to be using the same engine and thus same overall game design... in that sense I got my fill of the engine. If one day the developer creates a new strategy game with a different engine and he improves on some features and design sense then I might come back.
Do I enjoy this game? Absolutely! Do I recommend it? No, not at all. The game is just unpolished in a lot of ways. it runs fine and there are none of the standard technical issues, but a lot of its mechanics are bugged. To name a few
- It has Xcom probability. Instead of using an actual probability system, this is another game that looks at probability as a big meme. You will regularly miss 10 attacks in a row with an 80% chance to hit.
- Some mechanics just dont work so you can't plan accordingly. I was facing a unit that I personally use and have fully upgraded. He can have at max, 3 attacks per turn (2 standard attacks plus one extra if he kills an opponent). That same unit for the enemy used 7 consecutive attacks. There is no way to plan for that. Some enemies just operate outside of game rules and there isn't much you can do to plan for it.
- The movement system can be pretty garbage. Some units wont go through gaps that they should be able to fit through comfortably, and there are some inconsistencies with distance as well. I have a vampire who has 2 attacks per turn. I will move him to an enemy and his first attack can reach the enemy, but the second won't even though he is in the same exact range for both attacks.
The game is enjoyable if you don't take it too seriously, but the game mechanics are so inconsistent that a lot of the time luck can be a bigger factor than strategy. Grab it on sale if you just want to mess around. Don't grab it if you are looking for a serious strategy game where your tactics will actually matter

For 15€, the game is way to short. While there are random missions you can do ad infinitum, there is only a handfull of story missions, and they arent even different from the generated ones. Aside from that, the game is archaic in its presentation, ui etc. and while I dont mind the grafic, the art direction isnt that good either.
Last but not least, the game constantly annoys you with dumb pop ups that want to explain the game or even that you should buy the other titles in the series.
The open world features have made this series an absolute gem. It's fun, doesn't take itself too seriously and it doesn't waste the player's time. This sequel didn't have as fun campaign as the first one though (hard to compete with Prince Charming and NotSkeletor) but I found the battle scenarios make up for this. Overall a great game and series.

If you were initially cautious about "missing out" on new features and tried to figure out which game would be the most bang for your buck out of the Age of Fear series, it's actually a lot simpler than you'd think. I'll explain below.
I suggest either buying the whole Age of Fear series or specifically the one whose story/characters draw you the most, because...
- The series backports new updates and features to older games in the series. This means that, for example, if a new feature is implemented in, say, Age of Fear 3, it will be ported back to 1 and 2 before long. That way, if you don't like the playable factions in 3 but do like the factions in 1 and/or 2, you can enjoy this new feature with your preferred playable faction without having to miss out, just because you like necromancers more than dryads, or any other number of reasons.
- Despite the connectivity in mechanics between games, the storylines aren't connected any more than being mentioned or briefly encountered in one another's campaigns. This means that you DO NOT have to play through the games before your preferred game to understand what's going on, aside from a simple, brief cameo or mention of previous protagonists' names. Pick which one interests you, and go for it!
- If you're unsure of which game's factions interest you and would like a trial run, there is a FREE TO PLAY sandbox game for Age of Fear called "The Free World"! Use this to give the factions a try and determine which game will ultimately be the most fun for you to play! If you like the gameplay of The Free World, you are guaranteed to like the gameplay of 1, 2, 3, and the upcoming 4, as they are nearly identical in gameplay. Their storylines and main characters are what set them apart from one another.
Ultimately, I consider the bundle very much worth it, but your mileage may vary. I haven't regretted my purchase, and I can be quite picky about whether I keep a game. If the series interests you, I wholeheartedly suggest that you give it a try, at the very least!
Sidenote : The developers are very well behaved, in my experience, and have been a pleasure to keep up with. They're positive, respond regularly, and even go out of their way to get refunds back to people who are displeased and went past Steam's refund 2-hour limit.
The game is pretty fun for a unit tactic game. All deaths are permanent unless you have resurrection skills. The ability to capture opponents as long as you use the right skill and they don't have certain passives makes the armies you can build very versatile.
You just have to get past the learning phase of the game first. Play the tutorial and don't be afraid to use the optional battles to grow stronger if you need them. Remember to watch the moral of your army too, as low moral is a bad thing in many ways.
